Hello again everyone, how's it going? Just got done with a crazy semester at Towson, so I figured I'd crank out a chapter in my free time. I've been busy, yes, and your Nutty Buddy has certainly found things to do here in Baltimore, such as participating in Smash Xanadu for the first time. I didn't get on stream, but I did okay, all things considered. Here's hoping life will let me focus more on this story and keep pumping out chapters of this story that you have come to enjoy. Now let's get on with the chapter!

Chapter 28: Dragons, Dragons Everywhere!
Jack LP: 4000 Draco LP: 4000 Speed Counters: 2
Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger: Atk 2600, Def 2100, Rank 7
Dark Resonator: Atk 1300, Def 300, LV 3
Jack looked at the new monster on the field, curious about this XYZ summon. He'd heard about this new power from Akiza, but he wasn't sure just how it worked. He had a gut feeling that these cards didn't belong in this time, but just because they didn't belong didn't mean they weren't a threat.
"What's the matter Jack?" Draco asked, "Awestruck by the power of my new monster?" He snickered to himself, thinking 'Not that it matters, even if he brings out his Red Dragon Archfiend, because I have two Traps on the field that will stop his Archfiend in its tracks.'
Jack snorted. "As if. Your monster may be something I've never seen before, but that doesn't mean it can't be beaten."
"As if you have a monster strong enough to beat it," Draco shot back.
"I will," Jack declared, "After this draw! It's my turn!"
Speed Counters: 3
"Now, from my hand I Summon Gear Changer!" Jack shouted, playing a card from his hand. A stickshift from an old car appeared, several gears attached to its underside.
Gear Changer: Atk 1500, Def 700, LV 4
"Pah! It doesn't have enough power to make an attack or a Synchro Summon!" Draco scoffed.
"Not yet it doesn't," Jack agreed as they zipped around a curve. "But Gear Changer's special ability kicks in now that he's been summoned! I can increase his level by the number of monsters you have on the field. Since you have one monster on the field, your crazy XYZ monster, I can increase his level by one!" A purple glow surrounded the little machine monster, emphasizing the special ability.
Gear Changer: LV 5
"Now it's time to tune my Gear Changer with my Dark Resonator!" Jack announced. The Dark Resonator rang its bell and turns into three stars that expanded out into three green rings. The Gear Changer revved its motor and flew into the rings, turning into five stars that aligned in the rings. Jack began chanting. "The ruler's heartbeats will now file through here! Take witness to its creation shaking power!" He threw his fist in the air as a red light erupted from the rings. "Synchro Summon! My very soul! The Red Dragon Archfiend!" The light faded and revealed Jack's signature monster, with scales of red and black and glowing yellow eyes, the Red Dragon Archfiend roared a challenge to all who would oppose it.
Red Dragon Archfiend: Atk 3000, Def 2500, LV 8
"Now, time I put an end to that Gaia Dragon of yours," Jack shouted. "Feel the wrath of my Burning Soul! Attack Red Dragon Archfiend! Ultimate Power Force!" The Red Dragon Archfiend roared and charged forward, fire gathering around its fist.
"I play a trap!" Draco countered, not intimidated at all by the charging dragon. "Dragon's Rebirth! Now I banish my Gaia Dragon from the field, sending it to the great beyond and the Overlay units to the Grave!"
"But now your field is wide open for an attack!" Jack pointed out as the XYZ monster vanished from the field, the orbs that had been orbiting it shattering in the process.
Draco grinned. He had him right where he wanted him. "That's what you think! Now that my Dragon's Rebirth conditions have been satisfied, I'm bringing back my Necro, Dragon Ruler of Abyss from the Graveyard to stop your attack!" A purple light erupted from behind Draco's Duel Runner as the dragon of darkness rose once more and flared all four wings, ready to do battle. "Time to destroy both our dragons in battle!" Necro, Dragon Ruler of Abyss roared a challenge and charged, shadowy energy gathering around its mighty fist.
Necro, Dragon Ruler of Abyss: Atk 3000, Def 1600, LV 7
"That's fine by me," Jack said, not concerned in the slightest. "You can destroy your own dragon all you want, but you won't be destroying my Red Dragon Archfiend! I play a Trap, Assault Spirits!" A blue aura appeared around the Red Dragon Archfiend, causing the advancing Dragon Ruler of Abyss to pause in his counterstrike.
Draco was similarly flummoxed. "What's this?"
"Now by equipping this Trap to my Red Dragon Archfiend, I can send one monster with 1000 or less Attack from my hand to the Graveyard and increase Red Dragon Archfiend's Attack points by the Attack points of the monster sent!" Jack explained. "Now I send Force Resonator from my hand to the Graveyard and give another 500 Attack points to my Red Dragon Archfiend until the end of my turn!" A little fiend carrying a water sphere on its back appeared briefly before being absorbed into the Red Dragon Archfiend.
Red Dragon Archfiend: Atk 3500
"I told you that my Red Dragon Archfiend was the true ruler of dragons, and your monsters are nothing but worthless wannabes. Now attack!" Jack shouted. "Show him our Burning Soul and take out his Dragon Ruler with Absolute Power Force!"
"I'll see your Trap and raise you with one of my own!" Draco yelled, gripping his Runner's controls tightly. This was his favorite kind of battle, a dragon against another dragon. Here, he felt truly alive. Now it was time to show that his Dragon Rulers earned their title. "I play the Castle of Dragon Souls, and by banishing the Eclipse Wyvern from my Graveyard, I can give my Dragon Ruler another 700 Attack points for the turn!"
"What?!" Jack watched as the little red and black wyvern flashed over the head of the dark Dragon Ruler. Upon absorbing the little wyvern, Necro roared and more purple fire gathered around its fists, blocking the fiery blow from the Red Dragon Archfiend.
Draco, Dragon Ruler of Abyss: Atk 3700
"Of course, since Eclipse Wyvern was banished, I'm going to add a dragon I banished earlier back to my hand," Draco continued, "And while I like having my Dragon Ruler of Heavens in my hand, it's more important that my Dragon Ruler of Abyss is stronger than your Red Dragon Archfiend! Go, counterattack that Red Dragon Archfiend with your Warlock Punch Attack!" The purple flames surrounded Necro's fists and the dragon reared back to attack. Red Dragon Archfiend punched out at Necro, but Necro simply took the blow like it was nothing, red flames dancing around his form.
