Lucifer and Carlos were in shock over the late night visitor to Lux. Carlos deduced that this was the man Chloe mentioned when he made her reveal what her plan with Lucifer was. He instantly distrusted the man standing before him. Lucifer stood up and walked over to his bar and poured himself a drink saying, "Forgive me, Father, for not offering you a drink. I have an aversion to the cloth. Daddy issues. Long story." "I understand," Kinley replied. "And I do apologize for the intrusion, Mr. Morningstar. Please allow see to explain myself." "Excellent course of action," Lucifer said. "I happen to agree," Carlos added causing Kinley to look at the boy. The priest cleared his throat, "I think this should be discussed in private, without the boy present." "Not happening," Carlos said. "You are going to tell us why you are here, then leave."
Kinley felt a pull to what Carlos asked of him and was surprised by it, but said, "You see, I'm not a normal priest." Lucifer laughed, "Was there ever such a thing?" "Nope," Carlos answered. Kinley sighed, "I mean I'm not a normal priest in the sense that I don't have my own congregation. I'm an investigator. For the Vatican." He showed Lucifer his business card and Lucifer said, "Vatican investigator? Sounds like a soon to be canceled TV show." Carlos chuckled at that as Kinley replied, "I assure you, it's a very real job. I've spent the last 40 years traveling the globe in pursuit of the demonic. I know the divine are real. And I also know that evil walks the earth. And I know that you, Mr. Morningstar…" "Oh, brother, here we go," Lucifer interrupted. "Are not it," Kinley finished.
Carlos was shocked to hear that and sensed something weird going on as Lucifer replied, "Not quite what I was expecting. So if I'm not the Devil, then why are you here? And what does any of this have to do with the Detective?" "Because Miss Decker believes that you are," Kinley answered. "I see," Lucifer said while Carlos sat there listening carefully.
Kinley then explained, "About a month ago, she came to Rome with a most outlandish tale. The Devil himself is hiding in plain sight, masquerading as a nightclub owner in Los Angeles, and that he revealed himself to her." Lucifer smiled, "Well, this is wonderful news." "Wonderful?" Kinley was puzzled. "How so?" "Well," Lucifer answered. "As my therapist would say, I know, so LA, but she'd say that talking about your issues was the first step in dealing with them, so if the Detective did have issues with me, sounds like they've been dealt with. And Carlos here told me that she was hiding something so this must be it. Now, if that's everything, Father, you can be on your merry way." Kinley interrupted, "I just felt that it was my duty to warn you. Because the reason that she came to Rome was to, well, send the Devil back to Hell." Lucifer scoffed, "The Detective would never do that." Carlos looked at Lucifer with a look that Lucifer saw and knew that they needed to talk after the priest left. "Chloe is a good person with a good heart," Kinley said. "Finally, something we can agree on," Lucifer commented. Kinley then said, "But whatever she went through, whatever drove her to Rome, it shook her to her very core. She's the reason that I'm here. You need to be careful, Mr. Morningstar. God knows what she has planned for you." Kinley felt that he was done, and following Carlos' instructions, he got into the elevator and left.
Lucifer stared at Carlos and said, "Do you know anything about this?" Carlos sighed and said, "Chloe mentioned him when I confronted her after your date. I had hoped that she would come clean to you herself, but something must of happened and this priest wants to throw a wrench into things. This is why I don't trust priests. I knew one growing up and he acted just like that. But much creepier." Lucifer walked over to Carlos and asked, "Does she want to send me back to Hell?" Carlos replied, "I think there's more to this than what he's saying. He's only telling some of the story." "Then what parts were true?" Lucifer asked. "Tell me what you know."
Carlos sighed and explained, "The part about sending you back to Hell is true. Chloe told me that Father Kinley gave her a vial that had a sedative in it that would knock you out and Kinley would then come and perform an exorcism to send you back to Hell. I told her to come clean to you. She must have changed her mind about this whole thing and told Kinley that she's not going through with it. So before Chloe could come here and explain herself, probably why she wanted a rain check on your date, Kinley decided to come here and tell you a version of the story. Part of me thinks that when she was in Rome, Kinley found her and emotionally manipulated her since the reveal of your Devil side shook her hard. If someone is emotionally compromised, then anyone can take advantage of that. But maybe when she found out that you're vulnerable around her, she realized that she shouldn't do it. However, I don't know the whole truth. Only Chloe can tell us that."
Lucifer took in what Carlos told him and sat down saying, "But she still tried to do it. She was going to betray me." "You don't know that," Carlos said. "That's why you need to let Chloe explain herself. I have a gut feeling that Kinley is hiding something. Do you want me to keep an eye on him?" Lucifer looked up at Carlos and said, "Like how you were watching me? Fine. But be careful. If you're saying that he's hiding something, I fear what it might be. Right now, my focus is on the Detective. I will follow your advice and wait for her to come clean, but my patience and my trust in her is wearing thin. I don't know what to believe anymore. How can I trust anyone anymore? And we still don't fully trust each other. How do I know that you won't betray me?" Carlos sighed and stood up and sat next to Lucifer and said, "I know that you don't know everything about me. But know this. When I make a promise, I don't break it. I will promise you, here and now, that I will help you in any way that I can like you are helping me. That was part of our deal. Just don't shut me out. Please."
Lucifer saw the pleading look in the boy's eyes and saw the truth in them. He didn't understand why he felt an immediate bond with Carlos, but a part of him has started to care for the boy in a way he's never felt before. Maybe it was trust building between them, maybe loyalty, maybe something deeper. But Lucifer stared into Carlos' eyes and saw himself in a way. Lucifer sighed and said, "Alright. I believe you. I don't know why, but I believe that you are on my side. Funny, this is a new feeling for me." Carlos smiled and said, "Well, it's a good feeling to have. Trust me." Lucifer stared at Carlos and said, "Maybe my trust in you is starting to grow." "Same," Carlos replied.
The next morning at LAPD, Chloe walked in all cheery and was humming to herself. She walked over to Ella, was was wearing sunglasses and pouring coffee when she asked," What area you so cheery about, Decker?" "What?" Chloe denied it. "I'm not cheery. Wait, why are you cheery?" "I'm nursing a bad one today," Ella answered. Chloe chuckled, "What? Too much Romulan ale?" "Too much tequila," Ella answered. "I went a little nuts on all thee margaritas yesterday." "Yesterday," Chloe thought out loud. "Sunday…Did you swap out the sacramental wine?" "I skipped church yesterday," Ella revealed. "And the week before, you said," Chloe commented. "Listen, Ella, I sort of wanted to check in with you, to see…"
"You know," Ella interrupted. "It's just me and the big guy are on a bit of a break." "I completely understand," Chloe replied. "I mean, more than you'll ever know. In fact, recently, I got clarity on a very similar issue. And I think it's why I've been feeling so positive lately."
A loud sound was heard and both girls turned to see that Dan had slammed his hand on his desk shouting, "Enough! Stop calling me! Jeez." "Hang on," Chloe said to Ella and she walked over to Dan and asked, "Is everything OK?" "Everything's fine," Dan said as his phone buzzed again. "Well," Chloe replied. "Aren't you going to answer that?" "Absolutely not," Dan answered. "Dan, it could be important," Chloe said.
Dan handed Chloe his phone and said, "Be my guest." "OK," Chloe said as she took the phone and answered it. "Dan's phone." She heard gurgling a la Chewbacca on the other line and Chloe hung up asking, "What the hell is that?" Dan walked over to his desk and pulled out a flyer saying, "I'll show you what that was. This. Here on this piece of flyer is my phone number. Lucifer's been posting these all over the precinct. It's not funny, Chloe. I swear he only exists to torture me." Chloe sighed, "Look, I know you and Lucifer have had issues lately, but maybe this its his way of…" "Know what?" Dan interrupted. "I'm sick and tired of everybody making excuses for him. I wish you could just see a little bit of what I see, Chloe. He's a bad guy." "He's trying to be better," Chloe argued. "He is, in his own way." Dan sighed, "Yea. Taking on that kid who was arrested. That man is no guardian. Especially for a kid. But whatever." He brushed past Chloe and walked away.
