A/N: Sorry for the influx of chapters that are less than 1K. Not all of them will be this short. I hope you enjoy.
Yet another day of fruitless endeavors in the council meeting chambers, and Neji was ready to give up.
Hanabi was fuming, clenching and unclenching her fists as she ranted. "Who do they think they are?! We are just as qualified to speak of this as they are! Old bats! Prehistoric zombies!"
"Just a little more effort," he was muttering, as if trying to convince himself. "Just another small shove, and perhaps…"
"Ugh! Forget a small shove! Try pushing them off a diving board!" She waved her fist at the sky. "I can't imagine going through that hell when I inevitably take over as clan head from Father! He'll be owing me big time!"
"Let's just get home and we can discuss this over lunch," he suggested, turning to move them through an alley. "Lee should be visiting today. Maybe we'll get an update on the unsolved murder case from a month ago."
"I suppose," the girl huffed.
As they walked, they could hear a small commotion in the street ahead. At the sound of a familiar voice, they froze, giving each other incredulous looks as they peeked around the corner of the alley.
In the next street over ahead of them, a young Hyuuga teenager that Neji faintly recalled having just graduated the academy was raising his voice at a couple of Uchiha guards. The older men were taunting and laughing at the boy, his face bright red with anger, as they pushed him back.
"Blatant disrespect!" The teenager was shouting. "Who do you think you are, a bunch of thugs?"
"Oh come off it, stop shouting," one of the men snapped as he finally lost his temper and pushed the boy over onto the street. "You'll receive much worse in the guard. Toughen up."
"You aren't a boy clutching his mother's skirts anymore," the other added, leering down at the teen as he tried to scramble out of the mud puddle.
"I will report this!" He was fuming, wringing the dirty water out of his once-pristine white shirt. "You will be hearing from my supervisor for this!"
"And what will they do?" The first man countered, taking a step forward. "It's two against one, young man. And given that you're a new graduate, or so you claim, nobody is going to take a freshmeat's word over two his senior."
Neji gave a glance at his younger cousin, whose eyes were glimmering with an idea.
She turned to him with a menacing grin. "Sounds like we just got our smoking gun," she whispered. "Think they'll change their tune now?"
"It's possible, but only if we get the boy's side of things," he surmised with narrowed eyes. "We'll need to scout him out later. For now, let's head home."
A/N: "My father will be hearing of this!" is all I heard in my head when I was writing this kid lol.
Please tell me what you thought!