"No way!" Jack shouted as his Red Dragon Archfiend hesitated in surprise, shocked to see the super armor on that particular dragon. Necro, Dragon Ruler of Abyss thrust his fist forward, purple flames bursting out on contact with Red Dragon Archfiend's chest in an explosion of shadowy energy, shattering the Red Dragon Archfiend and buffeting Jack with the damage, rocking his Duel Runner.
Jack LP: 3800
Draco laughed. "Now who's dragon is king? Your time has passed Atlas! Now end your turn so that I may finish you!"
Jack growled in frustration. This Duelist was better than he'd expected. He was down, but definitely not out, and so long as he could get through this next turn, he would be in a strong position. A beeping on his Runner got his attention. "What's this?" A familiar red Runner was catching up to their position.
"Jack!" Yusei called out as he slowly caught up to the Duel. He'd seen the Red Dragon Archfiend be vanquished in battle and was coaxing every bit of speed he could out of his Runner. Even for Turbo Duel standards, this Duel was fast.
"Don't you have others to keep an eye on?" Jack asked, a little miffed that Yusei had to see that blunder of his.
"They're following," Yusei answered. "We're in this together Jack."
"Maybe, but he's Dueling on his own here!" Draco pointed out. "And he's going to fall on his own soon enough. But don't worry Fudo, you'll be joining him in defeat soon enough. Hehehe!"
"If there's anyone who'll be going down in defeat, it's you Draco!" Jack declared, holding up his glowing right arm. "It's going to take more than one lucky play to take down Jack Atlas!"
"That's the spirit Jack," Yusei added encouragingly. He began to fiddle with the controls on his Runner, sending a live feed of the Duel to Akiza's car.
"I place one card facedown and end my turn," Jack announced just as Yusei established the connection.
Akiza's Car
It had been a bit of a sullen car ride for everyone. The teal-green flames crackling outside the window were just another reminder of what they were up against.
"So," Yugi began conversationally after a while. "Turbo Duels. Dani gave us the gist of them earlier, but she doesn't sound like as big a fan as you guys."
"Really?" Leo was confused. "She doesn't seem like the kind of person to not like Turbo Duels."
Kaiba looked out the window, deep in his thoughts. 'That woman is an enigma. She uses my Blue-Eyes White Dragon, but I still can't get a read on her, even after our Duel together last night. It's that Maiden card of hers. Somehow, I don't know how, but that Maiden feels like a key piece in the Blue-Eyes lore. So why is it that I've never heard of a maiden that worshipped the Blue-Eyes White Dragon before.' He looked at his Blue-Eyes cards, all five of them. The three normal Blue-Eyes, the Blue-Eyes Ultimate, and the Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon.
'Somehow, she works with my dragons. Her powers call directly to MY dragons.' Kaiba thought. 'How can I obtain this power? When does Pegasus plan on revealing this Maiden? I must know!' So engrossed in his thoughts, he didn't notice the screen on the dashboard light up. Noticing this, Akiza pressed a button below the screen and activated it.
"I place one card facedown and end my turn!" the voice of Jack announced, getting everybody's attention.
"Is that their Duel?!" Yugi asked in astonishment, watching the speed at which they were traveling. "I know Yusei said they were fast, but I didn't think they were going THAT fast!"
Kaiba took notice of the Turbo Duel, very interested in the happenstances of this type of Duel. It reminded him of Battle City, how he had the final eight Duelists clashin the extreme elements. It seemed that Duelists in this age also decided that Dueling was best done while living on the edge. He certainly approved of that ideal. 'Perhaps I should see if we can start Turbo Dueling when we get back to our time. Or at the very least, learn the basics. I should observe this Duel closely.'
"It's not looking good for Jack," Yugi commented, taking a look at the current status of the Duel.
"Jack will pull through!" Leo said quickly. "I'm sure he can win this!"

A part of Crow was regretting going fourth now. Sure, he was anchoring down the team, but that meant he wasn't getting to move as quickly as the others. Still, while they were down, they were definitely not out. Not while he was still around. He was going to protect his little flock at all costs.
"It's my turn now!" Thomas said as he drew a card. He grinned at the card he drew. "Now then, I say it's time to end this Duel once and for all. I play the Spell card Inferno Fire Blast, and since I have a Red-Eyes monster on the field, I can now deal 2400 points of direct damage to your Life Points! So, Maiden with Blue Eyes, let's see your precious Blue-Eyes stop this!" His Red-Eyes Synchro roared in agreement, gathering crimson energy in his mouth.
Dani held her arms in front of her protectively, bracing for the impact as Thomas' Synchro monster turned towards her, flapping its wings in a way that forced her two Blue-Eyes out of the way. "This is gonna hurt."
Crow chose that moment to act. "I won't let you hurt her! I activate my Trap, Life Exchange!"
"Life Exchange?" Thomas repeated, curious.
"That's right, now if someone's Life Points are going to change due to a card effect, I become the new target of that effect!" Crow explained.
"But why would you take such a devastating blow?" Allana asked, giving Crow an unsettling stare. It was one of both inquisitiveness and disdain.
Crow grinned, even as the Red-Eyes Crimson Dragon turned to him, the ominous crimson glow in its mouth only growing stronger. "Because I'm willing to put everything on the line to protect those that I care about! You guys come at my home and attack these kids I've been watching over, you attack Dani just because she got caught up with us Signers, I won't let you hurt them."
"I could've left you guys last night, you know," Dani pointed out, "I'm sticking with you now, because I don't want to be alone again." She glanced back at her new daughter, Kibo, who was watching with eyes wide, taking in everything. "I got others counting on me."
"It's my job as a Signer to protect other people," Crow continued, staring down Thomas, "Especially from cowards like you! So I'll take on anything you can dish out in order to protect those that I love!"
