"Let's disarm ourselves before we die from overheating." She said going into her bathroom.
"It'll get cold in a moment. Besides, we definitely shouldn't feel at home now." Makoto argued and sat on her couch.
"Just do what I said, will you?" Kyoko requested with annoyance in her voice.
"Fine fine.." He took off his three layers and wore back the second one - his white dress shirt.
"Close your eyes." Kirigiri commanded as she joined his former classmate in her elegant wear.
"Are you sure we can't do this some other time?" Naegi asked stubbornly but swiftly closed his eyes after seeing his friend's frowned face.
She smiled after seeing him succumb so quickly because of her acting. "Now breathe in with your nose and breathe out with your mouth until you'll feel relief. Focus on making the exhales longer than the inhales. Your heart rate will go down if you do it properly."
"Alright, I'll try.." Makoto followed her order starting by taking a breath.
After a while, Kyoko put her gloved hand on his belly. "You need to breathe deeper."
His body tensed up for a second after feeling her touch but afterward, he quickly got back to himself and continued the exercise.
"You're doing well." She praised and placed her hand back on her leg.
"...Can I stop?" Naegi peeked at his friend with one eye.
"Do you feel any better?" Kirigiri asked curiously.
"Uh, I'm sorry but I don't think it's taking effect. I truly appreciate that you want to help me but-"
"You're experiencing quite an intense stress I get it. Don't worry, I've got a trick for it as well." Kyoko interrupted and took an aluminum foil paper out of her suitcase. It contained a half-eaten chocolate bar which got a bit deformed because of the desert's temperature. "It's an old habit of mine, I eat a piece whenever the first method fails to work. Try it."
"Thanks, I'll taste it with pleasure." His face got covered with a grin and his eyes shined as he didn't eat sweets for weeks. "It can't magically relax me but hey, I won't mind eating some good chocolate." Makoto thought, broke off a piece, and put it in his mouth.
"How is it?" She questioned.
"Mmm.." Naegi let out a sound of ecstasy. "It's very good, even outstanding I would say." He said with a smile and shut his eyes enjoying every second of the sweet flavor surrounding his tongue.
"It has sedatives in it." Kirigiri lied.
"What? Y-you mean drugs?" Makoto stopped chewing the rest of the chocolate, opened his eyes wide, and glanced at his friend nervously.
"Non-addictive and non-destructive to your organism, but most importantly taking effect in a flash. Keep it. You need it more than I do." She offered him the rest of the chocolate.
"Are you sure it's safe? W-what's the safe daily dosage?" Naegi hesitated to take her item.
"It's perfectly safe until you eat more than.. two pieces a day." Kyoko came up with a random number.
"Okay but, are there any side effects or-"
"I would've told you if it had." Kirigiri interrupted still offering him her made-up medicine. "..What is it? Do you have trust issues with me?"
"Pff- please Kiri, you know I trust you more than anyone." He smiled and eventually accepted his former classmate's gift placing it on his pile of clothes.
"More than Komaru?" Kyoko raised her eyebrow after hearing the statement her friend said with ease.
"Equally. I trust you and Komaru more than anyone else." Makoto corrected himself.
"So you're basically putting me on the same level as your family." She deduced.
"Well you said that you would only show your hands to your family so, I guess we're even.."
Naegi rubbed his head shyly. "I'm sorry but I'm curious, why would someone produce a chocolate medication? Or was it just your unique order?"
"I thought you didn't have time to waste but now you're investigating the origins of my cocoa sweet." Kirigiri pointed out.
"Oh, y-you're right. I just, forgot for a second.." He dove back deep into his thoughts.
"The only thing we can do now is to put our faith in the Ultimate Special Unit really. All we have are two pistols, a few magazines, and some grenades." Kyoko summed up.
"I'm sure there's more at the hangars!" Makoto didn't show any will to give up.
"...Let's face reality. Even if there were more weapons, you wouldn't be able to kill anyone." She stated.
"..And would you?" Naegi looked into her eyes innocently.
"It's better if we don't find out." Kirigiri said escaping his gaze.
"But we can't just wait here to get captured!" He argued.
"We could try setting up some traps, but they would have to be deadly. Either way, I don't think it would do much. They must be armed, qualified soldiers and with your pacifistic approach, our hands are tied." Kyoko assumed.
"..Do you think that it's naive to think like this?" Makoto asked silently looking down.
"It's not naive, I actually think it's truly admirable. But being strong mentally doesn't mean that you have to take the burden of everyone's lives on your back. You'll keep having nightmares if you don't change your mind." She /TODO
"Who cares about my dreams anyway? They're not real, people's lives are." Naegi said firmly.
