It had been a few days since Lucifer and Chloe talked at the fountain. Carlos could see that he was tearing himself up inside about his feelings for Chloe. He certainly cared for her, but he feels that he doesn't understand how to love someone as he never got it himself. Carlos told him that he had faith that he would find out love, even though Carlos thought Lucifer did show love without realizing it, to him and Chloe.
Carlos called Jane up to chat with her and told her everything that happened since he came back to LA. Jane said, "So you rescued Chloe from your evil uncle, you met your grandfather, who turns out to be God, and your dad thinks he doesn't know how to love? OK, that's a lot." Carlos sighed, "I know. I mean, I get why my dad thinks he doesn't know what love is because he never got it growing up, but I was the same. When I first came to Auradon, I didn't know what love is. But through everyone in Auradon, especially you, I learned all about love and that I was capable of love. I fully believe that my dad is capable of the same." Jane replied, "Well, I believe that too. From what you told me, he seems to care a lot about Chloe. And he clearly cares a lot about you. He's made sacrifices for you, for crying out loud." Carlos chuckled, "Yeah, that's true. But I just want to show him that he does know and feel love. You know what I mean?" Jane replied, "Yeah, I know what you mean. And I know that you will help your dad realize that. OK, I have to go. Love you. I'll see you soon." "Bye, love you." Carlos said before hanging up. Dude looked up from his spot, "So, how's Jane?" Carlos smiled, "Good. Wait, she did say that she'll see me soon. What did that mean?"
Early the next morning, Lucifer was wide awake at 4 a.m. He sat up from his bed and got up, walking to his piano. He played a note, then sat down and started to play a song that came onto his heart, and he sang along,
The world was on fire
And no one could save me but you
It's strange what desires
Can make foolish people do
And I never dreamed
That I'd meet somebody like you
And I never dreamed
That I'd lose somebody like you
What a wicked game to play
To make me feel this way
What a wicked thing to do
To make me dream of you
What a wicked thing to say
You never felt this way
What a wicked thing to do
To make me dream of you
Now I wanna fall in love
I wanna fall in love
Ooh, I wanna fall in love
With you
While Lucifer was playing the song, it woke Carlos up and he, along with Dude, took the elevator up to the penthouse to see what was going on. Dude wanted to say something when they got there, but Carlos stopped him as he didn't want to interrupt his dad's song. When the song ended, they heard clapping behind them. Lucifer turned to see God standing there, along with Carlos in his sleepwear along with Dude. God said, "Hmm. I forgot what a wonderful voice you were blessed with." Lucifer chuckled, "Thanks to you, right? Well, it's only second to my relentless honesty. Can't say it's good to see you, Dad. And Carlos, I'm sorry, did I wake you up?" Carlos nodded, "Yeah. Why are you playing the piano at 4 in the morning?" Lucifer shrugged, "Hell if I know." Carlos knew that was BS but God interrupted, "Carlos. It is good to see you, my grandson." Carlos looked up at God, "Ah, hello. You seem cheery, grandfather. Even though when we last spoke, my dad and I went off on you a bit. Can I ask why you are here at 4 a.m.?" "My thoughts exactly," Lucifer added. God said, "Didn't Amenadiel tell you? I decided to stay a while." Lucifer scoffed, "Why? So you and Michael can wreck more havoc?" God answered, "Actually, Michael went home." Carlos secretly did a fist bump in the air while Lucifer said, "Sent him to his room, did you? Wish I'd been there. Back to the question, what are you still doing here?" God was confused, "Do I need a reason to visit my sons? My grandsons?" Lucifer chuckled, "Ahh. The old "answering a question with a question." One of my favorites. Here, let me have a go. Um, as for father-son hang time, how about when Hell freezes over? That do for you? Plus, I'm already doing my own father-son time that will trump any time with you."
Lucifer turned to walk away, but God said, "Samael." Carlos muttered, "Oh, crap." Lucifer turned around and got pissed, "No, no, no! In the short time you've been here, you managed to screw up my own chance at happiness, so please just stay away from me! And stay away from my son!" Lucifer pushed God into the elevator and hit the button so that the doors would close. Lucifer turned to Carlos, who said, "You really think you lost your one chance at happiness? I thought Chloe was giving you time to learn how to love." Lucifer sighed, "Yes, I know. She is. But only because your grandfather showed me that I don't know anything about love." Carlos shook his head, "Maybe not from him, but I think you've learned more than you know about it. From Chloe. And from me. Let me show you. And let Chloe show you." Speaking of, Lucifer's phone went off and Lucifer saw that it was a text from Chloe. Carlos sighed, "Just think about it, Dad. For now, I'm going back to bed. If that's Chloe about a case, wake me if you're going." "Finally," Dude said. "We can go back to sleep."
A few hours later, Chloe was at a high school at the latest crime scene. A referee was killed during the middle of a football game. Chloe was interviewing the mascot, who said, "I didn't see anything. It's hard to in this thing. You wanna try it on? It's a little smelly, but you'll see what I mean." Chloe shook her head, "No, I'm good."
She saw Lucifer and Carlos approach, Dude stayed behind as he wanted to sleep more. The two walked over to Chloe and she said, "Hi." Lucifer said, "Detective, I was surprised to get your text." Chloe nodded as they walked together, Carlos behind them. Chloe said, "I'm actually surprised as well, to see you here. I sent that text fours hours ago. I didn't think you were coming. But I'm glad you did. Same with you, Carlos." Carlos yawned, "Yeah, but this one woke me up at 4, so please forgive my sleepiness." Lucifer sighed, "Well, I assumed that you were, that we were…" "Having a disagreement?" Chloe finished. "Sure, yeah, I mean, all couples have problems, but we'll work through it. It's normal." Lucifer sighed, "Detective, you said it yourself. I'm not sure that we are a normal couple, or that this is an ordinary problem. As much as I…" "No," Chloe interrupted. "I thought about what you were saying and no. I don't believe you. There's no way that in all the time I've known you, you haven't figured out what love is and how to feel it." "I agree," Carlos added. Chloe continued, "So I believe that you are going to get out of this funk you're in and realize that you've had love all along. You just didn't realize it. But for now, at the very least, we're still partners, right? And when you've figured this out, maybe more." Lucifer sighed, but nodded, "Yes. Of course."
The trio walked over to Ella, who was taking pictures of the victim as Chloe asked, "You wanna catch Lucifer and Carlos up?" Ella nodded, "Oh, sure. So, it was the fourth quarter. It had just hit the two minute warning. Cathedral High is down by three, but they've got possession." "Question," Carlos interrupted. "Was this a pre-season game or an actual game of the season? Because I thought it was still summer vacation." "Second game," Ella said. Carlos shrugged, "I guess schools start sooner here than where I'm from. Sorry, Ella. Continue." Chloe then said, "Just skip to the important stuff." Ella nodded, "Flag on the play. Right. Well, poor Steve Rockwell here dropped dead at the 50 yard line." Chloe added, "Everyone thought he died of a heart attack, but Ella figured out he was murdered." Ella continued, "Yeah, someone wet his whistle with poison." "That blows," Lucifer replied. Ella smiled, "Nice." While Carlos shook his head. Ella then said, "What are you gonna do though, right? Another one bites the dust."
Suddenly music was heard and everyone around them started to dance. Lucifer noticed, "Miss Lopez, you all right?" But everyone kept dancing, policemen, football players, cheerleaders, band members, even Ella and Dan as Lucifer said, "Wait. Carlos, is this feeling like a musical number?" Carlos nodded, "Yeah. But this isn't Auradon. What's going on?" But then Chloe fell under the music's spell and eventually Lucifer and Carlos did the same and everyone started to sing and dance,
(Ella)
Ooh, let's go
Steve walks warily down the street
With the brim pulled way down low
Ain't no sound but the sound of his feet
Machine guns ready to go
(Dan)
Are you ready?
Hey, are you ready for this?
Are you hanging
On the edge of your seat?
(Carlos)
Out of the doorway
The bullets rip to the sound of the beat
(Lucifer)
Yeah!
(Everyone)
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone
And another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey, I'm gonna get you, too
Another one bites the dust
Bite the dust
I'm dusted
Another one bites the dust
Oh!
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
Hey, hey!
Another one bites the dust
(Carlos)
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyy!
Hoo, child!
(Everyone)
There are plenty to ways
That you can hurt a man
And bring him to the ground
You can beat him
You can chest him
You can treat him bad
And leave him when he's down, yeah
But I'm ready, yes, I'm ready for you
I'm standing on my own two feet
Out of the doorway, the bullets rip
Repeating to the sound of the beat
Oh, yeah!
