Geoff Story
"Oh, c'mon man, not that story again," said Duncan laughing and covering his face with both hands.
Geoff stood up to take another drink. "Oh, don't say that dude. It's a great story."
"It may be funny the first 10 times man, but you always tell it when you're drunk. We don't need this bet to hear it," said DJ, shaking his head.
"I never heard this story before, it's with Bridgette?" asked Cody, showing a smug smile.
The party boy looked at Cody with wide eyes, "Of course it's with Bridgette, dude! I-I would never touch any other woman. She's my everything."
"Yes, Geoff, and what about Joanie?" asked Duncan, smirking.
Geoff took off his hat and slapped Duncan with it while the delinquent laughed.
"Joanie was ages before Bridge, and you promised to never mention it," Geoff put his hat again while frowning.
"Anyway, I'm also interested, eh. Can you tell us that story, Geoff?" asked Ezekiel while drinking Piña colada.
"Hehehe, if you and the little Drama Brother insist I must oblige. It was in the summer 2 years ago…"
Well, dude, actually it was August. In June, I moved to the V to be near Bridgette and started working in the CIVT as an assistant. Bridge entered UBC with a scholarship. That girl is awesome! I can't believe she's so smart and beautiful. It's like unfair that a single chick can be so wonderful.
Annotation: Duncan
"I have been dating that wonderful chick for almost a year, so I have this great idea-" said Duncan mocking Geoff's voice.
"To give her a big, no wait, a ginormous surprise-" DJ opened his arms with a big smile.
"HEY! not cool dudes, I'm the one telling the story," said Geoff while frowning, then he took a sip of his beer, "what was I saying, oh yes…"
I have been dating this wonderful chick for almost a year, so I have this great idea. To give her a big, no wait, a ginormous surprise as our anniversary gift, it would be awesome."
So there I was, 3 weeks before the big night. I started to avoid talking about our relationship or when we started dating. When she tried to bring it up, I changed the subject to something else, like surfing, music, or cougars.
Annotation: Cody
"Man, do you really talk with Bridgette about cougars?" asked Cody, chuckling and almost dropping his beer.
"Yes, I can talk about the Vancouver Cougars for hours," Geoff smiled, tipping his hat.
"There is no way that your story is actually factual. It doesn't seem plausible that you can start a conversation about cougars with Bridgette in a successful way," said Harold raising an eyebrow.
Geoff raised his face proudly. "Don't be so sure. Since I came to the V I became an expert on the cougars, even Bridge love to hear me talk about them."
"Don't lie, you were a cougar expert long before going to Vancouver," said Duncan, who was laughing with the others, except Ezekiel that didn't understand the joke (Owen neither, but he laughed with the others anyway).
"Eh? Of course not. I always supported the Wanderers before dating Bridge," Geoff scratched his head, confused by his friends' words.
Alejandro smirked and also taunted Geoff. "Yes? And what about Blaineley?"
"Eh? What are you talking about?" Geoff's confused expression turned into an angry one. "Ohhh! Now I get it! Not cool dudes, I was talking about Vancouver's football team. You all so dirty-minded," shouted the party boy who emptied his drink in one go. "Anyway let me continue…"
But that wasn't all. As I needed help distracting Bridge, I called my friend Brody. He came from the Maritimes to help me with the surprise.
Brody has been my best friend since I met him in middle school. He's fun, loyal, and cool. We played together on the high school's football team, and he was chill with Bridge, so he was the best option.
The plan was simple, I made a reservation in 'Green World,' Bridge's favorite restaurant near the coast. You can see the sea while eating that tasteless tofu steak or some other weird but nutritious and environmentally friendly food.
Then I'll give her a platinum dolphin brooch I see in a jewelry store. Bridge doesn't like to use makeup or accessories so I never gave her anything like that. But that brooch was like magical, it was pretty, shiny, and it reminded me of her. It was like the Dolphin brooch and Bridge were meant to be together, dudes. After that, we would go to take a walk on the beach and surf until the sunset.
