Linda was driving and had Maze on speaker phone, "That's pretty cool, Maze. You're growing a soul. Amazing. And God told you. Wow." Maze said on the other line, "Well, he didn't "tell" tell me. I was complaining that a demon can't grow a soul, and God said, "Can't she?" Annoyingly vague, I know, but there was this glint in his eye, and I just knew. I had no idea growing a soul was an option. I mean, I was looking for one like ti was a thing I could eat, maybe, or like a shimmery cloud that you could breathe in or something, but nope, I grew it inside my body, like a little soul baby." Linda sighed, "Well, having seen a glimpse into how Lucifer's father works, I guess it makes sense, right?" Maze replied, "Yeah, right, yeah, that self-actualization BS. But now my question is, am I done growing it? I know it's been 5 months since he told me, but maybe I'm not done." A car that was in front of Linda then went into another lane and sped up. Linda saw it as Maze asked, "Uh, Linda, are you listening?" Linda sped up and followed the car, "Uh, yes, Maze, of course. So, do you feel done since it's been five months since you've known?" Maze replied, "God, therapists, does everyone answer questions with other questions?" Linda sped through a red light and cars honked, which Maze heard, "What was that?" "Nothing," Linda lied.
Linda followed the car to a house and Linda saw the occupant get out and walk inside. Linda said, "Hey, I can't talk right now." Maze sighed, "You're doing it, aren't you? Don't even think about lying to me, Linda. I told you this was a mistake. You are going to get hurt." Linda said, "I know what I'm doing." She then hung up. She reached into her glovebox and pulled out a gun before getting out of the car.
Early the next morning, Lucifer is sitting on the couch making miniature ships for bottles, "Just raise up the tip. Hello, sailor." He didn't hear Amenadiel come in, "What on earth are you doing? Enough with these silly distractions, Lucy." Lucifer scoffed, "Excuse me! The impossible bottle is a time honored craft of which I was reminded of a few months back during a case." Amenadiel hummed, "And what about the prank you pulled on poor Dan?" "Very important business," Lucifer replied. "It took weeks to plan, and despite Dan's little trip to Auradon, it was a success, and now that it's over, I think I'm gonna learn the French horn. Been meaning to do that." He got up and started to play a French horn while Amenadiel said, "Lucifer! Look, I get that you're trying to starve off boredom since Carlos had to go back to Auradon, but it's been months. And the boy had been visiting from time to time. Plus, isn't his birthday coming up?" Lucifer nodded, "Yes, today in fact. I've been corresponding with Jane and she's going to have Carlos come here so that Jane and Carlos' friends can plan a surprise party back in Auradon. So I'm just waiting for his arrival and then it's father son bonding time. Perhaps we should fly over to England, the drinking age there is 18 and I promised I would take Carlos out for his first drink. Hopefully I can make up my mistake with Dan and show Carlos that I am worthy to be his dad." "Lucy," Amenadiel argued. "You've already shown that." Lucifer sighed, "Maybe. Maybe not."
Amenadiel sighed, "Lucifer, we also need to discuss Father. God might be retiring, Lucy. God. We need to figure out what to do if he does." Lucifer sighed as he put down the French horn, "Oh, that. Well, if I have been avoiding something for months, it's certainly not that. Don't get your feathers in a twist. There's nothing to figure out. So Dad's retiring. He's had quite a run, if you ask me." Amendiel said, "The world can't be without a God." Lucifer walked over to the bar and started to mix drinks for himself and Amenadiel, "You're right. Somebody will replace him. And by somebody, I mean you." "Me?" Amenadiel asked. Lucifer sighed, "Don't play coy, brother. You've been training for this since you were in angel nappies. God's right hand, the greatest warrior, his bloody favorite son." Amenadiel shrugged, "Well, you're not wrong there." Lucifer continued, "You have wanted this your whole life." "I've never said that," Amenadiel argued. Lucifer finished mixing the drinks and poured them into glasses, "You don't need to say it, brother. Words are just words. I know how you feel. Honey lemon whiskey sour? I took a mixology course the other day. Variety is the spice of life, you know."
He handed a drink to Amenadiel, who sighed, "Lucifer. Being God isn't simple. It's a big job. The biggest. How would I even go about making that decision?" Lucifer replied, "Well, in situations like these when much is at stake, I like to ask myself, "What's your knee jerk reaction? You obviously want this, so leap before you look."" Amenadiel retorted, "Maybe that's how you used to act, but, dear brother, you've changed. Don't pretend otherwise. It's the therapy. Linda has really helped you to be more mindful, to really think things through." Lucifer scoffed, "How dare you! But maybe you're right. Therapy has ruined me! I've been overthinking all of my decisions when really the answer is at our feet! Just do it. Well, not my feet. I'm clearly a Louboutin man, but you know what I mean. And Carlos has been on me for realizing that I have it in me all along. I can just go with it and show that I'm worthy. Thank you, brother."
Over in Auradon, Carlos was still sleeping when Dude started to lick his face. Carlos groaned, "Dude, five more minutes." Dude barked, "Carlos, wake up. It's your birthday." Carlos rolled over, "So? Just let me go back to sleep." Carlos then heard a giggle, "Come on, birthday boy. Rise and shine." His eyes shot open and he turned in his bed to see Jane sitting on the edge of it. Carlos sat up, then remembered that he wasn't wearing a shirt and immediately pulled the covers up. He blushed and said, "Hi, Jane." Jane chuckled, "Good morning. I thought I'd greet my boyfriend on his big day. I didn't mean to startle you." Carlos gulped and reached for his shirt and put it on, "It's OK, Jane. It's just…..I should have cleaned up more if you were coming." Jane chuckled, "It's fine. I've been in here before, remember? Now, would you like your first present?" Carlos nodded meekly as Dude jumped off the bed. Jane leaned in and kissed Carlos passionately, which Carlos eagerly returned. He pulled her down and she laid on top of him as they continued to make out, both of them reaching their hands under each other's shirts. But then Jane pulled away, "As much as I liked that, we shouldn't get carried away." Jane got up and Carlos groaned as he sat up.
Jane then said, "I talked with your dad and you two are going to spend the day together in LA." Carlos' eyes light up, "That's awesome. I mean, even though I'm still a little peeved at him for the whole Dan thing, I would love to hang out with him. But what about you? And our friends?" Jane chuckled, "Don't worry. We have time later. Trust me. Don't make me ruin your other surprises. And Dude, you are staying here." Dude whined, "But I want to hang out with Carlos too." Jane petted Dude, "Let Carlos have a day with his dad. He'll be back before you know it." Carlos nodded in agreement, "Then I should get ready." Jane added, "Just keep me updated on your day. And I'll let you know when your surprise is ready. Just go to LA for today. OK?" Carlos nodded as Jane walked out of the room. Carlos ran to his closet and got ready.
Back in LA, Chloe was sitting at the bar in Lux sighing to herself. She was frustrated that her relationship with Lucifer has been put on hold for so long. She knows that she agreed to give Lucifer time, but it's been five months. She heard a horn behind her and turned to see Lucifer holding a French horn, "Sorry. It's just my French horn. I'm just on my way to chuck it out. What are you doing here?" Chloe sighed, "I needed to talk about us. I know that I said I could wait until you figured things out, but know I realize that I might not be able to, since it's been months. This whole relationship limbo, it's really hard, you know? And it's been affecting other people, like Trixie, for one. And I know you've been dealing with missing your son too. And, you know, you are immortal, so that means that I could be waiting for a very long time. Like, forever. But my point is that I can't wait, and it's not because you didn't say, you know, those words, 'cause, looks, words are just words. And I think I know how you feel, but I….right now, I just….I need to know. One way or another, I need to know if we're together. That's it."
Lucifer looked straight into Chloe's eyes and said, "Yes." Chloe was shocked, "Yes?" "Yes," Lucifer repeated. "Let's just do it." "What?" Chloe asked. Lucifer continued, "It's obvious we want to be together, so let's just stop overthinking it and just be together!" Chloe smiled and said, "OK." They leaned in and kissed each other, but the French horn got in the way. "Sorry," Lucifer apologized. He set the horn down and kissed her again, then hugged her.
