It was a week after Carlos' birthday. Carlos had started on his last semester of senior year. It was the weekend and Lucifer called Carlos to tell him that he had exciting news and wanted Carlos to come to LA for a bit. Carlos agreed and went back to LA. When Carlos got there, Chloe was waiting next to Lucifer and Lucifer said, "Hello, Carlos. Welcome back to LA. We've actually just been called on a case. What to come with?" Carlos nodded and they all got into Lucifer's car and Lucifer drove them over to the crime scene.

"So, Dad," Carlos said. "You said you had exciting news to tell me?" "You said the same thing to me," Chloe added. Lucifer smirked, "I've decided that I'm going to be the new God." Carlos was shocked as Chloe asked, "Wait, you're gonna be what?" Lucifer replied, "The new God. Isn't that great?" Chloe said, "So your Dad's gonna retire, and he chose you to replace him?" "Nope," Carlos muttered as Lucifer said, "Well, not in so many words. He asked me, Amenadiel, and Carlos to keep it a secret, so it's obvious he wants it to be one of us." "Uncle Amenadiel said no?" Carlos asked. Lucifer replied, "Nope. It's all mine." Chloe asked, "What about all the other angels? Are they gonna be OK with this?" Lucifer sighed, "No, they'll have more opinions than Twitter, but Heaven's never been a democracy. It's best they don't find out until Dad makes it official. I mean, Carlos' home still has a king for crying out loud." "Actually," Carlos explained. "Yes we still have a king, but Ben's dad was chosen as the king amongst all the other rulers for Auradon. So he was kind of elected." Chloe asked, "But why you?" Lucifer answered, "Because I would be a much better God than my father ever was. Heck, I'm a much better father than him. Right, Carlos?" Carlos nodded, "Yeah, from what I've seen." Chloe asked, "No, but why would you even want to be God?" "I second that," Carlos added. Lucifer sighed, "Never mind the why. This is gonna be great, you two. Lots of changes when I'm in charge. War eradicated, world hunger satiated. Hangovers, never should have existed in the first place. And Carlos, I could make travel to your world more efficient, maybe even introduce magic to this world." Carlos sighed, "Ah, Dad, maybe don't do that last part. This isn't Harry Potter."

Lucifer parked to where the crime scene was, an aquarium. Lucifer looked at Chloe and Carlos, "You know, I really thought you two would be more excited about this." Chloe got out of the car, along with Lucifer and Carlos, and Chloe said, "Sorry. I guess I'm just trying to wrap my mind around what all of this means." "Means?" Lucifer asked. Chloe answered, "For us. Yeah." "I agree," Carlos added. "This sounds like you're going away again and I won't ever see you again. Ever." Lucifer sighed, "Oh, well, it won't change a thing. In fact, things will only get better. I'll become omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent. All the omnis." "But how is that good for our relationship?" Chloe asked. Lucifer answered, "I'll be there for you whenever and wherever you need me. I'll know exactly what you're thinking." "That's not at all dangerous." Lucifer smirked, "Well, I'll know exactly when you want me to do that thing you like, for example. And Carlos, just because I'm going away doesn't mean I won't visit. Or you won't be able to visit. As a half-celestial, you can go to Heaven any time you want. Visits can happen when you have a break from college or whatever your future holds. Look, both of you, this is a good thing. Trust me." Chloe sighed, "I do. I just…" "Need time to process," Lucifer finished. "Of course you do. And Carlos, you can go back to Auradon and tell everyone about your dad becoming the God. Now I have definitely beaten Hades at who's better. Trust me, you will enjoy me being God." Carlos nodded, but he still felt like his dad was slightly pushing him away, maybe to live his own life, he didn't know or understand. Lucifer smirked, "Well, in the meantime, how about business as usual? Nice little murder, take your mind off things?" Lucifer led Chloe and Carlos inside.

Inside, Ella was looking at the sharks, "Could you imagine being ripped apart by a shark?" Dan was next to her, "Do I have to?" They were standing next to the victim, who was tore apart by sharks, so pieces of her were missing. Ella asked, "What do you think the worst part would be? Those big old teeth tearing into your skin, the water filling your lungs as you scream, or the heart attack from the sheer terror of it all?" Dan chuckled, "You never cease to amaze me, Ella. I mean, even the darkest, most morbid stuff gets you excited, and that's because you know all this work's gonna help somebody." Ella sobered up and said, "Yeah."

Lucifer, Chloe, and Carlos walked in and Lucifer said, "Sharks, one of Earth's most misunderstood creatures. Definitely correcting that when I'm God." Carlos elbowed Lucifer to shut him up so he wouldn't freak Dan or Ella out by that. Chloe asked, "So, who do we have here?" Dan answered, "Bruna Lorenzoni, 33, chief operator of the aquarium. Pieces were found scattered in the tank." "Obviously," Ella added. "Death by shark, right? Wrong! See, this wound right here is way deeper than any sort of tooth. Cleaner cut too, made by some sort of blade. She was dead before she hit the water." "Lucky her," Carlos muttered. Chloe asked, "So the killer dumped the body, hoping the sharks would hide the murder?" Lucifer said, "Should've know, we'd smell something fishy." Carlos groaned as Ella said, "Aww, Dad joke, nice." Lucifer smirked, "Thanks. I'm practicing." Dan said, "We've located all of her pieces except her left arm." Ella added, "And the fingernails on the hand we do have show some sign of struggle, so I sent the samples back to the lab. Her pieces were in the water for a long time, so it's gonna be tough, but maybe our victim nabbed some of the killer's DNA." "Who found the body?" Chloe asked. "Elizabeth Newman," Dan answered. "The aquarium's owner."

Lucifer, Chloe, and Carlos found Elizabeth and started the interview, "I came in this morning because Bruna wasn't returning my calls. I never imagined I'd find her like that. Oh, this is a nightmare. I don't know how to do any of this without her." Chloe asked, "Do you know of anyone who would want Bruna dead?" Elizabeth shook her head, "No, I have no idea. She was a pillar of our marine conservation community." Lucifer commented, "Oceans wouldn't need saving if my father hadn't been slacking. Just saying." Carlos muttered, "Dad, enough." Chloe asked, "Who had access to the aquarium grounds after hours?" Elizabeth said, "I don't know. Bruna ran everything. I love our animals as much as she does, but these days I'm just more of the money person." Lucifer whispered to Chloe, "Detective, I just realized, when I'm God, I'll know the answers to all your questions. No more asking useless people like Lizzie here." Chloe whispered back, "OK, well, you are not God yet, so that is not helpful right now." Lucifer sighed, "Well, I'm just trying to get you as excited about my new promotion as I am." Carlos noticed a shadow near them and Carlos whispered, "Dad, there's someone there." Lucifer looked over and noticed it was Amenadiel. Lucifer said, "Excuse us." He and Carlos walked over to the next room where Amenadiel was.

Carlos smirked, "Hey, Uncle Amenadiel." Amenadiel smiled, "Hello, Carlos. Did you enjoy your birthday?" Carlos nodded, "Yep." Lucifer asked, "Brother, what are you doing here?" "You weren't answering your phone," Amenadiel answered. "Have you heard the news? Father's back." Lucifer was surprised, "Really? But why do you look so worried? He's still retiring, isn't he?" Amenadiel sighed, "Oh, yeah, that's definitely still happening." Lucifer smirked, "Excellent. Well, I should go talk to him and get his blessing before our meddlesome siblings find out." Carlos groaned, "Seriously, Dad?" Amenadiel sighed, "Yeah. About that."

