That night, Right ran through castle town as he once again made his way towards the castle. Managing to once again avoid the knights on patrol, he quickly made his way to the vault.
Having taken as much as he could carry, he left the vault. Having seen another guard coming towards his direction, he managed to trick them by rolling a coin over to them and knocking them out. "Night knight" he chuckled as he continued on his way. However, as luck would have it, he spotted Scarlet and Lieutenant coming his way. Without hesitation, he bolted into the first room he came across. Quickly scanning the familiar layout led him to realise he was once again in Reginald's chambers.
Reginald was standing on his balcony, looking up at the night sky as he reflected on the day's events. As he was about to make his way back into his room, he heard his door suddenly open and shut. This caused him to jump slightly. He quickly regained his composure and begun to scan his room to try and see who had came in. He froze when he saw a larger figure was now standing inside his room. The encounter gave him a sense of deja vu.
The two starred at each other in silence for some time. A loud knock at the door soon broke the silence which was then followed by Scarlet's voice.
"Your Highness? Are you alright?"
Reginald was about to speak when Right suddenly ran past him onto the balcony. Reginald turned to face him, "em… y-yes"
"Your Highness, the thief has stuck again. We believe he may be in your room" Scarlet informed him.
Reginald walked towards Right and carefully pulled his bandanna down. He looked shocked when he saw him, "R-Right? You are the thief?"
Right sighs, "aye, I'm the thief. You surprised?"
Reginald slowly nodded.
"Your Highness…? Forgive me" Scarlet kicked the door open and ran in. She spotted Reginald and Right standing on the balcony, neither of them having noticed her yet. She took this chance to storm onto the balcony and pin Right to the ground causing him to drop the bag full of stolen coins, "aren't so fast now, are you thief?" she gloated. "Thank you your Highness. You distracted the thief long enough for us to capture him"
Right looked up at Reginald who stood in silence. Reginald watched as Scarlet pulled Right back up onto his feet.
"But… you were so nice to me" Reginald said as he questioned if Right had known he was the Prince all along and if he and his friends had just pretended to be his friend, "I know it had only been a day but… were we ever friends?"
"Of course we're friends, your Highness" Right relied.
Scarlet laughed, "you and the Prince friends? Oh that's rich. The prince would never befriend scum like you"
"If we are friends then tell me, why is it neither of you are willing to address me by my name? Why must I only be addressed as your Highness or Prince, I have a name!"
"We were trying to be polite, we may live in the slums but we know how to be polite, Reginald" Right argued back.
Reginald was taken aback, it was the first time he had heard anyone address him by his name. He began to wonder if he had misjudged Right, "I will speak to my father and ask he allows you to go free despite your…" he glanced down at the bag of coins Right had dropped, "crimes"
"Great… thanks a lot Reginald" Right muttered.
Reginald watched as Right was dragged off to the dungeon by Scarlet, as Lieutenant followed closely behind. He sighed and leaned on the balcony, "what am I to tell father?"
Scarlet pushed Right into one of the cells, she watched as he tripped on the way in and slammed the door behind him. "Lieutenant, guard him while I patrol the entrance to the dungeons" she locked the cell door then turned and left, twirling the keys on her finger.
Lieutenant shrugged and sat down on the cold hard ground.
"Hey, you" Right called getting Lieutenant's attention, "let me out of here, I need to get home to my little brother"
"Love to but can't, not until the King says so" Lieutenant told him.
"You don't understand, I need to get out of here"
"And I can't betray the man who gave me a second chance" Lieutenant sighed, "sorry mate, it's gonna be a long night"
"Great…" Right sat on the bed with his head in his hands, "what am I gonna tell Sven? Hope he's safe and sound in bed" he sighed, "I had to get myself caught"
"Guess we have that in common then" Lieutenant said.
Right glanced up at Lieutenant, what did he mean by that he wondered.
Sometime later that night, a small hooded figure had managed to sneak into the castle. They had made their way down to the dungeon, managing to wait until Scarlet had her back to the door and sneak past her. They soon found Lieutenant sitting outside Right's cell. They quickly scanned Lieutenant and were disappointed when they noticed he didn't have the keys on him. They turned around and begun to search for the missing keys.
Scarlet had sat down briefly and had begun to twirl the keys on her finger once again. The smaller figure took note and brought out a small black orb from their bag. They threw it over towards the Captain, catching her attention just before it hit the ground and let out some thick, dark smoke.
Scarlet dropped the keys as she begun to cough, the smoke impairing her vision. Before the keys could hit the ground, the smaller figure had managed to dive down and catch them. They quickly scrambled onto their feet and made a mad dash back down to the dungeon.
Lieutenant was still sat outside Right's cell, the red head still sat on his bed. The small figure pulled out a small white orb and threw it towards Lieutenant. Right just about managed to see the orb in time to cover his eyes before it hit the ground, letting out a flash of light that stunned Lieutenant.
The small figure waisted no time as they rushed over to unlock Right's cell door. They surprised the taller man as they pulled them out of the cell and back up the stairs. Right soon decided to pick the smaller figure up and carry them out. The moment they were outside, the small figure whistled and a familiar horse came out of hiding.
Right was surprised to see Bess run over to them, he plopped the small figure onto Bess and jumped on after them. Bess then ran off back towards the slums.
Wilfred was in his room smoking a cigar when he heard a small knock at his door, "enter" he watched as the door opening revealing Reginald, "my son, are you alright?"
"I don't know" Reginald replied.
Wilfred took the cigar out of his mouth, "do you want to talk about it?"
"Our Captain captured the thief but… it doesn't feel fair keeping someone who clearly needs help locked away in the dungeon"
"This thief… you want to help him, don't you?" Reginald nodded, "then.. I give you permission to help him"
"Thank you father" Reginald gave him a small hug then made his way towards to the dungeon.
Reginald arrived at the dungeon and begun to look for Right's cell. He soon saw Scarlet and Lieutenant standing outside an open cell, the keys still hanging out the lock. As he got closer he noticed the duo looked confused.
"Captain? Lieutenant? What happened?" Reginald asked.
"Smoke bomb" Scarlet answered, "somebody smoke bombed me! Where is the thief?!"
"I have no idea, all I saw was a flash of light then, poof, he was gone" Lieutenant explained.
Scarlet suddenly realised she didn't have the keys on her, "the keys, where's the keys?!" Reginald meekly took the missing keys out of the lock and presented them to her, "you have got to be kidding!"
Bess soon arrived outside the shack. Once there, the small figure removed their hood.
"You won't get caught?" Sven looked at Right.
"Sven? How?" Right asked, "how did you know? They caught me off guard. It was the Prince, he… he somehow knew I was coming. He must have told the knights that I was coming"
"First off, it never takes you this long to get back home, we were worried okay. Secondly, how would he have known you were the thief or that you were coming? You never told him, all he knew was a thief had broken in the night before and someone is threatening his life" Sven pointed out.
"The both of you were sleeping, I would have been back by sunrise" Right told him.
"And if you weren't?"
Right hesitated, "I… don't know"
Sven hopped off Bess and headed inside. Right watched before getting off Bess himself. He brought her back to her stable then headed inside. He stood outside her stable and thought about what had happened.
"What if I never got out? What if Sven and Archie got captured while I was in the dungeon" he sighed as he realised how close to came to messing up.