Another one bites the dust
Oh!
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone
And another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey!
I'm gonna get you, too
Another one bites the dust
Suddenly everything and everyone were back to where they were before the musical number. Lucifer was confused. Even Carlos was confused, "OK, that is not like anything I've ever done back in Auradon. We never end up back where we started." Ella looked up, "What were you saying, Carlos?" Carlos shook his head, "Nothing." Lucifer looked around and saw God standing on the sidelines of the field. Carlos saw this too, "Wait, is he the reason…." "Yes," Lucifer growled as he walked over to God, Carlos following. Lucifer whispered, "What part of "stay away from me and my son" do you not understand?" God shrugged, "Just wanted to see exactly what it is you do for work. You're some kind of police assistant, is that right?" Carlos snorted as Lucifer corrected, "Consultant. Whatever. Just go away, Dad." "How'd you even know I was here, anyway?" God asked. Lucifer sighed, "Well, the singing and dancing was a bit of a giveaway. Since the only place I'd experience that is Auradon, where Carlos is from." God chuckled, "Ah, but fun, right? I did take some inspiration from Carlos' world. How did I do, grandson?" Carlos shrugged, "Fine. Having everyone go back to where they started is off." Lucifer argued, "That's beside the point. It is not what people do at a crime scene." God nodded, "Understood. From now on, you won't even know I'm here." Carlos noticed people dancing behind God and Carlos said, "I doubt that." Lucifer sighed, "Oh, God."
Chloe found the wife of the referee, Darla, who was a science teacher at the high school, and Darla said, "I truly have no idea who could have done this." Chloe asked, "Is that because he had no enemies that you know of?" Darla said, "No, because he had so many. Being a ref can be pretty polarizing. He had to make tough calls. A lot of people on the losing end of them would blame Steve. I'm a teacher myself. The kids, the parents, they take these things very seriously." Chloe then asked, "Did he have to make any of these tough calls recently?" Darla nodded, "Actually, yes, just last week. With the Mulholland High Saints and the Benedict Canyon Wildcats. The Saints lost, as it was an important game to them. People freaked out. Out house was egged, and we got threatening emails. It was bad." "Can I take a look at those emails?" Chloe asked. Darla nodded, "Of course. Anything." "Thank you," Chloe replied. "So, Officer Denny here will take the rest of your statement, all right?"
Chloe looked over and saw Lucifer and Carlos talking to God, even though she didn't know it was God, and Lucifer was talking harshly. Lucifer noticed Chloe walking over so he walked over to her, "Hi." Carlos walked up behind him and Chloe said, "Hi, guys. Who were you talking to?" Lucifer chuckled, "Oh, just, uh, someone in dire need of wardrobe advice. I mean, socks with sandals. Need I say more?" Carlos elbowed Lucifer, "Dad, tell the truth." Lucifer, feeling Carlos' power wash over him, sighed, "It's, um, it's my dad." Chloe was shocked, "Your dad? As in God?" Lucifer nodded, "Yes, and I know it's probably very overwhelming, please do not inflate his ego, Detective. It's big enough as it it." But Chloe walked up to God, and Lucifer sighed, "Here we go again. Carlos, why can't you order her to not talk to him?" Carlos shrugged, "I have a feeling she needs to talk to Him about some things."
Chloe walked up to God, with Lucifer and Carlos behind her, "Hi. Hi, God, I….Well…I'm Chloe. I'm guessing you already know that, but here's something maybe you don't know, and respectfully, sir, you are a terrible father. Not to mention a terrible grandfather. I am sure you had your hands full with creating the Earth, you know, the sun, the universe, whatever, but I know what it's like to be a working parent, and my two cents, again, respectfully, when it comes to Lucifer. you screwed up. Big time. You know, your kid acts up, and you kick them out of the house and go radio silent for thousands of years? That's just mean. Also, you left your grandson in the home of an insane, abusive mother, who made her son a slave in his own home, and physically and mentally scar him. He was lucky that he was taken out of that horrible Isle by his king, when you could have done that sooner. Respectfully." Lucifer secretly smirked while Carlos was shocked that Chloe stood up to God on his and Lucifer's behalf. God just smiled and shook Chloe's hand, "It's nice to finally meet you, Chloe Decker. I can certainly see how much you care for my son, and my grandson. Lucifer's lucky to have you." Chloe scoffed, "Right, 'cause I'm a gift? Speaking of, I'd like to talk…." Lucifer nodded to Carlos, who said, "Chloe, enough." Chloe immediately stopped talking while Lucifer said, "That's probably enough for our first meet and greet. We don't want anyone to get smited. Yes. Plus, we have a murder to solve. So off you pop, Dad." Lucifer motioned for Carlos to command him too, but Carlos said, "I don't think my persuasion would work on him." God smiled, "How right you are, Carlos." Lucifer dragged Chloe away and Carlos followed. Lucifer whispered, "Now you see what I've been dealing with?" Chloe nodded, "Yeah."
Over at Linda's house, Amenadiel was taking bubble wrap off of the ceiling fan, that's been there since before Charlie was born, along with the other bubble wrap. Linda walked in with Charlie and asked, "What are you doing?" Amenadiel sighed, "Oh, uh, I spoke to my father. Turns out we won't be needing this after all." Linda was confused, "Well, do wings come in later? Or is it, like, a puberty thing? Or is it something given later, because Carlos didn't have his wings right away because his celestial side was suppressed for so long." Amenadiel looked at Linda, "Charlie won't be getting wings, Linda, ever. I'm sorry to say that our son is just a normal human baby." "Well, that's a relief," Linda said as she put Charlie in the stroller. "Why do you look so sad? Do you not realize that this is good news? No more ugly-ass bubble wrap. No more worrying about a head on with a 737. I mean, this is fantastic." "Because he can't fly," Amenadiel replied. "Yay." Linda realized that Amenadiel was being sarcastic and said, "OK, wait. You're disappointed because you think angels are better than humans. Don't you?" Amenadiel nodded, "Well, yes, Linda. We are better. We can fly. We live forever. There's our superhuman strength. Did I mention that we can fly? I mean, no offense, Linda, but we are better." Linda sighed, "OK. Um, offense taken, Amenadiel. You know what? Why don't you fly this bag of shit to the trash while Charlie and I go on a lame human walk?" Linda pushed Charlie out of the house, leaving Amenadiel standing there with a bag of trash in his hands.
At LAPD, Chloe and Lucifer were talking to a mom and her son, who one of the players of the Saints football team and who emailed Steve with a threatening email. Carlos was standing behind the two way mirror watching the interview. Chloe read off the email, "You ruined my life, and I'm gonna make sure you never ref another game again. The world would be a better place if you would just drop dead." "Subtle," Lucifer commented. Chloe looked at the son, JJ, and said, "This email came from your account, JJ." His mother, Mrs. Bitner, said, "So?" Lucifer replied, "So it sounds like your son threatened to kill the referee who is now dead. Surely, you see where we're going with this." Chloe asked JJ, "So you're a linebacker for the Mulholland High Saints? And until last week's loss to the Wildcats, you had a full scholarship to SMU on the table?" JJ was about to talk, but Mrs. Bitner cut in, "You mean until the ref made the most asinine call in the history of high school football? Yes." Carlos was getting more and more pissed at this mom as he could tell that she was making all the decisions in JJ's life and he could see the look in JJ's eyes of wanting to live his own dream.
Chloe asked, "So you blame Steve Rockwell for the loss of your scholarship?" JJ shook his head, but Mrs. Bitner said, "Of course it's Rockwell's fault. He's a stupid ref who made a stupid call. He ruined everything for us." Lucifer caught on that the mom was making all the shots, "Don't you mean ruined everything for him? JJ, do you even want to be an LB at SMU? I mean, it's a lot of acronyms to keep track of, for starters." JJ wanted to say something, but Mrs. Bitner interrupted, "He doesn't know what he wants. He's 17. That's why I'm here, helping him, guiding him. Watching him." Suddenly God appeared next to Carlos, who took a few steps back in shock. The lighting dimmed and then the singing started,
(Mrs. Bitner)
Every breath you take
And every move you make
Every bond you break
Every step you take
I'll be watching you
(Lucifer)
Every single day
And every word I say
Every game I play
Every night I stay
He'll be watching me
(Mrs. Bitner)
Oh, can't you see
You belong to me?