Chloe pulled away, "Um, so we have a case, and I also wanted to know if you wanted to come with my to the crime scene." Lucifer nodded, "Yes, well, I do, but today is…." The elevator opened nearby and Carlos stepped out, "Dad!" Lucifer turned and smiled, "There's the birthday boy." Carlos ran over and hugged Lucifer, who hugged him back. Chloe was shocked, "Wait, your birthday is today? Lucifer said it was soon, but I didn't know how soon." Lucifer pulled away, "Yes, I was planning on spending the day with Carlos, so I'm sorry, Detective, I know we just decided that we are going to start our relationship again, but the case…" "Wait, Dad," Carlos interrupted. "So you two just decided to start your romantic relationship again? Since when?" Lucifer sighed, "Well, I decided that I should stop overthinking things and just do it." Carlos smirked, "Good for you. Now, I think you should go with Chloe on this case." Lucifer was confused, "But, Carlos, it's your birthday." Carlos waved him off, "It's OK, Dad. Going with you and Chloe and solving cases, it's something I like to do and since I've been gone for months with small visits, I miss it. I would love to help you guys solve a case." Chloe smiled, "Thank you, Carlos. We would love to do this for your birthday." Lucifer sighed, "Alright, if that is what you wish. But we are still flying around the world at some point today." Carlos was confused, "Why?" Lucifer smirked, "For your first drink of course."
Chloe drove Lucifer and Carlos to the crime scene at a house in a nice neighborhood. Chloe and Lucifer got out of the car first and Lucifer greeted Ella, "Good morning, Miss Lopez." Ella replied, "Hey." Lucifer held out his hand to Chloe, "Shall we?" Chloe took his hand just as Carlos got out of the car. Ella didn't see Carlos as they walked to the house as she said, "You know what? No. I am not even going to ask this time. Because you two are the couple who cried "relationship", and I am not asking. OK, fine. I have to know. Are you guys together or not?" Chloe smiled, "We are." "Definitely together," Lucifer added. Ella sighed, "Well, it's about damn time." She then noticed Carlos standing behind them, "Carlos!" She ran up and hugged Carlos, who said, "Hey, Ella. Good to see you." Ella pulled away, "What brings you back to LA?" Carlos shrugged, "Just spending time with my dad on my birthday." Ella was shocked, "Wait, today is your birthday? How old?" "18," Carlos answered. Ella squealed, then hit Lucifer in the arm, "How dare you not tell me about his birthday. Now I feel bad because I didn't get you anything." Carlos waved her off, "Ella, it's OK. I don't need everything. Hanging out with everyone here is a good present enough for me."
Dan then walked over, "Hey, guys, you're gonna wanna brace yourselves for this one." He handed Chloe a file, "Brace ourselves? Why? This seems pretty straightforward." Ella agreed, "Yeah. Vic is Arthur Sterling, the homeowner, gunshot wound to the chest." Carlos read off of Chloe's shoulder, "Safe was broken into, empty, seems like a simple robbery gone wrong. And it says the murder weapon is a pearl-handled .38 stolen from the safe." Dan was startled to see Carlos, but said, "It's not the murder. It's the murderer." Chloe was confused, "It says we already have a full confession from a perp who was on the scene." Lucifer asked, "Daniel, are you overthinking this? Careful, it could ruin your life." Dan sighed, "Just follow me."
He led everyone into the house and they saw the victim lying on the floor. Dan leaned in and whispered to Carlos, "So you're back from Auradon, huh? Safe travels?" Carlos nodded, "Yeah. As you know." Lucifer looked over and saw Linda sitting in a chair nearby. Chloe and Carlos saw this too and they walked over to her. Linda said, "I did it. I killed him." Lucifer turned to Dan, "Daniel, you could have warned us." Chloe asked, "Linda, you killed that man?" "I said I did, didn't I?" Linda replied. "OK, why?" Chloe asked. Linda replied, "I think the more important question is, why is it so hard to take me at my word? Trust issues usually stem from a problematic relationship with a parental figure. Mother, perhaps?" "She's lying," Carlos said. Lucifer agreed, "Yes, son, you do seem to know who's lying and who's telling the truth. So Detective, don't be fooled by her sneaky therapist ways. She's trying to trick you into overanalyzing your emotions. And before you know it, you'll be second guessing every decision. I say we just do it." "Do what?" Chloe asked. "This," Lucifer answered as he looked straight into Linda's eyes. "Doctor, what is it you desire?" Linda answered, "I wanna protect my child." Lucifer was confused, as was everyone else. Chloe said, "Linda, if someone's trying to hurt Charlie, we can help you. But how is getting arrested for murder gonna protect him?" Linda stood up, "I think our time is up for today." She held out her hands and Chloe sighed, "OK, well, you've given me no choice. Dr. Linda Martin, you are under arrest for murder." She handcuffed Linda as Carlos whispered to Lucifer, "We need to talk to her privately without all these people around. I can persuade her to tell us the truth." Lucifer nodded in agreement.
They took Linda back to LAPD where Maze was waiting, "What the hell is going on here? Please tell me you don't actually believe Linda killed somebody." "I know she's lying," Carlos said. Maze looked at Carlos, "Oh, hey, Carlos. Back in town?" Carlos nodded, "Yeah, for my birthday." Maze groaned, "Forgot to get you a gift. I'll work on that. Anyway, did you command her to tell the truth yet?" Carlos shook his head, "Not yet. I wanted to get her back here first and do it where no one else can see what I can do." Linda looked over at Carlos, "I killed that man. I'm serious." "OK," Carlos said. "What's the guy's name?" Linda said, "It was….somebody. Impulse crime." "My kind of crime," Lucifer commented. "All the best decisions are made in the heat of the moment. Hypothetically, of course." "And how did you kill this person?" Maze asked. "Really good," Linda answered. "All the way dead." "You're right, kid," Maze said. "She's lying." "Told ya," Carlos said to Linda. Chloe agreed, "The gun registered to her is a 9mm, ballistics says the murder weapon is a .38." Lucifer added, "Not to mention, it's the doctor." Chloe sighed, "We just don't know why she's lying." "I don't either," Maze said. "I was talking to her last night and…." Maze realized why Linda was lying, Carlos noticed Maze's face.
Maze glared at Linda, "Linda…" "Zip it, Maze," Linda interrupted. Maze tried to talk, but Linda kept interrupting. Carlos had enough and commanded, "Aunt Linda, stop talking." Linda's mouth closed shut as Maze said, "Thanks, kid. Now, Linda, if you don't tell them, then I bet you Carlos will get it out of you. Right?" Carlos smirked as his eyes flashed red.
Maze walked away as Lucifer, Chloe, and Carlos led Linda to the conference room. Carlos stared into Linda's eyes, "Now, Aunt Linda, you are going to tell us what exactly you're hiding from us." Linda then told them about having a daughter that she abandoned years ago and that she's been stalking her. Lucifer was shocked, "Well, quite the secret you've been keeping from us." "A biological daughter who doesn't know you exist?" Chloe asked. Linda sighed, "Adriana." "Pretty name," Carlos commented. "And you've been stalking her," Chloe commented. Linda replied, "More like keeping an eye on her. From a distance." "Secretly," Lucifer said. Linda nodded, "Of course, secretly. A little harmless stalking never killed anyone. Just ask Carlos here. He stalked you, Lucifer, before introducing himself." Carlos sighed, "OK, one, I did that because I have trust issues, two, I had a magical mirror so that I can find him so that I could introduce myself. And three, I actually have experience at tailing people. VK, remember?" Lucifer nodded, "I agree. Carlos stalked me to the point of waiting for a moment to meet me face to face. It was totally worth it. And he's experienced. While you, doctor, are not, and it seems that you've been doing this for much longer."
Linda sighed, "After Maze tracked her down, I told myself to be patient. Wait for her to find me. But I couldn't help it. I had to see her." "So you just did it," Lucifer commented. "One can definitely understand that." Linda nodded, "Yes, and good thing I did. Even from a distance I could tell she was mixed up in something bad. Dangerous, even." "Is that why you bought the gun?" Chloe asked. Linda shook her head, "No, I bought that after I was fried by a Goddess and demons almost took my baby. But it is why I started carrying it with me." Carlos sighed, "Aunt Linda, tell us what happened last night." Linda sighed, "OK, so I was tailing Adriana's car when suddenly she started driving like a crazy person. I knew something was wrong. So when she went inside the house, I followed her in, and that's when I saw the body." "Did you see anyone else?" Chloe asked. Linda shook her head. Chloe sighed, "OK, Linda, I hate to say it, but it looks like…" Linda interrupted, "Yeah, I know what it looks like. That's why I turned myself in. I know Adriana didn't do this. She couldn't have." "Why not?" Chloe asked. Linda replied, "Because. So I'm buying her time to get away while the cops find the actual killer." "Sounds like somebody's in denial," Lucifer commented. "But if that's what your gut's telling you, I'm right with you, Doctor." "Anyhow," Chloe said. "We're gonna have to bring her in." Linda sighed, "Well, then I hope by now she's far away from here."
