The sun had only just set, leaving behind traces of orange clouds in a now deep purple sky. The apartment complex Mimi lived in stood tall, the subtle grey paint and dark windows seemed dreadful in comparison to the eerily romantic colours of the sky. Yamato kept his gaze fixed on her figure intently, holding his breath in the process unaware, till the brunette passed through the entrance, with the doors automatically sliding shut behind her, he finally exhaled relievedly. He turned on his heels, ready to head back home when he realised that his heart felt heavy with every step that he attempted to take. He groaned internally as it hit him that he still hadn't had enough of Mimi, and he should've taken her out for a coffee or dessert instead of bringing her straight home. But his mind had been taken over by the thought of her hand fitting perfectly into his, which kind of stopped him from thinking about anything else.

After the kiss, the thought of which still set Yamato's heartbeat racing, the blond had concluded that Mimi was too dazed to be able to reach home safely by herself, thus taking up this daring task upon himself. They'd walked mostly in silence, with the occasional giddy giggle from Mimi, but each had been too lost in their train of thought to make small talk. For Yamato however, the fact that the silence between them was comfortable and didn't force him into making redundant conversation, was enough to fill his heart with warmth. He hadn't been able to achieve this with many people in his life and to think it came so easily with Mimi made him wonder about the other surprises she would throw his way in the future.

It was when Mimi unconsciously took his hand as they turned into a crowded street when Yamato understood that he shouldn't feel so confident with himself after a kiss. Although just an hour or so ago, she'd done the same thing and so he'd assumed he would be used to it now, it seemed like it would take a while for him to not feel a jolt run down through his entire body every time she touched him. He was too caught up in himself to sneak a glance at Mimi but he could tell she must be going through the same turmoil of emotions as he was because of how warm her palm felt against his own. As the crowd around them thickened, before Yamato could even comprehend the thought, he tightened his grip on her hand and pulled her closer towards him, she giggled into his shoulder and he felt a blush creep up his cheek. He would have to learn to get a grip on himself sooner than later, Yamato concluded in his head, this constant awkward fumbling of his would be very damaging for his cool and collected reputation, and someone like Taichi or Takeru would definitely not let it rest for the rest of their lives.

But let this be a mission for another day, he thought, for now he wanted to bask in the warmth covering his cheeks, the softness of her skin against his own, the now familiar scent of her shampoo, the faint sound of her loud heartbeat and the beautiful sky looming above them. And before he knew it, they were outside her house, saying hushed goodbyes as neither was brave enough to take things a step further yet.

After shaking his head in an attempt to get out of the trance he was stuck in, Yamato finally paid attention to his surroundings and realised that he had barely made it past a few steps away from Mimi's apartment. He reasoned with himself, that as much as he wanted to spend more time with the brunette, getting home at snail's pace was not the solution. Letting out a deep sigh and taking a few minutes to compose himself, Yamato readied himself to take his leave, definitively this time, but he felt a sharp tug at the back of his shirt, making him falter in his step.

When he turned around, he came face to face with a red-faced and completely out of breath Mimi.

Mimi let go of her clutch on his shirt and let her hand fall to her side, having sprinted down the stairs from her floor because the elevator just wouldn't arrive, she needed a few more minutes to be able to breathe properly but her mind was in a state of panic, she was afraid that Yamato would slip away from her before she could tell him how she really felt.

"I'm not-" Mimi started to speak, but had to pause to gulp loudly before she could form a whole sentence, "I'm not ready to go home yet. I want to spend more time with you." She swallowed a mouthful of air before straightening up to meet his gaze, she didn't know if it was the adrenaline rush from all the running or an unknown source of confidence within her, but she had somehow manage to speak her mind to Yamato-kun, telling him exactly what she wanted without stuttering or sounding shy. Apparently it wasn't just him who was capable of making bold moves out of nowhere, she thought. The blond seemed to be having similar thoughts because he looked absolutely shocked by Mimi's outburst and when he continued to stay silent she started to regret her actions, in her own selfish need to be by his side for a while longer, had she overstepped her boundaries with him?

"What a coincidence," Yamato muttered after an eternity of silence, slowly he began to smile as he put his hand forward and Mimi, without thinking, reached out her own and before she knew it, he was already pulling her towards the train station. With a shy smile now covering his face, he quickly added, "I was just thinking the same thing."

When her day had started with Sora-chan being grumpy about not getting the double date she wanted, Mimi had not expected it to take a turn like this. It felt like a dream, to have Yamato-kun tightly grasp onto her hand as he lead the way, their destination undecided. Should she pinch her cheeks just to make sure that she hadn't fallen asleep on her doorstep out of exhaustion and that this was all really happening? That she and Yamato really did jump onto a random a train, without even looking at the direction it was heading towards, and were now laughing in sync as they sat huddled closely, shoulders brushing and knees bumping against the other every now and then, hands still intertwined tightly.

