Disclimer: I don't own Harry Potter, this world and characters belongs to J.K Rowling.
Mungo MacDuff arrived in Ilvermorny for the first time. It was exciting for him, he heard so much about this school and now he's about to begin his journey there. He went inside the school and followed the older students to know where to go when they arrived at the entrance hall. He noticed four wooden statues but didn't recognize them yet. He looked at the kids who were supposed to be in his year and he was nervous about this day.
"Welcome, everyone!" Isolt said and was happy that the school is getting bigger and bigger with every year that starts. "I'm Isolt Sayre, and I'm one of the founders and headmistress along with James Steward," James stood next to her and smiled at the kids.
"The sorting is easy," James explained to the new kids, "All you have to do is go to the Gordian Knot and stand there." He pointed to that area, "You need to wait for one of the statues to react and this is the house that chooses you. Those statues are Thunderbird," He pointed at the statue, "Horned Serpent, Pukwudgie and Wampus. The Thunderbird house prefers adventurers, Horned Serpent prefers scholars, Pukwudgie prefers healers, and the Wampus prefers warriors."
Isolt started reading names and the students got sorted to the houses.
"Annawan," Isolt called and a boy went to the Gordian Knot and the Horned Serpent statue glowed its stone, so he went to stand next to the statue.
"Weetamoo," Isolt called and a girl who had dark eyes and brown hair stood on the Gordian Knot, and the Thunderbird beated its wings so she went to stand next to it.
After a few students, Isolt called "Mungo MacDuff," and he went to the statues. He stayed there quietly and waited for a reaction from the statues until the Thunderbird beated its wings to tell him that he got sorted to this house. He felt relief because he knew this house fit him. He went next to the Thunderbird and met the other kids who were sorted there.
"I'm Weetamoo," The girl said to him, smiling.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Mungo." He smiled back at her.
"I'm Leonor," Another girl who stood there said.
"That's a beautiful name," The girl who named Weetamoo told her.
"Thank you," Leonor said to her.
"Nita," A girl with dark brown eyes and black hair came to the Gordian Knot and waited for reaction from the statues. The Pukwudgie raised its arrow.
"Kyle Webb," A boy with light blue eyes and black hair went to the Gordian Knot and stood there. The Thunderbird statue beated its wings and he went next to the wooden carving and Mungo.
"Hello, I'm Kyle," He said.
"I'm Mungo," Mungo answered.
"I'm Weetamoo," She said to Kyle.
"Nice to meet you both," Kyle said and looked at the other girl, who didn't introduce herself.
"I'm Leonor," She answerd to his look.
After about a minute, there were two more kids waiting to be sorted. James called the name "Hanna Reed," and Mungo watched as the Pukwudgie statue raised it's arrow up, which meant she got sorted to the Pukwudgie house. She waited and looked at the last kid that's left to get sorted, which Mungo figured out that maybe he's a friend of hers or a brother.
"Jason Reed," Isolt called, and Mungo then understood that maybe they are brother and sister. Jason stood in the middle of the statues, nervous, and waited. He didn't have to wait long because the Horned Serpent statue reacted to him by glowing it's stone. The brother and the sister shared a look while Jason went to stand next to the Horned Serpent statue and Hanna went to the Pukwudgie statue.
"Now that the sorting is over, the new kids can now follow us to the wands room." James said and he and Isolt laid them in a different room, where they tried the wands.
Inside the room, there were 6 tables with 20 wands, 5 wands were spare if someone would struggle finding a fit wand. "You can choose your wand," James told the kids. "The wand woods are divided into tables."
Mungo looked at the wands and raised one. "It's pine wood Wampus' hair." He read what was written on the table under the wand. He looked at the wand- it didn't feel good for him to hold the wand so he looked at other wands on the table but they seemed too small for him. He saw other kids trying wands- no one so far chose a wand that fits them. He saw Kyle trying a wand on the other side of the room, so he went to Kyle. "Have you found a good wand?" Mungo asked him.
"Not yet, it doesn't feel fit. Do you think that it's possible that someone can look at all of the wands and don't find something that fits?" He asked quietly.
