Chapter 11 Date Night:
"Come on Mar-Mar! The worst thing she could do is say no!" Sasha said to her younger friend.
Marcy gave the older girl a small glare.
"That's exactly why I can't ask her!" she said.
Terri and Mark walked towards them.
"Can't ask who what?" asked Mark.
Sasha turned to them.
"Marcy's worried that if she asks Anne on a date it'll ruin their friendship," Sasha said.
Terri raised an eyebrow.
"Haven't you two been friends since diapers?" she asked.
"That's what I'm saying! That's 14 years of a bond! One wrong move and that bond is gone," Marcy said.
Mark placed his hands on her shoulders. Marcy looked at her brother with tearful eyes.
"Hey, you've had a crush on Anne since 6th grade. And this could be your last chance to ask her out. Are you really going to let your fear get in the way of that?" he asked.
Marcy shook her head.
"Then go ask her out! We'll be here with you, right Ter and Sash?" he asked.
The two girls nodded and smiled. That put Marcy's mind at ease as she took a breath.
"Okay, I can do this," she said.
Mark squeezed her shoulder in encouragement. Marcy walked towards Anne who was sitting on the bleachers. She looked at her brother and two friends. They gave her thumbs up. Marcy nodded and walked towards Anne.
"Hey Anne," she said.
Anne looked up at her and smiled.
"Hey Marce, what's up?" she asked, standing up.
Marcy rubbed her neck.
"I-I was asking if you were doing something tonight?" she asked.
Anne blinked.
"Not really. Why'd ya ask?" Anne questioned.
'Okay Marcy, you can do it?' she thought to herself.
She took a breath.
"I was wondering if you wanted to hang out tonight?" she asked.
Anne smiled.
"Sure, I'll get Sasha," Anne said.
She turned to walk away but was stopped by Marcy grabbing her hand. Anne looked at her. Marcy looked nervous as a blush covered her face and the tips of her ears.
"I mean like just you and me," she said.
Anne blinked before blushing.
"You mean like a date?" she asked.
Marcy nodded.
"Yeah, that is…if you want to," she said.
Anne smiled shyly.
"Yeah, I'd like to," she said.
Marcy blinked before grinning.
"Really?" she asked.
Anne smiled before stepping back.
"Pick me up at 9?" she asked.
Marcy smiled.
"Sure," she said.
"Then it's a date. See ya tonight," Anne said.
She walked away. Marcy fist pumped the air as she cheered. Sasha and Terri high fived as Mark smiled, feeling proud of his little sister.
Timeskip to the night:
Sasha was sitting on the couch of Marcy's living room, looking through her phone while Terri was reading a book.
"So, how do I look?" Marcy asked.
The two girls looked up at her. Marcy stood at the steps. She was wearing a green tuxedo,a black button up shirt under, a green tie and a pair of black dress shoes. Her hair was combed to the side so it wouldn't cover her face. Sasha whistled.
"Looking good Mar-Mar," she said.
Marcy smiled but still felt a bit nervous. Sasha frowned.
"Hey, you okay? Your eyes are glowing green," Sasha said.
And she was right. Marcy's eyes were no longer their normal brown color instead they were dark green. The black haired girl closed her eyes before calming down a bit. When she opened them, her eyes were brown again.
"I don't know. I mean this is my first time going on a date. How do I know I won't mess this up?" Marcy asked.
Sasha placed a hand on her shoulder.
"You won't. Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith," She assured her.
Marcy smiled.
"Thanks Sash," she said.
Sasha nodded.
"You should get going," Terri said.
Marcy nodded and walked out of the house.
"Wish me luck," she called over her shoulder.
She walked towards the Planters' house. Marcy fixed her tie before knocking on the door. The door opened revealing a 11 year old boy Marcy knew as Sprig.
"Marcy!" the little boy exclaimed, hugging her around the waist.
Marcy laughed and ruffled his hair.
"Hey Sprig," she said.
Sprig gave her a toothy grin before stepping back.