Amenadiel, Lucifer, and Carlos flew over to a park where God had set up a retirement cookout. And all of the other angels were there hanging out while God was grilling. Lucifer was shocked, "Oh, bloody Hell! Rude. I didn't get an invitation." "So," Carlos asked as he took off his ring and his white hair reappeared. "Are all these other people my aunts and uncles?" Amenadiel nodded and answered Lucifer's question, "Not even Gabriel's e-vite?" Lucifer sighed, "Well, she emails too much. I send her straight to spam." Carlos was confused, "Why does an angel send emails?"

Suddenly they heard whooshing behind them and Gabriel appeared, "Hi, guys! Heard you talking about me. Long time no see. Glad to could make it. Archangels, assemble! Azrael says hi, wishes she could be here, but you know, no rest for the Angel of Death." Lucifer and Amenadiel sighed, "Hey, Gabriel." Gabriel turned to Amenadiel, "So, Amenadiel, someone's been a busy angel. Spill. I wanna know everything about your baby mama." Amenadiel scoffed, "Like I would tell anything to the Angel of Gossip." Lucifer chuckled as Gabriel said, "It's Angel of Messages, but whatever. I got plenty of hot gos without you." She turned to Carlos, "Aww, there's my nephew. Oh, you're so big. Come here, give your aunt a hug." Gabriel pulled Carlos into a hug and Carlos groaned, "Hello, Aunt Gabriel. Nice to meet you." Gabriel pulled away, "Just call me Aunt Gabby, nephew. Oh, white hair with dark roots. Interesting. Definitely sense magic on you. Oh, and spill about your mama." Carlos' mood soured as he said, "I don't talk about my mother. Ever." Gabriel backed up a little, "OK, then. Note to self, don't talk about Lucifer's baby mama. Got it."

She then said, "Have you all heard? Dad's getting old, and he's losing it." "Who told you that?" Lucifer asked. "Michael," Gabriel revealed. "At first we were like, "What? No way!" But then we heard that Dad was making people sing, turned himself mortal, lost his powers, exploded a human." "He put the human back together again," Carlos argued. Amenadiel sighed, "Can we please talk about the immediate problem here? Like all of us archangels gathered here on Earth, out in the open for all of humanity to see!" Lucifer replied, "Relax, brother, this is LA. No one will even notice. Anyway, if you'll excuse us, sister, we would like to have a chat with dear old Dad."

Gabriel walked away and Lucifer, Carlos, and Amenadiel started to walk, but then Remiel appeared. Carlos stepped back a bit as Amenadiel chuckled, "Remiel." Remiel smiled, "It's good to see you, brother." They hugged and pulled away. Lucifer glared at Remiel, "Sister." Remy glared back, "Brother. And nephew." She tried to walk up to Carlos, but Lucifer stood in her way, "You do not get to touch my nephew after what you did to him!" Remy chuckled, "What? I just fought him like all of us siblings do. And I boosted his celestial power. Looks like it did him some good." "It also hurt like hell!" Carlos shouted. "Agreed," Lucifer said. "You left Carlos injured severely to the point he ended up at my penthouse unconscious. So you owe him an apology." Remy scoffed, but Amenadiel said, "I have to agree, sister. As you can see, Carlos is upset at your actions. It was only through my luck finding him that I was able to get his wings out before he was more injured." Remy sighed, "Fine. Nephew, I apologize. I just wanted to help. I guess my ways are a little….much." Carlos growled, "Fine. You made me get more scars on my body, thank you very much."

Lucifer held onto Carlos' shoulders and walked away when Zadkiel, another angel, stepped in their path, "Who invited the Devil to our gathering of angels?" Lucifer sighed, "Brother Zadkiel, still taking your Angel of Righteousness role too seriously, I see." Zadkiel then spit on Lucifer's shoes. Lucifer growled, "How dare you!" His eyes turned red as Carlos said, "Dad, enough." Lucifer obeyed Carlos' command as Zadkiel chuckled, "Ah, so this is your spawn. He seems to know when to lose a fight." Carlos growled, "Uncle Zadkiel, you will let me and my father pass." Zadkiel chuckled, but then felt his body move to the side. Carlos smirked, "Thank you." Lucifer and Carlos walked past him, with Amenadiel walking behind them shaking his head.

They walked over to God, who said, "Hello, my sons. Welcome to my retirement party. Can you smell what I'm cooking? I learned that phrase from Linda. And my grandson. Now an adult. I know your birthday was a week ago, but let me wish you Happy Birthday." Carlos smiled, "Thanks, Grandfather." Lucifer said, "Dad, I thought your retirement was supposed to be a secret." God replied, "It was, and thank you for keeping it." Amenadiel said, "Father, we couldn't find you after you disappeared from Lucifer's penthouse months ago. Were you off planning your retirement?" God replied, "Oh, I should do that, shouldn't I?"

Gabriel then came up, "So, Dad. Since you're retiring, there'll be a new you, right? Who's it gonna be? If it's a secret, whisper it in my ear. I won't tell a soul." Remiel said, "It's obvious who will replace Father. It's Amenadiel." The angels cheered as Lucifer said, "Well, actually, it's not going to be Amenadiel. It's going to be the handsomest of us all." "Hanjobadiel?" Gabriel guessed. Lucifer groaned, "No, not Hanjobadiel. It's going to be me." The angels were not happy about this. Remiel asked Amenadiel, "Amenadiel, tell him it's you." Amenadiel sighed, "Remy, I'm sorry, but, Lucifer has my full support." Carlos sighed as the arguments continued. Zadkiel argued, "How can that be? Of all the angels that are worthy…" Lucifer innterrputed, "Who is more qualified than me? Good point. I ran Hell for millennia. Have any of you run your own kingdom? Even so much as a taco truck? Have any of you experience parenthood, the caring of another person? Didn't think so." Remiel said, "Brother, you know I've always followed your lead. OK? But I cannot support the Fallen One." Zadkiel said to God, "Father, this is your choice. Not theirs. Tell us who you choose to be your successor. Please." All the angels started to argue, including Lucifer and Amenadiel. God looked over at Carlos and nodded. Carlos sighed, then unfurled his wings and shouted, "Enough!" All of the arguing stopped as the other angels stared at Carlos and his wings in awe. Carlos hid his wings and said, "All of this arguing needs to stop. Just let Grandfather talk, please." God nodded, "Well said, my grandson. Now, children, one thing at a time. My retirement plan, then my successor. But first…" He walked over and put his arm around Carlos, "Today's party is not just celebrating my retirement, but also the 18th birthday of my grandson, your nephew. Let us celebrate with joy, not anger. Now, who wants another hot dog?" The angels cheered and gathered round God and Carlos, all the angels wishing Carlos a Happy Birthday and wanting to know more about their nephew. Lucifer sighed.

Later that day, Lucifer and Carlos made their way to LAPD as Carlos commented, "OK, your siblings are too much, Dad." Lucifer scoffed, "Of course they are. Thanks to Dad, you become the center of the party." He was holding a folder about retirement communities as they walked over to Chloe. Lucifer said, "Detective, I'm afraid that there has been a speed bump in my road to becoming God." "Oh, no," Chloe replied. "Really?" Lucifer nodded, "Yes, before Dad names my God 2.0, he needs a retirement plan. So I thought, what better way to prove that I'm God material than to make his plans for him?" Carlos sighed, "Of course you think that." Chloe nodded, "Huh. OK. Got it. Well, in Earthly matters, we finished interviewing everybody at the aquarium, and aside from a few endangered fish gone missing, we've learned that…Lucifer." Carlos elbowed Lucifer and Chloe said, "We have a lead." "On one of these retirement homes?" Lucifer asked. Chloe shook her head, "No, on the case. A few employees said Bruna was arguing with her husband. They overheard him making threats to her on some screaming match over the phone." "You should bring him in," Lucifer commented as he looked through the folder. Carlos sighed at his dad's antics.

