"Give me that soda back!" Zander demanded Dr. Z. "You just had one you pop snatcher! That one's mine!"
"So what? My inventions saved you and everyone else today! So, I should get whatever I want, you got that?" Dr. Z scowled at Zander.
"Everyone except Terry and Spiny," Max uttered under his breath.
"If you don't give it back, I'll take it from you!" Zander dove at Dr. Z, but the scientist dodges. Zander kept trying to take the soda, but it was no use, the tallest member of the Alpha Gang wasn't able to get his soda back from Dr. Z. In all of the mayhem, Dr. Z lost his grip on the soda bottle. The bottle flew directly out of the scientist's hands and straight onto one of the control panels where the bottle shattered upon contact. The control panel got soaked by the sticky brown fluid. Sparks began to fly from it as the warning light of the Backlander began to start flashing.
"Now what have you Alpha Clowns done?" Max scowled at them.
"That spilled soda just fried the Onboard Navigational Computer!" Rex scolded the quartet.
"Are you kidding me?" Gabriel roared at the Alpha Gang. "I just got done fixing that!"
Even the chibi Olorotitan barked a few times at the Alpha Gang to show how upset that he was that the Alpha Gang just ruined something so carelessly that Gabriel and Johnathan had been working hard to fix.
"I not only lost the Timeline Interface, but I have lost all control of the ship! Get ready for a crash landing!" Johnathan alerted all of the passengers before the ship completely spiraled out of control.
"This is all your fault, Doctor!" Ursula scolded the scientist.
"My fault? This is all Zander's fault!" Dr. Z tried to protest.
"It is kind of your fault, Dr. Z. Thanks to you, Johnathan and I have to spend another who knows how long fixing the time machine again!" Gabriel hissed.
"No, it is not! If Zander would've just given me the soda, we wouldn't be in this mess!" Dr. Z screeched back.
"You had one, I watched you drink it. That one was clearly Zander's," Ren chimed in.
"Thank you! Someone understands," Zander puffed out his cheeks.
"Stop arguing! We need a plan to restart the controls or else our ship will get completely blown off course," Max told the others.
"Blown off course? That's it!" Johnathan suddenly exclaimed. The android turned to the controls that had been covered in soda. He inhaled deeply before blowing a large gust of wind at the controls. The soda began to disappear from the controls as it dried up from the air.
"Look at that," Zoe smiled.
"He's drying out the controls?" Max asked aloud. "Amazing."
Once Johnathan was done blowing air onto the controls, the ship's emergency lights stopped flashing and the ship stopped spiraling out of control. Everyone looked at each other with relief. Even all of the dinosaurs were dancing about and cheering.
"My motherboard is from a weather manufacturing droid. Those features sometime come in handy," Johnathan informed the rest of the group. Gabriel walked over to the controls and tried to move a joystick, but it was stuck in place. Gabriel pushes a little harder, and the joystick reluctantly moved.
"Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. The soda may be gone, but the controls are all still really sticky. This will take a bit to clean up and fixed," Gabriel replied. He pushed the joystick back to its original place.
Just then, a familiar shining white light emitted itself through the front windshield of the control room. The pterosaur was back as she flew just in front of the ship. All of the chibi dinosaurs rushed towards the glass and put their arms or front legs up on the glass. They were all ecstatic to see the glowing dinosaur again.
"Follow me," the pterosaur instructed.
"She's back," Rex said aloud.
"Yeah, but what I still want to know is why," Ren told her brother.
"The danger is growing. You must follow me to the next time period before it is too late," the pterosaur told the group.
"Are our parents in this time period?" Max asked.
"Why did the Space Pirates time nap them?" Rex questioned.
"What do they want with our dinosaurs that they had taken?" Ren inquired.
"Are our parents safe?" Zoe finished up the round of questions for the pterosaur.
"I am taking you where you need to go. Follow me and trust me. We will be there soon," The pterosaur ensured the kids.
"But where is there?" Rex asked her.
"Right here," The pterosaur turned, creating a tunnel for the Backlander to follow her down. "Good luck."
The Backlander emptied out into the sky above a stunningly beautiful ocean. The water was so clear that you could see straight into it like glass. There were some islands nearby with gorgeous white beaches.
"Wow, this is beautiful!" Zoe smiled through the glass as she looked at the water below.
"At least that time travelling bird dropped us somewhere pretty," Ursula mused.
"But where are we?" Max asked as he looked around the area.
"I could tell you if I had a map, but I'm more curious as to when," Ren crossed her arms. "As far as I can tell, me may just be in present day."
"As in our own timeline?" Gabriel questioned Ren. The blonde nodded in response.
"We have arrived in a very dangerous place: the Caribbean Sea in the year 1718," Johnathan informed the band of time travelers.
"I love the Caribbean Sea! Let's lie on the beach and go tanning," Ursula suggested.
"I wonder if there are any dinosaurs here," Dr. Z pondered.
"I wonder if we can eat lobster," Ed wondered.
"Wait, did you say 1718?" Gabriel asked Johnathan.
"Yeah, that's what he said. Why?" Max replied to Gabriel.
"Around the 1700's pirates swarmed the seas. The Caribbean Islands were said to be loaded with buried treasure that lured many of them here," Gabriel responded.
"Treasure?" Ursula asked Gabriel. "That settles it! We're going down there! Johnathan, put this tin can on the ground!"
"Wait, guys! Look!" Rex's voice alerted the rest of the group. He had his Time Positioning System out and pointed at a blinking red dot on the screen. "Our parents our in this time period!"
"So that means those Space Pirates are probably here too. Because wherever they go, our parents are forced to go with them," Max told Rex.
"And Ebony and Chomp," Ren reminded.
"And don't forget Terry and Spiny too," Rex added in.
"Well, back in Rome the girl pirate, the one they called Sheer, took Spartacus' Yellow Cosmos Stone," Rex reminded them.
"So, that probably means that they came here to steal something else, something just as valuable," Zoe piped up.
"So, if we could figure out what they came here to steal-" Rex began.
"Then we can find them!" Ren finished her brother's sentence.
"But why do they need to bring our parents with them everywhere they go? That's what I want to know," Max told the rest of the D-Team.
"Stop! All of this parent talk makes me miss my mommy," Dr. Z wailed to the kids. The D-Team blinked at him before they exchanged glances with one another. "Nothing's more important than a mother!"
Two holographic screens materialized into the front control room accompanied by a familiar beeping. It's the same beeping that occurred whenever the dino holder detected a dinosaur.
"There's a dinosaur that has appeared on the island directly below us," Johnathan had informed.