Carlos pulled out his mirror and said, "Mirror, mirror in my hand, where does Adriana stand?" The mirror showed him Adriana standing in LAPD talking to an officer. Carlos turned around and said, "She's here." Linda dropped below the table and said, "She doesn't know about me, and she can't find out. Not like this." "How would she even know who you are?" Lucifer asked. "I met her once," Linda said. "At an open house. It's a long story, just promise me you won't tell her. And Carlos, please don't command me to tell her." Carlos sighed, "Fine, Aunt Linda. But on the condition that you will tell her one day." Linda nodded.
Chloe went to the interrogation room to interview Adriana and she confessed, "I did it. I killed him." "Why?" Chloe asked. "I'm a realtor," Adriana replied. "I just sold Mr. Sterling that house. I knew he was going to be out of town. And I knew the combination to his safe. God, it was just supposed to be a simple robbery. Nobody was supposed to get hurt. But Mr. Sterling came home before he was supposed to and he caught me red handed. So I shot him." "Do you have the murder weapon or any of the stolen items?" Chloe asked. Adriana shook her head, "No. I got rid of everything right away. I wasn't going to confess. But the guilt was too much. That's all I have to say." Chloe sighed, "OK, well, we're gonna need a written statement."
Lucifer, Carlos, and Linda were standing behind the two way mirror and Linda said, "She didn't do it. I don't know why she's saying this. Something feels wrong." "I agree," Carlos said. "She's not telling the entire truth. Yes, she's lying, but there's parts of her statement that are true. It's hard to tell." Lucifer hummed, "Speaking of things that feel wrong, but the exact opposite, the detective and I are together, and everything feels right. Neither of us holding anything back, no unidentified feelings of unease." Linda was confused, "What?" "Any thoughts?" Lucifer asked. "You know, on how splendid that is?" Carlos groaned, "Dad, now is not the time for this."
Chloe came in and Linda said, "You know she's lying, right?" Chloe sighed, "I don't know anything yet. You said yourself she was the only one you saw at the house, and we have no other leads." Linda remembered, "The scary guy. He's the reason I thought Adriana was mixed up in something dangerous in the first place. The other day, I saw her arguing with this big, intense, scary guy." Lucifer hummed, "Well, there you have it. First name Scary, last name Guy. Let's go pick him up, Detective." Linda added, "I memorized his license plate, in case something bad happened. And it has." Chloe sighed, "OK, we can put a BOLO out, but until then, Adriana's gonna have to stay here." Linda continued, "Once we find him, you'll see. Scary guy. Definitely the killer. Carlos, maybe you could track him with your mirror." Carlos sighed, "I could. Give me the license plate number. I can ask the mirror who owns the car and where it is now. Then we can go get him." Lucifer stopped, "Not so fast, Carlos. Just get the info and give it to Maze. She is a bounty hunter. Besides, we need to make a quick trip to have your first adult drink."
Maze was given the details about the crazy man, Clive, and tracked him down to his house in LA. Maze drove her motorcycle up to his place and said, "All right. Let's see what you got, Clive." She got off and went inside the house. She looked around and didn't see Clive. A gunshot went off and Maze was hit. But she wasn't bleeding. She looked down, "A beanbag round?" She looked up and saw a person in black with a mask covering their head standing there with the gun. "You're not Clive," Maze said. She stood up and walked over to the person, who pulled out a taser. They started fighting each other, but Maze was clearly better and she ended up kicking the person through the glass door of the kitchen. Maze walked over and pulled the person up and pulled off the mask to reveal Eve.
Maze was shocked, "Eve." Eve smirked, "Maze. Funny seeing you here." Maze released her and got her a frozen bag of peas from the fridge and Eve put it on her face. Maze sighed, "Well, that's what you get for bringing a beanbag to a demon fight. The hell were you thinking?" Eve chuckled, "That I'd impress you with my ninja skills. I didn't, did I?" "What are you doing here, Eve?" Maze asked. Eve explained, "You know how I left to go find myself? Well, I tried a bunch of stuff and nothing quite clicked, so I thought back to when I was happiest. Do you remember that time we went after that guy on that case together?" "Vaguely," Maze said bluntly. Eve sighed, "OK, I guess for you it was just another day at the office, but for me, it was different, and challenging, and scary. In a good way. Anyway, I realized what I had to do to be happy, you know. It was really quite clear. I don't know why it took me so long to realize it, but I had to become a bounty hunter." Maze said, "OK. Good luck with that."
Maze stood up and started to walk away when Eve shouted, "Wait! Aren't you going after that Clive guy too? We could go after him together." "I work alone," Maze said. "Please!" Eve begged. "I could learn so much from you." Maze turned and said sarcastically, "Oh, good. You caught me on my mentoring streak." Eve then said, "Seventy-thirty split! Eighty-twenty?" Maze sighed and then said, "Deal." Eve squealed loudly then cleared her throat, "So I already checked the place, you know, no real clues as to where he could be, but check this out. It's a Hollingshead. His paintings of for hundreds of thousands." "Huh," Maze said. "What's an expensive piece of art doing in a crappy house in Van Nuys?" Eve replied, "Exactly what I'm wondering, Teach." Maze groaned, "Don't call me that." Maze turned and walked out, Eve following her.
Back at LAPD, a man came in asking to speak to Adriana. Chloe heard this and went up to the man, "Excuse me, hi. I'm the detective on the case. Can I help you?" The man replied, "Oh, God, yes. I'm Adriana's boyfriend. Owen. She didn't do it, Detective." "Really?" Chloe asked. "Yes, I've been hearing that a lot lately. What? You gonna confess too?" Owen was confused, "What?" Chloe sighed, "Never mind. Uh, do you have actual proof that she's innocent?" Owen shook his head, "No, I don't. But I think I know who might have done it." "Really?" Chloe replied. "Go ahead." Owen explained, "Adriana was having money trouble. Did she tell you?" Chloe shook her head, "Uh, no. She didn't tell us anything, actually." Owen sighed, "I think she's afraid. She took a bad loan. She got mixed up with some sketchy people. I overheard her fighting on the phone with one of them earlier." Chloe asked, "DO you know, was it a guy named Clive Winter?" Owen shook his head, "No, no, it was a woman. Jamie." Chloe nodded in understanding.
Meanwhile, Lucifer and Carlos flew over to England and Lucifer took Carlos to a pub. Lucifer charmed his way with the owners and he got himself and Carlos a pint of beer. Lucifer held up his glass and said, "Cheers, birthday boy." Carlos clanked his glass and took a sip of the beer, then coughed, "Wow, OK. That's an acquired taste." Lucifer smirked, "Don't worry. There are plenty of other drinks for you to try if you don't like beer. It's personally not one of my favorites. So, what would you rather try?" Carlos shrugged, "I don't know. Maybe not beer though. But I did try it." Lucifer smirked, "OK then. I'll pay the tab and we can go elsewhere."
They went to Mexico, Russia, and finally the Caribbean where Lucifer and Carlos were laying out by the beach drinking a glass of whiskey. Carlos pulled out the potion Mal gave him and drank a couple drops and explained, "You may not feel any of this, but I'm still half-human, remember? I don't want to end up back home drunk. Jane would not be happy about that. She's been planning this surprise for me and I don't want to ruin it." Lucifer smiled, "I understand. So, how's life in Auradon going for you?" Carlos answered, "Good. Just finished my winter finals last week. I've applied to many colleges and got in some. Haven't decided where to go yet. I want to go to the same school as Jane. She's going to be studying magic as that opened up after the 20+ year ban on it. I still want to become a vet. We've been discussing the future a lot and…." Carlos then went quiet and Lucifer asked, "Carlos, what is it?" Carlos looked over, "Dad, will you be upset if I choose to live in Auradon instead of here?" Lucifer sighed, "Carlos, I know that you want to spend time with me to make up for lost time, which I appreciate. But you need to live your own life too. You are now technically an adult. I still want to spend as much time with you as we can, but you also need to think about yourself. Do you want to marry Jane in the future?" Carlos smiled, "Ya, I do." Lucifer continued, "Then that is your future. You can still visit as often as you can, but your main focus shouldn't be me. Balance is the key. But just go with your gut on what you want. OK?" Carlos nodded, "OK, Dad." Lucifer leaned back in his car and thought, "Yeah, maybe I am good at going with my gut more. Totally worthy."