Later that night at Lux, Lucifer was down in the club keeping an eye on Carlos during his music time. He was still pretty impressed with the boy's musical talents and was impressed with the updates Carlos had started on the security system. Carlos said everything was small but deadly in terms of picking up wrong doings in the club, but he still had some work to do. Right now, Carlos was playing on the piano singing a random pop song,
I got this feeling inside my bones
It goes electric, wavey when I turn it on
All through my city, all through my home
We're flying up, no ceiling, when we in our zone
I got that sunshine in my pocket
Got that good song in my feet
I feel that hot blood in my body when it drops
I can't take my eyes up off it, moving so phenomenally
You gone like the way we rock it, so don't stop
Under the lights when everything goes
Nowhere to hide when I'm getting you close
When we move, well, you already know
So just imagine, just imagine, just imagine
Nothing I can see but you when you dance, dance, dance
Feeling good, good, creeping up on you
So just dance, dance, dance, come on
All those things I should do to you
But you dance, dance, dance
And ain't nobody leaving soon, so keep dancing
I can't stop the feeling
So just dance, dance, dance
I can't stop the feeling
So just dance, dance, dance, come on
Ooh, it's something magical
It's in the air, it's in my blood, it's rushing on
I don't need no reason, don't need control
I fly so high, no ceiling, when I'm in my zone
Cause I got that sunshine in my pocket
Got that good song in my feet
I feel that hot blood in my body when it drops
I can't take my eyes up off it, moving so phenomenally
You gon' like the way we rock it, so don't stop
Under the lights when everything goes
Nowhere to hide when I'm getting you close
When we move, well, you already know
So just imagine, just imagine, just imagine
Nothing I can see but you when you dance, dance, dance
Feeling good, good, creeping up on you
So just dance, dance, dance, come on
All those things I should do to you
But you dance, dance, dance
And ain't nobody leaving soon, so keep dancing
I can't stop the feeling
So just dance, dance, dance
I can't stop the feeling
So just dance, dance, dance
I can't stop the feeling
So just dance, dance, dance
I can't stop the feeling
So keep dancing, come on
I can't stop the, I can't stop the
I can't stop the, I can't stop the
I can't stop the feeling
Nothing I can see but you when you dance, dance, dance
(I can't stop the feeling)
Feeling good, good, creeping up on you
So just dance, dance, dance, come on
(I can't stop the feeling)
All those things I should do to you
But you dance, dance, dance
(I can't stop the feeling)
And ain't nobody leaving soon, so keep dancing
Everybody sing
(I can't stop the feeling)
Got this feeling in my body
(I can't stop the feeling)
Got this feeling in my body
(I can't stop the feeling)
Wanna see you move your body
(I can't stop the feeling)
Got this feeling in my body
Break it down
Got this feeling in my body
Can't stop the feeling
Got this feeling in my body, come on
When Carlos finished, everyone clapped for the kid, even Lucifer. He walked up and announced, "Ladies and gentlemen, our entertainer will be back shortly." The club sound system then turned on some pop music to keep everyone entertained while Carlos was taking a break. Lucifer led Carlos away as the boy asked, "So, what did you think?" Lucifer smiled and said, "You did very well. I wanted to pull you aside for a bit to discuss some other things." Carlos knew he meant that he wanted tabs on Father Kinley and nodded.
But then Lucifer led Carlos to the bar as Amenedial was sitting at it. He turned to Carlos and said, "Why don't you take the rest of the night off from performing? Focus on that priest. And do some work on the security systems?" Carlos nodded and left Lucifer's side to sneak away to the elevator. He got to the guest floor and pulled out his laptop and accessed the security cameras to check to see if they were working. He saw Lucifer walking up to the bar where Amenadiel was sitting. Carlos decided to turn on the audio, to check it and to listen in.
Lucifer sat next to where Amenadiel was sitting and said, "Brother," The older angel looked up. "You look like I feel." Amenadiel said, "No, I'm pretty sure that my issues are much bigger than yours. Trust me." Lucifer told Amenadiel, "I think we all know nothing his bigger than mine. The strangest thing just happened…." "Linda's pregnant," Amenadiel interrupted.
Lucifer told Amenadiel, "We'll call it a tie. Are you sure it's yours?" Lucifer asked. "Lucy," Amenadiel sighed. "Linda's not like that. You of all people should know." "Relax, brother, I just meant, a celestial impregnanting a human…How is it even possible?" "And if it is, how has this not already happened to you?" Lucifer asked.
Lucifer theorized, "Maybe there's another explanation." "You think Linda's an angel in disguise, don't you?" Amenadiel asked. "I've been wondering the same thing. Maybe she's not even human." "Or," Lucifer suggested. "Maybe, when you lost your wings, you became as mortal as it gets. Maybe you became more human than you realized." "Oh," Amenadiel said. "Probably makes more sense." Lucifer chuckled and asked, "I bet you regret coming back now, eh, brother?" "Absolutely not," Amenadiel argued. "Quite the opposite in fact." "Oh, come on," Lucifer retorted. "You don't have to sell me. You can join the Navy for all I care." "Lucy, I am happy to be here," Amenadiel argued. "Don't you see? I'm going to be a father."
Lucifer then asked, "Well, if you're so happy, then what are you doing hiding out in my bar?" "Because I have absolutely no idea what to do," Amenadiel admitted. "I mean where do I even begin?" "Wrong tree, I'm afraid. But you are here on Earth, so, if it's any consolation, you couldn't do worse than our father." "How do you know that?" Amenadiel asked. "Because ours was literally never there," Lucifer answered chugging his drink down. "And I'm not a father, and will never be a father. Besides, what spawn wants me as their dad?"
Up on the guest level of Lux, Carlos heard what Lucifer said and tensed up. He felt anger rise in him and seconds later he heard a vase in a nearby room break. He looked over and saw the damage he caused and heard his mother's voice in his head whispering, "You know what you are? You're a freak."
Carlos got up and stalked over to the bathroom and looked at himself in the mirror. He ripped off the Ring of Envy and his white hair returned and was hanging in front of his eyes. He shook his head to calm himself down, "Relax, Carlos. Don't let your emotions get the better of you. He didn't know any better. He's the Devil, remember? I'm still learning about him. He's millennia older than me. Don't let him get the better of you. He doesn't know." He looked up and saw red eyes staring back at him. He took some deep breaths and saw the red turn back to brown. Sighing he walked back to the bed and ploped down on it. He looked up at his laptop and closed the security app. He knew that he wanted to talk to someone to help him feel better. And he knew just who that person was. Jane. Reaching over, he grabbed his laptop and opened up the communications icon and saw that Jane was online. "Thank you, magic," Carlos thought to himself as that was the only reason multidimensional communication could have been possible. He typed in:
Carlos: Hey, Jane.
Jane: Carlos! So good to hear from you. Why didn't you contact me sooner? I've been worried.
Carlos: My fault. Things happened so quickly here. I apologize.
Jane: I forgive you. Just keep me posted on what's going on.
Carlos: I will. I just needed someone to talk to right now.
Jane: What's wrong? Are you OK?
Carlos: I'm getting there. I found Lucifer and I am staying at his nightclub. And he has me working here. Plus he's training me. For control. It's helped so much.
Jane: So what's the problem?
Carlos: He was talking to his brother, Amenadiel, about parenthood and he said something that rubbed me the wrong way. He said that he never wants to be a father.
Jane: Does he know?
Carlos: No. I've been working on trust with him. Once I trust him more, then I'll tell him. But after what I heard, I think his reaction will be bad. I had to calm him down about this detective that he likes…
Jane: Aww. He's in love. Do you think it's true love? Like us?
Carlos: Don't know yet. I'm keeping my eye on her. She's not completely trustworthy yet in my eyes. She almost did something that would make her betray Lucifer and her fears that I may do the same. I need to show him that I won't. I am starting to understand and slightly care for him. Despite what he just said.
Jane: OK. I miss you.
Carlos: I miss you too. You always know how to cheer me up.
Jane: My pleasure. I love you.
Carlos: I love you too.
Carlos smiled as he kept chatting online with Jane. The events of the night drifted away in his mind as the night wore on.