"Great!" Dr. Z told Johnathan before he turned to the Alpha Gang. "There's nothing more important than getting my dinosaurs down there to battle in their new armor."
"I thought mothers were-" Ed began before he was cut off by Dr. Z.
"Quiet, Momma's Boy! Now get the dinosaurs ready, or there will be no beach time for anyone!" Dr. Z commanded the Alpha Gang. Ursula, Ed, and Zander quickly saluted Dr. Z.
"Right away, Doctor, sir!" The three of them chimed together. Just then, the sliding door to the front control room slid open and revealed a very angry looking Helga.
"You will put on sunblock lotion before going outside or else! You understand?" Helga screamed at the Alpha Gang. The Alpha Gang, including Dr. Z, flinched at the yelling from their android maiden. Dr. Z recovered and crossed his arms and turned away from her.
"Or else what, Helga? You can't stop us from going out on our mission and if we want to get sunburnt doing it, that's just what we'll do!" Dr. Z retorted.
"Then I guess getting sunburnt will hurt just as much as me ripping up this move card," Helga told Dr. Z as she held up an earth aligned move card.
"Wait! You can't rip that up! It's brand new!" Dr. Z told the android maid.
"So then chose," Helga sternly told Dr. Z.
"If I put on lots of sunblock then you'll give me my card back?" Dr. Z reasoned with Helga in a frantic tone of voice.
"Only if you use SPF 80," Helga replied to the short scientist.
"Ok you win," Dr. Z told Helga defeatedly. He turned to the Alpha Gang. "Ok everyone, lather up!"
"Aww, what about my tan," Ursula pouted as she followed Dr. Z to go put on sunblock lotion.
"In some cultures, pale is fashionable," Zander told Ursula as he walked with her and Dr. Z. Ed silently trailed behind them.
The D-Team teleported down to the ground with their dinosaurs. They watched as the Backlander disappeared out of sight, camouflaging itself to its surroundings with its stealth mode. The kids began to glance around the island, but it wasn't long until some voices attracted their attention. It sounded like the voices were all trying to shout over each other, but the D-Team couldn't figure out who was shouting.
"What's going on?" Max asked, trying to figure it out.
"I'm not sure," Rex replied as he scanned the area.
"Over there!" Zoe pointed towards some trees. A band of men dressed in uniforms were running their direction.
"This seems familiar," Ren said sarcastically. It wasn't like they just got finished running from the Roman army all of the time or anything.
"Are they running at us or away from something?" Max alarmingly asked.
"Either way, let's not find out," Rex responded. He took the lead in running away from the men that were heading towards the D-Team. Max, Ren, and Zoe followed him. Zoe trailed behind and seemed to get caught up in the flurry of soldiers. She stopped running and looked around. This inevitably led a young boy from the crowd to barrel into her knocking the two onto the ground.
"Zoe!" Ren called from over her shoulder. She stopped as she saw her friend fall.
"Get down," Max said as he pulled Ren and Rex into the tall grass around them. A taller and older blonde man ran onto the scene.
"Jim, come on!" He hollered.
Zoe winced from the impact of the fall. She opened her eyes to see the boy that she had collided with hovering over her. The boy blinked at the girl underneath him. He was awestruck.
"You're- You're beautiful," the boy told Zoe as he stared into her eyes. The rest of the D-Team was watching the scene nearby in the grass.
"That guy's weird," Max commented.
"Uh-huh," Rex agreed.
"Oh no he doesn't," Ren fumed. She began to get up from her crouch to barge in at the two. Rex put his hand over his sister's head and pushed her back down to the ground.
"Jim, let's go!" the older man called out for the boy again. The boy looked up before getting to his feet. He began to run a couple of steps before he stopped and turned back to Zoe. He grabbed her wrist.
"Come on!" He said before he began to take off clinging onto Zoe.
"Wait, why?" Zoe questioned the boy as she began to run behind him. Paris galloped behind Zoe trying to keep up with the two kids. "Why are we running?"
From the direction the crowd was fleeing from, trees began to rustle, and the ground began to rumble. There was something big that was quickly approaching. Bursting through the foliage, an Edmontonia, a relative of Ankylosaurus, emerged and roared at the running crowd.
"It's an Edmontonia!" Rex exclaimed to Max and Rex as the three kids rose to their feet.
"And look at its forehead!" Ren pointed. Sure enough, the earth elemental had the same hexagonal shape on its forehead as the other Space Pirate dinosaurs.
"That means the Space Pirates are nearby," Rex replied.
"Toril, let's go!" Max called. He began to raise his wrist towards his fact to use his Dino Bracer. However, the Edmontonia was engulfed in a red-violet light as it was recalled before the D-Team could do anything about it.
"Huh? It's gone," Ren observed as the light vanished.
"Soldiers, stop running! The monster disappeared! We won!" A voice proclaimed. Ren and the boys looked to see where the voice was coming from. The crowd the was fleeing from the dinosaur were all dressed in uniforms. So, they were soldiers, that much was clear.
"The British Army," Ren's brows furrowed as she looked at the men dressed in uniforms.
"Now, go and arrest those two," the first voice in the army, presumably the captain, ordered as he pointed. Max, Ren, and Rex followed his finger to see that he was pointing to the man and the boy who had his grip on Zoe.
"Oh, no! Run, Jim!" The man told the boy.
"Come on, run!" The boy, Jim, told Zoe. They began to run again, the boy turned and sprinted, once again pulling Zoe behind him.
"Run where?" Zoe questioned Jim, but no response.
"Zoe, where are you going?" Max asked as the man, Jim, and Zoe passed by them.
"I wish I knew!" Zoe called back to him. Suddenly, shots from the British Army shot towards the man, Jim, and Zoe. Max and the boys ducked to avoid being hit in the crossfire.
"We need to follow them," Ren told Max and Rex. Both of the boys nodded in agreement with Ren. Careful of the British Army behind them, Ren and the boys trailed Jim, Zoe, and the man that was with them from a distance. They had to get information on where they were going and why the British Army was after the people that Zoe was with.
Nearby, the Space Pirates were digging a hole. Presumably, they were looking for something. The hole was fairly wide. It was big enough to fit all four of the Spectral Space Pirate's dinosaurs if they wanted to.
"It's not here. I guess we dug this hole in the wrong place," Gabbro told the other pirates.
"Are you kidding me?" Goma hissed.
"After all that?" Sheer was about to snap.
"We did all that work for nothing them?" Goma questioned.
"Yup! No apology for making us dig fifty feet. Just "Oh, duh. I guess it's the wrong place,'" Foolscap sneered down at Gabbro as he fluttered in the air above the red numbskull.
