"And Lisa is going to have Minmay over!" rick said, forcing a smile on his lip. He grew tense at the mere thought.
There was a feeling of both girls wanted Rick badly enough. Yet, Lisa was more womanly and thought things through. She had always a cool head when it came to everything. It was rare chance when she flubbed up and lost her bearings. One time stood out in my mind to the time she really muffed things. It nearly cost Rick his life. At first, we all believed that Rick would stay with Minmay for life. He never held a grudge for very long. Yet, Lisa's miscalculations were totally whacked in my book. She was in a daydream as a battle was going on. Her mistake and timing on the bridge was too much. "You were just darn lucky!" I said, recalling the error of Lisa's ways.
"Thanks…" he sighed painfully as he recalled the time when he awoke to the sights and sounds of a hospital room. He was very much in need of a time out. He was starting to get a little over the top with his orders. The event and the miscalculations with Lisa brought both of them back home. "I think I got a real knock on the head when I ended up in the hospital. "
"You aren't going to bring it up when you and Lisa are planning the wedding!" I asked. I wondered into a path of dangerous woods. I knew rick was very touchy when it came to horrible mistakes. I blushed a little bit embraced when I noticed Rick's eyes. He appeared to be no happy with that statement. "Sorry…rick!"
He was on the edge of really blowing up at me. He was really a great and private guy when it came to having a girl. He was just green with envy when I was at Minmai's sweet sixteenth party. She was being just plain finked as she out for just one thing, presents. We were out in space and there was really nothing to get in a way of gifts. We had to make do with what we had. Rick was placed on the spot with getting a gift for her birthday party. He ended up giving his metal for bravery after our mission to the Zentraedi forces' ship. She never gave him back the metal. She was that kind of a girl and rick knew about it. "That's O.K." he sighed. He locked at Dana who was peeking from the entrance to the kitchen. He half smiled, "Hey Dana!"
"Oh?" she blushed before darting towards her bedroom. She knew she was going onto strange waters. She had no idea what was going with Rick and Minmay the years before she was born.
I was sure Dana was going to have her share of questions when the time came for her to be dating. She was too young to be even thinking about boys. Yes, she did hang out with Bowie her best friend in the world who was a boy. She had no idea on how boys and girls grew up into men and women. I wanted to keep her in the dark as best I could with Miriya's help.
"What's gotten into her?" Rick asked with puzzled smile.
"Oh, she is the nosy kind…" I sighed with a fatherly groan. Then, I rolled my eyes at rick. "She has to be always in the know about everything…she reminds me of Ben!"
"I wondered what Ben would say at a time like this?" He asked. He looked over at the wall facing the kitchen. There was a picture someone had taken of me, Rick and Ben. It was right after the Miss Macross event. Rick had a slight blush to his face. It was after he received a kiss from Minmei herself. "Would Ben think differently if he could see what had happen to us?"
"Maybe?" I said, leaving my world famous hanging questions. "Ben was always one to be very outgoing. Then, I turned with a smile on my face, "Ben would be razzing you to death about Lisa!"
"And what about Minmei…" Rick said in a lousy imitation of Ben. He knew about Ben's flirtatious ways.
"That's terrible!" I began to laugh loud. I placed a hand on my forehead as I laughed. There were no mistaking rick's attentions. I was at a loss for words. He knew I had no idea how Minmay was going to take the final act of the loss of her first real love. He had to be very careful with the lady's feelings. She had been crushed so many times. Even Kyle was not all that friendly when he turned to drink to relieve the pain of going from place to place during the war. I laughed very hard. I felt the tears coming into my eyes. I wanted to stop before rick or even Mirya had to put me away for a little while.
Rick looked me and asked with a puzzle look on his face, "What's so funny?"
"You…you are like George Bailey!" I teased between breaths. I felt the laughing ease up.
"Who?" Rick was totally clueless on who I was talking about.
I finally breathed gently. I brushed back a lose hair. "You don't remember that really old movie!"
"Which one?" he puzzled over my answer. There were a few 24 hours classic movie stations on the TV.
"The one were a guy named George Bailey is thinking about ending it all!"
Rick became a little incensed, "Whoa…whoa...whoa…I'm not that far gone to end it!"
"No. I don't mean that…the whole movie is done in a flash back style. It begins when George played by Jimmy Steward is a kid and basically tells George's life history…"
"It's sounds boring to me!" Rick huffed. He was still staring at the time. He looked like he was going to jump out of his chair and give me a slap on the face.
"Well," I recalled with a calming appearance. "George never had a girl friend to really speak of…he meets up with a girl that he had known all of his life and falls in life."
