At Linda's office, Linda was editing a book that she decided to write called Sympathy For The Devil, highlighting all of her different interactions with Lucifer. She was looking over a paragraph when Lucifer burst into the office, "Ah, Doctor, sorry to interrupt. Uh, what are you working on?" Linda quickly hid some of the pages and lied, "Oh, uh, I'm journaling. I've been looking for something to fulfill me, and I've found this works." Lucifer bought the lie, "Well, you should write in your journal that you were wrong. Remember how it was your idea to help someone I didn't care about to prove I could be God?" "No," Linda answered. Lucifer continued, "Well, it didn't work. Because I ended up caring for him, so back to square one." Linda was confused, "So you didn't want to care for this guy?" Lucifer shook his head and sat down on the couch while Linda muttered, "Maybe this was partly due to Carlos keeping an eye on him. Or not."
She looked down at her manuscript, then back up at Lucifer as she walked over and sat in the chair opposite him, "You know, I've found the best way to get answers can be to look to the past. We met because of a case, which I'm realizing I don't know a lot about. Those details might be enlightening. For you. Of course." Lucifer was confused but said, "OK. Well, a friend of mine had been murdered, someone I cared about quite a bit." "Delilah, right?" Linda asked. "The singer? She was a patient of mine." Lucifer remembered, "That's right. It was the first time that Chloe and I met. We caught the killer, a record producer who was trying to profit from Delilah's death." "Tell me about him," Linda insisted. Lucifer sighed, "Oh, well, he was a vile, horrid little man. He was the worst." Lucifer then realized something, "He's perfect." Linda was confused, "Perfect for what?" Lucifer explained, "Well, I don't want to fall into the trap of caring about someone again, so who better to help than someone I hate? Oh, Doctor, you're a genius. This totally makes up for your earlier bad advice." Lucifer stood up to leave as Linda asked, "What was his name? Why was he horrid? Do you remember anything else about the case?" But Lucifer opened the door and left, not answering any of her questions.
Over at LAPD, Ella was staring at the frog that landed on her car, which she had taken and put into a pet container. She was in her lab when Lucifer burst in, "Ah, you're here." Ella looked up, "Where else would I be?" Lucifer sighed, "Good point." Ella then asked, "How far do you think a frog could fall and live?" Lucifer chuckled, "Sounds like a fun experiment, for us, less the frog. You're welcome to use my penthouse if you wish." Ella glared at Lucifer, "I'm not gonna do that, Lucifer." Lucifer asked, "So is this amphibious fellow your latest suspect?" Ella answered, "I think this frog is something else entirely. I think it could be tied to something big. Really big. Something mind, body, and soul altering. But I'm not ready to reveal it just yet because I think it might make me sound a bit kooks. Unless you really want to know…"
"I respect your privacy, Miss Lopez," Lucifer interrupted. "Besides, I'm working on something very important myself. And I need your help." Ella nodded, "Oh, sure." Lucifer explained, "I'm looking for a criminal who should still be in the police system." Ella replied, "Oh, I can look him up for you. What's their name?" "Jimmy Barnes," Lucifer answered. "Last I heard, he's in some sort of insane asylum. Kind of my bad, but trust me, he had it coming." Ella typed away on her laptop, "Oh, well, I found him, but, well, see for yourself." She showed Lucifer what she found and Lucifer was shocked, needing to rethink his strategy.
Over at Lux, Carlos was sitting at a table on his computer, typing away at his email, sending a message to Jane about how things we're going in LA. Jane had been confused as to why Lucifer hadn't gone to Heaven yet, but Carlos explained to her that Lucifer was taking things slowly and wanted to be fully ready. He finished typing and looked down at Dude, who was chasing his own tail. "Dude," Carlos said. "Is there anything you want to add to my email to Jane?" Dude thought for a moment, then asked, "Can you ask her if she can make more of those treats I like?" Carlos chuckled, "Sure, I can do that." Dude then asked, "Are you closer to figuring out when and how to propose to her?" Carlos sighed, "I think I have a good idea of how. Just when is the question right now."
He finished typing and hit send when Chloe walked in, "Oh, hey Carlos. Is your dad here?" Carlos nodded, "Yeah, he's been back for a while. He seemed like he was in a hurry and told me that he'll talk to me later. Whatever that means." Chloe walked over to Carlos, "Well then, why don't you come up with me? Because I need to talk to him about this." She showed Carlos Amenadiel's necklace and Carlos asked, "Why do you still have that?" Chloe sighed, "I don't know. I guess I like holding onto it. But now it's time to return it. Come on." Chloe walked to the elevator while Dude whispered, "Does she seem off to you?" Carlos nodded and whispered back, "Yeah, she does. Maybe it has something to do with the necklace."
Chloe, Carlos, and Dude walked into the elevator and went up to the penthouse. When they arrived, Chloe walked out first, "Hey, Lucifer, you know, I was thinking, uh, maybe it's best if I put Amenadiel's necklace back in the safe." But she looked up and saw Lucifer holding different shirts like he was trying to decide what to wear. "Dad," Carlos asked. "What are you doing?" "Trying to find the right shirt." Chloe asked, "Are you going somewhere?" Lucifer nodded, "I am indeed. Now which do you prefer? The iconic white or pomegranate for more of an "original sin" vibe?" Before Chloe could say anything, Carlos said, "The white. It's a better contrast to your jacket and pants." Lucifer nodded, "That's what I was thinking. Thank you, son. You have quite an eye." Carlos shrugged, "Well, when your mother used to be a fashion designer, you pick up on some things." Lucifer continued, "An occasion like this requires the classic look."