Chloe and Lucifer went to interview the husband while Carlos waited behind the two way mirror. The husband said, "Yes, I threatened my wife. I threatened to leave her. The stupid aquarium was her entire life. She paid zero attention to anything else." "Including you?" Chloe asked, while Lucifer was still looking through the folder. The husband nodded, "Me, our children, our dogs, housework. She couldn't even keep up with her Fitbit challenges. The night she died, you know where I was? Home. Taking care of our two sick kids, by myself." "So you're giving us your alibi?" Chloe asked. The husband nodded, "I watch cop shows. I know how this works. You'll find plenty of footage of me covered in kid vomit on our nanny cam." Chloe said, "Bruna's employees heard you screaming over the phone. Was that also about her never being around?" The husband sighed, "That was mostly about the affair. She was making late night calls to some restaurant owner named Jeremy. I followed her to his house, but all they did was argue. Turns out it wasn't an affair. It was just about her fish. Even that was about work. Part of me hoped she was cheating on me, just to prove that her aquarium wasn't her entire universe." "Her universe?" Chloe asked. "Would you say she was sort of the god of the aquarium?" The husband nodded, "Sure. A god who didn't have time for the one who loved her the most. Me."

Chloe felt for the man. She looked over at Lucifer, "Lucifer, are you hearing this? His godlike wife didn't have time for him." "God, you say?" Lucifer asked. "Which one of these retirement homes do you think that your godlike wife would enjoy the most? Uh, Golden Oldies has the best salad bar, but you can't beat Big Sleep's water aerobics." The husband was confused, "Retirement? Bruna is dead." "Right," Lucifer replied. "Well, if you were God, which one do you think you'd like to spend your eternity in?" The husband shook his head, "I wouldn't. Not without my wife by my side." Lucifer sighed, "That doesn't help me at all. My dad's wife is in another dimension. But maybe Dad could do with a new partner."

Carlos then stormed in, grabbed the folder, and commanded, "Dad, come with me." Lucifer obeyed as he stood up and walked out with Carlos. Once outside the room, Carlos said, "Dad, you are not being sensitive to the case. Give that poor man a break, please." Chloe came running out, "Excuse me, what about the case? Lucifer, you were not listening at all to the husband." "Yes I was," Lucifer argued. "Aquarium, Fitbit, kid vomit, restaurant owner named Jeremy. Wait." Lucifer ran back in and asked the husband, "It's not Jeremy of Jeremy's Fine Food, is it?" The husband nodded and Lucifer ran back out and told Chloe and Carlos, "Oh. Jeremy is known in certain circles for serving rare, illegal animals." "The aquarium's missing fish," Chloe realized. "If Bruna found out someone was selling the fish to Jeremy and confronted him about it, that's definitely motive for murder." Lucifer started writing stuff done and Chloe and Carlos groaned.

Meanwhile, Maze was sitting with Linda in her office, "Having a soul is the worst." "But isn't that what you wanted?" Linda asked. Maze nodded, "Yeah, until I got one. Got Eve and turns out having a soul mate that can die, it's torture." Linda replied, "There's also something very special about the limited time we have with someone. Maybe you can focus on what you do have, instead of what you don't." Maze scoffed, "Not when I know Eve will end up in Heaven. Where I can never go." Linda said, "You don't know that she's gonna end up in Heaven." Maze replied, "She's the brightest, nicest, most caring, honest person ever. Of course she's going to Heaven." Linda said, "Now that you have a new soul, maybe you'll go too." Maze argued, "With all the terrible things I've done, Linda? Come on. Definitely going to Hell." Linda asked, "But wasn't there a time that all you wanted was to go back there?" Maze nodded, "Yeah, as Hell's torturer. But with a soul, if I die, I'll turn up as one of the tortured. Oh, God. I know how they're gonna torture me. I gotta go fix this."

Later that night, Lucifer was waiting for Chloe at Jeremy's Fine Foods. Carlos went back to Auradon for the night as he didn't want to be dragged into this dinner that Lucifer planned. Chloe arrived and Lucifer shouted, "Detective!" Chloe smiled as Lucifer walked over from the bar, "Lucifer. You look handsome." Lucifer smirked, "You look good enough to eat." Chloe then asked, "Um, why are we at Jeremy's right now, dressed formally? Weren't we gonna confront him tomorrow? And where's Carlos?" Lucifer shrugged, "Why put off till tomorrow what we can do tonight whilst drinking wine? Besides, if we confront him head on, he'll surely deny, deny, deny. But if we get him to sell us one of his deliciously illegal meats, then voila! Leverage. And Carlos needed to head back to Auradon for the night to study." Chloe nodded, "So like a sting-date combo. You know, that's a nice work-life balance, Lucifer. Maybe I don't need to be so worried about you becoming God after all." Lucifer chuckled, "Well, I told you." Chloe nodded, "I know. It'll be nice to have some alone time, just the two of us." They kissed each other, but then they looked over and saw God walking over. "Uh, and your dad," Chloe said. Suddenly her mom, Penelope, walked in. "And my mom," Chloe said. Lucifer chuckled, "Ready for our double Decker date?"

They were all guided to a table and sat down. Penelope commented, "Good to see you two finally together." Chloe hummed, "Hmm! On a surprise, totally without warning, double date." Penelope replied, "Oh, you didn't know either? Well, that explains a lot. My daughter never invites me to dinner." God added, "I was blindsided too." Lucifer huffed, "Impossible, Dad, you're omniscient." "Dad?" Penelope asked. "Well, we haven't been properly introduced. I'm Penelope." "I know," God replied. Penelope chuckled, "Aww, you know my work. Well, points already. And your name is?" "You can call me God," God said. "Frey!" Chloe interrupted. "Godfrey is his name." Lucifer added, "I thought you two would get along. Dad is retiring, and Penelope herself is retired." "I'm not retired," Penelope said. "Who told you that? My agent?" "Oh!" Lucifer replied. "Sorry, my mistake. Well, you have other things in common. You've both lost spouses. So, there's that." "Your wife died?" Penelope asked. God shook his head, "No, she's just in her own universe." Penelope sighed, 'Isn't that just how relationships fall apart? My John and I, we were the opposite. We were totally connected. Totally supportive of each other. What? You don't agree, Chloe?" Chloe replied, "Well, he was completely supportive of you. He gave up his dream of becoming a detective to support your career." "And you're saying that's my fault?" Penelope asked.

God said, "Children. They blame us for everything." Penelope agreed, "Right? As if we created the world." God and Penelope laughed and Lucifer and Chloe joined in, just more awkwardly. Lucifer though was happy that his plan to put his dad with Chloe's mom was working. Penelope asked, "So, tell me, Godfrey. How long have you been this handsome?" God hummed while Chloe secretly rolled her eyes.

Meanwhile, at Linda's house, Maze had a bunch of dogs in a pin and was holding one with a knife in her other hand. "All right," Maze whispered. "One, two, three." She raised her knife, but then Amenadiel walked in the front door, "Maze! What are you doing?" Maze sighed as she put down the knife, "Nothing. I can't do it." "Can't do what?" Amenadiel asked. Maze sighed, "Something I'll feel guilty about." Amenadiel walked over to her, "Why, Maze?" Maze answered, "Because that'll be what Squee tortures me with in Hell, OK? I know what my Hell loop is going to be. I was trying to change it." Amenadiel asked, "So you'd rather be a puppy murderer? I don't think Carlos would appreciate that, given who his mom is." Maze glared at Amenadiel, "I'm going to be trapped in that hospital room, Amenadiel. Breaking Eve's heart. Losing her over and over and over. Forever. So I'd rather be someone like Cruella De Vil than this." Amenadiel sighed, "Maybe not, Maze. When Lucifer becomes God, you can just ask him for help." Maze was confused, "Hold on. Lucifer's doing what?" Amenadiel clarified, "He's taking over after our father retires. I'm sure it's gonna be no problem for him to change the rules of Hell for you." Maze then handed Amenadiel the puppy she was holding, "You got this, right?" Maze walked out as Amenadiel said, "No. Maze, what are you doing? Maze!"

