Now, I won't sugar coat it, but this chapter will be a short one. For lack of a better term but, 'the shit will start hitting the fan' and I wanted one more chapter to try to smoothly ease into this next rising action/plot point in this fic. But, seriously thank you all so much for everything and I hope you enjoy the chapter! We are coming back to Diego after he decided to lock himself in his room for the weekend to finally watch "Total Drama" and get the full picture of his parents' story. Enjoy! :)
(Diego's POV)
What is sleep?
I feel like I've done nothing over this weekend except stay up. Despite still having no idea about anything and having no idea how I feel… it's like I can't look away.
I finished the first 2 seasons of Total Drama and I can't stop watching it.
Especially since… I'm speechless.
There are no words for some of the things I have seen on this insane show.
Look, my mother has been an internationally known and famous talk show host for over 20 years and known well for her 'unorthodox' style of entertainment compared to past shows of her type.
And I thought there was nothing my mother could do that would shock me in any way shape or form… until this show.
First off, I thought I knew how ruthless my mother had the capability of being until I saw what she did to some of the contestants on this show.
Not only that, but I have no damn idea what is going on!
The first season just began and I saw a woman, who I was positive was my mother's maid of honor that I remembered seeing in their wedding pictures, THROW MY MOTHER OFF A CLIFF and flat out DESPISED each other for most of that first season!
So just… HOW?!
Granted in the second season, which I could not believe my mother even did with her head still pretty much shaved since I remembered her refusing to leave our house one time until her 'hair was perfect', it seemed like mother and Leshawna seemed like they were on 'better terms'… but still!
All I know is my mind is absolutely, well… 'fucked' for a lack of better term at this moment.
My eyes are bloodshot, I haven't showered in almost 2 days, and I think our housekeeper Luz thinks I'm certifiably insane when she opened the door to ask me if I was okay since I haven't left my room this whole time and I blankly stared at her until I think I probably disturbed her so much that she left the room and closed the door.
But, I didn't care.
I have apparently sold my sanity to this awful yet addicting show until I have seen everything it has to offer me.
As I started up the third season, I was starting to wonder two things.
One of which was what Claire was talking about when she said that 'I could call her if I needed to talk about anything I saw on the show'.
I still had no idea what that was about?
Sure some things my mother did were pretty cut-throat and did shock me at how nonchalantly she dealt them out, but it's also like they oddly didn't entirely 'shock me' at the same time to a degree as well.
I am aware that makes no sense even to me, but it's true.
Reading diaries, stabbing strangers in the back to get ahead, getting in people's heads to throw them off their game… that all seemed pretty on par for my mother, really.
Especially considering her latest 'stunt' of hiring people to take off and then hide the tires of Ronaldo Sanchez Rojas's car just because of some things he said about her and my father on his social media.
But, that was a whole other thing.
Because my other question was my next obvious one… where is my father?
What does he have anything to do with this sort of a show? And how did he even 'agree' to do this?
My father is one of the most intelligent, dignified, and confident people I know. He's a man of aristocratic descent and is a well known and respected politician.
So, how did he end up on something as bottom feeding as this show?
And... why?
But, as much as I have a strange fascination with this show, it was completely thrown aside by me wanting to see how exactly my parents even met?
Eventually I got settled again as I prepared myself when the screen lit up to show an airplane runway with quite a 'worse for wear' bus show up as Chris started his introductions.
A lot of the usual contestants returned, particularly I was intrigued when I saw my mother walk in with short hair tied back in a ponytail.
My mother has always kept her hair long for as long as I've known her.
The only time I remembered seeing her hair shorter like it was here was in her prom picture with Claire's father that's in her make up room downstairs to this day.
So… I'm assuming this had to have been around the same time frame judging by the length of her hair.
That and it just seemed to line up anyway to me since the only other thing I knew besides they met on TV was my father also said they met when they were 18.
So… this all so far seems to line up.
Which is a first considering I feel like all I've ever been is 'lied to' these past couple days.
A couple other contestants came up from the first season particularly until Chris said 2 new competitors were starting that season and I immediately leaned forward on my bed as I listened intently.
Chris stopped before smiling and starting, "...He's an honor roll student with a diplomat for a dad and has an amazing ability to charm the pants off most species, Alejandro."
Right then I saw padre step into the doorway of the bus (Though it was strange for me seeing my father with his hair not tied back and also having no facial hair beyond a soul patch).
He grinned as he removed a set of sunglasses, much like mother did during her first season which intrigued me.
Either way, if I wasn't hooked on this before… I definitely was now.
({No POV})
Alejandro was sitting in his office trying to get through some more of his work before he went home, but… even he was trying to see the point.
What was he even going home to?
His son who has hardly left his room since 'the argument', his wife being equally as distant and seeming to be spending most of her time at the studio to avoid everything, including him.
He tried to reach out to her to talk to him the morning after the argument between her and Diego, but she immediately made no effort to communicate.
It was almost as if that whole incident had sent his and Heather's whole relationship and marriage they spent many years into reverse.
Eventually Alejandro pursed his lips before tossing his pen on his desk and leaning back into his desk chair.
He gripped his hand into his hair, looking as if he was racking his brain as he searched for something… anything at all.
Just trying to find a solution to the situation currently plaguing his family.
He kept thinking until finally he sighed in defeat as he ran his other hand down his face in frustration.
Until he slowly looked over at his phone and picked it up before in a last ditch effort of finding something to turn to, he dialed the number he sought in his contacts.
Gerardo.
So, it looks like for the first time since he was 21, 49 almost 50 year old Alejandro is once again seeking input from his father for advice in this situation between his son and his wife that he still has no idea about what even happened to cause it since Heather is regressing a bit into her old ways of avoiding her emotions and insecurities to avoid appearing 'weak' or 'wrong'. And Diego is just refusing to talk to anyone until he finally gets to the bottom of the WHOLE story behind his parents and getting answers. Either way… Alejandro and Heather's family has A LOT to sort out right now. And it's all thanks to Chris McLean for pulling the trigger on this emotional ticking time bomb. Thanks Chris for being the dramatically, insane and shit staring man that you are! Lol. XD Anyway, thank you all so much for taking time out of your days to read and constructive feedback is always appreciated. And whether you are celebrating Easter, Passover, or Ramadan right now… Happy Holidays! :)
Stay classy, safe, and healthy!