Thomas paused for a moment, sensing a connection between himself and the Signer he was facing. He would do anything to protect Allana, and she would do so for him. He had a bit of a revelation in that he wasn't so different from these Signers. He put himself in Crow's shoes for the briefest of moments, and he knew that he would make the same play. "Fair enough. I'll hit you for 2400 points of damage! Attack, my Red-Eyes Crimson Dragon!" The Synchro Red-Eyes roared and unleashed a torrent of crimson fire. Despite the oncoming attack, Thomas saw the grin on Crow's face before he was engulfed in the flames.
"Crow!" came the scared cry from the kids. The stream of fire completely hid Crow from view as the Red-Eyes Crimson Dragon bathed the Tail Signer in fire.
Dani was stunned that Crow would take such a blow for her, of all people. "Crow," she echoed quietly. The last time she'd encountered someone willing to take a hit for her, she'd been forced to watch her friend get dragged away by Sector Security, framed for a crime she hadn't committed. It had been one of the worst days of her life. Now she was having unfortunate flashbacks, flashbacks that she wanted no part of. Shaking herself, Dani looked up in time to see the flames die away, Crow lying face down on the ground from the blast. "Crow!"
Crow LP: 400
Smoke rose from Crow's frame as the Red-Eyes Crimson Dragon surveyed its handiwork. The Synchro Red-Eyes snorted as it returned to Thomas' side.
"Hang in there Crow!" Hikari shouted.
"Come on Crow, get up!" Taiga yelled.
There was a loud groan from Crow as he pushed himself up into a sitting position. He rubbed the back of his head as he quipped "Man, that sure packed a punch."
"Are you alright?" Dani asked, concern on her face as she watched Crow slowly get back to his feet.
"I'll be fine," Crow answered, that cheeky grin of his still on his face. "And better yet, thanks to Life Exchange, I can now destroy one of your monsters because my Life Points decreased! I think I'll be taking down your Red-Eyes Crimson Dragon! Let's go Blackwing Armor Master!" Crow's Synchro Monster leaped into the air, glowing a bright purple with power. The Red-Eyes Crimson Dragon was surprised to see this monster attacking it and lashed out with its tail in an effort to block Armor Master, but the Blackwing Synchro avoided the attack and punched the Red-Eyes Crimson Dragon again, this time causing the Red-Eyes Synchro to collapse and shatter.
Thomas was shocked at this turn of events. This man kept on protecting Dani, not understanding the dynamic between the Blue-Eyes White Dragon and the Red-Eyes Black Dragon. It was their destiny to do battle, so why would Crow constantly get in the way of their fated battle? Regardless, if he had to go through Crow to get to Dani, then so be it. "I play my Red-Eyes Crimson Dragon's special ability. When it's destroyed, I can summon a Red-Eyes Black Dragon from my Graveyard, so return to me, the anger of my very soul!" The famous dragon appeared from the ashes of the Red-Eyes Crimson Dragon, ready to do battle.
Red-Eyes Black Dragon: Atk 2400, Def 2100, LV 7
"You know, you and Jack like to talk about souls a lot," Crow pointed out. "Him and his burning soul, you and your angry soul, what's the deal?"
"It is through Duels that the soul of a Duelist is revealed to be weak or strong," Thomas explained, sharing a glance with Allana, "Whether they are good or evil, kind or cruel, shining lights or crushing darkness."
"So why are you always angry then?" Dani asked.
Thomas closed his red eyes and hung his head for a breath moment, taking a deep breath. "I have seen injustices in this world, the kind of which are easily avoidable. I've seen kids go hungry in New Domino City because people are too greedy to share what they have. I just want to make the world a better place for everybody, and once the Master gains the power needed to change the world, I can leave it be knowing I've made the world a better place." He opened his eyes and stared into Dani's blue eyes. "Until then, my anger at the world as we know it will continue to burn as hot as my soul. That is why I fight."
"Well said," Allana complimented. She knew her love was angry at the world, but he was channeling it into productive energy. She knew that together, they would prevail.
"Now, I activate the special ability of the Black Metal Dragon in my hand!" Thomas declared. A little metallic dragon that made Dani think of a baby version of the Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon without the red highlights appeared above Thomas' Red-Eyes Black Dragon. "By equipping this monster to my Red-Eyes, I can give my Black Dragon an extra 600 Attack points!" The metal dragon curled up around the Red-Eyes Black Dragon's neck, becoming a metal collar of sorts.
Red-Eyes Black Dragon: Atk 3000
"Now then, I think it's time to put you out of your misery Crow," Thomas continued, "As my Keeper of the Shrine counts as two sacrifices when used for the summon of a Dragon. So I sacrifice my Keeper of the Shrine in order to Summon another Red-Eyes Black Dragon!" The dragon-man hybrid turned into a red and black portal that allowed another Red-Eyes Black Dragon to fly through, roaring triumphantly.
Red-Eyes Black Dragon: Atk 2400, Def 2100, LV 7
"Two dragons again?" Crow was only slightly surprised.
"You're one to talk," Allana pointed out. "Just look at your teammate's field!"
Crow shrugged. Thomas meanwhile, was making his move. "I'll have my weaker of the two Red-Eyes attack Crow's Gale the Whirlwind! Go Inferno Fire Blast!" The Red-Eyes Black Dragon without the Black Metal Dragon collar roared and began gathering energy in its mouth.
"You better do something quickly!" Dani warned.
"Come on Dani, you know I'm ready for this," Crow said confidently, even as the Red-Eyes launched a red and black orb of fiery energy right at his smaller Blackwing. "I activate a Trap! Black Wing!" The trap flipped face up, getting in between Gale the Whirlwind and the incoming attack.
"What does that do?" Thomas asked, growling in frustration.
"Well, since you attacked, I can remove one of my Blackwings from the Graveyard to negate all attacks from monsters that have 2000 or more Attack points for this turn," Crow explained with that defiant smirk of his. "So I remove my Blackwing – Bora the Spear from my Graveyard to negate your attacks for the turn!" The Trap card morphed into the Blackwing, taking the incoming attack with a mighty explosion, buffeting Crow and Dani with its power, but saving the Blackwings and more importantly Crow's Life Points from harm.