Back at the restaurant, God was telling Penelope stories about Lucifer, "My little rebel made such a mess in that garden." Penelope countered with a Chloe story, "Chloe's most difficult phase were her Goth years. Hot Topic almost bankrupted us." Chloe chuckled nervously, "OK. Enough with the childhood embarrassing stories, thank you. Godfrey, why don't you tell us about your old job? What kind of work life balance did you have?" Lucifer was concerned as to why Chloe asked God this question. God answered honestly, "I actually didn't have much of a life. It was pretty much all work." "I'm sure he's exaggerating," Lucifer commented. God continued, "Caused a lot of problems between me and my wife. She always felt like I didn't have enough time for her. Maybe she was right." Lucifer was stunned at his father's words.

A waiter came over and asked, "Ready to order entrees?" "I'm not hungry," God answered. "I'm vegan,' Penelope added. "What?" Chloe asked. "Since when?" Lucifer announced, "OK, I'll order for the table." The waiter replied, "Excellent. Would you like to hear our specials?" Lucifer waived the waiter closer to him and whispered, "Actually, um, I'm interested in your special specials. I'm in the mood for some Asian arowana." The waiter said, "Sir, we don't serve endangered animals here." Lucifer pulled out a 100 dollar bill, "That's not what I heard. I'd like to speak with the owner, please." The waiter said, "Sorry, sir, but you have the wrong idea." He walked away and Chloe sighed, "Well, I think we just blew our shot." Lucifer shrugged, "Oh, merely a slight snag. Anyway, let's concentrate on what's important here. Your mom and my dad. A match made in Heaven."

Suddenly, the owner, Jeremy, came over, "Excuse me. Jeremy Morgan, I'm the owner. And I want to apologize for our waiter's behavior. He had no idea we had such an important guest. Ms. Decker, I'm a huge fan. Althea: Queen of the Quarks, that should have won you an Oscar." Lucifer was peeved that he wasn't the important guest while Penelope chuckled, "Oh, my! Well, thank you. And I totally agree." Jeremy continued, "It is an honor to have you in my restaurant. Now, we don't normally serve first timers from our secret menu, and sadly, we don't have any arowana, but I do have a delicacy fit for a queen. Ailuropoda melanoleuca tartare." Penelope commented, "Oh, sounds so European." God asked, "You said you we're vegan, right? You sure you wanna eat panda?" "Panda?" Penelope asked. Chloe stood up, "Jeremy Morgan, you're under arrest." Lucifer added, "And I'm sure PETA will agree, most likely going to Hell."

Over in Auradon, Carlos was studying with Jane in her room, Dude laying on Jane's bed. Jane could tell that Carlos was slightly distracted and asked, "Hey, Carlos, are you OK?" Carlos nodded, "Yeah, why?" Jane sighed, "You've been looking at the same page for 30 minutes. Come on, what's going on?" Carlos closed his textbook, "Well, I went back to LA because my dad told me that he had exciting news. So first off, my grandfather, God, is retiring." "Really?" Jane asked. "Since when?" "He told me, my dad, and my uncle back before senior year started," Carlos answered. "Told us to keep it secret, so I did. But now since my Uncle Amenadiel doesn't want to take God's place, since he's the obvious choice apparently, my dad decided that he is going to be the next God." "What?" Dude shouted from his spot on Jane's bed. "Your dad is going to be God? That's awesome!" Carlos shrugged, "Maybe. I mean, he announced it during my grandfather's retirement party where I met all of my other aunts and uncles, there's a lot of them, and no one seemed thrilled by the idea." "Are you thrilled about it?" Jane asked. Carlos sighed, "I don't know. I mean, if it's what my dad wants, I'll support him like he would me. But it means that he's going away, maybe forever, and I don't like the idea of that. He said he would be able to visit me whenever he wants, but he's still going to be God and that will always take priority over everything else. Even me. I mean, I saw the relationship between my grandfather and my dad was like, and it wasn't pretty. I just don't want to lose him. It feels like he's leaving me behind."

Some tears started to come down Carlos' face and Jane pulled Carlos into a hug, "It's OK, Carlos. You can feel upset about this. Maybe you should talk to your dad about how you feel." Carlos pulled away, "Maybe. Right now Chloe isn't happy about how my dad is taking all of this. And she's his girlfriend." Jane shrugged, "Well, he seems to be someone that needs to see the bigger picture in things. Help him remember what is important to him, OK?" Carlos nodded, "Thanks, Jane." "So," Dude said. "Does this mean your dad will become all powerful? Because maybe he can grant some of my wishes." Carlos and Jane chuckled at that.

The next day, Ella was at Linda's office for a therapy session, "Yesterday, on my morning run, I saw this guy about to cross the street, head in his phone, not paying attention, moments away from walking into traffic. And my mind started picturing things. Like really vivid things. Which car would hit him first? Which of his bones would shatter? The position his body would land on the ground. Exactly how long it would take him to bleed out. Detail after detail. I eventually snapped out of it, but it was too late." "He got hit?" Linda asked. Ella shook her head, "No. No, he looked up in time. But that's not the point. The point is that helping him wasn't my first thought. Or my second. Or my third. How messed up is that?" Linda sighed, "Ella. You've been coming to see me ever since you caught Pete. And over all that time, you've never taken a single day off. Maybe it's catching up to you." Ella shook her head, "No, no, no, no, the job is what centers me. Channels these thoughts into some kind of purpose. The truth is I've been this way my entire life. I've hidden it from everyone. Dan, Chloe. Everyone thinks I'm a good person. I told Amenadiel that I would try to accept myself, but how? How can I accept myself when this darkness is such a part of who I am?" Linda and Ella sat there in silence.

Over at LAPD, Lucifer and Chloe were interviewing Jeremy, but Lucifer was too involved with his phone, "Why haven't I heard anything yet? I gave my dad a phone. The least he can do is text me how it went." Chloe sighed and looked back to Jeremy, "As I was saying, we found your freezer full of illegal meats. Bruna found out. She was gonna expose you, so you killed her." Jeremy said, "I had nothing to do with Bruna's death. I swear. Yes, I serve exotic meats. Do you have any idea how hard it is to run a restaurant in LA? You have to innovate just to stay in business." "The savage isn't lying about that," Lucifer commented. "Oh, so you are with us?" Chloe asked Lucifer. But his phone pinged again and Chloe sighed, "So, Bruna wasn't aware of what you were up to?" Jeremy answered, "No, she was, but she wasn't trying to stop me. She was trying to sell me some of her fish." Chloe was confused, "Marine conservationist Bruna, whose whole life was that aquarium?" Jeremy replied, "I don't know about any of that. All I know is she approached me months ago and offered to sell me some bluefin tuna. It's hard to come y, so I bought some. I have the wire transfers to prove it." Chloe asked, "If you were in business, what were you arguing about?" Jeremy explained, "A week ago, she offered me her rarest fish. She said she needed to sell $47,000 worth, but I'd just maxed out my budget on bald eagle. So I turned her down. She freaked out and left, and that's the last time I had any contact with her." Chloe asked, "Where were you the night of the murder?" Jeremy answered, "My restaurant. My employees can verify." Lucifer's phone keep pinging, "For Dad's sake. I know he has big fingers, but these texts are simply indecipherable. I'm just gonna call him. Excuse me, Detective. Wolfgang Yuck." Lucifer left and Chloe told Jeremy, "We're gonna need those wire transfers."