The next morning, Lucifer was called out to another crime scene and he was not in a good mood. He was still mad at Chloe for potentially betraying him, and when he tried to talk to Carlos the night before after talking with Amenadiel, Carlos asked for space and wanted to talk later. Lucifer was at his wit's end. He arrived at the crime scene and Chloe walked over to him and asked, "Hey, where've you been?" "What do you mean?" Lucifer asked as they walked to the scene of the crime. "Well," Chloe replied. "I sent you that text about rescheduling our date." "Oh," Lucifer said. "Yes, right. Definitely, no, I'd like that." "OK, great," Chloe responded. She noticed Lucifer's mood and he was trying to find something in his jacket, "Is everything OK?" "I don't know," Lucifer admitted. "Carlos hasn't spoken to me since last night and now I can't find my flask. Uh, where is that flask?"
Chloe stopped him and said, "You know, Carlos is a teenager and teenagers needed their space sometimes. Plus, maybe it's best if you don't drink as much. You know, at least while we're working." Lucifer stared at Chloe, "I see what this is about. I understand that Carlos may need some personal time and I will respect that. And you needn't worry, Detective. Unbelievable as it may seem, being the actual Devil dose have its downsides. I can't get drunk on normal, human amounts of alcohol. I only drink because I like the taste." "But," Chloe argued. "People don't know that." "What do I care about what other people think?" Lucifer asked. "With a few exceptions." Chloe sighed, "I'm just saying showing people that you can change is…" "Ah!" Lucifer shouted, holding up his flask. "Here it is! Wrong pocket. Shall we?" He took a quick drink and walked to the crime scene, with Chloe following behind him.
They walked up to Ella, who was taking pictures of the deceased. "Hey, Ella," Chloe greeted. "Are you feeling better today?" Ella sighed, "Well, better than this poor girl. Susan Ochoa, 29. A bona fide rocket scientist at Brody Aerospace. Neighbor saw the door open, body on the floor, called it in. Chloe pointed to the knife that was sticking out of the dead girl's back and said, "I'm assuming that's the murder weapon." Ella nodded and said, "A good old knife in the back." "Bit on the nose," Lucifer commented.
Chloe looked around, "So no forced entry, two glasses, someone brought flowers. She knew her attacker." Ella looked up and said, "It's always the ones you least suspect, the ones you trust the most, that hurt you. They wait until your guard is down and then wham! In my case, it was tequila." "Riveting," Lucifer commented as what Ella said hit home with him in the matter of Chloe. "Any witnesses?" Chloe asked. "None," Ella answered. "But the victim's friend might know more. Oscar."
Chloe and Lucifer walked over to Oscar and Chloe started to interview him, "Do you know anyone who would have want to hurt Susan, Mr. Rivas?" "No," Oscar answered. "Everybody liked Susan." "Who did she trust the most?" Lucifer asked. "To be honest," Oscar replied. "I don't know much about Susan's life here. I just came from El Salvador. She was supposed to pick me up from the airport. When she didn't show, I came here and I saw all of this." "And how do you know her?" Chloe asked. "We were in a gang," Oscar revealed. "Los Xs." "A gang member turned rocket scientist," Lucifer commented. "Gosh, and I thought I had range." Oscar sighed, "When I left the life, I wanted to pay it forward. So I helped people like Susan get out and get clean." "She was a drug addict?" Chloe asked. "Don't judge her," Oscar replied. "A lot of us were." "Oh, I'm not judging," Lucifer said. "I love drugs. In fact, do you think she might have any lying around?" Chloe interrupted, "Do you know if Susan still had any connection to Los Xs?"
"No," Oscar answered. "She made a clean break. She moved here, went to school, made an amazing life for herself. Promise me you will punish the son of a bitch that did this." "Oh," Lucifer responded. "With pleasure."
Chloe noticed Lucifer acting weird and said, "OK. Thank you, Mr. Rivas. We'll be in touch if we need anything. Paul, you can take him. Lucifer, let's get in touch with next of kin and head back to the precinct." The officer she talked to nodded and led Oscar away. Lucifer turned to her and said, "I meant what I said earlier." "What do you mean?" Chloe asked. "That I don't care what people think about me," Lucifer revealed. "So if you want to talk to anyone about, you know, me being the devil, that its if you haven't already, then, just know that it is totally fine with me." "OK," Chloe said, feeling like something's off. "I don't think that's necessary. And I'm going to assume Carlos is among those people that you don't care how they think of you?" "Right," Lucifer said, realizing that she may have a point. "So you haven't told anyone about me?" Chloe had the truth on the tip of her tongue, but then her phone went off and she went to answer it and walked away, leaving Lucifer standing there.
Lucifer drove back to Lux to find Carlos. He found the boy sitting at the piano in the club, playing it quietly. The song he was playing sounded a little melancholy. Lucifer walked over and asked, "So, are you ready to talk now? Have I given you the space required for a teenager like yourself?" Carlos stopped playing and looked up, "What?" "Sorry," Lucifer explained. "The Detective told me that teenagers like yourself require space sometimes. I felt that since you didn't want to talk to me after you went upstairs last night, that's what you wanted." Carlos chuckled and said, "Chloe does have a point. But yes. Thank you for giving me some space. I needed to think about some things. And do what you asked." "Good," Lucifer replied. "Now, is the new security system working perfectly?" "Yes," Carlos answered, keeping his feelings hidden about what he overheard last night. "And any info on that priest?" Lucifer asked. "Have been watching him in whatever secret way you are that you won't tell me?" Carlos chuckled at that last statement and said, "Yes. Kinley's staying in a church downtown. He may be up to something, but last night didn't reveal anything. And no mention of Chloe." Lucifer nodded, then grabbed Carlos and said, "Come on. We're going to visit Linda. We can talk more on the way there."
Lucifer drove Carlos to Linda's office and Lucifer led Carlos to the floor her office was on. He burst into the office, saying to the patient already there, "Time's up. Apologies, I've more pressing matters to discuss with the doctor." "I'm in the middle of my session here," The patient argued. "Well, the doctor is with child," Lucifer countered. "She needs her rest. How dare you burden her with your petty concerns now? Run along. Come on, shoo!" He went out and grabbed Carlos and dragged him in, sat him down of the couch, and escorted the other patient out and shut the door, as Carlos whispered to the patient, "Sorry about this."
Lucifer turned to Linda and said, "So, I hear congratulations are in order. Some people claim to find the life long burden fulfilling." "Congratulations," Carlos added, trying not to tense up at the last part Lucifer just said. "I assume that's why you fainted the other day." Linda said, "I'd rather not talk about the pregnancy at work, if you don't mind." Carlos nodded as Lucifer turned to Linda and said, "I am here for one reason: me. What do you do when someone has betrayed you? Normally I'd go straight to punishment, fire, brimstone, public humiliation via Youtube." "Or revenge," Carlos muttered. Lucifer ignored Carlos' comment and continued, "But in this case, the subject happens to be none other than the Detective."
"Wait Chloe?" Linda asked. "What did she do?" Carlos interrupted, "Basically, she planned to send Lucifer back to Hell after talking with a priest in Rome, who actually might be emotionally manipulating her." Lucifer glared at Carlos who said, "What? Did you want to tell her that?" Linda replied, "OK, that's a very serious accusation. How do you know this? And how does you know this, Carlos?" "She told me," Carlos said. "After some persuading." "And," Lucifer added. "A complete stranger, who happens to be the priest mentioned by Carlos." Linda nodded her head and asked, "Have you talked to Chloe about this?" "No," Lucifer said. "Carlos here wants me to give her time so that she can come clean herself. Keep in mind, this was before the priest showed up on my doorstep to tell his version of events. But I'm getting impatient. I just need you to tell me how to deal with her and help her come clean."
"Cautiously, Lucifer," Linda answered. "There may be a very reasonable explanation for Chloe's behavior. Feel her out a bit. See if she will tell you on her own without prompting." Lucifer nodded and Carlos said, "That's what I told him."
Linda turned to Carlos and said, "And why did Lucifer bring you here?" Carlos shrugged as Lucifer answered, "I brought him here because we are learning about each other and building trust. I wanted to show him where I went to talk about my problems. And, Carlos, if you need to talk about your problems, you can come and talk to Linda if that would make you feel more comfortable. She's used to helping people sort their issues." Carlos stared at Lucifer and asked, "Is that about what happened last night?" "What happened last night?" Linda asked. Lucifer sighed, "I sent Carlos away to do some things for me so that I could talk to Amenadiel. When I came up later, Carlos said that he needed space. The Detective said that's what teenagers do, but I wanted to make sure of that. You probably talk with moody teenagers all the time, Linda." "I do," Linda said. "But is this something Carlos wants to do?"
