Chapter Nineteen: Modern-Day Fairy Tale
The morning came and the sun shined brightly though Kagome's window onto the peaceful faces of two innocent children. Shippo, sprawled out over the floor, half on and off the bedding he made, was snoring just enough to make noise, but not enough to wake anyone. Little Rin was wrapped up in her blankets and clinging to a pillow that was half her size, like it was a big teddy bear she was keeping close. On the bed, Sesshomaru and Kagome were sleeping peacefully, but had shifted in their sleep sometime in the night. Kagome had her back to Sesshomaru, the two spooning with each other with one of Sesshomaru's arms acting as her pillow, the other wrapped around her waist. If only Kagome never shifted in her sleep…
Sesshomaru felt Kagome shift and woke up from a very comfortable sleep. His eyes first met the back of her head, her hair a couple inches from his face. It did not take long for Sesshomaru to realize what position they were in. His first instinct was to move, but when he tried, she shifted again and he feared waking her up if she still needed sleep. He froze and relaxed, watching her for a few moments before he heard some shifting behind him. He glanced over his shoulder to see Rin had sat up and was rubbing her eyes. His daughter looked over, so he quickly laid back down to pretend he was asleep. He wasn't ready to be bothered by anyone this morning and had to figure out how to escape the woman he was coiled around without waking her.
"Morning, Rin." The voice of a boy sounded to reveal that Shippo had also woken up.
"Good morning, Shippo." Rin said, trying to whisper to him. The children looked over to the bed at Sesshomaru's back. "They're still sleeping."
"We tricked them so good." Shippo held back a chuckle, trying not to wake the adults up.
"Do you think they'll make us brother and sister?" Rin asked.
"Huh? I don't know. Maybe." Shippo replied.
While the children were trying their best to be quiet, it wasn't working very well. Kagome woke up pretty quickly, but wouldn't dare move. She could feel Sesshomaru holding her and wasn't sure how to react. The children decided they were hungry and wanted a modern-day breakfast. They hurried out the door and slowly closed it behind them. The click of the door handle startled them, but they didn't go back inside. Instead, they could be heard rushing down the stairs to the kitchen to see who else had woken up already. With the children gone, Kagome slowly turned over and sat up, trying to gently move Sesshomaru's arm from around her waist. As she tried though, he moved it himself and she looked over to see him staring at her.
"Oh. Good morning, Sesshomaru." Kagome said with a relaxed smile, though there was a tint of red in her cheeks.
"Good morning." Sesshomaru replied as he sat up and brought his legs over the side of the bed. He looked down to the mattress and pushed at it. "This is a wonderful invention. I've never slept in such a comfortable bed before."
"So… you slept… well?" Kagome asked curiously, but there was an obvious second reason behind her question.
"I did." Sesshomaru glanced over his shoulder at her. The two stared at each other for a moment. "Did you?"
"I slept wonderfully." Kagome perked up a bit and smiled widely.
"Good." Sesshomaru stood up and stretched.
Kagome stood as well and walked over to the closet. She began picking out clothes for her, Sango, and Kikyo. She knew Kikyo would fit her clothes, but Sango notably had more muscle mass, so she picked clothes that were just a tad loose on her. Kagome set the outfits out before heading out to take a shower. It took her about ten minutes and she came back to the room to find Sesshomaru sitting on the bed.
"Why didn't you go downstairs?" Kagome asked, holding a towel around her.
"Traveling through someone else's residence is not polite." Sesshomaru explained while eyeing Kagome. "Why are you only wearing a towel?"
"I just got out of the shower. It's a common thing to walk from the bath to your room in a towel. As long as you're covered, it's okay." Kagome explained and walked over to the outfit she set out for herself. "Would you like to try out the shower? Maybe use some of the soaps my time has?"
"Yes." Sesshomaru said. He was actually interested in the strange bath he had been shown yesterday.
"Alright. Give me a second to get dressed and I'll show you how to use it." Kagome said and began changing. She motioned for him to turn around, so he turned his back to her to give her some privacy. She quickly changed into her new outfit, a basic light purple summer dress that reached her knees, and then led Sesshomaru to the bath. She showed him how to use the shower temperature gauges, the hand-held showerhead, and taught him what soaps were used for what. She gave him a towel and explained that she would bring him some modern-day clothes to use. She also remembered to warn him about water getting to hot and soap burning his eyes if he's not careful. She didn't want another repeated of Inuyasha. Luckily, Sesshomaru caught on quicker than his younger brother, probably because he actually listened and thought things through a bit more.