Chloe was still confused, "Wait. What occasion?" Lucifer explained, "Well, I went to see the doctor again, and I realized if I'm going to be God, then I need to help someone that I hate. So, I am gonna help Jimmy Barnes, of all people." Carlos asked, "OK, who is that?" Lucifer explained, "Well, he was the killer on the first case Chloe and I worked together." Chloe laughed, "Jimmy Barnes? The same Jimmy Barnes who killed your friend and went insane when he saw your devil face?" "Oh, he sounds lovely," Carlos said sarcastically. Lucifer replied, "Throw in his rather tremendous forehead and you've described him to a T." Chloe retorted, "Well, I hate to tell you this, but he died a year ago in a mental hospital." "Yeah, I know that too," Lucifer replied. "So I'm just gonna pop down to Hell to see him. It's almost easier this way, really." "Wait," Carlos asked. "You're going to Hell? Now? That's why you told me that you'll talk to me later? After this little trip of yours?" Lucifer nodded, "Yes." Chloe stepped forward, "So when do we leave?" Lucifer, Carlos, and Dude looked at her like she had three heads. "Please tell me she's not suggesting what I think she is," Dude said. "I think she is," Carlos replied.
Lucifer wasn't happy to hear it and stormed over and poured himself a glass of whiskey, "No, no, no, this is a terrible idea. Worst I've heard since some genius decided to cancel Bones." "Why?" Chloe asked. Lucifer said, "Oh, where do I start? That show was the perfect combination of procedure and banter…." "That's not what she means, Dad," Carlos interrupted. "Exactly," Chloe added. "I'm talking about me going down to Hell." "Oh," Lucifer sighed. "Well, first and foremost, it's never been done before. Probably because mortals can't go down there, not when they're alive anyway. I'm not even sure if you'd survive the trip. And, look, even if you did, the place is full of terrible dangers. It's, well, it's Hell. So why don't you go home, put you feet up? I'll pop this back in the safe…"
He reached for the necklace and Chloe shouted, "No!" Lucifer, Carlos, and Dude were shocked at Chloe's reaction. "Told you. There is something up with her," Dude whispered. Carlos nodded as Chloe said, "Lucifer, this makes me incredibly strong. So, shouldn't it help me survive a trip to Hell, you know?" Lucifer thought about it, then sighed, "Actually, yes, I suppose it would, but I'm not sure it's worth the risk. This isn't your problem, Chloe." Chloe glared at Lucifer, "Listen to me. Jimmy Barnes shot me in the chest. I almost died, Lucifer." "Oh, I remember," Lucifer retorted. "I hate the bastard. I mean, he truly is perfect for this." Chloe replied, "OK, so listen, if I'm meant to be God's consultant, I should know everything, right? I mean, we are partners, aren't we?" Lucifer sighed, "That we are. All right. You can come."
"I want to come as well." Lucifer and Chloe turned to see Carlos with a determined look on his face. Lucifer sighed, "Carlos, no. I am not taking you as well. You don't belong in Hell. Especially after what my rebellious demons almost did to you." Carlos stepped forward, "I know, Dad. They almost forced me to become Hell's new king. Because it's my birthright. And trust me, I've had nightmares about what happened. But I have realized that in order to fully move past it, I need to face my fears and go there. I need to see it for myself. I am its prince, after all. I don't want you leaving me here again like you did before when you went to Hell. Plus, I know I can survive the trip. I got into Heaven just fine, so Hell shouldn't be a problem. Please, I don't want to command you to take me. I'm asking. I want to go." Lucifer looked at his son and saw that Carlos wanted to go no matter what. Sighing, he said, "Alright. You can come too. More safety in numbers, I guess." Carlos smiled, "Thank you, dad."
Dude was about to say something, but Carlos said, "Dude, you're not coming." Dude whined, "Oh, come on. Why not?" Carlos replied, "One, you won't survive the trip being a regular dog. And two, if you did, Hell would break you. So I'm taking you back to the guest suite where you will wait until I get back." Dude huffed as Carlos picked him up and ran over to the elevator. Carlos dropped Dude off at the guest suite and commanded, "Stay here." He went back upstairs and said, "OK, I'm ready. But one thing first." He turned to the elevator and used his powers to command the elevator to not run until Lucifer and Carlos got back. Carlos explained, "Now no one can get into the penthouse or the guest suite while we're gone." Lucifer smiled, "Then let's go." Chloe asked, "Right now?" Lucifer answered, "There's no time like the present." They all walked out onto the balcony. Lucifer unfurled his wings and Carlos followed suit. Chloe smiled, "I will never get tired of that." Lucifer picked her up, "Ready?" Chloe nodded. "Ready, Carlos?" Lucifer asked. "Born ready," Carlos answered. Lucifer and Carlos took off for Hell.
Just a little bit later, the mystery woman arrived at the penthouse with Dan in tow. Dan looked around, "I'm back." The mystery woman sighed, "Yeah, OK. So I held up my end of the deal, now you…" "Lucifer, look out!" Dan shouted. "There's a crazy angel here. She's gonna kill you! You may want to call Carlos or something for help! Lucifer, you're in danger! There's an evil, mean murder angel right here!" "What are you doing?" the mystery woman asked. Dan revealed, "I'm foiling your plan. I fooled you, didn't I? Huh? You thought I'd help you kill Lucifer, but I learned my lesson. I'm not here to help you. I'm here to stop you." The mystery woman chuckled, "And how are you going to do that?"
