Hermione ended up with a graceful landing this time. "Damn I'm getting a hang of this pull towards the present I guess". She muttered to herself. By this time she fully expected to try and find Carlisle as she now was convinced he was her soulmate. This time instead of stumbling around to try and find him, she pulled out her wand and whispered: "Point Me". The want moved in one direction, and she shoved it in her pocket attempting to turn to navigate her way around.
She walked through the streets, even as it was dark out, trying at the same time to figure out where in time and space she was in. She noticed it was a different time period but she felt as though it was still Chicago. She would have to wait and see in the morning where she was. The wand shifted to a house, Carlisle's house, Hermione wondered if he still lived there then. A flash of guilt swept through her as she remembered how she left him. The uncertainty of his reaction made her pause at the door. She didn't even know what time it was, but she wasn't a Gryffindor for nothing. She steeled herself and then knocked, as the sound almost sounded loud against the quiet street. Her war sense's tingled and she felt like out of the window she was being watched. But there wasn't anything there, maybe her paranoia was acting up.
"Constant Vengeance!" Alastor Moody's voice shouted at her inside her head.
The door opened to reveal Carlisle. Hermione let out a breath she didn't even know she was holding. He gave a questioned look but proceeded to usher her in. She smiled at him and her eyes relay the mischief of time travel.
"I've been waiting for you to show up, even though I am not quite sure why or how...?" He tried to mutter almost to himself.
"Sorry it took so long," She said slyly.
Carlisle just nodded to himself almost absentmindedly. Then he heard her question, "What is the date?" Confused he asked her to repeat it, giving her head a sweep over for signs of injury. She noticed and shook her head at him as if to indicate that her physical appearance did not answer his questions about her disappearance and reappearances. She stated her question again. He replied, "It's May, 15th". She nodded as if keeping track and then proceeded to ask for the year. He looked at her strangely once again before replying that is was "1921".
He was about to ask even more questions when the door opened. There was a teenage boy who entered the room, not confused at all by what he was witnessing. He had heard it through the door but he was quite curious about her. He had asked Carlisle once if there was a woman that lived in his house before he got there, as he would find more human touches to the house. Carlisle answered his questions honestly but only once, as it was still quite confusing to him and it hurt to think about.
Hermione turned to the teenager who had walked into the room. She smiled and apologized for barging into their house at night. Carlisle just shook his head as if to dismiss her apology and gave the formal introductions.
"Hermione this is Edward, he is now my son, the teenager from when we last spoke..." Carlisle had drifted off almost in memory, before quickly finishing the introduction "Edward this is Ms. Granger..." He paused unsure what to call her. She just quickly put a hand out to shake Edward's hand and introduced herself stating that she knew his father from here and there. Carlisle nodded to her introduction and asked her where she was staying. Hermione taking this as a dismissal stated she had an address somewhere. He quickly offered up the spare room in the house, as it was late out and he would worry. Hermione laughed and almost said no, as she felt that would intrude. But Carlisle insisted and told her which room to turn to down the hall.
Edward and Carlisle had a discussion as she left to go sort out the living arrangements.
"Father? Who is she? Is she the woman you think about?" Edward quietly asked, much to quiet for a human to hear anyway.
"Yes, yes she is. I wonder why she was asking about the date...She hasn't changed one bit since she disappeared but we both can tell she isn't like one of us..." Carlisle trailed off again in thought.
"I couldn't read her mind," Edward said frustratedly.
"What?" Carlisle questioned as Edward hadn't run across that problem yet. This created even more of the enigma of Hermione Granger. He yearned to know more about her and how this kept happening. Still, he was almost giddy with joy that she accepted his offer because that entitled knowing more about her and seeing the woman he loved once more.
"Yes, I don't know why but I'm not sure how that happens," Edward wondered as he read his Father's mind. He saw flashes of the woman called Hermione every once in a while from his vampire patriarch.
"Well, there isn't anything to do about it now. We just have to pretend to be human," Carlisle finalized even before he truly thought about it.
The next morning, Hermione woke bright and early. She remembered where she was and when she was and more importantly, who she was with. She smiled and proceeded to walk out to the hall, there was breakfast on the table. She laughed silently as her memories took her to the idea that it was almost like there was a house elf there. Her views on house elves after Winky and a few other house elves explained that a bond between a wizard and the elf was important to them. Now she worked on advocating for fair treatment of all magical creatures and it seemed that was a better solution. Carlisle joined her in the dining room and explained that Edward would be done soon as well.
"How have you been since I last saw you?" Hermione asked, almost guilt-ridden once again.
"Oh, work has kept me busy, and now I have a son," Carlisle practically boasted.
As they were catching up, Edward came down from his room. Hermione noticed her shields being poked at but said nothing. She didn't want to alarm him but also thought that if he wanted to ask her something, he could do it verbally. Edward remained puzzled by Hermione's brain.
She sighed as she knew she was going to have to explain soon enough why she kept disappearing and reappearing. But she too wanted answers on if Carlisle, and she supposed Edward were vampires. It had clicked during her time warp to ask as she had met the vampire from the Slug Club.
