Hello everyone, the Nutty Buddy is back. I'm really sorry this took so long. This past winter was…rough. My grandfather, with whom I had a really close relationship with, died this past February of pancreatic cancer, and I did not take it well. I spiraled into depression and it wasn't til May that I snapped out of it. Then my editor had problems of his own, and that delayed this final product even further. Still, over 20,000 words this chapter, as well as the first team-up of the protagonists and emotional torment, I hope this long chapter will make up for it. Due to the ending of this chapter, I'm going to do my usual conclusion up top. You'll understand why this chapter. This'll be the chapter that could potentially push this fic into a rated M territory, but since I figured Teen is the equivalent of PG-13, so long as the events of this chapter are a bit of a one time deal, I can get away with it. Again, I'm sorry this took so long to update, life spiraled out of control for me, but it's not much of an excuse. I just hope you'll continue to support me through this endeavor of mine.

.

Question for the Chapter: So in the GX poll, Zane and Syrus are currently tied with 12 votes and fighting for that final spot in the GX group for Chaos Unleashed. My question to you would be who would you rather see? A revitalized Zane mostly recovered from his heart problems and back to his Cyber Dragon Deck that served him so well, or a Syrus coming into his own, using his 'Roids machines and growing into his own Duelist, out from his brother's shadow? Which would make for a more compelling story? I'd like to hear your thoughts on it, as I'm torn between the two. Zane is the badass rival, Syrus the loveable sidekick.

Response to Guest Reviews (In order with which they reviewed):

Miko: I hope you kept reading, because there is character development that you're missing out on at the chapter of your review. Glad you're enjoying the story though!

Boogie da hoodie, Rc9gn, drippy phantom, and all the other names you're trying to utilize, I know you're the same guy. I'm trying, ok? This winter was rough for me.

SmurfQueen: Glad you enjoyed it, as for your thoughts on Arc-V and its involvement in this story, well, let's just say that the entire Yugioh universe that I'm making is more intertwined than you'd think.

Guest: Thank you.

Guest: Well, you were half right in your speculation.

Guest: I understand your reasoning behind wanting a Dark Yusei. Truly, I do. I acknowledge that it could make for a fascinating storyline, of redemption for Yusei, of heroics from Akiza, and all the shenanigans in between. I just didn't have a plan for turning him dark for this story, so I'm not going to go out of my way to insert one fan's fantasized storyline into my story. I'm sorry. I hope that you'll get your story someday, but given everything on my plate, I honestly don't see it coming from my camp anytime soon. Not unless someone wants to pay me, hehe. I appreciate your thoughts on it though.

Guest: I'm excited to get to the Divine Arc in my planned "Alternate 5D's Season 2" story, still working on a title for it. It'll be something to remember, in terms of character growth for Akiza and the rest of the gang. I just have to get to it first. Akiza will be dealing with some repercussions of her actions as the Black Rose, don't you worry, especially in the WRGP, and I promise, you will not want to miss my variation of the WRGP. I like RobotFish's variation on it (though he could've used a bit more details in Dueling, not to mention skimming over other important bits), and hopefully, with his permission, I might take some of his ideas and improve upon it. Thank you again for a well thought out review.

Guest: you're not wrong there. I plan on it being post Dark Side of Dimensions for Yugi and Co, a year after graduation for Jaden and Co, 3 months after Z-ONE's defeat for Yusei and Co, and for Zexal it'll be immediately after the series ended. It's going to be tricky, juggling so many characters, and it might lead to more than one "filler" chapter of character interactions we never got to see, but I'm going to try my best to make it work.

The past few chapters have been edited by my best friend, who unfortunately lost his Figment account when it got shut down. He has plans to revive his fanfiction account, which is currently under the name of Errol John, but he plans on changing it to Joseph Whipple in the future, so give him a follow to show your support! I honestly consider him a superior author to me, so please, give him some support, especially if you're a Star Wars fan. He's also working on a story that has lore that has potential to be as rich as Lord of the Rings. I'm not using hyperbole there. Go check him out.

Now then, time for the disclaimer. Hope you all enjoy the chapter!

Chapter 36: A Death in the Family

The spectators for this upcoming Duel could practically taste the tension. The power these two Duelists from the Chaos Movement emanated didn't sit well with Jack Atlas. Something about them and the way they carried themselves; Jack couldn't place a finger on that exact feeling and it rankled him. A glance over at Seto Kaiba told him that he was experiencing similar unease.

"I don't like this one bit," he commented. "These two aren't like the other peons we've been facing."

Crow glanced over at the former Turbo King. "I'm sure Yugi and Yusei can handle them."

Kaiba grunted. "I doubt this will be an easy task. The way those two carry themselves, it's obvious they're powerful Duelists. I've seen enough Duels to know just how powerful someone can be at a glance. Whether or not they could take me, well, that I doubt. But I know they'd at least be able to give me a challenge." He met Crow's gaze. "Whether or not these two can take them remains to be seen."

Dani rolled her eyes. Of course Kaiba couldn't resist stroking his own ego. "Given that the alternative is letting the Master walk all over us, I think we all need to have faith in these two to get the job done."

Yami met the fierce gaze of Matthias. This man wasn't like the others they'd faced from the Movement. He had focus, strength, and an intensity to him matched only by the man beside him. Glancing between the two, Yami realized this was going to be one of his toughest Duels yet. He glanced at Yusei, who had armed his own Duel Disk in preparation for the Duel. The Pharaoh sensed several emotions swirling about the Head Signer: Determination to win. Fear for Akiza. Uncertainty for the future. He only hoped that Yusei didn't let that uncertainty cloud his judgment.

Turning back to his foe, Yami said, "So, Matthias, why don't you let us through and deal with the Master without involving yourself in this dangerous Shadow Game that the he's power has created?"

The cyborg peered at Yami as though he were calculating a proper response. Given all the mechanical upgrades on his being, it wouldn't surprise the Pharaoh if that were true. "Yugi Muto. I know you are working with the spirit of the nameless Pharaoh from ancient Egypt. So, to the both of your spirits, as well as Yusei Fudo, know that we will not be swayed by your words. So stop wasting our time, and let us begin this Duel."

"If you insist," Yami said. 'So much for that idea,' he thought. He only hoped that they could overcome this challenge. The Pharaoh glanced at the Head Signer. "Are you ready, Yusei?"

'Am I ever ready for this?' Yusei thought to himself. 'This isn't even the final Duel we're going to face!' He could feel the pressure of the situation bearing down on him. The battle against Goodwin had been a desperate fight, with the fate of the world on the line, but he knew he could go all out against Goodwin. There had been no reason to hold back.

Now…now doubt was creeping in. With Akiza down, he had to play it safe, just in case the Master had set this up as some sick trap. The Head Signer knew, too, that he had to survive through it himself, if he was to finally face the Master. He could afford no mistakes. Yusei met Yami's gaze. "As ready as I'll ever be."

"Just have faith, my friend," Yami told him gently. "We must have confidence in our Decks, and each other, to win this."

"Then let us begin the Duel!" Matthias declared. "We each shall begin with four thousand Life Points, and none of us can attack on the first turn! Are there any objections?"

Yami and Yusei simply shook their heads.

Matthias LP: 4000

Bario LP: 4000

Yugi LP: 4000

Yusei LP: 4000

"As the King of Games, you are permitted the first move," Matthias told him as they each drew five cards. 'And with that, our chances of victory are that much greater, since his ancient Deck will struggle to keep up. Had Yusei gone first, the probability of winning would decrease to eighty-eight percent.'

"Very well then," Yami said.

'Why is he letting us go first?,' Yugi asked the Pharaoh. 'Wouldn't setting up the field be more advantageous to activate any Traps sooner?'

'You would think so,' Yami thought back. 'Obviously he uses a Deck that would work better going last.'

'You'd better be careful,' Yugi warned.

"It's my turn!" Yami announced. "I draw!" He looked at both the new card and his hand. "I'll start by Summoning my King's Knight in Defense mode!" A stout male warrior in orange and yellow armor appeared in front of him, kneeling and holding his shield up protectively.

King's Knight: Atk 1600, Def 1400, LV 4

"I'll end with one card facedown," the Pharaoh finished. He met the gaze of his foes, as if daring them to come after him. "Your move."

"Then I'll go next," Bario began, no trace of warmth in his voice as he drew a card. "I'll begin by Summoning the Tuner Monster Defender of the Ice Barrier, in Defense mode!" A cold gust of wind blew across the battlefield as a pillar of ice sprouted in front of Bario. The pillar shattered and revealed a fox with an ornate collar, ice sprouting from both the top of his head and tail, crouching in a wary position.

Defender of the Ice Barrier: Atk 200, Def 1600, LV 3

"Next, because I have an Ice Barrier Monster on the field, I'm allowed to Special Summon Prior of the Ice Barrier to the field in Defense mode," Bario continued. A man in a blue and white hooded robe appeared, sapphire jeweled staff held in front protectively.

Prior of the Ice Barrier: Atk 1000, Def 400, LV 2

"Defender of the Ice Barrier's ability now activates," Bario noted as the fox began to glow with an icy blue aura. "Since I control another Ice Barrier card, any monster you have with more Attack points than Defender's Defense points can't attack. However, I am not allowed to Special Summon any Level five or above monsters for the remainder of the turn, since I used Prior of the Ice Barrier's special ability to Summon him." Ice formed around the fox from the aura, forming a shield against their foes.

"Then how are they supposed to destroy that Defender?!" Crow asked, grey eyes wide. "They can't even attack!"

"There's more than one way to skin that fox," Jack pointed out. "You of all people should know that."

"I'll end with two facedowns," Bario finished, getting their attention again.

"Looks like I'm up," Yusei said, drawing a card. "First, I activate the Spell card Reincarnation of Hope. Now by discarding two monster cards, we'll be able to draw a new monster later."

"That's assuming you even make it to then," Matthias said dryly.

"Well right now I'm Summoning Junk Synchron!" Yusei countered. The orange little man with engines on his back appeared in front of him.

Junk Synchron: Atk 1300, Def 500, LV 3

"And because I was able to successfully Summon him, I'm allowed to bring back a Level two or lower monster from my Graveyard in Defense mode, like my Sonic Chick!" Yusei fished the card out of the Graveyard and played it, a small pink bird with large red boots on its feet appearing through the portal Junk Synchron created.

Sonic Chick: Atk 200, Def 300, LV 1

"Next my Quillbolt Hedgehog's ability activates from my Graveyard," the Head Signer continued. "Since there's a Tuner monster on my field, I can bring him back from the Grave!" A portal appeared on the ground and a little hedgehog with bolts replacing the spines on his back crawled out.

Quillbolt Hedgehog: Atk 800, Def 800, LV 2

"Impressive," Kaiba noted. "Three monsters on the field via special abilities through one Normal Summon, negating the drawback of his Spell."

"It's only going to get better," Crow said with a grin.

"He won't be around for long," Yusei said, holding his arm in the air. "Neither will any of my other monsters, cause I'm Tuning the Level one Sonic Chick and Level two Quillbolt Hedgehog to my Level three Junk Synchron!" The orange Tuner pulled his starter cord, the engines on his back revving up before he turned into three stars that expanded out into three green rings. Yusei's other two monsters leaped into those rings, turning into three bright stars as Yusei began his Summon Chant. "When wishes of steel gather round the messenger of the gale, that wish will become an invincible shield! Become the path its light shines upon!" The stars erupted into a brilliant green light. "Synchro Summon! Come out Junk Gardna!" A tall green machine with large shields on its arms appeared with a thud in front of Yusei, shield-arms held up protectively.

Junk Gardna: Atk 1400, Def 2600, LV 6

"I place two cards facedown and end my turn," the Head Signer finished.

"To me then!" Matthias boomed, drawing a card.

"I know Yusei likes to play defense, but this is a little extreme, even for him" Jack observed. "Normally he'd play a monster like Fortress Warrior or Shield Wing on the first turn."

"To be fair, we are Dueling for the fate of the world here," Crow pointed out. "Synchro Summoning on the first turn isn't that out there."

Jack glanced at his old friend. "Given how Yusei tends to feel out his opponents and test their defenses before he strikes, it is a little excessive for him. He usually saves Junk Synchron for an offensive Synchro monster."

"So either Yusei is really scared of what these guys can do, or he's trying to set himself up for a quick takedown," Dani finished, looking back at the vehicles. She could barely make out the visage of the twins through the flames, standing up in the car to see the Duel. "Maybe he thinks the sooner he finishes this, the sooner he can help Akiza."

"Well whatever it is, he better not screw this up," Kaiba grunted.

"Since you have monsters on your field and I have none on mine, I'm allowed to Special Summon the mighty Cyber Dragon directly from my hand!" Matthias announced as he played the card he drew. A large metallic serpent burst out of the ground in front of him, coiling up with a grating growl.

Cyber Dragon: Atk 2100, Def 1600, LV 5

"Next, I Normal Summon Cyber Phoenix in Attack mode," Matthias continued. A metallic bird appeared, screeching a challenge at its opponents.

Cyber Phoenix: Atk 1200, Def 1600, LV 4

"And since Cyber Phoenix is on the field, I'll be able to negate any Spells or Traps you use that will target Machine type monsters," the cyborg explained. "So don't even try it."

Jack leaned forward, surprise on his features. "A Cyber Duelist!"

"What's so special about a Cyber Duelist?" Crow asked, curious as to why Jack suddenly seemed concerned.

