Agreed! Definitely one of my favorite Mario characters.
nintendoscript15
I wanted to show a "behind the scenes" on how Luigi and the Toads got "lost with [each other]" as they mentioned when Mario found them. So that's why Luigi's debuting this early.
RareDomains
Oh yeah! I forgot I made that reference. Silly me!
The part where Mario lost it was meant to be inspired by my friend, nintendoscript15's version of Mario. And believe me, he has much bigger anger and anxiety issues than mine, so this was nothing. Speaking of nintendoscript15, you can thank him for letting me include Alex and Leah in the story. I thought Mario could use a little kid sidekick or two, since Aqua from my Sunshine story is not returning in this.
Edit: So, I changed that scene with Mario after some backlash from a certain reviewer. Yeah, I went a bit too far with that. Sorry.
Amethyst Goldenwind
Yep. That's what happens when you get so invested in a game. I think a cosmetic start sounds good.
StarlitDuck
Remember the beginning where someone tried to stop Bowser from stealing the stars, only for Bowser to slap him away? That's the OC. I have yet to reveal him though. Just wait a few more chapters.
Nataly Guardado
I mean, collecting stars isn't anything new for Mario, but this is outer space we're talking about. The universe is a VERY big place, so the stars could literally be anywhere. You can't blame him for feeling a little overwhelmed over that.
LiamTheYoshi
Yeah. Almost like a second mother to him. When you've been raising thousands of children for hundreds of years, you grow to be very wise and respectable.
Nintengamer55
Bowser mentioned at the beginning that he got 90 stars. I'll be covering every single star in the game except for the Prankster Comets and the Grand Finale Galaxy. Yep. This'll be a long one. But I hope you join in for the ride.
Chapter 7: Dino Piranha
[BGM: Observation Dome - Super Mario Galaxy]
As Mario stepped inside the Terrace, he just couldn't stop looking around. The interior design of this dome was too amazing not to. The interior walls of the Terrace were blue, and were decorated with white stars pattern, columns and dark-blue castle hills pattern. The ceiling was the same color as the wall decorated with white planets pattern. The white floor's pattern was a golden compass rose surrounded in a light-blue circle and the rest of the floor was a bunch of yellow triangles arranged in a circle. On this room's corner was a lone wooden chair and a telescope. The Terrace certainly lived up to its name, for it was a place where observers could look up at the stars and discover new galaxies. Polari came up to Mario.
"Welcome!" he greeted.
"Woah! How did you get in here so fast?" Mario asked, surprised.
"We lumas have our ways," Luma said.
"This dome acts as an eye of the observatory," Polari explained. "From here, we can gaze upon distant galaxies."
A blue Luma came up to them.
"Once this Luma transforms into a Pull Star, he will guide you to those faraway galaxies," Polari continued.
Mario still had questions, however.
"Um… how is a pulsar supposed to help me? If I remember from middle school, I'm pretty sure those are deadly. As they rotate very fast, and emit regular pulses of radio waves and other electromagnetic radiation at rates of up to one thousand pulses per second."
"Not pulsar. PULL. STAR!" Polari slowly pronounced. "You'll see what I mean in just a second."
The blue Luma floated up into the air and transformed into an object resembling a Sling Star, but was blue, smaller, and had an aura surrounding it.
"Alright. Now, just concentrate, and that Star will pull you towards it like gravity."
Mario closed his eyes and concentrated as hard as he could. Surely enough, the Pull Star pulled him up to it.
"Now, open your eyes," Polari instructed. Mario did so, and was awestruck by his surroundings. He was no longer inside the dome, but rather was floating in the vast regions of space. He witnessed galaxies orbiting around him. There were five galaxies within his field of view, however he couldn't identify any of them as they all looked blurry.
Two of the galaxies were dark and blurry, two appeared as ? blocks, and one of them looked particularly scary, in a familiar sort of sense. Mario was still fascinated by the sheer beauty of all this that he started to cry a bit. Luma noticed with concern.
"Um… Mario? You have Star Bits in your eyes."
"H-Huh?" Mario questioned. "No, no. These aren't Star Bits. Th-They're tears. This is just… a-a lot to take in right now…"
"It's okay. I'm here for you," Luma comforted Mario.
Polari continued to explain.
"Fascinating, isn't it?" Polari admired. "Now then, these are the galaxies that can be observed from this dome. The numbers represent their distance from the observatory. The bigger the number, the greater the distance."
"Distance in… light years, I assume?" Mario asked.
"Correct," Polari confirmed. "The more Power Stars you find, the farther you will be able to travel."
Mario looked to the blurry galaxy with a 1 on it, having no other options. He managed to get a more clear view of it. He noticed a planet with a small red house, and a tall gray tower on both sides, a Yoshi egg looking planet, and a few other planets. Mario recognized this galaxy.
"Hey! That's Good Egg Galaxy! This is the galaxy where I come from!" Mario exclaimed. "So there are Power Stars here?"
"Yes, it's undeniable! We're detecting Power Star energy patterns in the nearest galaxy. But I must warn you that the evil energy readings are off the charts! Please be careful…" Polari warned.
"Don't worry. I've got this! Thanks Polari."
"You're welcome! And good luck!"
Polari waved goodbye as a Launch Star suddenly appeared, and took Mario to Good Egg Galaxy.