Thomas was not happy with that results, but it could've been worse. "You lucked out of this one, but I guarantee that you won't get another turn! Allana will finish you off! I end my turn with a facedown!"
Dani turned to Crow before drawing a card. "Hey Crow?"
"Yeah?"
Dani smiled at him. "Thanks for taking that Fire Blast."
Crow just shrugged and rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. "Yeah, well, I wasn't gonna let anything happen to you."
Dani nodded before that fierce look came over her face again. "Since Crow was willing to sacrifice so much for me, it's only fair that I return the favor. It's my turn!" She drew a card and smiled. "Time to show you another one of my new cards!" She plucked two cards from her hand and held them up. "Now, in order to summon this card, I have to show that I have a Blue-Eyes White Dragon in my hand." She flipped the first card around, revealing her Blue-Eyes White Dragon. "Here's the Blue-Eyes in my hand." Dani then flipped the other card around. "Which means I can Special Summon this Dragon from my hand to the field! Come forth, Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon!" She placed the second card on her Duel Disk, returning the first card to her hand in the process.
"Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon?!" Thomas repeated, confused. A portal appeared on the ground next to the Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon and out came a dragon that looked a lot like the Blue-Eyes White Dragon except for a few key details, the first being that his scales were slightly whiter than the normal Blue-Eyes and second, that azure energy appeared to be flowing through his veins, bright enough to be seen through his scales. The new Dragon roared, prompting the other two Blue-Eyes dragons on the field to add their roars to the din directed at Thomas and Allana.
Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon: Atk 3000, Def 2500, LV 8
Kibo chose that moment to speak up. "That's Gineun! Hi Gineun!"
Dani paused, thinking back to where she'd heard that name. She glanced at Crow with a questioning look on her face. "The third of her imaginary dragon friends?"
"I guess so," Crow said simply, glancing from the new dragon back to Kibo before meeting Dani's eye. "Who'da thunk it?"
"Guess they aren't that imaginary after all," Dani remarked. "I'll activate my Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon's special ability! Now I can destroy any monster on the field in exchange for not being able to attack with him this turn!" Her newest dragon roared as azure energy seemed to pulse through his veins, energy beginning to pull together in his mouth, casting a blue light over the battlefield.
"They can do that?!" Thomas exclaimed.
"They sure can!" Dani retorted, "Now, Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon, take out Allana's Arch-Lightsworn with your Scared Azure Fire Blast!" The Alternative White Dragon roared and unleashed a huge stream of blue flames that consumed Michael the Arch-Lightsworn, buffeting Allana with its sheer power.
"Allana!" Thomas yelled in concern.
"Do not worry about me," the Lady of Light said. "For when Michael the Arch-Lightsworn is destroyed, I'm allowed to return any number of Lightsworn monsters in my Graveyard back into my Deck, and for each Lightsworn I return, I gain 300 Life Points."
"Uh-oh," Kokoro said simply.
Allana examined her Graveyard, smiling ever so slightly. "I have 11 Lightsworns total in my Graveyard, eight of them with different names. So I shall return 7 of those Lightsworns to my Deck and gain 2100 Life Points." The translucent image of the Arch-Lightsworn appeared behind Allana, the man holding his sword in the air and gathering a white aura around that sword. Michael pointed the sword at Allana, the aura flowing from the sword into Allana, who seemed to enjoy the rejuvenating feeling of that aura, even as she placed her Lightsworns into her Deck, letting the Duel Disk shuffle the cards.
Allana LP: 5100
"And next I activate my Trap card," Allana continued. "Glorious Illusion, which revives the Lightsworn that you just destroyed. Come back to me, Michael the Arch-Lightsworn!" The heavens opened once more, allowing the shining knight riding the Judgment Dragon to descend and land in front of its mistress, looking a tad peeved at having just been destroyed.
Michael, the Arch-Lightsworn: Atk 2800, Def 2000, LV 7
"The only cost of reviving my Arch-Lightsworn with Glorious Illusion is that I must send the top two cards from my Deck to my Grave each turn," Allana explained, sending the aforementioned cards to the Grave. "And since I sent cards from my Deck to the Grave, my Realm of Light gains another counter which powers up my Arch-Lightsworn even more!" Another flame appeared on the temple, shining its light down on the field and sending its power towards the Synchro Lightsworn.
Shine Counters: 3 Michael the Arch-Lightsworn Atk: 2900
Dani took this turn of events in stride. "Fine, then I'll activate my own Trap, Dragon's Rebirth, and banish my Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon to re-summon the Blue-Eyes White Dragon that I used to Synchro Summon the Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon!" The Alternative White Dragon roared as his scales began to crack, energy leaking out until the dragon shattered, revealing the normal Blue-Eyes White Dragon that had taken his place.
Blue-Eyes White Dragon: Atk 3000, Def 2500, LV 8
"Nice," Crow complimented, "You used the Alternative White Dragon to get rid of the Arch-Lightsworn, then since he wasn't able to attack, you sacrificed it to bring out another Blue-Eyes that can attack!"
Dani nodded before continuing with her next move. "I'll attack that Arch-Lightsworn with my Blue-Eyes White Dragon! You don't have your Lightsworn Barrier around thanks to Crow, so you have no means of stopping his White Lightning attack!" Her White Dragon seemed to agree with that sentiment, roaring and gathering brilliant white energy in its maw.
Just as the Blue-Eyes White Dragon fired its attack, Thomas decided to intervene. "I activate my Trap, Mirror Force! Now all your attacking monsters are destroyed!" The White Lightning attack hit a rainbow barrier that appeared in front of the Arch-Lightsworn and doubled in power before it was sent flying back towards both Dani's and Crow's monsters, splitting into six orbs of destructive energy.
"Watch out!" Hikari shouted.
"I play my Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon's special ability!" Dani said quickly as her newest Synchro monster turned into a ball of light. "During either player's turn, I can sacrifice my Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon in order to Special Summon a Light Attribute Dragon Type Synchro monster from my Extra Deck!" The ball of light that had been her Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon turned into 9 brilliant stars that orbited in a ring above Dani's head.
