It felt good to come back home. I hopped out of the taxi with a little skip in my step, the luggage dropped on the sidewalk of our front yard as I bounded up to meet Bob.
"Honey!" he called, the kids trailing behind him.
"Oh, sweetie, I'm so happy to be home!" I exclaimed. I practically leapt into his warm embrace, gratefully pressing my lips against his. I could hear the kids groan beneath us at the sight.
"Did you have a good time? How were your parents?"
I dismissed him with a wave of my hand. "Oh, you know what visiting them is like. Boring, boring, boring. How were things here?"
He shrugged. "About the same. Right, kids?"
Violet agreed, nodding her head. "Totally dull. Really totally dull."
Dash pitched in as well. "Uh… yeah… I guess. Nothing going on around here."
Even little Jack-Jack gurgled in agreement.
Wow. Part of me was glad to hear it. Any time there wasn't anyone trying to attack the city or destroy my family was a relief. I knew I'd eventually have to tell them what really did go down while I was away, but for now, ignorance really is bliss. I was here with my husband and kids.
And it couldn't get better than this.
