A few days Later
The following Sunday
"How's Kelsey?" Erin asked Joe at the dinner table.
"When can we meet her?" Sean added.
"Probably never, unless your looking to buy a house." He kept eating. The family exchanged looks. Joe looked up and saw the confusion.
"We broke up." He said finally.
"What?!"
"Why?"
"What happened!?"
A rumble of voices said so shocked.
"Yeah so. She's pregnant, and it's not mine." He told them blatantly. No one could speak, their faces were complete utter shock at this fact.
"Don't worry, it's fine, I'm fine. Just super freaked to ever date again." He shoved his mouth full of food.
"I didn't take her as the cheating kind, I know I never met her but still." Erin said.
"She didn't cheat, this all took place before me."
"And she didn't know?" Henry questioned.
"Nope, until I broke the news to my mom and she did some math,"
"Wow." Eddie said.
"Sorry man." Jamie told him.
"It's all good, I'm relieved a little, also still a tad heartbroken but it's fine." He said playing with his food on his plate.
"Let us know if there's anything we can do." Frank said. Joe nodded as a thanks and they all awkwardly kept eating.
———
Later that night Joe went out to the bar down the street from his place to clear his head. No sooner he sits down…
"Hey." This girl came up from behind him and said.
"Hi." He turned to see her, of course she was beautiful, blue eyes, brown hair, and he couldn't help but notice her low cut dress showing off her chest.
"Is this seat taken?" She asked.
"All yours." He said and watched her sit down.
"Angelina." She introduced.
"Joe, nice to meet you, you come here a lot?" He wondered, he'd never seen her before.
"Oh no not at all! I grew up here but live in North Carolina." She said.
"So what brings you back?" He asked.
"Friends! Haven't seen them in almost a year, I'm here for the summer." She told him.
"Nice, can I buy you a drink?" He said taking notice hers was almost gone.
"Um sure!" She seemed surprised about it and Joe called over the bartender.
They talked over the next 15 minutes or so about how she was staying wherever the wind blew her, whether it was with friends or a hotel. Sounded reckless a little to Joe, she didn't have a job either for the whole summer. Whatever, maybe this could be a fling, no strings attached beings she lived so far away.
"So listen, my friends are actually just a block or two down at a party, wanna come?"
"They won't mind?"
"No! Not at all!" She said.
"If you're sure, I'm down." Joe was ready to move on from Kelsey, and would've said yes to any pretty girl.
"Sweet, let's go." She hopped down off the stool, Joe paid the tab and they walked down the street to this townhouse. You could clearly tell which side the party was. The neon lights flashed through the curtains, the music was bumping from outside the door.
"Geez, this is gonna get busted if they don't turn the music down." He said as they approached the door.
"What are you a cop?" She laughed.
"Ha." He laughed back with her, not telling her he was in fact, but also not saying he wasn't and they entered.
There were people everywhere, the music was so loud, how could anyone hear anyone talking? It took Joe back to his college years almost instantly. Minus the people who didn't know there limit and would get black out drunk, and pass out on the floor. Everyone here seemed okay yet, and responsible. Aside from this damn music.
They walked through the house to find the alcohol, meanwhile Angelina was getting recognized and everyone wanted to hug her and say hi. Joe just stood there to the side and looked around at everyone as he sipped his beer.
"You've gotta be fucking kidding me." He said to himself when he recognized a girl across the room dancing with a couple girls and guys. It was Taylor. He couldn't let her see he was here, how embarrassing.
"Hey Angelina." He interrupted the conversation she was having with some other girl.
"What?"
"I know a girl here. I don't want her to see me, I should go." He said and started to head out.
"No wait!" She pulled his arm to stop him.
"Let's go upstairs." Without letting Joe answer she pulled him up the steps and off to someone's room.
"Uh…we like just met?" He said when she shut the door leaving them alone in someone's bedroom.
"So?" She said on the bed in a way that was very attractive and sexy.
"So I'm not sleeping with you." He said biting his tongue.
"You don't have to then. But a little kissing and such never hurt." She said, then ran her fingers through her hair, flipping it off to one side so it was a little messy, giving Joe those "come here" eyes that he's seen way too many times.
"I guess." He was completely turned on by her. He took off his leather jacket and sat beside her, laid his hand on her cheek and sunk into a kiss. It quickly escalated her laying under him, he was on top.