She turned to Carlos, who thought for a moment and said, "I think Lucifer is acting impatient." "Hey," Lucifer said. Carlos continued, "Only because I promised him through our deal that we would help each other out and we would learn about each other, slowly. But I can tell that he also wants to give me a way to vent my feelings like he does with you. I guess if I need someone other than Lucifer to talk to if I'm having a "moment", then yes, if you are fine with it, I can start having sessions with you." Lucifer looked at Carlos and gave him a soft smile. Like he realized before, the boy was growing on him. Linda smiled and said, "That is fine with me. My door is always open."
Lucifer and Carlos left Linda's office and Lucifer got a text from Chloe. Dan had told her after a conversation with Ella, where the two discussed some personal things leading to Ella taking off her cross, that Ella found out that the flowers at the crime scene were purchased by Anders Brody, Susan's boss. Lucifer drove to the pier and told Carlos to wait in the car, which the teen agreed. Only after Lucifer left did Carlos pull out his mirror to keep an eye on Lucifer, mainly to keep himself from being bored and to keep an eye on Chloe, as well as Kinley off and on.
Chloe was waiting for him under a sign and Lucifer saw that Anders was throwing a Save the Cove event. Lucifer saw the sign as the pair walked toward Anders' boat and asked, "A bit self-aggrandizing, don't you think? Maybe he's compensating for something." Chloe replied, "Cue relentless onslaught of small penis jokes in three, two, one… You know, because he's compensating." "For his guilt, I mean," Lucifer clarified. Chloe then said, "Well, I thought…OK, well, never mind. So you think that he's hosting charity regattas because he's feeling guilty?" "Yes," Lucifer answered. "For doing bad things, like betraying a beloved and totally innocent coworker." Chloe didn't get the hint and said, "You know, maybe you and Anders are similar. Rich, famous. At thee very least, notorious." "No, no." Lucifer said, stopping them from walking. "You're supposed to be Brody in this metaphor." "Have you ever considered donating any of your vast fortune to charity?" Chloe asked. Lucifer scoffed, "I've put many a nubile law student through college, thank you very much, several of which were named Charity, so.."
The pair looked over and saw Anders Brody scooping up ocean litter and Chloe commented, "Ah, hard to believe a guy so dedicated to saving the world would murder his own employee." Lucifer countered, "Well, sometimes betrayal come from the ones we expect the least, doesn't it, Detective?" Lucifer walked ahead of her, Chloe catching up moments later.
Lucifer walked up to Anders Brody and said, "You! Anders Brody. You killed her, didn't you?" "Killed?" Anders asked. "Who?" "Susan Ochoa," Lucifer answered. "You went round to her place and murdered here in cold blood." Anders scoffed, "Are you out of your mind? Who are you?" "LAPD," Chloe answered. "We're here investigating the murder of your employee Susan Ochoa." "Look," Anders replied. "I don't even know who that is, so I certainly didn't kill her." "What happened?" Chloe asked. "You go over to her place, try and put the moves on her? She wasn't into it, you couldn't take it and killed her?" "I don't know her," Anders replied. "We know about the flowers," Chloe whispered. "They tracked back to you."
Anders tried to run, but Lucifer grabbed him and shouted, "Don't think so!" He grabbed some rope and tied it around Anders' neck with Chloe shouting, "Lucifer, what are you doing?" Lucifer threw the other end of of the rope on a boat leaving the dock as Lucifer said, "Susan invited you into her home, her life, and you betrayed her." Anders struggled and shouted to Chloe, "Do something! He's going to kill me!" "Lucifer," Chloe said. "There may be a less violent way of getting him to talk."
"Let him go!" Lucifer and Chloe looked up to see Carlos standing nearby. Lucifer felt some kind of pull to obey Carlos, but part of him fought it. Carlos used the distraction and ran up and using his strength, pulled the rope apart in the middle and broke it in two. Anders dropped to the ground, breathing heavily. He looked up at Carlos and said, "Thank you. This psycho almost killed me." "Watch it," Carlos said, squatting down to his level. "You still haven't answered his question. Did you betray Susan?" Anders was forced to answer, "I betrayed Susan. But it's not what you think." Anders shook his head to clear it as Lucifer said, "Thank you for your honesty. I like honesty. Now, if you wouldn't mind sharing with us a sympathetic and logical explanation for your betrayal." Anders looked up and said, "Not another word without my lawyers." Carlos chuckled, "Of course he says that now. You know, I can get you to talk." "That's enough," Chloe said. "I will be taking him into custody." "Fine," Carlos stepped back. "You're welcome by the way. I'll meet you back at the car, Lucifer." He started to walk away, then turned and said, "And by the way, Lucifer. Lighten up and remember what I told you. And Chloe, one, you are so clueless. And two, clock's ticking." Carlos walked back to Lucifer's car, leaving Lucifer and Chloe there standing awkwardly.
Anders was taken to LAPD and Lucifer met Chloe there along with Carlos. Trixie was also there with Dan and she saw Carlos and ran up shouting, "Carlos!" She hugged Carlos, who returned her hug. "Hey, Trixie," Carlos responded, breaking the hug and stepping back. Trixie looked over at Lucifer and Chloe and asked, "Hey, Carlos? Are Lucifer and my mom OK? Things seem tense around them." Carlos looked at the pair and said, "They're just working through some things. But there being idiots about it and not being honest right now. Hopefully they'll make up soon."
Lucifer was sitting on Chloe's desk watching Anders being led away and said, "That must have been such a relief for him to come clean." Chloe sighed, "Who knows? Maybe next time we try to get him to confess in a less violent way. Good thing Carlos stopped you just in time. Does whatever he can do affect you?" "It was weird," Lucifer commented. "I felt the pull but I fought it off. As for your first comment, where's the fun in that?" Chloe looked up at Lucifer and said, "At the very least, next time maybe we try and get him to confess more specifically. "I betrayed her", can mean a lot of things." Lucifer nodded, "You're right. You're right. Maybe we should brainstorm a list of betrayals. You start, Detective."
Chloe had a feeling why Lucifer was doing this, but before she could say anything, her phone went off. She saw it was Ella and answered, "Hey, Ella. What's up?" "Anders Brody didn't kill Susan Ochoa," Ella said on the other side. "What?" Chloe was confused. "How do you know that?" Ella was in a garage standing next to another victim, "Because, while Brody's been in custody, the real killer just struck again."
Ella came back to LAPD and she, Dan, and Chloe went into her lab to go over thee information on the second victim. Ella led, "Victim's name is David Ramirez. 27, apprentice mechanic, lived in the back of the shop." Chloe was looking at some pictures and asked, "Is this what I think it is?" "Yep," Ella replied seeking what Chloe was referring to, a photo of a tattoo on the victim's arm. "Tattoos that were removed and their designs look like…" "Los X's gang tats," Dan finished. Ella continued, "Apparently Ramirez grew up in foster homes, he got mixed up with the wrong crowd, got arrested a bunch of times, but four years ago, he goes to night school, gets his mechanic certification, and he's been clean ever since."
Dan slapped the file in front of him and shouted, "Damn it!" "What's wrong?" Chloe asked. Dan sighed, "He's just trying to clean up his life, you know, like Susan Ochoa." "OK," Chloe said. "Let's focus on the things we can control, like stopping the killer from striking again. We know that all the victims were linked by their former gang, so maybe it's someone from their past. But what's the motive?" "Retribution maybe," Dan suggested. "Well," Chloe said. "Then let's talk to the former crew, see if anyone knows anything." Dan sighed, "Los Xs aren't dumb corner boys anymore. They're a major drug operation. Which means they have lawyers, and without amir-tight warrants or full SWAT backup, they'll stonewall us." "You're absolutely right," Chloe replied. "So I'll call a judge, get a warrant. That might take a couple of days. But, Dan, I know what this is about OK? There's nothing we can do until we get a warrant." Dan sighed, knowing Chloe was right. Chloe looked around and asked, "Has anyone seen Lucifer? Or Carlos?"
