I am a Human
Trees swayed in the rhythm of the wind. A sparrow encircled the canopies and tops, singing a song. San looked up and sighed.
"Is something the matter?" asked a lazy Gosho.
"Nothing...I-I'm fine...fine!"
"Are you afraid?"
"Of what?"
"Of him"
"Of him-! You..!"
"Concede. We both know it, and it is a matter of time before his elk and him come and trample the grass beneath our feet. Don't hold yourself, love him as you would, because you are a human."
"Nice speech brother but who ever said I was a human?"
Gosho sighed, "You were found cold, alone, bruised and battered, left behind by your human parents...Mother would be laughing at the fact that you said you were not a human. From the beginning she already knew that no matter how you or she herself considered you as a wolf...deep down, you still are a human. So don't complain, accept it. And he's already here, so don't blush."
"Ashi...!" A pair of human hands touched her shoulder, sending shivers down her spine that she would have never felt before.
What's wrong with me? Am I not the princess of the Forest? Why then am I like this?
"San."
Ashitaka gently shook San's shoulder, rousing her from her thoughts.
"A-ashi...taka"
"Shh...today is a beautiful day.
"Y-yeah."
How could I let my guard down?
"Are you okay? You soun-"
"I'm FINE" she breathed, catching herself and trying to compose herself.
"Ok, ok. Calm down"
A silence ensued. San was absolutely breathless and her heart pounded like ten thousand drums. And then everything stopped.
"Come, San, I'll show you something."
"Ah?" There was no time to consider because right after that a strong arm grabbed her and pulled her into mystery.
The two made their way into young forestry, amidst chirping birds and singing insects.
The two wandered for a while, with San following along at an unflattering pace, her mind thinking, What's there he's got to show me? Pretty sure I know my way around this place. At the very least she was correct. But when he turned into a corner that she'd never seen or been to before, she gave up and followed.
"We're here San."
"Oh?"
And what she saw was just...beyond her imagination. Or at least what was beyond her wolfish imagination.