To make an awesome day into an awesomer one, I made a reservation at the Fairmount Plaza hotel, because you can see the city's skyline on the top floors. So I reserved the penthouse and also decided to pay for some fireworks, including a big heart.
Yes maybe it was a little too much but it was our first anniversary, and I wanted the best of the best for my sweet girl.
It was the perfect plan, dudes. While I made all the preparations, Brody would keep Bridge distracted, so she wouldn't suspect anything. It was an awesome plan.
But as awesome as it was, it had some flaws. For example, Bridge got a little upset with Brody's visit, especially because he joined us in all our meals. She was frowning and folding her arms all the time. My Bridgie Bear didn't have a chance to bring up our anniversary thanks to Brody's diversionary tactics, but maybe that made her a little grumpy.
Then I began to have more problems with my flawless plan. First, the brooch was a little more expensive than I thought, like really expensive. C'mon dude is just platinum with a small sapphire! It's not like I was buying an engagement ring or something.
Annotation: Harold
"Actually, platinum is more expensive than gold because it's rarer. The annual production of gold is almost 10 times the platinum one. Also, it has a bigger density than gold. So you need a lot more platinum to make a brooch than the same piece in gold," explained Harold adjusting his glasses and then taking a sip from an orujo shoot.
But there is no problem without a solution. I went to talk with my boss and asked her for a three-month salary advance. It was easy, she's a great and kind woman. I only had to beg and plead for 3 hours until she accepted. Yes, I'll be short on money and will have to live off instant noodles for some weeks, but it was worth it.
And also, that means that all my budget went off in the hotel and restaurant reserve. And I went over my budget to buy the brooch, which I kept in my office, so Bridge wouldn't discover it. So my next problem was that I didn't have enough money to pay for the fireworks.
Fortunately, I found a cheap firework maker from the prairies who was dirt cheap. It was awesome, as if some mysterious force was helping me. The day before our anniversary, all was ready. I worked some overtime, and when I was at home, my Bridge-bear was already sleeping. I kissed her on the forehead and went to sleep in my room.
But then, as if someone pressed a switch, all began to go awry.
Annotation: Ezekiel
"That is karma, man, the force that balances the universe, eh. You should compensate karma if it's too kind to you or things will go wrong."
The next day, dudes, I realized that I forgot to take the brooch from my desk in the CIVT's building. How can I be so stupid, dudes! So I prepared the breakfast for Bridge, some pancakes and orange juice, and went out before she woke up. I didn't notice the note she left on my night table. I mean, I was in a rush. So I took my car and went to get the brooch.
I arrived there just some minutes before 10:00 am. Then I found that the building was closed. Figure it! It seemed it didn't open during Summer's Sundays. I panicked! My anniversary gift was in there! So I did the only thing someone could do in that situation.
I break into the building.
Annotation: Trent
Trent looked at the party boy shocked, his green eyes wide. "C'mon man, you're making that up. You didn't break into your office."
DJ took a sip of his piña colada and replied with a sad smile. "He did it. I can corroborate it."
"Me too. Malibu also said so," replied Duncan smirking.
Geoff looked at his friends and scratched his head below his cowboy hat. "Man, it was a life or death situation. What else could I do?"
Cody rubbed his chin."Call your boss and try to find some guy who could open the door?"
Harold raised a hand. "What about the management of the building. Surely they can help you to find some way to access legitimately into the facilities."
Alejandro drank a shoot of orujo and smirked. "Call 911 and tell them someone is breaking into the building."
DJ looked at him frowning, and with a worried expression. "That is also a crime, isn't it?"
"It's mischief, Section 140 of the criminal code, punishable with 2000 dollars the first time," said Duncan while drinking his screwdriver. All the presents looked at him with wide eyes. "What? I heard that a lot at home when my girlfriend was studying for her tests, so I memorized it. Also, I'm from a cop family, remember?"
Geoff frowned, looking at the floor. "All right, maybe I had other alternatives. But I'm stupid, ok? That was the best I could think at the moment. Now let me continue with my story."
