Chapter 10 Two Secrets,Too Many:

Marcy is hiding something. Anne doesn't see it but Sasha sure as hell did. She keeps making up excuses to leave, whenever something goes wrong in the city, she leaves and then comes back right after the Calamity Spider leaves. She was going to get to the bottom of this. Marcy yawned as she opened her locker. She didn't get much sleep because of last night's events. She was still confused on why Mark took a limo to that place.

'Was Mark even there? Is he working for Andrias?' Marcy thought to herself.

She shook that thought away. There was no way Mark would work with someone like Andrias. Then again, he nearly burned the science lab down because he mixed the wrong chemicals a few weeks ago. Marcy felt someone behind her and closed her eyes in amusement.

"Don't even think about it, Waybright" she said.

The blonde girl blinked as she put her hands down.

"How'd you know it was me?" she asked.

Marcy gave her a sideways glance.

"I've been friends with you since kindergarten. I know when you're going to sneak up on me," she said.

Sasha huffed as she leaned against the lockers.

"You're no fun," she mumbled.

Marcy laughed as she closed her locker door. The two girls walked to class.

"Hey, Anne and I were going to head to Thai Go after school. Are you coming?" Sasha asked.

Marcy blinked. She was supposed to go out and patrol the city but if she can do that first, she'll probably get there before 7.

"Umm…Sure! I have a few things to do at home first so I'll probably be there late," she said.

Sasha nodded and walked to her 5th period class. Marcy ran a hand through her hair. Another day, another lie. She wished she could just tell her friends the truth but she knows it'll just put them in danger.

'It's not easy being a nighttime vigilante,' she thought to herself.

Marcy sighed and walked to class.

Timeskip to the Arcade:

Sasha let out a huff in annoyance when her phone went to voicemail again. Anne looked at her.

"She still didn't answer?" Anne asked.

Sasha shook her head.

"She said she'll be late but I didn't think she'd be this late," Sasha said.

The bell on the door rang as Marcy ran in, out of breath.

"Sorry…I'm late," she huffed.

Marcy sat down next to Sasha.

"What took you so long? Your house isn't even that far from here" Sasha said.

Marcy rubbed her head.

"Mom asked me to go to the laundromat and there was traffic when I got out," Marcy said.

Anne and Sasha raised an eyebrow.

"You ran here," Anne said.

"Actually I biked here," Marcy countered.

Sasha gave her an unconvinced look. She knew Marcy was lying but she also knew that when it comes to speaking what's on her mind, Marcy was stubborn as hell.

"Hey Marcy, can you get some napkins from the bathroom?" she asked.

The younger girl looked at her before getting up and walking to the bathroom. Anne watched Marcy go into the bathroom before turning to the older girl.

"What are you doing, Sash?" she asked.

"You don't actually believe that excuse right?" the blonde girl asked.

Anne blinked at the question.

"No but what if she's telling the truth?" she asked.

Sasha shook her head.

"But that's just like every other excuse she used. Marcy's hiding something," she said.

Anne gave her a blank look.

"What could that be?" she asked.

Sasha looked around before leaning in.

"Marcy's the Calamity Spider," she whispered.

Anne stood there blinking.

"Marcy? Our Marcy? Sorry Sash but there's no way Marcy could be the Calamity Spider. What even gave you that idea?" Anne asked.

"Think about it, everytime Marcy's gone, the Calamity Spider shows up and everytime the Calamity Spider leaves she comes back," Sasha countered.

Anne bit the inside of her cheek.

"That could be a coincidence," she said.

"But we never see them in the same place, at the same time. That can't be a coincidence," Sasha said.

Anne rubbed her neck.

"Even if she is the Calamity Spider, I don't think she'd want us to meddle into her business," Anne said.

Sasha opened her mouth to say something but closed her mouth with a slightly pissed look. She grabbed her bag.

"I'm heading home but I'm telling you, Marcy's hiding something" she said.

Sasha walked out of the diner as Marcy came back. The black haired girl blinked as she watched Sasha walk down the street. She turned to Anne.

"Did I miss something?" she asked.

Anne shook her head.

"Nothing important," she said.

Marcy nodded. Her phone vibrated. Pulling it out, she saw a text from Mark.

"I need to get home to help Mark with something," she said.

