Author's Note: It has been five freaking years! Since I last updated. I was upset when my laptop crashed and took all my stories with it, but instead of keeping moving forward I sulk like a child and you the readers did not deserve that. I sincerely do apologize.
Sasuke stood there his murky orbs watching as the blonde disappeared into the crowd. The wind was the only thing heard between the muted crowd. Vactor Gai's dark gaze scanned the confused Newfoundland natives. Iruka had given chase and so did his cousin. It was Jiraiya who made his way to the front he threw his arms up and began to cheer.
"Between that sultry kiss, your bride must be ready for the wedding night!" Jiraiya catcalled.
Vactor Gai leaned in close to Sasuke to, "Go find your bride." I'll handle this.
"Don't keep your bride waaaaitiiiiing, ah-hahaha," teased Jiraiya he began to laugh even harder when his partner in crime Kiba came to join him in the laughter. They were both draped an arm over one another shoulders whilst holding a mug of mead.
Sasuke hid his annoyance through a clenched jaw as he made eye contact with Gai he nodded. He could hear both Jiraiya's and Kiba's laughter in the background. If they were within reach, he would have surely wrapped his fingers around their throats. Sasuke shook his head as he followed suit. The crowd began to clap and cheer.
"Ah, young love!" one female villager said as they began to toss white rose petals at their King. The inhabitants believed this was a joyful night instead of the disaster it could have been. Sasuke elicited a smile as he raised his hand awkwardly nodding at the many pats on the shoulder and terms of endearment on his way to the lodging. He could still hear Jiraiya and Kiba's laughter in the distance being carried by the wind they had to coax the band to play an upbeat tune while they dance around and drew in the crowd.
Sasuke swatted pedals from his hair once he was inside of the lodging, he closed the door behind him locking out all the buffoonery going on outside. He took a breath pressing his back against the closed doors before sliding down to the floor his head inclined to the ceiling. He was drained mentally and physically and for the first time, he was unsure. He closed his eyes absorbing the stillness of the tavern.
"You don't fool me one-minute Sasu'." His eye shot open at her voice.
"What do you want Sakura." He exhaled dejectedly.
"Even in death, that woman torments me still. I should have been your queen it was written in the stars!" She declared. "I gave you an heir, not her!"
"Just because we were promised to one another before we could walk doesn't mean it was written by Freya. Our fathers did this for diplomacy that is all. There is no grandiose plan at fault. I saw you as a friend we tried all that and it did not work." Her jealousy and possessiveness were too overwhelming. At one point he believed he loved her but love and lust were two different things.
She came close kneeling down in front of him whilst placing both hands on his knees.
"If you deny me this, I will take the babe and take my leave." She threatened. He locked enraged onyx orbs with bright emeralds ones, his glare penetrated straight to her soul. He took ahold of her wrist squeezing until she winced, but her eyes did not falter.
"If you take my son, I will bring down upon you a storm that will make Hela herself proud!" There was poison in those words so much so he could taste it in her mouth. She was like a leech that he was ready to rid himself of.
"I'd like to see you try." She spat before snatching her wrist away, she stood up turned and headed in the direction of their baby's room. Tears welling up in her eyes Sakura was determined and she knew he would come around the oracle of her village had seen this she said there would be obstacles and that Sakura had to stop taking a passive approach. She had that golden-haired slut in her sights. Freya the goddess of love wells it.
Sasuke sighed he stood heading in the direction of his bed chambers he just wanted to rest. And so that's just what he did. He climbed into his massive bed, closing his eyes in disdain. He heard the call of the rooster the celebrating had lasted all night he had awoken several times that night. He rolled on his side staring at his bedroom wall only leaving his bed to relieve himself and drink water before crawling back into his empty bed until it got nightfall again coaxing sleep until he was jerked awake the next morning from the call of the rooster.
Begrudgingly he would stir from his bed. He placed a pillow over his head until it was night again closing his eyes as he eagerly succumbed to sleep. Only to be stirred awake again by the rooster's call. How many days was it now? He felt groggy as his eyes grew heavy. He was feverish and dizzy.
By the third day, the fever had taken hold of him from the mixture of cold air and lack of food.
It was the thrashing on his bedroom door that disrupted his lucid dreams. "Leave me." He called his voice cracking it was dry and starchy. He was too weak to stay awake.
His door was roughly barged into as his murky orbs met those all too familiar intense cobalt ones.
He broke down tears cascading down his flushed cheek. "I miss her." He said almost deliriously.
"I know." The blonde had a wooden bowl filled with boiled bone broth. "You eat." Naruto was still learning Norse. His words were less of a demand and more of a request.