But I couldn't just like break inside the building in broad daylight. So I left my cowboy hat on the car, bought some stockings in a store two streets away, and put it around my head. Then I discretely use a trash can and break the glass door.
And damn it, dude! As soon as I broke the door, the alarm went off! So I had to run up 3 floors to my desk.
But I must have been cursed or something dudes, because inside the room was an old lady cleaning. C'mon if there were people inside working, why did you keep the main entrance closed? Anyway, it was a genuinely awkward situation. The old lady stared at me so intently that I was afraid their eyes would come out of her sockets.
I tried to explain what was happening. But as soon as I said 'Hey,' the crazy old lady began to scream and beg for her life. I was freaking out, like, c'mon I only want to take my brooch. So I told her. "Stay quiet and nobody will get hurt." And it was like magic. The crazy old lady sat in a chair and stood silent.
So I took the brooch, put it in my pocket, and was about to leave when I heard a weird sound. Like Fiii Fuuu, Fiii Fuuu. Before I went out, I looked at the crazy old lady and DUDE! She was sweating a lot, white as paper, and the weird sound was her breathing.
So I was like for real dude? And then did the only thing anyone could do in this situation.
Annotation: Justin
"Leave her there and go to your date?" said Justin tilting his head.
Geoff was shocked. He looked at the male model with wide eyes. "Eh? No, of course no, dude. That would be heartless!"
Noah rolled his eyes. "You just break in a building in Vancouver. The police should be there in a few minutes. They could take care of the lady better than some burglar using a stocking mask."
"Anyway, I did the only thing a normal person in that situation could do," said Geoff glaring at Noah and Justin.
I ran to check on her. She was weak but responsive.
"Hey granny are you ok?" I asked her. I couldn't see a thing through the stocking.
The crazy old lady was heavy breathing, her eyes bulging. "My, *Fiii*, My heart medicine. *Fuuu*, it's in my bag."
I nodded and ran in the direction of her bag. She dropped the bag on the floor after I scared her. So I took it and began to look inside, trying to find the medicine.
"Are you, *Fiii*, trying to smug my wallet?" said the crazy old lady. She sounded as if she was dying.
I glared at her. "NO! I'm trying to find your heart medicine granny, but this is like Mary Poppins bag! How can you carry so much stuff?" Also, I couldn't see a damn thing using the stocking over my head.
And in the damn bag, I could only find a bottle of aspirins. But as soon as I took it out of the bag, the old lady began to talk louder. "That is. That's the medicine, *Fuuu*."
I looked at the bottle again, and yes, they were aspirins. And I was already late, so I gave it to her and began to run out of the room.
Annotation: Harold
"Acetylsalicylic acid or aspirin is recommended in case of a heart attack. This is because it inhibits the creation of platelets in the bloodstream. The platelets are the blood cells that trigger blood clotting. Inhibiting them helps reduce the blockage on the artery, reducing the impact of the heart attack." Said Harold, raising a finger.
Duncan glared at the Dweeb, frowning and smirking."Dorkahontas, can you end the medicine lesson? I'm trying to hear Geoff's story for the hundredth time."
Harold blushed and smiled sheepishly, showing his teeth."Oh, Sorry. I already ended. Please continue."
As I was saying, I began to run out of the room when I heard the crazy old lady again.
"Water. I need some water," she said in a weak voice.
I was like c'mon, I have to be at Green World at 13:00. So I ran down the hallway, filled a plastic cup of water, and gave it to the crazy old lady. I then slid down the handrail of the 3 floors and ran to my car. Took off the stockings and put on my cowboy hat. I just went away as the patrols were incoming, just in time.
So now I just had to go to the Green World and wait for Brody and Bridge. But as I was driving, I got a call from my girl.
"Hello, Bridgie Bear. Did you like the breakfast I made for you?" I told her, trying to hide my excitement.
"Yes Smoochie-poo. I can't believe I forgot our anniversary. Can you forgive me?" said Bridge in a sweet and apologetic tone.
