1. You do NOT get your Hogwarts letter on your eleventh birthday
Unlike what so many people think, you do not get your letter on your eleventh birthday. If you remember, Harry's first letter was sent to him, not on his birthday, but about a week before. Since the Dursleys kept destroying his letters, more and more kept coming. Harry finally got to read the letter when Hagrid personally came and delivered it, on his birthday. But that was honestly just a coincidence. Every single Witch or Wizard was sent their letter on the same day. Think of poor Hermione. If she got her letter on her eleventh birthday, she would have to wait nearly a year before she could go to Hogwarts. Her birthday is on September 19th, meaning she just misses the train by a little less than three weeks.
2. The Afterlife does NOT look like Kings Cross Station
Why is it that in so many Afterlife fics, it looks like Kings Cross Station? It is not! It looked like that only in Harry's mind, when he was talking to Dumbledore. This wasn't in the Afterlife, confirmed by Dumbledore. When Harry asks him whether the conversation was real or whether it was in his head, Dumbledore tells him that it is in his head, but that doesn't mean it isn't real. So the Kings Cross Station looking Afterlife was Harry's imagination. This was perhaps because of what it symbolises to Harry. It was the place where he first met his best friend Ron. The Gateway was his escape from the Dursleys to a world he actually liked. So the Afterlife took the form of Kings Cross Station in his mind.
3. Severus Snape is NOT Pureblood
Why do so many fics have Snape as a Pureblood? The sixth book is named Harry Potter and the HALF-BLOOD Prince for Merlin's sake! So why do so many fics have Snape as a Pureblood? In one fic, Walburga asks Sirius to tell what families he is allowed to associate with. He says Avery, Nott, Carrow, Selwyn, Snape. No, Snape is not Pureblood, and why would Walburga allow her son, Heir to the Noble and most Ancient House of Black, to spend any time with a Half-Blood, someone "beneath his station"? In another fic, Lucius Malfoy asks Snape whether he is a Pureblood, and snape answers with 'What else?'. I repeat, Snape is not a Pureblood. And unlike Umbridge, who was actually a Half-Blood, but pretended to be a Pureblood, Snape couldn't be mistaken for Pureblood either, since he bore the last name of his Muggle father.
4. Some theories that just aren't true
a) Being Master of Death means being immortal.
On the contrary, being Master of Death means accepting your own mortality.
b) Ginny stalked Harry and gave him a love potion.
Just because of one incident where Mrs Weasley was giggling with Hermione and Ginny about a potion she made, does not mean that Ginny gave Harry a love potion.
c) Ron was unintelligent.
Actually, Ron was very intelligent. He wasn't book smart, but he retained information very well, he was a brilliant chess player and he received reasonably high marks on his OWLs only failing in two subjects, Divination and History of Magic, and mostly scoring Exceeds Expectations on the rest of the subjects.
d) Ravenclaw is the house of the smart.
Ravenclaw also values creativity, individuality, the ability to have an open mind and wit.
e) Dumbledore was evil.
Dumbledore took every possible necessary precaution in order to defeat Voldemort. That doesn't make him evil. He did what had to be done to eradicate Voldemort…you know…the actual villain. Dumbledore consciously rejects power.
f) The Weasleys befriended Harry to get hold of his money.
If this were true, Harry's vault would have been empty. As it is, Fred and George almost reject Harry's Triwizard Tournament prize money until he threatens to pour it down a drain, and Harry would have offered half his money to the Weasleys, but he knew they'd never accept it.
g) Draco was really a sweet guy with an obvious crush on Hermione.
Yeah. Cause I can really see that when he hoped the Basilisk would kill Hermione. And it was so obvious when he expressed disappointment. Oh, and how did I not see it when he repeatedly looked down on her for being muggleborn?
h) Ron was abusive toward Hermione.
No. He was not. They bicker a lot, but it's rarely ever physical. In fact the two times their fight was physical, it was Hermione attacking, not Ron. When she cast Oppugno in HBP, and when she tried to attack him during DH. And even though most people seem to see Hermione in the right every time they fight, she is quite often wrong, and Ron is right.
i) Harry and Hermione were in love
Harry clearly states to Ron in Deathly Hallows that he views Hermione as a sister. Hermione also irritates him when he hangs out with just her. Hermione, in turn, views Harry as a brother. Reading anything Harmony, just makes me feel sick.
j) Dumbledore knew Sirius was innocent.
Where does this information come from? Everyone wants to think of Dumbledore as omniscient and omnipotent, even though JK made it very clear in the later books that this was untrue.
k) The marauders hated Peter or bullied him.
He was a dear friend and no one saw his betrayal coming. That's why it was so heartbreaking.
5. James Potter is NOT a Seeker
He's a Chaser peoples. The movies showed it wrong. The reason he was playing with a snitch was because it was easier to sneak out, and he wanted to impress Lily, showing that if he wanted to, he could play any other position on the team as well.
6. Catching the snitch doesn't win the game
If you think catching the Snitch means you automatically win, making the quaffle irrelevant, you probably don't know about the World Cup match, in GOF.
7. Ron was disloyal when he left Harry and Hermione in the Deathly Hallows.
This has been discussed a lot of times in this fandom but still people continue to blame Ron. Ron was possessed by the horcrux at that time. It was not his fault that he was affected the most by the locket. He was away from his whole family. The family which was in constant danger. He was afraid for them. That's natural. Voldemort is cruel, manipulative, and so much more. You think the part of him in the Horcrux wouldn't twist Ron's insecurities into something dangerous?
But well, Ron-haters will never stop bashing him. Will they?
8. Romione is toxic.
I don't think I can explain it to those who already hate Romione. Because I know that Romione-haters are the ones who are the most toxic.
But we Romione lovers know that Ron and Hermione are the best. They're truly made for each other. I don't care what J K Rowling said. It's the books that are cannon, and now the fans can enjoy the world.
9. A lot of people seem to think that no one except for Harry bothers to tell the Weasley twins apart, even their friends and family.
But that's just not true.
Mrs Weasley always knows which one of her sons she's speaking to, they just like to mess with her sometimes (like in their very first scene). Mr Weasley confuses George with Fred once in GoF, but he instantly corrects himself. Ron always seems to be able to tell them apart pretty easily, so does the rest of their siblings.
So what about their friends. Lee Jordan sometimes makes mistakes during Quidditch games. But let's be honest, the game is fast, and he probably can hardly see their faces from such distance, so he's just not sure. Their Quidditch teammates also always seem to know who is who as they name them correctly (like in the fighting scene with Fred, George, Harry and Draco in OotP).
So yeah, even if they're described as being "identical to the last freckle", people close to them are quite able to tell them apart.
10. Snape isn't some huge Patron of the Light
Don't get me wrong, I love Snape. C'mon, is there a single Potterhead who doesn't love "Always"? But that does not mean he is some good guy who loved Harry and only pretended to be mean.
He joined the Death Eaters of his own accord. He changed sides because Voldemort killed the woman he loved, not because he suddenly realized he had been wrong all those years. Every good thing he did was fueled by his hatred for Voldemort and his loyalty to Dumbledore for helping him get revenge on Voldemort.
He definitely is in Harry's words 'One of the bravest men he ever knew'. But he still has more faults than good characteristics.
If I think of any more, I'll add them here.
