It was the dead of night. The knights were on their patrols, so far it appeared to be a peaceful one.
A hooded figure ran along the dark streets of the town then stopped at the wall surrounding the castle. After being sure no one had seen him, he climbed the wall and dropped down into the courtyard. He grinned beneath their bandanna as he successfully made his way towards the castle itself.
One of the knights yawned as he made his way through the dimly lit corridors of the castle. His peers had given him the name Lieutenant due to it being his rank, that and no one had bothered to learn his name. He stopped for a moment to look around. He could have sworn he felt something go past him but alas no so he continued on his patrol.
Further along, Scarlet, Captain of the Royal Knights walked on with her head held high. She took pride in her duties of protecting the Royal Family from harm and was always ready to take on any foe who threatened their safety.
The hooded figure, now inside the castle, made a beeline for the vault. he ducked and weaved within the shadows as he expertly avoided the knights on patrol. He had even managed to pass Lieutenant on his travels without alerting him to his prescience. Although Lieutenant did stop for a brief moment. He was quiet pleased with himself when he managed to arrive at the vault undetected. He brought out a brown leather pouch from inside his cloak and filled it with silver and gold coins along with a few small jewels before secularly tucking it back inside his cloak.
Happy with his hoard, he began to make his way back out of the vault. Getting in seemed to be easy, getting out however proved to be far more difficult as he heard footsteps coming towards him. He spun round just in time to see the brave Captain Scarlet standing behind him. How did she manage to sneak up on him, no matter now he had to make a break for it.
Captain Scarlet was shocked to see the hooded figure appear from seemingly no where. However, it didn't take her long to snap back to reality and raise the alarm as she gave chase.
Lieutenant was still wondering down the dimly lit corridors when he noticed several knights running in the opposite direction. He stopped and wondered what had gotten them all riled up.
One knight stopped and yelled out, "don't just stand there, Lieutenant, move! We have an intruder!"
"Course we do" Lieutenant turned on his heel and ran down the corridor.
Meanwhile, the hooded figure bolted down the corridors, trying to hardest to loose the persistent Captain. He looked back briefly to see if he had managed to get her off his trail only to notice she was being joined by the absent-minded Lieutenant.
"Shit" he muttered under his breath
He then made the split second decision to jump into one of the rooms, slamming the door behind him. Looking around his new darkened surroundings, it appeared empty. He waited a moment to allow his eyes to adjust to the dark, taking the moment to catch his breath.
Moving away from the door, he took in his new surroundings. Large windows led out to a balcony, allowing a little of the moon's rays to enter the room. A rather nice looking bed, wardrobe, vanity, chest of draws and something small sitting atop a rather lovely looking table. He got in closer to have a better look only to be taken back when he noticed it was a crown. He realised he was in one of the royal bedrooms.
It was then he was suddenly struck in the back on the head with a small, hard object. He gritted his teeth and spun round to see a small, trembling figure standing behind him tightly holding onto whatever he had hit him with. The smaller man attempted to hit him again only this time he was ready for him. He caught his arm before he could make contact, catching him off guard, "nyeh"
"Hm?" he looked confused but grabbed the object out of his hand. He held it up to have a better look at it. "A frying pan?" he thought to himself, dumbfounded to see this was what his assailant had chosen to attack him with. He frowned at the thought of almost being bested by a kitchen utensil and threw it to the side before letting the smaller man go.
The smaller man stumbled back towards the moonlight, allowing the hooded man to have a better look at him. Silk night wear, brown curly hair, cute mustache and sapphire blue eyes. He looked rather cute. The smaller man straightened himself up then took a deep breath as he prepared himself.
"You dare harm me and you will regret it!" he warned.
The hooded man walked over to him, towered over the smaller man, "harm ya? Why would I harm ya?" he asked, rather confused at the situation he had now found himself in.
The smaller man had begun to tremble, "you threatened to… to harm my father and I" he claimed as he tried to keep his voice steady as to not show fear, "I will not allow you to do that!"
