A/N: Hello lovelies. Things haven't been going very well here. But I've been trying to keep up with as many projects as I can. Unfortunately that hasn't been going well either…I did publish a new book though, so yay? Anyway, I've got a short update for you…I hope you're okay with that.
OOOOOOOOOOO
Sadie looked at the Cullens as they held an emergency meeting in Carlisle's home office, sans Rosalie. Seeing as she was the cause of this, she wasn't allowed in the group, but everyone knew she was probably still listening in. Walls were kind of thin in the house and vampires had too good of hearing.
Sadie had never seen them look so serious as they conversed quietly about something called the Volturi. A name, 'Jane' was passed around because that seemed to be the greatest threat, though Sadie didn't know why.
"Will someone clue me in, please?" Sadie asked, wrapping her arms around herself. "I'm not exactly up to date on the vampire government logistics and I have literally no idea what's going on here."
Emmett wrapped his arm around her and looked at Carlisle for help. Carlisle took a slow, unnecessary breath and looked towards Sadie.
"The Volturi was the ruling class of the vampires. They are the oldest, the most powerful, and the most threatening. They enforce the rules and they enforce them rather well…in very strict and disturbing ways sometimes. But they can play fair when they want to."
"Name one time," Jasper said, rolling his eyes.
Carlisle ignored him. "But to have Rosalie contact them now, puts two people in danger. Bella and you, Sadie."
"I can understand Bella being a danger because she looks like a helpless snack as a human among vampires," Sadie said, folding her arms over her chest and ignoring the dirty look that Edward sent her way. "But why is it so bad about me? Why am I in danger?"
"Because they've hunted actual werewolves down and made them extinct, according to their boasting. You are a shapeshifter, but they'll see you as something that they can take down in a hunt and have fun destroying."
"Unless they just want to have Jane have her way with her," Edward said, staring at Sadie like he wished that this Jane would.
You're a douche, Sadie thought, mentally flipping him the bird.
Edward rolled his eyes and looked away, shoving his hands in his pockets.
"What makes this Jane so scary?"
"She inflicts pain beyond imagining with her mind," Alice said cheerily. "It leads to people going insane and then dying. Including vampires."
Sadie stared at her best friend, going pale. "Could you say that anymore perkier?"
Alice blinked and looked confused. "Um…"
Sadie shook her head and disengaged herself from Emmett's arm. "I…I need some fresh air…"
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Emmett followed Sadie out of the house and into the night, concerned instantly that she would run away. Sadie threw her hands up into her hair, still damp from her shower and tugged at her dark locks. She let out a little frustrated sound and her body shook.
"Sadie," Emmett said softly. "It's going to be okay."
"How? How can you say that it's going to be okay?!" Sadie demanded, turning to look at him with bright eyes. "Thanks to your ex, we're getting the fucking vampire government on our asses and they're sending their literal torture device on me! How the hell is that supposed to lead to everything being okay?!"
Emmett flinched and he put his hands on her shoulders, holding her in place, afraid that she would flee and he'd never find her again. "You know that I won't let anything happen to you, Wolf Girl. I'd fight armies from Hell just to keep you safe for an eternity."
Sadie shook her head and looked down at the ground. "I can't believe that the danger keeps following and getting worse and worse…It's like I'm some kind of bad luck charm."
"Never."
"Emmett…"
"Your birthmark on your back is a literal four leaf clover, Sadie," Emmett commented with a smirk. "You can't possibly be a bad luck charm."
Sadie reached up blindly and smacked him on the chest. "You weren't supposed to notice my birthmark."
"Too bad. You're my girlfriend. I have to notice everything about you." He smirked. "Like you've got a little cluster of freckles on your…"
Sadie smacked him again. "Shut it!"
Emmett laughed and spun her around, lifting her into his arms and holding her tight. He peppered her face with kisses until she was giggling and threw her arms around his neck. Emmett smiled and looked at her, resting his forehead lightly against hers.
"You're safe with me, no matter what. We're going to fight this. Be diplomatic. Be whatever that it takes to make sure that those crusty old bastards from the Volturi never touch you – physically or mentally."
Sadie poked him on the nose. "Then we're going to do something about Ms. Bitch Face, right?"
Emmett smirked at her. "Of course we are."
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Sadie looked up at Emmett as he kissed her, rolling his hips into hers slowly. She felt like her body was made of liquid fire as he moved with her. He was taking her from one high to the next to the point that she felt like she was soaring in the clouds and she never wanted to come down as long as she was with him.
Sadie…you're not supposed to be with someone that is not your kind…
The wolf blinked, not familiar with the sound of the voice in her head.
You're a vile, stinking wolf. You should never taint the skin of a vampire…
Sadie's breath caught in her chest as the vision above her changed.
She was staring into cold red eyes and a woman's face, hauntingly cold and beautiful. Sadie cried out as pain coursed through her body and she thrashed on the bed.
"Sadie!"
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
A/N: And we're going to cut it there. Thanks for the support that keeps coming despite the big gaps between updates. I'm trying, you lovely people. I really am. -Scarlet