Dan charged at her, but he went right through her, "What the hell?" He charged at her again, but went right through her, "How are you doing this?" The mystery woman chuckled, "I'm not." Dan tried grabbing an object from the shelf next to him, but he couldn't, "I don't understand. You literally just carried me up here in your arms." The mystery woman said, "Yeah, I sure did. From Hell. And now we're in the land of the living, and you aren't. Your body is worm food. You're just a…" A ghost?" Dan asked. The mystery woman nodded, "Yeah." Dan asked, "Why didn't you tell me this would happen?" The mystery woman countered, "Why didn't you tell me you we're going to betray me?" "That's different!" Dan argued. The mystery woman retorted, "Yeah, whatever. Anyway, clearly Lucifer's not home. But I can wait. I'd say pull up a chair, but, you know. And one thing you can tell me while we wait is who this Carlos person is." Dan turned to the mystery woman, "Wait, you don't know who Carlos is?" The mystery woman shrugged, "Maybe heard the name, but never knew who he was. Yet you do. So tell me." Dan chuckled, "Then if you are going to torture me with this, then I'll torture you by not telling you. You'll just have to find out yourself. Karma's a bitch, isn't it?"
Down in Hell, Lucifer was looking around for Jimmy's door while Chloe and Carlos looked around. Carlos felt darkness coming from doors all around him and it felt like he was back on the Isle surrounded by some of the worst villains imaginable. Carlos took a deep breath, "Focus, Carlos. You can do this. You are rotten to the core. You are a VK. You've been through worse." Chloe asked, "So, each one of these doors leads to a different hell loop?" "Yes," Lucifer answered. "Oh, come on, you two. It's best not to dwell." Carlos looked up and saw a tall pillar leading up into the sky. Carlos realized, "Dad, is that your throne?" Lucifer nodded, "Yes it is. The throne that my demons wanted to put you on to rule this place." "It looks so lonely," Chloe commented. Lucifer sighed, "It was. And it's something I don't want to put you through, Carlos." Carlos nodded, "I understand. I mean, this place certainly is bleak. At least there aren't any 3 headed dogs and a river of dead souls for us to cross." Chloe was confused so Carlos said, "That's in the Underworld where Hades used to dwell."
Lucifer looked around and Carlos asked, "What is it?" Lucifer answered, "I can't seem to find Jimmy's hell loop. He should be right around here." "Do they move?" Chloe asked. "They're not supposed to," Lucifer explained. "Something's off." Lucifer went to look around and Chloe felt a pull on a door nearby. She slowly walked to the door and her hand went up to the handle, but Carlos shouted, "Chloe, freeze!" Chloe did just that and Lucifer ran over, "Don't wanna get trapped in someone's hell loop, trust me. Been there, done that, stabbed my brother to death a million times." Carlos heard the voices of the souls around him in his head. It was becoming too much and he held his head in pain. Lucifer noticed, "Carlos, what's wrong?" "I can hear them," Carlos cried. "In my head. Their suffering. Their pain. I don't understand. This hasn't happened before." Lucifer realized, "Your powers are adapting due to your presence here. Since I am its king, I can feel every soul that's here. As my heir, you are starting to get it too. Just breathe. Create a door in your mind and block everything out." Carlos nodded and closed his eyes, but then said, "Wait. I can feel the one you're looking for. I know where he is." Lucifer nodded, "OK. Then lead us to him." Carlos nodded as he opened his eyes to reveal that they're glowing red. "Follow me," Carlos said as he lead them through the halls of Hell.
At LAPD, Amenadiel was about to start his first day as a police officer. He was sitting in the conference room waiting for his commanding officer to talk to him. He looked up as a female African American officer walked in saying, "I'm looking for Amenadiel. Just Amenadiel. Apparently that's it." Amenadiel stood up, "That's me." The officer asked, "That's your full name?" "God given," Amenadiel answered. The officer introduced herself, "I'm Officer Harris." Amenadiel chuckled, "And you thought my name was weird. Because Officer is, uh, I mean, I know that's not your full name. Why would that be your full name?"
What Amenadiel didn't know was that Maze was standing outside of the conference room spying on him. Ella walked by, "Aww. You're here for Amenadiel's first day of field training. I knew you were a softy." Maze retorted, "Shut your mouth, Ellen. I'm only here to learn what I can use to make fun of him. Who's the brick wall?" Ella answered, "Aww, man, Sonya is his training officer? Talk about drawing the short straw." "Why?" Maze asked. Ella replied, "Because she is a real hard ass. Tough as hell. I mean, most of her trainees wash out." Maze smirked, "Really?" Ella sighed, "Yep. Good luck Amenadiel. See you, Maze." Ella walked away as Maze continued to spy on Amenadiel.
Down in Hell, Carlos was continuing to guide Lucifer and Chloe to Jimmy's door thanks to his new psychic connection to the souls of Hell. Chloe asked, "So how are you going to help Jimmy? I mean, how do you help somebody who's in Hell?" Lucifer sighed, "That, I don't know the answer to yet. Good thing I brought my partner with me, isn't it?" Carlos cleared his throat and Lucifer amended, "And my son, of course." Carlos smiled, "Good. Also, we're here." Carlos stood in front of a door which Lucifer commented, "Even his door is vile. Uh, now, remember you two, every hell loop is different, so we could be in for anything." Chloe nodded, "I'm ready." "So am I," Carlos added. Lucifer scoffed, "Well, I hope so, 'cause knowing Jimmy, it's probably quite twisted and terrifying."
Lucifer went to open the door, "Good news is I shall be in complete…." He opened the door and they walked through and they were shocked to see that everything in the room looked like it was a 2D cartoon forest. "Control?" Lucifer finished. The trio looked at each other and saw that they now were animated. Chloe's eyes popped out for a second while Lucifer's jaw dropped really low. Carlos just chuckled at everything. Chloe looked at herself, "Oh, wow." Lucifer felt his chin, "Chloe, is my chin…" "Butt like?" Chloe finished. Lucifer scoffed, "I was gonna say, "This amazing in real life." Butt like?" Chloe asked, "So turning into cartoons, this isn't normal?" Lucifer shook his head, "Definitely not." Chloe scoffed, "You did drive Jimmy insane. Maybe that's why you had a hard time finding the door earlier and needed Carlos to help you, and why this hell loop is different." Carlos just stood there chuckling to himself as cartoon animals slowly made their way to him.