How my poor heart aches
With every step you take
Every move you make
(Lucifer)
Every move I make
(Mrs. Bitner)
Every vow you break
(Lucifer)
Every vow I break
Every smile I fake
Every claim I stake
He'll be watching me
(Mrs. Bitner)
Since you've gone
I've been lost without a trace
(Lucifer)
I dream at night
I can only see your face
(Mrs. Bitner and Lucifer)
I look around
But it's you I can't replace
II feel so cold
And I long for your embrace
I keep crying, baby, baby, please
(Mrs. Bitner)
I'll be watching you
(Lucifer)
Every breath I take
Every move I make
Every bond I break
Every step I take
(Mrs. Bitner)
I'll be watching you
(Lucifer)
Every single day
Every word I say
Every game I play
Every night I stay
Every single day
Every word I say
Every game I play
He'll be watching me
The song ended and Lucifer muttered, "Bastard." God looked over at Carlos and asked, "How was that? An improvement?" Carlos thought for a moment, then nodded, "Yeah, better." Lucifer turned to JJ and said, "Forget what she wants. Speak for yourself, young man. Tell me, what is it you truly desire?" JJ answered, "I want to be in the CIA." Lucifer got confused, "Oh, did not see that coming." JJ clarified, "The Culinary Institute of America. I wanna be a pastry chef." Mrs. Bitner was confused, "The CI what now?" Lucifer slammed the table, "Madam, please! Ground your helicopter. It's time you let this poor boy make his own decisions. Heck, I have a 17 year old son myself, and I let him make decisions for his future. You should do the same with yours. I, uh, I need a word with my father."
Lucifer left the interrogation room and Chloe glared at Mrs. Bitner, who said, "OK, if you must know, I sent the email. But you can't hold me. You don't have any evidence that I killed anyone. You wanna know why? Because I didn't. JJ, let's go." But JJ said, "Um, I'd like to say something. I saw Mr. Rockwell arguing with some dude in the parking los a couple of days ago. I didn't recognize the guy, but it looked intense." "Can you describe him?" Chloe asked. JJ shook his head, "Not really. Un, tall, he was wearing, like, a ball cap. No, but he got into, like, this really old school yellow truck. Does that help?" Chloe nodded her head, "Yes. Yes it does, thank you, JJ." Chloe got up as Mrs. Bitner said, "Maybe you should join the CIA. You're a really good spy." JJ got disgusted and stood up and stormed out of the room. Chloe turned to Mrs. Bitner, "You really should start listening to him." "What now?" Mrs. Bitner asked.
Carlos looked over at God but saw that God disappeared. Shrugging, Carlos ran out of the room and found JJ. JJ was startled by Carlos and said, "Oh, I didn't realize there were other kids here." Carlos chuckled, "I'm just here with my dad. He was one of the interviewers." JJ realized, "You're the son he was talking about." Carlos nodded, "Yeah, I am. So I saw that your mom is kind of….." "Controlling?" JJ said. "Yeah. I hate it that she won't listen to me on what I want out of life. I actually hate football. I love pastry and that's what I want to do in the future. But my mom will never understand." Carlos sighed, "It's good that you have your own dream. I mean, I get it. When I was growing up, my mom lied to me saying that dogs were little demons that would hunt me down and kill me. She hated dogs so she wanted me to be afraid of them. But after I got away from her and meet a dog for the first time, sure I was scared, but then I realized that dogs aren't like what she told me. I actually now own a dog, and my my dream to become a vet. Does my mom like that? No, but it's my life. My dream. I think you can do the same with your mom." JJ looked down, "I don't know." Carlos looked at JJ, "Hey. You just need some confidence. I know you have it in there if you have that dream of yours. I mean, look at me. I found my confidence. I do everyday. So can you" Suddenly Carlos heard some music playing and realized that his grandfather was trying to have a musical number happen. Carlos shrugged and went for it, as he was use to it in his world. He started to sing and dance, and some police officers eventually danced along with him to the song,
There's a boy I find in my reflection
He is smart and kind, don't need protection
He's a warrior, and he is waiting for you
Just around the bend
Where every day you're a hero that lights up the night
Where you lead with your courage and dream with your heart
Where there's a whole new world
Starting now
There's no room left for wondering
Got a new vision of yourself
And he's who you wanna be
Starting now
Tell the moon that you're on your way
Tell the stars you will be right there
Say goodbye to yesterday
Starting now
The boy next door
That's how they see me but I'm so much more
I'm rising from beyond the sea, I've grown
Into the unknown
Up to where I see the light
I wanna take on my dreams with compassion and pride
I am courageous and strong with my friends by my side
Who knows how far I'll go?
Starting now
There's no room left for wondering
Got a new vision of yourself
And he's who you wanna be
Starting now
Tell the moon that you're on your way
Tel the stars you will be right there
Say goodbye to yesterday
Starting now
I'm starting now
Save the day, break the curse
I will always have a heart of gold, gold
There's a boy I find
His story is a tale as old as time
Starting now
There's no room left for wondering
Got a new vision of yourself
And he's who you wanna be
Starting now
Tell the moon that you're on your way
Tell the stars you will be right there
Say goodbye to yesterday
Starting now
I'm starting now, I'm starting now, now
I'm starting now, I'm starting now
Oh yeah, I'm starting now
Lucifer was looking around for his dad when the musical number started and Carlos was the center of it. Instead of being pissed at God, he smirked as he saw his son sing and dance like he owned the room. He could tell that Carlos was directing it at JJ and giving him the confidence to stand up to his mother. The song ended and all the police officers went back to where they were. Mrs. Bitner walked out of the interrogation room with Chloe and ran over to JJ, "Come on, JJ. Let's go." Carlos nodded to JJ, who took a deep breath and said, "Mom, stop. I want you to listen. I want to be a pastry chef and go to the Culinary Institute of America. If I have to get a job to pay my own way, I will. But I am putting my foot down. You are not going to dictate my life anymore. I have my own dreams that are not yours. Understand?" Mrs. Bitner huffed, "JJ, can we talk about this?" JJ shook his head, "It's what I want. And I am sure Dad will agree with me." Mrs. Bitner sighed, "Fine. Come on, we'll talk about this some more." They walked away, and JJ gave Carlos a thumbs up. Carlos smirked at JJ.
Lucifer went back to looking for God and Chloe noticed, "Are you OK? You thought your Dad was here?" Carlos walked over to them, "He was, he was standing next to me behind the two way mirror, then disappeared after the song Dad sang. Then it seems he reappeared somewhere to make me sing, and now he's gone." Lucifer sighed, "Well, as left JJ's mom is clearly guilty as sin. And Carlos, good job at giving him a backbone." Chloe argued, "Not exactly. No confession, no hard evidence. We couldn't hold her so we had to let her go. My gut says that she's innocent anyhow, so…" Lucifer interrupted, "Even if she didn't kill the ref, that woman is far from innocent. Poor JJ could have been permanently screwed, as his mother is overbearing and judgmental, but now it seems he is starting to gain some confidence. He needs to go out on his life and live like a normal person, and he needs to love like a normal person." Chloe nodded, "Yeah. I feel for him." Carlos said, "Best thing for JJ is to sever all ties with his mom and get away from her for a while. Maybe permanently if she won't change her ways." Chloe shrugged, "Or maybe he could keep his parent close so that they could work through their issues." Carlos was confused but Lucifer understood, "Rebuild their broken relationship so that he might let go of his anger and resentment and live a normal life." Chloe nodded, "And have normal, loving relationships. Yeah." Carlos then realized and thought, "Wait. Is she trying to get my dad to reconnect with grandfather so that he can understand that he actually understands love?"
Over at Lux, Dude woke up from his nap and stretched his legs, "Man, that helped make up for the lack of sleep I got. Hopefully Carlos will be back soon." Suddenly a portal opened and Jane stepped through. "Jane!" Dude shouted and he ran over to her and Jane bent down and petted him. "Hey, Dude," Jane said. "I wanted to surprise Carlos with a visit. Is he here?" Dude shrugged, "Not right now. He went off with his dad on a case." They heard thee elevator go by and they heard talking. Jane smirked, "I think I'll surprise Carlos now."
Lucifer and Carlos were in the elevator with God as Lucifer was going to invite God to stay with him. Lucifer promised Carlos that he would not have God take the guest level. Carlos was still a little unsure about his grandfather but understood that his dad wanted to try to mend things and he probably should too. The elevator arrived and they got off, Lucifer saying, "So, I'd give you the tour, but I know you've been spying, I mean, kindly watching over me for millennia. Uh, the bed's yours. I'll take the sofa. Carlos is taking the guest suite at the moment, teenagers need their space, am I right? Clean towels in the bathroom. But for you's sake, don't use mu loofah. That's gross. I got you your own." God then asked, "What exactly is this about, son?" Lucifer answered, "Well, remember that thing that I said about staying away from me and my son for all eternity? I take it back. I think it's time that you and I worked on our relationship so that I may have a better relationship. With my son and with Chloe. Ergo, mi casa es su casa, Dad. And I feel that you should get to know your grandson better, even after all the watching over you've done." God turned to Carlos, "Is this true, Carlos?" Carlos nodded, "Yes. I know that when I last spoke with you, I said….some things, but I think I can get past that, for now, and build a relationship with you like I did with Dad." God smirked, "How wonderful. Oh, and it seems you have a visitor coming up right now."