The former Turbo King's answer didn't exactly fill them with confidence. "Cyber Duelists are a rare breed indeed. Only the toughest Duelists even dare to try and become a Cyber Duelist and few succeed in taming that Deck's full potential. I Dueled one Cyber Duelist on my way to the top, but he was only a newcomer to the style. I crushed him easily. As rare as Cyber Duelists are, Cyber Masters are even more so. The only true Cyber Masters were the Truesdale brothers, and they retired eons ago. As seen during Truesdales' reign as Asian Champion for several years decades ago, Cyber Masters were damn near impossible to beat."

"I'm impressed that you know your history," Matthias said, getting their attention.

Jack's eyes widened in surprise. "How?"

"I have augmented my hearing," the cyborg interrupted. "Do not presume to hide anything from me, Atlas. Yes, everything you have said about the Cyber art is true. It is hard to learn, and yet I stand before you as the latest Master of the Cyber art. I wield this power to defend the Master, that I may become the one true master of the Cyber, that I may pass it on and ensure it will never die. Twice, the Cyber order has been on the verge of extinction, and twice has it survived, the most recent thanks to myself. I shall never let that happen again. I end my turn with two cards facedown."

"I mean, it's hardly surprising that he's a Cyber Duelist," Crow chimed in.

Jack glanced at him askance.

"After all, he is a cyborg…cyborg, Cyber Dueli—OW!" Crow rubbed the lump on his nape Jack had given him. "It was a bad joke, yea, but was violence really the answer?"

His venomous glare told him it was. Crow muttered a meek "Sorry" and they turned back to the duel. The tension was getting to them all.

"It's my turn!" Yami said, drawing a card. "Whatever your story may be, Matthias, and however noble you think your cause, the Master is only twisting it against you, using you for his purposes and his alone."

"Of course the Master is using me," Matthias admitted. "Just as I am using him for my own purposes. Humans use each other all the time. It's a fact of life. Now stop wasting your words trying to show me the error of my ways and Duel!"

Yami narrowed his eyes at that. He didn't want to give up on a man. He hadn't given up on Rafael and had managed to turn his heart from the Orichalcos. Yet this man, who looked more machine now than man, did not show any sign of regret, or many emotions for that matter. The Pharaoh decided to heed Matthias' words for the moment and focused on his hand. He didn't have anything that would get past that Defender. 'Unless…'he looked at Yusei's Junk Gardna. The Head Signer met his gaze and nodded.

"I play Junk Gardna's ability!" Yusei announced. "Once per turn, I can select a monster on the field and switch its battle mode. So Defender of the Ice Barrier, let's see how well you cope with being switched to Attack mode!" The ice in front of the fox shrank dramatically as it stood upright.

Defender of the Ice Barrier Atk: 200

Bario smirked. "You triggered my Trap card, Yusei. I activate the Trap Ambush of the Ice Barrier! Now since I control two or more Ice Barrier monsters and you just targeted my Ice Barrier with an effect, I'm allowed to Special Summon a Level four or lower Ice Barrier monster from my hand in Attack mode! So, come forth, the Tuner monster Cryomancer of the Ice Barrier!" A pale man dressed in a kilt and white tunic appeared, wielding a club of ice.

Cryomancer of the Ice Barrier: Atk 1300, Def 0, LV 2

"And since I brought him out and I control another Ice Barrier monster, now Level four and higher monsters on my opponent's side of the field can no longer attack," Bario explained. His face was stone, the small smirk when he'd activated his Trap gone as quickly as it had come. His voice was calm, as frigid as the monsters he wielded. "And since there aren't many Level three monsters in your Deck, King of Games, more importantly any monsters with more than thirteen hundred Attack points needed to defeat my Cryomancer, I doubt you'll be able to do anything this turn. So thank you, Yusei."

Yusei flinched. 'No way! He was able to turn my Junk Gardna's ability to his advantage! These people can't be taken lightly.'

"I don't need a monster with more than thirteen hundred Attack points," Yami pointed out. "I just need enough to defeat that Defender of yours."

"He's right," Kaiba grunted. "And he only needs a three hundred Attack point monster to do so. Knowing Yugi, I know exactly which monster he's going to use." His fist clenched at the memory of that monster thwarting Obelisk's attack in Battle City.

"I Summon Kuriboh in Attack mode!" the Pharaoh announced. The brown fuzzy furball appeared in front of him, heralded by its signature coo.

Kuriboh: Atk 300, Def 200, LV 1

Crow chuckled. "Well, that's certainly a monster that'll get past all the barriers he's set up."

"It's kinda cute," Dani admitted. "Not as cute as my dragons, but still, I can see why they keep putting up Kuriboh dolls in the minimarts."

Not far away, Luna watched the Duel unfold as best she could. The flames made it hard to see everything on the field, especially any facedowns, but she could see the monsters well enough. A squeak next to her alerted her to the Duel Spirit of Kuribon. "I know my friend, that's Kuriboh out there. Looks like he's key to getting past Bario's defense."

"Please tell me they're winning," Leo pleaded, down in the backseat with Akiza. She'd stirred several times, and each time Leo was there to hold her hand. He didn't know what to do, so he simply held on to his adoptive big sister, even if no formal papers had been signed signifying as much. Luna looked up to Akiza so much, talking about how she wished she was as strong as her. Leo knew how it hurt Luna to see Aki in this state. He may not have been a Signer, but he did have his twin bond, and that was enough.

"The battles are about the start," Luna informed him. "Kuribon's happy to see her relative about to go to work." The Claw Signer couldn't hide a smile as Kuribon floated up, dancing with excitement. She glanced down at Akiza. "I just wish she could see this."

Akiza's Mind

The Foot Signer made her way up the street of the New Domino City that served as her subconscious. That key to the exit of her mind had to be somewhere. Neither of her other two personalities had found it yet, as evidenced by the constant chatter in her head as both of them tried to get Akiza to join with them.

"I can grant you power," whispered Dark Akiza with a cackle.

"I can grant you the peace you seek," Maid Akiza stated calmly, as if to serve as the counter for Dark Akiza.

"Shut up!" Akiza snapped, unable to hold back her ire. The whispers and temptations were wearing her nerves thin. The psychic Duelist looked down another street, hoping maybe the ankh was there. It wasn't. Akiza sighed, trying to contain the bubbling anger that was welling up. Getting mad wasn't going to accomplish anything, and it would make her vulnerable to her other psyches. Yet she couldn't hold back a growl of frustration, nor did she resist the urge to slam a gloved fist onto the wall. It felt good to vent just a little.

"Yes, allow your anger to grow," Dark Akiza gushed in her ear, sounding as though she were savoring the raw emotions like one would the odors of a Southern United States barbeque. "Your hate makes us powerful."

"I'm not giving you anything!" Akiza growled, pushing herself away from the wall and continuing up the street.

"Not yet you aren't."

Akiza ignored her dark side, difficult as that was, and tried to focus on the task at hand. The ankh was somewhere in here, but where? The Foot Signer thought back to the barroom brawl and when it mysteriously disappeared. She had been desperate to keep it away from her dark side when the ankh vanished. Perhaps she did have some power in her own mind, after all. She had to give it a try.

She held up a hand, closing her eyes in concentration. "Bring the key to me!" She paused, waiting, hoping for something to happen. She was to be disappointed. Perhaps it only worked in moments of extreme emotion. Akiza sighed. Of course it wasn't going to be easy.

'If I made the key disappear, where would I send it?' Akiza asked herself. Probably someplace that she figured would be safe from outside influences. She didn't have many pillars that she could lean on. The Acadia Movement wasn't the stronghold she'd thought it'd be, not since Yusei revealed to her that Sayer had been controlling her. If Akiza didn't know any better, she figured Sayer was the one who put that Black Rose Witch persona in her in the first place.

"Sayer liked me," Dark Akiza whispered. "He helped us grow strong. We can reach that power again."

"Go away!" Akiza snapped, clutching her head. It wasn't going to do her any good to figure out where the key was if her alternate personalities were right there in her head with her.

"You are as much a part of us as we are a part of you," Maid Akiza informed her. "I'm afraid it's not that simple."

The Foot Signer wanted to scream in frustration but knew how futile it would be. This combined mental assault against her was wearing her down. She just wanted a place to quiet her mind. She needed to rest. She needed to get out of her own head! It was so frustrating! It was so-

'Wait a second,' Akiza thought to herself, a sudden revelation coming to her mind. 'That's it! Emotions! Yusei told me about how I can get a hold of my emotions in case my dark side tried to take control! How could I have forgotten?!' She shook her head, berating herself for letting it slip her mind. It had been a month after the final battle against Goodwin when she'd finally worked up the courage to call Yusei, busy as he had been helping to build the Daedalus Bridge. He'd referred her to Martha, who'd referred her to a yoga instructor she'd known. The yogi had been more than willing to come to the home of a wealthy senator and give Akiza a few private lessons on 'dispersing the storms of the mind through the activities of the body,' as the instructor had so elegantly put it.

"That won't save you." Akiza was getting very annoyed with her dark side. It was as persistent as she was when the Foot Signer put her mind to something. Doing her best to shove her nasty persona to the mental side, Akiza took a deep breath, trying to focus on what the instructor had stressed during those long, if dull hours spent on the mats. Her instructor's voice came to her mind, then echoed around the intersection she where was currently.

"Take a deep breath," the older woman had said, the words faint as Akiza tried hard to hold on to the memory. She had been bored to tears during these sessions, and in fact her own mother seemed to enjoy them more than she did. "Allow your mind to relax. Let it flow through you, like a river through the woods. You are one with nature, and nature is one with you."

Akiza took several deep breaths, trying to heedthe instructions. She had to prevail. She wouldn't let herself consider any other alternative.

"You should just give up now," Dark Akiza whispered seductively, "The darkness will be a powerful ally, and so will I once I become the dominant being in here." The Foot Signer stifled a frustrated yell. It wouldn't help. She had to help herself.

Entrance to Chaos Movement

"You may have set up a formidable defense, Bario, but it isn't impenetrable," Yami informed the man. "Now Kuriboh, attack that Defender of the Ice Barrier!" The little brown furball began floating forward, charging the snarling fox in front of the cold samurai. With a cute little squeak, Kuriboh crashed through the ice barricade that Defender of the Ice Barrier had set up and tackled Defender, destroying the frigid fox. His task done, Kuriboh floated happily back to Yami's side of the field. Bario remained impassive, not even flinching as shards of ice flew past his face.

Bario LP: 3900

"A pointless assault," Bario muttered. "I activate my Trap card, Torrential Reborn. Since a Water Attribute monster was destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, I can now bring back my Defender of the Ice Barrier to the field and you'll take 500 points of damage."

"I won't let you do that!" Yusei interrupted as a blue aura appeared in front of Bario, the outline of his Defender of the Ice Barrier appearing within it. "I activate my Trap card, Shining Silver Force! Since you activated a Trap that deals damage, I can negate that Trap and destroy all the Spells and Traps on your field!" A silver blast of energy zoomed out of Yusei's Trap card, aimed at the blue aura in front of Bario.

"Not so fast!" Matthias exclaimed. His own Trap card flipped upright. "I play my Counter Trap, Trap Jammer! Since this is still the Battle Phase of Yugi's turn, my Trap negates your Trap and destroys it!" A light green translucent shield appeared in front of his partner, prepared to deflect the incoming blast from the Head Signer's Trap.

"Hold on!" Yami shouted. "I activate my own Counter Trap, Seven Tools of the Bandit! Now by paying a thousand Life Points, I can negate your Trap and destroy it outright!" The green shield shattered, allowing the silvery energy to obliterate the light blue aura in front of Bario, as well as Matthias' other facedown card.

Yugi LP: 3000

"Whoa! This Duel is crazy!" Crow exclaimed. "One Trap after another!"

Dani nodded. "These guys are good. Both teams are covering each other's Traps with their own."

"Makes you wonder what combos they're going to come up with next," Jack noted. "I just hope the price was worth it to keep that Defender of the Ice Barrier off the field."

"Five hundred more Life Points seems worth it to me," Crow commented. "Now they can attack with more than just monsters with fifteen hundred or less Attack points."

'But what Crow doesn't know is that those five hundred Life Points are key to taking out the King of Games,' Matthias thought to himself. 'According to my calculations, that difference is going to be the key to Yugi surviving these next two turns, if all goes as planned. Now to play my other Trap.' The cyborg caught the Pharaoh's eye. "Well played. You saved your own Trap in case I had something to block Yusei's Trap. Still, thanks to his Trap, I can now activate it from my Graveyard!"

"A Trap from the Graveyard?" Yami repeated, raising an eyebrow. "Just what are you planning?"

Matthias pulled the card out from his Graveyard, holding it up. "This. Cyber Explosion. It only activates when it gets destroyed by a Spell or Trap and allows me to Special Summon one Level five or below Cyber monster from my Deck or Graveyard and deal half its Attack points to you as damage!"

"That one Trap does all that?" Kaiba sounded impressed. "All because Yusei happened to destroy it with his own Trap too! He needs to be more careful."

"That's the beauty of Trap cards," Crow pointed out with a cheeky smile. "Sometimes there's a trap within a Trap and it springs when you least expect it." His smile faded. "Unfortunately, this time Yusei got burned."

"You'd think he'd be ready for such tricks after Dueling you so many times," Jack commented, meeting Crow's gaze.

The Tail Signer grinned and puffed out his chest a little. "That's why they called me a Trickster. You never know when I'm gonna get ya."