"Hey Hop Pop," Marcy said to the elderly man.
Hop Pop gave her a smile.
"Heya Marcy, how're ya today?" he asked.
Marcy rubbed her neck.
"As good as I'll ever be," she said.
Hop Pop hummed. Marcy pulled her phone out as she waited for Anne.
"Okay, I'm ready," she heard Anne say.
Marcy turned and her eyes widened. Anne was wearing a sleeveless blue shirt, a blue skirt and a pair of blue sandals. Her hair was pulled back with a blue scrunchie. Marcy's face heated up.
'How can someone be this cute?!' she thought to herself.
She rubbed her neck.
"I-I…wow! Anne, you look amazing," she said.
Anne smiled.
"Thanks Marce, you too" she said.
Marcy rubbed her neck.
"Thanks. You ready to go?" she asked.
Anne nodded and the two girls bid the Planters goodbye as they walked out.
"Don't come home late!" Hop Pop shouted after them.
"Yes sir!" Marcy shouted back, giving him a salute.
Anne giggled as Hop Pop shook his head and closed the door. The two teens walked on the sidewalk.
"So, where are we going?" Anne asked.
"Some Italian restaurant Mark took Peni on their first date," Marcy answered.
Anne nodded. She looked at Marcy who looked nervous as heck. She frowned and grabbed her hand.
"Hey, you okay?" she asked.
Marcy looked at her.
"Yeah, why?" she asked.
Anne shrugged.
"It's just you looked kind of nervous," she said.
Marcy rubbed her neck. She prayed that her eyes weren't glowing green or else Anne's going to have some questions.
"Yeah, I kind of am considering this is my first date ever," she mumbled.
Anne squeezed her hand.
"Trust me, you aren't alone but let's make this a fun night," she said, smiling at Marcy.
Marcy blushed but smiled.
"Right," she said.
She laced their fingers together as they walked to the restaurant.
Timeskip because I'm lazy :)
Marcy and Anne laughed as they walked down the sidewalk hand in hand. The black haired girl was telling her about a prank she did on Mark a few days ago.
"I can't believe you actually did that to Mark! Was he mad?" she asked.
Marcy chuckled.
"Mad? More like extremely pissed! He tackled me down the hill and then we both got in trouble with Mom," she said.
Anne laughed.
"Man, having an older sibling must be fun," Anne said.
Marcy nodded.
"It can be a pain at times but it's still good to know there's always someone there for you," Marcy said.
Anne nodded as she laid her head on Marcy's shoulder. The taller girl tensed a bit before relaxing. They walked in a comfortable silence before Marcy felt her "spider senses" go off.
"Hey Beautiful," a voice said.
Marcy and Anne looked to see five males in front of them. They looked like college students. Anne could feel Marcy tensing up beside her.
"Do you fellas need anything?" Marcy asked, trying to keep a cool head.
One of them looked towards Anne, making the brown haired girl shiver and move closer to Marcy.
"How about we give you two a ride home?" one of them said, a glint in his eyes.
Anne looked towards Marcy. She had a calm look on her face but her jaw was clenched and her shoulders were bunched and tensed.
"No thanks, we're more than capable of walking," Marcy said.
She needed to get Anne out of here before things could go wrong. She and Anne turned to walk away but one of the males grabbed Anne's wrist, making her cry out in pain at the tight grip. Marcy turned and punched the creep in the face, sending him to the ground. She grabbed Anne's hand and they took off running. The male on the ground held his face and growled.
"Get them!" he shouted.
They ran after the two girls. Marcy and Anne ran down the street.
"We might have to split up. They can't chase both of us," Marcy said.
Anne looked uncertain.
"Just trust me," Marcy said.
Anne nodded and they went their separate ways. Marcy turned into an empty parking lot as two of the goons followed her. Marcy looked at them.
"Got nowhere to run, little girl," one of them snarled.
Marcy got into a fighting stance.
"Maybe so. But I'm not going down without a fight," she said.