Lucifer was out in the hallway, having taken Anders Brody away from the officers looking after him. "I'll take it from here," Lucifer told the officers as he led Anders away so he could speak to them privately. Carlos saw this from afar as he was sitting next to Trixie. "Is Lucifer going to do his thing?" Trixie asked. "I think so," Carlos commented. "But if it looks like he'll cross a line, then I'll step in and do my thing." "What thing?" Trixie asked. Carlos smiled and said, "I'll tell you another time. Right now, let's enjoy the show."
Anders was struggling against Lucifer, but Lucifer let him go, "Relax, your neck his fine, since Carlos stopped me from going too far. He had a point. But for you, it's your guilt Ii want to get a grip on. You said you betrayed Susan, so if you didn't kill her, what did you do?" "Look," Anders said. "I think it's best if you just speak with my…" Lucifer interrupted, staring directly into Anders' eyes, "You went to Susan's that evening for a reason, so tell me. What did you desire?" Anders felt the pull, "I wanted…forgiveness."
Lucifer got confused, "Forgiveness? Why?" Anders then explained, "One day, I came upon Susan as she was talking to some at risk youth group about her past, her struggles with addiction. I had no idea and I panicked. Imagine thee PR crisis. Head of Safety Protocols, a drug addict. So I demoted her, took her off the NASA project." "You punished her for her former life," Lucifer realized. Anders nodded, "But then I went through her file and I found that Susan was a model employee, and she'd passed every single drug test, including the one last week. It wasn't right, what I did to her." "So you went over to apologize," Lucifer said. "But when I got there," Anders revealed. "It was too late. She was dead. I was wrong." Anders then surprised Lucifer by hugging him, Lucifer standing there awkward. "Never said that before," Anders said. "It feels good. It feels real good." "I'm sure it does," Lucifer commented, breaking the hug. "Anyway, you're free to go." "Thanks," Anders said as he walked away and out of LAPD.
Carlos and Trixie saw all of this play out and Trixie whispered, "That went in a weird direction." Carlos nodded in agreement, "Indeed it did." They looked over and saw Maze walking in with a bag of things in her hand. "Hey, Trixie," Maze said. "Hey, Carlos." "Maze!" Trixie got up and hugged the demon. "What are you doing here?" Carlos asked. "What's with the bag?" Maze smiled and said, "I was talking with Linda earlier about her pregnancy…" "She's having a baby?" Trixie squealed. Maze nodded and continued, "I got some knives here that I want to gift Linda for the baby. I wanted Trixie to look them over with me. Want to join?" Carlos chuckled, "Thanks for the invite, but I am going to have to pass. Lucifer's my ride since he's been dragging me around all day. Plus, I'm dong something for him. And I want to keep an eye on him as I sense he may do something stupid." Trixie giggled as Maze said, "Yea, that sounds like him. OK, I'll see you later. Come on, Trixie." Maze took Trixie to another room while Carlos saw Chloe walk over to Lucifer.
"Were you just hugging Anders Brody?" Chloe asked. "Whatever it takes to get answers, Detective," Lucifer answered. "Huh," Chloe replied. "That's very evolved of you. Well, we're still waiting on warrants and we can't do anything on the case until tomorrow, so our night's free." "Go on," Lucifer prodded. "Well," Chloe continued, "I thought that maybe we could meet up later. And, you know, not exactly a date, but maybe something better." "Well," Lucifer said. "It sounds like you have something very particular in mind." Chloe nodded and walked away to do some paperwork. He saw Carlos walking over and said, "Alright, Carlos. Ready to head out?" "Yep," Carlos said. "Are we going back to Lux?" "Not quite yet," Lucifer said. "You and I are going to go see Father Kinley on our way back."
Meanwhile, Maze was showing her all the knives that had cute handles on them. Trixie pointed out one of them and said, "I like that one." "Really?" Maze remarked. She pointed to another one and said, "Not the one I would have chosen, but you are the closet person to a baby I know. OK, so at what age did your parents teach you to hunt?"
Dan suddenly came in and asked, "What's going on in here? Maze, you know she's not allowed to play with knives." "Relax Dan," Maze countered. "These knives aren't for Trixie. They're for a baby." Dan got frustrated, "OK, new rule. No more knife play of any kind with my kid. You got it?" "Fine," Maze replied. Dan turned to Trixie and said, "Trixie, it's time to go. Grab your stuff."
As Trixie went off to get her stuff, while Maze secretly handed her a knife, Maze asked Dan, "So who pissed in your Cheerios? You're even grumpier than usual." Dan sighed, "It's thee case, OK? I feel powerless. Any second now, another person could get killed and we're just sitting here on our asses." "Why?" Maze asked. "Because," Dan explained. "We've got to wait for a judge to give us a stupid warrant." Maze picked up a knife and twirled it asking, "Says who?"
Lucifer and Carlos pulled up to the Catholic Church that Kinley was at. Carlos looked up at the church and asked, "So why are we here? If you want info, that's why I'm spying on him." "True," Lucifer said. "But sometimes you have to go to the source itself. And this is one of those times. And here I thought we were suppose to learn from each other. We can't do that if we don't spend time together" "Oh," Carlos replied. "I'm just surprised that you want to spend this much time with me, that's all." Lucifer turned to Carlos and asked, "Is this why you've been melancholy for the past day? You don't think I want to learn from you, you from me, and spend time together in spite of our deal?" Carlos nodded meekly and said, "I know you don't like kids, I get it. But it's nice that I have an adult figure like yourself in my life." Lucifer was surprised by Carlos' honesty. "You know, I may think that children are little demon spawns, but you are different. You intrigue me. And like you said before, we're two lost souls that need each other right now. We can help each other out. The Detective is not being honest with me right now, but you are, and I like that." Carlos smiled and said, "Thanks."
The two got out of the car and walked over to the entrance. Lucifer pulled out a cigarette and started to smoke it. "I don't think you're allowed to smoke in the church," Carlos commented. "I'm a rule breaker," Lucifer said. "Haven't you?" Carlos chuckled, "Yea, I was when I was younger. Rotten to the core, remember?"
Lucifer chuckled as Father Kinley approached them, "Mr. Morningstar, thank you for reaching out. Are you OK? Did Detective Decker do something?" "No," Lucifer answered. "And she never will. I'm just here to tell you that you're wrong about the Detective. If she's planning anything, it's an apology." "I certainly hope that that's the case," Kinley replied. "She will," Carlos said. "She's just finding the courage to do so." Kinley seemed to glare at Carlos a little as Lucifer said, "Oh, ye of little faith, Father."
Lucifer put out his cigarette as Kinley asked, "Have you noticed her carrying a vial? About plum size. You see, when Chloe was in Rome…." "Save it," Lucifer said. "I already know all of this. Chloe may not have told me everything about this yet, but she has slipped up to Carlos here. So you can stop playing the innocent act." "I don't know what you mean," Kinley replied. "Oh, you're good," Carlos said, stepping forward to Kinley. "Chloe spilled to me that you were the one who gave her the vial to slip Lucifer so that you could perform a ceremony to send Lucifer back to Hell. So nice try." Kinley tried to keep up his act, "I am not at fault here. Chloe is the one who wants to send you back to Hell. I am just here to warn you." "Well," Lucifer replied. "Consider me warned. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have plans."
Lucifer walked past Kinley, through the doors of the church to his car. Carlos started to follow, but Kinley grabbed the boy's arm and whispered, "I don't know who you are, but you are messing with things that are far beyond you." Carlos shoved Kinley back a couple feet and said, "I know exactly who I am dealing with. You are the one that is being ignorant. If anyone is messing with things, it's you. I know a liar when I see one. Now, get out of my way. Now." Kinley stepped out of Carlos' way by command and Carlos walked past him and out the doors to catch up with Lucifer.
Another priest walked up to Kinley and asked, "Was that the man earlier?" "Not a man, Your Excellency," Kinley said. "The prophecy is real. Even though he wouldn't listen to me, I believe the trap is still set. And everything will come together soon." "But who was the boy?" The other priest asked. "A problem," Kinley said. "One that I hope won't get in the way of our goals."