I chuckled. It was AWESOME! The plan was working as planned. Well, for the most part. "No problem, Bridge. I have everything prepared for today. You only need to come to the Green World. I already made reservations."
Bridge then replied in a worried tone. "Eh? The Green World? And what about my mother?"
Well, dudes, I must say that those words make me shiver. And don't get me wrong. I love Andrea. She's like a second mother to me. But at that moment, it was like opening your garage and finding a moose inside your car.
"What about your mother, Bridge?" I asked her, trying to not sound too upset.
Bridge huffed at the phone. There was a tone of disappointment in her voice. "I told you she would come to visit us this week. I told Brody and even left you a note on your night table."
Damn Brody! He's an awesome dude. But he's easily distracted, and he forgets things pretty easily too. He'll have to give me some explanations about this.
Annotation: DJ
"I always wanted to ask you this. I mean, you always tell us how it was Brody's fault that you didn't know that Bridgette's mom was coming. But Bridgette left you a note. How can you explain that you also didn't read the note?" said the Jamaican guy, who had already finished his drink.
Geoff drank all his beer and licked his lips. "So Brody didn't tell me anything-"
DJ laughed at Geoff's attempt to avoid the question. But being DJ as kind as ever, he decided to give him some slack and not pursue the matter.
So Brody didn't tell me anything. But I have a great idea. "Sorry Bridge, but don't worry. Brody can pick up your mother at the airport."
Bridge stood silent for a moment. "Geoff, I'm not sure. Brody sometimes can be a little-"
"But Bridge, it's our anniversary. Also, Brody is like my younger brother. Don't worry, it'll be ok." I assure her. And it's true, he can sometimes be a little klutz. But when the time comes, you can always trust he'll do his best. Ok, almost always, I mean most of the time.
Bridge sighed, and when she sighs means she agrees with me. "Only because it's our anniversary. I'll tell my mother that Brody will pick her up."
Then it was decided. I called Brody, and told him to go and pick Andrea at the airport. While Bridge took a taxi to the Green World. The day started a little different from what I had planned. But from now on, all will be smooth as silk. Or at least I hoped it would.
It won't.
We arrived on time at the restaurant and took a table near the window. We asked all her favorite dishes. Some seaweed salad, for me an insipid tofu burger and for dessert woodsy mushroom, pear & chevre strudel.
Annotation: Owen
Owen smiled and stuck his tongue out, his eyes sparkling. "It all sounds DELICIOUS."
Geoff scratched his head. "I don't know, dude. The strudel was good, but the hamburger was lacking in the flavor department."
"Oh! It can't be that bad. It's a hamburger after all. And Tofu can be a great meal," said Owen, nodding.
"Anyway, let me continue," said Geoff, "but before that, can someone bring me another beer?"
Duncan stood up. "I'll go. I already know what happens next. It must be beer, or it can be any other drink?"
"Anything it's fine, dude, thanks. As I was saying-"
But the flavor wasn't important. The smile on Bridge's face was worth 10 hamburgers. We totally enjoyed the meal. Maybe it was because we were on our anniversary, or maybe because Brody was in all our lunches for the last 3 weeks. I don't know dudes. But it was the best meal we had had in ages.
After lunch, I was about to pay when I received a call from Brody. Looking at the hour he should have already picked up Andrea and must be in Bridge's place.
I answered the call leaving Bridge at the table for a moment. She raised her hand and told me something, but I didn't hear her.
"Hello, dude! How is it going? Are you already in the apartment?" I told him, thinking more on Bridge than on the call.
"Hehe, Hi, dude. Well, not exactly. I mean, I picked Miss Andrea up. But we aren't at the apartment, we're at the police department," Brody told me, sounding a little nervous.
"Why are you in the police department, dude? Did something happen? Is Andrea ok?" At that moment I thought that maybe they had been mugged or in an accident.