Earlier, Carlos had entered LAPD to find his dad after coming over from Auradon. The mirror told him that his dad was here. He walked in and saw that his dad was in the interrogation room. So he waited. But he felt like someone was watching him and he looked up to see God up one the balcony looking down at him. God smiled and waved for Carlos to join him. Sighing, Carlos ran up to the balcony.

"Hello, grandson," God greeted. "It is good to see you." "You two, Grandfather," Carlos replied. "What are you doing here?" God answered, "I am waiting for Lucifer. I know he's been communicating with me through this phone he gave me. Your dad's going nuts with all the texts I've sent him." Carlos chuckled, "Yeah, that sounds like him." God then asked, "Carlos, I know you have reservations about your dad possibly taking my place. You feel that if he does, he won't have time for you like he claims." Carlos sighed, "Yeah, I guess you truly are all knowing. I mean, we just met each other over a year and a half ago. We haven't had that much time together. I just don't want that time to end so soon." "I understand," God said. "Carlos, your father cares about you very much. More than he shows. He just wants to make sure you have a good future. Without doubt, without guilt." Carlos nodded solemnly.

God looked down at Ella, who was staring out the window of her lab. Carlos noticed, "Why are you looking at Ella?" God sighed, "Because she is in pain. She is afraid of her darkness overcoming her. She doesn't know how much light she has in her. Like you. You were born in a very dark place to a villain mother. But even though you grew up in darkness and had darkness in you, you had light as well and chose to stay in the light. Maybe she needs to understand that as well."

Suddenly God's phone went over and they could hear Lucifer coming up the stairs, "Oh, come on, just answer the bloody phone." Lucifer looked over and saw them and walked over, "Oh, there you are. And Carlos, when did you get here?" "A few minutes ago," Carlos answered. "You were in the middle of an interview so I didn't want to interrupt. Grandfather was up here and we just been hanging out." Lucifer nodded, then turned to God, "So? How'd it go? Ready to ride off into the sunset with a Decker of your own?" Carlos groaned, "Still can't believe you tried to set him up with Chloe's mom." God chuckled, "Penelope is lovely. But she's a few millennia too young for me." Lucifer sighed, "Right. OK. No double Decker. Well, there's plenty more fish in the sea. I'll find you a match if it's the last non-God thing I do. Maybe even take you over to Auradon, there's bound to be some matches that are closer to your age." "Dad!" Carlos hissed. "Not happening." God said, "Lucifer, you're not listening. There is and will always be only one woman I will ever love." Lucifer sighed, "Fine. Well, if you're gonna be stubborn about it, I'll plan a different element of your retirement, then." "Son," God said. "I don't need your help." Lucifer countered, "I need to make sure that everything's ready. Unless, of course, you just want to name your successor now. Perhaps someone who's passionate about making plans, if you know what I mean?" Carlos took a few steps back and tried to hide his emotions. God commented, "You mean someone who's trying to get rid of me." Lucifer argued, "I am trying to make your transition as smooth as possible, Dad. Get everything moving so you can give me the….throne." God put his hand on Lucifer's shoulder, "Everything in its time, son. For now, I don't wanna hear you speak a word of my retirement again. You should focus on what's in front of your eyes." Lucifer sighed, "Eh. Heard and understood. You won't hear another word about your retirement come out of these lips. Come on, Carlos." Lucifer stormed away and Carlos followed, God giving Carlos a pat on the back for encouragement.

God later went to a golf course with Amenadiel and was scoring a perfect game. "Hole in one," Amenadiel said after God swung another ball. "Again." God chuckled, "This is fun. But I know why we're really here. Lucifer asked you to talk to me about my retirement." "He's delegating," Amenadiel argued. "One of the many requirements of your job, right?" God asked, "And you're sure you want Lucifer to take my place?" Amenadiel sighed, "Believe me, Dad, I have my reservations, but Lucifer's come a long way. And he does his best when you put a little faith in him." God then asked, "So how many of these games do you want me to win before we visit Lucifer's retirement homes?" They both chuckled and Amenadiel said, "I'm glad you're back, Dad. I'm really enjoying spending this kind of time with you." "Me too, son," God replied. Amenadiel then said, "But something's been bothering me. I mean, you're playing the prefect game." "Should I take it easy on you?" God asked. Amenadiel shook his head, "No, no, that's not it. It's just, I don't know. It doesn't seem to me like you're losing it." "It is strange, isn't it?" God replied. "I feel fine." Amenadiel asked, "When's the first time you noticed a problem?" God thought about it, "I didn't. Michael did. A few months back." Amenadiel's face lost its smile, "Michael noticed? And did you feel like you were losing control of your powers then?" God answered, "Not right away, but the more we talked about it, the more I realized I was." Amenadiel then said, "You know we angels self-actualize, right? Dad, what if you self-actualize too? What if you're doing this to yourself?" God didn't know what to think of that.

Back at LAPD, Lucifer and Carlos were sitting next to Chloe at her desk. Lucifer got a text from Amenadiel, "Amenadiel says Dad didn't want to see any of the rest homes I picked." Carlos rolled his eyes as Chloe asked, "Huh, do you think maybe he's reconsidering retiring, maybe?" Lucifer realized, "You don't want me to be God, do you?" Carlos sensed an argument about to start so he wheeled his chair away as Chloe said, "Lucifer, this whole case, you know, your mind has been elsewhere. And I just wonder if when you're actually ruling the universe, you don't have time for us. Just like your dad said that he didn't have time for your mom." Lucifer took Chloe's hand, "Detective, I have told you. I'm going to do things differently." Chloe chuckled, "Said every child of every parent ever." Chloe looked over at Carlos and she noticed that he had a sad look on his face. "Maybe he feels the same way," Chloe thought.

Ella then walked over, "Guys, so I checked Bruna's secret wire account, and it confirms Jeremy's story. She was totally receiving deposits from him." "So she was selling her fish," Chloe said. Ella continued, "That's not all. A few days before she was murdered, she received a mondo transfer for $47,000." Chloe realized, "The exact same amount that Bruna told Jeremy she needed." Ella nodded, "Mm-hmm. Now, I don't know who sent the payment, but I was able to track the routing info to an IP registered to this address." She showed them a file. Lucifer looked at it and grinned. Carlos wheeled over and saw it as well.

Chloe, Lucifer, and Carlos arrived at the address, which was a kendo studio. They walked in and saw some people fighting each other in kendo style and some others were sitting eating sushi. Chloe said, "Huh! That sushi they're eating could be Bruna's fish. Recognize anyone?" Lucifer replied, "Oh! Yakuza tattoos." "Wonderful," Chloe said. "Who do you think's in charge?" Lucifer pointed to the man dressed in red, who kicked everyone's asses at kendo, "My guess. The impressive chap in red. I'll get us an audience." Lucifer started to take off his shoes as Chloe said, "We have a warrant." Lucifer replied, "Well, respect will get us further. And the quickest way to earn that is to display superior skills in battle." "Battle?" Chloe asked. "Lucifer, no." Lucifer reassured, "Detective, I'm invulnerable, remember? Besides, my dad has been driving me up the wall. I need to blow off some steam."

But before Lucifer could hand Chloe his shoes, Carlos handed his shoes to Lucifer and said, "I'll handle this. I need to blow off some steam too." Before Lucifer could interject, Carlos walked over to the man in red and got hold of a kendo sword and said, "Fancy another go?" The man turned around and he laughed. Carlos then said, "What? You think taking on a kid is too easy? Or are you scared?" The man growled and attacked, but Carlos defended every blow, and eventually knocked the man backwards to the ground. Lucifer and Chloe stood there in awe of Carlos' skill. The man got up and threw off his gloves and picked up a real sword from the wall behind him. Carlos chuckled, "Well, this doesn't seem like a very fair fight. Let's even things up, shall we?" Carlos secretly called one of the real swords to him and swung it around, showing off his skill, "Now we're even." The man charged in and they started to fight each other. Carlos was clearly the stronger fighter as eventually he did a move that sent the man's sword flying away and Carlos held his sword to the man's throat. Carlos asked, "Do you surrender?" The man nodded and Carlos looked over at Chloe and Lucifer, "I think he's ready to talk now." Lucifer stood there looking at Carlos and thought, "That was some impressive sword fighting. But why did he need to do it instead of me?"