Over at Lux, Amenadiel was talking with some priests, "OK, well, that gives me enough to work with. Thank you so much, gentlemen. Drinks on the house." Amenadiel stood up and said to the bartender, "Table seven, on me." He walked over to where Dan was sitting, who asked, "So what was that all about?" Amenadiel replied, "Uh, just doing some research." "On what?" Dan asked. 'Unflattering headgear?" Amenadiel sighed, "You don't wanna know, trust me. It's a lot to take in." Dan replied, "Bro, I've had my mind blown, twice, figuratively and literally, so pretty sure I can handle it." Amenadiel revealed, "I think I'm gonna because God." Dan was shocked, "What?" Amenadiel explained, "Well, my father, he's retiring, and it appears that I'm the obvious successor. So that was a little celestial homework. A focus group, if you will. Asking people what they would like to see in a god. But enough about me, Dan. How are you doing, buddy? Have you recovered from Lucifer's prank and the trip to Auradon yet?" Dan sighed, "Yeah, yeah, I'm good. I'm having a little trouble focusing on….I'm sorry. Freaking God? You're suddenly gonna become the father of, like, the whole world?" Amenadiel nodded, "It's a little intimidating, honestly." Dan agreed, "Sure, I'm sure, bro. Talk about a promotion. I couldn't even handle lieutenant. I'm more of a "boots on the ground" type. I like the nitty gritty, day to day stuff. But you're a big picture guy. You're perfect for this. The sky's the limit, except not. Hey, congratulations, man. I'm happy for you." "Thanks," Amenadiel said as they clinked glasses.
Later, Chloe took Lucifer, Carlos (after they returned from their quick journey around the world), and Linda to where Chloe tracked the origin of the painting, "All right, so, the painting Maze saw at Clive's house traces back to this gallery. The owner's name is…." Linda interrupted, "Jamie. Is it Jamie? Say it's Jamie." Lucifer was confused, "Right, and we're in a tizzy, why?" Linda answered, "That's who the boyfriend said Adriana fought with on the phone. And she's connected with the guy I saw threatening my daughter? Shady. Let's get her to 'fess up. We have Carlos here, he can make her confess." Carlos sighed, "Aunt Linda." Chloe looked back at Linda and gave her a look. Linda said, "You said I could ride along because my knowledge of the case could come in handy." Carlos sighed, "To be fair, Aunt Linda, you did say you'd tail us if we didn't bring you." Linda looked at Carlos, "But they still brought you, and how are you not drunk after all the places Lucifer took you?" Carlos smirked, "Magic." Chloe sighed, "I do thin your privileged intel is valuable to the case, Linda, but you can't be there when we interview a suspect." "But you bring Carlos," Linda argued. Lucifer turned to Linda, "Carlos is a special case." Linda groaned, "OK, fine. I'll stay right here, then." Chloe then said, "Oh. Lucifer, Carlos, why don't you stay here with Linda? Keep her company. Tell her about your travels today." Lucifer smiled, "Of course. Whatever you need, honey." Carlos was about to argue, but Lucifer gave him a look so Carlos sank back into his seat.
Chloe got out of the car and Linda looked out the window, following Chloe with her eyes. Lucifer then asked, "Did you notice the words of endearment between the detective and me? As I mentioned previously, we're together. "Together" together. Completely committed, no more will they won't they shenanigans. And since you insist on asking, it's going swimmingly." Carlos rolled his eyes and Linda said, "I know what you're doing, and it's not gonna work." "What am I doing?" Lucifer asked. Linda answered, "Trying to get me to ask about your relationship so we can discuss whatever emotional reservations you're having. But in case you haven't noticed, I'm a little preoccupied with something else." Carlos added, "Even I could tell that's what you were doing, Dad." Lucifer said, "Emotional reservations, why would I have any? Actually, no. Don't answer that. The last thing I need is your professional opinion. In fact, I've realized that therapy has been a complete waste of my time." Carlos muttered, "Don't believe it." Linda looked back outside and noticed something, "Look, that's the exact same van I saw at one of the houses Adriana sold." Lucifer and Carlos looked and saw a flower van and two men unloading art out of it. "Absurd," Lucifer commented. "What kind of art is transported in a flower van?" "The stolen kind, perhaps," Carlos suggested. Linda nodded in agreement and tried to get out of the car, but Lucifer said, "No, no, no, the Detective told us to wait for her here. I'll have Carlos command you to if you don't listen." Linda retorted, "What happened to Mr. I follow my gut?" "Oh, snap!" Carlos commented. "She's got you there, Dad." Lucifer huffed, "Therapists. Always using your own words against you. Fine. But we are following my impulsive lead." Linda nodded in agreement and the trio got out of the car.
Chloe walked into the gallery and asked a woman, "Jamie Evington? Are you the owner? Detective Decker. Can I ask you a few questions?" "What about?" Jamie asked back. "Do you know Adriana Nassar?" Chloe asked. "I don't," Jamie answered. Chloe asked, "Well, didn't she sell your Malibu home?" Jamie chuckled, "Oh, that Adriana. I barely interacted with her." Chloe asked, "And what about Clive Winter? Does that name ring a bell?" "No," Jamie answered. "Sorry." Chloe said, "That's weird, because he has a painting from your gallery in his house." "A lot of people have Hollingsheads," Jame retorted. "I didn't say it was a Hollingshead," Chloe said. "It's most of my business," Jamie retorted. "I just assumed. Now, if you will excuse me, I have clients to tend to." Jamie walked over to a couple that walked in, Lucifer and Linda. Chloe sighed but her phone went off and saw it was a text from Carlos to come outside. Chloe left the gallery as Linda said to Lucifer, "Really, darling, I can pick anything?" Lucifer replied, "Oh, absolutely darling. Van Gogh ahead."
Chloe walked outside and Carlos was standing nearby. Chloe walked over, "Carlos, what is going on? I told you guys to stay in the car." Carlos shrugged, "Linda convinced my dad to do a sting, I guess." Chloe sighed, "Fine. Since I couldn't get anything out of Jamie anyway. Can we spy on them?" Carlos smirked as he pulled out the mirror, "That's what I'm here for."
Lucifer and Linda were looking at a painting and Lucifer said, 'Yes! That would look exquisite next to your vanity, sweetie." Linda replied, "Oh, the colors are so colorful." Jamie appeared next to them, "Good eye. The artist chose a vibrant palette to express the complexity of the couple's emotion." Lucifer replied, "Or maybe it's not complex at all. I beet there's nothing but bliss between these two. No matter how much my dear Linda insists on overanalyzing." Linda retorted, "The only thing I'm getting is that she's worried about her daughter, and that he keeps making everything about himself." Jamie said, "What a bold and oddly specific interpretation. That is what I love about art. It is so subjective. I will give you a few to ponder over it."
Jamie walked away and Linda whispered, "What are we doing? Clearly Jamie is running an art theft operation." Lucifer whispered back, "Doesn't mean she killed Sterling." "She didn't," Linda replied. "Clive did. He's her muscle. Don't you see? I mean, he and Jamie must have strong armed Adriana into their crime scheme, using her to gain access into high end houses with valuable art." "Perhaps," Lucifer said. "But without any proof, we don't have any leverage, so let's just leave it to the professionals, shall we?" Jamie came back, "So? Is the lovely couple interested in the lovely couple?" Lucifer chuckled, "Actually, uh, we were wondering if you had something a tad more exclusive? We understand you have a talent for acquiring art that is otherwise engaged." Jamie replied, "I see. And, uh, what is it that you are sin the market for?" Lucifer said, "Matisse." But Linda said, "Monet." Lucifer said, "Well, either is fine. We collect impressionists that start with the letter M, don't we? As long as they're unattainable, elusive, prohibitive, beyond reach." Jamie replied, "I usually only work with direct referrals." Lucifer smirked, "Well, I can assure you we are very reliable clients. I always like to put my Monet where my mouth is." He pulled out a wad of cash from his jacket and showed it to Jamie. Lucifer added, "Actually, you know what? I think we'll take the happy couple too." James said, "OK, then. Victor at the front desk will take care of the details for this one, and I'll be in touch about the impressionists." "Lovely," Lucifer commented as Jamie walked away.
