Sorry fo the re-upload, I saw a lot of errors and places where my dyslexia and ratty keyboard messed up.

Run, run, run, crashing through the undergrowth, avoiding tripping on the roots of the old trees, silent sentinels of this chase, this run from death, panting gasps flicking blood speckled foam from lips pulled far apart, the glinting smiles of cruel fangs ghosting in and out of the gloom beneath the branchs, thud thud of the silent paws mockingly loud behind and around him, heart freezing terror burnt by the adrenaline losing potency in his veins, run run run, no concious thought other than to run, to live, to escape.

Pain, agony, fear, the root that tripped his already cut and bleeding feet, breath whooshing out, a pain filled gasp spatering froth across rotten leaves, musceles screaming their spent agony, torn and quivering, bones aching and feeling like jelly he forced himself up, to run, before the teeth of the pack rent and tore into him, the howls and snarls seemed to delight in his agony and fear, he continued to run.

Alone, all alone, blood leaking from not so playful nips to his legs, he could`nt go on much more, but he would not accept death by the pack, he would escape, he would live, he would have his revenge he swore and so he kept on running, till he fell over the unseen rock into a steep gorge, skin and muscle tearing on the unforgiving sides, bouncing, ribs cracked knocking what little air his bruised and tired lungs had managed to grasp, until with an alomost forlorn splash into the river below, the frigid liquid replacing the hot hot hot burn of his lungs into the cold cold cold burn of water filling his lungs, muscels cramping from exhaustion and rapid shock, he was pulled under and over, the current tossing him around, his already breaking body began to break fully, a gasp of beautiful sweet sweet sweet air and back under, a toy for the raging river.

An unmutable time he spent in this hell, to be on the edge of drowned to be realeased for one less than adequate gasp of life giving air, until he felt the grasp of gravity waver and he was falling off the edge, opening sodden blinded eyes he could see below him the rocks that would break him, merciless, uncaring, as they broke all that fell upon them, if he could, he would scream, in fear, in anger, horror, desperation and hatred, and so Houndour fell.

After days of walking from the pallet fields and forest, treking up and through the Hideaway mountins and almost at the border of Johto, Ash was putting the finishing touches to his temporary lean to shelter, a small campfire danced in the morning breeze, just inside the treeline of the next forest he had to walk through on the Kanto side of the Silver mountain range, Ash reflected on his progress, living off the land was no true hardship so far, and most pokemon ran away from the human, the few agressive ones he had been able to use his knowledge to placate or, just by simply backing off and taking a diffrent way along the way he was taking, not that he had any plan, he was going where his feet took him, though after the last encounter of an ekans that he disturbed sunbathing, he knew it was time to find a pokemon to train, he was lucky he had some petcha and oran berries still in his bag from the bushes he had harvested the day before.

After streching and peeling off the last of the petcha and oran paste he had daubed onto his leg, where it was bitten by the ekans he saw that it was finaly healed enough for him to do more than the basic campsite duties, stoking up the fire he ate the last of the ekans jerky he had made after killing said pokemon `Right, first things first, I need to refill my canteen at the lake` Ash started planning the morning ahead to himself `then, I think some more berries, theres the oran, petcha, and kebia bushes near by still full of berries, the sitrus bush only has 3 berries, but looks to have more growing soon, theres magicarp in the lake I can catch and plenty of pidgys, and eggs as well, so... water, berries, maybe make some bird traps with the reeds, and see if I can get a magicarp` plan settled he snorted to himself remembering when was 8, the first time he was taught how to make traps, and to catch, kill and eat the pokemon around him, he remembered his tears as he killed his first pidgy, and how he threw up after the first bite, but he knew he had not much chioce, after all it was kill or be killed, while most pokemon would rather run from a human there were those who would atack and kill a human themselves, even eat them, the league was good at capturing and moving or putting down those that did, but you never knew when you would meet one, and after all, meat is meat, it was why newbie trainers, or those with under 3 years of training were encouraged to stay to the main routes, they were patrolled and generly weaker, but more human freindly or neutral pokemon lived around them, steping off in to the wilds however, was a risk, unless you knew what you was doing, around half would come back severly injured, traumatised or not at all. Ash was greatful to know and be taught what he had been, his musing were cut short as he meandered to the lake, ariving there, he looked around, smelling the air he took his time to note that he could not see any predeator pokemon ther lying in wait, noting the handfull of oddish with a single gloom were playing as a single sentret chirped from a bush nearby, the few pokemon around having become acoustomed to his preasnce over the last few days, he did nothing to them, and after the sentret watched him for a few more seconds it gave an all clear call and the oddish resumed playing, paying no attention to the strange two leg.

Stooping in the ankle deep waters, Ash waited untill the sediment settled and filled both his canteen and an empty plastic bottle that could hold around 5 liters, keeping his gaurd up he scanned the surface of the lake, a few magicarp splashed and the eyes of a politoad watched from deeper in the lake, all was calm, the pidgys called amongst each other and the sound of the waterfall to his left pounded against the rocks at the base of the falls, giving a sigh, he felt calmer in this place, though no matter how beautiful he was in the wild, it would never do to fully relax, wading back to the shore he took another look around, quickly putting the water on the ground he stripped and took himself chest deep into the lake to wash himself and the set of clothes he had been wearing, task done, he petted the magicarp that had come close and swam around him, going back to the shore line the dumb orange fish tried to follow him splashing in the shallows, Ash considered using his knife to kill it there and then, but that would make most of the other pokemon wary of him and flee, not the best situation if he wanted to continue to hunt the local populace, so with a smile on his face he asked the magicarp " Hey, Magcarp! your home`s pretty cool! do you want to see mine?" knowing that the fish pokemone could survive ouside of water for some time meant that he could go pick it up and carry the happily chattering pokemon back to his camp with no worries of it suffocating any time soon, once back at his campsite he promptly stuck his knife in the magicarp at the back of the head and cut its spine, the dumb fish never even knew it was dead.