"It sounds like a dull movie!" rick sighed with a shrug to his shoulders.
"Well," I smiled trying to figure out how to do this one right. "It was a movie about hope and faith!"
"And it sounds just like you…always Mister Happy go lucky!" Rick chided. He knew me like a book.
There was nothing to hide about me. As long as could remember, my life was very much a dull, but simple life. Even as a fighter pilot, I tried to keep out of trouble as best I could. Myra was my trip to the other side of life. Sure, I liked girls, but she was different in every way. She had no idea of being human. She was a creature who looked human, but trained into the art of war. I had my work cut out for me after the wedding. She was the native wife and I helped her along. Then, when Dana came along, we changed. We were like my parents, the worrying and caring kind. Then, I was going in for the idea of being the parent. It was the killer of the idea. I had to be careful through; I could lose a friend that way. I said in a calm voice, "What about the idea of having kids?"
"What?" he gasped. His face grew white. His uttering was priceless. I tried not to laugh.
"Well," I softened my tone. I was going to the big brother instead of Rick.
After few a minute of dead silence, Rick spoke up or more like chirped up, "We talking about for a couple of times!"
"And?" I felt like I was back in my fighter trying to manage a good way out.
"And…I have something to talk over in the near future to Lisa. I'm sure she has a levelheaded on her shoulders when it comes to that!" he said.
"Let's hope!" I added. I knew Lisa was hardheaded about things. Was this one of those things?
There was more to come the next day. Lisa had stopped in for a couple of minutes. Luckily, Dana was at school. I was at my job and Miyra was at the house. She had a day off and needed to get some work done.
Myra heard the front door when she was going to start sweeping the hallway. She stopped the cleaner as she said, "I'm be there in a minute!"
She pushed the cleaner aside before walking over to the door. On wondering whom could it be, she was surprised as she looked at the front door to see Lisa standing there with a strange look on her face. "Oh…hi, Lisa…what's wrong?"
Lisa was fuming to the point of her face was a deep shade of red. She rolled her lips in order not to start swearing. She was upset with someone at work. Miyra wondered if it was Rick was the cause of Lisa's anger. She looked at her best friend.
Lisa found the sofa and plopped down with tears of pain began to roll down her face. Myra was confused at the way humans could express so many feelings all at once. Lisa hissed, "I can't believe he asked me about my father!"
Feeling still even more befallen, Miyra asked, "Your father…isn't your father dead?"
"Yea," she sighed. She wondered if Rick was just being stupid or truthful as they talked from the previous night. She wanted Captain Gloval to give her way at the wedding a year earlier. She had lost her father that year when the Restraints where attacking Alaska. She had to change her mind after she and the others watched in horror to the exposition on the FDS-1. She had no one to turn to after that. She wondered if her wedding was just going to be a plain Jane affair with no one giving her away. She groaned as her head ache from the pain of yelling at Rick. She bit her lip before saying, "I have been a fool before and stood up to the big jerk!"
"And…" Miryia said as she took the chair opposite where Lisa was sitting at. She tried her best to give Lisa the benefit of the dout. She knew that Lisa was going to be upset with everything.
"He asked some guy he knew from the air cirus!" Lisa sighed, rolling her eyes.
Miriya was surrpseid at Lisa's statement. "The Air Cirus…isn't that back on earth?" she asked with a puzzled glance. She knew rick still had ties to his home town back on earth. He wanted to invite some of the people who he had grown up with at his hometown.
"I told him, I wanted someone who was kind of thrown us otgehter in a sort of an odd way!" Lisa said. Her mind was clearning and she was starting to thinkg abouit the time she, Rick, Britai, Lance and Max were thrown into during the frist Robotech war.
"It was odd…really," Myira said. She treiud to stop herself from giggling hard. She had no idea what was she was going hear in the next five mintues.
"Oh…really…what about you and Max…you are an odd couple!" Lisa huffed.
Looking at her friend, Myra was a little taken aback. She wondered if being on earth was too much. She had changed so much in the past twelve or so years, still wondering if she had to go back being a warrior if need to.
"What I meant was…the two worlds that you and Max come from are like oil and water…" Lisa rephrased herself.
"And that is…" Myria aasled as she placed a hand up to her chin as if she was going to think.
"Max had a good life…he choice for his lot of being in the space forces," Lisa said as she leaned forward. She remembered hearing the stories of both Rick and Max.
"Yes…Rick was lucky…Roy was there for him as the two grew up together!"
"Yet…like Rick…Max was bored out of his mind…so, he signed up for the service!"
"Hey…mom…I'm home!" Dana's voice called out. She had just came back from school. She looked like she could eat a horse. She noticed Lisa sitting on the sofa as she entered the living room. She said with a surprised look, "Hiya…Lisa!"