"I don't get it. Boss told me to follow my gut. I looked down, I watched it, and dug," Gabbro told the other Space Pirates. The other three collectively sighed.
"I don't think that Spectre meant literally," Foolscap responded.
"Yeah, my dad said to trust your instincts, not look at your pudgy stomach," Goma rolled his eyes.
"And I thought Spectre told you not to call him 'Dad,' Goma." Sheer teased the shortest pirate.
"Well, he's not here. He's not the boss of me," Goma crossed out his arms and puffed out his cheeks.
"You wouldn't mind me telling that to the boss, would you?" Foolscap sneered. Goma tensed up and swiveled to face the blue tinted pirate.
"No please don't! I take it back!" Goma hurried said. Suddenly, the sounds of bullets ricocheting off of nearby trees and rocks caught the attention of the Space Pirates. They briefly looked between each other before they decided to investigate.
The man that Jim was with took the charge in leading the direction that he, Jim, and Zoe were running. Jim still held on tightly to Zoe's wrist. At some point, Paris had jumped into Zoe's arms as the girl was not carrying the Parasaurolophus.
"Where are we running?" Zoe asked the boy again.
"Away from the British Army!" Jim responded.
"Can you at least slow down for Max, Ren, and Rex?" Zoe complained.
Speaking about the D-Team, Ren, Rex, and Max weren't too much further behind the first trio. However, if they shouted, they were within earshot of each other.
"Come on! Wait up!" Max called after them.
"Who are those kids anyway?" Jim inquired. He stole a glance over his shoulder at the D-Team behind them.
"Them? They're my friends!" Zoe replied.
"Ah, friends!" Jim smiled before speeding up even quicker. Zoe inhaled sharply as she was then forced to keep up with Jim's newfound burst of energy and speed.
"They have got to slow down!" Rex grimaced. Shots were fired at them from behind once more, causing Ren to dive on top of Max and Rex to get them to get down to take cover. The three of them crawled over to a ditch where the slid down and took cover. It turns out the Jim and Zoe were already taking shelter here with their backs leaning against the ledge.
"Should we make a run for it?" Max asked the others.
"Let's stay put until the stop shooting," Rex answered. Ren nodded to her brother's statement.
"Sounds like a good idea to me," she told him. Jim turned to look to Zoe.
"Are you okay?" The momentarily newest addition to the group of kids asked. Zoe looked at Jim and blinked in confusion. She didn't understand why he was so focused on her.
"Yeah, I think so," Zoe responded.
"Jim, what's going on?" Max asked the kid. Apparently, this question was completely unreasonable as Jim visibly became frustrated with Max asking the question.
"Hey, back off, alright?" He hissed. Max, Rex, and Ren looked between each other, almost startled by the boy's hostility.
"Hey, he was just-" Ren began before a voice cut her off.
"Jim, this way," the man from earlier that Jim was with piped up. He had scouted ahead for a route to take and make sure that it was safe while telling the boy to stay put. The man turned and headed down the trail that he had found. Without hesitation, all of the kids stood up and followed after him.
The group began along a trail along the side of a hill that had been carved out at some point in the past. It was unclear to what had made this path or the crater that had been impressed into the ground there. Perhaps there was once a small lake, or maybe someone had created a rather large hole in the ground. As the group was walking along, the man stepped on a large root which he previously knew from his scouting could support his weight as he descended down the side of a large carved out hill. However, just as he stepped down, a bullet was fired, hitting the root that he was supporting his weight on. The man tumbled downwards towards the ground below.
"Dad!" Jim hollered after the man, who is now identified as Jim's father. Jim's dad landed harshly on the ground below, but for the most part seemed uninjured. Laughter erupted seeing the man fall.
"At last, you're trapped and there's no escape!" The voice rang. This was a different voice than the captain of the British Army. In fact, it wasn't British at all, but it was more or less Scandinavian.
"No escape! No escape!" A croaky voice repeated the last two words from the first voice. Jim, his father, and the D-Team looked in the direction of the voice to see a parrot turning circles around the center of a swath of the typical, everyday pirate. Stepping up to the front of the line was a man with long, blonde hair with a smirk on his face and a bandana tied around the top of his head. The parrot landed firmly on his shoulder.
"Pirates ready? Charge!" He ordered. With a symphony of "Aye's" and "Argh's, the pirates surrounding this central figure ran into the crater with their swords at the ready.
"Charge yourself! I give the orders!" A firmer, raspier voice hissed at the man as he got kicked into the crater from behind. The parrot fluttered off of that man's shoulders and return to the trusty shoulder of this new voice.
"Blackbeard gives orders! Blackbeard gives orders!" The parrot squawked. Pirates surrounded and confined Jim's father. They constrained his arms to behind his back with a rope.
"Dad!" Jim hollered before the path above. He bounded into action, getting ready to slide down the side of the crater to save his father. However, He was stopped by the D-Team, pulling him back up to the trail by his arms.
"Stop, they'll capture you too!" Max told Jim. However, the boy wasn't wanting to listen to what Max had to say. With a scowl, Jim turned towards the D-Team that were holding him back.
"Let me go! I have to save him!" Jim hissed at them.
"Stop, Jim! Listen to them!" Jim's father called from down below. "Run away from here!"
"Don't run. Fight for your old man," The leader of the pirates, known as Blackbeard, tested the boy. "When I was your age, I was wrestling sea serpents with me bare hands."
"Blackbeard's the greatest! Blackbeard's the greatest!" The parrot boasted.
"Don't fall for that, Jim. It's obviously a trap," Rex scowled at the pirates.
"If Blackbeard's so tough," Max began.
"Let's see how he does against Toril/Taiga!" Max and Ren said in unison. Both kids were already ready to go with their dinosaur cards in hand.
"Dino slash! Go, Torosaurus! CHARGE!" Max called out as he extended his arm straight out in front of him and swiped the card into the slot on the Dino Bracer.
"Dino slash! Surf's up, Ampelosaurus!" Ren hollered as she bent her arm vertically in front of her and slashed her card in the slot carrying the motion out in front of her face. The full sized Torosaurus and Ampelosaurus appeared in front of the pirates and roared ferociously at them. The pirates cowered in fear from the giant beasts.
"Woah, that's cool!" Jim gaped at the dinosaurs that had suddenly appeared. He looked from Ren and Max with admiration. He caught himself staring with his sights lingering on Ren. Jim shook his head hastily and looked back down to the dinosaurs that were causing his attackers to fear.
"Let Jim's father go now," Max demanded of the pirates.
