Day 35
Came back to the base after my night at the village. Checked the enchanting thing recipe at the crafting bench: needs an empty book, 3 diamonds, a piece of lapis and a solid block of something called "Obsidian". System's very conveniently notified me that "Obsidian is created by rapidly cooling stationary lava with water". The only place I remember having lava is that freaking cave system with the mineshaft, where I haven't gone in weeks. That, however, can wait – there's crops to harvest, animals to take care of, that sort of thing.
Dug out and laid a foundation for my new little toolshack, where I plan to move all of the furnaces and the cutter saw (smokers can stay inside the house for now since smoked food really isn't that bad-smelling). I've seen some houses in that village use stripped logs for the floor, so, you know, why not give it a try? I kind of underestimated how tough it'd be to strip a log of its bark clean; but if anything, the blocky shape's made it easier. Looks rather decent. My only concern is that it might catch on fire from the furnace heat, but I think as long as there's a cobblestone layer between them it should be fine – my house hasn't burned down, at least. Walls will be made from some spruce logs and planks too, since I have aplenty.
Are you kidding me? I ran out of cobblestone AND it's getting late.
Oum.
At least I don't have to go too far.
Came into my quarry-cave while it was still sort of bright outside; came out in the dark and obviously with the mobs surrounding me. There was quite a crowd waiting ,but I got to my base fast enough and managed to wipe them out from behind the safety of my fence gates; although I built them sturdy, I probably need to put a proper lock on them or something. What's interesting is that one of the zombies on my tail had an enchanted shovel. Even though I killed him, one of the others surprised me by actually picking it up and managing to get a good hit on me. Didn't matter much, as I still ended up finishing everyone and taking the shovel, but that is something to be mindful of.
Did a quick test of the enchanted tool versus normal one I had lying in my house; in the end, the enchanted shovel (Efficiency I) just felt overall better than the plain one: easier to dig into dirt, easier to dig out the dirt, easier to swing around. And this is just lowest level of such an enchantment if I remember correctly; what will it be like with level III or IV?
Anyways, I have enough cobble to finish up the base of my shed.
Oh my gods. I just realized I stacked plank walls WITHOUT placing cobble base underneath (I wanted to do that!). I mean, it is not necessary here, but come on. I don't just want to leave the walls hovering in the air.
No kidding – I guess I am not the sharpest tool in the shed sometimes. Real smooth, Jaune. Now, on top of everything, I need to either dismantle the wall or somehow place cobblestone from below.
(Also I can practically hear Yang giving me a vocal thumbs up from somewhere for that pun)
finished the cobblestone base (this shovel has really proven itself, even in kind of sub-par condition), finished the roof, finished the floor. Carpenter Jaune reports his mission successful! This shed's turned out to be a cozy little place in no little part thanks to the spruce planks and their unique smell but that's probably going to be overwhelmed by the furnace stink pretty soon.
obsidian hunting tomorrow – Im itching to get some enchanted stuff on my own, not just through looting. Meanwhile, this is where i hope for a good nights rest.
