In all of Bella's efforts in trying to free herself from Edward; she had forgotten that Jake had something else for her for her birthday. The days never lined up and Bella often wanted to meet Jake at La Push for safety even though his house was also on Quileute land. She wondered what Jake had in store for her since whatever the other gift was, it had to be pretty big. Sure it was four months overdo, but to be late then never get it at all. Now that Edward was going to be out of her picture, Bella was free to see whoever she wanted. Bella drove to Jake's house in her red truck and was excited to see him. Jake was always a good friend to her and Bella hoped to be a better one. Alice, Cynthia, and Julian didn't mind Bella spending time with others and they actually encouraged her. They wanted Bella to be happy and that meant having friends to spend time with as well.

Bella got out of the truck and went to give Jake a hug. Jake smiled as he hugged back and he felt Bella was different. He pulled away and saw Bella smiling and not looking so shy and awkward. Jake had a feeling Edward wasn't her boyfriend anymore but he would wait until Bella brought it up.

"Hey Bella, so glad you're finally over. I was beginning to think you didn't want your other present." he joked.

Bella chuckled softly and just nodded.

"Yes well I needed to do a couple of things and well...I wanted to be sure Edward was out of my life."

Jake smiled a bit at that news but still asked,

"Meaning you're not dating him anymore?"

Bella nodded.

"He was a manipulative and abusive asshole. But I would rather not talk about him much anymore if you don't mind."

Jake nodded in agreement and he hoped Edward never came by him or else Edward would get a beating from him. How dare he ever hurt Bella but at least Bella looked so much better and happier.

"Now I do have to warn you, it's a bit of a fixer upper. Do you remember what we talked about the last time we were at La Push?" Jake asked.

Bella thought for a moment and replied,

"Yes about how you were fixing up a motorcycle for yourself because you wanted the wind in your hair. Owning a motorcycle sounds amazing and it is one of my dreams to have one."

Jake grinned slightly and led Bella to his garage. He opened it to show his motorcycle, a Harley Sprint but Bella also saw another old motorcycle, a 1960s red Honda. It clearly needed a lot of work but Bella loved how it looked. It dawned on her what Jake meant by her gift being a fixer upper and looked at Jake with hopeful yet soft eyes. He would...he wasn't...was he really?

"This one here is yours but it will need some fixing up. I'm a bit of an expert and I thought we could fix yours up together and maybe work on mine as well. It can be something we can do together."

Bella was speechless. Jake had gotten her a motorcycle and he wanted to help her fix it up. Jake truly was a good friend that he remembered her talking about wanting a motorcycle. He was one of the only few she confided in about wanting to own and ride one since she was still figuring herself out at the time. Still, she felt a bit guilty that Jake did this for her and she hadn't been the best of a friend to him.

"That a huge deal Jake, I mean I haven't really been around much or been much of a friend since Edward. Why would you build me a bike?" Bella asked

Jake chuckled softly and answered,

"So that we can go riding together and have loads of fun. I mean hearing you talk about motorcycles brought such a shine in your eyes that I wanted to do this for you. It was freedom you wanted and I want to be a part of it in some way. Now that Edward is gone, you can do what you want and I want you to have this"

Jake was being sweet but Bella wondered if he would still be that when she told Jake about Alice. She had a feeling Jake wanted to be more than friends someday but that wasn't going to be the case. Bella needed to be honest but she would share that news with him if he tried pushing for more.

"Can we start working on the bike now? I'm so excited to get on the road on this thing!"

Jake chuckled and smiled at Bella's enthusiasm.

"Sure thing Bella. This is going to be fun."

They got the parts out and ordered pizza so they could eat as they worked. Jake was oddly surprised Bella was good with her hands and was quick to know what tools were needed to take the bike apart and how to connect parts. The more he learned about Bella, the more he cared and liked her. There was something about Bella that was special and he knew he wanted her in his life.