Kagome found her way to her Mother's room and picked out some old clothes of her late Father to fit Sesshomaru, Inuyasha, and Miroku. While Sesshomaru was showering, she set out those outfits on her bed as well. Soon, Sesshomaru ended up in her room with a towel wrapped around his waist. As he stepped in, Kagome immediately began blushing and turned away shyly, making Sesshomaru wonder what he did wrong.
"This is what you did." Sesshomaru accused.
"You're fine. I just…" Kagome sighed and shook her head. "Nothing. Here."
Kagome turned to him and gave him an outfit that she figured would fit him. It was just a pair of black slacks and a white collared button-up shirt. Sesshomaru took them and dropped the towel. Unlike Kagome, he did not care about the privacy that she seemed to need. With quick examination, he was able to figure out what went where. However, when he tried to put the pants on, Kagome stopped him.
"Put these on first. It'll make the pants a lot more comfortable." Kagome explained. It was a pair of black boxer briefs. "Don't worry. Never been worn."
"I see. What are they?" Sesshomaru asked. He slipped them on like they were supposed to be, Kagome averting her eyes from him the entire time.
"They're underwear. They're used for many reasons, including comfort, hygiene, and protection." Kagome explained.
"There. That okay?" Sesshomaru asked and Kagome looked back on instinct. She immediately looked away, the redness in her cheeks deepening. It was a curious sight. "You're the one who admitted that we've seen every ounce of each other. Why are you shy?"
"You're right." Kagome nodded and turned back to him, forcing herself to look at his eyes only. "But it's still new to me."
"I see. I apologize for the awkwardness then." Sesshomaru said as he continued to dress himself. Once he was done, Kagome giggled when she noticed he missed a single button on the shirt. She helped him correct it, during which Sesshomaru watched her closely. She finished with his shirt and looked up to him. Their eyes locked with each other and Kagome found herself lost in thoughts about him. Sesshomaru gently brushed some hair from her face, a gesture that caused her heart to race and he heard it clearly. It only made her seem more enticing to him. Sesshomaru found himself slowly leaning toward her, their lips aiming to touch. The two were close enough to feel the other's breath. Kagome leaned forward into him as well.
"Kagome! Sesshomaru! Breakfast is ready!" Ms. Higurashi's voice echoed up from the bottom floor.
"Coming, Mom." Kagome called back, but they never broke eye contact. "W-We should head downstairs."
"We should." Sesshomaru agreed and took a step back. He stepped over to the door, opened it, and gestured for her to go first. Kagome walked by him, placing a hand on his shoulder, allowing it to slide along his chest before she made her way downstairs. Sesshomaru stood silently in the doorway of Kagome's room. He took a deep breath and thought about what almost happened between them. He was ready to kiss her. He wanted to. If he did not get control of his own thoughts, things were going to go too far between them. He couldn't have that. It was too dangerous for them both.
Sesshomaru ended up down stairs less than a minute after Kagome. As he entered the room, everyone stopped and looked at him. The expressions on their faces were not like last night, when everything about what he did to Kagome was revealed. Instead, they were pleasantly surprised.
"You look so handsome." Ms. Higurashi said, but Sesshomaru didn't reply. He wasn't sure how to.
"I've got clothes for most of us set up in my room." Kagome explained and then turned to her Mother. "Do you have any of the clothes from when I was in the second or third grade? Or from when Sota was smaller? I need something for Rin and Shippo."
"Oh, I'm sure I have something. I saved so much. I'll check the storage room after breakfast." Ms. Higurashi said.
"Thanks Mom." Kagome said as she sat down to eat. There were a few too many people to sit at the table, so a couple of them had to sit behind the rest and were given trays to use. It was this morning that everyone learned about bacon, sausage, pancakes, scrambled eggs, waffles, syrup, and a lot more food that Ms. Higurashi cooked up for them. The children loved the waffles and pancakes more than anything. Inuyasha and Sesshomaru preferred the cooked meats. Everyone else seemed to enjoy everything they were given. It was party around the table. The biggest conversation ended up being about the bedding in the house. The blankets and pillows were loved, but the sheets on the bed were amazing and the mattress was so comfortable. Sango found she really enjoyed having the small air mover, what Kagome called a fan, blowing the air in the room while they slept.