Marcy grabbed her stuff.

"See you at school, Anna-Banana," she called over her shoulder.

Anne waved at her as she sighed. Marcy rushed home, knowing that if she didn't get there quickly, Mark was going to drag her there himself. She opened the door to her house.

"Mark?" she asked.

"I'm in the garage!" she heard her brother shout.

Marcy walked to the garage and saw her brother laying on the ground fixing a car.

"You said you need help with something?" she asked.

Mark moved out from underneath the car.

"I need you to change the battery," he said, handing a wrench to his sister.

Marcy grabbed it and popped the hood of the car. She used the wrench to get the battery loose. Mark walked over and took the battery out. He placed it on the counter and handed the new one to Marcy. The younger girl grunted as she took the battery and placed it in the car. She tightened the battery into place. Mark closed the hood.

"Alright, let's see if it works," Mark said.

He grabbed the keys and climbed inside in the driver's seat. He puts the key in and turns the ignition on. The car turns over before roaring to life. Marcy gave him thumbs. Mark nodded and turned the car off.

"Ok, I'm going to call the twins and tell them to come pick the car up tonight," he said.

Marcy nodded as Mark climbed out of the car.

"Hey Mark," she said.

"Hmm?" he asked.

"What were you doing last night?" she asked.

Mark blinked and scratched his head.

"I was at Ken's house helping him with his biology homework," he said.

He looked at his sister.

"Why'd you ask?" he asked.

Marcy shrugged.

"I was just wondering since you got home late and I was a bit worried," she said.

Mark smiled and ruffled his little sister's hair.

"You have nothing to worry about. Even if something bad happened to me, you know I won't be gone forever," he said, grinning.

Marcy was annoyed about her hair getting messed up but smiled at him.

"Promise?" she asked.

Mark gave her a soft smile.

"Yeah, Wu siblings stick together," Mark said.

Marcy nodded. A beeping sound was heard and Marcy grabbed her phone.

"Um…I just remembered, Terri asked me to help her with her astronomy project," she said.

Mark raised an eyebrow.

"In the middle of the night?" he asked.

Marcy looked outside.

"Yeah! It's astronomy so…It's required to be at night," Marcy said.

Mark narrowed his eyes before shrugging.

"Okay, don't get home late otherwise Mom's going to ground both of us," Mark said.

Marcy gave him a thumbs up and ran out of the house. She pulled her earpiece out and put it in her ear.

"What's going on Ter?" she asked.

"There's a robbery over on 45th street. I have a feeling Red's involved," Terri said.

"Okay, I'm right by there," Marcy said.

She shot a web and swung towards the city.

"Hey, are you feeling okay from what happened last night?" Terri asked.

Marcy landed on top of a lamppost.

"I'm fine. Mark isn't working for Andrias. Speaking of which, we should probably figure out what Andrias is planning," she said.

"I'm already hacking into the systems. I'll let you know when I get something," Terri said.

Marcy nodded and turned her earpiece off.

"Hey, Calamity Spider!" a voice called.

Marcy looked down and saw the fire department chief. She jumped down and landed in front of her.

"What's the problem chief?" she asked.

"The chef fell asleep on the stove. We managed to get most of the customers out but I think there's two more people in there," she said.

Marcy nodded.

"I'm going in," she said.

Marcy ran into the burning building. She pulled a flashlight out and carefully moved through the burning bakery.

"Hey, is anyone here?" she called.

"Help! Please help!" a voice called.

Marcy turned towards it.

"I can hear you, where are you?" she asked.

"The back room. Please hurry!" the voice said.

Marcy ran towards the back of the bakery. She saw a girl around who looked to be 10 or 11. In her arms, she held a boy who looked to be 7 or 8. The girl looked at Marcy with pleading eyes.

"Please help! My brother, he isn't waking up," she cried.

Marcy bent down next to her. She placed two fingers on the boy's neck. She can feel a small thumping against her fingers. Weak but still there. Marcy looked at the girl.

"I'm gonna get you two out of here," she said.

Marcy lifted the boy into her arms and picked the girl up as well. The building began to crumble. The girl screamed and buried her face into Marcy's neck. Marcy carefully ran through the burning building, A whistling filled her ears and Marcy turned to see the boiler overheating. Marcy's eyes widened and she ran out of the bakery.