"Hiya…slugger!" Lisa kind of smiled at the young woman to be.
"What are you doing here?" Dana asked with a curious look at her book bag.
"Nothing!" Lisa said as she noticed that Dana had plopped her book bag on the floor. She heard the usual noise of stuff and books spilling out as Dana had forgotten she did not close her bag up.
Mirya noticed her daughter trying to clean up her mess. She gave Lisa a smile as she asked Dana, "How was school!"
"Boring…" Dana sighed. She had glanced at the clock. It was going to be another long time before supper and a longer time before the weekend.
Mirya noticed a few notes scribbled on a sheet of notepaper. She had to see what kind of homework Dana was bring home. She had a system of doing the hardest first.
Lisa posed the question of Dana's day as she noticed Dana's red face. "How was school?"
Dana liked Lisa very much as through she was an aunt. she said, "I had to read out loud...some story aoubt a girl who visited her gandma...it was totally silly..." Then, she sighed as she placed a note book on the coffee table. "Here...mom you have to sign this!"
"Sign what?" Miyra aksed, noticing the paper on the coffee table.
"It was really O.K." Dana sighed. she appeared to be less in the mood for school work. she had been wondering about other things. it seemed normal for her to be so lost in thought.
"Oh?" Miyra aksed with a raised eye brow.
"Yea...Bowie...I'm mean the guys were teasing some of the girls about going to gym," Dana recalled the past events that happened in school.
"Gym?" Lisa asked. Then, she ssat back to wondered if Dana got ijnot with Bowie. Lisa had a thought in her mind about the wedding. it seemed lioke a logn shot to be asking such a simple question. she leaned forward to get Dana's attention. she aksed with a small smile, "If you work realkly hard..."
"Uh?" Dana asked, a surprised stare was coming aroiumd jher face.
"I mean..." Lisa was troyung to her thjoguths in the right order.
"Yea…gym was O.K." Dana sighed.
"Just O.K.?" Myira askjed as she knew Dana was in the dog house with Bowie. The two were best friends for a long time.
"This is not getting us anywhere!" Lsia sighed with a giggle. She wanted to be sure if who Dana was going to react if she was given the idea being a flower girl at Lisa's wedding.
"I feel the same way!" Myira agreed.
"I'm just plain confused!" Dana said when she stared her mum and Lisa.
"What was the question again?" Dana asked innocently. She looked at Lisa for another minute with wide eyes.
"I wanted you to be my flower girl at my wedding…I wanted to you to know that!" Lisa said.,
" Me?" Dana gasped. She felt like she was hit in the face with a wet towel in the face.
"And what about me?" Myria aksed. She knew that Claudia was not there for Lisa. She was like a sister to her as well. She felt happy to have Dana in the wedding.
"You can be my matron of honor…!" Lisa smiled weakly as she wondered if the wedding was still a right thing to do after nearly nine years of dating Rick. Rick was still so young when the two met. It was very rocky relationship for the two. At the end, it was Lisa who had won the place for Rick's wife over childish Mynmai.
"What are you thinking about?" Myaria asked as noticed the flooring in the front room needed to swept.
"Everything…" Lisa said with a laugh. She had to recall the first time she and Rick had made contact. He was at the airstrip in Macross city. She was on board the FDS-1. It was the first time for everything including the invasion of the Zentraedi. "and he called me an old sour puss!"
Mirya nearly starting to laugh at Lisa. She had always believed that Lisa was a mature and beautiful woman, not a sour puss. She had a huge grin on her face, she questioned Lisa, "What give him that idea!"
"It was on the first and initial fight day of the FDS-one…we were being attacked by the Zentraed, namely Britai. Rick happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time," Lisa sighed, rolling her eyes.
Miyira had to be in with her two cents in as she said, "He does have a habit of getting in and out of scrapes. he wasn't a fighter at the time...right?"
"Yea..." Lisa blushed a little. she recalled on how Roy had ot go and find Rick who was in a new Vertech fighter. Even Cludia had to stick her nose into the mess. "I was totoally surprised to see how easily Rick took to the jet part of the Verteck, but whne it turned into a robot, things got kinda wrost!"
"Was it the time he smashed inot Minmai's house?" Miyira aksed as she tried to recall the story she heard from me and Rick.
Rick wanted Lisa to be happy. She had her own ideas for the wedding. She needed to talk to her mom about the events which lead to her wedding. For Rick there was his aunt back in Tokyo. Lisa had to be the storng one whio had to be forceful. She knew Rick was not going to be that easly in backing down, but he was just a guy who still had a thing for Minmai. It was the idea in which Lisa could hold it over him.
