A/N: A huge thanks to soojinah for flooding my inbox with reviews and making me smile goofily for a whole day. I'm glad you like the way I write the characters and really just thank you for the feedback. Scripturiens and starrymilk and Kimi, thank you so so much for your input, especially Scripturiens for pointing out things that seemed off about Tai's character because that will help me for the future chapters. To show my gratitude, you guys can request ANYTHING. A prompt, an AU situation, a songfic, anything with any of the 8 (I don't do 02 characters well) and I'll write it asap.
And the review thing, well I understand that the chapters are and abrupt so usually reviewing seems impossible, but the thing is that even a two word review notifies me that someone is actually reading this and I'm not writing this for just myself and well that's about it.
About this chapter, it's not what I promised in the previous one but kind of like a build up. I felt like writing after the response to the previous one so I hope you guys enjoy it. Lots of Taiora foreshadowing in this one and also the longest chapter yet. Yay!

They made it to class just before the bell rang. Both Koushiro and Mimi let out a relieved sigh as they could finally start breathing again and the duo looked more tired than happy as they made their way to their assigned seats. It seemed as if luck always worked out for the Digidestined since their new teacher had made them draw lots to figure out the seating arrangement and somehow, all 5 of them ended up in the same corner. Mimi sat between Sora and Yamato, with the former in front of her and the latter behind her. Their seats were right next to the windows and Mimi couldn't have asked for a better location because daydreaming and looking at the passing clouds was an important part of her learning process. Koushiro sat next to her with Taichi right behind him and both Mimi and Koushiro were often forced to tolerate the furious whispering arguments over the most stupid things between the blonde and the football maniac. Well of course Yamato-kun's voice didn't bother her at all.
Usually Mimi would skip to her seat merrily, more than eager to sit near Yamato-kun but today as she hurriedly made it to the classroom gasping for breath, she noticed something odd which faltered her step slightly. She made her to way her seat with Kou-chan trailing behind her with a small frown on her face, some of their other classmates wished her Ohayo and she replied absentmindedly. The moment she reached her chair, she sat down quickly and pulled out her phone from her bag hastily. She scanned her texts and call log and not finding what she was looking for, she turned around instantly.
The sudden movement made the other three boys jump. Taichi had pretty much almost drifted off to sleep but now he sat up instantly, his eyes on Mimi. Yamato had been scribbling something in his notebook but the pencil slipped out of his hand as he looked up at her. She thought she saw a hint of pink colour his cheeks when their eyes met, but Mimi brushed it off as her overactive imagination. Kou-chan had already taken out the textbooks for their first period and he almost let out a small yelp as Mimi suddenly turned in her seat. With all their attention focused on her, she narrowed her eyes and asked her question in the most intimidating voice she could manage.
"This is the first time that Sora-chan hasn't shown up to school and that has never happened before. She hasn't replied to any of my texts or calls over the weekend. Where is she?" Mimi first directed her eyes towards Kou-chan who just shook his head violently indicating that he had no idea, next her eyes landed on the blonde who shrugged and turned to look at his best friend instead. Mimi followed suit and noticed that Taichi instantly avoided their gaze.
"Why would I know?" He murmured, his posture instantly slouching.
"What did you do?" Yamato asked wearily.
"Nothing. For once would you guys consider the fact that it's not always my fault?" Taichi retorted scowling at the blonde.
"That's extremely hard to believe." Yamato muttered as he turned his attention back to the notebook in front of him.
Mimi studied the football captain for a few more minutes. He looked a little agitated, but what was most off about his behaviour was the fact that he was (shockingly) not talking. Their little corner at the back of the classroom never lacked noise, except for when their (self-proclaimed) leader was napping. And even then an occasional snore or two used to reach their ears definitely. So today, after seeing him sulk and keep to himself and not even attempting to make conversation with (or annoy) the blonde sitting next to him made Mimi reach the conclusion that the two had had a fight, probably over something important. Moreover, Sora-chan's mysterious absence and the way Taichi's eyes clouded over the minute she had mentioned the auburn haired girl's name also indicated that some type of disagreement had taken place between those two as well. The brunette turned around in her seat and faced the front once again. She felt a little guilty for not bothering to check up on Sora-chan over the weekend since all she had done was have a cupcake eating match with Takeru-chan and hang around with Kou-chan doing absolutely nothing. She should've gone to Sora-chan's place, she thought, or called her more than once or twice. Maybe the fight or whatever happened between Sora-chan and Taichi could have been avoided if she had been there.
As their teacher started the first class, Mimi couldn't help but stare dejectedly at the empty seat in front of her. Looking at Sora-chan's back had been calming for her because she knew she would surely be greeted with one of Sora-chan's warm smiles whenever the auburn haired girl turned around. To pass a whole day in school without giggling with Sora-chan over the silliest things or watching her scold Taichi for falling asleep during class filled Mimi's entirety with loneliness.

