Makoto and Kyoko got back into the plane.
"I think that he still needs some rest." Naegi glanced over at their sleeping pilot.
"Let's talk in my room then." She suggested.
After her friend grabbed his earpiece from his place, they went into her room and closed the door so as not to wake up their airman.
"Byakuya? Are you there?" Ultimate Hope asked after unmuting his earphone.
"Yes, as might be expected I'm waiting for your report." Togami immediately replied.
"We made it! The President agreed for two tons per unit but hopes for discounts." He informed.
"Very well. Now get out of there and head to the next country. I have a meeting scheduled with our government so I'll call you later." Byakuya apprised.
"I didn't give them my speech yet. We'll be flying to New York now as he suggested." Makoto stated.
"We do not have time for that." He objected.
"You told me that the world needs my speeches, and that's one of the reasons why you chose me." Naegi argued.
"Fine then, just do it quickly." Ultimate affluent progeny disconnected.
"He chose you because you're a hero, after all, your hope killed Junko. Everyone respects you except for Togami." Kirigiri asserted.
"I already told you, he's not our enemy." He assured.
"Anyway, we need to talk about something else." Kyoko said and sat on his bed along with her friend.
"What's on your mind?" Makoto questioned.
"If you want to ease your trauma you need to tell me about what you saw in the elevator. I know that you don't want to remind it but I think that it's worth it to fight your anxiety. Don't keep it bottled up, tell me." She insisted.
"Your talent requires you to mute your emotions right? Well, mine requires me to ignore the negative ones. Sometimes it stacks up and I need to get it out of myself that's pretty much it." Naegi smiled.
"Don't treat it like it's not a big deal. Please tell me about it." Kirigiri persisted.
"Fine.. I saw our dead classmates except for Junko with their wounds in the elevator that led to the court. They were leaking blood from their mouths and, then they started getting up, all staring, with looks as if I owed them their lives... Sayaka was standing in front of me holding my hands. She stepped closer, grabbed my cheek and, I saw you.." Makoto told and lay down. "And now I'm bothering your head with my stupid nightmares..."
She lay next to him. "You need to tell me more about her, there is something important I don't know.. I have a feeling like she's hunting you for long already isn't she?" Kyoko rotated her head towards his side.
"..When you were "dead", I had a suicide dream because of the hypnotic video. She appeared in front of me, a moment after you too behind my back, both calling me to join you..." He said staring at the ceiling.
"There's no connection between me and her... Tell me about your last conversations before her death." Kirigiri suggested.
"They were private talks between her and me. I don't know if I should share-"
"I want to help you ditch the past Makoto, that's the key information I need to do so." She insisted.
"..She, s-she was.. she was talking about our, potential relationship after we would get out..."
Naegi confessed with a blush.
"And she used your naivety to commit the murder she planned, now it's all coming together..." Kyoko concluded.
"Do you really think that she just did it for the crime? I mean, hang out with me and stuff.."
"Unfortunately it seems like that's the bitter truth." She replied.
"Now that I look at it again, how could I be so naive I mean, why would a pop star with god knows how many fans hang out with just some lucky student right?" Naegi chuckled.
"That's what you're telling yourself but we both know that you're wrong. You were much more than just a lucky student even back then." Kirigiri assured but her friend chuckled even louder. "I appreciate your help Kiri I really do, but what I value more is your honesty."
"That's exactly it." She reassured.
"Well, thanks then I guess heh..." Makoto sat up and stretched his hands to hide his pink cheeks. "I feel a lot better after just telling you all of this, thanks Kiri.. You must have a lot of stuff to confess as well right? Why don't we talk about you now?" He proposed.
"No need." She stood up with a small smile which quickly vanished after she saw Junko sitting next to him and happily swinging her legs.
"Is something wrong?" Naegi asked after noticing the sudden change on her face.
"I just need to use the bathroom." She lied and went towards the door. "Remember that they didn't kill to survive. Their sins are theirs, and you owe them nothing." Kyoko went to her room.
"To ditch the past? That was a fucking good line! You could've just said to ditch that bitch Sayaka that would be more direct!" Enoshima jumped on Kirigiri's bed and busted out laughing. "They were quite some lovebirds back in the day, ya' know, first love, must be sentimental for him. I mean would have been if he only had his high school memories! Booyah! Not only she's gone but he can't even remember the good time they had! You gotta thank me bestie, for real! She shouted.