"Your home is lovely and thank you so much for allowing us to stay." Sango said to Ms. Higurashi and Grandpa.
"We're delighted to have you!" Grandpa said cheerfully, taking the words right out of Ms. Higurashi's mouth.
Once breakfast was done, Kagome showed Sango and Kikyo how to put on modern clothing. They were going to be introduced to bras, but both women were adamant that they were not going to be wearing them. They were tight and uncomfortable. Kagome gave in, but insisted on the underwear, since both girls were wearing dresses. They agreed to that since this was way more revealing than they were used to. Kikyo found herself in a red and white dress that Kagome chose specifically to keep with the normal color scheme. Though, Kikyo insisted on wearing her normal sandals. Sango was wearing a black skirt that was a little longer than Kagome's school uniform and a light pink skirt decorated with a big red heart over the bust.
"Kagome…" Sango looked down at the differences between her and the other two women. Kikyo had no hair on her legs for obvious reasons. Kagome kept hers shaved like most modern-day girls did. Sango had never dealt with that before. It was something she noticed many times, but because she always wore her uniform, it was never an issue. Now, her legs were being shown to the world and it felt… icky.
"I'll show you how." Kagome nodded and led Sango to the bath. It took them about ten minutes to get done. Sango cut herself around the ankle once, but Kagome put a bandage on it and it was fine. Sango loved the feeling of her smooth legs. It was so new and soft. "Miroku will love it."
"Oh, shush, Kagome." Sango giggled like a school girl.
The two made their way down stairs. Everyone else had gotten dressed as well. Kohaku wore some clothes that were too big for Sota, a pair of jeans and a blue short-sleeved t-shirt. Rin was in one of Kagome's old spring dresses, covered in little pink flowers and had a new bow in her hair. Shippo was having problems. He didn't have human feet, so he couldn't easily wear shoes. Luckily, Ms. Higurashi put him in some socks and old baby shoes. It wasn't perfect, but if he wanted to hang out with the rest when they left, he had to deal with it. Shippo looked darling in the little navy-blue suit pants and jacket Ms. Higurashi gave him though. He looked like a little gentleman. Inuyasha was given something similar to Sesshomaru, except the slacks were dark blue and the button up suit-shirt was black. Sesshomaru ended up having to copy Kagome and helped Inuyasha button his shirt right. Kaede was actually told her current clothes would bother no one. The outfit wasn't common, but because of her age, people wouldn't bother her.
When the group was off, the men were told to leave their weapons behind. They were reluctant, but chose to comply. After that, their first obstacle was the long stone staircase. Shippo and Rin were carried by Kagome and Sesshomaru. Kaede was carried by Inuyasha. There was no way she'd be able to easily take those stairs and continue the journey in this new world without slowing people down too much. The help was appreciated. The first stop was the movie theater. It was early on a Tuesday morning, so it wasn't busy at all. Most people were at work or school. At the movie theater, Kagome chose an action-packed adventure movie to watch. She explained to everyone that it's just a story in the form of moving pictures. They were to take it at face value, as if someone was just telling them a story with illusion magic. Doing this helped them stay calm when things got loud and graphic. There were a few times that Rin and Shippo covered their eyes. Kohaku found himself relating to one of the characters that hurt his family on accident.
Once the movie was over, Inuyasha was pumped up and wanting to do battle. He punched the air in front of him excitedly and kept talking about how real everything looked. Sango, Kikyo, and Kagome found more interest in the little love triangle that went on. Kaede found the plot too violent for her tastes and wanted to move on to their next adventure. This time, it was all about the children. Kagome took them to a nearby park that had a nice ice cream shop next to it. First, she taught Shippo, Rin, and Kohaku how to use the swings. Kohaku learned how to swing himself quickly, but Rin enjoyed Sesshomaru pushing her like Kagome pushed Shippo. The rest relaxed under the shades of trees, acting as onlookers for a while.
"Kagome's a wonderful mother, isn't she?" Kikyo said.
"She is." Sango and Miroku said in unison.
"Are you two planning on having children?" Kaede called Sango and Miroku out a bit.
"Of course." Miroku said proudly, a big smile on his face. "We'll have nine or ten. I'm not sure yet."
"Hey!" Sango glared at him. "You're not the one that has to carry them, remember?"
