A/N: Hi everyone! This is my first fanfiction ever. I'd appreciate if you review. Thank you so much in advance and please enjoy!

Chapter 1: Desires of the Damned

A soft breeze caressed his skin as he stepped off the plateau and onto the shore. Bone-white sand tickled his toes as he walked along the shoreline, eventually stopping to sit on a rock about 100 metres away. The seventeen-year old boy then looked out at the ever-darkening horizon. The waning sun lit the sky a ruddy orange and cast long shadows along the desolate beach.

He admired the surroundings for a few minutes before turning around and reaching into the knapsack he brought with him. From it, he procured a dusty photo album and began to flip through the pages. It looked like the album showed pictures of happy times. But Murtagh knew better. He could tell that those smiles plastered on his face were completely fake. A mere charade put up to free himself of his father's wrath. Morzan would not want his parties ruined by the runt he was forced to call his son.

With a look of anguish on his face, the dark-haired boy then proceeded to periodically tear out each page, one by one. Every page contained a different set of memories and Murtagh wanted to forget all of them. They all reminded him of a different time his father hurt him.

Why does he hate me so much? It's not my fault that I survived while my mother didn't!

But sometimes, Murtagh wished he had died instead. It would have been easier than having to endure the constant pain and feeling of rejection whenever he looked at his father's face. How could someone's life get so out of place in one night?

'Can we get some ice cream before we go home momma?' asked a three-year old Murtagh.

Selena was currently driving on the highway. They had just been to the dentist for Murtagh's first check-up and we're now on their way home.

'But sweetheart, you just went to the dentist!' Selena chuckled, 'Why don't we head home now and I'll make some spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. How does that sound?'

Selena was just about to exit the flyover when it happened. Out of nowhere, a large transportation truck emerged and slammed into the right side of their car. The Corolla swerved off the road and tumbled into the ditch on the side. At that moment, Murtagh fell unconscious.

By some miracle, or curse, Murtagh survived but his mother didn't. Selena's airbag didn't deploy when they slid off the road and crashed. Her heart monitor flat-lined that night in the ER.

Murtagh lost a lot of blood that night and barely survived. Upon his immediate return to consciousness, he was met with Morzan's fiery temper. His father slapped him across the face before going on with his rant.

"Why couldn't you have died instead! Selena didn't deserve her fate and-" was all Mozan could get out before a pair of nurses dragged him out of the room. Under his breath, a three-year old Murtagh whispered, "I'm sorry."

The seventeen-year old Murtagh then stood up and threw the book as far as he could into the sea.

'Just one more year and then I can leave this hellhole' he planned. He had only one more year until college and once Morzan was no longer his legal guardian, he'd escape. He would no longer have to bear the abuse and oppression inflicted on him.

Little did he know what the year would bring for him. All the plans he made of a new life would be flushed away in a single night, much like the night of the accident.