Dani began her Summon chant for her favorite monster. "Shadow of a blinding light, shining just as brightly as a star itself! White turns to silver and blue turns to azure, both blinding in their magnificence! Rise up and let your light rise with you!" The stars merged together and became an orb of silvery energy. "I Summon forth the Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon!" The evolved form of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon formed from the orb of energy, limbs, head, tail and body growing from the orb. With a final flash, the Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon fully formed and let out a roar.
Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon: Atk 2500, Def 3000, LV 9
"Now my Azure-Eyes special ability activates," Dani continued, ignoring the incoming blast from the mirror force. "Now that she's been summoned, she prevents her fellow dragons from being destroyed by card, until the end of the next turn!" True to her words, the Silver Dragon leaped in front of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon and flared her wings, taking three of the blasts easily.
"Maybe you saved your own monsters, but you can't save Crow's!" Thomas pointed out as the other three blasts took out Crow's Armor Master, Gale the Whirlwind, and Zephyros the Elite.
"No…" Dani gasped, realizing what she had just done. She looked at Crow with sorrow in her eyes. "I'm sorry Crow."
To her surprise, Crow grinned and winked at her. "Don't sweat it. I've got it covered. You just keep doing what you were doing."
Dani blinked in surprise, seeing that confident look in Crow's eyes. She nodded and turned back to the battle. "You dodged one of my attacks, but let's see your Arch Lightsworn stop my other Blue-Eyes White Dragon's attack! Go Blue Flare attack!" The other Blue-Eyes Dragon inhaled deeply before releasing another stream of bright blue fire that incinerated the Arch-Lightsworn, scorching Allana a little in the process.
Allana LP: 5000
"Again, Michael the Arch-Lightsworn's ability activates and I send the two Lightsworns that had been sent to the Grave to activate Glorious Illusion back to my Deck in order to gain 600 Life Points," Allana said calmly as she performed the declared action, letting her yellow and white Duel Disk shuffle her Deck. Again, the image of the Arch-Lightsworn appeared above her head and bequeathed its healing aura onto the Lady of Light, causing the kanji on her forehead to pulse that much more brightly.
Allana LP: 5600
"Let's take those Life Points down a bit then," Dani said, "Azure Eyes, attack her directly!" The Blue-Eyes Synchro monster unleashed a steady stream of silver fire at Allana, who took the blast calmly, though not without a shout of pain.
"Allana!" Thomas shouted in concern as the flames died down. He shot a murderous glare at Dani, who returned his scowl with one of her own.
"I am fine, beloved," Allana said simply. She straightened up and maintained a steadfast figure. "She can do no more damage this turn."
Allana LP: 3100
Dani scowled at her. 'She's right though. I can't do anything else to her, and she's up next. Meanwhile, thanks to my attacks, Crow doesn't have any monsters to protect himself, just that one facedown. Unless it's Negate Attack or something that blocks attacks, he'll be wide open to whatever Allana throws at him. He's got several cards in his hand, but they'll be useless until his turn. Come on Dani, you owe it to Crow to defend him until his next turn.' She glanced at Crow, who didn't seem all that worried. 'I guess he has a plan. Still, if I can help him out in any way possible, I should.'
Dani's thoughts were interrupted by the cheering from Crow's kids. She glanced back and saw them cheering for both her and Crow. They looked scared, but they were trying to put on a brave face for Crow. Even Kibo was cheering them on, in her own quiet way. "You can do it guys!" made up the majority of the cheers from the kids.
Feeling inspired once more, Dani faced the couple from the Chaos Movement. "I end my turn with a facedown!"
"Then it's my turn!" Allana said, drawing a card. "I'm sure you're wondering why I didn't add all my Lightsworns from my Grave to my Deck when you destroyed my Arch-Lightsworn."
"No, not really," Crow answered simply.
"By leaving four Lightsworns with different names in my Graveyard, it allows me to summon forth the ultimate creature of the Lightsworn deck," Allana continued, the light kanji pulsing fiercely on her forehead. She began chanting. "Jain! Ryko! Rinyan! Michael! By the dying sparks of their sacrifice, I call upon you! Open the sky and reveal yourself to those who will be damned by your might! Come forth Judgment Dragon!"
"Ohhh crapbaskets," Dani groaned as the large white dragon descended from the heavens once more, without its rider, but looking aggravated nonetheless.

Allana held up her hand to the dragon, light energy pulsing from her hand into the dragon. She locked eyes with Thomas, who nodded. "And next, I activate his special ability! By giving up 1000 Life Points, I can destroy every other card on the field!" The Judgment Dragon absorbed the energy from Allana and began to glow with power.
Allana LP: 2100
"Are you crazy?" Crow blurted out, "You'll destroy your boyfriend's dragons as well!"
"And thanks to Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon's special ability, my dragons can't be touched by your card effects!" Dani added. Her Silver Dragon again flew in front of the other two dragons, ready to take the blow.
"That will be made irrelevant by his face down card," Allana said simply. "Now go my Judgment Dragon, and take out their facedowns!" The ultimate Lightsworn dragon stomped his forepaws onto the ground, unleashing a wave of light energy that obliterated all the facedowns on the field and Thomas' two Red-Eyes Black Dragons. However, even as the light faded, Crow could see around the spots that had appeared from the bright light of the Judgment Dragon that the remains of the two Red-Eyes Black Dragons were pulling together.
"Since she destroyed my facedown card Return of the Red-Eyes," Thomas began, "I'm allowed to Special Summon one Red-Eyes monster from my Graveyard. Come back, Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon!" The metallic version of the famous dragon materialized from the scales of the fallen Red-Eyes Black Dragons, fire frothing at its mouth.
Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon: Atk 2800, Def 2400, LV 10
"Now then, since you have no facedowns on the field, I think it is time to end this particular Signer," Allana declared, "Though why you were given a Mark of the Crimson Dragon, I do not know. You don't have any signature dragon, you don't have any special abilities that hasn't been covered by the rest of your fellow Signers, what on earth possessed the Crimson Dragon to give you a Mark?"