"Something tells me this was always part of your list of things you wanted to do?" Jake grins. Bella chuckled and nodded

" Oh yea it is. I wanted to do this for so long, now I actually can." Bella said happily.

Jake smiled a bit since Bella had confided in her about wanting to take long rides on a motorcycle and be more adventurous.

"We still need to worry about Charlie. I don't think he will want his only daughter to own a motorcycle yet. Can you imagine pulling up in this and flaunting it in the driveway?" Jake chuckled.

Bella did think about that and Charlie would not like the motorcycle at all. He saw them as a death trap and he would possibly have a heart attack if she got a motorcycle behind his back.

"I'm hoping maybe we can convince him and he might come around. Otherwise, I might have to keep it with you until I graduate. I've worked hard to figure out what I want to do and who I want to be, that includes wanting this beauty." Bella stated.

Jake was taken slightly aback by the 'who I want to be' line but he let that roll off his back as he handed Bella a wrench.

"When you were with Edward...what did he do to you? Sounds like it was a lot worse than I thought." Jake asked with a slight frown.

Jake knew the Cullens were vampires and that some can have special talents. He soon got very protective and Bella sighed in anger; not at Jake but at Edward.

"He hated that I was my own person, well trying to be. He wanted me to be ladylike and weak, and when I went against him he would hate that. Sometimes I would hear him in my head judging me and making me feel sick. He would even try to have his way with me but thankfully he never got that far." Bella said not meeting Jake's eyes as she worked on the bike

Jake felt a bit of his anger rising but he tried to keep calm. Edward however was a dead man as far as Jake saw since how dare he do that to Bella. No wonder Bella seemed unhappy and it was because Edward was such an abusive person. Thankfully he seemed to be out of Bella's life and that Bella can spend more time with him.

"Thankfully I broke up with him. I don't need his abuse or toxic nature in my life."

Jake managed to smile at that since that meant he and Bella had a chance he thought. Although he needed to come clean to Bella about something before he could even go on.

"I'm guessing Edward didn't take it well did he?"

"He hated it… good though.. I can be my own person and be with someone I truly choose and not someone who manipulated me." Bella said.

Jake nodded as he continued to work on the bikes with Bella. She had to know he thought and went to grab another slice.

"I was worried about you for a while Bella." Jake started as he munched on his third slice.

" Well you weren't the only. Why were you worried?" Bella asked

Jake sighed as he finished his slice.

"Because the stories my father told me about the Cullens being cold ones...I started to believe him when you weren't coming around and that you seemed to be...drained when I saw you with Edward."

Bella sighed and nodded.

"Well that's because he drained life out of me with his behavior. I felt like a caged animal with him. Um say Jake, when you told the story about the cold ones, vampires...what about the werewolves in the story. You did mention something about them, right?"

So Bella had paid attention to the whole story and not just the cold ones Jake thought. Good he thought since he worried Bella was only narrowly focused on the cold ones since she was dating one. He sighed and nodded.

"Yeah well...you know what the Cullens are right?" he asked.

Bella nodded. Jake rubbed the back of his head and averted Bella's gaze. He was worried about how Bella would take his news. Hopefully, somewhat well since she knew about vampires but he was still rather on edge about something he couldn't change about himself.

"Well I don't want any secrets between us. I don't know when, but I feel it in my bones that I might become a werewolf in the near future. If you hear from me and I'm sickly, that's my body undergoing the process. After that...I'll be a werewolf like a lot of my friends have already become."

Bella looked at Jake trying to see if he was screwing with her, but he was serious.

"You're a werewolf ?" Bella asked

Jake nodded.

"Yes Bella, I'm a werewolf. Or I guess I will be one. The fact that vampires are around ensures that we will also be around as well. I was worried Edward was breaking our treaty but I couldn't do anything...yet. Once I am able to shift into a wolf and he comes by, I will be able to protect you. That is, if you still want to be friends after this."

Bella was taken aback at first, but she also knew it took Jake a lot to share this secret with her. He was still her friend, just one that can become a wolf. She cracked a smile and patted his hand.