"Okay, how about three or four?" Miroku smiled softly at Sango.
"Fine… Maybe three… or four. I don't know." Sango blushed shyly and looked back toward her brother and the rest.
"Do you think I would have been a good mother?" Kikyo suddenly asked, catching everyone off guard.
"Of course. Ye' would have been a wonderful mother." Kaede assured her sister confidently.
"I chose a different path in life, one that I sometimes regret. Seeing Kagome with Shippo… I regret it more." Kikyo sighed sadly, but the small smile she had while watching Kagome with the children never left. She looked over to Inuyasha when she felt his hand touch her shoulder.
"While you never had any children of your own, you've helped raise dozens of kids." Inuyasha reminded her of times of her past. "You were a mother to many, guiding them on, making them laugh and love, teaching them to survive in ways others couldn't. You've impacted many lives in the same way a mother is supposed to. That fact right there proves that you have the heart and soul of a mother. You would have been amazing."
"Thank you, Inuyasha." Kikyo felt like she could cry tears of joy and hated her body for not allowing her to.
As Inuyasha and Kikyo shared a tender moment, the others ended their play on the swings and came over. Rin and Shippo were really energetic and went on about how swinging was fun and that everyone should try it. Kohaku sat down and nudged his sister, insisting that she and Miroku try the swings too.
"Isn't it for kids?" Sango asked Kagome.
"Nope. I've swung on that thing hundreds of times. If you guys wanna try it, go ahead." Kagome encouraged them. Sango decided to have Kohaku teach her how to do it on her own. Inuyasha went to push Kikyo, though she learned to do it on her own by watching Sango learn from Kohaku. The group was having a wonderful time trying these things that seemed so simple to Kagome. It was a beautiful sight that brought joy to Kagome's heart.
After a while, their adventures in the park were coming to an end. More children began showing up as school got out. Kagome took that as her cue to get everyone some ice cream. They went across to the street to the shop and Kagome began explaining as many of the flavors as she could. When the employees looked confused, she used the 'different country, never had ice cream' excuse and they became excited to serve them. Many recommendations were thrown out, especially for the kids. Of course, many samples were tried this day. In the end, most of them got bowls. Inuyasha wanted chocolate, Kaede, Kikyo and Sango were fine with the simplicity of vanilla, Miroku and Kohaku wanted chocolate chip cookie dough, and Sesshomaru copied Kagome's strawberry with chocolate syrup. Shippo and Rin got two chocolate dipped cones with vanilla ice cream. Since the group tried so many samples, Kagome gave the employees a rather large tip to make up for some of the complications, like Inuyasha spitting out mint ice cream. He didn't get it in anything and Kikyo scolded him nice and sternly for behaving like that, but it was still embarrassing.
By the time they got out of the shop, it was midafternoon. Kagome wanted to take the girls shopping, but had decided against it. It would probably bore the men and what would they do with those clothes back in their own time? It'd be a waste of her mother's money, even if it was fun. It was better to do things that would be fun, last as good memories, and not hurt her family financially. Now, dinner was something on her mind.
"Hey, I know we're not hungry now, but in a couple of hours we will be." Kagome brought up as they all walked through the streets. She hurried in front of the group and began walking backwards to talk to them. "Is there any food you'd like to try? I think it might be best to pick something up instead o-… Pizza. Oh my god, you have to try pizza. It's this world wide food that practically every country goes nuts for. We should head back to the house so Mom doesn't start dinner. It'll be nice to give her a break from cooking since she's done a lot in two da-…"
As Kagome began walking backwards by an alley, a man in all black, sunglasses, and a beanie charged her. She didn't even see him coming. While grabbing her purse, the man tackled her right into the safety of Sesshomaru's arms. At the same time, Sango stepped forward and shoved her fist into the guy's face and sent him straight to the floor. The ruckus caught the attention of everyone around. Kagome blinked in surprise on how quickly that happened.
"Wow." One onlooker said.
"Thanks, Sango." Kagome chuckled as she grabbed her purse back from the robber. "Wrong group, pal."
"Yeah, who the hell do you think you are?" Inuyasha grabbed the guys shirt and lifted him to his feet.
"N-No. I don't want any trouble." The robber said in a panic. He was lifted from his feet with ease.
"Then why the hell are you starting it?" Inuyasha shook him harshly once and then threw him to the ground. "Idiot. Get out of here."