Joe told himself he was not going any further then kissing with her and so far he didn't. The music downstairs finally stopped, it was shaking the floor underneath them prior. All they heard now was commotion of people.
"Thank god." Joe said in between there lips pressed against each other's. He could actually hear her moaning in pleasure now. He worked his way back to laying beside her, and now she was climbing on top of him. She pulled her shirt off over her head leaving her boobs exposed.
He told himself the second she tries to make any moves on him he'd stop. He kept his hands respectful. Mostly staying on her back. As much as he wanted to explore her unbelievably beautiful body he didn't.
"Police!" A mans voice shouted just before opening the door. Joes brain just being able to process the fact that he was right about the cops busting this party. He pushed Angelina off him and got up fast, just glancing at the officer.
"Jamie." Joes heart stopped seeing his uncle standing there.
"Uh yeah. You two gotta come out here then." Jamie super uncomfortable at the sight left them be to collect there articles of clothing.
"Fuck." Joe said and got up.
"You know him?" Angelina asked getting her shirt back on.
"It's my uncle." He said picking up his jacket and leaving the room.
"Hey Jamie, wait."
"Joe what the hell are you doing at a party like this? And looks like you got over Kelsey no problem" Jamie said being smart.
"I met this girl at the bar and this is her friends place or something." He said.
"Alright well we got a tip there's underage drinking going on, plus two OD's on the way to the hospital." Jamie informed him.
"Shit." Joe was in trouble now just being here, he rubbed his face.
"You got your badge on you?" Jamie asked seeing the worry in his face.
"Course."
"Put it on and help ID everyone downstairs. You been drinking?"
"A couple, I'm fine." He pulled his badge from his pocket.
"Alright, well find a breath mint. How old is she?" He asked pointing over his shoulder with his thumb.
"I don't know." He shrugged.
"Joe…!" Jamie called him out with wide eyes, shaking his head.
"She was at the bar, she's gotta be 21 at least." He defended with a shrug. Jamie shook his head and went back to the room they were in.
"Ma'am can I see your ID." He asked Angelina. Joe headed downstairs to ID everyone. It was gonna be a long night.
——
In the middle of doing his job Angelina found Joe and came up behind him.
"So I'm calling a cab and heading home, wanna join?" She asked.
"No. I'm busy…" he said thinking it was kinda obvious. She had either drank too much or was dumb.
"Right, you are a cop! That's hot." She smiled and laughed in a tipsy manner.
"Thanks?" He didn't know what to say to that.
"Alright well what's your number?" She got out her phone for Joe to type it in, he tried to hurry up before Jamie saw, he was coming down the steps.
"Ang!" A familiar voice called out from behind.
"Sorry I was upstairs with this stud muffin." She said like it was no big deal and ran her hands down Joes forearm. He shook his head not digging the nickname, he then turned to see if it was in fact who he thought.
It was…Taylor. The same Taylor that's been in the back of his mind the last couple months. The same girl who messes with his feelings and complicated things every time she comes back into his life randomly.
"Oh!" She was shocked to see him here.
"Hey." He said.
"Funny seeing you here." She said turning to Joe, seeing he was on duty.
"I found him at the bar like an hour ago." Angelina interjected laughing all giddyishly. Joe tucked his lips in, why did she have to say that. Why did she have to tell her he was here at the party.
"Oh…you weren't working?" She wondered.
"Uh, no…I…uh…-" he didn't know what to say.
"Joe!" Jamie called out saving his ass.
"Gotta go, good to see you." He headed for Jamie.
"I'll call you!" Angelina yelled after him.
"What's up?" He asked Jamie.
"Would you stop getting distracted and think with this head right now!" Jamie referenced by knocking him aside the head with his hand.
"Sorry." He said.
"We're short tonight, I need all hands on deck, quit trying to get laid." He shook his head and was looking to go back to what he was doing.
"That's not what that was." Joe defended.
"Didn't look that way." He said back.
"Whatever, let me finish running IDs and then I can help you at the station." He offered.
"Alright." Jamie nodded and they went there separate ways.
——
As big as New York was what are the odds there all at this party and friends…!? This is the second time he has a run in with Taylor while with another girl! Almost as if it's fate.