If Yamato had known that there had been something going on between Sora and Taichi, he wouldn't have been so harsh on his best friend the day before. His whole day so far had been filled with oddity. First, the uncomfortable train ride and now this eerie silence that came with Taichi being upset. He felt extremely uneasy knowing that Taichi was sitting next to him but he wasn't talking. Yamato noticed that his life had fallen into a pattern of some sort over the past few years, one that lacked silence. Before visiting the Digi-World, his elementary school days had been quite lonely. He had hated himself at that time. Hated how he couldn't talk to his classmates properly, how he was always the last one picked. He had hated how empty he had felt inside despite of being in a noisy classroom. He had hated how lonely his new home felt without his mother and Takeru. But falling into the Digi-World had changed everything. Not only did he get to spend time with Takeru, he came out of there with bonds that were stronger than any other he had ever made and somehow (he knew) would last longer too. After that, he had gotten so used to the constant buzz around him that the days when it was absent, made him feel completely shitty inside. He wondered how he had coped with the emptiness when he had just been 10 or 11 years old and how now, 6-7 years later, it seemed pretty much impossible to do.
He sneaked glances at Taichi a few times and noticed that his best friend had his head buried under his arms and was resting on the table. Either he was asleep or he was pretending to do so in order to avoid eye-contact with the blonde. Considering the situation, Yamato decided that it was the latter and he returned his attention towards the teacher, deciding that he would corner Taichi during lunch and talk things out with him.
The blonde was aware about Taichi's feelings for Sora. He had been utterly surprised when Taichi had accidentally blurted it out to him because the brown haired boy had actually done a great job hiding it. That day Yamato realized, that Taichi did not always wear his heart on the sleeve as everyone seemed to assume and was very good at hiding what he was feeling. When he talked to Sora it was like he was talking to Koushiro or Takeru, goofy and confident. There was no stuttering, no blushing. He didn't stumble or avoid her gaze and always looked her straight in the eye. He wasn't extra sweet to her and he never tried to impress her, he was always just himself. To any third person (like Yamato and literally everyone else), they looked like best friends, nothing more and nothing less. The fact that Taichi was hiding such a huge emotion behind it all had been extremely shocking for Yamato.
The blonde felt a little jealous of how perfectly his best friend carried himself. It had only been a day since Yamato found out about Mimi's feelings towards him and he was already stumbling and blushing like an idiot. He was trying very hard to control himself and not slip up. After Takeru had gone off to sleep last night, Yamato had spent quite a lot of time thinking about everything Taichi had said and in the train, after rethinking everything once again, he had finally reached a conclusion. He would not allow himself to fall for Mimi. The two of them together would never work, it was impossible really. And he firmly believed that Mimi was one of the kindest and most caring person he had ever met so naturally she would never be happy with someone as cynical and selfish as himself. He understood that what she felt towards him could just be a kind of infatuation because of the band and singing stuff. According to Taichi, girls really liked that. So he was sure that slowly she'd get over it and hence he'd also prepared exactly what he was going to tell her, in case she confessed, beforehand. Yes, he had planned it all out and he was going to carry it out as confidently as Taichi and not screw it up…
"Yamato-kun?"
Yamato looked up to see Mimi, turned around in her seat, peeking unsurely at him. He realized that he had dozed off while thinking about his fool-proof plan and lunch time had already begun. The blonde quickly lifted his head and turned towards Taichi's seat.
Empty.
"Ano, Taichi already left with the football team guys." Mimi pitched in.
"Ahh…" Was all the blonde could manage. He turned his gaze towards Koushiro's seat and deadpanned.
Empty again.
"Kou-chan had to head to the AV room, something wrong with the projector there." She explained, following his gaze.
"Oh…"
Yamato gulped, slowly he turned to face Mimi. The minute their eyes met, she quickly looked away and started studying the bento on her lap. Yamato, on the other hand couldn't bring himself to look away. Her hair framed her face perfectly and it had recently come into his notice that he really liked the colour of her hair. The bright pink dye had worn off by the time they entered high school and now her hair was a mixture of light golden and brown and sometimes (when the light was right), strands of pastel pink would be visible. To him, that colour reminded him of a gentle ray of light and it suited her perfectly. The longer he stared the more he became conscious of how absolutely perfect everything about her was. Her pale whitish skin, the caramel coloured eyes, that tiny nose, those pouty pink lips that he just couldn't take his eyes off of. She was a beautiful doll that had appeared in front of him to lure him, if he touched her she would break. But he couldn't stop himself from wanting to touch her, thus she was destined to fall apart.
"Uh…uhmm.. Y-Yamato-kun?"
Her voice brought him back to earth and he realized that he had been staring at her for quite a while now. Her cheeks were now completely flushed and she was busy figuring out a way to avoid his gaze. The moment he grasped what he had been doing, he looked away immediately, his own face now a light shade of red as he hastily fished out his lunch from his bag. He cursed himself for doing something so obvious and so stupid. The plan, the plan he thought. He forced himself to remember every single word that he was going to use to turn her down but unfortunately, not even one letter came to his mind, only her face.
"Uh, it's just the two of us today then…"He muttered quietly, making sure that his voice sounded normal and didn't come out hoarse or squeaky.
"Yeah. For the first time ever, it's just the two of us." She replied, she was still avoiding his gaze but he noticed the signs of a small smile appear on her face.
He took a deep breath and cleared his mind, fuck the plan.
"You want to stay in the classroom? Or we could head to the roof, you know, for some peace and quiet." He knew what her answer would be before he even finished his question.
She looked at him wide-eyed, the pink tinge never leaving her cheeks as she tightened her grasp on the bento box in her hand.
"The roof."