As the robber stood up and went to run, Inuyasha grabbed his beanie and pulled it off. The robber freaked out as his bald head was revealed and ran off crying. Inuyasha looked at the beanie and smirked. He decided he liked the thing and put it on his own head.
"There. Forgot I am supposed to wear a hat here." Inuyasha turned back. "I'm surprised no one noticed the ears."
"When you're in a big group like this, most people will assume it's part of a costume or something." Kagome explained.
"Are ye' alright, Kagome?" Kaede asked.
"Yeah, I'm okay. He pushed me, but nothing else." Kagome explained a she examined her purse. Everything was intact.
"We have been out for some time now." Kaede said. "It'd be nice if we returned to your home. I'm getting rather tired."
With little more to do and some people needing a break, it was decided that they would return to Higurashi Shrine. It was a thirty-minute walk back and as they made it into the house, Kaede sat back down on the couch and fell asleep within a couple of minutes. Kagome put a blanket over her and a pillow behind her head, instructing everyone to be quiet so she could rest. Kagome told her mother about ordering pizza and once the order was set, she led everyone upstairs to her room. It was a tight fit, but with Kaede needing her rest, it was the only place they could be without disturbing her.
"Today was fun. Thank you, Kagome, for showing us your world." Miroku sat on the floor and leaned against the closet door. Kagome, Sango, and Kikyo sat comfortably on Kagome's bed. Sesshomaru sat on her desk chair and Inuyasha sat on the window frame. The children took the floor.
"I'm glad everyone had fun." Kagome said, smiling at everyone around the room.
"So, where is this pizza thing?" Inuyasha asked.
"It's on its way. They deliver it to you." Kagome said.
"Will we cook this pizza in the kitchen? I enjoyed using it." Kikyo questioned.
"Actually, no. It comes already warm and ready to eat." Kagome explained. "All you have to do is answer the door and they hand it over."
"Wow. Already cooked food just comes to the door?" Rin asked in amazement and Kagome nodded.
That little discovery led Kagome to explaining the advancements in agriculture, clothes production, and everything else people of her own time take advantage of. She talked about the medicines, clean water, and even brought up the weapons used in wars. Some of what she described terrified the group, especially when things like nuclear bombs were brought up. That subject was luckily cut off by Ms. Higurashi knocking on the door.
"Pizza is here. Kaede is awake and already has a slice." Ms. Higurashi explained and everyone hurried down stairs.
Kagome was ready to step out of the room, but realized she wasn't the last like she thought. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Sesshomaru still sitting at her desk, deep in thought about something. She watched him for a moment and then walked over, tapping on his shoulder.
"You okay?" Kagome asked.
"I'm curious about something." Sesshomaru said as he stood up. "Where are all the demons?"
"You know, I've thought about that a lot." Kagome said sadly, taking in a deep breath. "I hate to say it, Sesshomaru, but I believe some time in the last five hundred years, demons have either fled to hidden worlds, gone into hiding, or been killed off… Those weapons I was telling you about are no joke. As gun powder and more advanced weaponry became more popular, I'm sure demons had a harder time against what humans could do. It also doesn't help that humans reproduce at ten times the rate as demons, so the population likely grew and demons were overwhelmed. It's only a theory, but it makes sense."
"It does. It's bothersome." Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes angrily.
"I'm sorry. Still, it is possible that demons are just somewhere humans can't get to." Kagome told him.
"That's likely." Sesshomaru nodded, but he wasn't so sure. Either way, this was hopefully a long way off.
"Let's go get dinner." Kagome took his hand and led him down stairs. She didn't hold on the entire time. Once they reached the top of the stairs, she let go so she could use the railing. At least, that was her visual excuse. She really just wasn't sure if she wanted to get caught getting closer to him yet.
With six different pizzas ordered, everyone tried different flavors, from pepperoni, to ham, to sausage, to just plain ol' cheese. Everyone enjoyed their time around the table again and pizza seemed to be something that everyone liked. Of course, Inuyasha and Sesshomaru preferred the pizza with a heavier amount of meat on it. The group finished up dinner and relaxed for the rest of the night. Some took walks around the shrine, others slept, talked, or watched television. Shippo and Rin fell asleep on the floor watching TV. Not wanting to wake them, they were covered up and everyone retired to their respective rooms. It wasn't exactly late, but they had a long, busy, event-filled day. The moment Inuyasha's head hit a pillow, he was out. Kikyo chose to enjoy some music on a radio that Kagome taught her to use. Sango and Miroku locked their door, making everyone a tad suspicious, but were left alone.