"I know just about as well as you do," Crow shot back, "But just because I'm late to the party doesn't mean I'm not just as valuable a member to the team."
"Regardless, you shall fall here," Allana said, "Judgment Dragon, take him out now with your Light of Hope!" Her deck ace roared and began to gather light energy in his mouth.
"Watch out Crow!" came the collective cry from the kids as the Judgment Dragon fired its beam of pure power from its mouth.
"I'm not going anywhere!" Crow shouted. "I activate the special ability of my Blackwing – Ghibli the Searing Wing in my hand! Now that you've made a direct attack against me, I can now summon him from my hand to block your attack!" He played the card on his Duel Disk and a six-winged black and red feathered bird appeared in front of the oncoming attack, wings held up protectively in defense mode.
Blackwing – Ghibli the Searing Wing: Atk 0, Def 1600, LV 3
The Blackwing was incinerated by the Judgment Dragon's attack, but Crow was untouched by the attack. Allana didn't seem all that flustered. "Fine then. I'll place a card facedown and end my turn, which mean my Judgment Dragon's special ability forces me to discard four cards from the top of my Deck to the Graveyard."
Dani let out a sigh of relief as Allana discarded the cards. "That was a close one!"
Allana smirked at her as her Disk spat out a card from the Graveyard. "Maybe so, but I'm allowed to bring out my Wulf from the Graveyard thanks to his special ability, and since your Spirit Dragon is gone, you can't stop this summon!" She played the card and a white-furred wolf-man with a golden halberd and golden claws appeared next to her dragon, looking rather small in comparison, but still plenty fierce.

"You better make this last turn count Crow," Thomas warned, "Because you won't make it through to the next round."
"Oh, is that so?" Crow was not amused. "Everyone just keeps on putting me down. But I make sure I pull through when it counts. I did it against Grieger, I did it against Goodwin, I'll do it against you too! I am a Signer, and I'll do whatever it takes to protect these kids! I have to win this Duel for them!" His Mark of the Crimson Dragon lit up brightly.

Jack paused in his Duel, feeling the pulse from his Mark. "Crow? What's going on in your Duel?"
"Don't try to deflect the issue!" Draco interrupted his musings as he drew a card. "It's my turn!"
Speed Counters: 4
"I feel it too!" Yusei said over the comm, "Something big is happening at Crow's!"
Akiza's Car
The Psychic Duelist had pulled over on one of the high rises that overlooked a good chunk of the Satellite so that they could follow the Duel on both her dashboard screen and see where the Turbo Duel actually was, through both the teal green fire streaking along and the kanji of dragons following the Duel in the sky. Of course, Akiza and Luna's simultaneous gasps got everybody's attention off of Jack's Duel for the moment.
"What's wrong Luna?" Leo asked hurriedly, concerned for his sister.
"It's Crow," Luna said, looking at her Mark before glancing in the direction of Crow's hideout.
"Crow?" Yugi asked. "What about him?"
"The Crimson Dragon's power is flowing towards him," Akiza replied. "I'm not entirely sure what it means, but all we can do is support him." Kaiba merely grunted, turning his eyes back to the screen.
Entrance to the Crow's Nest
"The Crimson Dragon chose me for whatever reason," Crow continued, ignoring his Mark. "So I'm going to do my best to live up to that honor!" Not far away, the Blackbird had activated and several things were happening at once. Crow's words had registered in the audio receptors for any voice command functions, and his words triggered several actions. The mechanisms within the Duel Runner began to shift ever so slightly, the passcode having been accepted. To everyone's surprise, the Blackbird revved its engines.
"What the-" Dani started, looking at the Runner. She flinched in surprise as a card came flying out of the Runner, a card that was caught by Crow. "What is it?"
Crow looked at the card in awe. "Pearson…"
"Who's Pearson?" Dani asked.
"What's going on?" Thomas demanded.
Crow bowed his head in respect for his fallen mentor before facing the two from the Chaos Movement. "It's an old friend who going to help me defeat you two. It's my turn!" He looked at the card he drew and grinned. "Now I summon the Tuner monster Blackwing – Kochi the Daybreak from my hand!" A stork-like Blackwing appeared on the field, flapping its wings eagerly.
Blackwing – Kochi the Daybreak: Atk 700, Def 1500, LV 4
"Next, since there's a Blackwing on my field, I can special summon this bad boy from my hand as well!" Crow continued, "Another Blackwing – Bora the Spear!" The birdman with a spiral lance appeared next to Kochi the Daybreak.
Blackwing – Bora the Spear: Atk 1700, Def 800, LV 4
"So does this mean we're gonna see Silverwind the Ascendant?" Thomas asked.
"You may have done your homework on my Deck, but I'm not going to Synchro Summon him," Crow said, glaring at him. "Just as Pearson was willing to risk his all to protect these kids, so am I! I Tune my Kochi the Daybreak with Bora the Spear!" The Blackwing Tuner dissolved into four stars that expanded out into four green rings. Those four rings surrounded Bora the Spear, who faded into four more stars that aligned in the rings.
Crow began chanting. "Darkened gale, become the wings that soar from resolved hope!" A brilliant light erupted within the rings. "Synchro Summon! Soar to power! Black-Winged Dragon!" The light faded and revealed the Black-Winged Dragon in all its glory. The new dragon spread its white-feathered wings and roared, long tail lashing in anticipation.
Black-Winged Dragon: Atk 2800, Def 1600, LV 8
"Whoa," Dani gasped as she took in this new dragon. "Incredible!" She'd seen many dragons before in her relatively short life, but none like this one.
"This dragon embodies both Pearson's and my commitment to protecting our loved ones!" Crow said. "And I'll show you! First I place one card face down."
"It won't help you," Thomas warned, "Your dragon only has enough attack points to rival my Darkness Metal Dragon, and I guarantee you that I will have a monster stronger than that dragon next turn."
"I don't think so!" Crow countered. "But first things first, I'm activating Zephyros the Elite's special ability from the Graveyard. By returning a Magic or Trap card from the field to my hand, I can summon Zephyros from my Graveyard!" The blue-headed birdman appeared next to Black-Winged Dragon and began to glow red. "However, I must take 400 points of damage to activate this effect!"