Carlos lowered his sword and the man in red stood up and took off his mask. He said, "That was some impressive sword skills, young man." Chloe walked over and said, "Detective Decker, LAPD. I have some questions for you." An attendant brought over a tray of sushi and Lucifer took a piece. Chloe said, "Who knows what that is?" Lucifer sighed, "Good point." The man chuckled, "OK, that's not Bruna's endangered fish. I only bought her good legal stuff." "$47,000 worth?" Chloe asked. The man shook his head, "No. That was purely a donation I made because she was an honorable woman." Lucifer asked, "What's so honorable about making a profit selling endangered animals?" The man answered, "She wasn't keeping the money for herself. She was putting the money back into the aquarium to save the fish. The place was in dire straits. Without the 47K, the aquarium would go under." "So she was sacrificing a few fish to save the many? Huh. Wonder what Uma would have done." Carlos said. Chloe then asked, "Did anyone else know what Bruna was doing?" The man answered, "A woman called from the aquarium asking about the donation, implying it was for some missing fish. She sounded angry. I didn't catch her name." Chloe said, "Thank you." Lucifer handed the man the sushi, "Yes, thank you." The man walked away and Chloe wondered, "Which female employee would have motive to kill Bruna?" Carlos realized, "Well, who would be more angry about the aquarium being used as a seafood bar than the owner, Elizabeth?" "Exactly," Chloe replied. "But we have no evidence to prove it."

Lucifer got a text from Maze that she wanted to talk. So Lucifer took Carlos back to the penthouse while Chloe went back to LAPD. Maze was waiting in the penthouse when Lucifer and Carlos got there. Maze said, "Hey, kid. Here, I got you this for your birthday. Sorry it's late." She handed him a box and Carlos opened it to reveal one of her demon knives. Maze explained, "I know you can protect yourself just fine, but you can always have a backup." Carlos smiled, "Thank you, Maze."

Lucifer then asked, "So, Maze, what was it you wanted to see me about?" Maze reached into her pocket and pulled out Lucifer's ring that held Lilith's immortality and put it on the piano. Lucifer was confused, "Well, don't you wanna keep it?" Maze shook her head, "Eve doesn't want it, so it's useless to me." Lucifer sighed, "Maze, I am sorry that I didn't tell you about your mother. I wanted to. I don't know, maybe I shouldn't have kept my promise." Maze replied, "It's OK. Lucifer, I get it. You were just trying to protect me from having to face how little I meant to her. Yeah. So I hear you're going to be God." Carlos sat down on the couch and sulked a little as Lucifer said, "If all goes well. Do you wanna talk me out of it?" "No," Maze answered. "I want you to be God, so you can change one of the rules of Hell for me." Lucifer realized, "Ah, yes, Amenadiel told me you want me to change your Hell loop." Maze shook her head, "No. I want you to change who can sit on the throne." Carlos perked up from his seat on the couch as Lucifer said, "But Father said Hell no longer needed a warden." Maze replied, "But maybe it deserves one." Lucifer said, "Please don't tell me you want my son on the throne to take my place." Maze said, "No. He doesn't belong in Hell. But I do." Carlos sighed in relief as Lucifer asked, "You? Is that what you really want?" Maze sighed, "I can't stay here, Lucifer. And I want to control who does the torturing." Lucifer sighed, "Well, I can't think of anyone I would trust more with our old home. To Mazikeen. Queen of Hell." He handed her a drink and Maze said, "I was thinking Maziqueen. But whatever." They clinked glasses as Carlos thought, "This doesn't feel right. Dad is so hellbent on becoming God. Does she really not understand what he will be leaving behind? Chloe? Me?"

Back at LAPD, Ella was typing away on her computer when God walked in. Ella stood up, "Daddy Morningstar! Hey." She ran over and gave God a hug, which he reciprocated. Ella pulled away, "Oh, if you're looking for your son and grandson, they…You know what I just realized? If you're Lucifer's dad, that would make you God. Right?" God chuckled, "Hmm. That would, wouldn't it?" Ella sighed, "I really wish you were. Because I am grasping at straws in our latest case. And it would be so much easier if you'd just, you know, wink, wink, just tell me how to catch our killer." God sighed, "I can't tell you that. But I can tell you're struggling with something. Is there anything I can do to help?" Ella sighed, "Not unless you can smite the darkness out of me." God replied, "Everyone has darkness in them. It's not about getting rid of it. It's about accepting it." Ella said, "Yeah, but mine's different. Deeper. It attracts me to bad people. I think maybe I'm a bad person." God replied, "My child. The darker the darkness, the brighter the light. And you, Miss Lopez, shine so very, very brightly. I can see it all the way from Heaven." Ella cried a little, but then the computer beeped, "Oh, uh, those are the results! Oh, my gosh. My hunch paid off. My…" She had gone over to her computer, but when she turned around, God was gone.

In the conference room, Chloe and Dan were going over files when Chloe said, "So, God is retiring. And Lucifer's taking his place." Dan replied, "Huh. Makes an odd amount of sense." Chloe said, "Really? That's your reaction?" Dan replied, "Well, Lucifer is surprisingly great at big picture kind of stuff. I mean, he did just pull off a pretty elaborate prank that made me think I got a bunch of people killed. So…" Chloe was confused, "I'm sorry. Lucifer did what?" Dan replied, "Doesn't matter. The point is, it was a pretty transformative experience for me. In a good way. So, if Lucifer is God, I can think of crazier things." "Wow," Chloe said. "Did not think I would ever hear that from you. But that's what I'm concerned about. I'm worried that he won't be able to balance being the ruler of the universe with being my boyfriend. Along with being a father to Carlos. I mean, I saw the look in Carlos' eyes. He's not happy about this, I don't think." Dan nodded, "I get it. It's a lot. But if it's any comfort, Lucifer's crazy about you. And you know that. And you're crazy about him. So I think you should just trust that whatever challenges life throws at you, you're gonna figure it out. As for Carlos, I understand that he may feel that he's losing his dad, but I know Lucifer cares a lot about his son. But speaking as a father myself, as much as I want Trixie with me forever, I want her to have her own future. I think Lucifer feels the same way."

Ella then ran in, "Prepare to be impressed. So you guys remember how we couldn't find the victim's missing arm, right? So based on her husband saying that she had a Fitbit, I was able to track its serial number, ping its location and boom found it! It's still at thee aquarium, you guys. Doing figure eights in one of the tanks." Chloe asked, "So it's inside of a shark?" Ella nodded, "Bingo! Now sharks swallow their meals whole, so if there's any sort of evidence on that arm, it might still be there." Dan said, "Yeah, but the hand that we already have didn't produce any identifiable DNA, so with water and stomach acid, the chances are even slimmer with this arm." Chloe realized, "Right. But the killer doesn't know that."