Carlos was confused, but then they heard the elevator doors open and Carlos turned to see Jane standing there. Jane smiled at Carlos, and Carlos said, "Jane." Carlos ran over and pulled Jane into a hug, Jane hugged him back. Carlos pulled away, "What are you doing here?" Jane shrugged, "I thought I would visit my boyfriend as a surprise. You surprised?" Carlos nodded, "Yes, but in a good way. I'm so happy you're here." Lucifer saw the love between the two and felt a little sad as he wished he had the same showing of love with Chloe. Jane saw Lucifer and God standing behind Carlos and said, "Oh, Mr. Morningstar, I'm sorry for the short notice. I wanted to visit Carlos for the day…." Lucifer shook his head, "Nonsense. You are more than welcome to come and visit Carlos." Jane looked over at God and whispered, "Is that your grandfather? God?" Carlos nodded as God walked over and shook Jane's hand, "It is very nice to meet you, Jane. I look forward to getting to know you along with my grandson." Jane nodded meekly and Carlos sighed.
They went to LAPD and Lucifer was giving the grand tour, "Interrogation's through those doors. Lots of judging goes on in there. You'd like that. Uh, donuts are here, a triumph of mankind, as I'm sure you're aware. Here. Have a sprinkled. You too, Jane." He handed God and Jane sprinkled donuts and Jane took a bite out of hers, Dude whining down below, but Carlos whispered, "None for you, Dude. They're bad for you." God said, "Very nice. I prefer the ones with the little cereal bits on top. But thank you. Carlos, would you like this one?" Carlos shrugged, "Sure." God handed him the donut and Carlos took a bit. Lucifer said, "Anyway, that's pretty much it. Miss Jane, what do you think of LA so far?" Jane answered, "It's certainly different from Auradon. Much bigger, less magical, I guess." God then asked, "So where's your throne?" Lucifer chuckled, "There are no thrones here, Dad. That's not how it works. You need to go to Auradon for that. Right?" Carlos and Jane nodded. God chuckled, "Right, I knew that. I meant metaphorically, where's your seat of power? You said you were very important here." "I am," Lucifer said. "But I, you know, prefer to stand, ready for action." "So you don't have an office?" God asked. "It's open floor plan, Dad!" Lucifer argued. "Dad," Carlos warned. "Chill a bit." Lucifer immediately calmed down and Jane said, "Nice. You're getting the hang of it."
"So where's your desk?" God asked. Lucifer sighed, but then saw Dan walking by and Lucifer stopped him, "Oh, Daniel, would you mind explaining to this gentleman how important I am to the investigation process?" "Not now, Lucifer," Dan said. "He has a desk," God pointed out. "Maybe if you work hard enough, you might one day rise to this man's level. Or you can maybe get one of these." He took a hold of the nameplate on Dan's desk, which made Dan say, "Uh, I'm sorry. Who are you?" Lucifer sighed, "Uh, Dan, this is my dad. You know, the big man. It's God." Dan finally understood and stuttered, "Hi. Hello….Huh….Hello….Uh, Mr., Your, uh, Highness, You Holy…" He then kneeled and said, "I am Daniel, Detective Daniel Espinoza. Nice to meet…. It's, uh, it's real nice, buddy. It's real nice to meet you." Carlos sighed as Jane giggled slightly. Dan stood up and God said, "Oh. I know who you are, actually. I believe you met my wife." He pointed to the picture of Charlotte on Dan's desk. "Right," Lucifer mumbled. Jane whispered, "I don't get it." "I'll explain later." God then said, "I'll be seeing you later. Or not."
Lucifer interrupted, "Anyway, Dad, why don't I show you the vending machines, hmm? Come on. Have you tried Cool Ranch Puffs?" Lucifer led God away as Carlos asked, "Dan, are you OK?" "No," Dan said. "That was God. The God. That means…..he's your grandfather. And I…..she was his wife? I don't…." "Breathe, Dan," Carlos command. "Calm down. It's OK." Dan calmed down and he finally noticed Jane standing next to him. "Oh," Dan said. "Hello." "Hi," Jane greeted. "I'm Jane. It's nice to meet you, Detective Dan." Dan realized, "Oh, you're Carlos' girlfriend. It's nice to finally meet you. You are here visiting Carlos?" Jane nodded and Carlos smiled thinking, "Jane always makes people smile." Jane continued, "I visiting here from Auradon…" "What now?" Dan asked. Carlos chuckled as he didn't want to tell Dan yet about where he was from as Dan was still recovering from finding out about celestials, "Story for another time."
Meanwhile, Ella was walking around looking at files when she heard Maze shout, "Here you go, Ella. Lunchtime." Maze shoved a handcuffed guy in her face and Ella said, "What? Don't…How dare you! I don't want him." Maze smirked, "Well, he's got a motorcycle." Ella stuttered, "Yeah, well, motorcycles are unsafe. Is it a Harley?" Maze nodded, but Ella snapped, "Just no, stop! Stop! What are you trying to do, torture me?" Maze answered, "Totally." Ella realized, "And you enjoy it, don't you?" Maze shrugged, "Hey, I'm just being me. Perfect the way I am." Ella sighed, "Maze, you say that you're bad, OK? But I think it's just an act. You put bad guys away, remember? Handcuffed, going to jail. You make the world a better place." "You're right," Maze said, as music started to play and Maze started to sing with Ella eventually joining in and people around the station dancing to the song,

Now, listen up
Now on the day I was born
The nurses all gathered 'round
And they gazed in wide wonder
At the joy they had found
The head nurse spoke up
She said, "Leave this one alone"
She could tell right away
That I was bad to the bone
Bad to the bone
Bad to the bone
B-b-b-b-bad
B-b-b-b-bad
(Ella)
No, I don't want your number
No, I don't wanna give you mine
And no, I don't wanna meet you nowhere
No, I don't want none of your time
And no, I don't want no scrub
A scrub is a guy
That can't get no love from me
Hanging out the passenger side
Of his best friend's ride
Trying to holler at me

The song ended and Ella ran off to her lab. Carlos and Jane had witnessed the entire thing and Jane whispered, "Um, was that a musical number we just witnessed?" Carlos nodded, "Yep." "But," Jane argued. "I thought that was only an Auradon thing." Carlos shook his head, "Maybe, but my grandfather got some inspiration from our world, I guess. I'm just happy we were not a part of that musical number." Maze walked by, "Hey, kid. Oh, is this is girlfriend I heard so much about?" Jane nodded, "Yes. I'm Jane. You must be Maze. Nice to meet you." Maze chuckled, "Cute." Maze walked away and Carlos said, "Come on. I want to see if Ella is OK. And introduce you."
Ella stood in the lab trying to get her breath back, "OK. Harley." Chloe was also in the lab and Chloe said, "Hi." Ella was startled, "Oh. Hi. Hey. Uh, did you, uh, find a yellow truck?" Chloe shook her head, "Uh, not yet, but, um, you OK?" Ella nodded, "Oh, yeah, I just got a couple of reports back from the lab. You know how excited I get. First, identified the poison. Components aren't easy to come by. You gotta order them through hospitals, chemistry labs, places like that." "Right," Chloe replied. "So not exactly a lead, but could help narrow things later." Ella smiled, "No, here is the juicy one. Other than the victim's, we found two other people's fingerprints on Rockwell's whistle." "Really?" Chloe asked. "So, anything from the AFIS?" Ella shook her head, "Nope. But I did get a hit on EDS." "Educational Database," Chloe said. "What, a teacher?" "Nope, again," Ella replied. "A coach. And here is the juicy juice. He drives an old school yellow truck." Chloe looked through the notes, "So, uh, Dale McVey, the coach for Benedict Canyon Wildcats. But doesn't make sense that he'd wanna hurt Rockwell, because his bad call made the Wildcats win."