Good Egg Galaxy
[BGM: Course Select - Super Mario Galaxy]
Good Egg Galaxy was a grassy plains themed galaxy. As it's name implied, the galaxy consisted of planets that were egg shaped or egg themed. A few oddball planets even existed, such as a hollow star shape, a military chomp saucer planet, a pill shaped planet which seemed to have a maze inside, and even a few tropical water planets.

[BGM: Course Intro - Super Mario Galaxy]
Mario's first mission was to get to a planet with a huge egg sitting on a nest. There was a really bright light radiating from that planet, indicating that the star was there.

[BGM: Good Egg Galaxy - Super Mario Galaxy]
Mario came into the galaxy shooting like a comet and landed on the first planet. It was the center planet he saw before, but now he could make out more detail. The planet consisted of tall grass and patches of flowers, with a tree, and a red roofed house resembling a toad house.
In front of the house were Goomba sized enemies that were blue with yellow spots, had yellow eyes, a yellow antenna, three rounded feet, and octopus-like round mouths. Instead of walking around and running towards Mario like Goombas, these strange alien enemies were territorial and would side step back and forth. Mario recognized seeing these enemies on the moon, but never learned their names.
"Those are Octoombas," Luma explained. "They're very territorial. If you go near one, they'll try to headbutt you. But they're not as tough as they look. One stomp on their head should defeat them."
"Oh, so that's what those enemies are called. They remind me of Goombas." Mario proceeded to stomp on them both before they got the chance to hit him. He also saw a sign on the door and decided to read it.
"Gone… for a long time. NOW SCRAM!"
[BGM pause]
Mario and Luma shrunk back by those last two words.
"Geez Louise! I get this person doesn't want someone just barging in their house, but do they have to be so rude about it?"
"Well, they certainly were rude. But let's just forget about it and look for that star," said Luma.
[BGM resume]
Mario nodded and noticed two bridges, the one to the left was made of wood, while the one to the right was made of stone. He decided to take the left path.
This took him to the other side of the planet, which was darker and gloomier, with no grass, bare trees, and a really tall tower. Surprisingly, Mario walked UP the tower, since it had its own gravity.
"Geez, these gravity physics are weird…" Mario thought.
Waiting at the top was a yellow Luma.
"My friends are ahead. Hurry!"
The Luma transformed into a Sling Star, a smaller and weaker version of the Launch Star, which took him up to a Launch Star. Mario flew over to a muddy peanut-shaped planet with boulders rolling all over it.
"Hey! There's no Launch Star here! Don't tell me we're at a dead end already!" Mario panicked.
"Not quite. Look around!"
Luma showed Mario little yellow chips that were floating around the planet.
"All we gotta do is collect all these Star Chips, and the Launch Star will be fixed."
"Oh, okay."
Mario started his Star Chip hunt. The first chip was a piece of cake since it was right in front of him,the second was in a mud pile, so he had to move quickly to avoid getting crushed by a boulder.
"Ugh! I just cleaned these shoes!" Mario complained.
The third was sitting next to a mud pile and he grabbed it quickly. The last two were not in mud piles, so he just had to maneuver around the boulders. With all five star chips collected, the Launch Star appeared, and Mario moved onto the next planet.
This planet was just a small, grassy bean-shaped planet, and all Mario had to do was defeat a piranha plant to summon a vine, which he took to reach the next planet. This planet was hollow, and looked like a bitten apple. The first thing that happened when he arrived was that a blue leech like creature jumped on to him, and tried sucking him up. This made him spin it off.
"OW! What was that thing?!"
"That's a Slurple. They'll jump onto you and basically try to suck the life out of you. Just spin to get rid of them," Luma explained.
"Got it."
Mario had to dodge the boulders that were rolling throughout the planet. If he touched once, he'd likely fall off the planet and be sucked into the black hole in the center. How that black hole wasn't sucking up the very planet it was in, I have no idea. Waiting at the top of the planet was a Spiny Piranha Plant. It tried slamming it's head onto Mario, only for him to jump on it, and summon the next vine.
The next planet didn't seem like much at first, but he walked to the other side, and saw he had to climb up some bricks. Other than a few Octoombas pestering him, it was easier said than done, and a Launch Star awaited on top.
The Launch Star sent Mario flying through space like a comet. He felt a sense of freedom and peace… until he slammed right into a giant egg on a round planet and fell to the floor.
[BGM end]
"Ooooooooooooh…"
Luma pops out showing concern.
"Are you okay, Mario?" he asked.
"Oh yeah! I'm fine. Totally fine!" Mario replied sarcastically. "One hour, I'm on my way to Peach's Castle with two special friends of mine who I view as a brother and sister, the next I'm millions, perhaps even billions of miles from home, endlessly hunting down for Stars. And to add insult to injury, I hit my head on this giant egg. Life couldn't possibly get any grander!"
As Mario was complaining, a huge green tail with a rounded brown end popped out of the egg. Feet were also visible under the egg shell. Luma noticed it and got frightened.
"M-M-M-Mario?!" he stuttered.
"Luma? What's wrong? You're acting like you've seen a-" Before he could finish, the tail of the creature slithered in front of him, driving him into doing a spin.
"-MONSTER!"
He spinned at the balled point, which stretchedf out, but then returned to the creature with a slam on the egg shell.
"EEP!" Luma hid into Mario's cap as the plumber witnessed the shell crack right open, revealing a hideous dinosaur-like creature. It looked to be some sort of fusion of a dinosaur, and Petey Piranha, the hideous overgrown Piranha Plant that Mario's friend, Aqua, fought on Isle Delfino. It had a ball pointed green tail, spikes on its back, dinosaur-like feet, leaf arms that were mostly green, but had yellow and red on the outsides, and a white stomach that looked similar to Bowser's. It's head looked the most like Petey, only it was purple instead of red. While Petey's voice was very deep, this creature had a high pitched screech for a roar.
Once Mario uncovered his ears after that screech, he laughed at its appearance.
"What the heck are you supposed to be? Petey Piranha from the Stone Age?" He laughed even more.
[BGM: Dino Piranha - Super Mario Galaxy]
This ticked off the overgrown plant and he started stomping towards the plumber. Luma peeped out of his cap as he ran for his life.
"Mario! That's Dino Piranha, and he's very dangerous! Don't underestimate him, for he probably thinks you look like a tasty snack!"
Mario remembered how he hit the tail to expose the beast.
"I think I know how to defeat him, though."
Mario walked over to Dino Piranha's tails, hitting him. Some of his flower petals came flying off of him.
[BGM end]
[BGM: Dino Piranha (Fast) - Super Mario Galaxy]
The beast was very mad now, as his head turned orange and let out another ear piercing screech. It started running even faster towards Mario, but he still managed to get behind him and hit him again.
[BGM end]
Upon hitting Dino Piranha one last time, all of his flower petals came off, and he let out a dying screech before falling to the floor and disappearing, leaving behind the first regular Power Star.
[BGM: Star Chance - Super Mario Galaxy]
Luma came out of Mario's cap and celebrated with him. "Woohoo! We did it!"
"We're one star closer to saving the princess!"