Matthias thumbed through his Deck and pulled out a card. "I'm sure you're all familiar with this particular monster. Come forth, Cyber Dragon!" Another metallic serpent burrowed its way out of the ground, taking its place next to its brethren with a screech. 'With that play, our odds of winning increase to ninety-five percent.'

Cyber Dragon: Atk 2100, Def 1600, LV 5

"Now Yusei, feel the blast of half my Cyber Dragon's Attack points!" the cyborg said with a snap of his fingers, the new Cyber Dragon firing a beam of silvery energy at the Head Signer. All Yusei could do was brace himself as the attack hit him full on.

Yusei LP: 2950

'This guy managed to turn one of my best Traps against me,' Yusei thought grimly to himself. 'I tried to save Yugi from taking damage and ended up only hurting him and myself. I'm going to have to rev it up big time if we're going to have a shot at winning this.'

"The only drawback with this Trap is that now you can draw one card for every five hundred points of damage dealt to you through that effect," Matthias said as the top of Yusei's Deck flickered with silver light for a second.

"At least we got his Defender off the field," Yugi commented to his counterpart as Yusei drew two cards. "Though we can't attack with King's Knight until that Cryomancer is gone."

'Indeed," Yami thought back, 'And with two Cyber Dragons staring us down, we're going to have to set up our defenses quickly.' He glanced at his tag partner. 'It's up to Yusei to take that monster down, so we can attack again with our higher level monsters.'

"Are you done, Yugi?" Matthias asked. "We all know King's Knight can't attack thanks to Bario's monster, so it appears your turn is at an end."

Yami glared at the cyborg, trying to read his expression. It suggested mild amusement, but the Pharaoh could sense there was something underneath that smug exterior. "First I'll place these two cards facedown, then I'll end my turn."

All eyes turned to Bario as he drew a card. "My turn," he said after a long, pregnant pause. His stern face betrayed no emotion at what card he'd just drawn. "I activate my Spell card, Magic Triangle of the Ice Barrier!" A dangerously glowing icy blue triangle within a summoning circle appeared on the ground in front of the Master's guardian. "Now by revealing three Ice Barrier monsters in my hand, I'm allowed to first destroy one of your monsters and then Special Summon an Ice Barrier monster from my hand!"

"I can't allow you to do that!" Yami interrupted as Bario plucked out three cards from his hand. "I activate my Counter Trap, Magic Jammer! By discarding one card, I can negate and destroy your Magic card!" Dark purple smoke rose up from the Trap card as the Pharaoh placed a card in the Graveyard. 'Now I just need him to Summon a monster and my strategy will be complete.'

"Nice move, Yugi!" Crow cheered, "Way to stop that powerful card in its tracks!"

"As usual, the King of Games is on top of things," Jack noted. "But how long can he keep this up?"

"He'll keep it up for as long as he needs to," Kaiba said, "He's not allowed to lose to anyone but me." He met Jack's gaze, daring him to say otherwise.

The former Turbo King snorted. "Just like Yusei isn't allowed to lose to anyone before I beat him." He grinned. "Maybe we aren't that different after all."

Bario's next move got the spectator's attention. "If you won't let me use my magic cards, then I shall Summon forth a monster that will begin your complete and utter shutdown in this Duel. I call forth the Shock Troops of the Ice Barrier!" A small blizzard whirled up in front of Bario, the outline of men slowly becoming visible until the snowstorm died as quickly as it appeared, revealing a squad of men dressed in blue armor and wielding several weapons from the Shogunate era.

Shock Troops of the Ice Barrier: Atk 1500, Def 800, LV 3

Yami went for his Trap, then hesitated. He recalled Bario noting that Cryomancer of the Ice Barrier was a Tuner Monster, so maybe he'd be better off letting Bario Synchro Summon, then activate his Trap. The Pharaoh met Bario's cold blue eyes. Time to take the risk. Hopefully this monster didn't prevent Traps from activating. "So what does this Monster do? Prevent Synchro Monsters from attacking?"

"Don't be naïve," Bario replied. "While I may be lifting the restriction on you placed by my first two monsters, this next monster will more than make up for it. I Tune Level two Cryomancer of the Ice Barrier with my Level two Prior of the Ice Barrier and my Level Three Shock Troops of the Ice Barrier."

The Pharaoh kept his face straight as Prior and the Shock Troops leaped into the air. No need to reveal the trump card just yet. Cryomancer of the Ice Barrier turned into two blue stars, Prior and the Shock Troops leaping into the middle and dissolving into five more stars as Bario began his Summon chant. "The freezing phoenix of the north will call upon its scarlet flames to melt the ice! Encrusted ruby of the aurora, arise!" With a brilliant flash of blue light, a blizzard formed once more on the field. Bario pulled out the Synchro Monster from his Extra Deck. "Synchro Summon! Come out, Gungnir, Dragon of the Ice Barrier!" A quadrupedal winged dragon made of ice appeared in front of Bario, a red glow from its core giving Gungnir a beautiful aura about it as its wings flared and dispelled the blizzard

Gungnir, Dragon of the Ice Barrier: Atk 2500, Def 1700, LV 7

"And with this Dragon's special ability," Bario continued, "I can simply discard two cards and destroy two cards on your field."

The Pharaoh smirked. "Too bad you'll never get the chance to use it. I activate a Trap! Dark Renewal!" An ornate coffin appeared in front of Yami, a dark energy crackling about it. "Since you Summoned a monster, I can now sacrifice it and a monster from my side of the field and bring back one Spellcaster from my Graveyard!"

"You don't have a Spellcaster in your Graveyard," Matthias said, narrowing his eyes. His cybernetic eye flickered a few times and his eyes widened. "Unless…"

Yami nodded. "That's right, I sent him there when I activated my Magic Jammer. Now, I sacrifice my Kuriboh and your Gungnir! Begone, now!" The coffin sent out twin beams of dark lightning, pulling in Kuriboh and Gungnir, the latter roaring and flailing in vain.

Kaiba grinned. "Yugi's played him like the sucker he is. He had two chances to use that Trap, and he baited Bario into bringing out his Synchro Monster. Now that buffoon has no Monsters left on the field and no more Summons this turn."

The coffin finished absorbing the two monsters, rumbling and releasing dark smoke. Yami pulled his favorite card out of the Graveyard and played it on his Duel Disk. "And thanks to the dual sacrifice, I can now bring out my most ardent ally, the Dark Magician!" With a small burst of dark energy, the purple-clad ace of Yugi's Deck appeared out of the smoke, green staff at the ready.

Yusei grinned. 'At least Yugi's doing more than his fair share of the work right now. I wish I could say the same.' He looked at his Duel Disk. 'Every time I've tried to step up and do my part, it gets shut down one way or another by these two. I can't afford to lose, not when Akiza's mind is still at stake.'

Dark Magician: Atk 2500, Def 2100, LV 7

"This is just like something out of a Duel Monsters documentary," Crow said, unable to contain the glee in his voice. "I mean, we're watching the King of Games here bring out his ace monster!" He glanced over at Dani, who had giggled at his statement. "What?"

"I got to face that Dark Magician, too!" she told him. "And trust me when I say it's a whole new Duel when you have to face that monster. These guys are in for it now!"

Bario remained unfazed, grabbing one of the four remaining cards in his hand. "Impressive Yugi. But not enough, I'm afraid. I activate Moray of Greed, so by shuffling two Water Attribute monsters from my hand into my Deck, I'm allowed to draw three cards from my Deck."

"So he's basically going for a hand reset," Kaiba noted, sounding mildly intrigued. "Interesting. Let's see what he draws."

Bario pulled the three cards from his Deck and observed them silently, emotionless face not betraying any sign of elation or disappointment. He closed his eyes and sighed. "It would appear that your move has backfired Yugi."

"I don't like the sound of that," Crow gulped.

"I activate my Spell card, Synchro Spirits of the Ice Barrier," Bario announced. "By banishing an Ice Barrier Synchro monster from my Graveyard, I can then re-Summon all the Ice Barrier monsters used to Synchro Summon that card. I revive Prior of the Ice Barrier, the Shock Troops of the Ice Barrier, and my Cryomancer of the Ice Barrier in Defense mode!" The three named monsters appeared in a flurry of snow in front of Bario, all crouched in defensive positions.

"And as you might recall, Cryomancer has a special ability, preventing all Level four or higher monsters from attacking so long as I have another Ice Barrier monster on the field!" Bario glared at the Pharaoh. "So your Dark Magician will not do any good for you."

"That remains to be seen," Yami countered. "I've been told time and time again that my Deck is too old to keep up with the Decks of this era. That Kaiba and I would be overwhelmed with all the speed. And yet, all we've done since your Movement revealed itself to us is defeat you."

Matthias raised an eyebrow. "Try telling that to Miss Izinski over there," he said, amusement plain in his tone.

"You leave Akiza out of this!" Yusei snapped, shaken out of his reverie. "She wouldn't be like that if it weren't for you bastards."

"Perhaps not," Matthias admitted, "But as the Master would say, such is life. Miss Izinski got in our way and paid the price for her lack of Dueling skills."

"Akiza is a better Duelist than you'll ever be!" Yusei practically yelled, enraged at the insult to his friend. "She's overcome harder trials than you have, you metal freak!"

"Tut tut, temper," Matthias said, waving a finger. "And here I had you figured as much more calm and composed than this. It's rather disappointing, after reviewing your Duel against Goodwin and having such high expectations."

"Oh believe me, you haven't seen anything from me yet," Yusei growled. He jabbed a finger at Bario. "Just have your frozen buddy over there end your turn and you'll see what I mean."

"Perhaps you'll finally bring out that pathetic Stardust Dragon," the cyborg suggested. "It'd certainly make this Duel more interesting."

Yusei hesitated. 'Does…he want me to bring out Stardust? Mika used my Stardust's special ability against me in our Turbo Duel, and given the way these guys have been turning my effects against me, there's no doubt that they have a strategy in place that'll use my Stardust Dragon as bait.'

Bario broke the silence. "I'll end my turn with a card facedown."

"My turn then," the Head Signer began, "I draw!"

"All right Yusei, show him what you're made of! Take this bastard down!" Crow cheered.

"Need I remind you that thanks to my partner's monsters, you can't attack with Level four or higher monsters?" Matthias said knowingly. His mildly amused look irritated Yusei.

"I'm well aware," the Head Signer said, studying the four cards in his hand. 'If they're expecting my Stardust Dragon, then I can't bring it out just yet. But I think there is a way I can get around that Level restriction that Cryomancer put on us.'

"This isn't good. He's hesitating," Jack observed, frowning. Raising his voice, he addressed his longtime friend. "You can't afford to hesitate, Yusei! They're trying to get into your head. So you're going to have to forget about the Master, forget about Akiza, and focus on winning this Duel! That's the only way you're going to win this!"

"I'm not going to forget about Akiza," Yusei snapped, glancing back at Jack.

Jack shook his head in exasperation. "I'm not saying to completely forget about her. But you're letting her distract you in a pivotal moment! You need to get your head in the game!"

The Head Signer blinked, realizing the sincerity of Jack's words. But how was he supposed to just ignore the fact that Akiza was currently fighting for her sanity in her car just thirty some-odd yards away? Yusei took a deep breath, doing his best to get a hold of his nerves. His Mark pulsed, giving him information about the other Signers.

The concern from Jack. He wanted this crisis resolved as much as Yusei did.

The worry from Crow, tinged with underlying eagerness watching this Duel.

Fear from Luna. She wasn't entirely sure what was going on, but she knew her friend, almost a big brother to her, was in danger and that scared her.

And then there was Akiza. He could sense her despair, but at the same time he could sense more from the Foot Signer. There was a feeling of hope. Yusei gasped. She was using him, HIM, as a beacon of hope as she fought the shackles in her mind imposed by the Master's power. All the more reason why he couldn't afford to fail. He grabbed two cards from his hand, sending the first one to his Graveyard. "In order to call out this sharp-shooting monster, I need to discard one monster from my hand to the Graveyard, so good-bye Level Eater and hello Quickdraw Synchron!" The gun-toting robot cowboy appeared in front of Yusei, one pistol spinning in its nimble hands.

Quickdraw Synchron: Atk 700, Def 1400, LV 5

"Next I activate my Level Eater's ability from my Graveyard," Yusei continued, grabbing the card back from the Graveyard. "By reducing the Level of one of my Level five or above monsters by 1, I can bring back my Level Eater from the Graveyard! So Junk Gardna, power down by a Level and bring back my Level Eater!" The little ladybug-like monster flew through Yusei's wall monster and landed next to Quickdraw Synchron.

Level Eater: Atk 600, Def 0, LV 1

Junk Gardna: LV 5

"Now Level Eater, attack that Cryomancer of the Ice Barrier!" Yusei shouted. The bug began spinning towards Bario's monster at a high speed.

"I activate my Trap, Battle Change!" Bario announced. "During a Battle Phase, I can choose one of my monsters and switch its battle position. Cryomancer, change to Attack position!" The ice wizard stood upright, preparing to intercept the incoming bug with a swirling sphere of icy energy.

Cryomancer of the Ice Barrier: Atk 1300

Yusei was quick to respond. "I don't think so! I activate my Junk Gardna's ability and switch your monster from attacking to defending!" With a clang of his shield, Junk Gardna emitted a wave that forced the Cryomancer back down onto a knee, allowing Level Eater to crash into the monster and destroy him. "Now our higher Level monsters can attack again!"