"Oh no, dude, no. We're fine. But they arrest me, and I need you to come and bail Miss Andrea and me out. hehe" said Brody laughing casually. That's my friend! Even in a situation like this, he'll try to laugh and look at the good side.
But I was too shocked to appreciate his positive attitude. "WHAT? WHY? Why did they arrest you?" I couldn't believe it. I felt like I was in a nightmare.
Brody chuckled. "It was because I saved a cat."
"Brody, that's impossible. They won't arrest you for saving a cat." I scratched my head. At this moment, Bridge was looking at me, raising an eyebrow.
"The problem is that the cat was in the middle of the street, so I have to drive through the sidewalk to avoid it. But the little kitty is ok. I'm so happy for it," Brody sounded joyful and proud.
I covered my eyes with my hat. "You drive Bridge's car on the sidewalk?"
"Yes but the car is ok," Brody said. I sighed with relief but it was a moment too earlier. "But I almost hit a granny who was on the sidewalk."
"You run over a granny?" I asked, horrified. Bridge heard me and ran next to me.
Brody gasped. "Of course not dude, I said almost." I also whispered that to Bridge to calm her. But Brody kept talking, "I ran over the guy who was talking with the granny."
I blanched. Bridge looked at me with wide eyes. "Geoff, What happened? Is my mom fine?
"Yes, Bridge, they're ok, give me a minute," I told her, covering the phone, then asked Brody again, "And is the guy you ran over ok?"
"I think so, but his bodyguards didn't let us see him after the accident," at that moment, I was going out of the restaurant. Bridge following me.
"Bodyguards? Did you run over a movie star or something?" I said while going into the car. Bridge, with a worried expression, sat next to me.
"Oh no, don't worry. He isn't famous. He's just the Vancouver's mhu-mhu-mhu." Brody coughed just in the crucial part of the call.
I leaned on my car's wheel. "Brody, I promise I'll not get angry. Can you repeat again, who was the guy?"
Brody chuckled nervously. "Vancouver's mayor."
I hang the phone and throw it into the back seat. Bridge glaring daggers at me.
"Geoffrey! Tell me exactly what happened." Bridge told me, frowning and folding her arms.
"It seems like Brody and your mother are in the police department for saving a cat." I told her while speeding up
Annotation: Tyler
"HAHAHA, My sides hurt. That was so EXTREME dude. Did he really run over the Vancouver's Mayor?"
Geoff took a sip of his beer. "Yes, fortunately, we could set all straight that same afternoon. There was a video, and Brody was clean."
"Yep. And that poor man only suffered a sprain and a concussion, so it wasn't so bad." Said DJ smiling.
Owen was trying to stop laughing at the story."And what happens next?"
"Geoff doesn't have any money, so Bridge paid the bail. They lost all afternoon and missed the walk on the beach. But Andrea convinced Bridge to go to the hotel with Geoff to see the surprise," said Duncan quickly while smirking at the party boy.
Geoff almost spitted his beer. "Hey, dude! You skipped more than half of the story!"
DJ looked at Geoff with a slight frown. "Man, we all have to tell a story tonight, and yours is pretty long. Just tell us about the date at the hotel. That is my favorite part." The Jamaican guy said in a forceful tone (or at least as forceful as DJ can sound.)
"All right dudes, let's jump to the last part," said Geoff rubbing his neck. "After parting ways with Bridge's mom and Brody-"
After parting ways with Bridge's mom and Brody, we went into the hotel. Bridge was still a little upset about what happened with her mother and the Mayor. But I was sure the surprise would make for it. We went to the 49th floor. With an awesome view of the city
"Geoff, this is beautiful," Bridge looked happily at the nocturnal skyline.
"And it's not all," At midnight, the guy that I hired shot the fireworks. In a moment, a blue heart lightened up the sky. Bridge's eyes were sparkling at the view.
And that was all.
Just ONE firework, C'mon I paid 50 bucks for the firework's show! Luckily it seemed enough for Bridge that was still smiling.