They heard a knock on the door and Carlos and Jane opened the door, "Hey, Ella. Are you busy at the moment?" Ella turned, "Just going over evidence with Chloe. What's up? Wait. Who is your friend with you?" Carlos smiled, "Ella, this is my girlfriend, Jane. Jane, meet Ella." Ella squealed and ran over and hugged Jane, "It's so nice to finally meet you. And you are so adorable with Carlos." Jane pulled away, "It's nice to finally meet you too, Ella." Carlos added, "We just wanted to say hi and make sure that you were OK, after what Maze did." Ella shook her head, "All good." Chloe was confused, "What did Maze do?"
But then everyone heard Lucifer shout, "Dad! What are you doing? You're embarrassing me." Chloe, Carlos, and Jane exited the lab and walked over to Lucifer and God as they were arguing. God said, "I didn't say there was anything wrong with it." Lucifer argued, "It's not what you're saying, Dad. It's the way that you're saying it." "Dad," Carlos said and Lucifer and God turned to the three who had walked up to them. Chloe commented, "Good to see you two hanging out." "He doesn't like the coffee," Lucifer said. God sighed, "I didn't say that. I didn't say anything." "You spat it in the garbage," Lucifer retorted. "See, this is how it's always been with him. A subtle raised eyebrow, then straight to raining frogs. Here. Taste this, tell him it's delicious." Chloe shook her head, "Uh, not sure I should." God insisted, "Go ahead, child. Taste it. It's fine." Lucifer sighed, "Of course it's fine. That's why I want her to taste it. Taste it." Chloe argued, "I just don't think that I should get in the middle of this. I would really prefer not to. So, good to see you. Excuse me." Chloe walked away and God commented, "Now look what you did." Lucifer sighed and tried to hand the mug to Carlos, but he said, "Don't even think about it. Same with Jane." Lucifer sighed again, "Fine. You all come with me."
Lucifer marched all of them straight to Linda's office, and Carlos said, "Jane and I can wait out here. You two go ahead." Lucifer and God went over and Jane whispered, "What's going on?" Carlos sighed, "This is where my dad goes to therapy. Let's give him some space for a bit. We can take Dude for a walk so I can show you more of LA." Jane smiled and said, "Sure. I'd like that." Lucifer knocked on Linda's door and she opened it. Lucifer handed her the mug from LAPD, "Ah! Taste this."
Linda eventually had the two men sit down on the couch, but they sat at opposite ends and wouldn't talk. Linda sat in her chair, "I find these things are usually never really about the coffee. Perhaps you two could care to discuss what this is really about?" Lucifer chose to talk, "OK. He comes down here, judging every little thing, which is ironic because he made every little thing. Made all of us imperfect and then criticizes us for not measuring up. So, photoshop your selfies, prepare ye the way for Mr. Judgy-pants." God asked, "Is this one of those times when you say one thing and mean another? Because I certainly didn't invent that." Lucifer replied, "If you're referring to sarcasm, I'm not smart-alecky enough to take credit for that. Smart being in the title, to which I'm sure you'll disagree." God sighed, "There is goes again."
Linda said, "OK. God, perhaps we should start with you. Has Lucifer done anything recently to anger you?" God chuckled, "Of course not. I'm not angry about anything." Lucifer scoffed, "So, what? You just banished me to Hell for shiggles? Be honest! You were pissed that I threatened your superhero status and you were dying to punish me. You wanted me to suffer." God sighed, "It's impossible to make him happy. If I give my opinion, I'm controlling. If I stand back and let him make his own decisions, I'm the distant father with the mysterious ways. Whatever I do, he assumes the worst possible intentions." Lucifer retorted, "That's because nothing is ever good enough for you. "Why don't you have a desk? Why doesn't your cars have a roof? Why's your kitchen just a wall of Scotch?"" God argued, "I was merely trying to take an interest in your life." Lucifer turned to Linda, "He turned my crime scene into a music video. Got inspiration from Carlos' world apparently." God argued, "And I do believe I detected a certain baritone singing the loudest. Along with your son showing off his impressive dance moves." Lucifer retorted, "It's baritone-tenor split, and I can't help myself if the music starts. And Carlos is used to stuff like that. He loves to show off his dance moves. You know that, and that's why you're doing it!"
"Time out!" Linda shouted. "You wanna know what I think?" Lucifer chuckled to God, "Oh, this is where the advice comes in, so try to pay attention. I wouldn't want you to misinterpret anything." Linda said, "You, Lucifer. You are an archangel. You're able to fly. Live forever. Coax the desires out of all humanity. Fly. And you, God, you are Almighty God. You are the most important being in the entire universe. You made the universe. You did that. You've had millennia to evolve beyond all the petty squabbles that we have down here on Earth. And yet, you haven't. You're basically just like all of us. I mean, maybe even worse, if you consider all the time that you've had to evolve beyond all of this nonsense. I mean, take this father-son discord. So your son didn't turn out exactly how you'd hoped. So he can't fly." Lucifer was confused, "I think we've already established that I can fly." But Linda continued, "You know what a good father does? He loves his son. Unconditionally. Even if he doesn't have a fancy pair of wings. No matter what. Supports him. Heck, even Lucifer has shown that to Carlos as a father himself. You smell what I'm cooking?" Lucifer was touched at her mention of Carlos, but was still confused, "Uh, usually she's quiet perceptive, but I suppose everyone has an off day now and then." God then said, "I believe I smell what you're cooking. In fact, I think I know exactly what to do." He moved closer to Lucifer and put his hands on Lucifer's, "Get ready to be supported, son." "OK," Lucifer said reluctantly.
There was a knock on the door and everyone turned to see Carlos opening the door, "Sorry to interrupt, but I got a text from Chloe. She wants you, Dad, to go with her to interview the coach. Apparently you're not answering your phone. I told her that you were in a therapy session and I would pass on the message." Linda saw Jane standing next to Carlos and Dude at their feet. Linda smiled, "Carlos, who is this lovely lady with you?" Carlos smiled back, "Aunt Linda, this is Jane, my girlfriend. Jane, this is Aunt Linda, Charlie's mom." Jane walked in and greeted, "It's nice to meet you. I've heard so much about you." She leaned down and hugged Linda, who hugged back. Lucifer stood up, "Alright, let's go interview the coach then."
They all arrived where the coach was and went into the locker room. Jane hummed, "So this is what a boy's locker room looks like. Smelly." Carlos chuckled, "Yeah, guys can be smelly." Dude held his nose as the smells were too strong for him. God held up a pair of boy's underwear, and Lucifer ran over and knocked it out of his hands, "Ah, ah! Believe me, crabs are not a part of humanity you want to experience." God chuckled, "Whatever you say, son." Chloe was in there as well and asked one of the players, "Excuse me, do yo know where we can find Coach McVey?" "Should be here any minute," the boy answered. The boy eyed Jane and walked up to her, "Hello, beautiful. Fancy seeing you in here." Jane blushed in embarrassment and Carlos stepped forward, "Back off, bro." The boy backed off and walked away. God looked around, "What a lovely, sweaty room you've brought me to, Lucifer." Chloe whispered to Lucifer, "Are you two OK?" God answered, "Couldn't be better. I'm just happy to be here with my boy, grandson, and his girlfriend, having some affirming, receptive fun. Speaking of, go deep son." He picked up a football and threw it at Lucifer, the ball bouncing off of Lucifer. Everyone was confused.
Coach McVey finally showed up and Lucifer said, "Please tell me you're Coach McVey." Coach McVey nodded, "Can I help you?" Lucifer was about to talk, but God interrupted, "That's my son, Lucifer. He's a very important assist….consultant for the police. Doesn't have a desk because he likes to stay on the move." Lucifer groaned and Carlos walked up and pulled God back. Lucifer nodding his appreciation. Chloe walked up, "I'm Detective Decker, LAPD. What can you tell us about Steve Rockwell?" "I'm sorry, who?" Coach McVey asked. Chloe explained, "Well, a witness said they saw you arguing a few days before his death." Coach McVey realized, "Oh, you mean unnecessary ref-ness? Look, not to speak ill, but that guy was a judgmental prick." Chloe shrugged, "Well, it's sort of his job to pass judgment." Coach McVey replied, "Yeah, but he didn't have to be so goddamned sanctimonious about it." God said, "Oh, please don't bring me into this." Lucifer sighed, "Yes, it's not what they say. It's the way they say it. Am I right?"
