Hello everyone, here is another story, a sort of mental health story

As the title says, this is about memory issues, more specific amnesiac episodes. This is going to be 2 chapters and this is chapter 1

Hope you enjoy it

Read and relax

Ace gave a breath, he still hadn't heard from Mika, which was a bit annoying, it had been hours now. He was working on fanfiction, just for fun, and he had a beta reader which he was waiting to hear from, Mika. He decided he could reread the story, but when he opened docs, he saw the fic was already shared with someone. When he opened to see who, he saw it was with Mika. How was that possible? He hadn't shared it, he hadn't heard from Mika, and he never shared before he got the all clear. So, he opened snapchat, to send a message to ask when he shared it, but frowned more when he saw it wasn't a blue arrow there, but a blue outline of a square. That meant he had read a message from her. That didn't fit. He opened the chat, and saw that 3 hours prior, there was his message about checking the fic was saved, and a couple more messages there. What was this?

He did send a message to Mika, asking what they spoke about, and he got an immediate answer that it was a normal conversation, but it had lasted a bit. And that had him frown even more. He didn't remember that. Ace decided it was nothing, he was a bit forgetful at times. Although this was a top. He decided it had just happened and went on with his life. But 4 days later, he had an appointment with his psychiatrist from the state; as he was on disability, he got a psychiatrist. He had gone to a normal psychiatrist before, but he didn't need to have 2, so they stopped the one which cost more money, which was fine. He had medication that worked now.

As he was out with the psychiatrist, Ace did speak about normal things, but then he remembered the memory accident and randomly brought it up, but it had his psychiatrist, Anna, stop in her tracks. "What? You forgot all that?" Ace nodded. "Yeah… But I am a bit forgetful." Anna shook her head. "No no, this is different from being forgetful. Not remembering whole conversations and actions. Has this happened before?" Ace shook his head a bit. "No, not that I know of." Anna nodded. "Okay, that might be good. Have you talked to your physician?"

Ace frowned. Was it that serious? "No, should I?" Anna nodded. "Yes. This isn't normal." Ace nodded, that made him feel troubled. Anna might be his psychiatrist, but she was from the state, she had no one she could contact and refer him to, or handle any medication. It was a bit annoying when he wanted to make small changes to the dosages. She could only give ideas, but he needed a doctor to actually do it. Anna did say he should call his doctor, and he would think about it. When she left half an hour later, he used a few hours to think before he decided to ask his doctor, but he didn't call, he wasn't fond of calling. So, he sent a message through the app his doctor had. He expected the doctor to call him. But 3 hours later, he got a message back, and he expected to just read 'nothing to worry about', but when he opened it, it said 'I want to see you face to face, make an appointment.' It had him blink. His doctor had never sent such a short message before, he didn't like it. But he would do it, so he ordered an appointment.

He did speak a bit with Marco, and told about what had happened that his memory felt faint, and Marco had to agree, it had gotten progressively worse in his opinion. Which was a bit of a shock to him, before he gave some examples, which all sounded right. Damn, he might be forgetting things. He did hope for the best though, that this wasn't anything dangerous.

The next day, Anna sent a message that she would drop by in a few hours, just to check on him, and he said fine. And Anna came to his house, and they spoke a bit about the appointment he had with his doctor, before Ace took a breath. "I've also been thinking of what I want to hear. If I want to hear 'It's nothing', 'you should get more tests', or 'it's the medication'. I don't know what I want to hear." Anna nodded. "Which I get. This is stressful. I get you're a bit upset." Ace nodded. "I am sure the next few days will move so slowly." Anna nodded. "Yes, I can imagine." Ace then sighed. "I also searched my meds and diagnoses." Anna gave a small hiss. "Not something I want people to do." Ace nodded. "Oh yeah, I said the same when I was going to nursing school. I regret it now. Didn't find anything special on my meds, just figured I got another side effect I had just brushed off." Anna nodded. "What was that?" Ace hummed. "I sometimes feel short of breath in the evening, after my evening dose, and that is apparently a side effect, I didn't know that, I just brushed it off as being tired." Anna nodded. "Makes sense."

Ace nodded, then sighed. "But I also searched my diagnoses." Anna nodded. "And, did you find anything?" Ace nodded. "I have a 25% chance of becoming schizophrenic." Anna blinked. "Really?" Ace nodded. "Yup. Scared the hell out of me. When I got my diagnosis, I was hella scared I was schizophrenic. And my psychiatrist said no. But now I know I can become one. But, Marco said I should focus on the 75% who don't become schizophrenic." Anna nodded. "You should do that. I have never heard of that." Ace nodded. "That's good. I think." Anna nodded. "It is."