"No, that's why they have more wands than the kids," He calmed Kyle. "And besides, I don't see anyone who picked a wand yet."
"I hope so, because it's stressing the idea that you won't find a good one. What about you? Did you find anything?" He asked Mungo.
"No, but I only tried one so far." He answered. "I don't think Pine wood fits me."
"Where? Maybe I could try those wands, Ash wood feels weird." Kyle said and Mungo showed him the table of Pine wood. Kyle tried the wand Mungo tried earlier and smiled, "It feels fits. I guess I should take this wand, thank you."
"No problem, I'm glad you found one," Mungo told him and smiled.
"Pine wood and Wampus' hair," Kyle read the description of the wand and said "Sounds good." A minute ago he was nervous that he won't find a good wand but now he's holding the wand that will be with him for maybe his whole life.
Meanwhile, Mungo went to another corner of the room to see other woods. He read "Maple Woods," and tried the wands. He read "Jackalope's antlers," and raised the wand. It felt good and it felt like this was the right wand for him. A minute and a half later, everyone had wands in their hands and James and Isolt showed them the way to the dining room. The dining room was smaller than the statues room, and it had a lot of tables with 8 chairs. The kids from second year to seventh year already sat next to tables.
Mungo searched for somewhere to sit along with Kyle and Weetamoo, until Weetamoo said "Do you mind if we'll sit with a friend of mine from my tribe?"
"Not at all," Mungo answered, "Where is he?"
Weetamoo took them to a table where a kid sat alone. "Annawan, do you mind if we'll sit here?" Weetamoo asked the kid.
"Not at all," Annawan said and smiled, "I actually told a kid that I'll save us seats but I guess there's enough space for all of us." Mungo, Weetamoo and Kyle sat with him.
"Annawan, this is Kyle," Weetamoo explained to Annawan and Kyle smiled at him, "Nice to meet you," Kyle said to Annawan.
"Nice to meet you too, Kyle," Annawan smiled at him.
"And this is Mungo, both of them are in Thunderbird," Weetamoo finished her sentence and Mungo smiled at Annawan.
"Well, at least we'll still learn together," Annawan said, "It's nice to meet you both," He smiled at Mungo and Kyle. He noticed someone and waved at him, "Jason!" He called the boy and he noticed them and waved them back. Mungo noticed that Jason came to them along with two other girls.
"Howdy, everyone. I'm Jason," The kid said awkwardly.
"I'm Hanna, and this is Nita," One of the girls said and smiled, while the girl named Nita waved to them, and the three of them sat with the group. "It's nice for all of us to have a seat together," Weetamoo said.
"Can we have your attention, please?" Isolt called and waited for silence. "It's important for the first years to know that we created a competition between the houses about points. If you behave well, you'll get points for your house. If your behavior is bad, you'll lose points from your house points, it will be until the end of each year so good luck." She sat next to James and the other teachers and the supper began.
Mungo looked at the food, excited and all of them started eating.
"Well, let's do something. What do you think about someone introducing themselves and which house they got sorted, what do you think?" Kyle asked them and they agreed to doing that. "I'm Kyle Webb and I got sorted to Thunderbird," Kyle told them.
"I'm Weetamoo and I got sorted to Thunderbird too. Also, Annawan and I are from the same tribe, which is the Wampanoag tribe, so it's like we're brother and sister." Weetamoo said.
"Jason and I are really brother and sister," Hanna said.
"You're twins, then?" Kyle asked.
"Yes, it doesn't look like it, we know." Jason said, "But not all of the twins are the same."
"Actually, it makes sense, you didn't separate for one moment today, from what I saw," Weetamoo said.
"It's because they didn't," Nita said.
"Alright, I see where you're going," Jason said, "It's better to be in a new place with someone you know than be alone here."
"We can agree with you on that," Annawan said and looked at Weetamoo.
"Wait, so are we going to continue?" Kyle asked them.
"Yes, I'm Jason, as you know already, Jason Reed. I got sorted to the Horned Serpent house," Jason said.
"And I'm Hanna Reed, I got sorted to Pukwudgie house," Hanna said.