Coach McVey realized, "Wait, you're not here because you think I had anything to do with what happened to the ref. I mean, I'm the last guy. That dumb-ass call got us into the playoffs." "Then why did we find your prints on the poisoned whistle that killed him?" Chloe asked. "OK," Coach McVey said. "Maybe I need a lawyer." Lucifer smirked, "Or maybe you'd like to tell us what it is that you truly desire." Jane whispered, "Is this what you call his thing?" Carlos nodded, "Yep." Coach McVey said, "I wanna be tackled by a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. The CIF championship would get me to the university level. And a few years of that, I'd be doing pros in no time. And by doing pros, I mean, well, you know what I mean." Lucifer groaned, "Yes, I know what you mean. But maybe keep that on the down low. My son's girlfriend is a cheerleader and I don't think she's appreciates that kind of talk." Jane shook her head as Carlos glared at Coach McVey. God whispered, "Excellent use of your special talent." Lucifer sighed, "One you can't take credit for, might I remind you, since I know we self-actualize, so yay me." God hummed, "Yes, of course. But technically, I made you self-actualize, so, team effort. Up high!"
God held up his hand, but Lucifer pulled it down. Carlos sighed in embarrassment. Chloe said, "Anyhow, do I did some digging. The very same day you were seen arguing with Rockwell, you made a big withdrawal from your bank account. $5000 in cash?" "Yes," Lucifer added. "Perhaps you made a deal with the referee to make a bad call and then decided not to pay up." Carlos could tell that Coach McVey was reluctant to talk, so he whispered to Jane, "Now for my thing." Jane giggled as Carlos walked up and said, "Tell the truth." Coach McVey followed Carlos' command, "Look, a week before the game, I did offer him a payout, just to, like, you know, nudge things my way. But Mr. High and Mighty, he turned me down. Then we get to game time, and he actually does throw a make or break in my favor. Worst call I've ever seen. SO I figured he was just posturing before. So I go to pay him off, he acts like he doesn't know what I'm talking about. Threatens to turn me in." Lucifer suggested, "So you killed the pious bastard to shut him up. #deservedit." Coach McVey shook his head, "No, I didn't kill anyone. But I think I know how my prints got on that whistle. A couple of days ago, someone broke into my truck, my baby. And they took my bag. It was just dirty clothes, but my whistle was in there." Chloe sighed, "We're gonna need to take your truck in for processing." "You're not gonna hurt her, are you?" Coach McVey asked. Carlos commanded, "Hand over the keys." Coach McVey handed Carlos the keys. God smirked, "Look at you, grandson. All firm and authoritative. You must get that from your dad. And you, my son, solving crimes like a real detective." He tried to give Lucifer a nudgie, but Lucifer said, "Dad, stop it." Carlos chuckled and handed Chloe the keys, "If you excuse us, Jane and I, along with Dude, are getting out of this locker room and spending some time with just us." Carlos led Jane and Dude out of the locker room.
Over at Lux, Amenadiel was sitting at the bar drinking when Dan came and sat next to him. They both greeted each other and Amenadiel said, "Lucifer told me that you found out about us. It must be quite a shock for you, Dan, learning that the celestial world does, in fact, exist. And if my divinity makes you uncomfortable at all, I'd be happy to give you some space." Dan shrugged, "Yeah, whatever. You're an angel. It's fine. But something funny did happen to me today. I met your dad. You know, God? The Almighty?" "I'm familiar," Amenadiel replied. Dan continued, "Maybe I misunderstood. But I think he suggested that Charlotte was his wife." Amenadiel said, "Oh. Yeah. For a while, my mom, the Goddess Almighty, was inhabiting Charlotte's body." "Right," Dan said, shocked. "And, you know, I'm just wondering, um, was the Goddess ever inhabiting Charlotte's body while I was inhabiting Charlotte's body?" Amenadiel sighed, "See, I prefer not to talk about this, Dan. But I do believe that there was some, uh, overlap." Dan replied, "Cool, cool, cool, cool. And when the Bible says that your dad is a, uh, jealous God, is that, like, a literal thing? I mean, surely he's way above all those petty human foibles and feelings, right? You know, like, um, jealousy or like murderous, revenge-driven rage?" Amenadiel thought for a moment, "Well, no. I don't believe he is above those things. Huh. But when nit comes down to it, Dan, I mean, we celestials are pretty much the same as you. Petty foibles and feelings and all." Dan sighed, "Well, that solves that. I slept with God's wife. Which means I'm definitely going to Hell. Whoo! Can I get a drink, please?" Suddenly music started to play and everyone started to dance and Dan started to sing with others joining in,

In the afterlife
You could be headed
For the serious strife
Now you make the scene all day
But tomorrow there'll be Hell to pay
(Everyone)
In the afterlife
You could be headed
For the serious strife
Now you make the scene all day
And tomorrow there'll be Hell to pay

Now, people, listen attentively
I mean about future calamity
I used to think the idea was obsolete
Until I heard
The old man stamping his feet

In the afterlife
You could be headed
For the serious strife
Now you make the scene all day
And tomorrow there'll be Hell to pay

Beauty, talent, fame, money
Refinement, top skill and brains
But all the things you try to hide
Will be revealed on the other side
(Everyone)
In the afterlife
You could be headed
For the serious strife
Now you make the scene all day
And tomorrow there'll be Hell to pay
Lucifer and God had entered Lux and God was the one behind the musical number. God smiled, "Such a lively place you have." Lucifer had enough, "Right, that's it! This bloody celestial karaoke jam, it has to stop." God nodded, "OK, son. From now on, ix-nay on the usic-may. Just as soon as this is over." God started to dance with the music and Lucifer sighed, "Oh, now he's dancing. I hope Carlos is having more fun than I am."
Carlos had dropped Dude off at the guest suite and he and Jane flew up, using their wings, to one of the skyscrapers in LA and sat on the edge, looking out at the view. "Wow," Jane said. "LA sure is big." Carlos nodded, "Yeah. When I first arrived here, I was lucky to have Evie's mirror to help me around this place. Despite the traffic, sex, drugs, and everything else that makes me sad for humanity, LA does have its bright spots." Jane hummed, "Yeah, hey Carlos. I know that our senior year is about to start. And I was wondering. Now that you and your dad have an established relationship, do you want to stay here after graduation or continue to live in Auradon?" Carlos looked over at Jane, "I have been thinking about my future. I mean, I still have dreams about becoming a vet, and technically I can do that in both worlds, but I still thinking about it. My dad may be here, but all my friends live in Auradon. And so do you. I want to be with you, Jane. But I still want to spend time with my dad. It's hard." Carlos sighed as he looked out at the view. Jane said, "Well, my mom is still wanting me to take her place one day as Fairy Godmother." Carlos turned to Jane, "And do you want that?" Jane shrugged, " I don't know. I mean, I do want to learn more about fairy magic now that Ben got rid of the magical restrictions that his dad put up. But more than anything, I want to be with you." Carlos smiled and gave Jane a gentle kiss. He pulled back and said, "Let's not worry about the future right now. I just want to focus on the present."
Jane smiled, "OK. You know, I am glad that you asked me out back at Cotillion. I was afraid that no one would love me for me. And then you came into my life, and I am very grateful for that." Carlos chuckled, "That's good. Even though Cotillion wasn't the perfect first date we had." Jane laughed, "Yeah, it was filled with sea witches, dragons, and lots of lots of water. I wonder what it would have been like without Uma crashing it." That gave Carlos an idea. But then Jane said, "It's getting late. I have to get back to Auradon." Carlos replied, "Wait, Jane. Um, can you come back here tomorrow night? At Lux? For a date?" Jane smirked and gave Carlos a kiss, "Of course. I'll see you then." Jane opened a portal and disappeared into it. Carlos smiled and said, "Cotillion just gave me an idea. But I should head back to Lux for now and call it a night." Carlos stood up, unfurled his wings, and flew away back to Lux.
The next morning, Lucifer was fast asleep on the couch, butt naked, when God said, "Good morning." Lucifer woke up quickly and covered himself, "Dad!" God handed Lucifer a breakfast tray, "Made you breakfast." Lucifer sighed, "Dad, I have boundaries." God huffed, "Oh, please! You think this is the first time I've seen you naked? In fact, if I had a nickel for every time I've seen a naked body in this room, on this couch, on that desk, on the banister, on the floor, on the piano…." Lucifer interrupted, "Just give me the tray, please." God handed him the tray, "Try the coffee." Lucifer took a sip and even though it tasted heavenly, he said, "Oh, it's a little bitter. Where'd you get it?" "Bolivia," God answered. "I picked it up this morning. Single source, organic. A wonderful farmer, aptly named Jesus. Had this unique roasting method…." Lucifer sighed, "Fine. It's incredible, OK? You win." God sighed, "Son. I am not trying to win. I just want what's best for you. And I want what's best for my grandson. What's wrong with that?" Lucifer sighed, "Nothing. You're right. I'm sorry, and thank you for the coffee." God smiled, "You're welcome."