"If you don't, let's just say we won't have to find lunch for Toril and Taiga here," Ren scoffed down at the pirates. The pirates that were down in the crater scattered and scrambled to climb out. They did not want to be stuck down there any longer with those monsters. Despite the fact that his men were fleeing for their lives, Blackbeard looked rather smug. He held a pistol in his hand and lowered it to aim as Taiga, then at Toril, moving his aim slowly between the two.
"I have battled the ocean's most terrifying creatures, and every one of them I've destroyed," Blackbeard told the kids. "I'm not afraid of this monster."
"Blackbeard's the toughest! Blackbeard's the toughest!" The parrot cheered.
"Is he serious?" Max was almost in shock that he wasn't even fazed by the appearance of Toril and Taiga.
"I think so," Zoe commented.
"I think we may need to rethink our strategy," Rex thought aloud.
Before any further conversation between the group of children could be made, a bullet was fired towards their direction, only barely missing Rex's feet by a few inches and sinking into the ground below. The group flinched and looked in the direction that the bullet had originated from.
Standing on the other side of the crater were the same group of men in red uniforms that the crew was running away from earlier. It seems as if though the British Army had caught up to them.
"This British Army found us again," Ren said with her voice full of concern.
"Shooting at us," Zoe observed. "Why aren't they shooting at the pirates?"
Jim scowled, but his father called out his name and caught his attention. The boy looked down to his father who was still stuck down in the crater.
"Jim, you must get away. It's your mission now," Jim's father told the boy. Jim looked as if his heart skipped a few beats. However, he recovered and nodded firmly to his dad.
"Yes, Dad. I promise. I'll succeed," Jim bravely told his father. Jim looked to the D-Team, before he started to sprint down the trail. "Come on, now!"
The D-Team was not hesitant to follow the boy as he ran from the scene. Max and Ren quickly poked buttons on their Dino Bracers.
"Toril/Taiga, return!" The two of them called as they turned their dinosaurs back into cards and followed behind the others.
"Good luck," Jim's father says softly as he watches the kids run off. With the dinosaurs gone, the pirates refill the crater and begin to search the person of Jim's dad. Blackbeard soon joins them.
"Captain, it's not here," one of the pirate lackeys tells Blackbeard.
"What do you mean it's not here? He has it! Find it!" Blackbeard scowled at his men.
"Blackbeard!" The head of the British Army called down towards the pirate captain. Blackbeard swiveled as he turned to face up towards the captain of the British Army. "It seems you caught our man. Now hand him over. That map belongs to me."
"Search as hard as you want, you won't find anything on me!" Jim's father boldly stated to the two differing parties.
"I've wrestled live sharks for their teeth! I'll wrestle that map out of you!" Blackbeard waved a fist in front of Jim's dad's face.
"If he doesn't have it, then the kid you let get away has it!" The head of the British Army hissed angrily upon the realization. This comment made Blackbeard turn back towards facing him.
"I did not let him get away. You shot at him," Blackbeard defended himself.
"I wouldn't have needed to shoot at him if you would have just taken him prisoner like you should have!" The head of the army argued back.
"If he has the treasure map to the blue jewel, we'll find him," Blackbeard retorted. It was clear that these two men did not get along with each other. However, it was also clear that they were both after the same thing: a map that led to some sort of treasure.
"Blue jewel? Sounds like what we're looking for," A familiar female voice called down to the two bickering parties from the air. The colonial soldiers and the pirates looked upwards to see four monster aliens with wings hovering in the air. All four had smirks on their faces. The voice had come from Sheer.
"Pirates, get ready for battle," Blackbeard ordered as the four creatures lowered themselves towards the ground.
"Oh, we're ready for battle all right," Gabbro responded.
"He wasn't talking to us. He was talking to his own soldiers," Goma rolled his eyes. He cuffed his hands around his mouth before calling down to the so-called pirates. "You think you're pirates? I seen kittens act tougher than you!"
"Let's show them the real think, shall we?" Foolscap snickered.
The D-Team and Jim were walking alongside the bank of a river the ran through the island. This river would eventually end up dumping out into the sea that surrounded the island. Max and Rex took the lead while Jim asked that he walked beside Zoe. Ren ended up somewhere in the middle.
"You know, Zoe? You're an amazing girl," Jim complimented.
"Really? Why?" Zoe responded.
"Well for starters, you have a dragon as a pet," Jim told her.
"Paris is a dinosaur, not a dragon. Taiga, Ace, and Toril are all dinosaurs too! Aren't they cute?" Zoe smiled as she watched the dinosaurs play together as they bounded along beside the group.
"Yeah, Taiga's alright and the other two are ok, but I still like yours the best," Jim replied.
"How can you say that when you haven't even seen Paris' powers yet?" Zoe questioned him.
"Paris does have some pretty cool abilities. There's Nature's Blessing and Metal Wing for starters," Ren chimed in the conversation as she walked nonchalantly right in front of the duo.
"Really? That's so cool!" Jim beamed a bright smile at Zoe. Max then turned to face Jim.
"If you think those are cool, you gotta get Zoe to show you the one called Spring Awakening!" Max added.
"Doesn't he know he's interrupting our private conversation?" Jim asked Zoe as he puffed out his cheeks.
"Oh, it was private?" Zoe meekly muttered.
"You didn't seem to mind when I joined in," Ren raised an eyebrow at Jim.
"Yeah? Well... You're-You're different!" Jim retorted to the blonde. Ren looked to Max and Rex then back at Zoe. All four of them shared the same confused expression.
"Not like it matters. We're right here. We can hear everything you're saying," Rex responded calmly.
"Then why don't you two give us some space!" Jim scowled. His comment was directed at Max and Rex.
"I assume I'm again excluded from that remark because I'm 'different?'" Ren made air quotations with her fingers as she rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, I don't mind if you join in this conversation," Jim told Ren.
"What?" Max snapped.
"Well, before we give you some space, we would like to know why all of these British soldiers and pirates are chasing you," Rex said to Jim.
"That's actually none of your business," Jim said as he stuck his nose in the air and turned slightly away from Rex and Max.
"I know I would feel better if you told us," Zoe frowned at Jim.
"And so would I," Ren added. Jim gulped. He turned towards them with a big grin on his face.
"Well for you, I'd be more than happy to tell the whole story," Jim told the girls. Ren and Zoe once and exchanged puzzled glances. Meanwhile, Rex and Max exchanged glances of their own filled with irritation.
"It took my father and me two months to cross the ocean," Jim began. He paced away from the group.
"That's a long time," Zoe commented.
"Not when your entire village is counting on you," Jim continued. The D-Team found a log nearby and sat down as Jim had his back faced towards them and looked off into the boundless sea. "You see, my father and I were sent here on a mission..."