"Why would I want to harm you and your dad?"
Before he could get an answer, the hooded man heard a knock at the door followed by the Lieutenant's voice.
"Your highness? Are you in there, are you okay?" Lieutenant asked
A second voice followed, that of a woman, "your highness?"
Great, both Lieutenant and Captain Scarlet were outside the room, just his luck, "wait… highness?" he turned back to his highness, his eyes widened as he face palmed at his own stupidity, "Prince Reginald?"
Prince Reginald turned his attention to the door, "Captain, Lieutenant"
"Are you okay?" Scarlet asked
The hooded man took this opportunity to rush past the prince and ran to the balcony, hopping over the railing.
"I.." Prince Reginald turned to face the intruder, who was currently tiding some rope to the railing, "I am fine" he told them as he walked over to the hooded man. "Who are you?"
The hooded man looked back, his ruby red eyes starring back at the Prince's sapphire blue eyes. He gently took his smaller hand in his own and watched as Reginald move a few stay hairs away from his face. The door burst opened as Scarlet and Lieutenant ran inside, interrupting their quiet little moment.
"My Prince!" Scarlet called, readying her sword the moment she spotted the hooded man.
The hooded man gently placed a kiss on the Prince's hand making him to blush, "have a good evening your highness~" before letting go and sliding down the rope. One good yank brought it down, allowing him to quickly gather it up as he began to make his way back towards the town.
Lieutenant ran towards the balcony, stopping briefly to address his Prince, then jumped over the railing. He jumped off the balcony and landed with a thud on the ground bellow. He slowly pulled himself up, "where is Maximus when you need him?"
Maximus, Lieutenant's loyal horse was currently in the stables fast asleep. Possibly dreaming about apples, unaware of what his master's latest stunt.
Lieutenant and Reginald both watched as the hooded man disappeared into the dark of night. He sighed as he nursed his sore back, "he got away"
Scarlet approached her Prince and bowed before him, "your highness, are you okay? He didn't harm you, did he?"
Reginald turned to face Scarlet and shock his head, "no, he did not Captain, I'm fine"
Scarlet looked relieved, "good, I will personally take care of this" she stood up and made her way out his room, closing the door behind her.
Reginald nodded, "of course"
The hooded man ran back through the town, all the way to the outskirts. There he entered the slums, home of the unfortunate and, of course, thieves and undesirables. He walked along the dark path before going into one of the run down buildings. Once inside, he lit a candle as to have a better look at the place he called home.
His home was a cozy, or cramped depending on your point of view, little place. An old sofa sat in the centre of the room with a table in front of it, a patched up armchair sat at the end of the table. Behind them was a small makeshift kitchen, a workstation cluttered with tools and blueprints, a few books sat on a shelf above it and a small perch sat in the corner of the room. A set of stairs led to the second floor, not much was up there, just a few beds and a chest of draws.
"Home sweet home" he lifted up a loose floorboard then took out his leather pouch. He threw it down the hole then placed the floorboard back down.
He pulled down his hood and bandanna, revelling his long red messy hair and long mustache. Beneath his cloak he hand on a dark shirt, trousers and boots to match.
He sat himself down on the armchair and was about to settle in for the night when he heard the stairs squeak beneath someone's feet. Not bothering to get up, he looked round to see who it was.
A blonde hair youth stood at the bottom of the stairs. His blue, oversize shirt stopped at his knees and he was rubbing his blue and yellow eyes.
"You sure like making a racket when you get back" he yawned.
He chuckled softly to himself then stood up and approached the youth. He gently ruffled his messy blonde hair, "I'm sorry to wake you Sven. Go back to bed" Sven replied with a simple nod of the head, "love ya, Sven. I'll show you what I got in the morning"
Sven yawned, "sure thing… good night big brother"
He watched Sven head back upstairs before retiring to the armchair once again. He soon drifted off to sleep, chuffed at another job well done even if he was almost caught. Before he knew it, the sun rose as a new day begun.
