Chapter Five
Next day…
Cal Sci…
'Boy, what a day this will be'
Charlie was tired, as he could barely sleep over the fact his Dad was taken in for questioning about two deaths of two people that he knew, and Stan was being questioned as well about the deaths.
'I don't even know what to say to Mom about all of this.' He anxiously thought to himself
Margaret was the same way, as she was worried about her husband being accused of something he didn't do, as well as their friend Stan. She knew that Alan would never hurt, let alone, kill anyone, and she felt the same way with Stan, as they have known each other for years and Charlie wouldn't argue with her on that.
He would've stayed home and waited for Alan to tell him about what was going on but Margaret told him to go to work while his father slept, as he was questioned until it was nearly midnight and wasn't able to finally get home until around 1:30 due to traffic and was still asleep when Charlie got up, so he made a mental note to talk to his father about it later.
Larry was still at a conference in San Diego, and wouldn't be back for another two days, so he didn't have anyone else to discuss the nights events, since Larry refuses to get a cell phone, and his mentor doesn't know the number of one of the hotel phones, so he would try email, but Larry isn't that good at remembering emails, so Charlie decided to also discuss things with him when he got back.
Provided he remembered where he was and didn't get lost on his way back to LA.
Classes went okay, as he did the best he could to focus on the lectures he was giving and not think about the previous night, or the talk with Amita, as he only had just remembered about it when he was doing his second class and hoped he was still prepared enough about it, as he now had to deal with his father's current situation that only added to current one with Don.
Strangely, when the time for the meeting came, Charlie felt relief, as he can at least district himself with the thesis questions before getting the really hard ones, though it was short-lived as the review for the thesis only took a half hour, meaning he now had to talk about things he hadn't even discussed with his parents, or Don for that matter.
"So, Charlie…" Amita began, herself still feeling uneasy about asking about the situation, "What can you tell me about what happened between Don and Alan that was so bad that they haven't seen each other for years."
Charlie sighed, as this was something he wasn't fully sure of himself, as he knew his parents were unhappy about Don joining the FBI but he only started witnessing the issues for a couple years before that night but he decided to tell her what he knew and hoped she would get the general idea.
He started with the said unhappiness, then talked about some of the arguments that he had overheard, particularly the awards night when his parents were unhappy that Don had to leave early, even though he had warned them in advance. That and the several other incidents before that last night they saw him at the Craftsman. Aside from the previous family problems, he also informed Amita about what had happened the previous night and what he had known had happened, which wasn't much.
Amita absorbed what Charlie told her about the arguments, Alan not being happy about Don being an agent, and other things she wasn't sure what to even make of it. All she knew was that someone had to talk to Alan about his own behavior, as well as Margaret, as she knew if they still had those kinds of attitudes, they would never be able to mend fences with Don, and, to a certain extent, with Charlie as well.
"Thanks… Thanks for listening… I didn't realize I needed to talk to someone about this… this whole thing." Charlie said, out of breath, hoping he didn't scare her off of possibly helping him with the family situation.
It turned out he didn't even have to ask.
"That's ok, Charlie." Amita said as she put her hand on Charlie's. "I can understand the difficulties of family, is there anything I can do to help?"
Charlie was briefly taken by surprise but he then felt relief, as he now had someone to discuss possible ways to get things going between Alan and Don. They could try arranging a possible meeting between Don and Alan, in addition to having a talk with Margaret, as he wanted to discuss some of her actions as well.
He just hoped it would work.