Chloe called Lucifer and Carlos and the trio went back to the aquarium. They found Elizabeth arguing with college movers about moving a shark and the movers said they couldn't do that and left. Chloe asked, "You moving something?" Elizabeth turned around and chuckled nervously, "Detective. This shark's grown too large for his tank. I'm transporting him to the marina to set him free." Chloe replied, "Just two hours after I told you it's digesting a piece of evidence." Lucifer added, "I couldn't imagine a more suspicious time to suddenly free Willy." "The shark's name is Andrew," Elizabeth retorted. "And I'm sorry, but unless you have a warrant, then whatever's in Andrew's stomach has to stay there while I release him." "That's funny," Chloe said. "Because I thought you were a hands-off kind of boss." "Not when it comes to covering up her crimes, it seems," Lucifer added. Chloe said, "Oh, and we do have a warrant. Our search team is in your office right now. Plus, I'm sure we'll find your DNA on Bruna's arm." "So I would say, you are dead in the water, Lizzie," Lucifer added. Carlos said, "Dad, no more puns. Now, Elizabeth, why don't you tell us what you did." Elizabeth answered, "I was too hands-off. I found out too late that Bruna was playing God, choosing which fish would live and which ones would die. None of these beautiful creatures deserve that." Lucifer said, "Sounds to me like Bruna wasn't the only one playing God. Did you enjoy smiting her?" Elizabeth answered, "I didn't mean to kill her. I confronted her about what she was doing, and she threw it in my face. She said that she'd been telling me about our financial issues for years. You know, things got heated, and I lost control. I didn't even know I had the letter opener in my hand until I stabbed her with it. If I had just listened to her, given her what she needed when she told me, then none of this would have even happened." An officer came up behind her and handcuffed her as Chloe said, "Well, Elizabeth Newman, you're under arrest for the murder of Bruna Lorenzoni."

The officer led Elizabeth away as Carlos noticed a sad look on Lucifer's face, "Dad, you OK?" Lucifer replied, "No, I…Something our killer said just made me realize something. I don't think I've been listening at all to what my father truly wants for his retirement. Detective, would you excuse me? There's something I need to do. Come on, Carlos." Lucifer and Carlos walked away, leaving Chloe standing there alone.

Lucifer took Carlos back to Lux and they went up to the penthouse. Carlos asked, "So, Dad, what did you mean by not listening to Grandfather about what he truly wants for his retirement?" Lucifer sighed, "I realized that there was one thing that dear old Dad wants, and that's Mom." "Mom?" Carlos asked. "You mean my grandmother?" Lucifer nodded, "Yes, but she's in our own universe now and I can't get to her. I wanted to ask if the stone you gave me would be able to open a portal to her universe." Carlos thought for a moment, "I don't know. If I knew what world it was, maybe. Do you know?" Lucifer sighed, "No. When I used the sacred sword to cut into a new universe, it was empty. Thus it had no identity. And since it closed after my mom went through, I don't know its location." Carlos replied, "Then I don't think I can. The magic I use and that stone I gave you focuses on locations, not people."

Lucifer then got an idea, "But I know someone who could. She can go to any world in order to deliver a message to someone." Lucifer walked out to the balcony and put his hands together in prayer form, "Hey, Gabriel. You got a minute?" Nothing happened so Lucifer said, "Oh, come on, I know you're listening. You always are." That fact made Carlos worry a bit as he didn't like a random person listening at all times. Lucifer heard a whoosh behind him and Carlos jumped back a bit as Gabriel appeared in the penthouse, "What can I say? It's one of my God-given talents. Oh, hello nephew. Let me give you a hug." She pulled Carlos into a hug and Carlos winced, "Hello, Aunt Gabby." Gabriel pulled away, "Aww, you called me Aunt Gabby. How sweet." Lucifer walked to her, "Sis, right now I am interested in one of your other talents. I need you to do me a favor."

Chloe was at home when she heard a knock on her door. She opened it to see Penelope standing there. "Mom!" Chloe said. "Hi. What are you doing here?" Penelope walked in and handed Chloe a box of cake mix, "I brought Trixie a chocolate cake." "Oh," Chloe replied. "How thoughtful. She won't be here until later, but thank you." Chloe looked over and saw her mom staring at a poster from one of her old movies and a picture of her husband sitting below it and Chloe asked, "Mom, are you OK?" Penelope sighed, "It's what you said at dinner. I mean, do you really think I'd make your father give up his dreams?" Chloe replied, "Well, I don't know if you made him, but he did." Penelope turned to Chloe, "Oh, darling. You always think you know everything. Your father and I had a deal. We would take turns. He'd hold off on becoming a detective until I got my acting career going. And then after a few years, we would switch. But when it came time for his turn, he, um…" "He died," Chloe finished. Penelope sighed, "I wanted to see your father become a detective so badly." Chloe started to tear up, "I'm sorry, Mom." Penelope then said, "I just need you to know that i loved your father from the bottom of my heart. And I'd give anything to have another chance to being the supportive partner." Chloe sniffled, "OK, Mom. I hear you." The two hugged it out. Chloe pulled away, "You wanna stay for dinner? We have dessert." Penelope chuckled and nodded.

Over at Lux, Lucifer was sitting down at the bar at Lux drinking whiskey. Carlos was over at the piano playing softly. Amenadiel and God walked down the steps and Amenadiel said, "Lucifer! Why'd you call us here, brother?" Carlos stopped playing and got up and walked over. God commented, "You play beautifully, my grandson." Carlos smiled softly, "Thank you." Amenadiel then asked, "Why'd you call us here, brother?" Lucifer answered, "Well, after finally listening to what Dad's been telling me all along, I realized there's only one thing that's gonna make his retirement fulfilling. So, I enlisted Gabriel's help to make it happen. Did you know our sister can deliver a message anywhere? And I mean anywhere."

He gestured to the top of the stairs and there stood Goddess, God's wife. Amenadiel was shocked and looked back at Lucifer, who nodded. Amenadiel started to get tears in his eyes. Carlos whispered, "So that's my grandmother?" Lucifer nodded as Goddess walked down the stairs and Amenadiel said, "Mom?" Goddess smiled, "Hello, my sweet boy. And my other sweet boy." She looked over to Carlos, "And this must be my grandson that Gabriel wouldn't stop talking about. Carlos." Carlos nodded, "Hello, grandmother." Goddess then looked over at God, "Husband." "Wife," God replied. As God walked over to Goddess, Amenadiel whispered, "Lucifer, how?" Lucifer sighed, "Well, it wasn't easy. Mom says she only has enough juice for this one time."

God said, "I never thought I'd see you again." Goddess replied, "I never thought I'd see you retire." God hummed, "Hmm. Well, like I've always said, it's a tough gig. But you understand that now that you're doing it." Goddess replied, "I don't find it nearly as difficult as you made it out to be." God said, "Then clearly you're better at it than I ever was. No surprise in that." Goddess smiled, "Well, I must admit, though, it does get lonely at the top."

Amenadiel whispered to Lucifer, "Lucifer, you don't have to become God anymore. I found out Dad's not losing his powers. Michael's been gas lighting him. It's all been inside of his head." Carlos huffed, "Wow. He is clearly a dick of the highest order." Lucifer scoffed, "Right you are, Carlos. Well, he won't get away with that sorta thing when I'm in charge." Amenadiel argued, "Brother, do you hear what I'm saying? Dad's fine. He can keep being God. Everything can go back to normal. Everything. We can be a family again." Carlos secretly smiled at that because he didn't want his dad to lose himself in the role. Lucifer said, "Wonderful, except for the part where I don't get to become God and prove that I'm worthy." Carlos and Amenadiel were shocked to hear that. Lucifer said, "Just, I'll deal with this."

Lucifer walked over to God and Goddess with Amenadiel behind him and said, "So looks like my plans for Dad's retirement have gone off to a smashing start. What's it gonna be, hmm? Good old Florida? Back up to the Silver City? Maybe even a vacation to Auradon?" "Dad," Carlos warned. Goddess said, "Actually, we have decided we're moving to my universe." Lucifer, Amenadiel, and Carlos were shocked. "What?" Amenadiel replied. "But you're both here. Together. You're just gonna leave us again? Without any ability to come back?" God said, "Your mother spent a long time in my world. It's my turn to spend time in hers." Lucifer didn't know what to say, "Dad, a word, please."

