Hermione was jolted into a new unknown, as this wasn't apparition, it wasn't as dizzying. However, Hermione still felt a bit queasy as she shut her eyes to steady herself. She looked around hoping her background knowledge of anything that she had read would give her a time and place. The bustling sounds of the city allowed her to place that she must have been in an urban place. As she looked around to identify where she was, she noticed she was in an alley that looked more sleazy than she felt safe in. Quickly moving out of the way and onto the main streets she noticed that women were looked like the old pictures of the women's suffrage outfits. That hint gave her the date, as she estimated she had landed in some city in the 1900s. It seemed like the city was very crowded with people who spoke in all sorts of accents. She kept her head straight as she walked briskly around the city to get a grip of where she was.

There was a newspaper boy yelling trying to drown out the rest of the city with his "5 cents a paper! Get your paper right now! Hot stuff!"

She stopped and bought a paper, it read "Chicago, 1900. The Flow of the River Reversed!"

Hermione was confused why the potion had brought her here but decided to continue to explore in hopes of finding the answer. As she roamed the streets, she took in all the history she could. The knowledge of reading about a time period simply didn't stop the awe of being there. Her hand absentmindedly slipped into her pocket. The paper inside slipped up to her hand. Hermione pulled it out to read that she would be staying at " 602 W. 39th St" As she was reading the paper, she smacked into something. Her hand went out to catch herself, only to be caught by another hand. She quickly opened her mouth to apologize for bumping into them.

"I am so sorry sir, I didn't notice where I was going." She exclaimed.

"Not a problem, I was just as busy, I was going to rush off to the hospital." He said.

It was only then that Hermione took a double look at the man who gracefully saved her from falling. It was Carlisle in his doctor's coat. Almost looking as exactly as she had left him. Delighted, she smiled and flirtatiously even coy asked if he remembered her. He smiled back but then there was a small frown on his face as he internally questioned himself. He coughed and cleared his throat, exclaiming that he did need to get to the hospital, but if she wanted he would love to take her for coffee. Hermione agreed after his shift to meet him at the coffee shop right near his work.

While waiting for his shift to get over, Hermione browsed the bookstore. It was there she saw a poster for vampire hunters and anti-vampire propaganda. She pondered it over as she had no qualms with vampires, even though there were a few in the Battle of Hogwarts. Her thought process was quickly interrupted by the chimes of the bells indicating that it was 5'oclock. She hurried over to the hospital, she passed a crowd of people gathered listening to a man speak about how the people needed to fear the night because the devil was at work. With a roll of her eyes, she went into the cafe.

"Carlise, it is lovely to see you again."She had gotten there just in time.

"It is enchanting to see you as well, though I am surprised seeing as how you left last time." He gave almost a nervous chuckle.

"Ah yes I am sure you have questions for me, but I must say that I can not answer them because it is not allowed." Hermione hoped that he would be a gentleman and drop it for the time being. He did as that was exactly what he was.

"I've waited and waited for answers but if that is the case, I can wait some more" He proclaimed.

"I know but I promise someday I will explain it all," Hermione said almost regretfully.

She lived in Chicago for what seemed only to be a second. The couple had quickly gotten to know each other again and it felt much more real than it had the first time. Hermione laughed at the whole situation, she was being courted as he refused to think she deserved anything less. Carlisle was charming, interesting, intelligent and witty. He had her laughing with her eyes shining ever so bright. He felt whole again and was more than happy to be a part of her life. She did question him once about why it looked like he sparkled in the sun, but he brushed it off with an offhand comment. Hermione let the conversation slide like he let her disappearance go. But every chance she got she would be thinking of him and his abilities he thought she didn't notice. She was the Brightest Witch of her age after all.

One night she was walking home from his place as he has a shift in the morning and saw the crowd with pitchforks and fire. Glancing through the alley she noticed there were multiple people with crosses and Bibles screaming for the "vampire" to come out and face them. She quickly disbursed them with a Confundus Charm so that the poor man wouldn't be killed. He thanked her but she had to quickly Obliviate him so that there wouldn't be a riot for witches.

She was talking to Carlisle about seeing the fliers in the bookshop, neglecting to tell him about the riot as no one would really remember much about it anyway. He sent her a look that indicated he wasn't going to say anything about it. So she stopped discussing it, beyond the occasional curious glace sent his way when he wasn't looking.

Soon it was 1901, and they had celebrated almost a year together. Carlisle was working overtime due to the Spanish influenza breakouts. Hermione was wondering if she was going to stay in Chicago for much longer, as the potion was supposed to take her back to the present time. He came home one night at a loss of words. Hermione asked about it but he could only hold her and whisper that he didn't know what to do. He mentioned a teenager was dying and his dying mother was begging him to do something. But he was at a loss. Hermione tried comforting him, "Carlisle, you of all people know what to do, you always do what is right." He sighed and said he needed to think about it. She felt a tug as she was holding him and quickly whispered that she loved him and whatever his decision was. Then she quickly disappeared just like last time.
