A/N: Hello lovelies. It's been a very long time since there's been an update of any sort. So here's a short one. Enjoy!
OOOOOOOOO
Sadie adjusted her grip on her jacket as she looked up at Emmett. "I was out with some people I can almost call my friends. But I don't see why you care or why I have my self to explain to you. You aren't my keeper."
The wolf tried to slide past the vampire, but Emmett blocked her path. Sadie made a small annoyed sound and looked up at him once more.
"You should know that you made a lot of people worried," Emmett said, glaring at her. "No one knew where you were or if you were okay. Not even Alice. Do you know how it felt not knowing where someone you care about had disappeared to? You could have been dead for all that we knew."
Something tightened in Sadie's gut. "It's not like someone's going to kill me around here, Emmett. The only person that I think could want to kill me is your lovely Rosalie." She shook her head. "If it makes any difference, I was with Sam and his wolves."
"I thought that you didn't want to become his pack mate."
"I don't. I just needed him to answer some questions." Sadie glanced past Emmett. "Can I get by now? I need to put on some dry clothes and get something to eat. And most likely answer some questions from Carlisle and Esme."
Emmett put his hand on Sadie's arm when she tried to move past him. Something had softened in his eyes. "Sadie, please don't run off like that again. You are very important to people around here and…well, just don't run off again."
Sadie looked up at Emmett for a long moment in silence, looking into his eyes for answers that she did and didn't want. She gave him a small smile and nod.
"I'll try not to run off without telling Alice about it first," she said.
That seemed to satisfy Emmett enough for him to move aside. Sadie started down the road once more and pulled at the dampened ponytail that she had made of her hair. Emmett moved alongside her, his hands shoved in his pockets.
"So," he began, glancing at her sideways.
"So what?"
"Why are you all wet? Did someone dump you into a pool or something?"
A small smile twitched at Sadie's lips. "Someone knocked me off a cliff and into the ocean a few times," she explained with a little laugh in her voice. "And no, they didn't do that to hurt me. It was actually all in fun and was supposed to help relieve the stress that all of this chaos has put onto my shoulders." She bumped her elbow against his. "I'd offer you the chance to do some cliff jumping, but you aren't allowed on that piece of land and I don't think you're bitter half would be amused by the idea that you were plunging hundreds of feet into the cold water with this annoying wet wolf."
"I don't really care what Rosalie thinks right now," Emmett admitted. "She's getting super moody and won't let me have any fun without biting my head off. I know we've been doing the same damn dance for decades, but this go-round seems to be a really bad one."
"Maybe that's because someone entered the family circle that shouldn't have," Sadie muttered, looking away from him. "I know that my presence at the Cullen house isn't making her any happier because of the race difference, but she shouldn't be afraid that I'm going to take the attention from her. I know how to blend in and mind my own business. I've done it before. I can be invisible."
Emmett laughed.
"What?"
"There is no way in hell that you're going to be invisible, Wolf Girl." He tapped the side of his nose. "A wolf can't hide their scent from a vampire and girl, your scent is so noticeable to everyone." He let his hand drop. "Some more than others."
Damn! Sadie frowned and adjusted her grip on her jacket once more. "Well, I'll just have to try harder to leave as little of a mark as I can. I wouldn't want to hurt the Bitch Queen's pride any more than I already have."
A soft cry passed through Sadie's lips when she tripped on something and careened forward. Emmett reached out, catching her in his arms. Sadie looked at his chest and then up into his eyes, holding her breath in a vain attempt to not breathe in his scent. Her heart raced when she saw the look in his eyes, his face inches away from hers.
Kiss him. Kiss him. Kiss him.
Sadie pressed her hand against his chest and gently pushed him away. "Thanks for the assist, Emmett," she muttered, standing on her own feet and dodging the object that had tripped her. "But I think I can manage the rest of the way."
Emmett held her in the circle of his arms for a second longer, staring down at her. Sadie pressed her hand against his chest once more, seeming to wake him from a daze. He released her and took a step back, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Um….you up for a run later?" he asked, not looking at her directly.
"If I'm not grounded to my room for the rest of time, maybe." Sadie turned and started walking once more. "But you should probably talk it through with Rosalie first because I don't need her to rip me a new one."
OOOOOOOOO
Alice had decided that Sadie was going to go into the city with her that night instead of letting her go running with Emmett. Sadie had wondered what had made the psychic vampire make that decision until she heard the first expensive object break and saw the pained look on Jasper's face. She had immediately jumped into Alice's vehicle and let the vampire speed away from all of the problems in the Cullen house.
"Did you have fun with the other wolves?" Alice asked quietly, walking with Sadie through the expensive clothes store. "I hear that jumping from really high places is good for the heart."
"It was nice," Sadie muttered, plucking at the clothes that she would never have worn if she had been back home with her own pack. "It cleared my mind for a little while. Made me forget what I was running away from."
"I know you're not talking about your past now," Alice said, peering over the racks at Sadie. "You're talking about a completely new problem that you don't want to deal with."
"Alice…"
"Come on, Sadie. I'm your best friend. You can tell me anything." Alice moved around the rack and put her hands on Sadie's arms, squeezing lightly. "Tell me what's going on. Tell me, tell me, tell me!"
Sadie shook her head. "It's nothing, Alice. Really." She winced when she saw the look in her friend's eyes. "Don't. Don't do that. Not that psychic thing, Alice."
"Then you'd better start talking."
The wolf sighed and looked at the clothes, rather than her best friend. She ran her fingers over the rich fabrics. "Sam told me that what I'm dealing with right now is natural for wolves, but not natural at the same time. I'm sure you've heard of Imprinting." Alice nodded and Sadie continued, "He said that's what I'm dealing with right now. With someone that I wish I didn't."
"Explain in a clearer way, darling," Alice ordered.
"I've Imprinted on Emmett," Sadie said in a rush. "And I think that he's Imprinted on me in the way that vampires can."
Alice's mouth dropped open in a large 'O' as she stared at Sadie. Sadie frowned and moved off, wrapping her arms around herself, holding back her pain. She shook her head at the thought that everything was going to be revealed to the entire Cullen family now that she'd told Alice about this Imprinting business.
Alice wouldn't do that to me, Sadie reminded herself, staring at a pretty midnight blue sundress. She's been my best friend ever since I came to Forks. She's been my advocate and my shoulder to cry on. She would never betray me to the rest of the house. Edward and his mind reading on the other hand…
"Sadie, I'm sorry," Alice said, hurrying over. "I didn't think that this could be happening. And to someone like you and Emmett." She frowned. "No wonder Rosalie is being such a bitch."
Sadie's eyes saddened. "You don't think that she knows that there's a supernatural connection between Emmett and me and has known it from the moment that she saw us interact for the first time?"
"Rosalie is smart in her own right, but I don't think she's that smart." Alice shook her head. "She could have some kind of sixth sense though. You are a pretty girl, Sadie, and you are athletic. Two things that she could see as a threat, especially since Emmett likes both qualities…But, I don't think that Rosalie knows about the Imprinting or anything. She's just being an overprotective brat."
Sadie nodded and picked through the rack of the blue sundress, looking for her size and the price. Her stomach was still uncomfortably tight at the thought that Rosalie knew about her and Emmett, even though nothing had happened between them.
Yet.
"Can I ask you one personal question, Sadie?" Alice asked, pulling out the right dress and handing it to the wolf.
"Only one."
"Do you love Emmett?"
OOOOOOOOO