Lucifer pulled God with him while Amenadiel stayed with Goddess. Carlos took a few steps back as he felt they all needed to get some things off their chests. Lucifer said to God, "I can't believe I'm saying this, but now that we know you're not losing it, there's no need for you to retire. You can just keep on being God." God replied, "I thought you wanted to be God." Lucifer stuttered, "Well, I did. I….I do. But you've only just got here. Can't you stay and annoy me for a bit longer?" God put his hand on Lucifer's shoulder, "Nothing lasts forever, son." Carlos heard that and those words hit him hard.

Goddess pulled Amenadiel into a hug, "I am so, so sorry I didn't get to say goodbye last time." Amenadiel pulled away and shook his head, "No, I never blamed you, Mom." Goddess chuckled, "No. Of course you didn't. My kindest, wisest, most perfect son. And now the prefect dad." Amenadiel sighed, "I'm far from it. But, I'm trying my best." Goddess smiled, "That's what makes you perfect."

"So that's it?" Lucifer asked. "I've got no choice in the matter?" God replied, "I've given you a life of choice. This one's mine. Lucifer, at our family dinner, you were right. I could have been a better father to you." Lucifer chuckled while crying, "Well, now you forego your mysterious ways. Just as you're leaving?" God smirked, "No need for them anymore now that I'm retiring. Which means I can say something I've wanted to for a long time. I love you, son. And I am very proud of the man you've become. And of the father you are to your son." God pulled Lucifer into a hug and both men were crying. "I think Amenadiel might like to hear that too," Lucifer commented. God chuckled while pulling away, "I already told him. It was an emotional round of golf. Lucifer, the feelings you feeling right now, your son is feeling the same way about you. Talk to him."

God turned to Carlos, "My grandson, you've become a fine young man. You were able to find love all on your own, despite where you came from. And you've done well showing that same love to your father. But know this. Just because you can't be around someone all the time doesn't mean that they aren't with you anymore. Take that and go have a bright future with those you love. Including that lovely girlfriend you have." Carlos started to tear up and nodded. God pulled him into a hug and Carlos said, "I'll miss you, grandfather." God pulled away and Goddess came over and said, "It was nice to meet you, my grandson."

She turned to everyone, "Time to go. My universe needs me." Goddess then pulled Lucifer into a hug, "Thank you, son. And good job with your son." God hugged Amenadiel and then he and Goddess started to walk away. "Dad, wait," Amenadiel said. "You forgot to name your successor." "it's not up to me anymore," God replied. "You'll figure it out." Lucifer chuckled, "Back to your mysterious ways already." God smiled, "All part of my plan." "Plan," Lucifer said. "How much of this was your plan?" God and Goddess pulled back a curtain and bright light poured out as God chuckled. "Goodbye, my loves," Goddess said. They walked into the light and disappeared. Amenadiel and Lucifer were sobbing quietly. Carlos walked over and Lucifer pulled him into a hug.

Amenadiel eventually left and Lucifer and Carlos went up to the penthouse. Lucifer made a quick call to Chloe then came back to where Carlos was sitting on the couch. Lucifer said, "Carlos, I realized something after talking to Dad. You never wanted me to become God, did you?" Carlos sighed, "I don't know, honestly. It's just….You said that Grandfather was never around when he had the role and I'm afraid that if you take on the role, I'll never see you again. You won't have time for Chloe, for me. I just got you into my life. I don't want you leaving it so soon. But maybe Grandfather is right. Nothing lasts forever. No matter how much we want it too." Carlos started to cry and Lucifer walked over and pulled Carlos into a hug, "Carlos, just because I'm becoming God doesn't mean that I will leave you. Ever. I just want to prove to you that I am worthy of you. Same with the Detective. Also…you'll be graduating high school soon and then you'll be off into your own future. One where you won't need me anymore. Or that you wouldn't want me around anymore." Carlos pulled away, "You're my dad. I'll always want to spend time with you. Even if it's not the amount I want. I still want to be a part of your life. And you don't have to prove your worth to me. You already have. I love you, Dad." Lucifer teared up and pulled Carlos into another hug, "I love you, son."

The elevator door opened and Chloe walked through, "Hi. Oh, should I come back?" Lucifer and Carlos pulled away and Lucifer said, "No, Detective. Come in. Join us." Carlos nodded in agreement. Chloe walked up to Lucifer, "I'm glad you called. How are you two holding up?" Lucifer shrugged, "Oh, nothing lasts forever, I suppose." Carlos added, "No matter how much we want it to." Chloe then said, "I decided something. I'm quitting the LAPD." Lucifer and Carlos were shocked by that. "Sorry," Lucifer replied. "I thought I heard you say you're quitting the LAPD." "That's exactly what she said, "Dad." Chloe sighed, "I become a cop so that I could do good and help people. And as God, you'll have the power to help, well, everyone. So if I can help you become God, then I'll be helping everyone as well." "Are you sure?" Lucifer asked. "I mean, how can I call you "the Detective" if you're not actually a detective?" Chloe chuckled, "Lucifer, you've been helping me do my job for the last five years. Now it's my job to support you. That's what partners do, right? I'll take that as a yes." They leaned in and kissed each other.

Carlos heard whooshing and saw Remiel appear, "Uh, Dad." Lucifer and Chloe pulled away and Remiel walked up to the trio, "Where is Father?" Lucifer retorted, "Uh, excuse me, we were having a moment." "Dad," Carlos said. "She seems concerned. Just tell her." Lucifer sighed, "Fine. Dad's gone. Retired. Eternally unavailable." "Did he name his successor?" Remiel asked. "No," Lucifer answered. "He said it was up to us to figure it out, but why?" Remiel asked, "Can we talk? Without the human?" Carlos replied, "You will tell all of us what is going on." Remiel obeyed and said, "Upon returning to the Silver City, I discovered something alarming. Michael's been gathering support from the others." "Support for what?" Chloe asked. "Michael wants to be God," Lucifer realized. "The sneaky bastard. I bet this was his plan all along." "Told you he's a dick," Carlos added. Remiel continued, "If it's up to our brothers and sisters, it looks like he had a good shot, which is why, and I cannot believe I am saying this…" She then kneeled and said, "I am backing you, Lucifer. As well as your son. I may not like you, but I hate Michael even more." "Now there's a ringing endorsement for my campaign poster," Lucifer commented. Remiel stood up, "Michael would never suspect I'd take your side. So, I'll find out what he's up to." "Whatever it is," Chloe said. "It can't be good." "And knowing my brother," Lucifer added. "He won't be wasting any time." Remiel then looked at Carlos, "But I do know one thing. Carlos, Michael is very interested in you. And that he may have figured out what world you come from. Be on your guard." Carlos nodded, "I will. And I will alert Auradon as well. If Aunt Gabriel is on his side, she'll be able to get there. But Uncle Michael will learn that no one messes with a VK."

Meanwhile, Gabriel was waiting in a dark place for Michael. Michael snuck up behind her and said, "Who's your favorite brother?" Gabriel groaned, "Quit it, dork!" Michael chuckled, "Gotcha." Gabriel then said, "I did the favor for Lucifer, like you asked me to. Gotta say, Mom's universe is pretty cool. The centaurs freak me out, though." "And?" Michael asked. "Did you get the thing?" Gabriel smirked, "I got the thing." She reached into her bag and pulled out Azrael's blade, which Lucifer had throw into Goddess's universe, but Gabriel took it when she delivered her message to Goddess. She tossed it to Michael, who leaped out of the way, "Careful. This thing can actually kill us." "Oh, that's right," Gabriel said. "My bad." Michael picked it up off of the ground and said, "Azrael really should have kept a better eye on her blade." He looked at Gabriel, "One other thing I need you to do. Tell me what you heard over these few months about our nephew and where he's from. This Auradon you told me about. You may need to take me there at some point."
