A few extra scenes to liven it up, is all I'm saying. (This was my personal favorite!)

Every step or turn ripped their fabric and skin. Ellie felt every sting and bump, but didn't care. Nor did she slow down, despite the terror pinching across her chest. She had fallen to the back of the group as they stumbled forward. The tunnels were tight, uncounseled by the light their flashlights- and Alan's torch- gave off. Still, they should be getting wider, if they were any closer to the mining entrance. Too bad the roars and snarls sounded even closer.

"Go!" Ellie pushed Maisie even faster, brandishing her own flashlight behind them. It hit something, but she couldn't tell what. If it slowed the dimetrodons down, it was worth it. The tunnel suddenly broke open, one side falling into another pool. That was where Ellie felt the nip at her heels.

"Up ahead, here!" Alan cried out, but Ellie's balance was already gone.

"Dr. Sattler!" Maisie screamed as Ellie hit the water. Chilly and murky, it closed over her head. Her hands searched for the surface, panic fully seizing her lungs. She broke back through, her first instinct screaming. "Alan!"

Ripples caught her attention, right as the tail disappeared beneath the swaying surface. The dimetrodon's fin was cutting towards her, smooth as silk. And she was out of flashlights! Ellie dodged for the edge, but the water weighed her clothes. Where was the bottom? Why couldn't she get any traction?! Maisie reached out, grabbing her hands as the fin neared. They both screamed, even as Alan's torch came down on the dinosaur's side. Its head burst out in agony; Ellie got her foot up and kicked it under the chin. Her boot then found the head as leverage and she helped Maisie pull her out of the water.

"Hurry!" Alan shook water from the torch, somehow still lit. "They're still-"

Ellie's chin scrapped the rock with the sudden jerk to her leg. In one swift second, she was back under, water rushing her mouth where she would've screamed. Instead, she kicked and squirmed against the teeth in her calf. The dimetrodon turned her over, almost in a dead roll. Her hands hit bottom, she reached for anything. There was a loose rock, but she couldn't see anything. Just frothy and cold darkness. She gripped the rock and swung. It hit nothing, but she couldn't stop. I can't! I didn't come back to die!

More than that, she didn't want to! She hadn't then, she didn't want to now! There was no other thought with her determined kicks... but her air and strength were dwindling! Air suddenly came, but she could only register the growing pain in her leg. Was she going to lose it? What good was the air if she only succumbed to blood loss?

"Ellie!" Alan's arms were around her, pulling. "Help me! Kick!"

She coughed and gagged, looking back at the monster pulling her flesh. With a desperate, angry cry, she crushed her heel into its eye. The low-bellied dinosaur roared back, sloshing water, now mixing with blood into a clay red. Then Alan was yanking her back to the shore; did he see the two others? "The ot-thers... A-Alan, the-"

"Maisie, now!" Alan yelled as he lifted her. Ellie didn't understand, but she felt the dirt beneath her. Her head rolled as Maisie struck the water. An instantaneous flash and writhing screeches made Ellie think of a taser or cattle prod. There had been some, in the control room... no, no, in the pod. But then, when had she grabbed one?

I only brought a flashlight. My walkie... where's my walkie? Ellie's memory was confusing the past with now. She stared up at the damp ceiling as the smell of burnt scales filled the air. There was pain, confusion, frustration. She only wanted to lay here and cry it all out. Her leg felt funny; eerily cold.

"Can you stand?" Alan was over her, wet, but less disoriented. It jolted Ellie back to their plan; the entrance, where Ian would be waiting. Ellie nodded to him. "I- I think so."

Could she, with her leg? Ellie leaned on Alan, feeling the pain of her weight. They'd be slow, moving forward. But she could... I can make it!

"The gate!" Maisie cried, rushing at the bars ahead of them. Lights shone from the other side, pushing Ellie to move her, against her weak limp. I can make it!
