Chapter 7 The Red Assassin:
Marcy panted as she ran towards the school.
'How did my alarm NOT go off!? Now, I'm late again!' she thought to herself.
She turned a corner and walked into class. Anne and Sasha looked at her surprised while most of the students were doing their own thing. Marcy quietly moved to the back of the class.
"Ms. Wu," a voice said.
Marcy cursed silently to herself and turned around. The math teacher stood behind her.
"You're late again,"she said.
Marcy grinned sheepishly.
"Einstein said time is relative, right? Maybe I'm not late. Maybe you guys are just early," she said.
Some of the students snickered. The teacher glared at her slightly.
"You being smart with me, young lady?" she asked.
Marcy gulped.
"N-no ma'am!" she said.
She sat down next to Anne. The teacher shook her head and resumed the lesson. As she did, Anne leaned towards Marcy.
"Why are you getting here so late?" she whispered.
Marcy was about to answer when the math teacher called on her.
"Ms. Wu, what is the answer when solving for 64x?" she asked.
"8x" Marcy answered.
The teacher nodded and turned back to the board.
"My alarm didn't go off and I couldn't ask Mark to drive me to school because he had to go to work," Marcy whispered back.
Anne nodded. It was a few minutes into class when Marcy's spider senses went off. Marcy blinked and looked around the room. She saw nothing that could've set her senses off.
'Is there something happening in the halls? My senses are going crazy,' she thought to herself.
Deciding that she should check it out, Marcy raised her hand. The teacher looked at her.
"Yes?" she asked.
"Can I go to the bathroom?" Marcy asked.
The teacher motioned for her to go. Marcy stood up and walked out of the classroom. She looked around the halls to see if there's anyone doing something.
"I guess there's nothing-"
*BANG!*
Marcy jumped when a gunshot went off and ran into the bathroom. She hid in a stall.
'There's no way that was a gunshot,' she thought to herself.
Just then the intercom came on.
"Attention students and faculty this is NOT a drill. I repeat this is not a drill. There are men in black clothing going around shooting students and teachers. Please keep all doors locked and remain in the rooms" the principal.
Marcy cursed when she heard that. She just hoped Anne and Sasha were safe. She heard the bathroom door being kicked open and held her breath. Marcy looked down and saw a pair of steel toed black boots. She jumped when she heard the stalls getting kicked in. Marcy started to form a plan as her stall door was kicked open. The goon blinked when he saw that the stall was empty.
"Psst!" a voice from above said.
The goon looked up to see someone dressed in a green and black suit.
"Sup," Marcy said.
She dropped down from the ceiling and punched the goon in the face knocking him out.
"One down. Probably a thousand more to go," she mumbled.
Her ears perked up when she heard a scream. Marcy ran out of the bathroom and ran down the hall. She stopped when she saw three more goons. They looked at her.
"Um…how's it going?" she asked.
They fired at her. Using her agility, Marcy dodged the bullets. She shot a web, swung over them and took their guns. The goons looked at each other surprised.
"Sorry, no guns allowed in school," she said.
She landed on her feet and used her webs to tie the goons up.
"Adios," she said.
She gave them a two fingered salute and ran off.
With Anne and Sasha:
Anne let out a sigh when her phone went to voicemail.
"Still no answer?" Sasha asked.
Anne shook her head. Maggie snorted.
"Five bucks says the nerd is already dead," she said.
Sasha glared at her.
"Shut the hell up Maggie!" she said.
Maggie rolled her eyes. Everyone went quiet as a loud banging sound was heard outside the door.
"Open up before I shoot through the window-!"
*THUD*
A soft knock was heard on the door.
"Can the teacher open the door?" the person asked.
The teacher hesitated before opening the door. Everyone gasped as the Calamity Spider walked in.
"No way!" one of the students murmured.
"The front and side entrances are locked. Take everyone out the window and go along the side of the school, there should be a police officer who will take you to the front of the school safely," she told the teacher.
She nodded and Marcy helped the students out the window. She was tapped on the shoulder and she turned around to look at Anne.
"There's still a girl somewhere in the school. Her name is Marcy Wu,is she okay?" she asked.
Marcy blinked.
"Uhhh…You don't have to worry about anything! She is perfectly safe. If she didn't come and get me, I wouldn't be here," she said.
Anne and Sasha smiled in relief. A gunshot went off making the class shout in fear.
"Out the window! Go, hurry!" Marcy said, ushering them out the window.
Once they were out, Marcy's earpiece started beeping. She pressed the button.
"What's up Terri?" she asked.
"Are you and everyone else okay? I just saw the news that there's some shooters in the school," she said.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I just got some of the students out of the school," Marcy said.
"Okay. I just hacked into the school's camera and there's some students being held in the cafeteria," Terri said.