Lucifer and Linda came out of the gallery with the painting and Lucifer walked straight over to Chloe, "For you, Detective. Call it an impulse buy." Chloe smiled, "Thank you. Never got a present from a sting before." "You're very welcome," Lucifer said as he kissed Chloe. Carlos cleared his throat and Lucifer pulled back, "Right. Carlos, did you get everything?" Carlos nodded, "Yep." Linda asked, "Sting? How was that a sting? We got diddly squat. Why aren't you mad that we went rogue, Chloe?" "Because we didn't," Lucifer said. Linda was confused as Carlos explained, "When you two went inside, I texted Chloe and she came out and I told her what you two were planning. Chloe and I watched the whole thing from my mirror." "So we put on a lovely show for them," Lucifer said. "I charmed Jamie, you babbled mostly." Linda said, "OK, then you know about the fake van and the stolen canvas, Chloe?" Linda asked. Chloe nodded, "Yep, Carlos filled me in what I had a feeling on. Because that feeling was based on your knowledge of the case and it came in handy." "Then you agree," Linda said. "Clive's the killer, and my daughter is innocent." Chloe sighed, "Yes, except why would Adriana take the fall for Clive if she wasn't involved somehow?" Linda answered, "Because Ice Queen Jamie must have been threatening her. Didn't you see how intimidating she is? Bet she could crack a nut with a Kegel. That's why I needed Lucifer to crack her."
Lucifer sighed, "Doctor, what did I tell you about leaving it to the pros? The plan is already in motion. Right, Detective, Carlos?" Chloe nodded, "Yes, I had Carlos set up a phone tap after I got the warrant after you two baited her." Carlos added, "Now all we need to do is wait for Jamie to call Clive so she can task him with the search of the Monet. Then his cell will be pinged, he will be brought in with some leverage." Lucifer and Chloe were looking at each other as Lucifer said, "If Adriana won't tell us what's going on…" "Maybe Clive will," Chloe finished. They kissed and chuckled, Carlos rolling his eyes. Lucifer then said, "See, Doctor? Perfect match." Linda sighed, but Carlos stepped forward and said, "Don't worry, Aunt Linda. We'll get to the bottom of this and prove Adriana's innocence." Linda nodded.
Over at Linda's house, Ella was babysitting Charlie. She just put him to sleep and walked out of his room. Charlie had spit up on her a little bit and Ella walked to the kitchen to clean herself up. Amenadiel walked in the door, "Hey. Everything go OK?" Ella replied, "Oh, yeah. Totes. It was so much fun. And you know I absolutely adore Charlie, but, uh, I will say, I don't know how you guys do this all day, every day, like, every day." Amenadiel nodded, "Yeah. It gets easier with practice. And, you know, I actually really enjoy the nitty-gritty. The day to day, the magical stuff. I don't know, it happens in the small moments, you know? Well, that was cheesy. I'm sorry." Ella shook her head, "No, you know what? I totally get it. God is in the details."
Ella started to walk out when Amenadiel said, "Speaking of God, can I ask you something?" "Yeah," Ella replied. Amenadiel asked, "Is there anything that you would change about him, you know, if you could?" "Change?" Ella replied. "About God? No. I mean, that's the whole point of faith. Acceptance." Amenadiel said, "Right, but just for argument's sake. Imagine if God was standing right here in front of you, asking you, "How can I do a better job?" There's gotta be something you would say." Ella shook her head, "No. I mean, God is always there for me. Always. He loves me. Probably more than anyone should, really." Amenadiel asked, "What does that mean?" Ella sighed, "I have a lot of darkness. And the big guy knows and he doesn't care. He's all good. Which is why I don't deserve him." Amenadiel replied, "I disagree, Ella. I do. You see, I think if God was standing right here, right now, in front of you, that he would tell you to take some of that faith that you have in him and put it in yourself." Ella was stunned, "That's…Thank you for saying that, Amenadiel. I'm gonna try." They hugged it out and Ella left.
Over at LAPD, Lucifer and Carlos were sitting in the conference room. Carlos was typing away on a computer and said, "OK, Jamie has contacted Clive and I tracked his phone to this warehouse. That's where all the stolen art must be. I sent a message to Maze so she can go there and get Clive." Lucifer sighed, "Yes, so we can finish this case in time for your surprise back in Auradon." Chloe walked in and said, "So, Maze texted me saying that she's got the info you sent her, Carlos, and that she and Eve are heading to the warehouse right now." Lucifer and Carlos were shocked and Lucifer asked, "Eve is here? In LA?" Chloe nodded, "Yeah, apparently she's trying her hand at bounty hunting and Maze is teaching her." Carlos paled and Lucifer noticed, "Carlos, what's wrong?" Carlos mumbled, "Eve. I haven't seen her since…." Chloe ran over and rubbed circles on Carlos' back and said, "Just take some deep breaths, Carlos. It's OK." Lucifer asked, "Carlos, what happened the last time you saw Eve?" Carlos answered, "I was at a church, being held hostage by those demons. I was dragged in and I saw Eve standing there, talking to Dromos. I was gagged so I couldn't talk. She saw one of the demons with my ring and Eve took it and said, "Dromos, you can have the brat. I don't care. But leave Lucifer to me. I will keep him distracted while you take this child to be your new king." She then put it on to illusion herself as you, Chloe, and walked away, leaving me there with those demons. She wanted me out of the way so badly that she didn't care that I was going to my death."
Some tears leaked out of Carlos' eyes as Chloe soothed him. Lucifer sighed, "I can't imagine how that must have felt, Carlos. But you should know that yes, Eve did confront me at Lux disguised as the Detective, but your dog smelled magic on her and I saw your ring on her finger. Chloe knocked her out, but she came to the place you were held in and wanted forgiveness and wanted to help save you. She took the dagger Dromos was going to use on you away. She left LA because she wanted to think about her choices and find what she wanted in life. I think she regrets what she did, Carlos. You don't have to forgive her if that's what you want. But don't keep it bottled inside. Just go with your gut. OK?" Carlos nodded and wiped his tears, "Sorry, just painful memories." Lucifer pulled Carlos into a hug and said, "It's OK, son. Moving past pain takes time. Just think about what I said, OK?"
"Who's making the birthday boy cry?" The trio turned to see Mal standing there. Carlos smiled and said, "Mal." He ran over and the two friends hugged. Chloe was confused so Lucifer said, "Oh, right, you two haven't met. Detective, this is one of Carlos' friends, Mal, or rather Queen Mal since she married the King last summer." Mal pulled away and walked over to Chloe, "It's nice to finally meet you, Chloe. Carlos has told me a lot about you." Chloe shook her hand, "It's nice to meet you. Purple hair and all." Mal chuckled, "Yeah, I didn't bother with an illusion spell like Carlos here as I'm only stopping by for a couple minutes. Jane wanted me to check in with you. You haven't texted her since earlier this morning and she was getting worried." Carlos blushed, "Sorry about that. Dad took me on a drinking trip around the world and I've been helping with this case…." Mal held up her hand, "It's OK. I will just tell Jane that things came up but not to worry. Lucifer, just make sure you get him back to Auradon at the time Jane told you. OK?" Lucifer nodded, "You have my word." Mal turned to Carlos, "So what was with the tears?" Carlos muttered, "Bad memories from the demon incident." Lucifer explained, "My ex, Eve, is back in town and the last time Carlos saw her…." Mal held up her hand, "OK, I understand. Carlos explained what happened. Carlos, don't worry about her. But maybe think about talking to her at some point. If it sounds like she changed, then maybe forgiving her might do you some good." Carlos nodded, "I'll think about it." Mal smirked, "Just remember. We're rotten." Carlos smirked, "To the core." Chloe was confused but Lucifer whispered, "It's their motto." Mal smiled then magically disappeared back to Auradon. Carlos said, "OK. Hopefully we'll hear some news from Maze."
Meanwhile, Maze and Eve arrived near the warehouse and hid on top of a nearby building. Eve asked, "So, why do we think this Clive' guy's here?" Maze answered, "Well, Carlos traced a call that artsy-fartsy bitch made to him. His cell number pinged hear this shady warehouse that I'm very familiar with. Call it an educated guess." Eve tensed a little at the mention of Carlos, but shook it off and said, "Right. Smart. Good place to store stolen art. Tell me, why is it you chose this place to stake it out?" Maze answered, "Because we can see him coming without him seeing us." Eve nodded, "Wow. Here you go." She pulled out a flash grenade and Maze asked, "What's this for?" Eve answered, "Oh, it's a flash grenade." Maze shook her head, "We're not gonna need a flash bang. This is a stakeout." Eve took it back, "Smart. Good insight. See, this is exactly why I'm shadowing you. So much to learn."