Kagome and Sesshomaru changed into more comfortable clothing; Kagome used the closet door to hide herself. Once in her pajamas and Sesshomaru in old shorts and a t-shirt, the two sat opposite each other. He was on her desk chair and she sat on the bed. Neither of them was sure what to talk about at the moment. It was an awkward silence at first, but Kagome was able to break it with some basic conversation.
"Did you have fun today?" Kagome asked.
"I did. Seeing Rin happy was rewarding." Sesshomaru replied.
"I'm glad." Kagome sighed and laid back on the bed, arms stretched out. She stared up at the ceiling. "I was so worried that something would go terribly wrong. Everyone adjusted so well. It was the most fun I've had in a long time. At the movies, I thought Inuyasha would attack the screen and we'd be arrested. At the park, I feared the one of the children would run off and get lost or worse. While walking around the city, I was constantly imagining someone stepping out in front of a car, but nothing happened. No one got hurt or mad. Even with the purse snatcher… No bad happened."
"Did taking everyone out stress you out that much?" Sesshomaru asked.
"M'hm. It was so fun, but there are so many little things that could happen." Kagome explained. "A sign could fall and hit someone in the head. A car accident could run off the streets and into crowds. One of you could have been allergic to something you ate."
"If it's that stressful, we could go back." Sesshomaru said.
"No." Kagome sat up and shook her head. "Any stress I feel is nothing in comparison to the joy of seeing all of you happy."
"That's kind." Sesshomaru said. He stared at Kagome with a softness that she wasn't used to. All Kagome could do was smile back.
"You ready for bed?" Kagome asked, covering her mouth as she yawned.
"Yes." Sesshomaru stood up and walked over. He slid his arms under Kagome and picked her up, placing her on what was 'her side' of the bed, between him and the wall. He slid into the bed as well and once again kept that foot of space between them. "Kagome, it's only been a little over two months."
"Huh?" Kagome replied in confusion.
"Since this all began. Since I hurt you. It's been less than three months." Sesshomaru brushed some hair out of her face.
"I know. It's felt so much longer…" Kagome brought her hand up to his and held on.
"How do you trust me so quickly?" Sesshomaru asked. "And is it me you trust, or is it the power of the mark that you trust?"
"Sesshomaru… Is it you that just brushed my hair from my face, almost kissed me this morning, slept in the same bed with me last night?" Kagome countered his points with her some of her own. "Or is it the power of the mark that has done all of that?"
"I don't know." Sesshomaru said with honest disappointment.
"Neither do I." Kagome smiled, let a tear fall from her eye and onto the pillow. "So, as far as I'm concerned, whatever is happening here, whether it's being guided by some uncontrollable force or not, I am going to try my best to be happy. The fact of the matter is, we're having a baby and by the laws of demon kind, I'm your wife. These are facts, right?"
"Right." Sesshomaru nodded.
"Then let's take what we know is true and do the best we can with it." Kagome said, more tears streaming from her eyes as she talked. "You once told me that you were going to be an honorable mate. Well, Sesshomaru, I promise you the same thing. I will act as an honorable mate and do my best to be a good mother to our child. I promise to be loyal, respectful, and to care for you as a mate should."
"Kagome…" Sesshomaru was speechless. Her tears bothered him.
"Can I just ask one thing of you during this time we're together?" Kagome sniffled, wiping the tears away.
"Of course. What is it?" Sesshomaru replied, staring her straight in the eyes.
"Please, just be gentle with me." Kagome begged. Those words went deeper than their surface meaning and Sesshomaru could tell. She couldn't stop crying, even though she really was trying. The woman laying next to him was strong, but so vulnerable right now. With everything that happened to her in these three passing months, she had to be one of the strongest women he had met. She was violated, lost a love, gained an unwilling husband, gained a son, and found out she was pregnant. That isn't even mentioning the physical trauma her body had gone through, and not just with him, but with Yomiaki's men and Naraku's attack as well. With so little time for recovery, it was no surprise she couldn't stop crying. Sesshomaru wiped the tears from her face, taking in a slow breath as he watched her.
"She's trying so hard not to break…" Sesshomaru realized and then wrapped his arms around her. "I will, Kagome. I promise."