Mario grabbed the star. It circled around him a few times before he snatched it, and held it out in the air as his victory pose.

Meanwhile at Peach's Castle…
[BGM: Tension - Super Mario Galaxy]
"He's been blasted into OUTER SPACE?!" Luigi cried out of shock at this news. Peach, Alex and Leah had just told him and Toad everything that happened with the festival, and how Bowser came to ruin everything… AGAIN!
"Y-Yes…" Peach cried with a broken voice. "And i-it's all m-my fault."
"Don't blame yourself, Princess." Leah comforted her with a hug
"Yeah, it's that STUPID Bowser who ruined everything!" Alex added in anger. "This was supposed to be the best birthday ever for me, but he decided to blast away Mario, mock me, and eat my cake!"
Leah, then put on a horrible thought, when she remembered that Mario was blasted into space.
"Wait… if Mario's lost in outer space, could he be d-... d-... d-..." Leah teared up as she couldn't bear to finish that horrible word."
"Actually, unlike the so-called 'Real World' you two come from, you can breathe in outer space in this universe," Toad pointed out.
Alex was thinking for a moment when it hit him.
"Wait, you can BREATHE in outer space in this world?! Then that could mean…" Alex thought of the words to finish "That means Mario could still be alive! We gotta go out there and find him!"
"But HOW?!" Peach questioned. "He could be anywhere! Not to mention, we're prisoners of my own HOME!"
"But Bowser doesn't know that WE'RE here!" Toad mentioned. "If we can all just get down from the balcony and hijack one of the airships, we can all escape and look for Mario! My friends are in the castle too… and we can't leave without them!"
Peach took a moment to think about Toad's idea, and then settled on it.
"Alright, here's the plan. Toad, find your friends. If Bowser's ordered any guards around the place, avoid them at ALL COSTS!"
"Got it!" Toad saluted.
"Luigi, you gotta sneak outside of the castle and hijack one of the airships. You MUST get the pilot out! Even if it involves violence."
Luigi gulped. He never got himself into physical violence unless provoked himself. Now HE has to be the one doing the provoking?! "O-Okay."
"Finally, Alex, Leah, come with me. We're gonna sneak to the kitchen and gather supplies. After all… it could take us days to find Mario… Or maybe months… Or even years…"
"Uh oh…" muttered Leah.
"Mom and Dad are gonna be worried sick about us," said Alex.

A/N: You might've noticed how I've been including background music, right? Well, I'm allowing background music requests. The music requests can be from any video game, not just Mario games.
So if you have any requests for music you want me to include, tell me the name of the soundtrack, the game it's from, and what part of the story you want me to play it in. I'll only accept these requests if they fit the situation, and if I don't already have something planned for those sections.