Maze couldn't take it anymore, "OK, know what? Stop. This whole novice act, OK? I'm not buying it. I saw you fight back there. You know what you're doing. So why are you here, Eve? And not to mention, I saw you tense when I mentioned Carlos." Eve sighed, "All right, look, this whole "finding yourself" business is really freakin' hard, OK? It's not like you turn a corner and, "Whoop, there I am!" I had to really think about when I was happiest." "Yeah," Maze replied. "Bounty hunting. You covered that earlier." Eve continued, "Except I kind of left some stuff out. OK, after I became a bounty hunter, I realized my happiness had nothing to do with the job. I was happy because I was with you. I know. Duh. And I had no idea how to get you back. So I looked you up. I saw you were on this Clive bounty and came up with this wacky plan. I engineered an encounter. I thought maybe it would be romantic. But then, when you took my mask off, you didn't exactly jump in my arms. You looked real mad. Like, real mad. So I panicked, and I, uh, lied. I'm sorry." "Of course I was mad," Maze replied. "You broke my heart." "I did?" Eve asked. "That's awesome. I mean, that's awful. I'm real sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you. But I'm here now. And I wanna be with you. As for Carlos, when I was away, I realized that I was horrible to him. I took time away from him with Lucifer. And I left him with demons who wanted to sacrifice him. I never apologized to him for everything I did. And after being away for months and thinking about it, I know that Carlos deserves an apology from me. I hurt him, too, and I hate myself for what I did to him. Maybe I can ask for forgiveness like I am with you." Before Maze could answer, she saw the door below open, "Someone's here."
They went inside the warehouse and looked around. Maze noticed a crate open, "Hey, check it out, this was opened." Maze opened the crate with a crow bar and Eve pulled out necklaces while Maze pulled out a gun, "Matches the description of the gun stolen from Mr. Sterling's safe. Must be the murder w…" Suddenly Clive ran in and rammed Maze into the nearby wall. Eve charged in, but Clive fought her off and threw her into a crate. Maze got up and the two started fighting each other. Eve got up and crawled to the top of the shelves and jumped onto Clive before he could shoot Maze. Clive pushed Eve back before Maze charged in and knocked Clive to the ground, the gun going off. Maze got up and said to Eve, "Not bad for a newbie." Eve chuckled weakly from the ground, "Thanks, Teach." Maze noticed something was wrong and ran over to her, "Oh, my God. Eve, you're shot. Hey, look at me." Maze saw movement behind her and saw Clive standing back up. Maze grabbed the flash grenade off of Eve and threw it at Clive, blinding him. Maze then charged him and beat him to a pulp. After knocking Clive out, Maze ran back over to Eve and saw that she was losing consciousness so picked her up and ran out of the warehouse to get her to the hospital and called LAPD for backup.
At LAPD, Carlos sat with Linda while Lucifer was arguing with Chloe. Carlos looked over at Linda, "It's going to be OK, Aunt Linda." Linda nodded, "I hope so. And I'm sorry that this is all happening on your birthday." Carlos shrugged, "It's fine. I've experienced crazier things, trust me." Lucifer then walked over and Linda asked, "Is Eve OK?" They all got the word on what happened. Lucifer sighed, "Um, I hope so. She's in surgery at the moment." "Told you Clive was a scary guy," Linda replied. Lucifer added, "And Jamie's muscle in the burglary scheme. Right on both counts." Linda shrugged, "Maybe I should become a police consultant like you and Carlos. So are they letting Adriana go now?" Lucifer sighed, "Well, it seems that you were right about something else. Adriana was part of the scheme. She was the one who told Jamie and Clive about the houses that were ripe for the robbing." "Yeah," Linda replied. "Because they were forcing her to, like I said. So who's our new suspect? There is a new suspect, right?" Lucifer revealed, "Maze found the murder weapon at he warehouse with the stolen items. It had Adriana's prints on it." Linda didn't believe it, "Come on, no. No, it can't be." "Why not?" Lucifer asked. "And please don't say because." "Because!" Linda shouted. "Because if it is, I'm to blame. It's mu fault she's broken." Linda sat back down and Carlos held onto her hand.
Lucifer sighed, "Anyway. Enough with the bad news. On to what really matters. The Detective and I just had…" "A spat!" Linda shouted. "A spat, I know! I saw. I know, and now you want me to weigh in on your relationship. That's all this has been from the start, isn't it? You never really cared about helping me. You just needed a ride along therapist. For once, I needed you to care about someone other than yourself, to care about me! In fact, you aren't even caring about your son at the moment, and it's his birthday. You know what? Lucifer, you're right. Therapy has failed. I've failed. You're just as selfish and self-absorbed as you…." "Enough!" Carlos shouted, Linda obeying Carlos' command. "How dare you sit there and accuse my father about not caring about other people and not himself. Do you not remember that he went back to Hell to protect Chloe, Charlie, and me? He has changed, Aunt Linda, I've seen it. And yes he is taking time away from me on my birthday, but I agreed to it. I want to help you like he wants to help you. So just sit down and let my father say what he was about to say before you went on your rant!" Lucifer stood up and pulled Carlos away and pointed to Linda outside the room, where Adriana was being led to the interrogation room, "Like I was saying, The Detective and I just had a chat, and we decided to talk to Adriana again." "But all the evidence points to her," Linda commented. "You think she's guilty." "But you don't," Lucifer argued. "My self-centeredness aside, I am trying to help. We all are. Like Carlos said. And we're not giving up. So, shall we see what your daughter has to say?"
Lucifer and Chloe went into the interrogation room and Carlos went with them this time. Adriana was confused as to why a kid was in the room with them. But Adriana wouldn't tell them anything, "Nothing. I have nothing to say. I wrote down everything I know." Carlos felt that she was lying as Chloe replied, "Well, we looked at your statement and did some legwork. There are some pieces missing that we would like you to fill in." Adriana said, "Just close the investigation already. I did it. That's all I'm gonna say." "She's hiding something," Carlos mentioned. Lucifer nodded in agreement, "That you are. Tell me, Adriana. What is it you desire?" Adriana looked into Lucifer's eyes and said, "I want to protect my mother." Lucifer was stunned and sat back in his chair and looked back at the two way mirror, where Linda was standing behind.
Adriana then stopped talking and Carlos stepped forward, "Adriana, please, just tell us why you want to protect your mother." Adriana revealed, "My mother's sick. She has been for a while. The treatment is expensive." "Is that why you're having money troubles?" Chloe asked. "Owen told us that." Adriana nodded, "Yeah. I mortgaged my condo, depleted my savings. I had nothing left." "Then you met Miss Thomas Crown Affair," Lucifer commented. Chloe added, "Jamie approached you, didn't she?" Adriana nodded, "She said I'd make fast cash. She promised no one would get hurt." Chloe said, "She convinced you to give up your clients' alarm codes, where the valuables were, and when they wouldn't be home?" "And Clive did the dirty work?" Lucifer added. Adriana sighed, "I tried to back out. I did." "But they threatened you?" Chloe guessed. Adriana nodded, "They said they'd kill my mom. I felt trapped. I was looking for a way out when I suddenly heard about a last minute change in Mr. Sterling's travel plans. He was coming home early, on the night that Clive was supposed to rob his place. I panicked." "You tried to warn Clive?" Chloe asked. "IS that why you texted him?" Adriana shook her head, "Texted him? No, I called him, and he wasn't picking up, so I rushed over to the house and it was too late. Clive must have been surprised by Mr. Sterling and killed him." Lucifer then revealed, "Except Clive wasn't stripping down Mr. Sterling's house. He was at some strip club on The Strip." Carlos then added, "Records show that he was in Vegas that night." Chloe said, "According to him, you called the sting off early. He said you texted him Friday night." Adriana was confused, "Friday? No, I didn't even hear about Mr. Sterling's change of plans until Saturday. Right before I rushed over to the house. I was at the movies on Friday night. Please, you have to believe me. All I want is to protect my mom. All of this, I did for her." Carlos could tell that Adriana was telling the truth, which made her print being on the gun weird. Linda meanwhile had figured out who did it and left LAPD.
Later, Chloe got off the phone and said, "So Adriana's mom's safe. Did you find Linda?" Lucifer shook his head, "No, it appears she's left. Probably got too emotional for her." Carlos said, "I'll check the mirror and see where she went." Ella then burst out of the lab and Carlos took a few steps away so that he could find Linda without Ella noticing. Ella said, "Control Freak Lopez for the win! So, I myself didn't personally process the murder weapon the first time around, so I said, "Know what? I should take another look," and winner, winner, chicken dinner! The gun was wiped down, you guys. And there was just one Adriana fingerprint on it." "That's fishy," Chloe commented. Ella continued, "And for the double whammy, I also found methyl acrylate on the gun." Lucifer said, "A drug I've never heard of or done. Now that's fishy." Ella shook her head, "Oh, no. It's not a drug. It's a substance found on the sticky side of Scotch tape." Chloe realized, "Someone used the tape to transfer the print to the gun." "So Adriana was framed," Lucifer said. "By Clive?" Carlos came running back, "It wasn't Clive, because when I checked the phone records, and he wasn't lying. Clive did receive a text from Adriana calling off the job. But I don't think Adriana sent it. Someone else had access to her phone while she was at the movies." "The doctor would know," Lucifer commented. "She'd probably know, with all her stalking and whatnot." "And you'd be right," Carlos said. "Because I tracked her, and she's going to that person right now."