Carlos got in the car and Lucifer asked, "What happened?" Carlos sighed, "He tried to stop me from leaving. Told me that I'm messing with things I don't understand. He's definitely up to something." "Right," Lucifer said. "I am going to drop you off at Lux. You are to keep tabs on him. While I get a confession out of Chloe." "Lucifer," Carlos warned. "No, Carlos," Lucifer said. "I have waited long enough. Either she comes clean tonight, or I will tell her that she's betrayed me." "Just be careful," Carlos said. "Don't worry," Lucifer said. "I'm the Devil, remember?"
Over at a gynecologist's office, Linda was sitting there worrying. She didn't like that people kept coming into her office and talk to her about her pregnancy. First Lucifer, then Maze, finally Amenadiel, who tried to give her books on pregnancy to help her. But she refused them. She realized that maybe she was too harsh, but she was scared about all of this. But she wanted to do this alone, she didn't want help. She sighed and then saw Amenadiel standing in front of her. "Amenadiel," Linda said. "What are you doing here?" "Linda," Amenadiel replied. "You don't have to do this alone. I want to be here for this baby and, most importantly, I want to be here for you."
He then pulled out a ring box and Linda knew he was about to propose, but Linda stopped him and told him to sit and said, "What you're doing is amazing and heroic and I should be so lucky to end up with someone half as special as you are. But what you're doing here, it's for the wrong reasons. And it's not what I need right now." Amenadiel sighed, "And what do you need?" Linda started to tear up, "I think I just need someone to hold my hand and tell me everything's going to be OK." Amenadiel took her hand, "I promise you, Linda, everything is going to be OK." Linda smiled and felt reassured by Amenadiel's statement as they sat holding hands.
Lucifer dropped Carlos off at Lux and told the boy to keep an eye out on Father Kinley while he went out with Chloe. He met up with the Detective at a building near the pier. "I hope this so-called surprise of yours doesn't involve me taking off my shoes," Lucifer commented as he and Chloe walked down a street. Chloe sighed, "I should warn you that what I have planned might be painful for you, and what I want to talk to you about, but I think, ultimately, you'll see it's a good thing." "Painful?" Lucifer asked. "The date or the discussion?" Chloe pointed ahead, "It's just up ahead." She walked ahead and Lucifer muttered, "Detective, where are you taking me?"
Over in another part of LA, Dan found out where some of the Los Xs were hanging out and banged on their door. One guy opened it and Dan said while holding up his badge, "Howdy." He pushed past the guy and shouted to the others, "What's up, fellas?" One guy stopped him with a baseball bat and said, "Do you have any idea where you are?" "Yes, I do," Dan answered. "Los Xs headquarters. So called brain trust of your transnational drug operation. Come on, guys, relax. That's not why I'm here, OK? Susan Ochoa and David Ramirez were murdered. And I know you guys are involved somehow. So I need to talk to the guy or the girl who's in charge. And be quick about it. I'm in a bit of a hurry." The gang members started to laugh as Dan continued, "OK, you know what, maybe I didn't make myself clear. Which one of you losers is in charge?" No one answered so Dan sighed, "OK. I guess I'm just going to have to press the issue, right?"
Dan punched the baseball bat guy and started to fight the others when someone whistled. Another guy came out, the leader. Dan chuckled, "You see now, that wasn't so hard, was it? What's up? Can you please tell me everything you know about the murders?" "What if I don't?" The leader asked. "Well," Dan answered. "Then there's going to be a problem." The leader chuckled, "Ah, you're a crazy pig, aren't you? Respeto. But the only problem we got is figuring out what we're going to do with your body. Matalo!" A guy next to Dan puts a gun to the cop's head.
But then Maze jumped through the roof and landed on a guy. Dan used this distraction and started to fight the gang members with Maze. They defeated each of them, one by one, and Maze held a sword to the leader's throat. But then more gang members came into the room and Maze and Dan looked at each other, ready for more fighting.
Carlos was sitting on his bed with the mirror spying on Father Kinley. He saw that he was with another priest and the two of them were sitting in a small room and Kinley was saying, "Everything is in place. Oscar is waiting for our special guest to arrive. And if our plan succeeds, the Devil will be returned to Hell permanently." Carlos tensed up, realizing that Kinley has set a trap for Lucifer. He pulled out his phone and tried to call Lucifer.
Lucifer was walking around where Chloe had brought him, "What are we doing in a soup kitchen?" "Volunteering," Chloe answered. "You should try it. It could be fun. Watching people trip and fall is fun. This not fun." Chloe sighed, "Lucifer, I just thought it would be nice for us to do something good for a change." "Oh, for a change," Lucifer replied. "And just what exactly is it you'd like me to change?" "Oh, Lucifer, that's not what I meant," Chloe said. "Listen, if you'd like to leave, we can leave."
Lucifer then dragged Chloe away from the soup kitchen, "You have been acting very strange, Detective. Wanting me to drink less, be nicer to suspects, be more philanthropic." Chloe's phone was buzzing and Chloe pulled it out, saying, "That's not true." "Then let's skip right to the discussion we need to have," Lucifer said. "The only thing that's true is that you've been lying to me. And I am tired of waiting for you to come clean." He then grabbed her purse from her and pulled out the vial Kinley gave her, "Detective, would you care to explain what this is?" Chloe looked shocked and said, "Lucifer, I can explain…." "Go right ahead," Lucifer said.
Chloe sighed, "I was given that during my trip to Rome." "By Father Kinley?" Lucifer interrupted. Chloe looked shocked as Lucifer continued, "I know you've been meeting with him and that he was the one to give it to you. I know all about it. Carlos told me. He suggested that I be patient and wait for you to come clean, but I'm not patient anymore." "It's not what you think," Chloe argued. "Isn't it?" Lucifer countered. Chloe was stuttering for an answer, but her phone went off again and she said it was Dan calling and she answered, "Dan, can I cal you back?" I'm right in the middle of something." "I know who the killer is," Dan said on the other line. "And he's about to skip town."
Chloe looked up at Lucifer and said, "We need to go. Now!" Chloe ran to her car and Lucifer reluctantly followed. He didn't notice his own phone buzzing as the couple drove away.
"Dang it!" Carlos couldn't get a hold of Lucifer. He held up the mirror and said, "Mirror mirror in my hand, show me where Kinley stands." The mirror showed him the house that Kinley and the other priest were waiting. Carlos then asked if Lucifer was heading to the same place. He was. Carlos jumped off his bed and rushed downstairs and got on his vespa. He wanted to get there quickly before Lucifer got into trouble. He thought for a moment, then realized, "Wait. What was the one spell Mal used to get back to the Isle? Right." He concentrated as the ring around his neck glowed and his eyes glowed red, "Noble steed, proud and fair, you will take me anywhere." He felt the magic consume his vespa and he sped off, faster than he's ever gone before, racing off towards his destination, and the spell along with his ring making sure no one would stop him from getting to where he needed to be.
In Chloe's car, Lucifer stared out the window as Chloe talked with Dan on the phone, who said, "OK, his name is Oscar and I just sent you a picture." Chloe put her phone down so Lucifer could see and Chloe realized, "It's Susan Ochoa's drug counselor. We talked to him at the scene." Dan replied, "Well, the head of Los Xs says that he's the killer." "The head of Los Xs?" Chloe asked. "How?" "We caught a break," Dan answered. "It doesn't matter. What matters is that Rivas was a gang counselor for both victims." Lucifer then said, "So you're saying they trusted him, made their dark sides vulnerable, and then he just stabbed them in the back." "Yea, pretty much," Dan replied. "Why?" Chloe asked. "That's the million dollar question," Lucifer remarked.
They pulled up to the house where Oscar was staying, and Lucifer got out quickly and walked to the door. Chloe shouted at him to stop, but Lucifer kicked the door down. He shut the door behind him and pulled two bars down to lock Chloe out. He stalked into the house to find Oscar.
Chloe tried to get in, but she couldn't. Suddenly she heard a vehicle coming fast in her direction. She ran out to see what it was. She saw Carlos speeding down impossibly fast and miraculously coming to a holt in front of her. Carlos hoped off the vespa and asked, "Where's Lucifer?" Chloe stared at him, "How did you…" "Tell me where he is!" Carlos shouted. "He's in danger." Chloe felt his persuasion working and said, "He went inside. I can't get in." Carlos looked at the house and said, "Not a problem."