"Everyone hit the dirt!" she shouted as she ran towards the group.

The group of people took cover as the bakery exploded. Marcy used her body to shield the girl and her brother from the explosion. Looking over her shoulder, Marcy saw that the bakery was gone. She let out a breath she didn't know she was holding as the fire marshall walked towards her. Marcy stood up with the little boy in her arms.

"He's been unconscious for a while, I think he inhaled some smoke," she said.

The fire marshall nodded and took the boy into his arms and held the little girl's hand.

"Their parents have already been called, they'll meet at the hospital," he said.

Marcy nodded and the fire marshall took the two siblings towards the ambulance. Marcy shot a web and swung home. She landed outside of her house. Marcy stuffed her suit into her bag. She threw it over her shoulder and climbed the side of her house. Marcy opened the window to her room and climbed inside. As she turned to close the window, her room light was turned on. Marcy let out a small shriek and turned to see Sasha leaning against her room door.

"Why are you getting home so late?" Sasha asked.

Marcy folded her arms.

"Why are you in my room in the middle of the night, huh?" she shot back, trying to change the subject.

Sasha stepped forward and pinched the tip of Marcy's ear between her forefinger and thumb. Marcy yelped.

"Ow! Sash!" she squeaked.

"Don't change the subject and answer the question," Sasha said.

She released Marcy's ear. Marcy rubbed her ear. Sasha folded her arms, waiting for Marcy to speak. Marcy sat down at her desk.

"I was helping Terri with her astronomy project," she said.

Sasha raised an eyebrow.

"In the middle of the night?" she asked.

Marcy nodded as she fiddled with her sleeves

"Yep, it's astronomy so it has to be at night," she said.

Sasha nodded.

"Funny how you say that because I went to Terri's before coming here," she said.

Marcy looked at her as Sasha placed her hands on the desk behind her.

"Nobody was awake," Sasha said, looking Marcy in the eye.

Marcy gulped.

'Thanks for throwing me under the bus,Terri' she thought to herself.

Sasha smelt something and leaned towards Marcy's head. The younger girl froze when she felt Sasha smelling her hair.

"Um…whatcha doing Sasha?" she asked.

"You know, the Calamity Spider saved some people from a burning bakery," Sasha said.

Marcy pretended to be surprised.

"Really? No way," she said.

"And your hair smells like smoke," Sasha said.

Marcy began to sweat nervously.

"Um…I," she began.

Sasha sighed and stood up.

"Marcy, I'm not going to force it out of you. I'm just getting worried about you," she said.

Marcy looked at the ground. Sasha shook her head and moved to leave her room.

"Sash," Marcy called.

Sasha looked at her. Marcy ran a hand through her hair as she stood up.

"If I tell you, you have to promise not to tell anyone. Not our parents, our friends or Anne," Marcy said.

Sasha nodded.

"I promise," she said.

Marcy took a breath.

"I'm the Calamity Spider," she said.

She looked at Sasha who looked strangely calm.

"You aren't going to say anything?" she asked.

Sasha shrugged.

"I kind of had a hunch," she said.

Marcy's jaw dropped.

"Wait what?!" she exclaimed.

Sasha nodded.

"How did you know?" she asked.

Sasha gave her a smile.

"I've been friends with you since kindergarten. I can tell when you're lying," she said.

Marcy sheepishly rubbed her neck.

"Right. So you're not mad that I've been lying to you?" she asked.

Sasha shook her head.

"You had a reason but why do you want me not to tell Anne?" she asked.

Marcy sighed.

"Believe me the last thing I want to do is leave Anne out of this but I don't want to put her and the Planters in danger," Marcy said.

Sasha nodded.

"Okay, but be careful, I don't want to be the one telling Yunnan and Olivia why their daughter died," Sasha said.

Marcy chuckled.

"I will. Do you want to stay the night?" she asked.

Sasha shook her head.

"Nah, Grime already knows I'm out late so I can just walk home," Sasha said.

Marcy nodded as Sasha walked towards the window.

"Get home safe," she said.

Sasha gave her a two fingered salute before cimbing out the window. Marcy watched her walk down the street before closing the window. She plopped down on her bed. She'd take a shower in the morning, right now, she just wanted to sleep.