"Of course I want us to be friends, Jake. You're very sweet, kind and supportive. Just wish I can be a better friend and now I can be."

Jake breathed a sigh of relief.

"You were a good friend, Edward was just being an asshole. I'm glad you were smart enough to see he wasn't the one for you."

Bella laughed lightly and than asked,

"So will you change every full moon or was that a myth made up for humans?"

"We have freedom when we can shift into wolves, it's not time dependent. However, it can come out without warning when we are upset or angry. I just didn't want you to be scared of me."

"I can never be scared of you Jake. You're becoming like a best friend to me and I do see us having a lot of fun times together, including riding these motorcycles." Bella told him with a warm smile.

It made Jake feel good that Bella wanted him in his life, but he did hope for more than friends.

"Just friends?" Jake asked.

Bella sighed and there it was. It was her turn to share a big secret of hers and hopefully Jake would be just as warm to the news, or at least accept it. People have lost friends and family coming out and Bella hoped she would still have Jake after all this.

" Jake, we can only ever be friends. Nothing more" Bella said.

"I get it. You just left that asshole and you need time to get over him. I understand completely."

Bella took a deep breath and shook her head.

"I am a lesbian Jake, we can't ever be more than friends. I like girls and I'm only going to see you as a friend, maybe a brother but nothing romantic. I'm sorry." Bella said

It was Jake's turn to see if Bella was screwing around with him, but Bella was serious. Jake's eyes widened slightly at the news and at first was a bit upset at the news.

"It's not that Edward swore you off men is it?" he asked.

Bella chuckled at that since it could have looked like that, but this was beyond Edward.

" No, it was not just him. Hate to admit it partially because of him that I realized it. I always wondered about liking girls, but now I know for sure. What Edward and I had was messed up but, I had some help and I know who I am and who I am attracted to. It felt wrong with Edward on all levels, including his sex and gender. He's not someone I want to be with period gender aside but I've had this attraction to girls that I'm now accepting and embracing." Bella said

Jake looked at Bella and she did seem more free and confident. He at least wanted Bella in her life and knew he had to accept it. Bella was not going to lose him and at least he knew that he and Edward had no shot with Bella now. So long as Bella was happy, that should be enough for him even if he did like her that way.

"Maybe we can at least cruise on the motorcycles to pick up chicks together. You would make for a hot biker chick for someone." he joked.

Bella found that amusing and he was oddly accepting. She knew Jake had a crush on her and he was at least trying. He was a kind person and she felt like Jake wouldn't out her to anyone since word can spread fast here. However, he might not be so keen on the next news considering his hatred for vampires.

"Cruise, yes sure, but you will be picking up girls on your own. I sort of already like someone." Bella chuckled.

She was relieved Jake was not an asshole about it. She knew it cannot be easy for him so him trying to be funny was a nice change. Jake put two and two together from Bella's birthday and he nodded.

"I think I already know who." Jake said with a slight grin even though he wasn't happy it was another vampire.

Bella raised an eyebrow.

"Oh, do you? Care to share your thoughts?" Bella asked chuckling

Jake scoffed somewhat playfully and answered.

"Edward's sister, the one with the pixie cut. You seemed to really love her breasts against yours on your birthday. Then again, you seem to just love her period."

Bella blushed intensely. She did love Alice's beasts but also a lot more.

"Wow, a blunt way to put it, but yes. There's more to Alice than her looks though. She is wonderfully sweet and she makes me feel all the best things, things I can do and the person I can finally be. She encourages me and supports me. Not once did she force me to do anything and she wants me to be happy as I want to be. Fact she is beautiful is just something extra but it's her whole personality and being I fell in love with." Bella said

Jake could see how Bella liked Alice, vampire or not. It would be awhile to get used to but he wasn't going to fight Alice over her since he clearly would not have Bella. He would not force himself on Bella or that would just make him Edward. The best Jake can ask for is Bella being able to see him and for Alice to treat her better than Edward ever did.