Linda found herself outside Owen's apartment and saw him walking out of it. She called out, "Owen." Owen turned around and Linda pulled out her gun and said, "You need to turn yourself in." Owen held up his hands, 'I got no idea who you are and no idea what you're talking about." Linda chuckled, "I'm someone who actually cares about Adriana, not someone who pretends to care while framing her for murder. I saw you step out of the theater. I thought, "Aww, so polite, he doesn't want to text during the movie." Well, polite my ass. You were texting Clive on Adriana's cell, telling him the sting was off, so you could take the spoils for yourself. You killed Mr. Sterling." Owen replied, "Give me the gun before somebody throws you in the loony bin." Linda shook her head, "No, not until you confess. You think I won't shoot, huh? Oh, I get it. I look like a good person. Well, I'm not. I've been a terrible mother. I've done nothing for Adriana her entire life. This is the one thing I can do, so I'm saving her from you. One way or another."
Suddenly Lucifer, Chloe, and Carlos ran up and Carlos shouted, "Aunt Linda. Put down the gun!" Linda did as she was told due to Carlos' persuasion powers, but said, "He can't get away with this. He framed Adriana!" Owen lied, "This woman is nuts." Lucifer said, "Careful, that woman is a doctor, and an excellent one at that." "And she's my aunt," Carlos added. Owen scoffed, "Why would I frame my own girlfriend? I was the one that told you she was innocent, Detective." Chloe replied, "You're also the one who pointed the finger at Jamie, which led us to the warehouse and the murder weapon that you planted, which was smart, but now we have forensic evidence that Adriana's print was transferred to the gun. You're under arrest." Owen tried to run, but Carlos shouted, "Freeze! You're not running away from this." Owen froze and Chloe handcuffed him. Lucifer walked over to Linda and said, "You did it, Doctor. You saved your daughter." Linda hugged Lucifer and Lucifer surprisingly hugged her back. Carlos smiled at the moment.
Owen was taken back to LAPD to be charged with the murder. Linda was standing on the upstairs part looking out when she looked over and saw Adriana being let go. Adriana saw her and walked over, "Hey, you look really familiar. Do I know you?" Linda lied, "No, I don't think so." Adriana asked, "Didn't you come to an open house months ago? I'm a realtor." Linda replied, "Oh. Right. Uh, maybe. If you're wondering what I'm doing here at the police station, I just, um, these are my friends. And, uh, they were helping me with something important." Adriana said, "That's nice. They helped me too. Could have been really bad if they hadn't." "Yeah," Linda replied, then backpedaled. "I mean, that's nice." Adriana said, "Well, I guess I should be going." Linda said before she left, "Hey. I'm glad you're OK." Adriana was confused, but said, "Thanks." Adriana turned and walked away.
Lucifer and Carlos walked up behind Linda and Linda said, "All right, Lucifer, you have my undivided attention. What is it you wanted to talk about?" Lucifer smiled, "The only thing I want to talk about is you. So. Have you told her you're her mom yet?" Linda sighed, "No. I'm being respectful." Lucifer replied, "Well, in the words of a wise woman I know, that sounds an awful lot like avoidance to me." "Boundaries are important," Linda said. "Says the stalker," Lucifer replied. "Dad," Carlos warned. Lucifer chuckled, then asked, "Why didn't you tell her, Doctor?" Linda sighed, "I do think it should be her choice. But if I'm being honest, I guess I'm afraid. Of rejection, I just, not that I have a relationship with her now, I just, I don't know. It doesn't make any sense." "It makes perfect sense," Carlos said. "I was the same way about meeting my dad and telling him that I was his son. Aunt Linda, you want to know her, to be with her, it's everything you've ever wanted, but you can't completely open yourself up because deep down you actually live that you don't deserve her love." Lucifer nodded in agreement while looking down at Chloe and added, "Because she's so perfect, and you're just, well, unworthy." He looked over at Carlos, then back at Linda, making Carlos confused. Linda smiled, "Awfully insightful, you two. Maybe you two should become a therapist." Lucifer chuckled and said, "Well, we have to head out. Carlos has to head back to Auradon for his surprise." "You can join if you want," Carlos offered. Linda shook her head and said, "No. I have to head home and look after Charlie." Linda walked away and Carlos said, "Dad, you can bring Chloe if you want to." Lucifer smiled, "I'll go tell her. Then we can be on our way." "Actually," Carlos said. "Can you two meet me at Lux? There's a stop I want to make before I head home."
Over at the hospital, Eve's surgery had finished and she was recovering in her hospital room. Maze walked in and Eve tried to sit up, but groaned, "Oh, that was a mistake." Maze said, "Well, you're looking less like death." "Ha!" Eve replied. "Thank you." Maze said, "You know, back there when you got shot, I hated that." Eve chuckled, "Yeah, it wasn't great for me either." Maze continued, "I never felt like that before. It was weird. New, and I was…" "Afraid?" Eve guessed. Maze nodded, "Yeah. I guess. I mean, I've felt fear before, but that was a whole other level." "Maze, are you saying what I think you're saying?" Eve asked. Maze sat down on the bed next to Eve, "I wanna be with you too, Eve." Maze leaned in and kissed Eve, and Eve happily reciprocated. Maze pulled away and the two laughed.
Maze said, "There's something I want you to have. OK, it's….call it a family heirloom, if you will. I just got it back from Lucifer." She handed Eve her mother's ring, "I don't do fear, so this should take care of that. It has my mother's immortality in it. So I think it will protect you." "This will make me immortal?" Eve asked. Maze nodded, "Hopefully. I almost lost you again. And I've never been hurt like that before. I guess I have grown a soul. But if this is what a soul feels like, I don't wanna feel it again." Eve sighed, "Sweetie, I don't wanna live forever." Maze was confused, "Why the Hell not?" Eve sighed again, "Because I saw what it did to my son, Cain. You saw it too. Mortality is a gift. It makes you appreciate life. Just like fear made you appreciate me. No, I can't accept this." Maze argued, "No, you have to. You have to. OK? Or I can't do this. I'm trying to protect you." Eve countered, "No, you're trying to protect yourself." "I almost lost you Eve," Maze replied. "I can't lose you again. Don't you understand? I love you." Eve said, "Maze, I love you too, very much. That's why this is so scary. But we have to embrace that." Maze sighed, "I can't." "Yes, you can," Eve argued. "I'm sorry," Maze said. Maze stood up and walked out. Eve sat there on the bed, sad.
She looked up when she heard a knock and was shocked to see Carlos standing there. "Carlos," Eve was surprised. "What are you doing here?" Carlos sighed, "I'm here to see you. I think we need to talk. We never had the chance…..after what happened." Eve nodded and Carlos walked into the room and closed the door. "Take off your ring," Eve said. "I want to see the real you." Carlos nodded and pulled off the chain with his ring on it, his hair illusion spell disappearing and his white hair returning. Eve smiled, "There you are."
Carlos chuckled then walked up to Eve, "Eve, I know that there's bad blood between us." Eve tried to say something, but Carlos said, "Wait, let me finish. Please. You came down to Earth to try and have the connection with my dad that you had thousands of years ago because you thought that's what you wanted. And you saw me as an obstacle to that dream. We've said some things and did some things that weren't great, and you wanted to win my dad over. You nearly succeeded too by almost driving me away for months before I gained enough courage to come back. You see, I wanted a connection with my dad too. He's part of the reason I exist at all and I wished that at least one of my parents cared about me. So I wanted to meet my dad and form a relationship with him, even if he didn't know I existed at first. You saw me as competition and treated me as such. And when I came back into his life and he dumped you, you went down a dark path to try and win my dad back. Heck, you even brought demons to Earth and let them kidnap me and almost sacrifice me to Hell just so you could get what you want. That act still haunts me, Eve. I've had nightmares about the demon incident for a while. I nearly died. Because of your actions." Eve started to cry, "Carlos, I'm sorry…." Carlos held up his hand, "Hold on. I'm not done. Even though I hated you for what you did to me, after a lot of thinking and processing everything, I think I'm ready to say this. I forgive you."