"What really did happen to Rick and Minmai…why did he dump her so quickly?" Miyira asked with a curious stare.
"It was more like she dumped him, Lisa sighed she retold the story of Rick having two relationships that would so blow up in his face if he stop and slow down. He needed to pulled back before too long. "I just wish that he would have been a little more careful. Minmai is very flicked."
"What about you?" Miyrai asked. She was getting interested in the story of Rick the so called playboy of the FDS-1.
"About me or me and Rick?" Lisa asked.
"Uncle Rick had two girls…you and Miss Minmai?" Dana asked with a hint of excitement.
"Wait…is Dana old enough for this conversation or does she even know what about a man and woman go through when they are in love?"
"What….me?" Dana asked. She was going on thirteen not fourty.
"Yes…you…Miss I'm going to find a guy who is not like me…I'm going to be a girl is who hard to get. You are too young for this but, I'm going to be the one who is going to be a wet bllanket in your mother's disssion!" Lisa teased.
"Lisa?" Myrya asked. Her one eye brow was raised in surprise.
"Sorry…I'm out of order, but was like Dana myself when I was her age. There was a huge difference!" Lisa sighed.
Dana did have a better understanding of what and why people fall into like. She was still a kid. She had a friendly relationship with Bowie. Mirya wondered about other boys in Dana's class in school. Mirya had to stop herself. She reminded herself that Dana was going to find someone special when the time came.
Lisa asked Myria, "What's on your mind?"
"Well, I will let Dana be the flower girl, but who's going to be the ringbearer?" Mirya wondered out loud.
Lisa knew Bowie would a natural choice for Dana's flower girl as a ringbearer. She smiled, "It's Bowie!"
"No way?" Dana's mouth had dropped.
Myira smiled even more. She sighed with a giggle, "You and him are best friends…"
"But, mom?" Dana asked. She was realizing that Dana had to be in front of everyone from the FDS-1 who survived the attack from the Zentraedi. She was very careful not to be the center of attention. "Why us?"
"More like whuy me?" Myira asked. She wanted to be sure that Dana was not the center of attention. "You should be thinking about what's going to happen. It's not you that's getting married, it's Lisa. Rick and her really love each other. It's like the time me and your father got married. We just couldn't see how in the world we were thrown in the situation that we were in, but it happened!"
" Yea…I have to be all prim and proper? Right?"" Dana asked. She knew that she needed to be all dolled up and act more grown up at the wedding.
"We have been hoping that you will grow up…you are still a kid, but someday you will have met a guy will brigten your day and you can't stand going without him. Then, yiou realized being grown up is the most wonderful thing that every happened!" Lisa said. She knew the human side of Dana was going to be less sensible then her Zentraedi side.
'And we want you and Bowie to be proper young lady and gentleman. This is a big respoablity for the pair of you to act grown up…" Myria said with a half stern, half goofy look.
"What's in it for me?" Dana asked. She knew there was going to a catch!
"Well…" Lisa said slowly, looking at Mirya for another sort of help. "Are you sure….she's up to it?"
"Maybe not…you know…Sami had a ltitle sister that was living in the states. We can run a shuttle back and forth to Ohio just for one day or so?" Myria said.
Lisa had to ask Myria about the first time that Max had misgivings about their relationship. Lisa gave Dana a quick glance. Dana was now engrossed with a cooking magazine. Dana was bored with the chore she was doing. She knew her mum and Aunt Lisa were going to talk until her dad showed up.
"I can tell you the true. I was the first one to have the first misgivings. Remember, I was creAted for war. Max is really a nice guy...like Rick. True, he is gifted in combat, but he is happy just being a dad to Dana and a husband to me. It's only when pushed, Max had a great sense of duty!" Millia said.
Dana was a girl who just going be a pain until she got her way.
"What is up with your mind?" Lisa asked .
"I want to play with my friends," she shrugged . "That's all"
"Well, you can do that…but we need you to get dressed up for one day, but the catch is you need to be fitted for the dress in a couple of months!" Lisa said very carefully. She knew Dana was Max's daughter. She was going to be a princess one way or another.
"What…you mean that I need ot stand there while the people who are making up the dress stick pins in me?" Dana said, sounding a ltitle alarmed.
Lisa knew Dana got her frankness from me. I could understand that. Miryia had some, but knew how to dish it out. Lisa cleared her throat and said, "Kind of…you will get to have a ltitle treat with me everyday when we and your mom are at the dress makers!"
Dana liked surprises a lot. She brightened up at the fact of beong picked for a surprise. "What is it?" she gasped with her eyes shining.