Lucifer then shouted, "Oh, no. This is terrible?" Chloe asked, "Because you broke Jimmy Barnes' brain?" Lucifer pulled down his pants, "I'm a smoothie! Nothing, look!" Chloe gasped, "Oh, I'm sure it won't stay that way. Right?" "Dad," Carlos groaned as a bird landed on his head. "Pull your pants up now!" Lucifer sighed, "Right." and he pulled up his pants at Carlos' command. He looked over and saw Carlos casually standing there with birds, squirrels, and deer all around him. Lucifer asked, "Don't you find this weird?" Carlos shrugged, "A little bit. Chloe did say that you broke his mind. Although these animals coming up to me make me feel like Snow White right now. And I didn't even have to sing to them to do so." Carlos petted one of the deer's head as Lucifer groaned, "Of course you wouldn't find this weird. Auradon is basically a live action cartoon sometimes. With all the singing and the fairy tales characters." Carlos chuckled and commanded to the animals, "OK, guys, time to be on your way." The animals left as Carlos chuckled.
Chloe was leaning against a tree and it bent over a little, "Ooh-ah! This feels so weird." She then rolled her sleeves up and pulled the entire tree out of the ground, "Wait, is this because I have Amenadiel's necklace or, well because I'm a cartoon? Oh, gosh, you know what? Who cares?" Chloe twirled the tree around and then threw it far away. She then went over and picked up Lucifer by his feet, "Oh, this is amazing!" She threw him up in the air and Carlos used his telekinesis to freeze Lucifer in the air before he could hit the ground. Lucifer sighed, "Thank you, Carlos. Now let me down." Carlos let him go and he flattened on the ground. Chloe then picked him up and played him like an accordion. Lucifer said, "I can't believe I'm saying this. But look, I think we need to focus." Chloe continued to play Lucifer, but Carlos commanded as dark clouds filled the sky, "Chloe, put my father down. He's right. We need to focus." Chloe put Lucifer down, "Yes. Jimmy Barnes."
Carlos relaxed and the dark clouds disappeared. Lucifer blew himself back to normal and asked, "Carlos, did you make those clouds appear?" Carlos shrugged, "I don't know. I just got stern, that's all." Lucifer pondered, but said, "We'll worry about that later. Right now, we need to find Jimmy Barnes." Chloe replied, "Well, if you were wondering how to help Jimmy, I think we have our answer. You broke him, and now, you can fix him." Lucifer realized, "Good idea. And you know what? I think I've been here before." Lucifer started to walk and Chloe and Carlos followed.
They heard organ music and found an outside wedding, one that matched the wedding of Jimmy Barnes. Lucifer explained, "This is the moment I crashed Jimmy's wedding. Right after you and I first met Chloe, in fact." They heard the priest say, "If there is anyone here who would oppose this…" Lucifer said, "Oh, hello, this is my cue. Now get ready, Chloe, 'cause I make quite the entrance." "Speak now or forever hold your peace," the priest said. Before Lucifer could make his entrance, a large cartoon Devil pushed through the trio, flattening Lucifer, "Excuse me! Yeah, I have a problem. Jimmy Barnes. Remember me? She said you tried to get her back recently…" Chloe helped Lucifer off of the ground, "That is quite the entrance." "Is that supposed to be me?" Lucifer asked. "I think so," Carlos chuckled. The cartoon devil said to the bride while holding Jimmy in a choke with one hand, "Allow me to introduce myself. Lucifer Morningstar." Lucifer gagged, "Oh, that's absurd. And his chin definitely looks like a butt. You know what? Screw Jimmy Barnes. I'm out!" Lucifer stormed off, Chloe and Carlos running to catch up with him.
Back in LA, Amenadiel was in a police cruiser with Sonya driving. Amenadiel said, "Probably wondering why I sighed up for this." "Not really," Sonya replied. Amenadiel sighed, "Yeah, well, I have a son now. And, uh, I want to make the world a better place for him. For everyone, actually. So I want you to know that I'm in it for the long haul. Really committed." "To what, exactly?" Sonya asked. Amenadiel shrugged, "Well, putting criminals away." Sonya chuckled as the radio went off, "Police officer needs assistance, 594, on the corner of Barrington and 3rd." Amenadiel remembered, "594. That's vandalism." Sonya said into the radio, "This is car 77, right around the corner, I got this."
She drove to where two bike officers were parked. One officer walked up to her and Sonya asked, "Hey, Officer, what's up?" "Thanks for coming," the officer replied. "We caught a perp spraying some pretty foul graffiti." Sonya nodded, "OK, we'll take him." The officer said, "It was horrifying. I'll never look at the elderly the same way again." Sonya replied, "All right, well, we'll take it from here." The officer kept going, "I close my eyes, and they're still there. I think they'll always be there." Amenadiel heard the back door to the car open and he saw Maze slid in. He groaned silently as Maze smirked.
Back in Jimmy's hell loop, Carlos and Chloe were following Lucifer and Chloe argued, "Lucifer, we can't just leave." Lucifer retorted, "Oh, yeah? Watch my cartoon keister do just that and not the one on my bloody chin." Chloe pulled on Lucifer's arm, causing him to cartoony stretch and he then fell backwards. Carlos chuckled, "You alright there, Dad?" Lucifer growled, "I'm fine." Chloe said, "Look, I know this makes helping Jimmy all the more difficult, but maybe it makes the goal…." "All the more worthy," Lucifer finished. "You're right. Of course you're….Carlos, what are you looking at?" Carlos pointed ahead, "Ah, I may be new here in Hell, but I don't think doors are suppose to disappear." They all saw an empty doorframe and Lucifer walked up to it, "I'm sure it's not a problem. I'll just summon a new one."