It was when the crowd in the train started to thin and they were just a few stations away from the last stop that the happy daze that had settled over the couple finally began to wear off, and Yamato tugged at Mimi's hand to get her attention and signal to her that they should be getting off. The station he picked wasn't too far in the outskirts, but it wasn't close to either of their homes either. This thought relieved Mimi to a certain extent, chances of running into anyone they knew were basically zero, and she was glad that she had been getting more oppurtunities to have the blond all to herself lately.

They lucked out by finding a deserted family restaurant just outside the train station and it was when the two settled the into the corner booth opposite each other, that they finally let go of each other's hands. Mimi rested her elbows and on the table and settled her chin in between her palms, tilting her head in amusement as she watched Yamato study the menu with a frown on his face, probably unable to find any item to his liking, as always, because of his extremely specific taste. To her however, the quality of the food wouldn't really matter in this moment, because she was sharing it with him, but these were the little points where they differed and Mimi was thoroughly enjoying making a note of it.

When she had just started to come to terms with her crush on him, the thought that they didn't have much in common used to scare and discourage her, in fact that was the reason why she had always kept her distance from him, assuming that he'd find her boring. But Mimi had realised recently, in the small karaoke room a week ago to be more specific, that every time she had picked the kind of song that he wouldn't like, instead of looking annoyed he had held an expression like he was trying to figure out what she liked about the song. She didn't know the reasoning behind his actions yet, but she assumed that Yamato-kun too, wanted to remove the wall between them that was built on perceptions they had of each other.

Her speculations were confirmed when the second after they placed their orders, Yamato excitedly launched into the story about how Taichi had tried to convince him to go along with Sora's plan, and it was as if every single thought that Mimi, and Yamato too, had been holding onto came bursting out of them as naturally as water rushing downstream, and after how many days and months and years of knowing each other, Mimi could safely say that there were no words left unsaid between them.

Their conversation didn't need any steering or awkward brakes anymore, there was just so much to share, so much to talk about that Mimi was surprised by how they'd managed to keep quiet in each other's company for so long. They giggled over hypothetical scenarios of how a double date with Taichi and Sora would play out, theorised about Jou's girlfriend's identity, speculated about Koushiro's current net worth, and reminisced about their partner Digimon and the Digital World. She didn't even notice the time pass by or when they placed an order for a second helping, for Mimi, the world was currently moving in tune with the sound of Yamato's voice.

She wished she could remember this moment, this day exactly how it had played out, she wanted to make sure that she wouldn't forget the colour of the sky when Yamato had taken her hand, that she wouldn't forget the boring 90s music playing in the restaurant. She wanted to remember forever, the way Yamato's lips curled gradually into a grin from a smile, the way his eyes twinkled with fondness when he talked about Takeru or Taichi, or how they darkened when he talked about his parents, the way his cheeks turned pink when she complimented him or the way his ears turned red when she smiled at him. Or how cute he looked, when she explained why her father wasn't fond of him, biting his tongue or scrunching up his nose to hold himself back. She even wanted to remember the fuzzy warmth that surrounded them, the comfortable silence that settled between them as they ate, the joy of being in their own tiny bubble, cut off from the rest of the world.

But it would be impossible, she realised, to retain every little detail forever and ever and she felt her heart get heavy with despair and her eyes welled up with tears she attempted to hold back.

"Are you okay? What's wrong?" Yamato was quick to react to the sudden change in her expression, he picked up the jug of water and filled her empty glass to the brim, pushing it towards her as he shot her a look filled with concern.

"I'm fine, but I-" Mimi paused to swallow the lump in her throat in an attempt to stop the tears from falling, "I just started thinking about how I'll never be able to remember this day perfectly." She watched as he leaned back in his seat, looking a bit taken aback by her statement he ran a hand through his hair before meeting her gaze once again.

"Mimi," he began, his azure eyes were filled with nothing but affection, "This isn't our last day on earth, you know."

She felt her cheeks get warm as she realised that every bit of that affection was directed at her, and that look in his eyes was something she knew she wouldn't ever be able to forget, even if she wanted to.

Yamato's simple statement however, filled her with relief.

"We have our whole lives ahead of us, I think you'll make a lot more memories worth remembering over today." He smiled gently at her, and she blushed again under his adoring gaze.

It seemed that what Yamato was trying to tell her was that this wouldn't be the last time the two of them would spend time together like this, so even if she did happen to forget the little things from today, maybe she will remember the little things from tomorrow or the day after that. The thought of sharing more such moments with him in the future was enough to send Mimi on cloud nine, but she somehow managed to pull herself back to the ground and sighed contently. Rather than worrying about what she would remember in the future about this day, she decided to focus her attention to the moment that was unwrapping itself around her.