Lucifer found Oscar sitting in the middle of the living room sitting on a chair reading a Bible. "You!" Lucifer shouted. "How could you just murder them?" Oscar kept reading, "I did what needed to be done." Lucifer knocked the book out of his hands and grabbed him, shoving him into the wall, "They trusted you! They shared their darkest truths and you just betray them?" "And I would happily do it again," Oscar revealed. Lucifer chuckled darkly, "Oh, ho ho! This is going to be fun."
Lucifer tossed him across the room and Oscar collided with a chair. Then he sat up and said, "I showed those losers the real me." "Careful," Lucifer said. "Or I'll show you the real me." "Oh, yes. Do it!" Oscar demanded. Lucifer got confused as Oscar continued, "I thought they could change. But they couldn't. Dave was stealing again. Susan was back on drugs. They were trash. So I killed them. What are you going to do?" Lucifer then held Oscar to the ground, who chuckled darkly and said, "Show me what you've got. Come on, Lucifer. Show us who you really are." Lucifer was shocked and let Oscar go. "You want me to punish you? Why?"
Suddenly they both heard the front door slam open and Carlos ran in shouting, "Stop!" Chloe ran in behind him and shouted, "Hands in the air." Lucifer turned to Carlos and asked, "How did you get here?" "Magic," Carlos said with a smirk. They saw Oscar turn to the large wall mirror in the room and say, "I failed. May God forgive me." He then started to move, but Carlos shouted, "Freeze!" Oscar then froze as Carlos walked to Oscar and knelt down, "You must be Oscar. Now, you and I are going to have a little conversation." "Please," Oscar whimpered. "Let me free." "After you answer my questions," Carlos replied. "Now, tell me where the priests are. And why you were bait for Lucifer." Lucifer and Chloe looked at each other as Oscar answered, "They're here with me. They promised me salvation if I lured Lucifer here. He was to show his true face and punish me, but they would intervene and sent him back to Hell." "Where are they?" Carlos pressed, his eyes starting to glow red.
Oscar whimpered again, and pointed to the mirror. Carlos released him and stood up, staring at the mirror with his eyes still glowing. "It must be a two way mirror," Chloe realized. Oscar used this opportunity and rammed his head onto a broken piece of chair and impaled himself, dying instantly. Lucifer, Chloe, and Carlos were horrified. Carlos then screamed in rage at the mirror, "You see what you did? You used him. He killed himself because he failed you. How could you?" Everything in the room started to shake and rattle, as Carlos screamed loudly with pictures frames falling to the ground and pieces falling off of tables, and the mirror broke into thousands of pieces. Behind it were two empty chairs in a gray room. Carlos realized that was the room he saw in the mirror. He looked around and saw the damage he caused, he never unleashed his powers like that. Carlos took several deep breaths to try and calm himself, but it was going slower than he would like. Seeing a man die in front of him would affect anyone.
Chloe stood there in shock of what Carlos just did. Lucifer saw Carlos and was amazed/shocked at what he just saw. But he saw a sad look come across the boy's face and he instantly knew that Carlos was slightly scared at what he just did. Carlos turned and stared at Lucifer and muttered, "I'm sorry. I wanted to get here faster to stop this from happening. If I did, then maybe none of this would have happened. And I…lost control. I just.." Carlos knelt down and broke down, crying. Lucifer stared at Carlos for a moment, then walked over and knelt down to Carlos. He was surprised when Carlos leaned heavily into him and cried into his jacket. Lucifer was shocked for a moment, then put his arms around the boy and tried to comfort him, as much as a love deprived celestial could do.
Lucifer looked up at Chloe and said, "Your friend Father Kinley must have been watching. With another priest." "I think Kinley arranged all of this to get to you," Chloe realized as they heard police sirens right outside. "He wanted to show someone who or what you really are. I know that we have a lot to talk about and I have a lot to explain and I know a lot of this is my fault, but you need to trust me right now." "Oh, really?" Lucifer questioned as he felt Carlos starting to state down. "I think you're in real danger," Chloe said. "Enlighten me, Detective," Lucifer responded. "Just who exactly am I in danger from?" Chloe sighed and said, "We can talk about that later. Backup is here. Your focus right now is Carlos. You need to get him out of here before every police officer out there questions what happened. He needs you right now." Chloe walked to the front door to met the police officers and get information while Lucifer whispered to Carlos, "We have to go. Can you stand?" Carlos nodded and Lucifer helped him up. "I assume you brought that vespa with you. We are going back to Lux. We need to talk and I need to calm down."
Meanwhile, Dan and Maze were walking away from the Los Xs headquarters as Dan said, "Yeah, that's what I'm talking about, man. When you kneed that dude and he fell down and I just came in there, wham, elbow to the face, amazing. It just felt so good, you know. Just to let loose, not have to follow the rules for a change. And you are amazing for helping me out like that." "Come on," Maze replied. "Any time you want to beat someone up. Any time, you call me. In fact, I'm going to kick your ass if you don't." "Oh, man," Dan said. "This is going to sound crazy. But I can't wait to do it again." "Oh!" Maze said. "Old Dan is back. I am so in. The straight and narrow Dan, total buzzkill." "Screw that Dan," Dan agreed. "It was getting me nowhere." "Trust me," Maze said. "Darker Dan will get you real far."
Lucifer got Carlos back to Lux on Carlos' vespa and took him up to the penthouse. He made Carlos sit on the couch and he got himself a drink. He poured one for Carlos, who muttered, "If you are giving me alcohol, don't. I'm not 21, remember?" Lucifer chuckled and poured a water and brought it to Carlos. Lucifer sat next to him and said, "Alright. I know this is a hard time for you right now, but we need to talk about what happened. Start from the beginning of when I dropped you off here earlier today, then go from there."
Carlos nodded and said, "After you dropped me off, I spied on Kinley. He was talking to another priest and said that he was using Oscar to bait you into a trap. I panicked and drove after you to save you from said trap. I tried to get there as fast as I could. I thought even though you got there first, I could defuse the situation. And at first, it started to look like that everything would mellow out. Then that man….killed himself. Because he failed. When in reality, he was being used. By that priest. I felt anger and rage rise in me and…I lost control. And when I saw the damage that I did, I was horrified. I didn't realize that I could do that. Maybe minor things but not that. I put you and Chloe in danger, because of me. Because of what I did. Of what I could have done."
Lucifer stopped Carlos there, "Carlos, you lost control. It happens. Now I am getting a better understanding of why you came here for my help. Something is happening to you that you don't know how to control." Carlos nodded and said, "Maybe she was right. Maybe I am a freak." Lucifer's eyes glowed red and asked, "You told you that?" Carlos sighed, deciding to reveal a little something about himself, and said, "My mom. She's used that word all my life and called me that. Made me feel worthless." Lucifer made Carlos look at him and said, "No parent should tell their child they are a freak, that they're worthless. You are not. Sure I may see them as spawns, but not freaks. I am sorry that your mother made you feel that way. She betrayed you as a mother." Carlos nodded in agreement.
Lucifer stood up and walked over to a chest and pulled a box out of it. He walked back over and handed the box to Carlos saying, "I think this might be something that might help you. If you ever feel that your emotions are making you lose control of your powers and your calming technique doesn't work, just use this and you will instantly calm down and return back to normal." He handed the box to Carlos, who opened it to find a white feather in it. Carlos looked up and said, "This is a feather from your wings." Lucifer nodded, "I noticed that when I revealed my wings to you the other day after you punched me out the window, your mind didn't break while seeing them. So I figured that my feathers would be able to help you. But tread lightly with it. Only use it for emergencies." Carlos looked up and said, "I don't know what to say. I don't know how to thank you." Lucifer waved his hand, "It's done. I know that my first few days as your guardian have been all over the place, but I think I want to be that figure in your life that you were talking about earlier that you need right now. Your mother may have betrayed you, but I never will. I promise." Carlos smiled and said, "Thank you."