He held his fingers to his head and concentrated, but it was no use. Lucifer gasped, "Nothing! Not only can I not summon the door, I don't feel the normal control I have in Hell." "Lucifer, what are you saying?" Chloe asked. Lucifer revealed, "I think we may be trapped in here. I won't stand for this." He unfurled his wings and tried to fly out, but crashed, and fell down. He kept trying, "Bloody cartoon logic!" He tried running, punching, even pulling the picture out to get to the back screen behind it, but no luck. Chloe sat down as she was getting bored, even checked her genitals were there, and they weren't. Carlos turned away as his face turned green. Shaking his head, he closed his eyes and concentrated on the voices he heard in Hell and tried to figure out what was going on. Lucifer sighed after his last failed attempt, "We really are trapped here."
"Maybe not," Carlos said as he opened his eyes. "I tried to get the door back, but nothing so I tried something else. We came here to help Jimmy Barnes, right? From the voices I've been hearing, I keep hearing someone say, "Restore what was broken." So I think that means if we stabilize Jimmy mentally, maybe you can regain control of his hell loop." Lucifer then asked, "Well, what about what happened when you had those dark clouds appear? Try doing it again." Carlos sighed and concentrated on angry emotions and sure enough, dark clouds emerged. Lucifer noticed Carlos' ring glowing green, "Carlos, it's your magic. You have illusion magic, why didn't I realize this earlier? You may not be able to get the door back, but you can control what appears in the hell loop. Maybe we can use that." "Hey," The cartoon Devil walked by. Chloe noted, "Hey. It looks like the next loop is starting up. Maybe we can use Carlos' magic to our advantage. Are you ready, you two?" "I am," Lucifer and Carlos said at the same time. Lucifer then asked, "Chloe, did you like his chest hair? 'Cause I could grow out a tuft like that." Chloe shook her head, "No, I'm good, thank you." Chloe walked away as Carlos said, "Yeah, dad. Not the time to ask."
Back in LA, Maze was getting bored sitting in the backseat of the police car so she said to Amenadiel, "So, um, you in the front. Baldy. You look strong and very ready for battle. You look like you could kick ass, man, and win any fight. Criminals probably cry when they see you." Amenadiel sighed, "Listen, I know her…" No, you don't," Maze lied. "Random dude I've never met." Amenadiel sighed again, "I'm sorry, I don't know what she's doing or why she's doing it." Maze groaned, "God damn it, Amenadiel, we had this." Amenadiel argued, "We didn't have anything, Maze. I guess this is some crazy plan of hers to somehow make me look good." Sonya huffed, "Well, she made you look good by committing vandalism, which is illegal." "Right," Amenadiel said. "But it is just graffiti, though, right?" Sonya nodded, "Right. Textbook gateway misdemeanor. Next up, armed robbery." Maze smirked, "Ooh, that sounds nice." "Then murder," Sonya continued. "Been there, done that," Maze replied. "She's kidding," Amenadiel lied. "I don't kid," Maze said. Sonya said to Amenadiel, "You said you wanted to catch criminals. So we caught one, and we're taking her to prison." "Yeah," Amenadiel replied. "But that seems a bit excessive. She's harmless. Mostly." Sonya pulled over, "Once a criminal, always a criminal. I mean, if you don't know that, then maybe you're not cut out for this job." Amenadiel replied, "Well, then I guess I'm not, because I will never think that way." Sonya surprised him by smiling, "I hope so." She said to Maze, "Here's your stop." Maze was confused, "What?" She got out, "Really? This isn't prison. Wait, a woman's shelter, seriously?" Sonya nodded, "Seems like you're going through some stuff. There's good people here. They might be able to give you the help you need." Maze groaned, "I thought you were supposed to be tough. What the hell is this?" Maze walked inside as Sonya said, "This is police work." Amenadiel smiled at that comment.
Back in Jimmy's hell loop, it had started again and Lucifer, Chloe, and Carlos stood at the entrance of the chapel. Lucifer said, "All right, let's get this absurd character assassination over with, shall we?" Chloe and Carlos heard some of the taunts the cartoon Devil told Jimmy like, "You're short, sweaty and altogether fulgy. You're only holding her back. This homunculus is a human stain." Chloe and Carlos gave Lucifer a look and Lucifer sighed, "OK, maybe some of those things I said, but some I definitely didn't. Now, shall we interrupt this tirade?"
They all walked up to the carton Devil. He turned around, "Uh, excuse me. I'm in the middle of, uh, doing one of my performances." Chloe punched him and he flew a few feet. Chloe chuckled, "All right, let's do this." The cartoon Devil laughed evilly and he and Chloe started their fight. Lucifer chuckled, "Maybe this isn't so bad. Oh, yes, Chloe right there! In the nuts!" Lucifer pulled out a flask and took a sip, but then spit it out, "Apple juice!" He then started to swear, but he kept getting beeped out and Carlos chuckled at that. "OK," Carlos said. "Time to wrap this up. Chloe, toss him towards me!" Chloe grabbed the cartoon Devil by the horns and throw him over towards Carlos.