The elevator doors opened and Carlos walked out wearing his normal clothes, white hair, and Dude by his side, who said, "Something smells good." God turned, "Ah, hello grandson. And Dude, I got you some treats that I'll think you'll like." Dude happily ran up to God and got the treats and ate them happily. God walked over and got out another breakfast tray, "Carlos, I made some breakfast for you as well. Here." Carlos looked over at Lucifer, Lucifer shrugging, and Carlos sighing at his dad's state of undress. Carlos walked over and sat down at the bar. He took a bite of the food and thought it was heavenly, that fact written all over his face. He looked up and said, "This is one of the best things I've ever eaten. Thank you." God smiled, "You're welcome. Dig in. I don't want you going hungry." Carlos felt sadness at that statement, remembering the times he did go hungry in his childhood from his mother not feeding him to the horrible leftovers Auradon sent to the Isle, some tears starting to build up in his eyes. God noticed and asked, "Is there something wrong, grandson?" Carlos shook his head and tried to dry his eyes. Lucifer noticed and said, "Dad, what did you do?" Carlos interrupted, "Dad, it's OK. Just bad memories is all." Dude whined from his spot on the floor. Lucifer quickly threw on a robe and walked over and asked, "Do you want to talk about it?" God added, "Let it out. It will help you feel better."
Carlos sighed, "Growing up on the Isle, we didn't get much. Clothes, furniture, food. Everything was left over from Auradon so things had holes in them, and the food was rotten most of the time. But we did what we had to. But I didn't always get to eat when I should have. Whether because there wasn't enough food for everyone, or the food was too rotten, or when my mother…..withheld food from me. So any food, even this, is miles better than what I ate growing up. And I have never gone hungry since I left." Lucifer hugged Carlos and God stood there, looking between Lucifer and Carlos. Carlos looked up at God and said, "But you knew all that, didn't you? Since you're all knowing. You saw me suffer on that Isle for years, knowing that I was your grandson, yet you or anyone else on my dad's side never showed up to get me out of there. Because the only person who knew was you. Since you kept it from everyone, including my dad." Lucifer was about to say something, but God interrupted, "I understand that you are angry with me, Carlos. Your rant at family dinner made that loud and clear. I know I left you to suffer throughout your childhood. And I am sorry for that. I hope that I can make up for the lost time like I am with your father. Like how you are making up for lost time with Lucifer. I can't change the past, but I want to do better in the future. For you." Carlos sighed, "I understand. Just to be clear, I don't trust you. But maybe that can change one day. Like how you are trying to regain my father's trust. Right, Dad?" Lucifer nodded and said, "Yes, Carlos. And I hope that I am making up for not being there for you in the past." Carlos smiled, "You already are."
God then clapped his hands, "So, son, when are we going back to work?" Carlos sighed as Lucifer said, "I am going now, actually, Dad, but I think you should take the day off. You know, rest, chill." God replied, "Yeah, I usually chill after six days of work. Besides, what else would I do?" Lucifer sighed, "I don't know, Dad. Don't you have other children to harass? I mean, visit?" Lucifer went to change into clothes as God said, "Well, Carlos, maybe we can hang out for the day." Lucifer shouted, "He's coming with me to work!" Carlos sighed, "Sorry, grandfather. But maybe you can start building that trust by looking after Dude today." "What?" Dude asked. Carlos turned to Dude, "Dude, you can keep my grandfather company today. He may even give you more of those treats." Dude instantly got excited, "Yes. OK, I am God's companion today." God chuckled, "OK, I think I can look after your dog today. You can count on me."
Over at LAPD, Chloe and Ella were going evidence and Ella said, "So the other thing is we processed McVey's truck, which was filthy, by the way. I mean, that is one dirty, dirty, man. Um, never mind. Anyway, other than the trash, we found some long hairs stuck down by where he said he kept his gym back. Lab reports say that those hairs were dyed orange and blue. Temporary dye, the kind that rinses out." Chloe asked, "What, the kind fans use for football games?" Ella nodded, "Yeah. And it looks like Rockwell has indeed reffed for a school whose colors are orange and blue. Van Ness High." Chloe noted, "But that's not one of the schools involved in that controversial call." Ella shrugged, "He was a ref for a long time. Probably made some stinky calls over the years. Maybe Van Ness was one of them?" "Definitely possible," Chloe replied. "But whoever killed Steve must've known about the fight between him and McVey." "Right," Ella agreed. "Or they wouldn't have known who to frame." Chloe nodded, "OK. I'll call JJ, see if he saw anyone from Van Ness in the parking lot the night of the argument, and thank you, El."
Chloe walked over to her desk and wrote some things down. She heard whistling and looked up to see Lucifer standing there. Carlos was standing next to him. "Hello, Detective," Lucifer greeted. "Hey, Chloe," Carlos greeted. Chloe smiled, "Hi. You're in a good mood. Things going well with your dad?" "Only 'cause he's not here at the moment," Lucifer answered. "He's watching Dude for me today," Carlos clarified. Lucifer added, "Personally, I've had it up to here with his sacrosanct American Idol." Chloe was confused, "What are you talking about?" Carlos realized, "Oh, she doesn't know." "Right," Lucifer agreed. "Humans don't seem to realize, but Dad has been making people break out into song and dance at his every whim. And it could not be more patronizing." "Wow," Chloe replied. "Yeah, that is weird. Right, Carlos?" Carlos shrugged, "Not for me. It happens a lot in Auradon. Grandfather got his inspiration from there." "For him it's not," Lucifer said. "It's just like him to decide something's so inadequate it requires a scared zhuzh. Classic Dad. Always judging. Can you imagine living with that? Eon after eon." Chloe realized something and was looking through her notes. Carlos noticed, "Chloe, you OK?" Chloe nodded as Lucifer asked, "What are you looking for?" "Witness statement," Chloe answered. "What do you know. D you two wanna take a trip to Van Ness High?"
Meanwhile, Linda was walking Charlie in the park, "Sorry we're just walking, baby. I know it's not as cool as flying. But at least we've got each other. Right?" Suddenly music started to play and everyone around her started to dance and Linda started to sing,
I see the crystal raindrops fall
And the beauty of it all
Is when the sun comes shining through
To make those rainbows in my mind
When I think of you sometime
And I wanna spend some time with you
Just the two of us
We can make it if we try
Just the two of us
Just the two of us
Building castles in the sky
Just the two of us
You and I
Suddenly Amenadiel appeared out of nowhere and started to sing,
Yeah, yeah
From the first time
The doctor placed you in my arms
I knew I'd meet death
Before I'd let you meet harm
Although questions arose in my mind
Would I be man enough
Against wrong
Choose right and be standin' up?
From the hospital
That very first night
Took an hour
Just to get the car seat in right
People drivin' all fast
Got me kinda upset
'Cause I know I loved you
More than life itself
To my knees, I begged the Lord
Please let me be a good daddy
All he needs
Love, knowledge, discipline too
I pledge my life to you
(Everyone)
Just the two of us
We can make it if we try
Just the two of us
You and I
(Amenadiel)
Daddy loves you, Daddy loves you
(Everyone)
Just the two of us
Building castles in the sky
Just the two of us
You and I
(Amenadiel)
Just the three of us, yeah
Just the three of us
Just the three of us
The song ended and God was standing nearby with Dude. Dude looked up, "So that happened." God chuckled, "Yeah. It seems my son, Amenadiel, really cares for Linda and Charlie. Especially Charlie." Dude sighed, "Maybe he just wants to be a good dad." God nodded, "You're right."
Chloe, Lucifer, and Carlos went to Van Ness High School and went into a science classroom, where Darla was working on grading tests. She looked up, "Detective! Hi. What are you…Wait. Did you catch Steve's killer?" Chloe shook her head, "No, but we do have a new lead. Seems like the killer came from this school and not one of the two involved with the bad call." Lucifer agreed, "Yes, someone with an abundance of school spirit." He pointed to the number of posters of the school along the classroom walls. Darla said, "Well, I wish I could help you, but there's hundreds of students at this school. Unless you have a way to narrow it down." "Actually we do," Chloe revealed. "We tested the poison that killed your husband, and the chemical components can't be bought over the counter, but they could be ordered from, say, a school chemistry lab." Darla stood up, "OK. You're not suggest…" Chloe interrupted, "Did Steve tell you that he argued with Coach McVey?" Darla shrugged, "I mean, he might have mentioned it, but like I said, Steve had a lot of enemies." "But only one who left their hair behind while stealing McVey's whistle," Chloe commented. "It must have been difficult living with someone so judgmental," Lucifer said. Chloe sighed, "Anyhow, we're gonna take the hair, and we're going to run it against your DNA, so if there's a match…"
Darla sobbed, "You can't imagine. Nothing was ever right. The chicken was overcooked. The TV's on motion smoothing. My socks aren't white enough." "Your coffee sucks," Lucifer commented. "Believe me, I know." "Everyone knows people like that," Carlos added. Darla continued, "Twenty years. Nothing was ever gonna change. No matter what I did. I had to get out. Please understand." Chloe pulled out her handcuffs, "Darla Rockwell, you're under arrest for the murder of your husband." Darla quickly grabbed a burner and pointed it at the trio, but Lucifer stood in front of it with his hand raised, his hand taking on the flames, "I don't think so." Carlos commanded, "Put the burner down and put your hands behind your back. Now!" Darla did as Carlos commanded. Lucifer looked down at his ruined sleeve, "Bloody polyester mix." Chloe handcuffed Darla, who said, "How did you? It's…." Chloe asked, "You OK?" Lucifer scoffed, "Yes. Of course I am."