"But then, on the first night, the pirates attacked without warning," Jim narrated.
"Help! Fire! Everyone, abandon ship!" A voice on the ship had called out. Jim was sleeping on board in a hammock. Jim was awoken by the warning scream and the smell of smoke that had filled the boat. He rushed towards his father's cabin and threw open the doors.
"Father!" Jim cried out. His father ran up to him. The wood around them was already beginning to catch flame. Jim's father had a pistol in his hand.
"Jim! It's a pirate attack!" The man informed his son. Together, the father and son duo made it to the deck of the ship. The smoke was so thick that it was challenging to see through it.
"A thousand tentacles of the sea have all whispered that you have what I want," a voice rang out amidst the smoke. The smoke began to clear around the figure and Blackbeard was standing there, ready to fight for the map. Jim and his father looked at the pirate in horror. "Hand it over and you might be spared!"
Jim and his father took frantic glances around the deck of the ship. Crewmembers and pirates were locked in battle in any and all directions around them. Several crewmembers who didn't know how to fight were throwing themselves overboard to escape both the pirates and the fire that was slowly engulfing the ship in flames.
"There's no escaped possible for you or your boy," Blackbeard sneered down at Jim's father. The man looked down momentarily at his son before the pistole in his hand. However, the pistol was a bluff that he had on hand. There were no bullets inside of it. So instead, he threw the gun as hard as he could at Blackbeard's face. As the pirate captain held his face in pain, Jim's father took his son by the hand.
"Come on, Jim!" He told the boy before making a dash for the edge of the boat. The duo jumped into the sea and began to swim towards the nearby island.
"The pirates burnt everything, but still didn't get what they were after. We swam away from the wreckage, where we thought we'd be safe," Jim narrated once more. "But instead, we were attacked by the British Army who wanted the same thing as the pirates! We were chased into the jungle, and we ran all day. I could barely go on. The soldiers where closing in when-"
Jim and his father came to a halt as a loud roar was heard piercing through the jungle. The Edmontonia stood before the duo and their eyes widened. Now there was something new to be running from.
"The dragon appeared! Er- I mean dinosaur," Jim took a breath as he turned back to face the D-Team. "Now my dad's captured, and I have to complete the mission, and I'm all alone."
"No, you're not, Jim," Max told the kid. "If you tell us want your mission is, we can help you."
"Please, Jim. We want to know," Ren added onto Max's plea.
"Why did you and your dad sail clear across the ocean?" Zoe also added. Jim frowned and glared into the sand beneath his shoes.
"People in my village are sick, and there's a jewel that has healing power. We have a map. It will tell us where to dig for the jewel," Jim informed the D-Team.
"You're looking for buried treasure?" Zoe asked.
"Awesome!" Max cheered.
"Yeah, looking for buried treasure does seem pretty fun," Ren agreed as she smiled to Max.
"It's just like in the movie Treasure Chest!" Max was brimming with excitement.
"Except this is a Caribbean Island with British soldiers and pirates, and there's no pretty movie star waiting to be saved by a hero," Rex told Max.
"I could be a heroine if you want me to be," Ren jokingly replied.
"Really?" Max cheered with a big smile. "In that case I call being the hero! Heroes are the coolest role!"
"No, we're on a mission," Ren's attitude was a complete turnaround as she frowned at Max. "I was joking."
"Speaking about soldiers and pirates, this jewel has to be the thing that everyone is looking for and the reason they're all fighting," Rex thought aloud as he went through each party that was looking for this gem. There's Jim and his dad who want it to heal the sick people at their village. There's Blackbeard's pirates and the British Army who are constantly fighting over it who want it for some unknown idea. Then because of the Edmontonia earlier, the D-Team could deduct that the Spectral Space Pirates were also likely here in search of this jewel.
"But the only way of finding the jewel is by using the map, right?" Max responded.
"Too bad we don't know where it is," Ren responded as she folded her arms.
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure Jim's dad has it," Rex told his sister and his best friend.
"Which in turns means Blackbeard and his pirates have the map," Max frowned.
"And they're probably already digging for the treasure and can find it any second," Rex added on. The trio frowned as they began to brainstorm some ideas to get the map back or how they could find Blackbeard and his pirates.
"Well, I say what are we still standing around for? We have to at least go find those pirates before they get to the treasure," Ren told the boys.
"Good idea! Did you hear that, Jim?" Max asked. He looked around. There was no Jim in sight. "Huh? There's no Jim around."
"Or Zoe for that matter," Ren growled.
Zoe and Jim stood on a ledge that overlooked the ocean. Zoe was confused. Jim had told her that there was something that he needed to talk to her about in private, but she didn't know why they had to walk so far away from the rest of the group in order to do so.
"Jim, why are we all the way out here?" Zoe asked him one more time. She'd been asking him where they were going the entire way to this spot.
"Well, this was tough for me to do, but I made up my mind," Jim began.
"Made up your mind, what does that mean?" Zoe responded.
"Well, both you and Ren are great girls and all, but well," Jim looked from the ground to back at Zoe. "I wanted to ask you if you wanted to be my girlfriend."
"Jim I- I don't know what to say," Zoe said with an uncomfortable tone in her voice. Both her and Ren? Was Jim trying to go after them both?
"Say yes! Zoe, I like you. The choice was hard. but I decided that I like you more than any girl I ever met," Jim continued.
"That's sweet, Jim, but we don't even know each other," Zoe replied.
"I feel like we know each other like a fish knows the sea. Like how the sun knows the grass. Like how a bird knows the sky." Jim told Zoe. He took a step closer to her and placed his hands on her shoulders. "Zoe, I have the treasure map. Together we can dig it up and we can save my village! I feel like destiny has brought us together."
"Destiny?" Zoe looked at Jim almost as if he were crazy.
"Oh no, did I just make a fool of myself? I think I overdid it. Oh no, Zoe, do you hate me now?" Jim's face began to turn a bright red out of embarrassment.
"No, that was actually kind of flattering," Zoe replied
"Maybe I got a little carried away," Jim admitted. He took his hands off of Zoe. "I'm sorry, I'll be quiet now."
"It's okay, Jim," Zoe began. "You have an awful lot going on right now. You have to rescue your dad and find the buried treasure."
"So that I can save my village, you're right!" Jim said sternly. It seems that his love crazy phase was over almost as quickly as it began.
"Good then. So, what do you say? Let's go back and find the others so we can get this done together," Zoe told the boy.
"It won't be easy," Jim confessed as he looked down to the ground.
