Day 14
Today marks two weeks of survival in this crazy world. Yay. I'm going to check on the farm and think of the best way to expand it – should be easy with all the extra bone meal. Plus, selling off food is going to go a long way in making the villagers trust me more – I have a nagging feeling that something about me scares them.
That's something I'd neglected to mention last time - farmer lady was actually offering to buy about half a stack of potatoes for an emerald. Possibly food shortages? Either way, not going to pass up an opportunity to help someone and make some "money" while I'm at it.
Managed to expand the farm by filling a small part of the pond with dirt - I hope it won't mess up the hydration of the rest of the area or anything. Still not enough bone meal to completrly plant over this whole plot – need to get a new weapon before going bone-hunting again.
Of course, the farm hadn't produced enough to really consider selling the harvest off (yet), so the next best course of action is probably taking some of that huge surplus of coal I'm sitting on for sale.
It'd be pretty funny if SDC had started out the same day.
Returned to the village with all the coal I could spare (and carry); folks welcomed me back, yet I still couldn't help but notice the wariness with which they sized me up. Went straight to weaponsmith instead of getting on their nerves. While we were talking the details of the trade, I happened to mention my broken sword and asked him if he'd have any for sale soon. This got us talking, and he mentioned one very interesting detail: apparently, diamonds here are used not as simple eye-candy, but as crafting and smithing materials. Understandably, I was pretty shocked: how can one turn a freaking gemstone into a weapon? He simply told me that "your kind should have little trouble doing it".
I didn't ask what he meant by "my kind", instead just taking my emeralds and scurrying off home.
So here I am, writing this after a revelation that all this time I had the opportunity to put my diamonds to good use: apparently, weapons made from diamonds can be made much more deadly and wear-resistant than iron gear – somehow. I think I'll try putting together a sword first of all, as I won't be losing too much if I screw up during the crafting process; besides, I'm still not sold on diamonds' effectiveness to consider potentially wasting them on other tools and even armor (seen the recipes – they aren't exactly cheap).
Well, here goes nothing.
Ok, I take my words back. Diamonds are awesome.
This new sword I have? It feels sharp enough to cut straight through a God. I could probably do field surgeries with the blade, with how sharp it is. Not to mention how beautiful it looks: it's not even ornamented or anything like that (like my family heirloom), but the diamond gives it a unique sort of shine, I guess? No less captivating.
Well worth the pain I had to go through to put this thing together. I bet even the creation of your average mechashift weapon doesn't involve as many tiring and downright mind-breaking steps as this sword.
Chipping a piece off a diamond is hard enough. Cutting and shaping its edges into blades without having the damn thing turn into pieces is even harder. Imagine then having to cut and grind a perfectly shaped orifice in one diamond to insert the other one and then have them fuse together in yet another unexplainable and definitely not normally possible event. It's up there with a lava-filled bucket on the scale of absurdity.
Honestly it's pretty unbelievable that I've managed to craft it without messing the diamonds up. Even so, I am absolutely not looking towards the next time I have to work with them.
Not really much to do while waiting for the night, so decided to cook a batch of potatoes to my name. They didn't exactly turn out to be Valean style fries, but ended up being pretty filling nonetheless.
Just returned with about a dozen or so bones. Good haul.
This diamond sword is deadly. Probably as sharp as Crocea Mors. I didn't even have to resort to using an axe – just good old swordsmanship just straight up cutting through everything like hot knife through butter. If diamond armor pieces are anywhere as good at stopping attacks as this sword is at attacking, then I need to get myself geared up soon.
Accidentally pissed off one of the Tall Black Guys, and made an observation while fighting: looking them in the eyes seems to make them unwilling (or unable) to move. Good guy was even kind enough to allow me to munch on a potato – so long as I didn't take my eyes off him. He teleported behind me as soon as I did that – thankfully I was prepared for it.
Not a pretty fight, by any means, but it'd given me even more reasons to like my new blade. Something else happened as soon as the thing died, however: instead of simply disintegrating (as it had done the first time), the purple particles normally surrounding it rapidly started to concentrate, eventually fusing together into some sort of an opaque dark-green sphere – about the size of my palm, unnaturally cold (but not painfully) and mildly vibrating.
Looks kind of pretty. And is probably not very common, seeing how hard it is to kill its source.
The inventory calls it an "Ender Pearl", so by extension from now on if I mention any of these tall black lanky things I'll just call them "Enders".
Oh, and three: Saw some lights in the distance yet again. If it's another village, and so close to my "house" no less, I'm going to flip.
didn't have much time to edit this today, so the quality might be worse than usual