Kirigiri opened her tube with pills.
"Too bad that my effort was for nothing because after all, you don't know how to love."
Junko stated and made her former victim hesitate to take the pill. "Yeah I ain't talking about making out, you just don't know how to love someone. It's not a big surprise tho I mean, a detective cold like ice who renounced emotions.. You can't see my memories but I can see yours." She giggled.
"And what do you know about love after killing your own sister in cold blood for some masochistic pleasure." Kyoko accused.
"It wasn't just SOME masochistic pleasure. It felt like hundreds of orgasms stacked on one another! Even though that's not a very good comparison for a virgin like you." Enoshima mocked and guffawed.
"You're the smartest person in human history yet you can't make up a good joke." Ultimate Detective pointed out.
"Your all worthless lives are funny enough for me, no offense of course bestie. Alright, but getting to the point, it would be great if you could finally make a bigger move towards him cause I'm getting reaaaally bored in your head here since I already studied all the crimes you investigated. You're a pretty fucking boring girl besides those. Oh also they'll end up nuking themselves so saving them with your magic brain fixers won't do much. Just go all in and enjoy life from now on!" She cheered.
Kyoko swallowed her pill.
"You do know that pills start to work after around 10 minutes right? So me fading away immediately after you take them is just my goodwill." Junko stated.
"Thanks a lot." Kirigiri appreciated with sarcasm and crossed her hands waiting for the Ultimate Despair to disappear.
"Okay fine, go back to him~." She smiled and vanished.
Ultimate Detective went back to her friend's room. "So summing up, the despairs started to take over territories all around the world under the Monokuma flag and they are probably in the possession of nuclear weapons."
"Do you think that they have a leader?" Makoto asked.
"We'll have to find out. If any nuclear explosions haven't started yet then their actions are likely controlled by someone that's giving them orders not to blow people up yet. But these are just my assumptions." She answered.
"So they might be a giant terrorist organization, but how do they communicate? The internet is still off and it's not coming back anytime soon." Naegi questioned.
"There are many options, none of them as efficient as through the web but it's not impossible... Fortunately, with all the gold our country is going to rebuild quicker than any other and become the safest place on earth." Kirigiri foretold.
"Well that's the plan but, what then? Do we let other people die? There are still billions of survivors, I hope.." He worried.
"We cannot save them. All we can do is to make sure that we're safe, that our students are safe. This is a nuclear war Makoto, humanity is endangered at this point. You'll be already risking your life for people you don't know by giving them speeches in the menacing cities." Kyoko pointed out.
"Yeah maybe you're right, maybe our vocation is to continue Hope's Peak, and lead it the right way. But what will our graduates do afterward? Will they go spread their talents around a radioactive landfill that earth will be?" Makoto asked a rhetorical question.
"You always care about the others so much. But don't forget that this is the most pessimistic scenario." She reminded.
"Let's get to work and hope for the most optimistic one then. After that, we'll think of-"
"After that, we're staying at school, you promised." Kirigiri interrupted her friend with a serious voice.
"T-that's what I meant, we'll think of, all the great things we'll do at school, heh." He assured.
"Mhm sure." She replied with sarcasm and a smirk on her face because of detecting his obvious lie.
They got out of Makoto's room and stood over their pilot.
"We have to take off now, time to get up." Naegi took their airman's hat off his face.
"Yes sir!" He immediately got up.
"Huh? Were you even sleeping?" Makoto asked.
"I was let's say hibernating, it's my super-efficient sleep technique." He smiled.
"Oh okay then.. By the way, how can we call you?" Ultimate Hope questioned.
"I'm Ryo. Friends call me Ryo but you can call me Ryo." Their flyer chuckled and wore his hat.
"S-sure thing Ryo." Naegi rubbed his own head and smiled back even though he didn't find the joke funny.
Kyoko rolled her eyes and sat in her passenger seat.
After less than two hours of flight, she called for her friend. "Makoto, you need to see this..."
He came to the window and took a binocular from his former classmate. Then he saw the Statue of Liberty converted into a giant Junko Enoshima's monument with explosive charges mounted onto it.