"I care. Someone's gotta care for the one who cares for everyone."Kirigiri tried hard to replicate the cheerful smile of her friend.
"Thanks, Kiri.." He looked away with a grin. "Somehow I'm not having any nightmares recently so I guess you're doing a good job." He joked.
"Oh um, I.. I'm glad to hear that but, I don't do anything special to prevent them, or, n-not on purpose." Kyoko slowly brushed her hair away.
"Um, okay?" Makoto chuckled unsurely. "What do you mean?"
"Nothing." She responded immediately wanting to cut the topic off. As she felt a blush spreading on her cheeks, she put her hand on her mouth and cleared her throat.
"Can you hear it?" Naegi questioned straightening up.
"Yes, I had to clear my throat because-"
"Not this, the engines! Lots of engines!" He shouted. "Not all villagers left yet! We have to give them more time!" Makoto got up to run but got stopped by his former classmate who grabbed his hand.
"We can't give up then, we'll have to act as we resist." Kirigiri got up and put her vest on seeing her friend nod and do the same.
"Do we take the grenades as well?" Naegi asked while putting his pistol and chocolate in his vest's pockets.
"It'll make our diversion believable so why not." She replied.
The two Ultimates hung two explosives each on their clip hooks and went out of the hotel to see a convoy formed of several military trucks and modified pickups with machine guns mounted on their beds. In the distance, they could even notice two tanks. All of the vehicles had colors that matched the environment.
Both of the killing games survivors felt a sudden wave of sweat and fear. They tried to hide it, of course the ultimately composed detective with better effect.
"What is the point of their camouflage if their flags reveal them from far away anyway." Makoto pointed out trying to sound like he wasn't afraid of the vehicles driving toward them.
"Seems like they prefer style over tactical advantage." Kyoko assumed keeping her emotionless voice. "Stay cool and do what I do."
The Ultimate Detective walked up to the begging of the road and put her hands behind her back. Her former classmate followed her moves and stood right next to her.
The first military truck was just 30 meters away but didn't seem to be slowing down.
"Kiri they're gonna-" He wanted to move but got stopped by his friend who grabbed his forearm tightly.
"Hold." Kyoko stated calmly.
Naegi gulped a few seconds before the vehicle suddenly stopped at the very last moment touching their legs. "Phew.. her intuition is just astonishing." He thought.
A middle-aged man with a pretty long red beard got out of the truck. He was wearing a military cap and a bulletproof vest which were both creamy.
"It looks like you've got the balls for both of you Mrs. Kirigiri." The soldier chuckled and lit up a cigarette laying himself against the truck.
"What do you want." Makoto asked with a frowned face.
"What do I want?" He grabbed the cig in his hand and let out a long stream of smoke. "And who am I?"
"A remnant of despair." Kirigiri answered coldly.
"I meant what do I do?" The soldier asked once again.
"You look like a soldier, that belongs to the despairs army." Naegi assumed.
"Yeah, and what does a soldier want? To fucking execute his orders!" He horse-laughed.
"What orders." Kyoko questioned keeping calm.
"What orders what fucking orders.." The bearded man mumbled to himself. "I'm afraid it's none of your business sweetheart." The soldier walked past them to stare at the village.
The Ultimates both turned to glance at his back.
"The hamlet is clean of people." Makoto assured. "We're the only ones left."
"I appreciate that you want to help us out Mr. Naegi, it's an honor." He turned back to them with a smile. "But please let us do the dirty work, will you?"
Before Naegi got a chance to gasp for air to answer, his mouth got covered with a wet cloth. He wanted to take it off but prior to he could move his hands he got stuck in the tight embrace of another soldier. The tall kidnapper picked him up so the Ultimate Hope had absolutely no chance of freeing himself. He looked right only to find out that his friend was in the same situation.
"How generous of you, thank you for your agreement." The remnant threw down his cigarette and looked down with a mischievous smile. Then he stepped on his litter and began walking past the vehicles shouting something in the probably local language.
"MPHHH! M-MHPHH!" Makoto continued struggling, unlike his former classmate whose hands went down loosely. With his slowly closing eyes, he could see several soldiers heading towards the village with creamy backpacks and not very advanced assault rifles that had wooden stocks. A few seconds later a few pickups started following them at low speed.
With this view, Naegi shut his eyes and doze off with the hope that all the villagers were already gone. He didn't even have time to realize that he and his colleague were just captured by the biggest terrorist organization in human history.
