Well, I'm not going to stall and just get RIGHT into it! Here's part 2 of the visit and all I will say is… prepare yourselves. Lol. ;)
({No POV})
At the Burromuerto family estate, everyone was already inside the drawing room visiting.
Carlos and his wife Marisol were both helping pour drinks and enjoying chatting with their oldest son Saul who was now 27 and in the midst of medical school. Meanwhile their younger son Omar, who was almost 25 and in the midst of grad school for accounting, was sitting and talking to Gerardo and Elena.
Everyone seemed to be having a nice time until Omar looked across the room at Diego talking to their Great-Uncle Julio and Elena's friend and Julio's long time partner Gemma (Who they still called 'Tía' regardless) and smirked before he called out playfully, "Oye primo! Música!"
Even though not as often as he used to, Diego was given piano lessons starting at 5 years old and used to do concerto piano in the past at various concerts and recitals as a child and preteen. But, he dedicated most of the time in his itinerary to his true passion of fencing.
Although that still didn't mean he wasn't one of the designated 'family musicians' who was usually called upon at family holidays (usually Christmas) to play music for everyone.
And while Diego feigned 'bashful humbleness' much like Alejandro at times, he really did relish in showing off his talents whenever he was given the opportunity. Like usual, Diego casually waved off his cousin as he responded, "Oh I don't know about that. A bit too early, wouldn't you say, Omar?"
But, Omar read into it completely as he smirked before looking over to Saul as the two proceeded with their usual routine of starting to chant like a bunch of rowdy university students, "Música, música, música…"
Finally Diego stood and put his hands up but smirked in mock surrender as he made his way over to the piano and took a seat as his cousins let out an immature cheer to celebrate their 'harmless goading' had succeeded.
Eventually Diego grinned and pulled back his shoulders before silently counting himself in.
As much as he was enjoying the chance to show off; however, he was also internally glad for the distraction from his thoughts, as he started playing one of his personal favorites "Past the Ocean" by Darren Robert.
Diego was playing it mainly because he liked it, but also because it reminded him a little of someone else who had similar 'music tastes' that was his primary reason for not seeming too thrilled about the visit today once he heard they weren't going to be there.
He kept playing and grinning to himself as his relatives sat back and kept chatting as they enjoyed the musical ambiance Diego was providing.
As Diego kept playing and closing his eyes with a slight smile as he got into his 'zone', Heather and Alejandro looked on from their corner of the room where they were previously drinking their glasses of Moscato and engaging in conversation.
Alejandro grinned as he looked on at Diego on the piano... until he looked over at Heather.
While she was also looking on at Diego, he couldn't help but notice a small smile tugging at the corners of her mouth, indicating her pride and enjoyment of watching Diego in his current activity, and caused him to smirk at his wife.
As everyone kept going about their business, Gerardo's eyes went wide as he reached into the inside breast pocket of his suit jacket where he kept his phone and went wide eyed for a moment.
Elena looked over and questioned after seeing her husband's current state, "Something the matter, mi cariño?"
Gerardo looked over at her before responding, "José's here."
Elena's eyes widened as she questioned, "Qué? I thought he said he had no idea if they were coming?"
Diego slowly stopped playing as he continued to eavesdrop on his grandparents in complete fixated fascination about what they were saying on who was coming… or 'here' now apparently.
Right then, the doorbell sounded and everyone's heads snapped up in response before Gerardo deduced, "Well… that should be them."
Even though Elena and Gerardo were of mixed emotions as they got up and made their way to the front door as Heather and Alejandro both simultaneously rolled their eyes in annoyance before finishing off their respective glasses of wine, Diego's eyes shot open in intrigued shock.
In the midst of it all after Elena and Gerardo left the room, Julio leaned over to Gemma and inquired, "Can I say it?"
"I'd advise you not to, dear." Gemma responded plainly, knowing Julio much too well.
A few beats of silence passed until Julio raised his wine glass to his lips before humming the stereotypical 'Three Ring Circus' theme song, causing Gemma to smack him on the shoulder for not listening to her and Omar and Saul to choke back laughs in response to Julio at the family inside joke.
Meanwhile at the front door and while Gerardo and Elena were there front and center, the remaining members of the family slowly trickled in to almost form a receiving line.
But, mainly it was more just the usual line for the show. To see 'what was gonna go down' this time.
Gerardo opened the door to reveal José.