"Ha!" Thomas laughed. "You just committed suicide! Your Life Points will be gone!" The red aura around Zephyros zoomed skywards, curving around towards Crow. Much to everyone's surprise, the Black-Winged Dragon flew in the way of the aura, taking the blow, uttering a roar of pain from the damage he had just absorbed
"My Life Points are safe," Crow retorted, "Thanks to Black-Winged Dragon's special ability, he takes the damage I would've taken, reducing his Attack points by the amount of damage I would've taken." The Black-Winged Dragon roared again, punctuating his statement. A feather on each of Black-Winged Dragon's wings turned black with red highlights.
Black-Winged Dragon: Atk 2400
"Why would you reduce your own monster's attack points?" Allana asked, confused.
Crow ignored her. "Next, by placing one card facedown, Blackwing – Zephyros the Elite is destroyed thanks to his special ability." He placed the card on his Duel Disk and Zephyros shattered. "Once again, I can special summon Zephyros the Elite to the field by returning one card to my hand! I'll take 400 points of damage, but that is negated by Black-Winged Dragon's special ability!" Once again, the Blackwing appeared on the field, sending a red aura towards Crow that was blocked by the Black-Winged Dragon. Another feather on the Black-Winged Dragon turned black and red.
Black-Winged Dragon: Atk 2000
"Why are you doing this?" Thomas demanded as Crow continued the process. Zephyros would appear, strike Black-Winged Dragon with his aura, then shatter once more. Over and over, this process continued.
"This Dragon is just like my mentor, Robert Pearson," Crow explain, "He wouldn't hesitate to take the hits for all of us over and over again, cuz the most important thing to him was us kids!" He held out a hand indicating the kids he had watched over. "Time and time again, Pearson put everyone else first and himself last, just like his dragon is doing for me now. Over and over, he sacrificed himself! And he even did it when it meant he could lose everything! He did it for the children, and he ended up paying the ultimate price!"
Black-Winged Dragon: Atk 800
"What does it matter what this Pearson fellow did?" Thomas asked warily, watching Zephyros shatter once more. Allana was quiet. This man was more noble than she had been led to believe.
Black-Winged Dragon: Atk 400
"Just as Pearson was willing to sacrifice everything, his dragon is willing to pay the ultimate price too! It's a symbol of how far I'm willing to go to protect my friends, my family, everyone I love!" Crow shouted, a tear in his eye. Zephyros the Elite appeared once more on the field, sending his red aura towards Crow. Like all the other times, the Black-Winged Dragon intercepted the aura, roaring in pain as he absorbed the aura.

"It's Attack points are all gone!" Hikari shouted.
"Does that mean he's?" Taiga asked, unwilling to finish the dreaded question.
Dani watched this process in awe, hearing Crow's words and feeling them resonate in her heart. "It's wings! They're completely black!"
"Pearson may be gone," Crow began, wiping that tear that was threatening to fall away, "But through the power of this dragon, he's still protecting us! I play Black-Winged Dragon's other ability! Now the Attack points of my Dragon are returned to their full amount and the Attack points of one of your monsters is reduced by all the damage he negated!" The Black-Winged Dragon's eyes began glowing bright red and he brought his silver legs together, dark electricity growing into a black orb between his legs.
"He does what?!" Thomas exclaimed. Out of all the possible outcomes, he hadn't expected this.
"Go Blackwing Burst!" Crow yelled, "Reduce the Attack points of his Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon!" His new Synchro Monster launched the orb of black and dark red electricity which struck the metal dragon on Thomas' side of the field, causing that dragon to howl in pain.

Dani could only watch in awe. "Wow…"
"Now that facedown card I kept placing over and over to bring Zephyros to the field?" Crow asked, "I'm going to play it! I activate Against the Wind! Now I can bring back a Blackwing from my Graveyard by taking the Attack points of that monster as damage to my Life Points! But I think you know who'll be taking the damage for me!" The Tail Signer grinned. "Now come on back, Blackwing Armor Master!" As the humanoid Blackwing Synchro appeared once more, a sudden gale rose up, a gale that the Black-Winged Dragon shielded Crow from. Most of his wings immediately turned black, save for one feather on each wing.

"Now I'll play his special ability once more," Crow announced, "And this time, I'll be coming after your Judgment Dragon! Go Blackwing Burst!" As before, the Black-Winged Dragon roared as it unleashed all the pain it had suffered into another orb of black and dark red lightning that was flung at the Judgment Dragon, earning another howl of pain from that dragon as well. The lightning continued to flicker around both Thomas' and Allana's dragons while the feathers on Black-Winged Dragon returned to their normal white color.

"No way…" Thomas gasped. "Both our dragons?!"
"That's right!" Crow grinned. "You underestimated me and now it's time for me to show you what I got! Blackwing Armor Master attack that Judgment Dragon with Soaring Shadow Strike!"
"No! Allana!" Thomas cried out, but he was helpless to do anything. His facedowns were gone thanks to Allana. He could only watch as the Blackwing Synchro flew forward and punched the weakened Lightsworn ace, shattering the dragon with his pure power.
"No!" Allana shouted as the damage buffeted her. Two shards of light energy struck her in her eyes and she collapsed with a shriek of pain.
Allana LP: 0
"ALLANA!" Thomas yelled in despair, running over and catching Allana before she could hit the pavement hard. He looked at Crow with rage in his eyes. "You'll pay for that!"
"I'd like to see you cash in!" Crow shot back. "Blackwing – Zephyros the Elite, attack that Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon now with your Night Slash Strike! " Blackwing Zephyros the Elite charged the Darkness Metal Dragon, who tried to retaliate but was paralyzed by the lightning from Black-Winged Dragon. The smallest of the three Blackwings on the field slashed the Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon dead on the chest, shattering the dragon and hitting Thomas with the shards, but he seemed more interested in protecting Allana from the damage than in the Duel at this point.
Thomas LP: 2400
"Yeah! Way to go Crow!" Daichi shouted.