"I'm Nita, I got sorted to Pukwudgie too, along with Hanna," Nita said. Mungo realized she's very quiet, maybe she's shy and prefers not to talk much.
"I'm Annawan, and I guess I'm the reason you're all sitting together. I got sorted to the Horned Serpent house along with Jason," Annawan said to them.
"I'm Mungo MacDuff, I also got sorted to Thunderbird," He realized that he's the last one who didn't introduce himself.
"There are a lot of Thunderbirds here," Hanna said, "Mungo, Kyle and Weetamoo."
"Yes, they came to this table together," Annawan said, "And you're here because of Jason, who's here because of me. I told you that all of you here because of me."
"It's nice to have a seat with someone who's not from our house," Kyle said.
"I agree, it doesn't matter who we're sitting with," Mungo said to Kyle, "It's the first day and we're still learning together."
"You're right," Jason said, "We'll still learn together."
Mungo decided to take a dessert and chose a cranberry pie and started eating.
"You know that this pie is because of James, right?" Kyle asked him, "It's because he likes this food. That's also the reason for the red color in our uniform."
"Wait," Hanna said to Kyle in order to understand what she just heard, "That's the real reason? Are you sure?"
"No, but it's kind of obvious. Also I heard that the pie is every day," Kyle answered.
"Every day?" Mungo asked, "I'll get sick from it on the third day. How does everyone eat this every day?"
Weetamoo shrugged, "Maybe it's not every day, then. Maybe we'll see it a lot, but on special days. Like this day, it's the first day of the year!"
"Or maybe it's because it's Sunday!" Annawan said in excitement- it did make sense. "Remember that I understood that, next Sunday."
"Or tomorrow," Kyle told him.
The feast was about to end, so they separated.
"It was nice to meet you all," Jason said and smiled.
"Yes, I guess we'll meet tomorrow?" Kyle asked them.
"I think that we'll meet each other anyway because of the classes," Mungo told them, "But it sounds good to sit together again."
"So we'll all meet tomorrow," Weetamoo said, "It was fun, good night," Kyle, Weetamoo and Mungo took their things and went with all the other Thunderbird kids to their rooms. Weetamoo went to the girls room, while Kyle and Mungo went to the boys room.
"So, what do you think about the school?" Kyle asked him while unpacking his things.
"It's exciting, actually, to finally be here," Mungo answered, "What about you?" He asked.
"I have a brother here," Kyle said while getting in the bed.
"Really? Which house is he?" Mungo was a little surprized, although it made sense.
Kyle nodded, "Wampus, he's in third year, he told me a lot about this school."
"It must be nice to have a brother here," Mungo said.
"You don't have someone from your family here?" Kyle asked, surprised.
"No, it's only me," Mungo said and went to his bed, it felt nice to have two kids in the same room.
"Only you? It feels lonely," Kyle said quietly.
"Well, my cousins are either old or young to be here, so yes, it's just me," Mungo said and when he thought about it, it did sound lonely, but he didn't think about that much.
"Don't worry, you got us, and I'm sure you'll even get more friends and you won't be alone," Kyle felt bad for that so he tried to convince both of them that he won't stay alone.
"I guess so, good night," Mungo said and tried to fall asleep while he was full of thoughts about the next day.
Author Note: I originally wanted to do a fanfic about the original aurors of America, but instead I found myself writing this fanfic. I noticed that there aren't a lot of fanfics about the magical America or Ilvermony specificly, and because I enjoyed from the characters I wrote who were studying with him, I decided for both reasons to write this fanfic. It's also a part of a series of fanfics that I'm working on, that will start from the life of Isolt, to Ilvermorny and the aurors, and maybe more. So I hope you enjoyed it. There will be more chapters coming out soon.
It's the longest number of words I achived for a chapter, and I'm happy it came at this chaper and fanfic.
The school at the time of the fanfic, was still small. It hasn't been too long between the start of the school, to this fanfic (Also Isolt and James live in this time), and the time in the fanfic is the year 1686, so that's the reason the school is still small. Also, Isolt created the wands in America at that time for the school.