"Not my type but I can't help who you're in love with. So long as you're living your life happily, I'm not going to judge you like you hadn't judged me."

" We are still going to be friends aren't we?" Bella asked.

Jake was a good friend, a genuine friend and she did not want to lose that.

"Depends, will you not blow me off this time and make more efforts to see me?" he asked with a raised eyebrow.

"I won't. I do love being with Alice, but the best thing is with her I can also have my space and she respects it. So I can spend time with my friends." Bella said with a smile.

Jake grinned as he looked at Bella's motorcycle.

"Good since your bike won't fix itself up. I'm glad you're happier and not going to lie, I was this close to ripping him to shreds once I became a werewolf." Bella laughed and smiled.

"Get in line since I want to someday get my revenge for all the crap he pulled on me. If he doesn't like me being strong, he's going to suffer eventually."

Jake did have a nagging feeling Bella was going to become one of them and that did upset him. However, he was going to be with Bella for however long they had.

"So...does Alice know you're here?" Bella nodded

"Yes I told her I was going to meet you, she is fine with it." Bella said sweetly.

"Good but don't be surprised if she someday calls me a dog once I become a werewolf. Apparently we smell awful according to vampires. Leeches….I mean vampires have a sick and nasty odor to us too." Jacob explained.

Bella shrugged

" Well I am not getting between whatever you have with vampires. I want to be happy and not cause a war. You need to be open that I'm in love with a female vampire and that we're both happy together." Bella said

Jake nodded and he looked into Bella's eyes. Someday those eyes will be gold and her skin even paler than it already was. Part of him will die that day but Bella's mind and heart were dead set on Alice.

"I'm trying not to be so...stubborn. If it was Edward and you would always be with him, I would be pissed to hell. However...you can't help being born a lesbian like I can't help being a werewolf. In some ways we both came out to each other today. It will take some time but I think we can accept our differences and still be good friends right?"

Bella smiled and nodded

" Yea I guess we did, and we are still friends. We will adjust to these changes but I appreciate you being supportive Jake"

Jake hugged her tightly and smiled slightly.

"Anything for you Bella. Plus it's not like I can get a sex change." Bella laughed.

"Sorry Jake but no. It's always going to be Alice since we are each other's mates. You understand right?"

Jake nods.

"Again, it's something that will take me some time. It might hurt me now but...you being happier means I need to thank Alice in some ways. Least she's not controlling and a cold asshole like Edward is right?"

"Complete opposite. She's bubbly, outgoing, sweet, fashionable, and just a kind and passionate soul. We will have our first Valentines day as a couple soon. I'm excited for it and I'm glad Edward didn't get to have one with me so this will be even more special." Bella said.

She knew it probably sounded corny a bit but she didn't really care. She was going to spend a day of love, or a weekend with Alice; her one true love.

"Does anyone else know about you two?" Jake asked. Bella nodded.

"Just Alice's sister Cynthia and her boyfriend, and now you, no one else. We want to come out on our own terms."

"Good to know so I don't blurt it out to Charlie on accident. He might be okay with it, but you should be the one to tell him. Now let's do a bit more work today so you can go home. We will need several more days to finish but we did a lot today." Bella smiled and nodded.

Bella was very pleased with how her day with Jake went. She had a motorcycle she truly wanted to fix up and ride and both of them came out in some aspects. Both accepted one another even though the news would take some time for both of them to accept. One thing was certain, Bella had someone else in her corner and she was glad Jake was going to be at her side no matter what.

Author note time-So Bella will still have her motorcycle from the original canon, just changed how she got one. Since Edward is already an asshole in this fan fiction, I'm redeeming Jake in this one. In my head for this fanfic, if Bella likes women Jake can't compete no matter what. He knows what it is like to be born a certain way, him being a werewolf, so in my story he will accept Bella can't change liking women. More to come soon.