It was my chance. The day had been one of the worse days of my life. I had to break into my own office. My best friend and my girlfriend's mother were arrested for running over the Mayor. I lost the chance to walk on the beach with Bridge and was scammed by a prairie's firework maker.
But at least I have the brooch. Or at least I thought I had it. I tried to take it out of my pocket, and the box wasn't there. IT CAN'T BE! I mean,I was sure it was there. I search again in my pocket, in my shirt, in my hat. It was gone. The most awesome anniversary gift on the Earth was gone.
I sat in the bed, defeated. "Sorry, Bridge-bear. I just wanted to give you the best first anniversary you ever had, and it seems like as usual, I failed big time."
Bridge sat at my side and hugged me. "That's not true Geoff! It was wonderful. We eat at my favorite place, have dinner in this nice hotel, and you made me a pretty private firework show. And most importantly we're together. This was one of the best days I ever had. Well, I could live without my mother almost going to jail."
I was crying. I don't deserve such a woman. "Bridge, I love you Bridge!" I said and hugged her back. We then kissed tenderly as only she could kiss me.
But the best was to come. She looked inside her bag, "by the way, Smoochie-poo, you dropped this at the Green World. Is it for me?" It was the box! I dropped at the restaurant. See, it was the most awesome present, so awesome that it found its way to her.
"It's for you. Open it," I said with the biggest smile in Canada.
Bridge covered her mouth, his beautiful green eyes sparkling. "Oh Geoff! It's beautiful! But it must cost a fortune."
"We only have one first anniversary in our lives," I told her. I had prepared that line for the past three weeks.
We kissed and stayed in the hotel all night, going home after breakfast. Best Day Ever. I won't say too much, but we didn't sleep a lot that night.
Geoff's story, the end.
"Woo-hoo! Not bad Geoff. You're the man!" said Owen raising an arm.
Alejandro nodded with wide eyes. "It's true. But more surprisingly, was that you never touched Bridgette before."
"I can't believe I agree with EEljandro, but I'm also shocked. You seemed to be glued to each other since you started dating. I was sure you already sleep together on Island," said Noah, raising an eyebrow.
Geoff scratched his head. "Eh? What are you talking about? This is the story of how we celebrate our FIRST anniversary. Our first time is a longer story. Want to hear it? It was at playa de losers-""
Duncan spoke louder than Geoff, interrupting him. "Stop right there! One story per person."
"Duncan's right. It's time for my extreme story," said Tyler winking.
"Sorry, Jock. But I had this awesome story that I'm dying to tell you all. And like Owen's, it's a first-time story." Duncan smirked impishly and then drank all his orujo's shot.
Author Notes:
I hope you enjoy the story, I try to write a comedy of errors. I always put comedy in my stories, but this time I tried to write a full comedy. I hope you at least laughed once. Do you enjoy it? Or should I just use comedy in small doses?
Also some notes about the story, first Cougar is also a slang for older women who prefer dating younger men. That's why everyone was messing with him being an expert on cougars.
And I put some eastern eggs, Joanie is the name of Bridgette's cousin on Mr Panama Red fanfic 'Total Drama in new york'. And also, Andrea, Bridge's mom's name was taken from 'Total Drama life' by SilverSun09. I like the name so why not.
Now answering the reviews.
Fernanda15fa: I'm glad you enjoy it, and Eva's bed joke was one of my favorites. Just imagining Eva expression when they told her made me smile. I hope Geoff's story was as good as you expected.
amit. avrashmi: I'm a fan of the e-scope team, so I wanted to use it for the story. And also I always wanted to give the big guy a happy ending. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
And you were right, it was a date with Bridgette.
Total Simaniac: Hahaha, yes, I hope someone would find weird the coffee shop scene, it was too much like a movie's cliché, but was more romantic than the real story in a dinosaur-themed restaurant ;) I'm glad you enjoy it.
Annotation is a note that expands on a story, so I like it to use it, but to be honest, I could call them confessionals ;). I'm glad you like them and they didn't disrupt the story flow too much.
As always, thanks for reading and I hope you like it, no forget to review.
