Chapter Twenty-Eight: Recovery.

Curling up in her hospital bed, Caitlyn wished tried to drowned out the talking around her that was taking place; there had been so many questions and she had been poked and prodded since she had arrived. The doctors had done everything that they could to make her comfortable, even assigning her a female doctor while she was being admitted in case a male doctor might have been triggering for her.

Dr. Manning had reassured her that she had not broken any bones and had a few cuts and bruises, the main issues were that Caitlyn was underweight from the months where she had been held hostage by her captor. She was also severely dehydrated and had been put on a drip to try and bring her fluid levels back up, Dr. Charles would likely be popping by later but right now Caitlyn did not wish to talk to anyone.

There had been two uniformed police officers stationed outside of her room and Caitlyn doubted it would be long before people came in wanting answers to what had happened to her. A lump formed in her throat and Caitlyn wanted nothing more than to put what had happened behind her, forget the suffering that she had suffered at the hands of the man that claimed to be her father. The doors to her room slowly opened and Jay stepped inside, followed slowly by Alvin who seemed a little nervous to see Caitlyn and hoovered by the doors while Jay took the seat next to her.

"I just spoke to the DA, they do not think you will have to testify," Jay told her gently, he took her hand carefully not sure how she would take the news. They were certain that they had enough evidence on Edward to be sure that they did not need to have her on the stand, that she would not have to further suffer or stress herself out by facing him in court after what he had done to her.

Caitlyn had clung to Jay when they had finally gotten her out of the coffin that she had been buried in, not that he could blame her or say that he did any better when they had found her. The entire thing felt like a dream and Jay was relieved to say that he had not given up, he had not turned his back on her when she had needed someone to stand in her corner and vouch for her when she had not been able to do it for herself.

Caitlyn looked down at their joined hands, she had not said much since she had been brought to the hospital feeling exhausted by everything that had happened in the last few hours. It felt like a dream almost, like she had passed out in the coffin and her mind was making all of this up as a way to cope while she slowly ran out of oxygen.

"Is there anything you need? I think I have most of your stuff at my place, Mercedes said she can drop stuff off if you need it," Jay questioned not sure how to break the news to her that her stuff had been moved because she had been assumed dead. He dared not look back at Alvin, he wasn't sure what he would say to Caitlyn's uncle especially when he had given up and allowed the case to go cold; he had stopped looking for her assuming the worse when Jay had kept working the case.

That was something that could be discussed another day, although there was no stopping Caitlyn from finding out; it could be put on hold for now especially with Caitlyn in a hospital bed. Upsetting her further than needed was not the plan, she had been through a traumatic experience and he did not wish to add to that more than she had already suffered.

Shaking her head, Caitlyn peered at Jay's tired face and wanted nothing more than to sleep; she felt like she had been awake for a hundred years and she was pretty sure the drugs the doctors were giving her where starting to work. They had insisted that she stay for a couple of days, wanting to make sure that she was 100% before they let her go home and start her recovery there. It was going to be a long road and Caitlyn hated that everyone kept saying that it was over now, that she was alive and she could move on from this when she felt like this was far from the end.

Jay sighed and squeezed her hand before he moved back towards the door, he wasn't sure what to make of her silence but he knew that it could be nothing good. He looked at Alvin who seemed concerned about her silence as well, neither of them could guess what was going on inside Caitlyn's head right now.

Striding down the hallway of the hospital, Viola Wilson held her head high as she pondered the situation that had brought her to this place. Anger filled her that nobody had thought to inform her of the nightmare that had unfolded in her own family; the murder of her daughter and the abduction of her granddaughter was something that she should have been told about.

Despite her estrangement from Laura, Viola would give anything to see her daughter alive again and she wished that they could have reconciled before her death. Pushing aside the guilty that she felt at having not seen her daughter since Frank's funeral, Viola instead focused on the situation at hand and she hoped that Caitlyn would be happy to see her.

When the news had reached her that Laura had finally confessed the truth of Caitlyn's parentage to the girl; Viola had been torn on how to feel about such things. Even though she had kept her daughter's secret all of these years, Viola had encouraged Laura to speak her truth especially as Caitlyn got older; she had insisted that the girl deserved to know the truth about who her father was. It had been the fight that had caused Laura to stop speaking with her, her daughter's stubborn refusal to tell anyone the truth fearing what it might cost her even when it was eating her alive.

"Excuse me. I'm looking for Caitlyn Jones. I'm her grandmother," Viola asked a nurse when she reached the nursing station, her eyes glancing around the ward that she had been directed to. She was most certainly in the right place given the high police presence that was lingering in the hallways, she guessed that they had to step up now that Caitlyn had been found.

Upon hearing that Caitlyn had been found despite her case being classed as a cold one, the police having given up searching for her; Viola knew they'd want to cover their backs especially against any law suit now. The nurse helpfully pointed her to the right private room where Caitlyn was recovering and Viola thanked her before she strode towards the room and flashed a polite smile to the officers stationed outside.

The figure curled up in bed, looked very little like the granddaughter that she had adored and who would come visit her in California. Viola's heart broke at the sight of Caitlyn and she vowed to help her recover from all of this, she would do whatever Caitlyn needed right now even if that was getting away from the city that had caused all her problems.

"Caitlyn?" Viola whispered so not to scare her, she hated to wake the sleeping girl but she wanted her to know that she was not alone now. Her family would rally around her especially since there was likely going to be a media circus over the entire thing and there was no sign of Richard's family coming to support her. As far as Richard's family was concerned, Caitlyn and Laura were the reasons that Richard had been murdered by Edward; he had been cuckolded and forced to raise another man's child.

"Grandma?" Caitlyn said opening her eyes and moving to look at the woman that stood at the foot of her bed, tears filling her eyes when she realised that Viola had come to see her. It did not take much for the first tears to fall and when they did, Caitlyn found it hard to make them stop.

Viola wasted no time in stepping closer, a concerned look on her face and she knew it would be a long road to recovery for Caitlyn; she would need to speak with someone about the trauma that she had endured.

"Baby, it's going to be okay… I promise," Viola told her as she wrapped her arms gently around Caitlyn and pulled her into a hug, she held her close as Caitlyn wept into her shoulder. She held Caitlyn as she whispered reassuring words in her ears, Viola would take on the world for her granddaughter and she would never forgive those who had failed her in this way.

Edward could rot in prison for all she cared, he would never lay a hand on Caitlyn again nor would he see her again. The two of them stayed like that and Caitlyn was more than thankful that she was able to have her grandmother with her. The very idea of facing all this alone scared her and she did not know who to trust, she feared herself even more now especially given how easily she was prepared to give up on help coming for her.

Viola held Caitlyn as she cried, her eyes moving to look at the man that had paused outside of the hospital room and she knew that he had a lot of explaining to do for the situation Caitlyn had found herself in.