While not what he looked like in his 20's and traded in gelling up his hair for smoothing it back with pomade and exchanging his soul patch for cleaned up 5 O'clock shadow, was very much the same as he always was as he confidently straightened out his suit jacket with a smirk to shockingly reveal a titanium wedding band on his left ring finger.
José kept grinning ear to ear with a quirked up eyebrow as he greeted, "Hola padre, mamá… apologizes for being last minute. There was a bit of a gust going through back in Ottawa and only just subsided so our jet could take off."
Almost as if on cue behind him, they all heard a familiar hushed female voice sharply direct in annoyance, "Will you stop dragging your feet?!"
Kelsey.
Then Kelsey's remark was closely followed by a different female voice that shot back equally hushed but still just as done and pissed off as ever, "Well, maybe if you stopped acting like vulture breathing down my fucking neck all the time, I could actually stand up and walk normally, mother."
Kelsey exasperated in frustration before snapping again, "Why do you always have to be so difficult?!" Almost as if on point, the other voice instantly shot back rhetorically, "I don't know? Why do you always have to be such a damn nag?!"
While José at the current moment looked outwardly as if nothing was happening, but internally he was annoyed by the usual 'same shit-different day' circumstances occurring behind him that never seemed to stop.
But, seamlessly and despite her pissed off annoyance from mere seconds ago, Kelsey slid into the doorway with José and went 'all smiles' as she latched herself onto his arm like usual and in the process showing off a white gold wedding band on her left ring finger as well.
"Hello everyone, thank you so much for the invitation." Kelsey greeted as usual in a completely sickeningly sweet and overly polite tone to her in-laws.
However, she was also sporting the longhorn necklace in the midst of the sweetheart neckline of her dress that she had received from Gerardo and Elena after them finding out about the 'spontaneous and shocking marriage' that seemed to come out of absolute nowhere between José and Kelsey.
As well as another occurrence that seemed to happen simultaneously and just as shockingly unexpected as their marriage standing a few feet behind them.
Behind José and Kelsey was a teenage girl about the age of 18 who, despite having Kelsey's thick raven hair and gray eye color, looked as if she was practically the spitting image of José and by extension her grandmother Elena when she was a teenager.
She was tall, pretty, and athletic in appearance and wearing a black pleated skirt with a cream sleeveless blouse with black trim that showed off her very defined arms. Her hair was long but held back by a headband to further bring out her defined facial features.
As well as display her beyond annoyed facial expression to show she'd rather be literally anywhere else but with her parents, mainly Kelsey… much as usual.
Along with her longhorn necklace that unlike Kelsey, she always wore.
It was none other than José and Kelsey's one and only child and daughter.
Natalie Burromuerto.
Eventually Gerardo decided to break the awkwardness as he grinned and greeted, "Buenas tardes and not at all. So glad you all were able to take flight and get here. We're delighted to have you."
José and Kelsey assumed their usual routine of 'making nice' with Gerardo and Elena as Natalie followed in behind them.
Although to this day, Elena faked her way through 'saying hello' to Kelsey in particular since she has never trusted or liked her much at all since the moment they met and did nothing but surprisingly make her like Heather more.
When Natalie came up to her; however,… it was like the flip of a coin.
Elena's expression softened into a genuine and maternal smile as she greeted her one and only granddaughter, "Hola mija, you look very nice today." Slowly and almost minimally, Natalie gave Elena a small smile back as she replied just as simply but genuinely appreciative of not being asked 'how she was' like most people do on reflex with pleasantries, "Hola abuela." Elena's smile got even bigger as she grabbed Natalie's hands before giving her a kiss on the cheek and continuing in a very genuine tone, "It's so nice to have you here."
Again although minimal, Natalie smiled slightly at the only genuine affection she ever receives from anyone in her family, the only other exception being Gerardo as he grinned at his granddaughter and greeted, "Sí, mi cariña. We're always glad to have you."
Gerardo gave her a hug and kiss on the cheek too as he heard Natalie reply just loud enough for him to hear, "Gracias abuelo."
Meanwhile on the other end of the line Alejandro and José were currently sharing a crushing handshake with 'forced smiles' and seemed to be having a silent and subtle argument through hateful eye contact.
Then Kelsey and Heather finally got face to face as Kelsey put a fake yet sneering smile on her face as she called out while extending her arms, "Heather." "Kelsey." Heather replied in a similiar way as she went in for the hug.