"It matters not whether or not you can attack," Matthias said calmly. "It's whether or not you could actually hurt us."

"Oh I intend to," the Head Signer growled. "I activate my Trap card, Urgent Tuning! Now I can Synchro Summon during the Battle Phase! Level five Quickdraw Synchron, Tune with Level one Level Eater!" Yusei's Tuner leapt into the air, taking aim at a ring of Tuners before shooting through the Turbo Synchron image and turning into five green rings, Level Eater flying into the rings and turning into one more star. "Gathering stars weave a greater force! Become the path its light shines upon!" Yusei played the Synchro monster on his Duel Disk as the rings erupted into a brilliant red light. "Synchro Summon! Rev your engines Turbo Warrior!" A large red car-themed warrior emerged from the light, engines roaring as it posed, ready for battle.

Turbo Warrior: Atk 2500, Def 1500, LV 6

"All right! Yusei's really bringing out the big guns now!" Crow cheered. "Take it to them pal!"

"With pleasure." Yusei gestured at Matthias. "Let's see how well your Cyber Phoenix handles my Turbo Warrior! Go Turbo Slash!" Yusei's Synchro Monster charged forward, a dangerous bright red glow surrounding its large claws. To the surprise of many, the cyborg did nothing except brace himself for the shockwave as Turbo Warrior impaled the metal bird on Matthias' field, causing the Cyber Phoenix to explode.

Matthias LP: 2700

"Cyber Phoenix's effect activates!" Matthias announced. "When it's destroyed by battle I'm allowed to draw one card from my Deck."

"I'll place one card facedown and end my turn," Yusei finished, glaring at Matthias as he drew a card. He expected the cyborg to do something to save that Cyber Phoenix, but since Matthias did nothing to block his attack, it made the Head Signer wary.

'Just what are you planning?'

The Master's second-in-command placed three fingers on the top of his Deck. "An impressive play, Fudo. You actually managed to make contact. Nevertheless, it's my turn. I draw!" He looked at his new card and the cyborg's eyes narrowed. 'Power Bond! An interesting turn of events. I best hold on to this for now, in case Yugi pulls out one of his Egyptian god cards. For now, let's see how they deal with cards from the future.'

"Anyone else getting a bad feeling in their gut?" Crow asked, glancing around at his fellow spectators. "Cuz this guy is giving out a bad vibe here."

Jack shook his head. "No Crow, you're not alone. Something tells me that he's ready to make his move."

"I Summon Cyber Dragon Drei!" Matthias announced. Another metallic serpent appeared, though this one had a large spike on its tail and a different shaped head compared to the Cyber Dragon it was apparently named after.

Cyber Dragon Drei: Atk 1800, Def 800, LV 4

"Cyber Dragon Drei's ability activates!" the cyborg continued. "Since he was successfully Normal Summoned, he and every other Cyber Dragon monster on the field automatically become Level five!" A brief silver glow appeared around Drei, signifying the growth in Level.

Cyber Dragon Drei LV: 5

"So he made all his Cyber Dragons have the same level," Dani began thoughtfully. "You don't think he's going for that XYZ summon, is he?"

Matthias' glare made her flinch. "That's exactly it. I Overlay both my Level five Cyber Dragon and Cyber Dragon Drei!" Both serpentine machines turned into balls of golden light, flying up into the air as a miniature galaxy appeared in front of Matthias. With an abrupt turn, both lights dropped neatly into the center of the galaxy. "Light from the deepest reaches of the void, calls to the stars and brings out the foe none can avoid! Witness the creation from the stars made by Jehovah!" The galaxy erupted into a brilliant geyser of silver and white energy. "XYZ Summon! Appear Cyber Dragon Nova!" Another metal serpentine monster appeared, but this one with black highlights along its metallic body and wings flaring out from its upper body. Two yellow orbs began to orbit the new monster.

Cyber Dragon Nova: Atk 2100, Def 1600, Rank 5

Matthias continued, relentless. "I activate Cyber Nova Dragon's ability! Once per turn I can detach an Overlay Unit from my monster and revive a Cyber Dragon from my Graveyard!"

Jack narrowed his eyes as one of the spheres orbiting the XYZ monster detached itself from its orbit and began growing, taking the form of yet another Cyber Dragon. "Then why go through all the trouble of bringing out this XYZ monster? All he's done is trade out a Level four monster for a Level five monster."

"Correction!" Matthias interrupted. "XYZ monsters don't have Levels, they have Ranks! So your Turbo Warrior won't be able to affect this next monster!"

"That doesn't sound good," Dani gulped. A small flicker out of the corner of her eye caught her attention. She glanced to her right, wondering just what it was. Her sharp blue eyes darted from side to side, a bad feeling running up her spine. Her attention was drawn back to the Duel as Matthias began his next move.

"I activate my Spell card, Rank-Up Magic Cyber Force!" the cyborg announced. A dangerous silver glow appeared around his XYZ monster. "First, this Spell card becomes an Overlay Unit for Cyber Nova Dragon!" On cue, the image of his Spell card turned into a green ball of light and began to orbit the Cyber Nova Dragon.

Cyber Dragon Nova Overlay Units: 2

"Next, I'm allowed to Rank-Up one XYZ monster into a new monster!" Matthias looked triumphant as a portal appeared on the ground, Cyber Nova Dragon folding up into a compact form and diving into the portal. "Novas coalescing into a single aspect, realize the only form is this single prospect. Witness as the far lightning strikes from eternity!" Within the portal, everyone could make out the form of the Cyber Nova Dragon transforming, evolving, becoming more powerful. "Rank-Up! XYZ Change! Appear Cyber Nova Infinity!" With a burst of energy, the new monster burst out of the portal, transforming back into its battle form. It was similar to its previous form, maintaining the serpentine form and wings, but larger, more black than silver decorating its form and several golden spikes now lining the Cyber XYZ monster. Three orbs of silver light orbited the new monster.

Cyber Dragon Infinity: Atk 2100, Def 1600, Rank 6, OLU 3

"What in the world?!" Yami exclaimed, beholding the new monster in surprise. "First you tell us that this monster doesn't have a Level, now you mean to tell us that that one Magic card allowed your Monster to become an entirely new monster?!"

Matthias shook his head. "That's not all. Since I used Rank-Up Magic Cyber Force to XYZ Summon Cyber Dragon Infinity, it now gains five hundred Attack points since Cyber Dragon Nova is one of its Overlay Units! Not only that, but Cyber Dragon Infinity gains two hundred Attack points for every Overlay unit, so there's another six hundred points right there!"

Cyber Dragon Infinity Atk: 3200

"Now then, Cyber Dragon Infinity, activate your special ability!" the cyborg shouted. "Cyber Overlay Absorption!" The XYZ Monster roared, tendrils of energy extending out towards Yusei's Turbo Warrior.

"What's going on?!" Yusei asked. He had a bad feeling in his gut.

"Cyber Dragon Infinity can take a monster that's in Attack position on your side of the field and turn it into an Overlay Unit!" the cyborg explained. "So I'll be taking that Turbo Warrior of yours out of the equation." 'And take our probability of winning up another couple percentage points.' The energy tendrils grabbed onto Turbo Warrior and Yusei could do nothing but watch his Synchro monster get turned into another orb, this one a light red.

Cyber Dragon Infinity: Atk 3400, OLU 4

"That's not good," Kaiba said grimly. "If he can take away their monsters while Bario continues to build up a Defense, then this Duel isn't going to last much longer."

"Come on Yusei, you can turn this around!" Crow cheered.

"At least he's got that Junk Gardna to defend himself," Dani pointed out. "That thing's a great wall."

"Battle!" Matthias continued. "Cyber Dragon Infinity, attack the Dark Magician! Infinity Evolution Burst!" Silver and golden light flowed into the XYZ monster's mouth.

"I activate my Junk Gardna's ability!" the Head Signer began. "Once per turn I can take a monster and switch it to Defense mode!" His Synchro monster clanged its shields together.

"I expected that from you," Matthias said with a grin. "Now Cyber Dragon Infinity's other ability activates! By removing an Overlay Unit, I can negate and destroy any effect that activates once per turn! Go Strident Shutdown!" With a roar, Cyber Dragon Infinity flared its wings, a black shockwave coming off them. The shockwaves flew through Junk Gardna, shattering the Synchro monster.

"No way!" Yusei gasped, stunned by this turn of events. His best defense was gone, just like that. These guys were prepared for his every move. At this rate, he was going to need Stardust Dragon just to survive. This was going to hurt.

Cyber Dragon Infinity: Atk 3200, OLU 3

"Now he's wide open, and he's only got the one facedown," Jack grimaced. "Not good."

Matthias' cybernetic eye flickered a few times. "Now then, Cyber Dragon Infinity, continue your attack on the Pharaoh's Dark Magician!" Cyber Dragon Infinity screeched and fired a swirling beam of silver, gold, and black energy that incinerated Yami's favorite monster in an instant. The Pharaoh growled as excess energy splashed over him, signifying the damage.

Yugi LP: 2300

"Now then, since you kindly left yourself wide open Fudo, let's be rid of you once and for all!" Matthias was triumphant as he gave the order. "Cyber Dragon one, attack Yusei directly! Evolution Burst!"

"Oh boy," was all Yusei had time to grit out before a silvery blast of energy from one of the Cyber Dragon's engulfed him, getting a yelp of pain from the Head Signer.

Yusei LP: 850

"Do something!" Jack shouted.

Kaiba rolled his eyes. "Well that was a pathetic showing."

"Cyber Dragon two, finish this Signer off!" The second Cyber Dragon began to inhale, gathering energy within its mouth. "Evolution Burst!"

Chaos Movement HQ, the Master's Lair

The Master snorted as he watched the Duel unfold. "Ohh dear Matthias, his Stardust Dragon isn't out, you're not going to kill him just yet. But, soon enough, you'll have your chance. Hehehehehehehehe!" The climax was coming, and soon the world would be his to mold!

Chaos Movement Entrance

"You're finished!" Matthias declared. Cyber Dragon fired its blast directly at the Head Signer.

Yusei met his gaze evenly. "Not yet I'm not."

"What?!"

"You activated my Trap, Stardust Respark!" the Head Signer yelled, the Trap flipping up just in time to intercept Cyber Dragon's attack. "Now since you attacked me directly with a monster that has more Attack points than my Life Points, I'm allowed to negate that attack and Special Summon Stardust Dragon directly to the field!"

"Nice move!" Yami said as a pillar of light appeared in front of Yusei.

"Clustering wishes will become a new shining star! Become the path its light shines upon!" Yusei chanted. He smiled as his favorite dragon emerged from the light. "Come on out, Stardust Dragon!" The Head Signer's beloved ace let out a roar as it took to the field, ready to do battle.

Stardust Dragon: Atk 2500, Def 2000, LV 8

"Impressive," Matthias admitted. "Very impressive. I end my turn." Inwardly, he was rather upset with himself. 'I overlooked that facedown. Now our chances of victory have decreased to eighty-four percent because of that infernal dragon. Yet the Master wanted me to get it out on the field. Perhaps that dragon is the key to Fudo's downfall after all.''

"It's my move now!" Yami declared. He drew a card, hoping beyond hope that it was what he needed. "I draw!" The Pharaoh looked at his card. "I activate Graceful Charity! Now I can draw three new cards, but only if I discard two."

"Looks like this is Yugi's last shot," Crow gulped. "Let's hope he gets the card he needs."

"He'll pull through," Dani said, more to reassure herself than anyone else. "He's the King of Games, of course he's going to pull through."

The Pharaoh looked at the three cards he'd drawn and smiled. "I discard my Queen's Knight and my Beast of Gilfer to the Graveyard! Now my Beast of Gilfer's effect activates! I can equip it to any card I choose, and I'll choose that Cyber Dragon Infinity!" The dark shadow of the archfiend appeared on the ground behind the machine XYZ monster, ready to reach into its very being.

The cyborg ran through some quick calculations and made his move. "Not acceptable. I use Cyber Dragon Infinity's ability to negate your weakening effect!" Another orb detached itself from Cyber Dragon Infinity and destroyed the shadow of the Beast of Gilfer.

Cyber Dragon Infinity: Atk 3000, OLU 2

"I expected you would do that," Yami said with a grin. "I activate Card of Sanctity! Now we all must draw until we each hold six cards!" A ball of rainbow light emerged from the card Yami played, splitting into four and hitting the Decks of each Duelist.

Crow let out a low whistle. "I'd say he got his card."

"And then some," Jack added.

"Nice draw, Yugi," Yusei said as he drew his new hand.

"Next I play my Pot of Greed, allowing me to draw two more cards!" the Pharaoh continued, grabbing two cards from the top of his Deck. The second card sent a jolt of electricity down his arm, bringing a grin to his face.

'Just what we needed to turn this Duel around!' Yugi commented gleefully to his ancient Egyptian counterpart.

"I activate Silent Doom to bring back my Queen's Knight to the field in Defense mode!" Yami declared. A blonde woman in red and purple armor appeared next to King's Knight, sword and shield held defensively.

Queen's Knight: Atk 1500, Def 1600, LV 4

Yami plucked another card out of his Deck. "When I have both King's and Queen's Knight on the field, I can automatically Summon my Jack's Knight to the field from my Deck!" A taller knight in blue armor appeared, completing the trio of knights on the Pharaoh's field.