They then wrapped the conversation up, before Anna left, and the next week did go by slowly, and then he had his doctor's appointment. When he was there, Ace looked at his doctor, who hummed. "Okay, any previous history with this? How long periods are we talking about?" Ace sighed. "I can pinpoint 2, I know at least 5 minutes each. But Marco says this has gotten progressively worse. I have forgotten entire series- series I loved-, things I used to know, not finding my words, mixing words." The doctor nodded. "Okay. We'll run some tests, blood today, and I will put up another appointment for you next week, on Monday, a double one, as I want to do a cognitive test, which can take a bit of time." Ace nodded, that sounded good, he was glad his doctor took him seriously. He then asked what it might be, and the doctor said it could be a lot of things, but he felt it might be because of being high, which made him frown. "I don't do drugs." The doctor nodded. "No, you don't, I hope. But your medication is serious antipsychotics and anti depression. They don't work so well together and might cause an amplified effect, which could cause a high." Ah, that made sense and he nodded. "Okay." The doctor spoke a bit more. And when he was done, he looked at his doctor. "Should I be worried?" The doctor humed. "No, try not to be. We'll know more in a week's time." Ace nodded, that sounded good.

He then took some blood tests, before he went home, and had his appointment with Anna a bit later and told how the doctor's visit went, and she was glad it had gone fine. He then tried to think more through things about what he had forgotten, and spoke a lot with Marco. He was the one he was most with and had a really good memory and could help him with this. He was a lot around Thatch too, but he wasn't the best with being serious and remembering things. So, he used Marco.

The week then went by, in a slow fashion at that, before he had his appointment with the doctor. They started by asking if anything else had happened on the memory side, and nothing he could pinpoint, so he just repeated his words from the last appointment. They then went over to the test, and it was started with easy questions- how old are you, when was you born, and such- before he got a test which was to fold a paper, before it was a simple connect the dots, before a bit harder one with both number and alphabet, but it went fine. Before he was told 3 words, then repeated them, then some math questions, before the words again, and he only remembered one word, which was embarrassing. Then it was a small physical, checking his eyes, his blood pressure, pulse, and such, and all came back good, aside from his pulse, which was a bit high, on 100. So, they would take an EKG when they had spoken.

The doctor then went through that he would speak to a college, and then take it from there, and they might take a picture of his head, which sounded serious and had him worried, but the doctor said he just wanted to be sure there was nothing, but he would first speak to his colleague, and he would contact him after it, that he would set a small reminder. But it wasn't the most important, as Ace had a session again in 2 weeks to set his allergy shot. So if he hadn't heard anything, he would ask then.

What also had happened, which he wasn't sure about, was Marco, who had a bit of his own way to show him how much he had forgotten. He often brought new food and asked if he liked it, and when he either said yes or no, Marco was like "Good, because you didn't like it half a year ago either", which had him ask if he had tasted it before, which Marco said yes, yes you have. Also, they had been through Netflix and looking at shows, and a few he felt looked really interesting, which had Marco click in on it, and lo and behold, he had watched the entire series, which he didn't remember. He had also started a new show on another platform, and he had been fuming for days when there was a double episode where episode 2 never came, and it was really interesting, until he went back to watch the first episode again to see if he missed a note, but then saw that yes, part 2 is there, and yes, he had watched it.

It had him sigh, he was forgetting more, this wasn't getting better. He actually felt how much he forgot now, compared to before. He could hold entire speeches and do assignments orally without a script before, now he couldn't remember names of characters in series he had binged, like watched over a hundred episodes and not remember more than a name or two. And it wasn't a show with that many characters to begin with. He had told his doctor, that he couldn't be this forgetful, it was horrible, and he wanted to be himself again, even if that meant to stop his medication, even though he was reluctant to do that. It felt scary as he knew how he was before he started his medication, how he had delusions and hallucinations, and felt horrible.

Then, after a few days, he got a message that there was a letter for him on the national health website, which was a notice of a summoning from the hospital. He then logged on and opened the letter, and it was from the hospital and that he had an appointment in a month's time with a psychiatrist. That means his doctor was sure this was about him being high from his medication. His doctor had said he would ask a coworker, and this was the outcome, he would go back to therapy. It didn't say who his psychiatrist was, so he didn't know if it was the same one he had had before. He kinda hoped it was, as she was pretty good. But at the same time, he wanted a new one, but he needed to wait and see. It was a whole month away. There was probably possible to call in and ask for an earlier appointment, but he could survive a month, this wasn't anything dangerous, he was just forgetting things.

But, he was also scared of what he needed to do. He either needed to change medication or stop the medication, or lower it, and all sounded scary. He didn't want a relapse, he needed the medication to be stable. He might have been a bit mellow lately, more so than usual, but he didn't want to stop as he knew what could happen. He just hoped the solution they would go with wouldn't make him have a relapse, he didn't want to be admitted to a psych ward again. Not that it was a bad place, but it meant he was much worse and needed it. He would just wait and see and hope that it would go fine and that he would get his memory back. He had never had the best memory, but it was much better than what it was now.

He hoped this would turn out well in the end.

And that's the first chapter! Hope you enjoyed

This is just a start and the next chap will be up in a bit, might take so time though

Also, many people can forget things happening or not remember characters in shows and there is no need for concern, but if there is a drastic change in this, especially a declining change, it should be checked out. Some people are generally forgetful when it comes to names and such, and that is fine