With her heart and mind content and comforted at last, Mimi turned her attention to the dessert that lay untouched on the table, the two scoops of ice cream she had ordered for herself had turned more creamy than icy, which was more of Sora-chan's preference than hers. Nevertheless since she craved something sweet after the saltiness left in her throat by the lump from earlier, she eagerly mixed the two different flavours together with her spoon and as she did so, she felt a watchful gaze upon her. Looking up, she saw that Yamato was watching her quite closely, his sceptical eyes dropping to the concoction she had just created.

"Would you like to try it?" She asked, grinning playfully, knowing full well that the blond wasn't a fan of either of the flavours she had selected, strawberry and green tea, and would definitely not want to taste the two together. But it was always fun to challenge his pride, it made teasing him so much more fun.

"I've never thought about mixing strawberry and green tea before," He muttered, musing to himself as he studied the ice-cream bowl, he looked up to meet her eyes, "You certainly think of the most unique combinations."

"So you don't want to give it a try?" Mimi pursed her lips together in a pout, a bit disappointed that she wouldn't get the chance to laugh at his reaction after tasting the weird mixture.

"I guess one bite wouldn't hurt…" Yamato replied in an uncertain tone, unable to stand his ground against the pleading look on her face.

It wasn't fair that she could just look at him like that and he'd lose all his will to resist. Yamato thought to himself that he really needed to attempt building immunity towards Mimi's many charms, even if he found them utterly adorable. Accepting his defeat for now however, he started to lean forward to reach for the spoon so he could take a tiny portion and be done with the whole thing as quickly as possible. As sweet and inviting Mimi's eyes had looked, the pink and green gooey substance in the ice cream bowl did not mirror that, and he wondered if it'd taste better if he kept his eyes closed. He was grateful that he hadn't yet shut his eyes because what happened next was something he hadn't expected to happen even in the most wonderful of his dreams.

Mimi had scooped up a considerable portion of the ice cream on the spoon that she had been using, and was now bringing it towards him as her lips curled upwards into the most mischievous smile.

As he understood what was happening, his heart almost stopped. She was going to feed him.

He was about to be spoon fed by the prettiest girl he had ever seen, it wouldn't be a stretch for Yamato to consider himself as the luckiest high school boy on Planet Earth.

"Say ah," Mimi chirped up, and the minute her melodic voice reached his ears, Yamato lost all volition of his own.

His body moved on it's own as he opened his mouth and Mimi very triumphantly fed him a larger portion than what he had originally expected to eat. As he swallowed the ice cream, the taste didn't seem to register in his brain because all he could think about was how he would even swallow poison without a second thought if Mimi fed it to him with that smile playing on her lips.

He could tell that Mimi had made the same conclusion in her mind because of the triumphant grin that was now spreading across her face, and Yamato wanted to curse himself for giving away his emotions and thoughts so easily. But his whole body was aching with the urge to feel Mimi's lips on his all over again. He had managed to keep himself seated so far thanks to the bits of rationale that still remained in his brain and were working tirelessly to remind him that they were in a public, family restaurant and he needed to display appropriate behaviour as they were still wearing their school's uniform.

Mimi however, was seeing this as an opportunity to get her way without any opposition. She had a thoughtful look across her face and Yamato hoped that whatever was going on inside her head wouldn't involve another act of such sinful teasing.

"Yamato-kun?" She finally smiled at him after a few minutes of absolute silence, her caramel eyes gleaming under the bright lights of the restaurant as they fixed themselves onto him and made it difficult for him to tear his gaze away from her.

"Yeah?" He somehow managed to maintain a normal tone as he replied, despite of his heart racing at a thousand miles per second. If he had learned anything from his recent encounters with the brunette, it was that she had this strange ability to take control in the most delicate moments. Even though she herself looked like she was struggling with the same set of emotions and urges that he was, somehow she was able to turn that into a confident aura that just roped him in, making it impossible for him to put up any resistance.

"Can I tell everyone that I'm your girlfriend?"

"Of course." He replied without thinking it over, as if in a trance.

Mimi let out an excited squeal, that caught the attention of the restaurant staff for a brief moment, and Yamato let out another defeated sigh.

Although, this was the first time in his life that he had experienced a loss didn't actually feel like one, after all as Taichi had told him, Mimi was the prettiest girl in their school and she was head over heels for him, so when it came to her, he would always be in a win-win situation.

A/N: I believe a lot of people may not be able to leave a review after I merged and deleted some chapters since the site doesn't allow you to leave a review for a chapter you've technically reviewed before. But I still hope that the long wait over this chapter was worth it.

I know some people were hoping for Taiora content as well, but I think that will have to wait for a while. Until next time, stay safe everyone!