Jack's Knight: Atk 1900, Def 1000, LV 5

"He managed to get three monsters and still has his Normal Summon for the turn," Kaiba said, a smug smile on his face. "Once again he's managed to defy the odds."

Jack glanced over at him. "Are you serious?"

"You all got to see Obelisk the Tormentor earlier," Kaiba said. "Now prepare yourself for another Egyptian god card."

"I sacrifice all three of my knights to bring forth my ultimate creature!" Yami shouted. The Knights transformed into orbs of light, each one their respective armor color of red, blue, and yellow. The gray skies turned black above the arena, rumbling with power as the Pharaoh's sacrifices rose into the sky. Everyone could feel the intensity of the Duel increase. Nothing truly tangible, merely a pressure in the ears and a vague feeling of impending doom. "Bringer of thunder and skies that roar, dragon god it is time to soar. Show force of unmatched height, instill hope with thine might!"

"Oh my God," Dani breathed as the black underbelly of the Egyptian god card began to show itself, the roar of the Sky Dragon echoing through the thunder. She'd witnessed the dragon yesterday, back when the minions were all they had to worry about. It felt like it'd been ages since Yugi and Kaiba had fallen from the sky, rather than two days. She was torn, because she wanted to label the Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon as the most powerful Dragon of all time, but Slifer obviously was a bit of a roadblock to that title. After all, what was a mere dragon to a god?

Leo and Luna were silent as they watched the Egyptian god card descend from the heavens. Both were standing up in Akiza's car, watching the Duel go on with their stomachs twisting in nerves. This Duel was one of the most important they had ever watched, and even though they didn't have the best view of it, with the help of the vid screen on the dashboard they were able to follow along in the Duel well enough.

"This is awesome," Leo said simply. He wanted to jump in excitement, but a quick glance back at the unconscious Foot Signer reminded him that he had a job to do. "I just wish Big Sis Aki could see this."

Luna sighed. "You and me both Leo." She looked at the Duel in the distance, feeling her Mark of the Crimson Dragon pulse ever so slightly. "You and me both."

"I Summon the Egyptian god card!" the Pharaoh shouted, throwing the card onto his Duel Disk. Lightning crackled around the Duel Disk as it took in the energy of the god card. "Slifer the Sky Dragon!" The roar sent a shiver down the spines of everyone, even the mechanically repaired spine of Matthias. The red wings of Slifer the Sky Dragon flared out and scattered some of the dark clouds, revealing the Egyptian god card in all of its glory. Slifer slowly glided down, massive body taking up most of the space behind Yami. Lightning struck the ground in several places around the Duel as the Sky Dragon roared, shaking the very ground with its power.

Slifer the Sky Dragon: Atk 5000, Def 5000, LV 10

"That's the hugest Duel monster I've ever seen!" Crow said, looking up at the Sky Dragon in awe. "Bigger than that Tormentor!" He glanced over at Dani, who was looking up at Slifer in awe. "This is pretty damn cool."

The female Blue-Eyes Duelist didn't take her eyes away from the dragon god card, though that didn't stop her from punching Crow affectionately on the shoulder. "You've got a way of understating things, Crow." The Blackwing Duelist chuckled at that.

"This just turned the entire Duel around!" Jack added. He couldn't keep the smile off his face, seeing Duel Monsters history appearing like this. If there was one good thing that had come from this Chaos Movement assault, it was getting to see the King of Games in action. "Yugi's been on absolute fire this Duel."

"As you all know, Slifer gains one thousand Attack points for every card in my hand," Yami explained, holding up his hand. "And as you can see, my five cards mean Silfer has five thousand Attack points, more than enough to take down any Monster you have!"

"You seem rather confident in the gods," Matthias said sagely. "What will you do when they don't return your faith?" The cyborg knew that it was going to take more than mild denigration to defeat the Egyptian god, as his sensors could detect the power coming from the card itself. He'd had a few minutes alone with the Winged Dragon of Ra, but detecting energy from a card was one thing; witnessing it in action and experiencing its power was another realm entirely. Perhaps once they'd defeated these two, the Master would allow him to utilize one of the Egyptian gods himself.

"My faith has never let me down before," Yami countered. "And I doubt it will start with you! Now my Sky Dragon, show him true power and attack Cyber Dragon Infinity!" The Sky Dragon roared and began to gather a brilliant golden energy in its first mouth. "Thunder Force Attack!" With a shockwave that buffeted everyone, Slifer fired the blast of energy. Cyber Dragon Infinity tried to create a shield, but the power of the god card was simply too much and the shield shattered, the body of the XYZ Cyber Dragon disintegrating right behind it. The head of Cyber Dragon Infinity landed in the smoking crater left behind by the Egyptian god's attack with a thud telling of its defeat and slowly faded from sight.

Matthias was left running damage diagnostics from the aftermath of the attack when the backlash of the Thunder Force attack splashed over him and tore at his suit, leaving him smoking and hurt. 'I better make sure I can use Power Bond next turn. Forget Fudo for now, we must be rid of that Egyptian god card. Since it's powerful enough to ignore Bario's Attack Seal strategy, then Slifer the Sky Dragon must be exterminated.'

Matthias LP: 700

"I place two cards facedown and end my turn," Yami finished. "This may cost Slifer two thousand of his Attack points, but you aren't going to bring out a monster that can withstand the divine power of my Sky Dragon."

Slifer the Sky Dragon Atk/Def: 3000

"My turn," Bario began, speaking for the first time in a while. The sight of the god card staring down at them had startled even him. Somehow, despite Matthias' simulations, Yugi was the one taking the lead in this Duel. He had to put a stop to that. He drew a card silently, aware of everyone watching him. That Card of Sanctity had definitely helped him out. "I activate my Spell, Ice Barrier Defense!" The Master's guardian grabbed three cards from his hand and showed them, revealing them to be Ice Barrier monsters. "By revealing three Ice Barrier monsters, I can now prevent my opponents from using any Spell, Trap, or Monster effect against Ice Barrier monsters until the End Phase of this turn!"

"Which means he's going to be able to build a better defense this turn against Yugi's Egyptian god card," Kaiba said, narrowing his eyes. "This should be interesting."

"I activate the Field Spell A Legendary Ocean!" Bario continued. Water began to ooze up from the ground, slowly filling the field. It rose up to everyone's waists within the ring of silver and blue fire before it steadied and stilled.

"This isn't so bad," Crow joked as he mock waded through the water over to Jack. Then he glanced back and his grey eyes grew wide. "Or maybe not." A holographic tidal wave came from outside the ring and crashed over the field. The Blackwing Signer blinked as they appeared to be underwater, ancient structures having risen up to give the field a feel of underwater wonder.

Yami blinked in surprise as he found he recognized that style of architecture, having seen it only once in the battle against the Great Leviathan. "It looks like Atlantis!"

"That's an adequate comparison," Bario admitted. "And thanks to this Field Spell, all Water monsters lose one Level and gain two hundred Attack and Defense points!"

"Now I'll sacrifice my Shock Troops of the Ice Barrier and bring out General Gantala of the Ice Barrier!" the cold samurai continued. The group of soldiers disappeared in a flash of snow, the small blizzard coalescing into a shirtless, bald man wielding an icy blue gauntlet.

General Gantala of the Ice Barrier: Atk 2700, Def 2000, LV 7

"And thanks to A Legendary Ocean, I only needed one tribute to bring out General Gantala because his Level was reduced by one in my hand!" Bario explained, seeing Kaiba's raised eyebrow.

General Gantala of the Ice Barrier: Atk 2900, Def 2200, LV 6

"That's a powerful monster indeed, and it isn't going to be struck by Slifer's second mouth," Kaiba noted grimly. "Well then, it's probably a good thing they have those facedowns."

"Battle," Bario declared. "General Gantala, attack that Stardust Dragon! Icicle Crash attack!" The General darted forward, icy energy gathering around his blue fists.

"I don't think so!" Yusei countered. "I activate Scrap-Iron Scarecrow! This will negate your attack and then I can flip it facedown on the field again!" The ragged looking metal scarecrow popped up in front of Stardust Dragon, absorbing the blow from Gantala and knocking the Ice Barrier General back to Bario's side of the field.

Bario scowled. Of course it wasn't going to be that easy. "I place two cards facedown and move to my End Phase. While Ice Barrier Defense is still active, I activate the ability of General Gantala of the Ice Barrier. Now I can revive an Ice Barrier monster from my Graveyard! Defender of the Ice Barrier, resurrect!" The fox with ice growing along its spine appeared once more, swimming next to General Gantala, who gave the fox an affectionate rub on the head before the Defender took up a defensive position.

Defender of the Ice Barrier: Atk 200, Def 1600, LV 3

"And thanks to A Legendary Ocean, his power increases," Bario pointed out. "My turn comes to an end."

"That stupid fox, every single time!" Crow growled. "Now they're going to have trouble attacking again."

Dani was a little weirded out. Her body wanted to hold her breath, since her eyes were telling her that they were underwater. She had little experience against actual Water Decks like this, and while she enjoyed the occasional swim, the visual sensation of being miles underwater without actually being there was unsettling. "Let's hope Yugi and Yusei get rid of that Field Spell soon. This place is giving me the creeps."

"Don't tell me you're afraid of water," Crow asked, mildly concerned.

"Nothing like that," Dani replied hotly. "It just feels like I should be wearing some scuba gear or something."

"I can't blame you," Crow laughed, glancing around at their surroundings. "It's amazing how good holographic technology is sometimes."

"It's my turn now!" Yusei began, drawing a card. He pulled out his Deck and began to search through it. "Two turns have passed since I activated Reincarnation of Hope's effect, so now I can add a monster from my Deck to my hand! A monster like my Turret Warrior!"

"It won't save you," Matthias warned. "Not against what I hold in my hand."

"We'll see about that," Yusei said simply.

"Before you get any bright ideas," Bario interrupted. "I activate the Continuous Trap, Eisbahn! Now any non-Water Attribute monster must switch into Defense mode when it's Summoned to the field!"

Yusei grinned. "Thanks for the target. I now use Card Breaker's special ability! By destroying a card in the Spell and Trap card zone, I can Special Summon it straight to the field in Attack position! Card Breaker, do your thing and take out that Eisbahn Trap!" The face-up card in front of Bario began to bend and eventually shattered under a massive green fist on a staff, wielded by a man in an ancient Incan outfit. Card Breaker then darted to Yusei's side, holding up his fist-staff in a battle stance.

"Next I Summon Massive Warrior to the field in Attack mode!" A four-legged stone golem wielding a massive boulder on its back appeared on the field, ready for action.

Massive Warrior: Atk 600, Def 1200, LV 2

"This is what I was expecting turn one from Yusei," Jack commented. "Why would he bring it out now?"

"Since I successfully Normal Summoned a monster this turn, I can Special Summon Turbo Booster!" the Head Signer continued. A yellow robot with jet engines acting as arms appeared next to Massive Warrior, floating in the air with a seemingly boyish enthusiasm.

Turbo Booster: Atk 0, Def 0, LV 1

Jack smirked. "That's why."

Yusei grabbed the next card in his hand and played it on his Duel Disk. "Next I activate Steam Synchron's ability from my hand! Since I Special Summoned a monster, I can bring out Steam Synchron!" A compact Synchron resembling a steam engine appeared, settling down on the other side of Massive Warrior.

Steam Synchron: Atk 600, Def 800, LV 3

"Then I activate the Synchron Swap Spell card from my hand." With the activation of the Spell, Yusei's Synchron disappeared with a puff of smoke. "I can sacrifice Steam Synchron for another Synchron monster in my Graveyard with the same original Level as the original Level of the Synchron monster I sacrificed. I send Steam Synchron to the Graveyard to bring back my Junk Synchron!" The orange mechanic Tuner appeared from the smoke, engines on his back rumbling gently.

Junk Synchron: Atk 1300, Def 500, LV 3

"It matters not, for you cannot attack without losing what few meager Life Points you have left to call your own," Bario said. "Defender of the Ice Barrier will render your Synchro Summon useless!"

Yusei smiled. He had him. "Who said anything about Synchro Summoning? Massive Warrior! Attack that Defender of the Ice Barrier now!" The blue rocky warrior charged, boulder first. To the surprise of many, Turbo Booster followed behind Massive Warrior, jets revving.

"What's your monster doing?" Bario asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Since Massive Warrior is attacking your monster and Defender of the Ice Barrier would normally survive that battle, I can release Turbo Booster and destroy your monster!" Turbo Booster let his jet arms fly and disappeared, Massive Warrior getting a boost from the rockets and smashing through the wall of ice the Defender of the Ice Barrier created, smacking into the fox and destroying it. Massive Warrior came crashing down in front of Yusei, but managed to climb back to its feet.

Matthias tilted his head. "And Massive Warrior apparently has a special ability that negates Battle Damage and prevents it from being destroyed in battle."

Yusei nodded. "Now Junk Synchron, take out that Cryomancer of the Ice Barrier! Junk Fist!" The little orange Tuner monster ran forward, punching the crouching Cryomancer of the Ice Barrier, destroying it without any fight.

"All right, it's about time Yusei got going," Jack said. "Now they're free to attack with high level monsters again!"

"Go Stardust Dragon! Attack that Prior of the Ice Barrier now! Go Shooting Sonic!" Yusei's face was stone as Stardust Dragon blew away the other Ice Barrier card on Bario's field, leaving only General Gantala to defend the Frigid Guardian.