Marcy nodded.
"Thanks Ter. I'm heading there now," she said, running out of the class.
She turned a corner and ran towards the cafeteria. When she got there, she came to a skidding stop as she ducked down. Marcy lifted her head, making sure no one saw her. She could see the students huddled together with about 4 to 5 goons guarding them. There was this one kid who was mumbling some prayers under his breath. One of the shooters put his gun up to the ceiling and started firing, making the students scream in fear.
"Shut up before I fill everyone's head with lead!" he shouted.
One of the seniors glared at him.
"You're the one with guns shooting innocent kids," he said.
Marcy watched as one of the goons aimed their gun at him. The boy went silent as he glared up at them.
"Just shoot that one. It'll keep his mouth shut," another one said.
Before he could, a loud voice rang out through the cafeteria.
"That's enough!"
Marcy watched as someone walked out of the shadows. They were wearing a black skin tight suit with red claw marks running across their chest, arms and back, a black helmet with a red stripe going down the back, dark red gloves with retractable blades,a belt around their waist holding two pistols and black steel toed boots. Judging by the voice, it was a male.
'He must be the leader,' Marcy thought to herself.
The goons bowed their heads.
"Sorry sir," one of them mumbled.
The leader snorted and looked at the senior. The kid looked at him with fearful eyes but tried to mask his fear. The leader picked him up by his shirt.
"Let this be a lesson kids. This is what happens when you run your mouth without thinking," he said.
A blade slipped out of one of his gloves. Before he could slice the kid's head off, the leader was punched in the face by an unknown force. He staggered back. Marcy turned visible as she glared at the leader.
"And that's what happens when you pick on people who can't defend themselves," she said.
The leader narrowed his eyes. Marcy turned to the senior.
"Get everyone else out of here. There's police outside the front," she said.
The boy nodded and led the other kids out of the school. The goons aimed their guns at Marcy. The leader stood in front of them.
"So, you're this Calamity Spider?" he asked.
Marcy folded her arms.
"What's it to ya?" she asked.
"I'm the Red Assassin. It's only appropriate that we know each other's names if we're going to see each other in the near future," the Red Assassin said.
He pulled a circular object out of his pocket and threw it on the ground. Marcy coughed as the smoke cleared.
'They got away!?' she thought to herself.
She groaned.
"Is anyone in there?" a voice asked.
Marcy climbed out of a window and ran towards an alleyway. She changed out of her suit and stuffed it into her bag. Marcy threw her bag over her shoulder and walked out of the alleyway.
"Marcy!" a voice shouted.
Marcy turned and grunted when she was nearly knocked down by two bodies ramming into her. She managed to keep her balance as she hugged Anne and Sasha back.
"Give me a warning before you two decide to tackle me," she said.
The two older girls pulled out of the hug.
"Where have you been? We thought something happened," Anne said.
Marcy scratched her neck.
"I had to sneak out of the window after hearing the announcement. One of the goons saw me but I got away before they could get me," she said.
Anne hugged her tightly.
"I'm just glad you're okay," she said.
Marcy hugged her back. They pulled back and blushed when they locked eyes. Sasha smirked.
"If you love birds are about to kiss, go somewhere else," she teased.
Anne and Marcy's face turned dark red though Marcy's was out of anger rather than embarrassment.
"Sash!" she shouted.
Sasha laughed as she took off running with Marcy behind her. Anne shook her head as Mark walked towards her. The older boy raised an eyebrow as he watched Marcy chase after Sasha.
"Do I even want to know?" he asked.
Anne shook her head. Sasha yelped as Marcy tackled her. They wrestled as Marcy pulled Sasha down and pinned her to the ground. Anne was trying not to laugh. Mark shook his head.
"Marcy, don't kill her!" Mark shouted.
"No promises!" she shouted back.
Sasha grunted as she tried to get out of Marcy's grip.
"Okay! I give!" she shouted.
Marcy shook her head.
"Nope! You have to tap out," she said.
Sasha groaned and tapped the ground. Marcy grinned triumphantly and released her hold on Sasha. The blonde girl rubbed her shoulders.
"When did you get strong?" Sasha asked.
Marcy shrugged.
"Since school was let out early, who wants pizza?" Mark asked.
"Me! Last one there has to pay!" Marcy said, running off.
Sasha and Anne took off after her. Mark sighed and ran after them. Marcy was the first one to get there.
"Winner!" she cheered.
Sasha and Anne caught up to her.
"I'm starting to hate your growth spurt," Sasha grumbled as Mark caught up to them.
"You're paying Mark," Marcy said.
The older boy gave her a glare as he opened the door.
"I hate you," he muttered.
Marcy gave him a grin.
"Love you too big brother," she said.
Mark shook his head and followed them inside.
