Ch 13 A Small Hitch

"Mom!" Moto cried out, his black eyes wide with surprise. "Dad! What are you guys doing here?"

"I think the more important question is what are you three doing here?" Fauti said, looking from her children to the Outlander cubs.

"And with the children of Nala no less," Kuato chimed in, glaring at Kiara and Kopa.

"Daddy you don't understand," Chana said. "They're trying to help Vitani and Nuka."

"Oh they are are they?" Kuato said, arching an eyebrow at his daughter. "And how exactly are they going to help?"

"We don't know Dad," Moto admitted. "Kopa was about to tell us when you and Mom came."

"Moto you know that you can't trust them," Fauti said. "Their mother is a master lair and manipulator. No doubt she taught her children how to be the same way. There's no way they'd want to help."

"That's not true!" Kopa cried out, startling Fauti. "We're nothing like our psychopath mother! I sware we're not! That's why we want to help Vitani and Nuka. Because we don't want them to die!"

"Yeah!" Kiara chimed in. "And if we don't stop Mother soon our brother, Kion is gonna become just as twisted and messed up as she is!"

"We can't let that happen!" Safara declared. "Please let us help them!"

"Absolutely not," Fauti said. "We're just now gaining the trust of King Simba and Queen Zira and we're not about to lose that trust due to the word of the children of a would be murderer."

"Please just let us..." Kopa began. But he was cut off by Fauti's furious snarl.

"I suggest that you all go back to the Outlands before we're forced to tell King Simba what you're up to," the female jackals said. "Come children we're leaving. And Kovu and Jasiri I suggest you go back home before your mothers find out what you've been up to." With that Fauti picked up Moto and put him on her back then she picked up Kijana while Kuato picked up Chana and walked backed towards the gorge. Kovu and Jasiri reluctenly followed. But before he left Kovu mouthed the words 'Grasslands tomorrow night.' Then he was gone. Kopa and his friends let out sighs of disappointment as they walked back towards the Outlands.

A little while later Fauti and her family had arrived back at Pride Rock. "We need to inform King Simba and Queen Zira at once," Fauti said as she and her mate placed their pups on the ground.

"No Mom please don't do that!" Moto cried out.

"Yeah please don't rat out Kopa and his friends," Kijana chimed in.

"Children we have to inform the King and Queen of a possible threat to their children," Kuato said.

"But we don't think they're threat," Chana said. "We really do believe that they want to help Prince Nuka and Princess Vitani."

"Yeah they sounded really concerned about them," Moto chimed in.

"Kids they're obviously great liars," Fauti said. "And they can't be trusted."

"But Mom if you tell King Simba then he'll think that we're working with them," Moto said, thinking quickly of a way to prevent his parents from telling on them.

"Yeah," Kijana chimed in. "I mean you said it yourself Mom, we're just now gaining the trust of King Simba. Why ruin over something that's not a big deal?"

"They do have a good point Fa'," Kuato whispered to his mate. Fauti looked at her mate then back at her children. Then she let out a sigh.

"Fine," the female jackal said. "We won't say anything. Just promise us you won't go anywhere near those Outlander cubs again."

"We promise," the triplets said together..

"Very well," Kuato said. "Then lets go get something to eat shall we?" With that the jackal family went to find some food.

Later that night Vitani was having a nightmare. She was dreaming that she and Nuka were back at the gorge and they were falling down the side over and over again. "No," Vitani muttered, rolling around in her sleep. "Please don't." Vitani rolled right into Simba's side, waking the golden King.

"Vitani honey wake up," Simba whispered, gently shaking his daughter.

"No!" Vitani cried out, her eyes popping open, sweat pouring down her face. Panting the tan coated Princess looked up at Simba. "Daddy," Vitani whispered, snuggling into Simba's chest fur.

"Its alright sweetie," Simba gently soothed, wrapping his paws around his daughter, being careful not to put to much pressure on her ribs.

"It was awful Daddy," Vitani whispered, tears going down her face. "Me and Nuka kept falling down the gorge. And...and they wouldn't stop pushing us."

"Who wouldn't stop pushing you?" Simba asked.

"Th...them," Vitani stammered, burying her face in Simba fur as she began to cry harder.

"Shh there now its alright," Simba said, gently stroking his daughter's back.

"What's going on?" came Zira's sleep filled voice. Simba looked over and saw that Nuka was awake as well.

"Just a nightmare," the golden King informed his mate.

"About the gorge?" Nuka asked, his voice coming out very soft.

"Yeah," Vitani admitted, her voice also coming out very soft.

"I get those too sometimes," Nuka informed his sister.

"Do you remember being pushed?" Vitani asked with a sniffle.

"Not really," Nuka said, shaking his head slightly. "I thought we fell. Were we pushed?"

"I keep remembering someone pushing us," Vitani said. "And its always the same in my nightmares too. But when I wake up I...I can't remember who it was that pushed us."

"Well you and your brother are safe now darling," Zira said, licking the top of her daughter's head.

"Yeah," Vitani whispered, snuggling back into Simba's fur. "I know." Just then the tan coated Princess yet out a yawn.

"Why don't we all try and get back to sleep?" Simba suggested.

"Good idea," Zira said with a smile. With that the Royal Family layed back down and went back to sleep.

The next morning Vitani and Nuka were up and were chatting with Kovu and Jasiri. "Should we tell them about what happened yesterday?" Jasiri whispered to Kovu.

"I don't know," Kovu whispered back, looking around the cave. Simba was out on his rounds and most of the lionesses were gone for the hunt except for Sarabi and Asha, who had just given birth to Kovu's little sister, Liwa. Liwa was light gold cub with light blue eyes. "I guess it would be alright," Kovu said after a minute. With that the two cubs approached their friends. "Hey guys how are you feeling?" Kovu asked.

"Terrible," Vitani said with a yawn. "I slept like crap last night."

"Another nightmare huh? Kovu asked, sitting beside his friend.

"Yeah," Vitani said with a nod. "I just wish I could remember what happened that day."

"We already told you what happened Vitani," Jasiri said.

"Yeah but I keep remembering someone pushing me and Nuka down the side of the gorge," Vitani informed her friend. "But when I wake up I can never remember who it was and its driving me crazy."

"Wait you remember someone pushing you down the side of the gorge?" Kovu asked, his light green eyes wide.

"Yeah," Vitani said, looking at her friend. Then she noticed the look on Kovu's face. "What's wrong Kovu?" the tan coated four month old asked.

"C'mon Jasiri we've gotta go!" Kovu cried out as he dashed out of the cave.

"Hey wait up!" Jasiri called out, running after Kovu.

"What the heck was that about?" Nuka wondered.

"Beats me," Vitani said, scratching her head. With that the two cubs waited, both of them confused as to what had just happened.