"So, Yusei, how long do you think you can keep it up?" Matthias asked. "Or is it you're scared to face my Cyber Dragons? Why else would you attack Bario and not me with your Stardust?"

"Because once the man you're using as a shield is down, you'll be that much easier to wipe out," the Head Signer said. "I place three cards facedown, then Tune Level three Junk Synchron with Level two Massive Warrior and Power Breaker!"

"Let's see which Synchro Yusei busts out next!" Crow said excitedly.

"Clustering roar turns into an echoing arrow which tears across the sky! Become the path it's light shines upon!" Yusei chanted as his monsters went through the Synchro Summon. The four stars from the two non-Tuners aligned in the three rings from Junk Synchron and a brilliant pillar of light appeared in the rings. "Synchro Summon! Show yourself, Junk Archer!" The orange mechanical archer emerged from the light, holding its bow defensively.

Junk Archer: Atk 2300, Def 2000, LV 7

"With that, I end my turn," the Head Signer finished. His eyes, looking as though they could defeat even the Master with his sheer will, moved to Matthias. "Your move."

"My turn then," Matthias began, drawing a card and looking at his hand of seven cards. Card of Sanctity may have enabled Yugi to bring out his Egyptian god card, but in doing so it had helped him out as well. "I activate the Spell, Cyber Repair Plant! Since I have three monsters with the name Cyber Dragon in my Graveyard, I can first add the Cyber Dragon I used to XYZ Summon Cyber Dragon Nova from my Grave to my hand, then shuffle Cyber Dragon Drie and Cyber Dragon Zwei into my Deck!"

"Oh this doesn't sound good," Jack grimaced. "If he's going to try what I think he is, then they're in trouble!"

"I activate Power Bond!" Matthias announced. "By sending the appropriate Machine type monsters from my hand and field to the Grave, I can Fusion Summon a Machine type monster."

"Oh this is not good," Jack groaned, his eyes wide.

"What's wrong? Yugi's Sky Dragon will weaken whatever it is he brings out, why should it be not good?" Crow asked, glancing over at the former Turbo King.

"I send the two Cyber Dragons on my field and the third Cyber Dragon in my hand to the Graveyard," Matthias continued. The image of the third Cyber Dragon appeared above his head, all three Cyber Dragons floating into the portal that had appeared above the cyborg's head. "A deadly reckoning force on their own, now three shall be re-forged into a beast that stands alone! Behold the machine that shall bring you to ruin!" With an explosion of light, Matthias brought his hands together. "Fusion Summon! The mighty Cyber End Dragon!" When the light faded, everyone could see the new monster. With massive wings, three heads marked with red, yellow, and green lights respectively, and a thick body, the Cyber End Dragon was rather fearsome to behold. It was smaller than Slifer the Sky Dragon, but still the second largest monster on the field.

Cyber End Dragon: Atk 4000, Def 2800, LV 10

"Since you Summoned a monster and didn't protect it with a Spell or a Trap, Silfer's ability now activates," Yami informed the cyborg. "His second mouth will now strike your monster and render it two thousand Attack points weaker. Your Fusion Summon won't help you! Go Slifer! Summon Lightning Shot!" The Egyptian god's first mouth closed and the second mouth opened, blue energy gathering within. With a roar that shook the street, Slifer fired the blast at the Cyber End Dragon, striking the machine Fusion in the chest that elicited a screech of pain from the Cyber End Dragon.

Cyber End Dragon Atk: 2000

"Now your Cyber End Dragon is weaker than my Egyptian god," Yami declared.

"Is that what you truly think?" Matthias asked, a dangerous gleam in his eye. "Power Bond's effect now activates. Since I successfully Fusion Summoned Cyber End Dragon using Power Bond, its Attack points now increase by Cyber End Dragon's original Attack points!" The Machine Fusion roared as an electric surge crackled over its frame, the lights on its heads glowing dangerously.

Cyber End Dragon Atk 6000

"Six thousand Attack points?!" Yami gasped.

"That's right, Pharaoh," Matthias answered.

"There's only one drawback with using Power Bond," Jack explained. "Something that fool Cyber user failed to realize when he Dueled me. At the End Phase of the turn in which you use Power Bond, you also take damage equal to the original Attack points. That's why it's a really risky play, unless in the hands of a Cyber master."

"Correct again, Atlas!" Matthias boomed. "Your opponent must have been one of my younger apprentices, if he fell victim to Power Bond's side effect. I can assure you these two will not be so lucky. First I activate Raigeki Break and discard my Metallizing Parasite from my hand in order to target and destroy that Scrap-Iron Scarecrow!"

"I don't think so," Yusei said quickly. "I activate Stardust Dragon's special ability! By releasing my dragon, I can negate your effect that destroys one of our cards! Go Victim's Sanctuary!" With a roar, Stardust Dragon dissolved into white sparkles, catching the lightning bolt that Matthias had sent their way and causing it to dissipate harmlessly. "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow is safe!"

"I expected you to do that," the cyborg gloated. "I now activate Mystical Space Typhoon and destroy your Scrap-Iron Scarecrow for good!" A sudden maelstrom whipped up in the mock underwater environment, blowing away Yusei's Trap.

"I activate my facedown Mystical Space Typhoon as well," Bario announced. "And I'll use it to get rid of Yugi's Trap on the right, that Mirror Force!"

"There's no way he knows what his facedown cards are!" Crow gasped as another maelstrom began. "He's just taking a guess, right?"

"These guys have done their homework on Yugi's and Yusei's Decks," Dani commented. "I mean, they've been working around Yusei's Stardust Dragon like it was just another monster, not Yusei's ace."

"We'll see if he chose correctly," Kaiba grunted. The card Bario indicated flipped upright, revealing it to indeed be Mirror Force before the card was blown away by the magical storm.

"But how?" Yami asked as he placed the card in his Graveyard. That was his last possible defense against an attack. His other facedowns were related in a hand replenishing combo, but that wasn't going to help now. He was done for, unless Yusei had a facedown that could save him.

"Everyone has a tell," Bario explained coldly. "Yours is very subtle, King of Games, but it's there nonetheless. Until you figure it out for yourself, I'll be able to tell the bait cards from the actual Traps. Knowing your trump cards, that facedown you played last was obviously Mirror Force, just in case something could overpower your Egyptian god card, as is about to happen."

Matthias nodded. "Now then, Cyber End Dragon, attack Slifer the Sky Dragon and wipe Yugi out of this Duel! Eternal Evolution Burst!" The Cyber End Dragon fired three large fireballs, one from each of its mouths.

"Do something!" Crow shouted. The first fireball hit Slifer in the mouth, stunning the divine beast. The second destroyed the Egyptian god in an almighty torrent of fire. The third flew straight towards Yami, who braced himself futilely.

'Whatever happens, Yugi,' the Pharaoh thought to his partner, 'Just know that the Master will not prevail.'

'There's still a chance, Yami!' Yugi answered frantically, motioning to his right towards Yusei. 'Look!'

"I activate my Trap, Defense Draw!" the Head Signer shouted. The indicated Trap flipped upright and intercepted the third fireball, dispelling it harmlessly. "I negate the damage that Yugi would've taken, and then I'm allowed to draw one card from my Deck!" Yusei drew a card as Yami smiled appreciatively.

"Thanks, Yusei. I owe you one," he said as the smoke cleared. He may have been down his Egyptian god card, but at least he was still in this Duel. They still had a chance.

"Anytime, Yugi," Yusei replied with a thumbs up. Had the situation not been so dire, he might have given Yugi a friendly smirk, as well. "You saved me earlier this Duel, it's only fair I returned the favor."

"It matters not that he survived," Matthias shrugged. "The gods have let you down, Pharaoh. Slifer the Sky Dragon is no more."

"And so will you, as Power Bond will deal to you four thousand points of damage at the end of your turn!" Yami pointed out.

Matthias shook his head. "You're the King of Games, Yugi. You should know that a true master of his Deck would not make such a foolish move. You need to know how to play your cards, not just use them. I activate the Quick-Play Spell, De-Fusion, splitting up my Cyber End Dragon into the original three Cyber Dragons used to create it!" With a flash of silver light, the Cyber End Dragon did just that, separating into three Cyber Dragons, each rearing for battle."

Cyber Dragons, Atk 2100, Def 1600, LV 5

"That's not good," Jack noted. "Now he has more attacks this round and Yugi's wide open!"

"Since you seemed to have exhausted your resources in trying to stop our attacks on Slifer the Sky Dragon, you are finished, Yugi!" Matthias declared. "Cyber Dragon, attack Yugi Muto now! Evolution Burst!" The Cyber Dragon on the left gathered yellow energy in its mouth until it began to spill around its teeth, then launched it with a flick of its head at the King of Games.

"I still have a facedown to play!" Yusei announced. "I activate my Trap, Reject Reborn! Since you declared a direct attack, I can end the Battle Phase and Special Summon one Tuner monster and one Synchro monster from my Graveyard. The downside is that they can't use their special abilities, but it's well worth it in order to bring back Junk Synchron and Turbo Warrior from my Graveyard!" A pillar of light erupted in front of Yami, blocking the Cyber Dragon's attack. Junk Synchron and Turbo Warrior darted out of the pillar and took their place on Yusei's side of the field, Junk Synchron crouching down while Turbo Warrior struck a determined pose.

Matthias smiled. This was the battle he'd been searching for. Even one as calculating as he couldn't help but feel the thrill of this tense Duel. He knew his counterpart also felt a twinge, even in that frozen heart of his. Even though their odds of victory had decreased to sixty-six percent, the cyborg knew that this was a Duel he would always remember. "Very good, Yusei. You saved Yugi for one more turn. Make it count, because you'll have to deal with my ace once more. I activate Polymerization, sending my three Cyber Dragons to the Graveyard once more to create the Cyber End Dragon!"

"That's one way to get around Power Bond's drawbacks," Crow commented as they watched the Fusion Summon commence once more. "Sure, he doesn't have the Attack point boost anymore, but he's still got a major league monster out there that'll strike right through any wall monster Yugi and Yusei try to set up." With a metallic screech, the Cyber End Dragon made its presence known again.

Cyber End Dragon: Atk 4000, Def 2800, LV 10

"I'll end my turn with one card facedown," Matthias finished. His glowing cybernetic eye appeared to be scanning both Duelists, searching for signs they were cracking. He knew he'd touched a nerve earlier with his comments about Akiza, but how was he going to expand that crack in Yusei's mental armor? The art of Dun Moch was a talent he enjoyed playing, but it had to be applied carefully to achieve maximum effect.

"Since I used Stardust Dragon's ability, it now returns to the field," Yusei informed him. With a flash of light, his ace monster appeared once more, twinkling specks scattering as Stardust flapped its wings and alighted behind Yusei with a roar.

Stardust Dragon: Atk 2500, Def 2000, LV 8

"It's my turn!" Yami began. "I draw!"

The Master's Lair

"If that draw is Dark Spiral Force," the Master mused to himself, "Yusei is doomed. This is working better than I expected!" His chaotic eyes watched the monitor, hungry and eager to see their demise. "You've waited centuries for this moment, what's a few more minutes?"

Chaos Movement Entrance

The Pharaoh looked at the card he'd drawn. 'Dark Spiral Force! This could help take down that Cyber End Dragon! But we'll need the Dark Magician back from the Grave to use him.'

'Looks like we'll have to use that combo we set up last turn,' Yugi commented. 'Maybe then we'll draw what we need.'

Yami nodded as he pressed a button on his Duel Disk. "I reveal my facedown card, Card Destruction! Now we must discard all our cards in our hands, then redraw the same number of cards from our Decks!" He placed his four cards in the Graveyard, watched the others place their cards in their respective Graveyards.

"Yugi must not have liked what he had," Kaiba commented. He eyed the Cyber End Dragon suspiciously. What was with the Chaos Movement and bringing out three-headed dragons, even if this was a machine and not a true dragon? First there was the Red-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, a card that should have never existed in his opinion, now this Cyber End Dragon. The Kaibacorp executive smiled. They could try to copy his Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon all they liked, they would never surpass its power.

"Next, I activate my other facedown card, Disgraceful Charity!" the Pharaoh announced. A dark angel appeared out of the Trap card and sent a red beam of energy that struck the Graveyards of each player.

"Interesting," Matthias mused as his Duel Disk spat out the one card he'd been forced to discard. "An ingenious method to maximize hand replenishment, while simultaneously helping out your teammate and minimizing any benefit we might receive. No matter, I've taken precautions against whatever you may try. I activate my Trap, Roll Out! Now I can bring out a Union monster from my Graveyard and equip it to an appropriate monster. Metallizing Parasite Lunatite, revive and equip to my Cyber End Dragon!" A metallic leech wormed its way up out of the ground, then attached itself to Cyber End Dragon's spine.

"So what does this Union monster do?" Yami asked, curious when the Attack points of Cyber End Dragon didn't change.

"Cyber End Dragon is now immune to all Spells, thanks to my Parasite," Matthias informed him.

"Very well then," Yami conceded. "There are other ways to take down your Dragon. I activate Monster Reborn and bring back the Dark Magician! Return to me, my faithful companion!" There was a flash of purple light as a portal opened on the ground, through which Yugi's ace monster floated through and raised his staff in preparation for battle.