Later that day, smoking the remaining half of the magicarp Ash heard the alarm calls of the sentret and the rustle of pokemon running through the undergrowth, grabing his knife he kept his eyes to the forest, the plain medow behind him, after a few minutes the silence after the alarm broke with a few pidgy calls, Ash waited a few more minutes as the local pokemon deduced the situation was all claer, untill he heard the sentret call Ash kept on his increased gaurd, after all, he could never fully relax in this place, after hearing the sentret call Ash retured to the fire, noting he had knocked over the large 5ltr bottle, he sighed but picked it up to take a 2 minute trek back to the lake, it was while he was there his scanning eyes saw a lump floating away from the bottom of the water fall, seeing the blood staining the water around the thing, Ash imediatly wanted to, 1 go and help, but his more pragmatic side knew that whatever had fallen over the falls was most likely dead, and that if it was an edible pokemon he could get more meat to smoke and preserve, so, placing the battle back on the ground he waded out to the floating, bleeding pile of fur, poking it revealed no response, pushing it to the lakes egde he thought it dead and safe until the quietest of whimpers was heard, Ash immediatly jumped back, no matter how injured or as small as it was compared to others he had seen and studied a houndour pup was still dangerous, and houndoom were known man hunters, not eaters, but hunters all the same, Ash continued to look around him one eye always on the pup, he knew this wasent the habitat for houndour, that was more west, higher up the mountain range and most lived in Jhoto proper, hearing the whine again Ash`s young heart caved, he took off his jacket to wrap around the drenched pup, also as a safety precaution, to wrap and hold the pups paws and claws underneath it and to cover its eyes, to hopfully make it calmer, he knew as soon as he wrapped it, the pup had broken legs, they flopped uselessly and it whined once more, Ash started talking in a low soothing voice he had learnt at the Corral, "Easy, easy now, Ive got you, now then, lets get you to camp and get to fixing you up boy, or uh girl, easy I got you" Getting back to camp he laid the wet pile of fur near the fire, the pup was too wet, too cold and Ash knew it would take a miricle for the pup to survive, going over to the other side of the fire he pulled some magicarp meat from the carcass, some oran berries and started to mush them in a bowl, looking around he relaised he had left his water at the lake, dashing back he also picked one of the 3 sitrus berris from the bush, adding that to the mush and pouring in a little water so the pup only had to lick it up, therefore less stress on what Ash guessed was a broken jaw aswell as the broken teeth inside, he placed the bowl next to the little houndours head, and he encouraged it to try a few licks, where it then promptly fell unconcious, stoking the fire to produce more heat Ash gently unwrapped the pup and started to splint the legs, glad the pup was sleeping otherwise it would have been in terrible pain, he also cleaned as best he could the mirriad of cuts, slashes, scrapes and bites with some oran berry juice, relying on the antiseptic and healing powers of the berry, glad he had decent supply of bushes in the forest and medow around him. Ash cleaned off his hands and set about the rest of his chores around the campsite, but still recovering from the ekans bite he had to stop and take a nap in the early afternoon.

Waking up in the evening, the dusk settling in around, he groggily walked to the dim fire, stoking it and placing on a few more small branches and a thick log he moved to see to the houndour, hearing it whine as he touched a particulay nasty cut he stopped and started talking to the pup, noting its eyes were now swollen shut, "Hey there, Im sorry that hurt but Ive got to look after you, do you want some more food?" so saying he took the bowl and placed it infront of the pups nose, houndour however did`nt understand, waking in pain, unable to open his eyes the horror of the last few days swirling in his mind, he felt fear, Ash`s hand was the pack leaders paw holding him down, declaring he was not good enough, the runt, the malformed, and that all he could do now was to run, run and entertain the pack before being torn apart to feed his littermates on their first hunt, his elder brothers and sister eyes lit up with bloodlust, joy and anticipation, he called for his mother but she would not look at him, instead she walked to the alpha and started the howl, the howl of a blood hunt, he had no choice, he ran, betrayed, but as he swore he would have revenge he lunged forward and smoke slithered out of his maw, not sparks not even a flame, untill a flicker, a single flame, but not a normal flame, oh no, a poisoned flame, a flame of the dammend shutterd around his broken fangs as they sank into the to slow to move human child who was mid yawn, who in houndours raveged broken mind was his father, and so with the screams holwing in his ears houndour died happy in the knowlege he had had his revenge, unknowing it was Ash not the alpha he had bit.

Ash screamed, the lunge and bite from the broken pup unexpected, dousing his arm with water from his bottle and canteen did nothing, the exquisite agony of hell fire still played with him, dancing along his nerves dashing to the lake, tears streaming out of unseeing eyes he dove into the water, still no releif Ash stumbled and fell, over come by pain fainted on the lakes edge, the fang fragment that had pierced his skin continued to burn.