"No just let me die. I am already a ghost." Naruto had approached the massive canopy bed he stopped at the end, to climb onto the mattress joining the Viking Monarch they were facing one another, he sat the bowel between them to stroke those damp ebony tresses whit his bandage hand as Sasuke silently broke down in his arms.
Naruto just remained at his side lying next to him as he continued to gingerly run his sun-kissed digits through those soft murky strains, loosening up whatever tangles and knots may have formed. Naruto had filled his mouth up with the warm broth mixture and pressed his lips to Sasuke's in what had appeared as a chaste kiss instead he pushed the broth into his mouth to feed him.
All he saw when he closed his eyes was her face, He could remind their final moment together like it was just morrow. It was the beginning of Yule the midwinter solstice the tavern was decorated with bright green Yule trees and wreaths which were covered with carefully placed red berries, food, and ornaments. There was a celebration as Viking families told stories of how Odin would ride across the night sky to visit their homes and bestow blessings.
They were all in the mess hall eating, drinking, and celebrating as cheerful music played in the background. Sasuke had looked turned to his wife on the right. Her head hung low to the point where her golden blonde locks spilled over her face.
"What is wrong now?" the raven responded in his normal annoying pitch. She had been suffering ever since the stillbirth of their son. The Queen had sworn up and down that she heard the babe cry but the midwife said otherwise. He believed she was unwell.
"You are drawing attention. How about your smile." He was met with a glare.
"I recently lost my son I told you I did not feel like coming and you forced me. How about you kiss my arse." She hissed, before forcing a smile in his direction.
He signed; her melancholy was killing the festivities.
"We can always make more." He had fully detached himself from the awful news or decided to ignore its existence entirely. Her forced smile dropped. If looks could kill.
"Who says I'll let you touch me ever again my lord." She abruptly rose from her seat and stormed off, but before Sasuke could case her, his hand was grabbed.
"Would you accompany me with a dance my lord?" He met emerald green orbs as a breathless Sakura appeared she smiled at him. She had been dancing the entire time watching the exchange between King and Queen. She somehow knew he was going to chase after her so Sakura came to interject. At first, Sasuke paused as if compilating his option but nevertheless accepted her hand.
They dance around to the thump of the snare drum with the other merry couples together to the cheery festival music. Sakura had almost wriggled a smile from those frowning lips. As they dance slow and then faster.
"We should dance more often my lord. You are quite good at it." She gave a cute twirl. Her whimsical dance was becoming intoxicating. And it didn't help she would dance so close but with enough distance to tease. It didn't help that the green undress and apron were hugging her curves in all the right places making her long salmon color hair stick out.
"Meet me in the stables." He whispered his breath brushing against her neck.
"Aye my lord," they both took a bow as the song came to an end. She smiled at him knowingly they never broke eye contact.
Sasuke had woken with a start his ebony brows coming together creating that familiar annoyed crease. He noticed the familiar canopy. okay, he was in his bed but how did he get here?
Was he not just standing outside in the frigid cold night air waiting for his attendance? He turned in the bed and notice a mop of golden-blonde locks his breath hitched so did they consummate the marriage had he got drunk. He removed himself from the bed but was gentle enough not to wake his bedmate. No that wasn't it, a memory of the youth taking hold of his chin and pressing his lips against his own came to the forefront that was right the blonde had force-fed him.
He shut the doors behind him and continued his journey to the feast hall. To see his clan all sitting and eating Iruka had been the first to notice him. He approached Sasuke they stood eye to eye they both grabbed one another's elbow in a solid brace. "You need not worry about me 'ruka but I am eternally grateful." He knew it was his second in command who had sent Naruto. The image of the blonde stroking his hair popped into his head. The queen would always rub her fingers through his hair to help lull him to sleep.
His words seemed to put Iruka at ease.
They then released each other's arms and accompanied one another to the table Sasuke took his seat at the head.
"Odin has graced us with your presence. Does the newlywed need to refuel before continuing his pursuits?" Kiba lightly teased
Sasuke's features remained unfazed. So, no one else knew what had happened. That excluded Iruka and Naruto. Why did he behave in such a way? The memory of him breaking down in the blonde's arms instantly made him tense, such a display of frailty.
"It is true! I saw it with my own eyes Naruto enter Sasuke's bed chambers the other morning and has yet to leave." Jiraiya joined
"Have you two nothing else better to do than sit here and cluck like two old hens." Scolded Iruka.
Sasuke had observed the large table these men were his family, no matter how annoying they may be these men would gladly lay down their life for him. He sighed smirking before joining in on the feast.
Just then he saw the blonde-haired Saxon enter. He had been on the search their eyes met but this time it was Sasuke who swiftly broke the exchange. He continued to eat as if nothing had just transpired as if he was never just feverish or near-death door. He decided to ignore it all.
