Chapter Eight
Half Hour Later…
Margaret was surprised to see Amita in the living room, as she wasn't aware of Charlie saying anything about his Thesis student coming over but she was happy to see a familiar face given what has been going on the past couple days.
"Hey, Amita." Margaret greeted the younger woman, "I didn't expect you to be here at this hour."
"Hey, Mrs. Eppes, I wanted to come here, as I wanted to learn more about Charlie's family." Amita said with a polite smile
Margaret nodded, feeling the similar dread as her husband, as she still feels the guilt of her actions in the days leading to Don effectively cutting off contact with them. She knew that after that… night…, what Alan had told her, that she had played a part, as she wanted to apologize to Don for her behavior at the awards night but she hasn't had the chance to since then and she knew time was running out.
"Certainly, Amita, I can tell you about anything that you want to know." She said, returning the same smile.
"Thanks." Amita answered, knowing she was probably going to get a similar answer from her like Alan, but she still wanted to hear her side of the story.
The older woman nodded and took a spot on the same couch and they sat in a few moments of silence before either of them spoke.
Finally, Margaret spoke first, "What do you want to know?"
"I wanted to know about your oldest, Don, and what he is like…" Amita began as they went through a similar discussion as with Alan, the guilt and the regret of not being able to say sorry.
The two conversations led Amita to the conclusion that she and Charlie were both right, that Alan and Margaret need to meet with Don as soon as possible, because with the investigation and that the two were getting older, there might not be much time for amends to be possibly made and that the three really need to talk through their issues if they are to do so.
They just need to figure out how to convince both parties to do just that, especially with the possible complications with the investigation. Time will tell.
Meanwhile..
Albuquerque…
Don sighed, as he was still having a headache ever since he found out about his father's possible involvement in the case in LA and he felt like it was fate just laughing at him. That the family that he has been avoiding for years is coming back to haunt him. To him it just wasn't fair, as he just wanted to live his personal life in peace and he sure wasn't getting it with his parents, so now he doesn't know what to do.
As for Kim, she was also dealing with some parental problems, as her father tried calling again, and this time she blocked his number and then she had to deal with an email saying that her mother needs to talk to her about something urgent but she deleted the email, not wanting to do anything with her parents, which he knew all too well, though he was never clear on her reasons for her own problems with her parents but from what he gathered, it was something about her choice of career, among other things.
He wasn't sure if he should talk to Charlie about this, as there would be a chance their parent's might find out about them talking but he just doesn't know what to do, he just hoped this whole thing will blow over soon and he can focus on his wife and kids, though he still wondered about whether or not he should at least meet with his parents.
While he hated to admit it, even to himself, he missed his parents, despite the problems that they have had with each other but he doesn't know what to even say to them. It's something that he is not sure as to how to explain it to his kids, who have asked him and Kim about grandparents, which they both said were too far and busy to meet with them and they don't know how much longer until they would have to tell them the truth and hope they don't repeat the cycle.
Don was rescued when a knock came to his door, which he gratefully answered and was just as grateful that it was about a possible break in the case, allowing him to have something else on his mind for a while.
