Wolf stood stoic and serious as his clothes continued to be drenched in icicle temperature rainwater. The rest of K-Unit sat around him, in muddied grass puddles or darkened wood benches with water hanging on as long as they could on the bottom of each space between the long pieces of wood. Then they slowly dropped off, invisible in the grass.
"What's the plan now?" he bit out. It tasted bitter in his mouth, almost like admitting defeat did.
Snake looked up from his spot on the ground, and he slowly looked at the park around them. It must have been odd to see three grown men-soldiers- sitting in the pouring rain at a playground. But they had nowhere else to go, not wanting to return to the house. SCORPIA knew they were onto them, and they had ambushed them once. It could happen again. And the place where they lived with Cub was just…. Empty without him. No matter how short the time had gone by.
"We have to rescue them," Snake said.
Wolf and Tom snorted in unison, the no, duh, Sherlock, look.
"Of course we do!" cried Tom, suddenly standing and pacing. He was upset again, and the team felt a pang of sympathy for the kid. His best friend was just captured by a reinging terrorist group that killed Alex's whole family, after all.
"Exactly," Eagle put in, before Tom could panic any further. He moved to put a strong hand on Tom's shoulder. "So let's plan. Again. We can't go home, but we can't just sit here like babies in the rain." With this, he looked at the rest of K-Unit. Tom managed a smirk at the thought of Eagle calling his unit a group of babies.
Snake managed a laugh. "That sounded awfully serious for you, Eagle."
Eagle rolled his eyes but the tension had lightened. It was pretty serious, despite a serious situation. At least for Eagle. Only Eagle.
"Exactly," he repeated, emphasizing with wild hands- there we go, Snake thought. "So let's focus. Fox said he had an idea- a plan. Then he gets captured. What was it?"
Snake shrugged. "Who knows. Idiot probably just got himself killed."
"Don't say that," Wolf growled. "Fox is going to be fine."
Snake stood up angrily. "Maybe under normal circumstances! This is SCORPIA, Wolf. If they're not all dead already, they will be before we can get to them."
Wolf rushed towards Snake, grabbing his collar roughly, leaving Tom and Eagle watching awkwardly. "We'll get them, then. SCORPIA doesn't just kill off their prisoners, Snake. They make points to prove they have control. They inflict pain, they don't give them the easy way out."
Snake exhaled, deflating like a balloon. "Yeah," he muttered. "I guess so."
Wolf stood back and straightened out Snake's shirt where he had grabbed. "You're good, man. We're all on edge. Just don't do it again, right?"
Snake shook his head like he was shaking off his freak out. Luckily, Wolf took that and left it be. He used one hand to wipe off rainwater from his face, and moved to sit back on the bench.
"So what was the plan?" Tom asked, motioning for Eagle to come forwards now that the Snake-Wolf spat was over. "He said he had a plan, then he rushed SCORPIA guards and got himself captured."
The light bulb went off for them at the same time.
"He did it on purpose!" Wolf cried. "He went and got himself bloody captured to be on the inside!"
"That was his plan!" Snake added, raising his head to the sky and laughing, letting rainwater fall from his chin and forehead. "He's not stupid enough to do that without a plan. That was his plan!"
Eagle scoffed out loud. "A man with Alex. With those kids. A man on the inside." His head shot up, startling Tom.
"Geez," he muttered, but Eagle continued.
"We have to tell Sarge. Gather the troops, now that we have someone already with them!"
The four men looked at each other, then to their leader.
"Sounds like a plan," Wolf said. "Let's go."
Ooooo, calling in the calvary! What will happen...