The cartoon Devil looked up from his spot where he landed and asked, "Who the Hell are you?" Carlos grinned evilly as his eyes glowed red, "Someone you shouldn't mess with. And now to quote my friend's mom. Now shall you deal with me, oh king. And all the powers of Hell!" Fire rose from the ground around Carlos as his ring glowed and he started to grow taller, his skin turned red, horns grow out of his head, his angel wings unfurled to reveal demon wings, as he turned into a version of the cartoon Devil, with some of his characteristics thrown in. He also used the illusion ring to change the chapel into a fiery pit. The cartoon Devil shivered in fear as Carlos shouted, "Hello, Daddy! Time to go!" He then punched the cartoon Devil hard and sent him flying. Carlos chuckled as he dropped the illusion, returning to normal. Lucifer clapped, "Well done, Carlos. And you too, Chloe."
He heard Jimmy groan behind him and Lucifer walked up to him, "Jimmy. Let's chat." Jimmy cowered back, "It's you. You ruined my wedding." Lucifer sighed, "Come on, Jimmy. This? This is your torture? Was me interrupting your sham wedding really the worst thing that ever happened to you?" Chloe whispered, "Listen, are you sure we wanna go somewhere worse?" "She has a point, Dad," Carlos added. Lucifer sighed, "Since this hell loop is broken, I fear the only way out is in. We need to go deeper, get to the real source of it all." Lucifer turned back to Jimmy, now using his Devil face, "Come on, Jimmy. Show me your real hell." Jimmy gasped as Carlos and Chloe noticed the hell loop changing around them, the cartoon changing back to real life and it seemed they were transported right into the 1980s'. Lucifer sighed, "This is definitely worse."
Back at Lucifer's penthouse, Dan was trying to pick up the phone, but his hand went right through it. The mystery woman said, "Dude, you almost had it. I saw it move." "Really?" Dan asked. The mystery woman chuckled, revealing that she was lying. Dan sighed, "OK, fine. So I can't call for help. But you know what? I don't need to." "Are you gonna run through me again?" The mystery woman asked. "Because honestly, it kind of tickles." Dan shook his head, "No, I don't need to, because once Lucifer gets here, it's gonna be a bloodbath. For you. Not to mention whatever Carlos decides to do with you." "Oh, yeah?" The mystery woman asked. Dan replied, "I mean, come on. The dude's the king of Hell. He's super strong and invulnerable. He's basically the most dangerous being in the entire universe. And Carlos, well, he's in a class of his own. How do you plan to fight that?"
The mystery woman unfurled her wings and Dan scoffed, "Oh, wow, you have wings. Lucifer's got 'em too. Along with Carlos' tricks. What are you gonna do, fan him to death?" The mystery woman sliced one of her wings through the air and cut a stone statue nearby in half. Dan gulped, "OK, that's different." "Anything else?" The mystery woman asked. "Maybe tell me more about this Carlos. Since he's, as you said, in a class of his own?" "I told you," Dan said. "I'm not telling you anything about Carlos. Listen, I understand that you wanna kill Lucifer. Hell, I tried to kill him. But I came to realize that he's actually a really good guy. Now whatever's going on with you, whatever pain that you're dealing with, let's just talk about it. I know what it feels like to be in pain and wanna hurt someone. But the person who gets hurt the most, it's always yourself. Plus, if you somehow succeed in killing Lucifer, I bet you that Carlos will track you down and kill you himself. Heck, I heard from some of Lucifer's demons that Carlos nearly killed Michael in his rage until Lucifer stopped him."
The mystery woman said, "Dan." "Yeah," Dan replied. "How did you almost kill Lucifer?" The mystery woman asked, while laughing. Dan groaned, "I'm serious." The mystery woman smirked, "Me too. I think I overestimated him. But I didn't expect to hear anything about this Carlos." Dan sighed, "Look, you're clearly going through something, and all I'm saying is that I'm here. To listen." The mystery woman walked over to a tablet and said, "In that case, then listen." She pushed a button on the tablet and rock music started to play. Dan groaned, "I meant to you. To your feelings." But the mystery woman just chuckled.
Back in Jimmy's hell loop, Lucifer, Chloe, and Carlos were looking around at the 1980s setting they were transported to. "At least we're normal again," Chloe commented. "Indeed," Lucifer added. Chloe also said, "This hell loop is very '80s, even for the time." "Clearly," Carlos added. "I'm not even from here and even I picked up on that." Lucifer meanwhile was looking down his pants, "Ah, yabba dabba do me, the devil is back." "Dad, gross," Carlos replied. Chloe asked, "Oh, is your control back too?" Lucifer closed his eyes and concentrated, then sighed, "No. Still nothing." Chloe looked around, "Look at the storefronts. They have no doors." "Jimmy's soul must still be on the fritz," Lucifer realized. "Right. We need to find that little monster and sort this out." "This is more than 30 years ago," Chloe noted. "How are we ever gonna recognize him?" "He's right there," Carlos pointed to a young man with brown hair walking down the street. "I concentrated and sensed him out. And there he is." Lucifer smirked, "Come on, you two."
They followed Jimmy into a store, but then the scene changed around them and it turned into a recording studio. "This isn't the store that we followed Jimmy into," Chloe noted. Lucifer explained, "Hell loops are a melange of nightmares and greatest hits. A touch of the surreal can do wonders for the torture." "So," Carlos replied. "It's similar to my illusion magic. Maybe that's why I could control the surroundings like I did back when this was all a cartoon. Illusion used for torture." "Speaking of torture," Lucifer said as they walked up to a recording booth and pointed to band members standing inside. "Guyliner. Really, what were they thinking?" Chloe chuckled which made Lucifer ask, "What?" "Nothing," Chloe replied. "Besides," Carlos added. "Some of my friends on the Isle wore guyliner. Even I did for a little bit."
