Ch 7 A Slip up

"Kopa what do you mean by that?" Kovu demanded. "How could Kion be the chosen one?"

"Yeah," Vitani piped up. "And whose your father? And why the heck is he so important?"

"He's not," Kopa said quickly. "And forget I said anything. I was just being stupid."

"You can say that again," Kion muttered, rolling his green eyes.

"Sounds like you're a bit jealous there Kopa," Jasiri said with a slight laugh.

"I am not!" Kopa cried out, glaring at the rusty brown cub. "Why should I care that Kion gets all the attention and Kiara and I get the literal shit end of the stick?! I don't care!"

"Wow Kop'," Kion said softly. "I never realized you felt that way."

"Yeah well I don't," Kopa said, avoiding eye contact. "Can we please change of the subject?"

"You guys are really weird," Vitani said, shaking her head and letting out a slight laugh.

"It isn't funny Vitani," Kion said, glaring at the tan coated cub. "Not everything is a joke you know?"

"Jeeze bite my head off why don't you?" Vitani snapped, glaring back at the brown coated cub.

"Don't start another fight 'Tani," Nuka said. "Mom and Dad warned you what would happen if you did."

"Yeah well I don't think you'll be telling Mom and Dad there Nuka," Vitani said, rolling her amber eyes at her twin. "We're not even supposed to be playing with them remember? Jeeze talk about dumb."

"I am not dumb!" Nuka shouted, glaring right back at his sister. "You take that back Vitani!"

"No I won't!" Vitani shouted back.

"Hey whoa there cool down you guys," Safara said, getting between the two furious siblings.

"Hey I've got an idea," Kovu piped up. "Lets go to the gorge and explore a little."

"Hey yeah that's a great idea!" Nuka said, a smile going across his face.

"I think I'm going to pass," Safara said with a sigh. "I'm feeling kind of blah right now."

"Oh alright," Nuka said, sounding disappointed. "Fell better ok?"

"Thanks," Safara said with a smile. With that the cub head back to the Outlands.

"I wanna go to the gorge," Vitani said, sounding a bit impatience. The tan coated cub was impatient by nature.

"Then lets go!" Kopa cried out. With that the group of cubs headed towards the gorge. When Kion looked over his shoulder he could have sworn that he saw Nala hiding in a nearby bush. But when he looked again she wasn't there. "I've gotta stop being so paranoid," Kion though as he quickly ran to catch up to the other cubs. As he walking the brown coated cub had a feeling that something bad was going to happen. He knew his mother was expecting him to carry out the plan today and he wasn't sure that he wanted any part of it. But he knew what would happen if he crossed his mother. That would be deadly. So Kion silently walked along, dreading what he was about to have to do.

Meanwhile back at Pride Rock Simba was getting an uneasy feeling. The golden King had just returned from his rounds and when he arrived Zazu had informed Simba that Nala's children had been spotted near the Outland/Pride Land border. This worried Simba greatly. Just then Zira returned from a walk that she was taking with Sarabi. "Zira!" Simba cried out, running over to his mate and mother. "Mom! Where's Nuka and Vitani?!"

"Simba my goodness what's got you so upset?" Sarabi asked.

"Zazu informed me that Nala's children have been spotted near the Pride Land broder," Simba informed his mother. "I just want to make sure Nuka and Vitani are safe. Now please tell me where they are."

"Honey relax," Zira said, giving Simba a nuzzle. "They're out playing with Jasiri and Kovu."

"Where exactly are they playing Zira?" Simba demanded.

"I don't know exactly where they are," Zira said with a slight laugh. "But I thought you trusted them."

"I do trust them Zira," Simba said. "Its Nala's children that I don't trust." Zira opened her mouth to speak but just then Zazu came swooping in and perched in front of Simba.

"Sire I think I know where the Prince and Princess are," the hornbill said. "And I'm afraid its nowhere good."

"Out with it Zazu," Zira snapped, the impatience coming through her voice.

"They're heading towards the gorge," Zazu cried out.

"What?!" Simba and Zira cried out, their eyes wide in fear.

"Kings Above the gorge is a very dangerous place!" Zira cried out.

"Yes and I've heard that they have been jackals living down there," Sarabi chimed in.

"We have to get to them before something terrible happens to them!" Zira cried out.

"We'll be more than happy to help," Asha said, coming onto the scene along with Cala.

"Thank you ladies," Zira said with a smile. "We'll..."

"Forgive me Madam," Zazu interrupted. "But I do believe the King had already headed there."

"What?!" Zira cried out, looking around and seeing that Simba was indeed gone. "Oh Kings Above why must my mate be so hard headed."

"Do you think we should go after him?" Cala asked.

"Yes," Zira said, after thinking about it for a minute. "I have a feeling he's going to need our help." With that Zira, Cala, Asha and Sarabi headed out of the cave, all of them hoping nothing to bad would happen.

Meanwhile back at the gorge the cubs had arrived and they were currently debating if they should climb down to the bottom. "It sure is steep," Nuka said, peering over the edge.

"Yeah," Safara said, her voice coming out soft. "It sure is."

"I bet its really cool down there," Jasiri said. "We should totally check it out."

"Yeah that would be totally cool!" Vitani cried out.

"I don't know 'Tani," Nuka said. "Mom and Dad are always saying how dangerous the gorge is."

"Ah grown up are always saying the cool places are dangerous," Kopa said, waving his paw.

"Yeah," Jasiri said with a laugh. "That's true. Lets got check it out." With that the rusty brown cub began to go down the side.

"Hold on there 'Siri I don't think that's such a good idea," Kovu said, putting a paw in front of his friend.

"Oh great here come Mr. Killjoy," Vitani said, rolling her amber eyes.

"Vitani I'm the oldest one here," Kovu began. "So its my job to make sure everyone is safe."

"Ah we'll be fine," Jasiri insisted. "Right guys?" Jasiri looked at the other cubs when she said this part.

"Right," Vitani cried out, trying not to let the fact that she was a little scared show.

"Yeah," Nuka chimed in. "We'll be fine 'Vu. And we'll take it slow."

"Yeah like real slow," Jasiri said.

"Well," Kovu said, thinking about it for a minute. "Alright. Lets go." This earned cheers of joy from the other cubs. With that the cubs began to walk down the side of the gorge.

"Now's our chance Ky," Kopa whispered. "We can push Vitani and Nuka down the side of the gorge and it'll look like an accident."

"I thought you didn't want anything to do with it," Kion whispered back.

"Yeah well I changed my mind," Kopa whispered as they began to walk down. Soon the two brothers were directly behind Nuka and Vitani. Kovu and Jasiri were talking so they were oblivious to what was about to happen. "I'll take Nuka you take Vitani," Kopa whispered as he positioned himself directly behind Nuka. Kion took a deep breath and positioned himself behind Vitani. Exchanging looks the two brothers nodded and pushed the twins. The brother and sister let out cries of surprise as they went tumbling down the side of the gorge.
