The Vale Police Department appeared to be a good choice for a career. Jaune browsed through his scroll for any other careers that would fit his skillset. It wasn't uncommon for huntsmen to retire and get a job as a civilian, so it wasn't too difficult to find potential careers that would work for him. The headmaster had already spoken with him about his predicament and expressed his support. Jaune was happy to hear that the mother's future wasn't in major jeopardy. She'd still be able to study but would have to catch up physically after their child is born.

Headmaster Ozpin then explained how Jaune had plenty of time to figure out his arrangements. At least until the end of the semester. That meant he had about two months, which was enough time to find employment. The sooner he got a job, the better. Renting an apartment in Vale wasn't cheap and he wasn't quite sure if he was ready to talk to his family about the matter. Plenty of things held him back.

Jaune put away his scroll and massaged his temples. Forget about his family, they could wait. How was he going to break the news to his friends? Ren took it pretty well, but he was Ren. There were plenty of good reasons why he went to him first. The others would need to know. Add that to the mental checklist. Get a job, figure out living arrangements, then figure out the costs of raising a child and all that. He'd have to learn about being a single parent, handle his own taxes, and-

Jaune's stomach dropped when he realized he had yet to actually meet his ex's parents. There were plenty of things to discuss with her, but now the thought kept persisting. What about her family? Would they accept their decisions? How will they react to this in general?

He sighed. There was no need to keep stressing himself over this. For now, he had to take care of any immediate issues.

"Jaune? You there?"

Nora peered into their dorm and invited herself in. She had a small smile plastered on her face, far different compared to her usual wide grin and abundance of energy. She gently shut the door behind her and sat down next to him on his bed.

"Ren mentioned you had something to speak with me about?" she said softly.

Jaune felt as ease, yet felt as though he was speaking to a stranger. He didn't know Nora could actually contain herself like this. He was worried she's overreact or even blurt out the news for all of Beacon to hear. Instead, here she was with a motherly tone to her voice. Why was this Nora more intimidating than the hyperactive one he was used to?

"Yeah, um..." He pinched the bridge of his nose. "I'm not sure what Ren mentioned, but I guess I should just tell you. Things are complicated for me right now. I'm... I'm going to be a dad."

Nora's eyes slightly widened and she lost her smile. She stood up, and Jaune braced himself for a spine-crushing hug along with cries of euphoria. However, he was only greeted with a warm hug by her. She pulled back and revealed the tears she had running down her cheeks.

"I'm going to be an auntie?"

Jaune couldn't help help but smile.

"Y-Yeah..." he sniffed. He felt his own tears as he watched the most jovial girl he knew began to cry. Nora hugged him again, and all his worries flushed out of him as he was reminded about the fact he was going to be a dad. The good aspects of being a dad took center stage as his fears were ushered away. Ren was right, he had people he could rely on, and Nora was a prime example of a friend with open arms. "I'm going to be a dad." He began to laugh as he felt the urge to sob.

"Congratulations," she said. "I know you'll be a terrific father."

Jaune gave in and cried into Nora's shoulder. She only held him until the tears were gone.