But, this was immediately switched to match their husbands' energy as the two engaged in a hatefully crushing hug while Heather whispered scornfully into her sister's ear, "How does it feel to still be screwing a guy to stay on top?"
Immediately Kelsey responded in an equally scornful whisper to her little sister, "About as great as it would feel for me if I saw that stupid neon sign of your name above your stage land on you, you little bitch."
Meanwhile as 'all that' was happening, Diego and Natalie made brief eye contact and gave each other a nod as a greeting.
Diego grinned as a result while Natalie abruptly looked away only to see a tray with tumblers full of a cocktail mixture and grabbed one for herself.
While the Burromuerto's as a whole all shared the mentality of allowing their children to have drinks at gatherings at age 15 as long as they had their parents or an older relative present, Carlos cautiously spoke up as he playfully warned his niece, "Be careful, Natalie. Tía Gemma said I made those a bit too strong."
Although, taking him off guard, Natalie replied off handedly yet very serious, "I very much hope so."
She then proceeded to take a sizable sip before walking into the drawing room, making the whole room go quiet for a moment in awkward tension… and the family holiday celebration had only just begun.
Okay, as much as I hate to quote Duncan, Gwen, or Courtney during that stupid and unnecessary messy love triangle plot that happened in TDWT, but this quote from Duncan in 'Greece's Pieces' is all too relevant. "I know what you're thinking. I'm thinking it too"... because you guys must seriously think I have REALLY lost my damn marbles after this chapter… and I get it! After all, Alejandro and Heather having a kid? You're crazy, Dexter! And now José and Kelsey are not only married now but ALSO have a kid together too?! WTF Dexter?! Again, I get it! But, let me explain. Lol. XD You guys know me with my writing by now… and you know that I LOVE the drama and I may have gone a bit off the deep end into crazy ass Soap Opera territory on this one, but I don't regret a THING! Considering this chapter came out even better than I personally expected the more I kept writing it and I hope you guys enjoyed the dramatic insanity too! Since the full story of 'what the hell is happening' between José and Kelsey is WHOLE other kettle of smelly fish served with piping hot TEA that I'd love to write a chapter on if you guys want it, but for now… here's the short version! Lol. About 19 years ago in the timeline, let's for simplicity's sake say José and Kelsey were kind of slacking on being 'sexually safe' with each other until their 'luck ran out' and ended up having a MAJOR 'oops' of all 'oopses' that resulted in their daughter Natalie being conceived. And, mainly from Kelsey's influence, the two right after finding out about the pregnancy and not wanting to 'damage their reputation' as professionals or with their families at getting 'knocked up' in their minds, they decided to 'minimize the damage' by going on a 'little trip' to supposedly party and gamble as a cover for deciding on a 'spontaneous marriage ceremony' at Niagara Falls. However, there was ONE little snag… it didn't fool anyone. Especially it didn't fool anyone who 'knew them' and also didn't fool anyone who 'did the math' once Natalie was born. Because honestly, no one really cared (except for maybe Heather and Kelsey's older sister Megan) that they had what was DEFINITELY for them an 'accidental pregnancy', but more just thought they were crazy and insane for everything Kelsey and José did to try to 'minimize the damage' to their pride and reputation in the situation that resulted in them getting married… when they REALLY probably shouldn't have gotten married at all considering how we know them as people and characters. But again… I would LOVE to write how all that craziness unfolded. Just let me know! :D And now we get to the latest addition in our cast of characters, Natalie Burromuerto. I'd love to hear your thoughts on what you all personally thought of her so I'll keep my own points on her brief. Natalie is 18 and in her last year of high school in Ottawa where she lives with her business professional minded parents who both currently head Elena's old cosmetic and skin care company. And as you can see, Natalie doesn't have the best home life situation ever mainly due to her parents since as you can VERY well imagine, having parents like Kelsey and José is probably a VERY trying thing for anyone to deal with. And despite her being a complicated, angsty, temperamental, guarded, and rough around the edges individual… she's not necessarily a completely bad kid as you saw by her interactions with her grandparents. But, I will reveal more about Natalie as the story progresses. So… stay tuned ya'll! ;) Anyway thank you all SO much again for taking the time out of your day to read my fic and constructive comments are always welcome and appreciated.
Have a lovely rest of your week and stay classy!