They heard Jimmy shout, "All right, a toast! To Wednesday's Child's first single going platinum!" Chloe remember, "Yeah, Wednesday's Child. They had that one hit wonder, you remember? Like…." She tried singing the beat, which made Lucifer and Carlos look at her weirdly. Lucifer walked over to something and Carlos asked, "What are you looking for? A clue?" Lucifer showed a bag of cocaine, "Forgot. The '80s weren't all bad." Chloe and Carlos sighed.
They heard Jimmy say to the band, "I know moody is a part of your brand, but this is something to celebrate! This is only the beginning. To our first success! And so many more to come!" The front man sighed, "Yeah. About that. You're fired, dude." "What?" Jimmy asked. "What are you talking about?" The front man sighed, "I'm sorry, Jimmy. Your sound is so mainstream. We wanna make real music. Truth is, you're only holding me back." But the front man glitched and became a woman with a guitar saying the same thing. Chloe asked, "Is that normal?" "Absolutely not," Lucifer answered. Carlos remembered, "Wait. "You're only holding me back." That's one of the things the devil monster said to Jimmy in the cartoon. Remember, Dad?" "Indeed," Lucifer agreed.
They saw Jimmy walk away and they followed him as the scene changed into a dressing room where Jimmy was on the phone, "Yeah, well, you didn't hear it from me, but Wednesday's Child are total frauds. That's why I backed out on them. All their riffs are stolen." Lucifer scoffed, "Hell hath no fury like a record producer scorned." Jimmy continued, "So if you wanna be gagging on legal fees for the next 20 years….Exactly. You're welcome." He hung up and tossed the phone away. A woman was sitting at a table with mirror, "What is your damage? None of that stuff you said is true. We were both in the studio when they recorded "Horny Bunny." They're even helping me with my EP." Jimmy retorted, "Well, if you love them so much, why don't you go and join them?" The woman argued, "This isn't about sides, Jimmy. You need to call them back. You're better than this." Jimmy sighed, "You're right. I am. I'm better than you. I deserve better than you, better than all of this. Now get the hell out." The woman stormed off, but she stopped for a moment to look back, she glitched into the woman with the guitar again before glitching back, then walked out.
"So who is the woman with the guitar?" Chloe asked. "Jimmy's first love? Maybe his first client?" "I don't know," Lucifer answered. "But whoever she is, she hurt him. Rejected him. I think I see what's going on here." Jimmy turned around as he heard Lucifer, "Who are you? How'd you get in here?" Jimmy tried to back away, but Carlos commanded, "Don't move. Listen to what my dad is saying." Jimmy did as commanded as Lucifer said, "You're afraid of being abandoned, so you pushed her away before she could do it to you." Jimmy scoffed, "You don't get it. All anybody ever wants from me is what I can give them. Record deals, money, fame." "Or is that all you ever offer them?" Carlos countered. Lucifer added, "You're trying so hard to be what you think they desire, but that's not what's important, Jimmy. Tell me, what is it you truly desire?" Jimmy answered, "I don't want her to go." Lucifer sighed, "Well, then, for once, go after her." Jimmy nodded and turned around and walked out of the room.
Chloe looked over and whispered, "Lucifer, Carlos. Look." She pointed to a door as she walked over and opened it, revealing the hallways of Hell. Chloe sighed, "You did it. You helped him." "Did I?" Lucifer asked. Chloe shrugged, "Well, the door's back. That must mean Jimmy's fixed." Carlos could hear the voices of the damned souls from the hallway, but one voice was still ringing loudly in his ears. Carlos looked to where Jimmy ran off to, "He may be fixed, but this wasn't the source of his torment. It has to do with that woman with the guitar we keep seeing." "You're right, Carlos." "We don't know what's at the heart of his torment." Chloe asked, "You two really wanna see this through, huh?" Lucifer nodded, "I think I have to." Carlos nodded as well, "I agree. It's like Hell wants us to."
Lucifer took Chloe and Carlos' hands as the room shifted scenes to now they were in a motel room with a young Jimmy sitting on a bed watching Saturday morning cartoons. "Is that Jimmy?" Chloe asked. Carlos noticed the cartoon he was watching, "That cartoon he's watching. It matches the cartoon we were in." Lucifer realized, "This must be the heart of his torture." They saw the woman with the guitar come and sit next to Jimmy and Chloe realized, "Oh, she's his mother."
They heard Jimmy's mother say, "Just watch your cartoons, Jimmy, and everything will be fine. I'll be right back." She got up, picked up her guitar and a bag, and walked over to the door where a man was waiting and said, "He's only holding you back." Young Jimmy looked at his mother innocently, who closed the door behind her. The room shifted to represent a bunch of time moving forward. Chloe asked, "She never came back, did she? How long did he sit here? Hours? Days?" "Poor Jimmy," Lucifer said. "Indeed," Carlos agreed. "He felt so alone. I've seen it with kids on the Isle when they are abandoned by their parents. That feeling never goes away. Even Mal felt it as Hades abandoned her when he left her and her mother. At least they were able to make up."
They heard a knock on the door and a voice shout, "Child Protective Services!" The door burst open and two men walked in and dragged Jimmy to the door, causing the boy to scream, "Please! I can't leave! If I leave, my mom won't be able to fine me! She's coming back! Please! Don't!" Both Lucifer and Carlos felt anger rise in them and they both shouted, "Stop!" The two men froze as Jimmy broke loose and ran back to the bed to sit on it. "Wait," Chloe asked. "Who stopped them? Was it you, Lucifer? Do you have your control back? Or was it you, Carlos?" "I think," Lucifer answered. "It was both of us. I stopped the loop and Carlos stopped those men." Lucifer did a motion with his hand and rewound the loop so that the men disappeared. Carlos felt it in his head.