Eve was shocked, "What? You forgive me? After everything I did?" Carlos nodded, "Yeah, surprising as that may be. Because you reminded me of someone from my world. A girl who felt like she had everything she wanted and was on track to becoming queen, when my friend came and fell in love with the king, and the king loved her back. So the girl's dreams disappeared overnight. So she decided to take revenge and try to get her old life back. She stole an evil scepter, put many people into a deep sleep, turned others, including myself, to stone, turned the king into a beast, and nearly took over the world, but my friend beat her. And after she was defeated, she realized that she went down a dark path in order to get what she thought she wanted and it nearly cost her everything. She regretted her actions and she's been working on redeeming herself ever since. And I know you are trying to do the same." Eve cried, "I don't know what to say. I don't deserve your forgiveness. After everything that I did…." "It's OK," Carlos interrupted. "The past is past. Forgive, forget. I think what we need is a fresh start between us. So, hi. I'm Carlos De Vil. Son of Cruella De Vil and Lucifer Morningstar. Nice to meet you." Eve smiled, "Hello, my name is Eve, yes that Eve. Wait, Cruella De Vil? That villain from 101 Dalmatians?" Carlos nodded, "Yeah, in my world, everyone comes from fairy tales/myths/legends. It's a lot, I know." Eve smiled, "I'll be happy to hear all about it."
Carlos then said, "Well, I have to go. I need to head back for my birthday surprise…" "Happy Birthday," Eve said. Carlos smiled, "Thanks. But before I go, I thought I might give you something. For our fresh start." He reached into his jacket and pulled out Mal's potion. Eve recognized it, "The stuff you gave your dad to heal his bullet wound." Carlos nodded, "And I would like to offer a drop to you. To heal yours." Eve nodded and Carlos walked over and Eve held her mouth open and swallowed a drop. Eve said, "Ah, that feels so much better. Thank you." Carlos smirked, "Anytime."
Over at Linda's house, Linda was playing with Charlie when she heard the doorbell ring. She set Charlie in his walker and walked over to the door. She opened it and was surprised to see Adriana standing there, "Hi. Linda, right? The police weren't helping you, were they? You were helping them with my case. I just wanted to say thank you." Linda replied, "It was no big deal. Would you like to come in?" Adriana smiled, "Sure." Linda let her in and Adriana walked in, "Also, there was an anonymous donation made to the clinic where my mom is being treated. A very generous one." Linda said, "Well, that's wonderful news. There's something I've been wanting to tell you." Linda was about to tell the truth, but Adriana beat her to it, "You're my mom. Aren't you?" Linda was shocked, "How did you know?" Adriana chuckled, "When you're adopted, you look at everybody who resembles you even a little bit. Everybody who's in the right age range. And you wonder." Linda realized, "So that day that I went to the open house." Adriana shrugged, "I had my suspicions. You and that other lady acted so weird." Linda sighed, "I wanted to tell you. But I didn't know if you'd want me. I thought I should let you come to me." Adriana replied, "Well, here I am." Linda nodded, "Here you are."
They heard Charlie cooing and Adriana said, "You have a baby?" Linda nodded, "I do. Would you like to meet him?" Adriana smiled, "OK." Linda walked over and picked Charlie up, "This is Charlie." Adriana said, "Hi, Charlie." Linda handed Charlie to her and Adriana took him in her arms and smiled.
Over at Lux, Lucifer and Chloe were waiting in the penthouse when Carlos flew in and landed on the balcony. Lucifer smiled, "So, how did it go?" Carlos smiled back, "It went well. Eve is doing fine. And we're starting our relationship over." "Good," Lucifer said. "So, it's time. Ready to go to your surprise back in Auradon." Chloe added, "Thank you for inviting me, Carlos. Now, is traveling to another dimension difficult?" Carlos chuckled, "No, it isn't. Here, I'll open a portal." Carlos opened a portal and stepped through, Lucifer and Chloe following behind.
They arrived in Auradon, outside Auradon Prep. Chloe looked around, "Wow, I'm in another world. This is awesome, yet weird. Where are we?" Carlos answered, "Outside my school, Auradon Prep." They heard barking and saw Dude running over to them, "You made it on time. Jane was starting to get worried." Carlos chuckled, "Hey, Dude. I'm fine. Just getting back from a day with my dad. And I brought him and Chloe with me here." Dude looked up, "Hello, Lucifer. Hello, Chloe." Chloe chuckled, "Yeah, a talking dog is still weird." Dude smirked, "OK, follow me." Dude ran ahead and Carlos, Lucifer, and Chloe followed.
Dude ran them all the way to the cliffside Carlos and Jane like to hang at and as soon as Carlos was in sight, he heard, "Surprise! Happy Birthday!" All of his Auradon friends were there and they had set up a giant party just for him. Carlos smiled and Jane ran up and kissed Carlos, "Happy Birthday, Carlos. Do you like it?" Carlos nodded, "I do. Thank you. I couldn't ask for a better present." Jane saw Lucifer and Chloe walking up and Jane said, "Oh, Mr. Morningstar, Ms. Decker, welcome to Auradon. Or well back to Auradon for you, Mr. Morningstar." Lucifer chuckled, "Jane, it's OK to cal me Lucifer." Jane chuckled, "OK. Well, enjoy yourselves. I'm going to take the birthday boy for a bit." Jane dragged Carlos away and Chloe said, "So all these kids are fairy tale characters?" Lucifer nodded, "Yes, my dear."
King Ben walked over and said, "Hello again, Lucifer. Thank you for bringing Carlos back on time for his birthday celebration." Lucifer said, "Of course, Your Majesty. Oh, and may I introduce Chloe Decker, my plus one. Chloe, this is Ben, king of Auradon. Mal's husband." Chloe was shocked, "Oh, wow, hi. Your Majesty. Um, do I need to bow?" Ben chuckled, "It's OK. No need. I just wanted to thank you for everything you've done for Carlos while he was visiting his dad in your world." "I second that," Mal walked over and took Ben's arm. "Please, feel free to help yourselves. Everything's on the house tonight." Lucifer smirked, "Oh, I hope so."
Lucifer and Chloe made the rounds and Chloe met all of Carlos' friends, Evie, Jay, Uma, Celia, Dizzy, Harry, Gil, Doug, Lonnie, and so many more. The party had a karaoke battle and Lucifer almost took the crown, but Carlos won. Chloe got along well with Lonnie, who was interested in Chloe's detective stories. Eventually Lucifer and Chloe had to head back to LA, but Lucifer gave Carlos one last present, a picture frame that had a picture of himself, Carlos, Chloe, Amenadiel, Linda, Maze, Trixie, and Charlie in it, along with a copy of Lilith's ring. Lucifer explained, "Don't worry, this isn't the real one. I gave that back to Maze. But I wanted this to go along with the angel feather I gave you along with this picture of your family from LA so that you can have it here." Carlos teared up and hugged his dad, "Thank you. I'll treasure these always." Lucifer pulled out the blue stone and opened a portal back to LA. Lucifer saw Carlos walk back to the party and he thought, "He's a man now. And I couldn't be prouder. But I feel that he may not need me as much anymore. Am I worth his time anymore, like if I'm worthy of the Detective's love?" He and Chloe walked through it.
Once back in LA, Lucifer helped Chloe to the entrance of Lux and bid her goodnight. He then walked into the club and saw Amenadiel sitting at a table. He walked up and said, "That's the kind of God you're gonna be, isn't it? Grave and weary." Amenadiel chuckled, "I guess. But where have you been all day? Treating my nephew well?" Lucifer smirked, "Of course. I took him to my favorite drinking places and he enjoyed his first drink. Then I just came back from his surprise party in Auradon. There wasn't any booze though. Shame. Anyway, back to what I asked." Amenadiel sighed, "It's just…I thought I would bee so eager to take Father's place, you know? But instead, I'm having doubts." Lucifer sighed, "I think I actually understand. You feel unworthy." Amenadiel shook his head, "Uh, no. That's not it. I definitely feel worthy. Who else would be? Nah, it's just, I spent so much time looking down on humanity. And now, Lucy, I love living amongst them. I finally learned how to connect. Built a life here. Made friends. A family. If I'm being honest, I don't want any of that to change." Lucifer was confused, "So what, you're thinking of backing out?" Amenadiel shook his head, "No. That would be selfish, Lucy. I must embrace my celestial duty." Lucifer argued, "You should do what makes you happy." Amenadiel sighed, "How I wish it were that simple." Lucifer realized, "Maybe it can be. That is, if someone else were willing to take the responsibility. Someone worthy." "Who?" Amenadiel asked. Lucifer chuckled, "Me, of course! This is exactly what I need to prove myself." Amenadiel was confused, "What?" Lucifer replied, "You heard me, brother. I've just decided. I'm going to be God."