Dark Magician: Atk 2500, Def 2100, LV 7

"Next I activate the Magic of Thousand Knives," the Pharaoh continued. "Since I control the Dark Magician once more, I can give that General Gantala of the Ice Barrier a one way trip to the Graveyard!" The Dark Magician waved his staff and a thousand knives appeared behind him. With another flick of his staff, the knives flew right at General Gantala. The Ice Barrier General did his best to deflect what knives he could, but there were simply too many and the General found himself full of blades before shattering into a million fast dissolving pieces.

"Now that is how you get rid of a monster!" Crow grinned. He glanced over at Dani, who returned the smile.

Yami played a monster on his Duel Disk. "I Summon Magician's Valkyria to the field in Attack mode!" A brunette female spellcaster in teal armor appeared, fierce blue eyes glaring at her opponents.

Magician's Valkyria: Atk 1600, Def 1800, LV 4

"I activate my Trap, Aquatic Ambush!" Bario interrupted. "Since you successfully Normal Summoned a monster and I have no monsters on the field, I can Special Summon any Level four or lower Water Attribute monster from my hand to the field in Defense mode, like my Strategist of the Ice Barrier!" An elderly man in ornamental Chinese robes appeared, kneeling on the stone walkway in front of Bario.

Strategist of the Ice Barrier: Atk 1600, Def 1600, LV 4

"And since this monster is a Water attribute, it is powered up by A Legendary Ocean," Bario finished. "Your damage shall be minimal this turn."

Strategist of the Ice Barrier: Atk 1800, Def 1800, LV 3

Yami smirked. "Oh really? I activate the Equip Magic of Dark Spear and equip it to my Dark Magician! Now if he attacks a monster, even if it's in Defense mode, it will still deal damage to your Life Points!" The Dark Magician's staff transformed into a spear of similar coloration and gave it an experimental spin as though to get used to its heft.

"Yugi may have pierced his defenses, but still, that monster saved Bario's Life Points from complete annihilation this turn," Kaiba noted. "This man is proving a formidable defender indeed."

"Now my Dark Magician!" the Pharaoh began, pointing at Bario's monster. "Crush that Strategist of the Ice Barrier! Dark Piercing Magic Attack!" The Dark Magician drew an ancient symbol in the air with his spear, creating a lance of dark purple energy above his head. With a wordless battle cry, the Dark Magician thrust his spear forward, the magical lance flying forward and passing through the Strategist of the Ice Barrier to strike Bario in the center of his icy blue armor. The cold Duelist grunted in pain for reply.

Bario LP: 3200

"Now Magician's Valkyria, attack his Life Points directly!" Yami shouted. "Mystic Scepter Blast!" With a deft twirl of her staff, Valkyria fired a blast of green energy at Bario, knocking him backwards several steps. The Pharaoh was impressed that he remained standing, but didn't let it faze him.

Bario LP: 1600

"I'll place three cards facedown, and end my turn," Yami finished. He had been so close to taking out Bario. These two were true Duelists, their skills with their cards remarkable. How could they not see that the madman they were defending was only going to bring them to ruin? Under ordinary circumstances, this would've been one of the most fun Duels he'd ever had. As it was, it was one of the most intense Duels he'd fought. Their actions had confirmed Yami's suspicions about their loyalties: he knew he wasn't going to turn them. Now, he just had to work with Yusei and defeat them.

"My turn then!" Bario began. "I draw!" He played his card immediately on his Duel Disk. "Since you control 4 or more cards than I do, I'm allowed to Special Summon my Medium of the Ice Barrier to the field in Attack mode!" A blue-haired priestess in a beautiful light blue ceremonial dress appeared, long hair waving gently in the Legendary Ocean.

Medium of the Ice Barrier: Atk 2200, Def 1600, LV 7

"Next I Summon the Secret Guards of the Ice Barrier in Defense mode!" A man wielding twin ice swords and wearing light armor appeared, brandishing his blades for battle.

Secret Guards of the Ice Barrier: Atk 100, Def 1600, LV 2

"I now activate the Spell card Surface, which allows me to Special Summon an Aqua, Fish, or Sea Serpent type of monster from my Graveyard," Bario continued. "Revive, the Tuner Monster Defender of the Ice Barrier!" With a flash of blue light, the icy fox appeared in the water once more, tail flicking in irritation.

Defender of the Ice Barrier: Atk 200, Def 1600, LV 3

"I am really starting to hate that fox," Crow commented. "Just when it seems like Yugi and Yusei are rid of that thing, Bario keeps on reviving it."

"And thanks to A Legendary Ocean, their power is increased!" Bario informed them.

"I did not revive Defender of the Ice Barrier merely to block your attacks," the samurai told his opponents. "You've proven twice over that Defender of the Ice Barrier does not faze you. It's time to go on the offensive. I Tune Level two Defender of the Ice Barrier with Level one Secret Guards of the Ice Barrier and Level seven Medium of the Ice Barrier!" The fox leaped into the air, turning into two stars that expanded out into two blue rings.

'I have a bad feeling about this,' Yugi said grimly.

"The trident of the north will awaken from its snowy prism and enlighten the blue moon!" Bario chanted as Medium of the Ice Barrier and Secret Guards of the Ice Barrier jumped into the two blue rings, dissolving into seven more stars. "Adamant diamond of the aurora arise!" There was a sudden chill in the water as the stars erupted into a brilliant blue light. "Synchro Summon! Appear, Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier!" There was a growl that reverberated through the Legendary Ocean as the light faded, revealing a three headed dragon covered in dark blue scales, white scales on its heads, wings, and chest resembling armor.

Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier: Atk 2700, Def 2000, LV 9

"Trishula's ability now activates!" Bario announced. "When he's successfully Synchro Summoned, I can remove one card from one of my opponent's Hand, Field, and Graveyard from play! And since this was a banishment and not a destruction, Stardust Dragon can't counter this ability."

Trishula. Dragon of the Ice Barrier: Atk 2900, Def 2200, LV 8

The three heads of Trishula began to glow with an icy blue aura. Bario glared at the Pharaoh. "I will direct my Trishula's ability towards you Yugi! First, Trishula shall eliminate your Dark Magician!"

"I don't think so," Yami countered as the head on the left fired a brilliant blue sphere of energy at his ace monster. "Not so long as Magician's Valkyria is on the field. You must target her with your effects before you can target any other Spellcaster!" Magician's Valkyria leaped in front of the Dark Magician, looking back with a solemn look in her eye. Her gaze never left his, even as she was incinerated by the blast from the Dragon of the Ice Barrier.

Bario scowled at that. "Next I remove the card on the far right of your hand."

Yami removed said card. 'So much for Swords of Revealing Light.'

"And lastly, I'll remove Slifer the Sky Dragon from your Graveyard, preventing you from bringing that beast back!" Bario finished. The image of the divine dragon appeared briefly behind the Pharaoh as he removed Slifer from his Graveyard, pocketing the Egyptian god card.

"Yugi's dodged a bullet thanks to his Valkyria," Kaiba noted. "Still, given the strength of that dragon, I don't see his Dark Magician lasting much longer, unless those facedowns are game changers."

Bario played a card in his Magic and Trap card zone. "I activate the Spell card Deep Sea Attack! This allows me to discard a Water Attribute monster with two thousand or more Attack points to the Graveyard and let one of my Water monsters attack your Life Points directly! I discard General Raiho of the Ice Barrier to the Graveyard and enable Trishula to attack you directly!"

"No way! You're not even going to try and take down my Dark Magician?" Yami gasped. Bario was right, he was getting read like a book, as his facedowns were more geared towards defending his Dark Magician than his Life Points.

"The look on your face tells me my hunch was correct," the cold warrior said, allowing himself a small, icy smile. It appeared this was checkmate.

Yami wasn't going to give up though. "I reveal my first facedown, Dust Tornado! Now I can destroy one of your Magic or Trap cards, then set one of my own cards facedown! I think I'll take out that Legendary Ocean of yours!" Another maelstrom began, this one clearing away the water and the buildings that had been created by Bario's Field Spell.

"Thank goodness," Dani breathed a sigh of relief as the mock water level finally shrank away. She wanted to wipe the water away, even though it had only been holographic. Conflicting sensory inputs could give her a headache. And speaking of sensory inputs, that flicker of something caught her eye again. It came from a small pile of rubble, nothing anyone would normally give a second glance towards. But her gut was telling her that this was important.

"Something wrong?" Crow asked, noticing Dani's attention drawn elsewhere.

"Crow, I'm going to check something out," she replied, not looking away. She didn't want to lose sight of whatever it was she'd seen. "Just trust me on this one."

"I do," Crow said, curiosity piqued. "I'm just wondering what it is has you worried."

Dani shrugged. "It could be nothing." A flicker of red wavered within the rubble. "Or something. I'll let you know." She started over towards the rubble as Bario glanced over at Matthias and nodded.

"I activate my Trap, Cyber Spiral Force," Matthias announced. "Until this turn's End Phase, I can take a monster on our field and increase its Attack points by the original Attack points of one Cyber monster I have on my field. So, Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, receive Cyber End Dragon's four thousand Attack points!" His Fusion monster roared, a beam of yellow energy passing from the forehead of the center head of the Cyber End Dragon to the center head of Trishula. The Ice Barrier Synchro roared, sending a shock wave across the battlefield that everyone felt, even Leo and Luna.

Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier: Atk 6700

"That can't be good," Leo grimaced as the shock wave rocked the convertible slightly. "Is Yugi really going to take a direct attack from a monster with over six thousand Attack points?"

"I sure hope not," Luna answered, holding a whimpering Kuribon in her arms. "He doesn't have Kuriboh to save him. I don't know how he's going to handle it."

"Come on Yugi!" Leo cheered, knowing full well that they couldn't hear him. It was the thought that counted. He only wished he could give more than his thoughts and cheers towards Yusei and Yugi, and Akiza, for that matter. She'd flinched a couple of times, causing Leo to think that maybe she was finally waking up, but the Foot Signer remained comatose. He wondered just what was going on in her head, hoping that she was beating the alternate personality the Chaos Movement had put in her.

Akiza's Mind

Akiza was troubled. Her dark side had decided that she was going to throw all the bad memories from her childhood at her, keeping her distracted from focusing on getting out. It was working. Every time she'd taken a few deep breaths and begun to steady her heartbeat, an image would flash before her eyes. Sometimes it was the night her father had called her a monster when her powers first manifested. Other times it was when her powers had run wild at Duel Academy, the first whispers of Witch being murmured behind her back. The worst was when the Black Rose Witch showed her attacking Yusei in the Fortune Cup, mercilessly attacking over and over with Rose Tentacles. Dark Akiza loved it, going on about how it had been a demonstration of their power. It just hurt Akiza to watch the man she loved being hurt by her own hand. The worst part was, Dark Akiza was right in that at the time, the Foot Signer had indeed enjoyed hurting Yusei. She'd only cared about getting past him to take on Jack Atlas and show the world that the Arcadia movement had meant business.

"Go Rose Tentacles! Attack him again!' her past self shouted. Akiza was helpless, not even able to close her eyes as Rose Tentacles grabbed Yusei in four of its vines, lifting him into the air and slamming him into the ground. Her dark side would occasionally alter the memory, for her own amusement, of course. Sometimes Rose Tentacles would send Yusei flying off the arena, much to Akiza's horror. Sometimes Rose Tentacles would start squeezing the life out of Yusei, letting his body fall to the arena with a dull thud. Sometimes, she did much, much worse things.

"Why are you doing this?" the Foot Signer asked, trying to ignore the horrifying images being played out before her.

"To show you what you'd be like without ME at the controls," her dark side responded. "You need me, so we can show the world we are meant to be feared! Our powers could take down armies if we fully unleashed them! You keep holding back!"

"Because I'm tired of hurting people!" Akiza shouted. "I just want to live a normal life!"

Dark Akiza laughed, materializing in front of her. She dropped the illusion of the Fortune Cup, returning to the mindscape of New Domino City. Her dark side was growing stronger, the darkness that had overtaken her eyes spreading to create Dark Signer-like markings on Dark Akiza's face, similar to the mask Akiza had used during those times. She'd also donned the cloak that Akiza had worn back when she was the Black Rose, the shadowy folds flapping menacingly behind her. "Sweetheart, ever since you first used your psychic powers, your life was going to be anything but normal. The sooner you accept that, and accept that I should be the one in charge, the sooner all this pain will go away and we can begin to make things right!"

Akiza trembled at the sight. She was scared. Scared and tired of the games being played in her head. So much of her wanted to give in, to simply release it all and rest in some eternity. It was so draining, listening to herself debate over servitude or mastery. Over passivity and chaos. Yet she knew that that was exactly what Sayer or the Master would have wanted. She was Akiza Izinski, she wasn't some weapon that Sayer tried to make her into, and she certainly wasn't some slave like the Master apparently desired. She had to keep fighting.

"I know that look in your eye," Dark Akiza said with a wicked smile. "Of course you still have some fight in you. Without me, you'd be about as threatening as Little Miss I-Wanna-Kiss-Everyone's-Ass that's just moved in. Hope you have fun with her, because she's all you're going to get to talk to once I get out of here."

"You're assuming you find the key to the exit first," Maid Akiza's quiet voice echoed around the street, the third personality not choosing to appear. "Your overconfidence shall be your downfall."

Dark Akiza rolled her eyes. "You can have fun with Theano over there, I'm leaving this prison." With a flourish of her cape, Akiza's dark side left, leaving the Foot Signer in the middle of New Domino City's main street.