Lucifer walked over to Jimmy and said, "Jimmy. I can't get you out of Hell. Only you can do that. I'm not even sure if you deserve to get out of here after what you've done. But I know see the pain behind the terrible decisions that you made in life. Doesn't excuse them, but I understand them now." Carlos walked over and said, "Dad. The cartoons. They're his comfort. It's why he imagined them as his torture. They're a lifeline when he's scared." "So," Chloe asked. "What are you going to do, Lucifer?" Lucifer answered by waving his hand and rewinding the scene where his mother comes back in and sits next to Jimmy. When he was done, he said, "I came here to help you, Jimmy, and you told me your desire." "I don't want her to go," Chloe realized. Carlos nodded in agreement. Lucifer continued, "For the time being, this will have to suffice."
They all exit back to the hallway of Hell and Lucifer said, "We should go." Chloe sighed, "Lucifer, I know that was so hard. And honestly I cannot wait to get home. But first I have two questions. First, is Jimmy's mother here?" Carlos actually answered, "Yes, she is. I can feel her soul. And I feel her guilt. Over abandoning her son. She's been tortured by that guilt for a long time." Chloe nodded, then asked, "Second, can I see Dan? Please?" Lucifer nodded, "Of course. It's this way." He led Chloe and Carlos to Dan's door, but Carlos felt something off as they got closer.
Lucifer guided them inside as Chloe commented, "This is so eerie. Lucifer, are you all right?" Lucifer answered, "See, the whole point of this was to see if I could help someone that I hated. But the truth is, despite everything Jimmy Barnes did, I care about him now." "Sorry it didn't work out," Chloe replied. Lucifer shook his head, "No, no, no. That's just it. I mean, I thought it was a bad thing that I grew to like Carol, but maybe it's like you were saying. Maybe that was a good thing, as is this. Because if I can grow to like Jimmy Barnes, of all people…." "Then you can grow to care about anybody," Chloe realized. Lucifer continued, "And if I can carry about anyone, then I can help anyone." "So does this mean…." Chloe asked. Lucifer nodded, "I think so. Ironically, we're in Hell, and finally I'm ready to be God. So you were right. Carlos, you were…"
"Dad," Carlos had looked around the room when they entered and noticed something wasn't right. "I'm glad that you've finally had this epiphany, but there's a problem. Dan's not here. And I can't feel his soul in Hell." He showed Lucifer and Chloe the empty room and they were all confused.
Up at Lux, Maze was sitting at the bar drinking. Amenadiel walked over, "Maze, what were you thinking? You coulda screwed everything up for me!" Maze chuckled, "Hey, from what I could tell, I am the whole reason you passed that lame reverse-psychology test, so you're welcome." Amenadiel sighed, "All right, listen. Her methods aren't lame, OK? She has a high trainee dropout because she's actually because she's trying to find people who are in it for the right reasons." Maze shrugged, "Yeah, whatever, bro." Amenadiel asked, "Why would you think that I couldn't handle myself? Is that really how little you think of me?" Maze warned, "Don't lay your insecurities on me. I was trying to help you." Amenadiel demanded, "I asked you why, Mazikeen. Honestly, why do you even care?" "Because," Maze replied. "Because what?" Amenadiel asked. "Because you thought it would be funny? Because you thought I would fail?" "Because I'm your friend, Amenadiel!" Maze shouted. "And I'm sorry if I didn't go about it in the most ideal way or whatever. I was just trying…" "Thank you," Amenadiel interrupted. Maze sighed, "Like I said, you're welcome." Amenadiel said, "Mazikeen, I….Listen. This is important to me. Really important, you know, so, please just…." "OK," Maze interrupted. "I will not make fun of you. I promise." "I don't believe you," Amenadiel replied. Maze chuckled, "You shouldn't."
Meanwhile, Lucifer and Carlos had made their way to the elevator. They had both dropped Chloe off at her house and went up to Heaven to check for Dan. But he wasn't there. Carlos couldn't locate Dan in his mirror as Dan wasn't alive. Lucifer was on the phone with Chloe, "I checked the Silver City. He's not there. Look, don't worry. Daniel's out there somewhere. Carlos and I will find him. I promise, Chloe." He hung up and Carlos said, "OK. I'm going to contact Mal to get in touch with her dad. Hades is all about souls. I know he'll be able to locate Dan." The doors opened on the guest suite and Carlos got off while Lucifer stayed on to continue to the penthouse.
Dude ran over to Carlos, "Hey, Carlos. I stayed like you told me to." "Good," Carlos said. "How was Hell?" Dude asked. "Interesting," Carlos admitted. "It seems I have similar powers to my dad when I'm there. So that's new. Anything happen here?" "No, other than a woman talking up in the penthouse to herself," Dude admitted. Carlos was shocked, "Wait, what? Why didn't you tell me that when I got off the elevator?" Dude shrugged, "I don't know." "Is she still there?" Carlos asked. Dude nodded and Carlos realized, "Dad's going up there now. He might be in danger." He ran out on the balcony, unfurled his wings, and took off towards the penthouse, as the elevator wasn't fast enough.
Lucifer had meanwhile gotten off the elevator on the penthouse floor and saw Dan standing there, "Daniel. Carlos and I have been looking everywhere for you. What on earth are you doing on Earth?" Dan held up his hand, "Lucifer, watch out!" But the mystery woman charged right through him and grabbed Lucifer and shoved him to the nearby wall, unfurling her wings and holding Lucifer at knifepoint with her wings. She smirked, "Finally, after all these years I've spent hating you for what you did to me, finally I can have my revenge." Lucifer gulped, "OK. I have no idea who you are, so…You're not one of my siblings. Who are you?" The mystery woman shouted, "I'm your daughter!" Lucifer was shocked and thought, "What the Hell?"