Lucifer stood up and said, "Alright. Well, you've had an eventful day. Now why don't you go back to the guest suite and call it a night? I have a feeling the Detective and I are going to have a much needed conversation in a while and I need to prepare myself. I'm barely holding it together." Carlos nodded and walked toward the elevator. He turned and said, "You may be barely holding it together as you say, but you still are a good man. And becoming a great figure to me." Carlos went into the elevator and went down to the guest level. Lucifer turned and looked out into the night sky. He was surprised at himself for how he acted while conforming Carlos. He's never like this with children, but Carlos seems to be making him a different man. He was acting almost…fatherly. He shook his head and thought, "I may be developing a soft spot for the boy, but I am no father. He's just a boy that needs my help. Nothing more." He looked back at the elevator and thought, "He was at least a good distraction from the Detective. Now I must wait patiently as I am feeling my anger rise again for her to come here and explain herself."
Over at a Catholic Church, the priest that Kinley took with him to the house was shouting at Lucifer, "What in God's name was that?" "It was a setback," Kinley replied. "That's all." The other priest was not satisfied with that answer, "That man killed two people, then himself, and you knew? No, wait. You orchestrated it." Kinley sighed, "Extreme measures were taken. It would have been worth it if Lucifer had shown his true face. But that boy interfered. And what he did…." "Can you even hear yourself?" The other priest interrupted. Kinley replied. "The Church needs to see that Lucifer Morningstar is the actual Devil. It should have worked. Chloe told me that he likes to make every case out himself. And I set it up perfectly for him to want to punish Rivas. But that boy…got in the way. But Lucifer also seemed to retreat. Why wouldn't he reveal himself?"
"Because he's better than you give him credit for." The two priests turned to see Chloe walking up the main aisle of the cathedral. Kinley chuckled, "Detective Decker." He turned to the other priest and said, "Well, she knows the truth. Chloe, tell him." "I do know the truth, Father," Chloe replied. "I did some digging. You worked at the same parish in El Salvador as Oscar Rivas. It's quite the coincidence." Kinley sighed. "Oscar was a good man, a true believer, willing to do what was necessary. To take what action was needed to battle evil." "You had Rivas kill two innocent people to battle evil?" Chloe asked. Kinley replied, "He willing sacrificed himself to force Lucifer to reveal his true form, to show the Church finally the truth. But Lucifer wouldn't show his face. And that boy charged in and made Rivas say the plan, however the boy made him do it."
Chloe sighed, "This is all your own private crusade, isn't it, Father? The Vatican doesn't know about this, do they?" Kinley scoffed, "Because they don't believe. But together, you and I can convince them. Together we can save them. And so many others. From Lucifer. From that boy. You saw what he did. You saw the damage he caused. Just like Lucifer." Chloe heard enough and pulled out her handcuffs and cuffed Kinley, "You're under arrest, Father. For conspiracy to commit murder." Kinley chuckled, "Dear, dear girl, Oscar is dead and I have done nothing wrong myself. You have no proof. It's your word against mine." "There is always evidence," Chloe said. "I will find it and I won't stop until there's enough to put you away. Maybe I could get that boy, who has a name, to come in and get you to confess." "That won't be necessary," the other priest said. "I'll testify. Anything you need. I'm sorry, but you're sick, Will Kinley."
Chloe later went to Lucifer's penthouse after she dropped Kinley off at LAPD to be officially arrested. She walked out of the elevator and saw Lucifer sitting on a chair drinking whiskey. "Hi," Chloe said, making Lucifer look up at her. "I arrested Father Kinley, so you don't have to worry about him coming after you anymore. Um, how's Carlos holding up?" Lucifer said, "Carlos is fine. I calmed him down and sent him down to the guest level to rest. Don't worry about him." He then looked up and said ini a cold tone, "As for Father Kinley, I don't care that he was trying to hurt me. I care that you were. And it hurts when a boy with a mysterious past is more honest with me than you are." Chloe sighed, "Lucifer, you have to understand that after I saw you, saw your face, I had to get away, to process things, you know? And somehow I ended up in Rome. Kinley found me, and obviously I shouldn't have confided in him, but you know, at the time, it felt like he understood what I was going through."
"He said you found him," Lucifer interrupted. "He's lying," Chloe retorted. Lucifer put his glass on the table and stood up, "There's a lot of that going around." "Well," Chloe stuttered. "Yes…I…I did lie to you, and for a moment, I was helping him try to send you back to hell." Lucifer scoffed, "How could you do that to me? To me?" "Because I'm terrified!" Chloe shouted. "You are the actual Devil. I mean, every story of good and bad from throughout history, throughout time, says that you are the embodiment of evil. And how am I, Chloe Decker, a nobody, supposed to deal with that?"
Lucifer shook his head and walked to the balcony window. Chloe walked up behind him and continued, "But then I came back. And I saw you. I really saw you. And I remembered how you made me feel. And I saw you take in Carlos and saw compassion from you, for a child of all things. And I realized, Lucifer, you're not that guy." "No," Lucifer said. "What if I am that guy? What if I am a monster? A freak, as Carlos has been told about himself? By his own mother?" Chloe was horrified to hear that Carlos was called that, but shook her head and said, "You don't have to be. You could change. I see you changing for Carlos." Lucifer sighed, "One child may not be enough. What if I can't?" He revealed his Devil face and turned to Chloe, whose eyes went to the floor. "Could you accept me like this?" "I…oh," Chloe stuttered. "You have no idea how much I want to. I do. I'm trying." "But could you?" Lucifer prodded. Chloe tried to say something but all that came out of her mouth was, "I don't know." Lucifer's human face returned and he said, "Then I have my answer." Lucifer turned back towards the window as Chloe started two cry and walked toward the elevator to leave.
Over at the LAPD jail, Kinley was on the ground praying when he saw the other priest standing there outside the jail cell. Kinley stood and greeted, "Your Excellency. Did you change your mind? Are you here to get me out?" "I am here to take your confession," the other priest revealed. "I have nothing to confess," Kinley responded. "William," the other priest argued. "You are responsible for the deaths of three people. For what?" "I'm trying to save lives," Kinley retorted. "To stop the prophecy. When the devil walks the earth and finds his first love, evil shall be released." The other priest sighed, "Enough with this damned prophecy you're obsessed with." "The devil is walking the earth," Kinley argued. "His Holiness has issued an order," the other priest said. "You've been excommunicated." Kinley looked down and said, "I may have failed, temporarily, to prove that Lucifer is the devil, but at least I have pushed him and Chloe Decker apart. Maybe that will be enough to stop the prophecy." The other priest sighed, "Even tif Lucifer Morningstar was the Devil, and the prophecy was true, what makes you so sure Chloe Decker is even his first love?" "Of course she is," Kinley retorted. "Who else could it be?"
Over at Lux a few days in the future, a brown haired woman wearing a white dress walked in and went straight to the bar. "So many options," she told the bartender. "I'll have an appletini." The bartender made it for her and she took a sip while looking around like she was waiting for someone.
Back at the jail in present day, the other priest started to walk away when Kinley said, "Even though I separated Chloe Decker from Lucifer, there is still the hidden part of the prophecy that showed itself." The other priest stopped and asked, "What now?" Kinley smiled, "There's a word after "first love". The word "and" is barely visible next to it but I was able to make it out. And after what I saw in that house, that boy is part of the prophecy as well."
Over on the guest level of Lux, Carlos was sitting on his bed looking at the box Lucifer gave him. He pulled off the Ring of Envy and stared at it as his white hair returned. He closed his eyes and heard his mother's words that she told him right before he came to LA, "You want to know why you are a freak? Go find Lucifer Morningstar. He is responsible for what you are. He will show you what a freak you are." He cringed as her cackle rang in his ears and he opened his eyes, shaking his head to get rid of the memory and he opened the box.
"What word did you so happen to find hidden in this so called prophecy?" The other priest asked. Kinley smiled and said, "Heir."
Carlos picked up the feather that was within the box and thought back to what Lucifer said, "I know that my first few days as your guardian have been all over the place, but I think I want to be that figure in your life that you were talking about earlier that you need right now. Your mother may have betrayed you, but I never will. I promise."
"Heir?" the other priest asked. "What heir? You are talking nonsense. This has to stop. I will be praying for you. Goodbye, William." The priest walked away as Kinley whispered, "Not just any heir. HIS heir."
Carlos smiled down at the feather as he felt its calming effects and whispered, "Thanks…..Dad."