A thunderclap was heard as it began to rain. The tallest of the goons ran at her. Marcy grabbed his fist and punched him in the stomach. The goon doubled over holding his stomach. Marcy twisted his arm and sent a knee into his face. The goon fell to the ground, unconscious. She looked towards the other one. The goon ran at her and swung his fist. Marcy grabbed his arm, twisted it and threw him over her shoulder into a wall. Marcy panted as she calmed down a bit. She then heard a shriek.
'Anne' Marcy thought.
She climbed atop of a building and ran towards where she heard her scream while also changing into her suit which she wore under her tux.
"Help!" a voice cried out.
Marcy looked down to see Anne get pushed against the wall. Not caring that she wasn't wearing her mask, Marcy jumped down from the building and landed in the alleyway. She shot two webs and pulled two of the goons back. Marcy roundhouse kicked them in the face sending them flying into a garbage can. The leader growled and released Anne. The goon ran at Marcy. The black haired girl dodged all of his attacks before sending a hard punch into his stomach. She grabbed him by his collar and threw him into a wall. Anne took a few breaths before calming down and walking towards Marcy.
"Hey," she began.
Marcy took off down an alley. Anne ran to follow her but saw that she wasn't there. Unbeknownst to her, Marcy was hanging upside down from a web as she lowered herself behind Anne.
"You have a knack of getting into trouble ," she said.
Anne jumped before turning around to see the Calamity Spider. She folded her arms.
"And you have a knack of knowing when I'm in trouble. Looks like I have a guardian angel," Anne said.
Marcy chuckled.
"S' no big deal. I was just in the neighborhood and I just happened to see those jerks grab you," she said.
"Still, you saved my life. I should at least thank you," Anne said.
Marcy blinked.
"Um, but you already did remember? The carnival," she said.
Anne shook her head, smiling.
"I mean properly," she said.
'Oh' Marcy thought.
Anne stepped forward and reached up to pull her mask down. Marcy grabbed her hand.
"Wait," she said.
Anne looked at her. She pulled Marcy's mask up so her lips were visible. Anne stood on her toes and pressed her lips against Marcy's. Marcy was shocked but still kissed her back. They stayed that way until Anne pulled back for air. She moved to pull Marcy's mask down. Marcy shot a web and took off into the night sky. Anne stood there. Okay, that happened. Anne walked out of the alleyway and walked to her neighborhood. She saw Marcy sitting on the porch worriedly looking at her phone.
"Marcy!" she called.
Marcy looked and smiled in relief as Anne ran towards her. They embraced one another. Anne pulled back to look at Marcy.
"You're not hurt are you?" she asked.
Marcy shook her head.
"A bit bruised but other than that I'm fine. What about you?" Marcy asked.
"I'm fine,I'm fine," she said.
Marcy was relieved but couldn't help but feel guilty.
"Sorry that tonight was a bust," she said, rubbing her neck.
Anne smiled.
"It's okay. Tonight was fun except for those creeps messing with us," she said.
Marcy laughed slightly as she rubbed her neck.
"Let's just hope this doesn't happen again," Anne said.
Marcy blinked.
"Again? You mean a second date?" she asked.
Anne blushed and smiled.
"If that's okay with you," she said.
Marcy smiled and nodded. Anne smiled and reached for the door before stopping. Anne turned to Marcy and smiled. She walked towards her. Her fingers trails up her arm before she leaned in and kissed Marcy's cheek. Marcy's eyes went wide as her face turned red. Anne walked towards the door.
"Night Marce," she said, closing the door behind her.
Marcy placed a hand on her cheek and grinned goofily.
"Night," she said.
Marcy walked back home with her hands behind her head. Not only did she get two kisses from the girl she likes, she's got another date. As she walked into her, Marcy's phone vibrated and she pulled it out to see a text from Terri.
'I've got something on Andrias. Come to my house tomorrow,'
Marcy huffed and plopped down on her bed.
'This isn't going to get any easier' she thought to herself.
And boy was she right.