"Zoe!" Rex's voice broke the two's conversation. Jim and Zoe snapped their heads in the direction of the voice. However, they didn't see Rex, or anybody else from the D-Team. It's more than likely that the team was just looking for them
"Hey!" Max's voice hollered out next.
"Where are you?" Ren added.
"Hey, you guys guess what?" Zoe hollered out to them. "We have the map!"
"How nice of you to tell us," A deeper, more sinister voice replied. Coming from the forest and quickly blocking and confining Jim and Zoe to the ledge of the cliff were Blackbeard and his pirates. Jim and Zoe backed up away from the pirates, but they just kept getting closer until the two kids were almost right at the edge of the cliff.
Max, Rex, and Ren were walking along in the forest looking around for Jim and Zoe. Just then, the trees started rustling and the ground started rumbling around them.
"I think I'm getting Deja vu," Ren frowned as she looked around. Almost as if it were perfectly on cue as if it were waiting on the scenes for its entrance, the Edmontonia emerged and stood in front of the three kids.
"Where do you think you're going?" Gabbro asked the kids as he flew right above the Edmontonia.
"Nowhere, that's where!" Goma sneered followed by a laugh as he appeared beside Gabbro.
"You guys...," Max gulped as he stared up at the large dinosaur.
"Ace and I can handle this," Rex said as he began to ready-up his Dino Bracer. "Ren, you and Taiga go help Zoe."
"Right," Ren nodded to her brother and darted off.
"Dino slash! Carnotaurus, blow them away!" Rex called as he held his arm straight out in front of him and swiped his card into the slot on his Dino Bracer. Ace appeared in his attack mode and was ready to battle. Ace charged straight in at the Edmontonia and successfully hit it on the side of the head.
"You can't compete with Spectral Armor!" Gabbro told Rex as the pirate took the monochromatic Edmontonia card and placed it against the hexagonal shape strapped to his chest. The earth elemental dinosaur began to shine from the emblem on his forehead before being engulfed by the light. After the light disappeared, the Edmontonia was covered in the specialized Spectral Armor plates.
"Maybe not alone, but together we will win!" Max piped up. He poked some buttons on his Dino Bracer as he turned Toril into a card. "Dino slash! Go, Torosaurus! CHARGE!"
Toril appeared on the battlefield beside Ace ready to battle. Rex and Max looked at each other and shared a confident smile.
"Two against one? That's no fair. How about I even the odds?" Goma smirked. He took a dinosaur card and placed it against the hexagon emblem on his chest plate. In seconds a Mapusaurus appeared and roared. "For extra flavor, how about a little Spectral Armor?"
Goma then took the grayscale version of his Mapusaurus card and placed it over his emblem. The Mapusaurus began to glow the same color all of the other Spectral Space Pirate dinosaurs do. Just like with the Edmontonia, when the light cleared, Mapusaurus was wearing Spectral Armor.
"You ready, Max?" Rex asked his best friend.
"You bet, Rex," Max replied with a wide grin. Both of the boys took their DinoTectors from their Dino Gadgets. "Element Booster!"
"DinoTector on!" The two both synchronized as they slid the DinoTector onto their Dino Bracers. Both Toril and Ace began to glow their respective colors for their element. When the light had vanished, both of the dinosaurs were geared up with armor that was designed like their element.
Jim and Zoe continued to stand near the edge of the cliff over the ocean while Blackbeard and his pirates cornered them there. Blackbeard looked directly at Jim.
"Look, kid. It's either give us the map or walk the plank," Blackbeard sneered.
"Max! Rex! Ren!" Zoe called out for her friends, hopeful that they could hear her.
"Your little friends aren't coming to save you. This island is so big that they probably can't even hear you," Blackbeard scoffed. Zoe froze as she heard those words.
"But I just heard them!" Zoe reasoned.
"Oh, did you like that?" Blackbeard asked just as his parrot swooped in and landed on his shoulder. "Impersonations is just one of the many tricks I taught my parrot to know."
"Blackbeard's the smartest! Blackbeard's the smartest!" The parrot squawked. Jim and Zoe scowled back at Blackbeard. So, they really did just announce to the pirates that they had the map.
"Well, you're not getting anything!" Zoe hissed at Blackbeard.
"Yeah? You know what we do to noisy girls?" Blackbeard looked down on the pink haired girl. "Throw them into the shark pool!"
"And what I do to people you threaten me, is have them say hello to Paris," Zoe snarked back. However, right before Zoe could summon Paris, a different voice could be heard summoning a dinosaur.
"Dino slash! Surf's up, Ampelosaurus!" Ren's voice chimed out.
"Ren!" Zoe turned and smiled to see her friend. The pirate lackeys began to shriek in fear once they saw Taiga moving towards them. Jim stepped in front of Zoe to face off with Blackbeard.
"Look, Blackbeard! No one threatens Zoe, you got that?" Jim angrily shouted. Blackbeard's eyes darted from the quickly approaching dinosaur to the kids in front of him.
"Give me the map or both of you will walk the plank right now!" Blackbeard scowled at them. In a blink of an eye, Jim scooped up a handful of sand and threw it in Blackbeard's face. As Blackbeard winced and tried to get the sand out of his eyes, Jim grabbed Zoe's hand and pushed past the pirate captain. They took off down the hill, passing Ren and Taiga on their way.
"Try to catch us now, losers!" Jim called over his shoulder back at the pirates.
"Wait, where are you going?" Ren skidded to a halt and watched Jim run off while dragging Zoe behind.
"I have no clue!" Zoe hollered back at Ren.
"I'll catch up! I won't be long!" Ren promised to Zoe right before she and Jim disappeared from view. Ren turned back around to the pirates. "All right, pirates. Let's see how tough you are now."
Blackbeard had just finished getting the sand out of his eyes and scowled at Ren before he rushed right past her and Taiga.
"I have no time for your child's play. Come on, men!" Blackbeard ordered. However, all of the other pirates were cowering in fear from the long-necked dinosaur that stood in their way.
"Seems like to me you're the only one who wants to challenge Taiga, here," Ren smirked to the pirate captain.
"Whatever, I'll get that map myself if it's the last thing I do," Blackbeard told her as he rushed down the hill following in the direction that Jim and Zoe had run off in.
"Hey! Get back here!" Ren yelled after him. "Come on, Taiga."
With that, Ren followed after Blackbeard with Taiga in tow and full sized leaving the cowering pirates behind them and in their dust. There was one thing Ren knew she couldn't do, and that was to allow Blackbeard to get his hands on that map.
During the battle with Ace and Toril versus Edmontonia and Mapusaurus, Ace lands a direct hit on Edmontonia making the bulky Ankylosaur fly backwards. Toril was butting head with Mapusaurus, ultimately ending with Toril having the upper hand.
