Chapter 13 Lies:
(A/N: Short chapter because I'm trying to put more focus on the fourteenth chapter)
"There's a zombie behind you!" Marcy shouted.
Mark quickly reloaded his gun. He aimed at the zombie rushing towards him and shot it in the head.
"Headshot, twenty points!" he cheered.
The two siblings were in the basement playing "Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies". Marcy's tongue stuck out at the corner of her mouth as they moved towards a building.
"It seems quiet here," Mark said.
"A little too quiet," the youngest of the two said.
She moved her character towards one side of the building. Her eyes widened when she saw a bomb.
"Mark, run!" she shouted.
But her shout came too late and the bomb exploded, killing both of them.
'You Died!'
The two siblings looked at each other before laughing.
"How does that even happen?" Mark asked.
Marcy shrugged. Mark's phone vibrated and he grabbed it. He saw a message from an unknown caller and frowned.
"Sorry little sister but I have to get to work," he said, getting up.
Marcy looked at him in confusion.
"The diner isn't open until 7. It's 4:30," Marcy said.
Mark rubbed his neck.
"Erm…Mr. G wanted all employees to come in early so I have to get going," Mark said.
Marcy looked at him with an unconvinced look.
"Are you sure?" she asked.
Mark gave her a smile.
"Would I ever lie to my favorite little sister?" he asked, ruffling her hair.
Marcy raised an eyebrow.
"I'm your only younger sister," she said.
Mark shrugged.
"But if I had another one, you'd be my favorite," he said.
Marcy rolled her eyes. Mark laughed and grabbed his keys.
"Don't wait up," he said, walking out.
Marcy huffed and folded her arms. She knows he's lying but she can't go around assuming things.
'Especially if it's my brother. The last thing I want to do is make him think I don't trust him,' Marcy thought to herself.
Marcy sighed and walked upstairs to get something to eat. Some mint chocolate chip ice cream sounds good. Marcy walked to the freezer and opened it to see an empty tub of ice cream inside. Marcy's eyebrow twitched in annoyance.
"Who keeps leaving empty ice cream containers in the freezer!?" she shouted.
"Marcy, don't shout in the house," Yunan said, poking her head into the kitchen.
Marcy rubbed her neck.
"Sorry, Ma," she said.
Yunana nodded and walked out of the kitchen. Marcy closed the refrigerator door and walked into the living room and plopped down on the couch, her head resting on Yunan's lap. Yunan ran her fingers through her daughter's hair as she read her book. Marcy closed her eyes. Just as she was about to fall asleep, her phone started ringing. Marcy grumbled and pulled her phone out.
"Hello?" she asked.
"Hey Marcy it's Kenny, is Mark home?" he asked.
Marcy blinked.
"I thought he was at work? He said that Mr. Gregory called the employees in early," Marcy said.
"What? I did get any word about that. The opening time is still the same," Ken said.
Marcy nodded and hung up. Yunan looked at her daughter.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"Mark said he had to go to work early but Ken said the opening time is still the same. Why did Mark lie?" Marcy asked.
Yunan sighed.
"I don't know why he lied but I'm sure he has a reason," Yunan said.
Marcy looked at her with a doubtful expression. Yunan ruffled her hair.
"Hey, your brother is smarter than you think, if he's in a tough situation, he'll get himself out," she said.
Marcy nodded. Though she is still skeptical.. Why would Mark lie about a time change?
(A/N: Again sorry for the short chapter, I promise the fourteenth chapter will knock your socks off)