"You're the best!" Kokoro added.
"Now Black-Winged Dragon, attack Thomas directly with Shadow Squall Blast!" Crow shouted. The Black-Winged Dragon roared and unleashed a blast of red and black energy at the couple in front of him. Thomas shielded Allana, closing his eyes as the attack engulfed the two of them. The Black-Winged Dragon's attack hit them and exploded, sending a gust of wind that blew away the fires of the Chaos Movement, the red, white, black and yellow flames trapping the Duelists in the circle becoming mere embers that soon were extinguished. The Realm of Light faded from sight, nothing more than a bad memory at this point.
Thomas LP: 0
"Nicely done Crow," Dani said simply to Crow. He grinned at her in return, but his attention was grabbed by movement within the smoke cloud.
"I don't think we're done here yet," Crow groaned. The smoke cleared to reveal that Thomas had stood up, holding Allana in his arms bridal style.
"I don't know what you did to Allana, but I promise that I will make you Signers pay," Thomas vowed as he climbed onto his Runner.
"You'll be the one who pays if I see you around here again," Crow warned. "Stay away from my kids, or it won't be your Duel Deck that I come after. I'll be coming after you, got it?"
Thomas didn't say anything. He just had that angry look on his face. It wasn't pure rage though. There was sorrow, and just a hint of regret. After a long, pregnant pause, he finally spoke. "I'm sorry we attacked the kids. But when they aren't around, you better watch out. Because the next time we meet, I swear it will be your last Duel." With that, he mounted his Runner, carrying the unconscious Allana with him, and he rode off, leaving Allana's Runner behind. Crow grinned as he turned around and saw Dani going up to her dragons, giving each of them a congratulatory rub on their snouts, drawing contented growls from each of them before they faded. The Tail Signer watched Dani approach his Black-Winged Dragon. She sized it up, even as the Black-Winged Dragon leaned in, its yellow snout appearing to sniff her.
"You are an incredible dragon," Dani said simply, grabbing the snout of the Black-Winged Dragon and stroking it gently, much like how she did with Azure-Eyes. "Take care of Crow." The Black-Winged Dragon appeared to rumble an affirmative before fading from sight.
"You sure do have a way with dragons," Crow joked as he approached.
Dani smiled at that. "Well, you've seen my Deck. Besides, now that I'm a mother of a child, I don't see why I can't be a mother of dragons too." Crow chuckled at the reference. Before he could say anything, he found himself swarmed by his kids, all of them shouting something along the lines of "You were amazing!" and "Way to go!"
"Settle down guys," Crow said, trying to keep the kids from getting too rambunctious, but that was about as simple as herding cats. Dani giggled as she watched Crow trying to keep order when she felt a familiar tug on her jeans. Looking down, she smiled as she scooped up Kibo.
"You're the best mommy," Kibo said as she hugged her adoptive mother. The innocence of a child was certainly touching.
"What can I say?" Dani responded, rubbing Kibo's back reassuringly, "I'm just protecting my new family." She watched Crow try to corral his kid's excitement, coping with her own array of emotions. 'I didn't think I could ever allow myself to have such strong feelings for somebody. Not since Sarah was taken away. But maybe, just maybe, this time will be different.'

"Now then," Draco began, "High time I put an end to you!"

"Not if I can help it," Jack retorted, "I activate Fiendish Chain, which prevents one of your monsters from attacking and he can't activate his special ability!" The Trap card flipped up and several chains came flying out, ensnaring the Dragon Ruler of Abyss.
"Yeah, now it can't touch Jack's Life Points!" Yusei said.
"I have other ways of affecting your Life Points," Draco laughed. "I activate the effect of Speed World 2! By removing four of my Speed Counters, I can dish out 800 points of damage for each Speed Spell I have in my hand!"
Needless to say, Jack was surprised. "What?! Speed World 2 can do that?"
"It sure can!" Draco laughed as he pulled ahead of Jack and revved his engines, teal flames spewing out from his engines and washing over Jack. The Wings Signer groaned as the heat burned at him, but he persevered.

"I don't think Jack was expecting that to happen," Kaiba noted.
"This is definitely new," Akiza said. "I may not be a Turbo Duelist, but I know about Speed World. It's what everyone uses, until now I guess."
"Good thing he played that Fiendish Chain," Yugi commented.
"Jack's awesome!" Leo cheered, "He's not as good as Yusei, but he's still pretty good!"

"Now, I'll discard the Lightning, Dragon Ruler of Drafts and the Luster, Dragon Ruler of Heavens in my hand in order to Special Summon Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms from my Deck!" Draco announced. The large light dragon and the small wind dragon flew high into the sky, causing storm clouds to form right above the Duel. Lightning came crashing down from the clouds, forcing Jack to take evasive action.
"Watch out!" Yusei warned. A roar from the cloud got their attention and a large dragon that looked as though he was made out of the very wind himself appeared.

"Now, go my Dragon Ruler of Storms, attack Jack directly!" Draco commanded, "Shooting Sky Attack!" The latest Dragon Ruler roared and charged, blue streaks of energy gathering around it as the dragon prepared to attack.
"This is bad," Yusei said, "If Jack takes this attack, then his Life Points will drop below 1000, which means Fiendish Chain is destroyed, freeing that Dragon Ruler of Abyss will be free to attack!"
"This is the end of you Atlas!" Draco declared. "Time to finish you off once and for all!"
"Bring it on!" Jack shot back, even as the dragon swooped in to attack.
Well, this certainly was an entertaining chapter to write. Yes, I gave Crow the Black-Winged Dragon earlier than when he got it in canon. I felt that it was appropriate, all things considered. I don't think it would mess up the canon that much either, as Crow only dueled the old man that settled at Martha's and the clock boy before his showdown with Bolton that unveiled the Black-Winged Dragon. We also got to see some more of Dani's new Blue-Eyes cards, as well as Yugi and Kaiba witnessing a real live Turbo Duel. Hope you all enjoyed the chapter!
Question for the chapter: What do you think the Master's punishment for failure will be this time? I've given a hint to it as the Duel concluded.