"It's time to throw in the towel," Rex said.
"That's what you think!" Goma retorted.
"I don't have a towel, but I do have another dinosaur," Gabbro told Rex.
"Another one?" Max complained. Gabbro took out another dinosaur card and swiped it over the emblem on his chest. Soon enough, a Diceratops joins the battle, putting the numbers in the Space Pirates' favor.
"Spectral Armor!" Gabbro announces as he uses the monochromatic version of the Diceratops card to apply Spectral Armor to his Diceratops.
"Ah man, now we're out numbered!" Max told Rex.
Perfectly on cue, a beam of light rained down from the sky right next to the D-Team. Materializing from the light was the Alpha Gang. They looked around, filled with confusion.
"This isn't the beach; this is a battle!" Zander excalimed.
"Let's join in!" Dr. Z cheered with a small maniacal laugh. He pulled an Alpha Scanner from his lab coat and the dinosaur card newest fire elemental dinosaur to their team, Phoenix the Acrocanthosaurus. "Alpha slash!"
Once Dr. Z slashed the move card, the large fire lizard appeared on the battle. The Alpha Gang looked up at their new powerhouse and frowned.
"It's not the same without Terry," Ed whined.
"Stop reminding me!" Zander cried.
"If both of you don't stop crying about Terry, I'll give you something else to cry about!" Ursula screeched at Ed and Zander. Despite her temper, Ursula was also missing the Tyrannosaurus.
"DinoTector on!" Dr. Z called out as he held the fire element booster in his hand. He equipped it to the Alpha Scanner. Phoenix became engulfed by flames. A red light shone from his forehead. Just then, flames spewed out from Phoenix's shoulder, the base of his tail, and the tops of his legs. These places the flames seemed to morph to become hard. The flames turned into armor and resembled fire.
"Go get 'em, Phoenix! You have some big footprints to fill, so blast them with your heat!" Dr. Z told the Acrocanthosaurus. Phoenix charged in towards the Diceratops with a mighty roar.
"Speaking about heat, can we go to the beach now?" Urusula asked Dr. Z.
"Yeah, there's only a couple hours of sunlight left," Zander informed the elderly inventor.
"And I wanna see if I can catch a fish, or a lobster, or maybe some clams or something," Ed added on.
"How can you three think about the beach when one of my dinosaurs is in the middle of a battle?" Dr. Z screeched at the three goons of the Alpha Gang.
Jim ran along the beach still dragging Zoe behind him. Paris was bounding alongside them almost struggling to keep up with the pace that Jim was running at and pulling Zoe along. At this point, Blackbeard had just about gotten caught up with the two kids. Ren and Taiga weren't too far behind, but they still had quite the distance to make up.
"You're only making it worse for yourself," Blackbeard warned the two kids.
"Oh yeah?" Jim asked brashly from over his shoulder at Blackbeard. "You'll never catch me I'm way fast-"
Jim's cocky reply was cut short due to him tripping over his feet from not looking where he was going. Zoe was also dragged down and tumbled forward as a result of Jim's fall. Blackbeard saw his opportunity and took it as he pounced on top of the young boy pinning him down into the sand.
"I got you now. And now I'm gonna get that treasure map!" Blackbeard told the boy.
"You're never going to get that map!" Jim said as she struggled to wriggle free from Blackbeard's hold, but it was no use.
"Jim!' Zoe exclaimed. She bounced onto her feet and rushed over towards Blackbeard and tried to pull the pirate captain off of her new friend.
"Get off of me you brat," Blackbeard told Zoe as he effortlessly pushed the pink-haired girl off of him. However, this stunt angered a certain Parasaurolophus. Paris, still in her chibi form, charged in at Blackbeard and headbutted him right in the chest. Blackbeard grunted as he recoiled. Just then, another pair of arms grabbed Blackbeard from behind, attempting to hold him back. It was Ren.
"Get off of him," Ren growled. Ren wasn't able to completely hold off Blackbeard, but her attempt combined with Paris' tackle was enough to give Jim the wiggle room that he needed to crawl out from underneath the pirate. As soon as Jim stood to his feet, his pants fell around his ankles revealing the bloomers he had on underneath. Jim quickly pulled his pants back up to his waist. Blackbeard snickered as he held Jim's belt firmly in his grasp. He peeled away the map that was stuck to the backside of the belt.
"A classic hiding place for beginning treasure hunters," Blackbeard said with confidence knowing that he now held the location to the buried treasure within his grasp.
"Give it back!" Jim shouted as he leapt onto Blackbeard from the front. Blackbeard stayed standing and he help the map up into the air so the kids couldn't nab it away from him. Ren then latched onto Blackbeard from behind. Seeing the opportunity to take Blackbeard down, Zoe went for his feet. Blackbeard fell to the ground with the map sticking up into the air. Paris jumped and snatched the map out of Blackbeard's hand in midair. The Parasaurolophus began to take off with the map in her mouth. She spotted Taiga in the distance, just now started to arrive on the scene and ran towards her.
"Good work, Paris!" Zoe cheered. The three kids held back Blackbeard as he tried to push past them to chase after Paris who was running towards Taiga.
However, bursting between the Parasaurolophus and the Ampelosaurus was a battle emerging from the trees and bushes. Ace got thrown back towards the beach from the force of Goma's Mapusaurus which bounded onto the beach after the Carnotaurus. Gabbro's Diceratops and Phoenix came out next locked in a battle of their own. They were soon followed by Toril and the Edmontonia. Gabbro and Goma were the first dinosaur users to exit the forest as their wings and advantage of the sky made it easy for them to be first.
Ren watched the dinosaurs in the battle for just a moment before calling out to her own dinosaur, "Get in there, Taiga! Help the others!"
The Ampelosaurus joined in the fight. It was rather difficult to tell who each dinosaur was fighting between the seven of them in the jumbled up mess. Ren removed the DinoTector from her DinoGadget.
"Element Booster! DinoTector on!" Ren said as she equipped the DinoTector onto her Dino Bracer. A brilliant blue light shone from Taiga's forehead and slowly engulfed the Ampelosaurus. Specs of water seemed to fly off around Taiga as the armor attached itself to the herbivore. Once the light cleared and the armor was formed, it had a pair of shoulder blade armor that stretched towards her mid back, bits of armor down her tail, a couple bits of armor ran down the back of her neck, and the headpiece consisted of two side pieces at the side of her face. All pieces of the armor seemed to resemble waves. Shortly after this, Max and Rex appeared on the scene ready to finish the fight.
"Let's get things moving with a move card," Gabbro told Goma.