Police came and took Darla away. Carlos stood next to Lucifer, "Sorry about your jacket, Dad. I should have stopped her sooner." Lucifer sighed, "It's OK, Carlos. No need to cry over a ruined jacket." Chloe walked over and Carlos knew that they needed to talk, "You know, I need to head back to Lux. Something important I need to go do." Carlos walked away and Lucifer said to Chloe, "You know, as loony as that poor woman is, she does make a fair point. People don't change. And I'm afraid dear old Dad isn't going to, either. No matter what he promises." Chloe chuckled, "Yes, but it's only been one day." Lucifer continued, "And every day before that since the beginning of time." Chloe replied, "No, I mean that's it only been one day since you've been trying to make amends. You can't fix thousands of years of pent up issues overnight." Lucifer sighed, "I'm not sure that there are enough nights. I think we may simply be too far gone. I may be too far gone." Chloe looked up at Lucifer, "I refuse to believe that, Lucifer. I have faith in you. I know that you'll work through this. I know you will. Because everyone is capable of love. No matter what. Your dad is. And you are too. Just like your son has found love all on his own. You will as well." Lucifer sighed and walked away, leaving Chloe standing in the hallway alone.
She returned home and spent some time with Trixie, eventually kissing her good night. She walked over to the kitchen and pulled down a picture Trixie drew of herself and Lucifer. She sat down and stared at it while music started to play and Trixie poked her head out of her room and started to sing,
Smile, though your heart is aching
Smile, even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky
You'll get by
If you smile
Through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come
Shining through
For you
Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear
May be ever so near
That's the time
You must keep on trying
Smile
What's the use of crying?
You'll find
That life is still worthwhile
If you just smile
The song ended and God was standing outside Chloe's home. He wanted to knock on the door, but couldn't. He looked down at Dude and whispered, "I need to go talk with my son."
Over at Lux, Carlos was waiting for Jane to arrive. Suddenly a portal opened and Jane walked through. Carlos smiled, "Jane, glad you could make it." Jane nodded, "So, you said you wanted to have a date with me?" Carlos nodded, "Yeah, but not just any date. You talking about our first date at Cotillion gave me an idea." He didn't see God standing near the elevator as he came down after putting Dude back in the guest suite. And he didn't see Lucifer standing at the entrance of the club. Carlos pulled out his ring and used its illusion magic to have him and Jane wear their nice clothes that they wore at Cotillion. Jane twirled around in her dress and Carlos chuckled, "You really did look beautiful in that dress." He did another illusion spell and the club turned into the yacht where Cotillion took place. God was hiding near one side of the staircase and Lucifer was hiding near another. Jane walked over and said, "You made it look like we're in Auradon, on that yacht, where we had Cotillion." Carlos nodded, "Yeah, I wanted us to relive our first date, without the crazy shenanigans this time." Suddenly music started to play, Carlos could now sense God was nearby and silently thanked his grandfather. He turned to Jane and said, "May I have this dance, milady?" Jane giggled, "You shall." Carlos grabbed her hand and led her through a waltz, and the two started to sing along with the music,
(Carlos)
I found a love for me
Darling, just dive right in and follow my lead
(Jane)
I found a boy
Beautiful and sweet
(Carlos and Jane)
I never knew you were someone waiting for me
(Carlos)
'Cause we may be kids
(Carlos and Jane)
But we're so in love
Fighting against all odds
I know we'll be alright
This time
Darling, just hold my hand
(Carlos)
Be my girl
I'll be your man
(Jane)
Be my man
(Carlos)
I see my future in your eyes
(Carlos and Jane)
Baby, I'm dancing in the dark
With you between my arms
Barefoot on the grass
Listening to our favorite song
(Carlos)
When I saw you in that dress
Looking so beautiful
(Jane)
I don't deserve this
(Carlos)
Darling, you look perfect
(Carlos and Jane)
Baby, I'm dancing in the dark
With you between my arms
Barefoot on the grass
Listening to our favorite song
I have faith in what I see
Now that I have met an angel in person
And you look perfect
I don't deserve this
You look perfect
Tonight
The music ended and Carlos leaned in and gave a passionate kiss to Jane, who happily reciprocated. The yacht disappeared around them and the club returned. God looked over at Lucifer, who was staring down at Carlos and Jane and feeling the love they had for each other. Lucifer thought, "Carlos really does love her. Maybe he and Chloe were right. Maybe I am capable of love. But like that?" God disappeared and Lucifer snuck his way to the elevator so he could give the two lovebirds some privacy.
Lucifer arrived up at the penthouse and God was standing there waiting, "How was you day, son?" Lucifer sighed, "Incendiary. How was yours? Did you handle Dude alright?" God smiled, "Really good. Dude is quite the talker. But that's what you get when you feed a dog a truth gummy. But Dude really cares about Carlos and I didn't want to let the boy down. Anyway, I took your advice and went to see Amenadiel. He's gonna be a wonderful father. Just like you are to Carlos." Lucifer poured himself a drink and scoffed, "Yes. I know I am." God sighed, "Sama….Lucifer. I wish I could….I want to….know what you've done to your suit." Lucifer groaned, "Don't suddenly pretend you're not omnipotent. But if you wanna make fashion small talk, I had a run in with a lady. We had bbad chemistry." God sighed, "Well, I'm glad you're OK." Lucifer slammed his glass down, "How could I not be, Dad? No one can hurt me, remember? I am dandy! Even though I hate that term. Just perfect. Completely unscathed and forever invulnerable." God said, "I definitely believe this is one of those times you're saying one thing and mean another." Lucifer chuckled, "You know, it was bad enough, rejecting me, forcing me down to Hell. But I have a life here. I have a good thing! The Detective, she makes…made me vulnerable, but it's terrifying, but it's also amazing! And I discovered that I have a long lost son who is smart, brave, and everything that I wish he could be. And for the first time in my long, hopeless life, I feel something. And then you just turn up and you try to ruin it. Why?" Suddenly music started to play and Lucifer and God started to sing a duet,
(Lucifer)
I dreamed a dream in times gone by
When hope was high
And life worth living
I dreamed that love would never die
I dreamed that God would be forgiving
But I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made
And used and wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung, no wine untasted
(God)
But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hope apart
(Lucifer and God)
As they turn your dreams to shame
(Lucifer)
And still I dream she'll come to me
That we will live the years together
(Lucifer and God)
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms we cannot weather
(Lucifer)
I had a dream my life would be
So different from this Hell I'm living
So different now from what it seems
Now life has killed the dream
I dreamed
The song ended and Lucifer sat down and held his head in his hands. God walked over and put his hand on Lucifer's shoulder, "Oh, my son, the Light Bringer. So full of light that it blinds even you sometimes." Lucifer asked, "What does that even mean?" God sighed, "It means, I understand that you're angry at me. And I'm so very sorry about that." Lucifer sighed, "So, you're sorry for me, but you're not sorry for what you've done." "I didn't say that," God argued. But I will say that I cannot fix you, Lucifer." "But you're God," Lucifer cried. "OK, fine. If you can't fix me, Dad, then at least stop trying to control me." "How do I control you?" God asked. "You just made me sing again!" Lucifer shouted. "I mean, it has to stop, Dad." Lucifer looked up and saw that God was crying, "Actually, I don't think that's possible." Lucifer groaned, "Right, well, if you're not gonna try, then I don't know why I should bother." God sighed, "It's not that I won't. It's that I'm not sure I can." "What does that mean?" Lucifer asked. "My powers, son," God answered. "I think I'm losing control of them." God started to sob and Lucifer looked at his father, "Dad?"