Akiza sighed. There was no point in trying to meditate anymore, knowing what Dark Akiza would throw her way. Thankfully, her submissive personality didn't seem interested in hindering the Foot Signer's escape, choosing instead to focus on her own flight, which made sense to Akiza, seeing as this Maid Akiza would be more interested in serving whatever master she'd decided to work for than helping herself. With that in mind, the Foot Signer began to walk. She didn't have a destination in mind, she just had to keep her legs moving, focus on something other than the horrifying images her dark side had forced upon her.

'Don't bother with Memory Lane,' Dark Akiza informed the Foot Signer, low voice echoing slightly in Akiza's head. 'I already checked.'

"Thanks for the tip," Akiza snapped, looking up at the street signs. They weren't the standard streets she was used to, as this was a metaphorical map of her subconscious. Of course there was Memory Lane, the road she'd just came from. Looking down the street signs, she saw Ego Boulevard, Gray Way, Cerebral Court, and the closest, Dreamland Driveway. "These were the best names my subconscious could come up with?"

Maid Akiza chose that moment to speak up. 'The mind is a simple place. It's beautifully complex, but simultaneously simple.'

Akiza chose to ignore her other self. There was no point in interacting with either of her other personalities, not unless they were actively in her way. She was a Signer for a reason. She had to overcome this. "Let's see what Dreamland Driveway has hidden." She was about ten paces down the street when movement in one of the store windows caught her eye.

"Well hello there Akiza," Yusei's voice rang out. The Foot Signer turned and had to put her hand over her nose to stop the nosebleed. It took an immense amount of willpower to look away from the exposed abs of her fantasized Yusei Fudo, shirtless as he was.

"Not exactly what I was looking for," Akiza said quickly, feeling herself blushing hard. She wouldn't have been surprised to see her face match her hair. The Foot Signer retreated quickly up the street, leaving Fantasy Yusei to re-enter the Deep Fantasies shop that he'd emerged from.

Dark Akiza's cackle echoed around the street. "I just knew you wouldn't be able to stay around that! I had fun creating him when we first met him, he he he, and I know you had a few nights with him as well."

"Shut up!" Akiza yelled, turning up Ego Boulevard. Her basic psychology class at Duel Academy had taught her about the Freudian concepts of the mind, so perhaps this was a good place to look. It would help her to cool off, in more ways than one. The Foot Signer could see the various buildings, labeled by the plans she had for the future. Some of them were related to Duel Academy, getting good grades and graduating with honors, maybe even studying abroad as she figured out what career she wanted to pursue. One was labeled Family, showing pictures of her parents. Yusei was in a few pictures as well, but none as risqué as what she'd seen the next street down. Akiza shook her head. The key wasn't here, she just knew it. The next streets she checked were fruitless as well, much to her chagrin.

Akiza leaned up at the corner of Grey Way and Cerebral Court. Why'd her mind have to be so complex? She glanced down Cerebral Court, wondering if this was going to be more of the same. Then the building at the end of the court caught her attention. "This looks promising."

'I already checked out your dark secrets, remember?' Dark Akiza whispered in her ear. 'You really think you could hide anything in the darkness from me?'

"I don't care, I'm looking anyways," Akiza shot back. There was something about this building. It had three doors, each door appearing to symbolize an identity. The dark door was obviously her dark side, and the new, trim door was her latest addition to her mental trouble. The door in the middle, itself well worn but not dilapidated, called out to Akiza, so she entered. The room smelled clean, like a doctor's office, but there were pile of random items scattered around it. The Foot Signer looked closer at some of the piles.

'Wait a second, this was my calculus homework from last week,' she thought as she looked through a book from one pile. 'And this was my essay on how the introduction of Synchro Monsters has changed Duel Monsters in the last fifty years!' She started as she realized that this building was holding the summation of her intelligence. Obviously the Duel Monsters pile was the most organized, as well as the largest.

"No way," she gasped as she rooted through the history pile. There was some nostalgia as she held up her ancient Egyptian textbook, used to help with the history of Duel Monsters. Times were simpler at Duel Academy, before her powers had been unleashed on her classmates and outed her as a witch. It hadn't been the same when she'd went back after the Dark Signer incident either, though returning to the monotony of daily life was never going to be as interesting when you'd saved the world.

Akiza had a chill run down her spine and spun around to see her dark side standing before her. "Thanks for letting me in."

"You said you already checked this place out!" Akiza exclaimed, watching her dark side warily.

"I checked out my room. Not really much there, though there's some stuff you should buy for when you finally get Yusei into bed. He totally looks like a sub to me," Dark Akiza snickered. "I had to wait for you to open this door so I could get in. Could use some redecorating, but I'll let you worry about that once I'm out of here. Now get out of my way!"

Akiza glanced at the pile behind her. Then she saw it. In the history pile. The ankh. The key the three of them had been searching for. Nearly buried under all the homework she'd had to do, but it was peeking out, just barely. She met her dark side's gaze. "No."

Dark Akiza smiled. "I was hoping you'd say that." Darkness began to swirl around her, her power growing. Akiza took a step back, then dove for the pile. She felt a tendril of dark energy wrap around her leg, numbing her foot first, her calf following. The Foot Signer could feel the numbness spreading, but she was so close. She stretched and grabbed the ankh, feeling warmth spread through her as she did. Unbeknownst to her, the Eye of Wdjat began to glow on her forehead.

"You aren't getting out of here ever again," Akiza told her dark side, holding the key up. It began to glow brightly, dispelling Dark Akiza's attack.

"NO!" Dark Akiza shouted, lunging forward. The light from the ankh grew in intensity, blinding both of them. Akiza heaved a sigh of relief. The darkness took hold once more.

Outside World

Leo yelped as a sudden gale rocked the car. "Luna!"

"Leo!" his twin shouted, glancing back at Akiza. As suddenly as it started, it stopped. They both watched Akiza with bated breath. She stirred, eyes flickering.

"Let's hope this isn't the Black Rose Witch," Leo gulped, reaching instinctively for his Duel Disk.

Luna closed her eyes, trying to sense if there was any darkness around her adoptive big sister. She smiled as she met her twin's inquisitive gaze. "No Leo, I think we're fine! Akiza!"

The Foot Signer groaned as she finally opened her brown eyes. "Owww…my head feels like it's been getting chewed on by a freakin Blue-Eyes…"

"Akiza you're back!" the twins shouted simultaneously, glomping the psychic Duelist in twin hugs.

"I guess I am," Akiza smiled, returning the embraces. She still felt a nagging feeling that this wasn't over.

'It will never be over,' her dark side whispered. 'So long as you live, so shall I.'

'But you'll never escape again,' Akiza thought back sourly. She really didn't want her dark side whispering in her ear all the time. When this was over, she was going to find the best psychiatrist in Japan and help deal with these mental issues. "Where are we? Where's Yusei?"

"He and Yugi are Dueling someone!" Leo practically shouted. "Right over there! Look!"

Akiza blinked a few times, taking in the dark skies and kanji overhead. Her Mark was telling her that Yusei was stressed out, over both this Duel and over her. Of course he was worried about her. She stood up, then found herself dizzy and sat right back down. "Whoa…"

"Are you all right, Akiza?" Luna asked, holding Akiza's arm, looking to help somehow.

The Foot Signer smiled at her reassuringly. "I'll be fine. I just need a moment." She glanced at the dashboard, seeing the Duel on the screen. "Looks like we can watch it from here, anyways."

Leo leaned up against her. "I'm glad you're back, Aki, and not the mean scary Aki or that weird other you that happened when you lost."

"Believe me Leo, I'm just as glad I'm back as you are," Akiza replied. She could feel it in her mind. Those other personalities weren't just going to go away. But for now, she had to focus on helping Yusei take down the Master.

'And after that, perhaps we'll make ourselves useful and find someone to serve,' Maid Akiza said matter-of-factly. The Foot Signer sighed.

Chaos Movement Entrance

"Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, attack Yugi directly!" Bario began, "Absolute Zero Burst!" The three headed dragon roared, icy blue energy gathering in its mouths. With an unearthly shriek, the blast fired directly at Yami, who couldn't even scream as the blast drained the warmth from his body, ice forming all over him.

"Yugi!" Yusei shouted, shocked. He'd thought he'd seen him go for one of his Traps, but the blast was too fast.

"It's over!" Matthias announced.

"Pathetic," Kaiba grunted. "Now I'm going to have Duel these losers."

The ice around Yami cracked and fell to the ground, allowing Yami to fall to a knee, shivering. "I'm not d-d-done y-yet." He couldn't stop his teeth from chattering. It was so cold he could barely feel his limbs.

Yugi LP: 1630

Bario's eyes widened. "What the- How did you take so little damage?!"

'Come on Pharaoh, you've got this!' Yugi said encouragingly.

Yami looked at Bario, meeting his gaze, despite shivering from the cold. "I activated my Trap, Reduction B-Barrier! This reduces the d-damage I would've taken to t-ten p-p-percent!" He rubbed his arms, trying to get some form of feeling back in his limbs.

"So the sixty-seven hundred points coming his way was reduced to six hundred and seventy," Matthias noted. "Very well. Cyber End Dragon shall finish you, then."

Bario narrowed his eyes, irritation on his face. "I end my turn."

"Then it's my turn!" Yusei began. He drew a card and met Yami's gaze. The Pharaoh nodded.

Dani kept one eye on the Duel, but she had a bad feeling as she approached the pile of rubble. The flickering was growing in frequency, making it easier to keep track of. Moving a few rocks out of the way, the female Blue-Eyes Duelist took in the metal object before her. Several wires were connected to a block of something. There were two lights, one flickering red. The other appeared to be green, but that was of no concern to her. She'd seen enough to know what it was. "This isn't good."

"I activate my Trap, Dark Spiral Force!" Yami shouted. The tip of the Dark Magician's staff swirled with energy which flowed out towards Stardust Dragon. Several runes of the Dark Magician appeared on Stardust Dragon's wings. "Since I have the Dark Magician on the field, I can select a monster like Yusei's Stardust Dragon and double its attack points!"

"Thanks Yugi," Yusei said, grinning. Stardust Dragon roared as it felt the power from Yugi's ace.

Stardust Dragon Atk: 5000

The Master's Lair

"YES!" the Master cheered. "DO IT! FINISH HIM!" The madness was easily visible in his eyes as the chaos flowed towards this one moment, the moment he'd been waiting for. It was finally at hand!

Entrance

"Five thousand Attack points?!" Matthias exclaimed. He was alarmed. His AI informed him that he had no countermeasures against this incoming attack. His strategy of focusing on offense while Bario defended him failed in the face of such an onslaught.

"That's right!" Yusei said, no hint of mercy in his tone. "Now go Stardust Dragon!"

"Yusei, wait!" Dani shouted. She ran towards him. He had to know about what she'd found.

The Head Signer ignored her. He had to finish this. "Attack Cyber End Dragon! Go Dark Cosmic Flare!" The Signer Dragon roared and fired a beam of purple and silver energy that struck Cyber End Dragon in the heart, getting a roar of agony from the Cyber Fusion.

"No!" Matthias exclaimed as the Cyber Dragon began to fall. He met Yusei's confident gaze. "You think you've won? Think again!" The Cyber End Dragon fell on a pile of rubble.

Then everything turned white in a cacophony of sound. The ground shook and air rushed in a thunder as the explosion rocked all around it. The world seemed to slow down for Yusei. He could only watch as several shards of metal seemed to fly in his direction. He had the ghostly memory of when he was impaled in that almost-loss against Kalin. Was this it? He heard something.

"Get down!" Yusei found himself on the ground. Time sped up again. He looked at his savior and gasped.

drip

The Pharaoh looked on in shock. "Oh no!"

drip

"No way…" Jack gasped. Kaiba could only stare.

drip

Crow felt a pang in his chest. "No…" Dani stood in front of Yusei, grabbing feebly at the shard of metal that was protruding from her chest, gasping in pain. Blood welled around it in a ghastly, spreading stain. It gathered in fat droplets which fell to the ground under their own weight.

drip. thud.

Unable to stand, Dani fell weakly to the ground. Crow was there instantly, supporting her. He was frantic, but didn't know what to do. "No, Dani, you're gonna be all right!" The words came out in a jumble, one nearly indecipherable from the other. He grasped the shard in her chest, then realized it would be fatal to pull it out. He felt it twitch, then realized that it was moving in time with her heart, and it was growing weaker, fainter.

Dani gurgled weakly. It might have been a laugh. "I have a fucking hole in my chest." A spurt of blood spat out with the last word.

"But why?" was all Yusei could manage, stunned. He saw the tears in Crow's eyes, which only hurt him more.

Dani gestured weakly at Yugi and Yusei. "You two…the world needs you. Take down…" she coughed up some blood onto her shirt. "the Master…"

Yusei could see the light beginning to fade from her eyes, shine giving way to dull glass. He fought back the sudden lump in his throat, met her gaze, and nodded. "We will."

Crow grabbed Dani's hand, tears beginning to flow down his cheeks. "No Dani, you can't go! I've got so much I want to show you!"

Dani held his hand, her eyes starting to glaze over. "Sorry…Crow…" She looked up into his eyes. There was a myriad of emotions in her eyes; fear, sadness, but not regret. "Love….you…too…." She gasped, then her eyes were no longer looking. They were staring, blank, at nothing.

"Dani," Crow cried, feeling her weak grasp on his hand go limp. "No…don't die, please! Come back!" His pleas fell on deaf ears, her soul beyond his reach. "DANIIIIIIIIIII!"