"Agreed," the shorter pirated nodded. Both of the Space Pirates took out move cards and placed it on their emblems near their chests.
"Rock Roller," Gabbro announced the move card as he used the Edmontonia's move card.
"Fire Cannon!" Goma proclaimed as he summoned the Mapusaurus move card.
The Edmontonia managed to get a large boulder next to it. The earth dinosaur began to spin around the rock, causing the boulder to rotate rapidly. Once the rock had gained momentum, the Edmontonia bashed into it, sending it flying towards Toril.
The Mapusaurus generated a flaming ball of fire in its mouth. It took aim at Ace before firing it off at the Carnotaurus. Rex and Max reached for their Ultimate Wind and Ultimate Thunder move cards respectively, but they weren't the ones that called out their move card first.
"Ultimate Water!" Ren called as she slashed the ultimate move card into the slot on her Dino Bracer. Taiga roared as geysers erupted from the ground around the Ampelosaurus. These geysers easily extinguished Goma's Fire Cannon attack as the wave pushed Taiga towards the Edmontonia making her run into the earth dinosaur with a ton of force behind the blow. The Edmontonia began to shine red violet before being reduced to its card. It's Rock Roller attack got sent flying into the distance by the wave.
"Good job, Taiga!" Ren called out to the Ampelosaurus. Despite once of the Space Pirate's dinosaurs being taken out, this battle was still far from over. There was still Mapusaurus and Diceratops to take down. Amidst the fighting dinosaurs still in her chibi form with the map in her mouth was Paris. The small Parasaurolophus dodged around stomping feet and swinging tails barely avoiding to get hit in the crossfire.
Meanwhile, Blackbeard was trying to move in towards the battle so he could snatch the map when the small herbivore was least expecting it. However, Max noticed this maneuver and flung himself onto Blackbeard's back, taking the larger pirate down to the ground with him. They landed just a couple of feet from Paris.
"Run, Paris! Get the map somewhere safe!" Max told the Parasaurolophus. Paris darted away and with more confidence, tried to break through the barrage of battling dinosaurus to the other side. Just as it seemed like Paris would have made it through, the hind foot of the Mapusaurus came down and stepped on half of the map. Paris tried to tug on the map to get it free, however the map got torn in half in the process.
"The map got torn in half!" Zoe exclaimed.
"Someone, get the other piece!" Ren called out. Just then, a light shone around Mapusaurus as it was recalled. In a burst of lightning-fast speed, Goma swooped down and snatched the other half of the map. He rejoined Gabbro in the sky and he snickered.
"Don't mind if I do, then," Goma sneered down at Ren.
"He's got the other half of the map!" Max scowled.
"Come on, Gabbro, we got what we need. Let's go," Goma said as he briefly glanced over his half of the map.
"Aw, but the battle was fun getting fun," Gabbro sighed. He recalled his Diceratops, though he didn't look too pleased about doing so. Shortly after that, the two Spectral Space Pirates took off into the sky and quickly out of view.
Blackbeard growled as he could do nothing but watch the flying monsters disappear with half of the map. His sights then locked onto Paris.
"This is all your fault you mangy little-" Blackbeard hissed as he began to charge in at Paris. Before he could reach the Parasaurolophus, a pair of arms had picked her up. Rex held Paris in his arms as he glared at Blackbeard. He wasn't afraid of the pirate captain at all. Why would he be? Three other dinosaurs stood behind Rex, backing him up. Ace, Toril, and Taiga all looked at Blackbeard. They seemed to be threatening him if he wanted to hurt their friends. Blackbeard stopped where he was and scowled back at Rex.
"This isn't over!" Blackbeard turned and ran off into the forest, almost knocking the Alpha Gang over in the process as he did so.
"Watch where you're running!" Dr. Z screamed at Blackbeard. However, the pirate seemed uninterested in what the old man had to say and disappeared into the foliage. The Alpha Gang then turned and then seemed to realize where they were.
"Finally, the beach!" Ursula beamed. Dr. Z's Alpha Scanner began to beep, and he answered it. However, the voice on the other side sounded very unpleased with him.
"Doctor!" Helga yelled through the Alpha Scanner.
"Helga! How did you get this number?" Dr. Z asked.
"Don't play innocent with me! You didn't put on the SPF 80 sunblock lotion! You put on the 15!" Helga told Dr. Z. She held up a move card in front of the camera.
"I didn't know, I swear! I just put on what Ursula gave me! Please don't tear up my move card!" Dr. Z pleaded with the robotic maid. He then turned toward Ursula with a scowl on his face. "This is all your fault!"
"I wanted a tan," Ursula frowned.
"It's alright, Helga, I'm looking onto their coordinates now. I'm bringing them back," Gabriel's voice could be heard on the other end of the Alpha Scanner.
"Aw, they're bringing us back to the ship," Ursula frowned. A bright light swallowed the Alpha Gang and they dematerialized and were whisked away to the Backlander. Jim stared blankly at the spot where the Alpha Gang used to be standing.
"How'd they do that?" the boy asked the D-Team. The other kids looked at each other nervously as they searched for an explanation.
"They," Rex began.
"Are," Ren followed.
"Travelling," Zoe latched more on.
"Cirus people!" Max blurted. The other three looked at Max as if he were crazy.
"Cirus people?" Ren asked Max in a whisper.
"Uh yeah! Cirus people! They're always doing weird tricks like that," Max continued his explanation to Jim.
"Anyways, we have bigger issues to deal with," Rex told the rest of the group. He took the half of the map from Paris before he set the Parasaurolophus onto the ground. "We only have half of the map back."
"Oh no," Jim said as he took the half map from Rex. His eyes studied the half map, almost as if he were searching for something he was missing on the map.
"What is it?" Max asked the boy.
"This is the wrong half," Jim told the D-Team. "The other one has the treasure's location."
The D-Team leaned in to look at the half map that Jim held in his hands. He was right. The complete map had a big, red "X" over the spot the treasure was supposed to be buried. However, the half of the map they were left with had no "X" at all.
"Then we'll just have to get it back," Rex told the rest of the team.
"Right, we'll get that other half of the map back for sure!" Ren agreed.
"Yeah!" Zoe agreed.
"We'll help you, Jim," Max told the boy. Suddenly, the sound of something moving quickly towards them caught the kids' attention. They all looked up from the half map. Rolling towards them was the deflected boulder from the Edmontonia's Rock Roller move. Taiga sent it flying with Ultimate Water, but it landed at the top of a cliff and was now barreling at full speed towards the group of kids! The group screamed as the boulder drew closer.
"Run for it!" Max yelled.
