Hi everyone! I didn't do my research as much as I normally do for this chapter. So if there is inconsistency with historical facts oops. :) I enjoy reading all of your comments. I have a general idea of where the plot is headed but reading the ideas and questions you have lets me know to clarify or add ideas in so big thanks! :)
Hermione was relieved when Emse left, it felt like a big sigh of relief, even if she was polite enough not to verbally say it. The family was also glad she was gone but they didn't voice it so as not to offend Carlisle. But the next thing on the agenda was the werewolf she saw in the woods.
Hermione decided to discuss the details with the family of what was going to happen. How was the family going to keep a cover and what to do about the werewolf pack? Hermione assumed that there was a pack rather than the lone wolf. The family decided to enroll in school and start work at the hospital with the understanding once they got too suspicious they would leave to another location. She didn't want to put down permanent roots just in case she was thrown into time.
Carlisle was in the woods when he was approached by a wolf. Shaggy mangy hair with a large body, much bigger than an average canine, who growled with a low warning rumble. It dropped something onto the earth's floor before rushing off out of sight. Curious Carlisle picked it up. It had a note that read "Meeting tomorrow night. Midnight. If you bring your pack we will bring ours. We don't want bloodshed but we will attack if threatened." There was no signature, but it wasn't as if there needed to be. Carlisle rushed home. The urgency of a meeting was all he thought about in hopes that Edward would hear him and inform the others.
Edward had heard his dad's thoughts when Carlisle got into a smaller range still rushing towards the house. He called the family and one by one they trickled into the living room.
Carlisle wasted no time blurting out "Hermione is right. There is a pack of them. They want to meet us tomorrow at midnight."
He took a look around the room once he dropped the news. Rosaline looked concerned and she placed her hands on Emmet to signify she was worried for him. Emmet clasped her hands into his. He too was worried but tried not to show it for the sake of his love. Edward balled up his fists with an angry grim face etched onto his marbled skin. Hermione was the only one who looked calm. She had been ready for this. Her fighting background kept her calm. While the others had been adjusting to school and Carlisle adjusted to working as a doctor at the hospital, Hermione had been planning.
Carlisle saw the look on her face, almost serene look, and knew something was up. The rest of the family turned to her once they saw their father's gaze. Hermione cleared her throat and whipped out a chalkboard out of thin air.
"I've expected something like this to happen since I first saw the werewolf. First of all, they are not classified as traditional werewolves. They are a sub-breed of shapeshifters. Not exactly metamorphoses who can change appearance but they change their physical form to something else. Typically an animal that explains the wolf form. They can not pick what animal they choose to be. But so far I can only pick up the magical signature of the wolf. Hence why I told you not to hunt the wolves here. They seem to be territorial and probably want to ensure they won't get eaten. I do not know how aggressive they can be for I have known quite aggressive werewolves and the most docile werewolf, eh well when he remembered to take his potion. I suspect we will want to come up with a contract or treaty of some kind that allows there to be harmony still between you two. I have drafted a few different contracts that we can try to give to the pack and see if they agree. Take a look. Some of the clauses are about hunting lines that can not be crossed by either side, some are that there is intermingling between the family and the pack and there are some with no contact. We shall see which ones we like and which ones they will agree too. Therefore we are not bumping into each other and starting a war. There has been enough blood spilled to last lifetimes between magical creatures and beings."
The Cullens sat in silence, almost comical with everyone perfectly still. Hermione felt like she was standing at the Art Institute or the Louvre instead of in her home looking at sculptures. She stood waiting for verbal or nonverbal confirmation that her family understood. They nodded almost in unison, Emmett was off by a half-second with his bobbing head. Hermione let the first smile out since Carlisle came home.
"You aren't coming through, right?" Carlisle asked with concern laced in his velvet voice. Hermione raised her eyebrow. "Of course I am going. I want to study this pack. And I can protect myself if need be. I've taken down werewolves before." Now it was Carlisle's turn to raise an eyebrow. But he knew he would not win arguing about her protection and conceded to her points. Hermione merely smiled and flicked the chalkboard away.
The Cullens were up and moving about the house after the meeting concluded. Carlisle was in his office looking over Hermione's contract. He smiled lightly as he read, it wasn't the content that really made him smile but, it was the fact that his witch was brilliant. He went to go find her to show her the version of the contracts he approved of. Hermione was sitting in the front yard. She had conjured up a chair and was sipping her tea with the sun gently on her.
Carlisle approached her as if one would approach a goddess. "My dear, I think two of these contracts would work perfectly. I will submit these two in hopes that the pack will accept one of them." Hermione smiled at him and gave him a soft peck on the lips. "Good. I have a good feeling about this. It will work out in the end. I love you."
"I love you more than you can ever know. But instead of just these words, let me show you. A night in Paris for dinner or New York for a play? I don't work tomorrow so I want to spend it with you." Hermione grinned at him. "I don't need any of those things to feel loved. You are enough. But let's go to L.A for dinner. I will apparate us there." Carlisle nodded in agreement to the suggestion. While he never appeared anywhere he knew about it as it was one of the first things she showed him about magic.
So while the evening settled in, Hermione and Carlisle were getting ready to go out. She was in a gorgeous dress with short heels and a small clutch. He was in a dapper suit, and a top hat. Hermione grinned when she saw the final look he decided on. Carlisle smiled showing off his white teeth.
"Ah! You look radiant! How lucky am I to have gotten a chance to entertain you this evening." Carlisle crooned.
Hermione blushed and laughed dainty. "It is I who am entranced by you. However, will we get through this evening if I am so enthralled with you."
Carlisle smiled even wider. He offered his arm to her. And she smiled and told him to hold tight, it would be an odd sensation. And they were off to L.A.
They dined at a ritzy hotel where people stopped and openly gawked at the magical couple. Their beauty combined was breathtaking and both felt pure love towards each other. The strangers who stopped to look noticed how he looked like she hung up the moon and the stars, and she looked like he was the one. To see and practically feel that much power and love was special. Like normal, the couple with the attention paid no care, lost in their own world.
"My dear. I love you. I can only hope that you and I end up together without the bouncing around soon. Being able to be yours is beautiful but I am waiting when I can shout it to the rooftops." Carlisle lamented.
"I hope it will be painless for you too once I am done jumping around. I love you and can't wait to wake up to you forever.I am getting homesick for everyone even though I have you and the kids. But I am still quite a while away from me even being born." Hermione conceded.
"True. I will just wait then. I have patience. I only have eternity to spend it with you." Carlisle joked with a familiar twinkle in his eye.
Hermione smiled. "Why I think you just might be my soulmate. Your situation and my situation fits perfectly!"
Both of them laughed, and to the other patrons at the restaurant, it sounded like music.
"Do you think you will add more to the family? Hermione asked without judgment. She was reflecting on the Esme experience with him for the first time since she left.
"I am not sure. If they come to me then I will. Or the circumstance is dire then I feel obligated to help." Carlisle said after a pause.
Hermione nodded. She secretly worried he might save a horrible person but that was in his moral core. And if the person did turn out to be horrible she would take care of it.
Carlisle was thinking about similar thoughts though. He had been lucky based on who he saved. Both pushed those thoughts down for another day.
They had gotten delicious dessert and were now full. Well, Hermione was full. Carlisle just pushed his food around to look like he was eating. Then asked to bag the food for later. Hermione could eat it in the morning.
They left the restaurant hand in hand.
